The Ben Shapiro Show - The Debate Night Of The Living Dead! | Ep. 932

00:00:00.000 Joe Biden is alive.

00:00:02.000 Barely.

00:00:02.000 CNN reveals its agenda and Bernie Sanders scraps with Elizabeth Warren.

00:00:06.000 Plus, happy birthday to me.

00:00:07.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.

00:00:07.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.

00:00:09.000 The Ben Shapiro Show is sponsored by ExpressVPN Podcasts.

00:00:17.000 Protect your online privacy today at expressvpn.com slash Ben.

00:00:22.000 Well, it is indeed my birthday, and there's no better way to spend a birthday eve than watching old people scream at each other. 0.99

00:00:27.000 It really makes you feel that impending sense of doom that accompanies every birthday sort of naturally.

00:00:32.000 My birthday, I'm 36 today, by the way, so congratulations to me.

00:00:35.000 I also get to vote twice now, I believe, under the Constitution, which was always the case in Chicago.

00:00:39.000 But under the federal Constitution, since I'm twice the legal voting age, I get to vote twice.

00:00:43.000 I think that's the way This works.

00:00:45.000 I get to play my favorite game of the year on my birthday.

00:00:47.000 It's called how many members of the political left on Twitter will text me or email me happy birthday, but not actually say happy birthday openly on Twitter for fear of acknowledging that I am a human and then being blasted by the backlash and getting canceled.

00:01:00.000 So looking forward to playing that game.

00:01:02.000 But last night to the news, last night was the Rock'em Sock'em Robots debate we were all waiting for.

00:01:08.000 And what it really came down to is that everybody was very mean to Bernie.

00:01:12.000 And you had to feel a little bit bad for the guy.

00:01:15.000 After all, after years of being a committed communist, somebody who says that we should all live together, the heart of man is inherently good.

00:01:21.000 He learned last night that for every Trotsky, there is a Stalin.

00:01:25.000 He learned last night that all of your former allies, all of your friends will stab you in the back and put an ice pick through your political eye as soon as they see the opportunity to consolidate power.

00:01:37.000 He learned that from no less Then our Native American princess, Elizabeth Warren.

00:01:42.000 So after the debate, after the debate, this is pretty fantastic.

00:01:45.000 They had a bit of a scrap during the debate, as you'll see.

00:01:46.000 And after the debate, Elizabeth Warren walks over to Bernie Sanders. 1.00

00:01:50.000 And Bernie puts out his hand to shake her hand.

00:01:52.000 And she refuses to shake his hand.

00:01:54.000 Like, she literally just does not shake his hand.

00:01:56.000 And then they start getting into it.

00:01:58.000 And Tom Steyer is over there.

00:02:00.000 He goes to shake Bernie Sanders' hand.

00:02:02.000 Tom Steyer, now we know that Tom Steyer is gonna be sort of like Orson Welles at the end of Citizen Kane.

00:02:07.000 And on his deathbed, He's going to be holding a snow globe filled with a model of the debate.

00:02:12.000 And we're all going to be wondering what exactly Bernie said to Warren and what Warren said to Bernie.

00:02:17.000 And Steyer is going to die without telling us, hopefully when he hits 120.

00:02:21.000 But man, that is some nasty stuff. 1.00

00:02:23.000 Warren is a nasty human being. 0.99

00:02:24.000 And there is a reason. 0.98

00:02:25.000 Listen, I have nothing but sympathy, honestly, for all the Sanders supporters out there.

00:02:29.000 Who are hashtagging Never Warren after this?

00:02:31.000 I'm with you, man. 1.00

00:02:32.000 She is a jerk. 1.00

00:02:33.000 She's a jerk. 1.00

00:02:34.000 Because if she actually felt like Bernie Sanders was a sexist all the way along, why not just say that after December 2018 when he had the meeting with him? 1.00

00:02:42.000 Instead of trying to hug him and be best friends with him, and then two weeks before the Iowa caucuses, that's when you drop this supposed bombshell that he said a woman can't be president.

00:02:51.000 First of all, the story itself does not hold together.

00:02:53.000 It doesn't make any sense.

00:02:54.000 In all likelihood, the conversation went something like this.

00:02:56.000 Elizabeth Warren said, I really want to run for president because I think that a woman can defeat Donald Trump. 0.98

00:03:01.000 And Bernie said, I don't think it provides any special advantage.

00:03:03.000 And then she was like, well, that means that he says a woman can't be president. 0.66

00:03:06.000 That means a woman can't be president. 1.00

00:03:07.000 And she's going to drop that two weeks before through her surrogates and then deny that she dropped it and then suggest that she doesn't want to talk about it. 0.93

00:03:13.000 And then after the debate is over, she's going to walk up to Bernie Sanders and refuse to shake his hand. 1.00

00:03:18.000 She's a jerk. 1.00

00:03:20.000 She's a she's a bad. 1.00

00:03:21.000 She's a bad person. 1.00

00:03:22.000 She's a very nasty person. 1.00

00:03:23.000 And the fact that all the Bernie bros are beginning to notice that Elizabeth Warren is pretty nasty. 1.00

00:03:27.000 You know, this is this is well merited.

00:03:30.000 Bernie Sanders didn't get great treatment from the DNC last time around.

00:03:32.000 It appears he is not going to get great treatment from the DNC this time around.

00:03:35.000 He's certainly not getting great treatment from the media.

00:03:37.000 The story of last night is that Joe Biden continues to sit over there being a dead person.

00:03:41.000 Joe Biden, it does show the great wondrous.

00:03:44.000 Tolerance and diversity of the United States that anyone can be elected president, even a person who's been dead for the last six years.

00:03:50.000 That's really exciting stuff here in the United States of America.

00:03:53.000 We've had a black president.

00:03:55.000 We've had many white presidents.

00:03:56.000 And now we'll have a dead president, which is actually really, I think, again, a sign of America's commitment to openness.

00:04:03.000 But Joe Biden basically just sat there and babbled to himself for two hours.

00:04:07.000 Meanwhile, Bernie and Elizabeth Warren went after each other and CNN jumped in.

00:04:11.000 CNN went after Bernie harder than any of the other candidates.

00:04:13.000 A lot of the Bernie bros today are very upset with CNN.

00:04:17.000 Welcome to our world, gang.

00:04:19.000 Welcome to the world, the right wing, where CNN has consistently pushed a particular narrative.

00:04:24.000 They are not objective in any way, shape, or form.

00:04:26.000 They never really try to be objective in any way, shape, or form, but they proclaim that they are objective.

00:04:31.000 If you're a Bernie person today, you are fighting mad.

00:04:33.000 And this is going to backlash on Warren.

00:04:35.000 I don't think that this is actually going to pay off for Warren.

00:04:37.000 And the media today, oh, Warren had a good nightlife.

00:04:39.000 I don't think that's right.

00:04:41.000 I think that the backlash to Warren is going to be pretty strong, because she did not appear to be a nice person.

00:04:45.000 She appeared to be a very, very mean person, in fact. 0.99

00:04:48.000 She appeared to be somebody who was attacking Bernie Sanders unfairly, cutting the legs out from under him. 0.66

00:04:52.000 It was basically a cut block in the NFL.

00:04:54.000 Just went right for the knees. 0.53

00:04:55.000 And she did so late, away from the actual play, and then it wasn't flagged.

00:05:00.000 In fact, the flag was thrown on the guy who got cut blocked.

00:05:03.000 It's pretty incredible.

00:05:04.000 So we're going to get to all of the details from this insanely boring debate, except for some of the fisticuffs between Sanders and Warren.

00:05:11.000 We'll get to the fact that these people are utterly unqualified to be president of the United States, not because of their service, but because their views are just nutty. 0.99

00:05:19.000 They're just nutty and confused and ridiculous. 0.99

00:05:22.000 And the Democratic Party is looking for more confused, ridiculous, nutty views, apparently. 1.00

00:05:25.000 We'll get to all that in just one second. 0.98

00:05:26.000 We'll go through this, this.

00:06:40.000 Alrighty.

00:06:43.000 Last night's debate began with some talk about foreign policy.

00:06:48.000 And you can hear CNN going after Bernie from the very beginning, from the very beginning.

00:06:52.000 Now, listen, I think that the questions asked to Bernie Sanders are perfectly fair, except for one.

00:06:57.000 One question was certainly unfair.

00:06:58.000 But most of the questions were pretty fair.

00:07:01.000 I just think that it's weird that nobody had asked Bernie Sanders a tough question for 45, 50 years of his career.

00:07:07.000 And then last night, CNN chooses to wake up just in time to try and push Warren before the Iowa caucuses.

00:07:12.000 If you watch Huffington Post, if you watch CNN, if you watch MSNBC, it is perfectly obvious that the person they dread the most in the Democratic Party is Bernie Sanders.

00:07:21.000 They do not want Bernie Sanders to be the nominee.

00:07:23.000 Now, some of them don't like Joe Biden very much, but there is a general consensus that Elizabeth Warren is wonderful.

00:07:27.000 And this has not faded, even though Elizabeth Warren has faded.

00:07:30.000 Despite the fact that Warren has dropped in the pack, the media continue to try to prop her up because the media still, for the media, she makes them feel good about themselves.

00:07:39.000 You have to understand, members of the media are upper crust coastal elites who like to believe that they are intellectuals and Elizabeth Warren is like straight out, it's also the reason a lot of them like Pete Buttigieg.

00:07:49.000 It's that sort of background that makes them feel special.

00:07:51.000 It makes them feel good about themselves.

00:07:52.000 So, last night, CNN went hard after Warren.

00:07:55.000 Wolf Blitzer started off, he asked him a fair question about his foreign policy, but he doesn't ask anybody else this foreign policy question in this way.

00:08:01.000 Here's Wolf Blitzer going after Bernie Sanders.

00:08:04.000 Senator Sanders, in the wake of the Iran crisis, Iran's Ayatollah Khamenei has again called for all U.S.

00:08:12.000 troops to be pulled out of the Middle East, something you've called for as well.

00:08:16.000 Yet when American troops last left Iraq, ISIS emerged and spread terror across the Middle East and indeed around the world.

00:08:24.000 How would you prevent that from happening again?

00:08:26.000 Okay, let me tell you.

00:08:27.000 But before I tell you that, let me tell you something else.

00:08:32.000 Okay, and then he didn't really tell anybody anything else, but the bottom line is that that question is brutal!

00:08:36.000 Right?

00:08:37.000 How would you prevent?

00:08:38.000 Don't you basically have ISIS's agenda? 0.97

00:08:41.000 Don't you have Iran's agenda?

00:08:41.000 Right?

00:08:42.000 Now again, I think that's a fair question.

00:08:43.000 I just think it's weird that CNN decides to pull that club out of its pocket in the last debate before Iowa.

00:08:49.000 And now when it comes to the actual foreign policy debate in the Democratic Party, it's basically between people who are 90% wrong and people who are 100% wrong.

00:08:55.000 Joe Biden is in the 90% wrong category.

00:08:57.000 He still has some tenuous grasp of reality through the foggy haze of his increasing dementia.

00:09:02.000 Joe Biden still seems to have some sort of grasp of the fact that the United States is supposed to play a role in the world.

00:09:09.000 And you know, look, the fact is that he did sit in that VP seat for years.

00:09:13.000 And once you're in the White House, we've had three straight presidents.

00:09:16.000 Four, really, if you include Clinton, I think this is right.

00:09:18.000 Four straight presidents who have basically said the United States should disengage from the world, and then when they are sitting in the big seat, they've not disengaged from the world in any real way.

00:09:25.000 Joe Biden has spent some time in the White House.

00:09:27.000 He understands you can't disengage from the world, but the problem for Joe Biden is that Joe Biden has to apologize for his own record on his foreign policy, because the Democratic Party is filled with people who believe in the Bernie Sanders isolationist, America is bad, America is terrible, America victimizes people.

00:09:43.000 On the world stage, so Biden said, for example, he apologized in 2002 when Congress was debating whether or not we got into a war in Iraq, invade Iraq.

00:09:51.000 I got up on the floor.

00:09:52.000 I said it would be a disaster.

00:09:53.000 It would lead to unprecedented levels of chaos in the region.

00:09:57.000 And then he said that, sorry, he said that.

00:10:00.000 That's actually a quote from Sanders.

00:10:01.000 Biden actually suggested that he had apologized for his role in the Iraq war, that he should not have voted in favor of the Iraq war.

00:10:08.000 And then Sanders, because he represents again that isolationist wing of the Democratic Party, Sanders then clocks him across the head.

00:10:15.000 In 2002, when the Congress was debating whether or not we go into a war in Iraq, invade Iraq, I got up on the floor of the House and I said that would be a disaster.

00:10:31.000 It would lead to unprecedented levels of chaos in the region.

00:10:36.000 And I not only voted against the war, I helped lead the effort against that war.

00:10:41.000 It is pretty incredible that for the Democratic Party, your chief foreign policy win is not voting in favor of a war that had broad bipartisan support.

00:10:50.000 Because it is always easy to say in the aftermath of a war that it was really bad.

00:10:55.000 And when's the last time somebody was like, yeah, I backed a war and it was great? 0.99

00:10:58.000 That hasn't happened really since World War II.

00:11:01.000 So the easy position in foreign policy is always the no position.

00:11:05.000 That's always the easy position.

00:11:06.000 The yes position is always the hard position when it comes to war.

00:11:08.000 Nobody wants to make war.

00:11:09.000 Nobody.

00:11:11.000 There's not a bunch of people in the United States who are like, yeah, war all the time.

00:11:14.000 And I'm frankly getting very sick of the straw man that is set up by folks on the isolationist right, as well as on the left, that if people believe the United States should take an active role in the world, that this is because they are pro-war.

00:11:24.000 It's just absolute nonsense from beginning to end.

00:11:27.000 This contrasts pretty strongly with Joe Biden's clip four, talking about what actually has to happen in terms of foreign policy, which is, yes, we are not going to stop being engaged in the Middle East.

00:11:36.000 I would leave troops in the Middle East in terms of patrolling the Gulf, where we are now, small numbers of troops.

00:11:44.000 And I think it's a mistake to pull out the small number of troops that are there now to deal with ISIS.

00:11:51.000 So there is Joe Biden being realistic about war, but you're not allowed to be realistic about war.

00:11:56.000 Instead, you're supposed to be unrealistic.

00:11:58.000 And this is what Elizabeth Warren, the most calculated candidate in the field, knows.

00:12:01.000 She says, no, no, no, we're going to withdraw forthwith incredibly fast because, again, this is the way that you win a Democratic primary.

00:12:09.000 I think we need to get our combat troops out.

00:12:11.000 You know, we have to stop this mindset that we can do everything with combat troops.

00:12:16.000 Our military is the finest military on earth, and they will take any sacrifice we ask them to take.

00:12:23.000 But we should stop asking our military to solve problems that cannot be solved militarily.

00:12:31.000 So the Sanders-Warren wing on foreign policy is utterly out of touch with reality.

00:12:34.000 Joe Biden is sort of out of touch with reality.

00:12:36.000 So Joe Biden wants to have it both ways.

00:12:38.000 On the one hand, He wants to suggest that he is hawkish enough to keep America safe.

00:12:43.000 On the other hand, he wants to suggest that he is actually not all that hawkish at all.

00:12:48.000 And so he ends up rewriting his own record in bizarre ways.

00:12:51.000 So Joe Biden, he was actually called on this by CNN, as he should have been.

00:12:53.000 He talked about how when he first ran for Congress, he was very focused on the informed consent of the American people to go to war.

00:13:01.000 Here's Joe Biden saying a thing that is about to come back to bite him in the debate.

00:13:04.000 I ran the first time as a 29-year-old kid against the war in Vietnam, and the ground's set.

00:13:09.000 Only way to take a nation to war is with the informed consent of the American people.

00:13:14.000 The informed consent of the American people.

00:13:17.000 Yeah, Libya.

00:13:18.000 Libya, drone war, like a few things that your administration did.

00:13:22.000 Also, I do love the fact that the Democrats who have declared they want to be friendly, diplomacy, diplomacy friendly, as soon as Donald Trump basically did what Barack Obama pledged to do and met with Kim Jong-un, now Joe Biden's like, I would never meet Kim Jong-un without preconditions.

00:13:36.000 This is pretty funny.

00:13:37.000 No, not now.

00:13:38.000 I wouldn't meet with him about any preconditions.

00:13:40.000 Look, what we gave him everything he's looking for.

00:13:42.000 Legitimacy.

00:13:43.000 The president showed up, met with him, gave him legitimacy, weakened the sanctions we have against him.

00:13:51.000 The guy he ran with said on stage that he would meet with Kim Jong-un, with Iran, without any preconditions whatsoever.

00:13:58.000 That's a thing he actually said.

00:13:58.000 Right?

00:13:59.000 Now Joe Biden is taking the reverse position.

00:14:00.000 Why?

00:14:01.000 Because Donald Trump actually ended up taking the Obama position.

00:14:03.000 In a second, we will get to the Democrats on trade, but then we get to the actual, the actual center of the Democratic debate.

00:14:10.000 Sex.

00:14:12.000 Ooh, Joe Biden gets to stand to the side, while Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders go at it like the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks circa 1918.

00:14:19.000 It's really exciting stuff.

00:14:21.000 We'll get to that in just one second.

00:14:22.000 First, let's talk about your safety and security.

00:14:24.000 So, let me just say, my wife and I are paranoid about safety.

00:14:27.000 This has been exacerbated by the fact that we receive an enormous number of death threats.

00:14:31.000 Unfortunately, that's just the life.

00:14:33.000 But the good news is, we feel protected.

00:14:35.000 Because we use Ring.

00:14:35.000 Why?

00:14:36.000 Ring's mission is to make neighborhoods safer.

00:14:38.000 Their smart video doorbells and cameras protect millions of people everywhere.

00:14:41.000 This is actually particularly important in Los Angeles.

00:14:43.000 There's been a spate of break-ins in the general area where I live.

00:14:46.000 Pretty important to know that your home is safe.

00:14:48.000 Also, there are a lot of folks who will ring the doorbell, make sure that you're not home, and then break in.

00:14:52.000 Well, if you got Ring, they ring the doorbell, you can pick it up from your phone.

00:14:54.000 They have no idea whether you're home or not.

00:14:56.000 Ring helps you stay connected to your home anywhere in the world.

00:14:58.000 So, if there's a package delivery or a surprise visitor, you get an alert, you're able to see, hear, and speak to them all from your phone.

00:15:04.000 Listen, I have real security risks.

00:15:07.000 That's why I use Ring.

00:15:30.000 Again, that is ring.com slash Ben.

00:15:32.000 Okay, then Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders go at it on trade.

00:15:35.000 So Bernie Sanders' view of trade is Even more isolationist than Trump.

00:15:39.000 He's actually pro-tariff.

00:15:41.000 He believes in an almost bizarre socialistic autarky. 0.99

00:15:44.000 He believes that we should produce all product in the United States and basically have zero trade with foreign countries, which is idiocy of the highest order. 0.98

00:15:52.000 But again, in the Democratic primary, there is an advantage to purity. 0.94

00:15:54.000 This is one thing that you learn about the primaries. 1.00

00:15:56.000 There is an advantage to being pure of heart, even if stupid of head. 1.00

00:16:00.000 That is Bernie Sanders in a nutshell. 1.00

00:16:03.000 Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden go at it.

00:16:05.000 Biden says, listen, there's no trade agreement that Sanders would vote for because he's been useless for 30 years.

00:16:10.000 I don't know that there's any trade agreement that the senator would ever think made any sense.

00:16:14.000 But the problem is that 95% of the customers are out there.

00:16:18.000 So we better figure out how we begin to write the rules of the road, not China. 0.96

00:16:23.000 OK, and then Bernie puts up his finger because he wants to talk.

00:16:26.000 And he says, listen, I just don't like trade.

00:16:28.000 Trade is bad because trade does not and it does not adhere to my sense of what is fair and what is right.

00:16:35.000 Namely, that everybody should have one million dollars.

00:16:39.000 Joe and I have a fundamental disagreement here.

00:16:40.000 In case you haven't noticed.

00:16:45.000 And that is NAFTA, PNTR with China, other trade agreements were written for one reason alone.

00:16:53.000 And that is to increase the profits of large multinational corporations.

00:16:58.000 And the end result of those two, just PNTR with China, Joe, and NAFTA cost us some four million jobs as part of the race to the bottom.

00:17:09.000 Okay, well, it didn't actually cost America four million jobs.

00:17:12.000 It did shift manufacturing overseas because it turns out you can manufacture things more cheaply overseas.

00:17:18.000 It was mostly technology, actually, that did all of that.

00:17:20.000 Most of the manufacturing jobs lost in the United States were not lost to China or Mexico.

00:17:24.000 They were lost to technological advancement.

00:17:26.000 But job growth in the United States has never ceased.

00:17:29.000 I mean, there are more people employed today than were at the beginning of NAFTA.

00:17:31.000 Manufacturing growth actually maintained its rates in the first few years of NAFTA.

00:17:35.000 It was only that it started to drop off in the aftermath specifically of technological advances in the late 90s.

00:17:40.000 But again, there are significant divides between Joe Biden, who again has that tenuous grasp of reality, and Bernie Sanders, who has no grasp of reality and still lives in cloud cuckoo land.

00:17:49.000 Where Stalin's five-year plans were actually excellent. 0.54

00:17:52.000 Okay, but now we get to the heart of the matter.

00:17:54.000 This is all kind of normal Democrat debate stuff.

00:17:56.000 Joe Biden versus Bernie Sanders.

00:17:58.000 Sanders being radical, but pure of heart.

00:17:59.000 And Joe Biden being a little less pure of heart, but also a little bit less radical.

00:18:04.000 Then we get to the spicy stuff. 0.95

00:18:06.000 And this is CNN deciding, on the basis of nothing, that Bernie Sanders is a liar. 0.99

00:18:12.000 Like, just deciding that Bernie Sanders is a liar. 0.96

00:18:14.000 And Elizabeth Warren chiming in. 0.98

00:18:17.000 B-E-L-I-V-E-A-BLE. 1.00

00:18:19.000 Truly, this is astonishing stuff.

00:18:21.000 So, Abby Phillip is the name of this reporteress at CNN, and she jumps on Sanders. 1.00

00:18:28.000 And we're gonna play the whole exchange, we'll pause it all the way through, and you will see how, and you will see, I mean, this is just, it's an amazing exchange.

00:18:36.000 Here we go.

00:18:36.000 Let's not turn to an issue that's come up in the last 48 hours, Senator Sanders.

00:18:40.000 CNN reported yesterday that, and Senator Sanders, Senator Warren confirmed in a statement, that in 2018 you told her that you did not believe that a woman could win the election.

00:18:52.000 Why did you say that?

00:18:54.000 Well, as a matter of fact, I didn't say it.

00:18:57.000 And I don't want to waste a whole lot of time on this, because this is what Donald Trump and maybe some of the media want.

00:19:03.000 Anybody knows me, knows that it's incomprehensible that I would think that a woman could not be president of the United States.

00:19:10.000 Go to YouTube today.

00:19:12.000 There's a video of me 30 years ago talking about how a woman could become president of the United States.

00:19:19.000 In 2015, I deferred, in fact, to Senator Warren.

00:19:24.000 There was a movement to draft Senator Warren to run for president.

00:19:27.000 And you know what?

00:19:28.000 I stayed back.

00:19:30.000 Senator Warren decided not to run, and I did run afterwards.

00:19:34.000 Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by three million votes.

00:19:40.000 How could anybody in a million years not believe that a woman could become President of the United States?

00:19:46.000 And let me be very clear.

00:19:48.000 If any of the women on this stage or any of the men on this stage win the nomination, I hope that's not the case.

00:19:54.000 I hope it's me.

00:19:56.000 But if they do, I will do everything in my power to make sure that they are elected in order to defeat the most dangerous president in the history of our country.

00:20:06.000 So Senator Sanders, Senator Sanders, I do want to be clear here.

00:20:10.000 You're saying that you never told Senator Warren that a woman could not win the election.

00:20:15.000 That is correct.

00:20:17.000 Senator Warren, what did you think when Senator Sanders told you a woman could not win the election? 0.58

00:20:24.000 I disagreed.

00:20:26.000 Bernie is my friend, and I am not here to try to fight with Bernie.

00:20:31.000 But look, this question about whether or not a woman can be president has been raised, and it's time for us to attack it head on.

00:20:40.000 And I think the best way to talk about who can win is by looking at people's winning record.

00:20:46.000 So, can a woman beat Donald Trump? 1.00

00:20:49.000 Look at the men on this stage.

00:20:50.000 Collectively, they have lost 10 elections.

00:20:54.000 The only people on this stage who have won every single election that they've been in are the women. 1.00

00:21:00.000 And the only person on this stage who has beaten an incumbent Republican any time in the past 30 years is me. 0.94

00:21:10.000 Okay, that is an unbelievably garbage exchange by CNN. 0.97

00:21:14.000 Unbelievable! 0.97

00:21:16.000 And I'm gonna get to full analysis of just how bad that exchange is.

00:21:18.000 I mean, truly awful.

00:21:19.000 Exposed to CNN in its full glory.

00:21:22.000 Exposed to Elizabeth Warren for the cynical politico that she is. 0.93

00:21:26.000 Honestly, I feel bad for Bernie.

00:21:27.000 Like, you have made me feel bad for Bernie Sanders.

00:21:30.000 How?

00:21:30.000 I spent all of yesterday's show crapping in Bernie Sanders' cornflakes, okay?

00:21:34.000 Because Bernie Sanders is a communist!

00:21:37.000 And now I feel bad for him because of you people.

00:21:39.000 Because of you, CNN!

00:21:40.000 Because of you, Elizabeth Warren, who's just awful!

00:21:42.000 We're gonna get to full analysis of this unreal exchange in just one second.

00:21:47.000 Joe Biden, by the way, is just sitting off there going, Well, I don't know where I am, but this is pretty fantastic.

00:21:51.000 We'll get to that in just one second.

00:21:53.000 First, let us talk about life insurance.

00:21:55.000 So, it is my birthday.

00:21:56.000 That means I'm thinking about death.

00:21:58.000 I mean, that's what you do on your birthday.

00:21:59.000 As you get older, you think, that's one more year off the calendar, so one year closer to the grave.

00:22:05.000 Maybe, if you're thinking about that because I just mentioned it, you should go get life insurance.

00:22:08.000 I mean, do a practical thing.

00:22:09.000 Turn your sadness into joy by getting some life insurance and ensuring that at least your family is taken care of in case, God forbid, something should happen to you.

00:22:16.000 The people you go to, you know what I'm going to say.

00:22:47.000 Just insure against it.

00:22:59.000 Go check it out right now.

00:23:00.000 PolicyGenius.com. 0.92

00:23:03.000 The ridiculousness of this exchange is just astonishing.

00:23:07.000 So Philip leads off by saying CNN reported yesterday.

00:23:10.000 Well, if CNN reported it, as we all know, that must mean that the underlying facts are true.

00:23:15.000 It can't just be that somebody from the Warren campaign decided to leave a flaming bag of dog poop on Bernie Sanders's Bernie Sanders' doorstep and use CNN as the delivery service.

00:23:27.000 It can't just be that.

00:23:28.000 No, it's that CNN reported it.

00:23:29.000 So Sanders' response is a fine response.

00:23:32.000 You can see that Sanders is just confused that any of this is... I mean, he's confused most of the time, but he's particularly confused that any of this is happening.

00:23:39.000 And...

00:23:40.000 Honestly, I understand the charm of Bernie Sanders. 1.00

00:23:42.000 He's like a crazy old coot. 0.99

00:23:44.000 He's a crazy old coot who seems like he's honest. 1.00

00:23:47.000 He's honestly wrong. 1.00

00:23:48.000 He's honestly dumb, but he's honest. 0.96

00:23:51.000 And then you get CNN responding, confirming that Bernie Sanders says that this never took place. 0.97

00:23:59.000 CNN is broadcasting this, so they've got this on split screen with Elizabeth Warren looking very disapproving, looking very upset.

00:24:07.000 How could anyone say this?

00:24:08.000 Believe all women! 1.00

00:24:09.000 Believe all women! 1.00

00:24:10.000 hashtag me too.

00:24:12.000 And then Abby Phillip follows up Bernie Sanders' response by simply ignoring that he's even denied it.

00:24:18.000 By simply ignoring it, right?

00:24:20.000 Her follow-up question is, he says, so her question, just to read the transcript is, so Senator Warren, I do want to be clear here.

00:24:27.000 Senator Sanders, I want to be clear.

00:24:28.000 You're saying you never told Senator Warren that a woman could not win the election.

00:24:32.000 Sanders.

00:24:33.000 That is correct.

00:24:34.000 Philip, the reporter.

00:24:35.000 Senator Warren, what did you think when Senator Sanders told you a woman could not win the election? 0.58

00:24:39.000 Okay, this is, okay, there's a textbook sort of story that is very often told about bad reporting.

00:24:48.000 Bad reporting goes something like this.

00:24:49.000 You walk up to a senator and you say to the senator, so, Senator, when did you stop beating your wife?

00:24:54.000 That's a textbook case of a bad question.

00:24:56.000 The reason it's a bad question is because it is assuming a prior that is not in evidence.

00:25:00.000 And it's assuming that the senator was beating his wife. 0.51

00:25:03.000 So, when did you stop beating your wife is a great way of saying you used to beat your wife. 0.88

00:25:07.000 Right, well, this is, so, Senator Warren, when did Senator Sanders tell you?

00:25:10.000 What did you think when Senator Sanders told you that a woman could not win the election? 1.00

00:25:14.000 He is explicitly denied on this stage he ever says it, and the CNN reporter immediately turns and says to Warren, so he's a liar, what do you think of him? 0.98

00:25:21.000 Isn't he a sexist liar? 0.95

00:25:23.000 Which is Warren's entire case. 0.94

00:25:25.000 Bernie Sanders should completely rethink his perspective on campaign finance reform.

00:25:29.000 His perspective is that corporations spending money on politics is extremely dangerous.

00:25:33.000 What does he have to say about CNN dropping a billion-dollar in-kind donation directly on Elizabeth Warren in the middle of a debate?

00:25:40.000 Now he knows what Mitt Romney felt like in 2012 when Candy Crowley decided that she was just going to join the Obama campaign in the middle of a presidential debate. 0.76

00:25:47.000 Unbelievable!

00:25:48.000 And then Warren, who's just a terrible... She's terrible.

00:25:51.000 She's just terrible in every way. 0.59

00:25:53.000 She says, I disagreed.

00:25:54.000 Bernie is my friend.

00:25:54.000 I'm not here to try to fight with Bernie.

00:25:56.000 All I'm going to do is just tell this story, this tale out of school, two weeks before the Iowa caucuses, when I've lost all momentum in order to try and sink Bernie Sanders.

00:26:05.000 Hey, listen, you're making me stick up... I can't say this enough.

00:26:08.000 They are making me stick up for Bernie Sanders, just trying to be an honest human being.

00:26:11.000 Okay, that's it.

00:26:13.000 Bernie is my friend.

00:26:14.000 I'm not here to try to fight with Bernie. 0.97

00:26:15.000 All I'm going to say is that he's a vicious sexist who says that a woman can't be president of the United States. 0.98

00:26:19.000 That's her take. 0.98

00:26:20.000 What a scurrilous, gross attack by Elizabeth Warren. 1.00

00:26:23.000 But that's what she is. 0.92

00:26:24.000 Scurrilous. 1.00

00:26:25.000 Disgusting in her politics. 1.00

00:26:27.000 Because she is dishonest. 1.00

00:26:28.000 Truly dishonest.

00:26:30.000 You want to assume the best intentions of people with whom you disagree.

00:26:34.000 I assume that Bernie Sanders genuinely feels what he feels.

00:26:36.000 I am not going to grant Elizabeth Warren that same credibility.

00:26:39.000 I do not think she feels what she feels.

00:26:41.000 I do not think that she stands by any of her positions.

00:26:43.000 I do not think that she is honest in any real way.

00:26:45.000 I think that she is willing to do anything in order to access power.

00:26:49.000 I think Bernie, at least to his credit, he says what he says.

00:26:53.000 He's the Popeye.

00:26:54.000 He's the Popeye the Sailor Man of politics.

00:26:56.000 He is what he is.

00:26:58.000 He's strong to the finish when he eats his spinach.

00:27:01.000 But Elizabeth Warren, that lady blows with the wind. 1.00

00:27:04.000 And not only that, she is a knife fighter, my goodness. 1.00

00:27:07.000 I mean, just stabs him directly between the shoulder blades. 0.97

00:27:09.000 And CNN, acquiescing in all of this? 0.90

00:27:12.000 Not just acquiescing, but participating and accessory to the political murder of Bernie Sanders?

00:27:18.000 That's some top-notch reportering.

00:27:20.000 Some real solid journalism in there, CNN.

00:27:24.000 Okay, and then this led to this very confused exchange.

00:27:27.000 By the way, Bernie Sanders is not wrong in this exchange.

00:27:29.000 He's not.

00:27:30.000 It's just that Elizabeth Warren was careful in how she tailored this.

00:27:33.000 I love when Elizabeth Warren said, I'm the only person on this stage who's beaten an incumbent Republican any time in the past 30 years.

00:27:39.000 OK, let's get something straight.

00:27:40.000 You beat Scott Brown in Massachusetts.

00:27:43.000 Scott Brown is the greatest electoral fluke in modern political history.

00:27:47.000 He won because Ted Kennedy plots.

00:27:49.000 Ted Kennedy plots.

00:27:50.000 The seat had to be filled.

00:27:51.000 It was the middle of the Obamacare debate and seven people voted in Massachusetts.

00:27:55.000 And Scott Brown was senator of Massachusetts for seven point two minutes.

00:27:59.000 But Elizabeth Warren's like, I beat an incumbent in Massachusetts, which has had one Republican senator in the last 900 years.

00:28:05.000 But she's a real bipartisan fighter, is Elizabeth Warren. 0.99

00:28:08.000 So Bernie tries to come back from this, he comes back in the dumbest possible way, because again, Bernie ain't that bright. 0.81

00:28:13.000 Bernie knows what he is, and he is what he is. 0.99

00:28:17.000 But what he is, is a rather dim bulb.

00:28:20.000 So here is Senator Warren going at it with Bernie Sanders over who has defeated an incumbent Republican.

00:28:26.000 The two most radical members of the Democratic Party on that stage trying to proclaim that they have appealed to Republicans because one beat a Republican in Vermont in 1990 and the other beat a Democrat in Massachusetts in 2010. 0.99

00:28:37.000 I mean, this is all just ridiculous crap. 0.98

00:28:41.000 Senator Sanders, you can respond. 0.99

00:28:42.000 Well, just to set the record straight, I defeated an incumbent Republican running for Congress.

00:28:49.000 When?

00:28:50.000 1990.

00:28:51.000 That's how I won, beat a Republican congressman.

00:28:58.000 Number two, of course, I don't think there's any debate up here.

00:29:02.000 Wasn't it 30 years ago?

00:29:04.000 I beat an incumbent Republican congressman.

00:29:08.000 And I said, I was the only one who's beaten an incumbent Republican in 30 years.

00:29:13.000 Well, 30 years ago is 1990, as a matter of fact.

00:29:17.000 But I don't know that that's the major issue of the day.

00:29:21.000 I think what the major issue of the day is, does anybody in their right mind think that a woman cannot be elected president?

00:29:27.000 Senator Warren, I want to give you the final word.

00:29:29.000 Of course you do.

00:29:30.000 So I do think it's the right question, how do we beat Trump?

00:29:32.000 And here's the thing.

00:29:33.000 Since Donald Trump was elected, women candidates have outperformed men candidates in competitive races.

00:29:41.000 And in 2018, we took back the House, we took back state houses because of women candidates and women voters. 1.00

00:29:51.000 Look, don't deny that the question is there.

00:29:55.000 Back in the 1960s, people asked, could a Catholic win?

00:29:59.000 Back in 2008, people asked if an African American could win.

00:30:04.000 In both times, the Democratic Party stepped up and said yes.

00:30:09.000 Got behind their candidate and we changed America.

00:30:12.000 That's who we are. 0.92

00:30:14.000 She's just awful. 0.99

00:30:15.000 She's just the worst. 0.99

00:30:17.000 I love that.

00:30:18.000 I'm a woman.

00:30:19.000 And because she's basically Cory Booker, but a woman.

00:30:21.000 Cory Booker just spent the last, you know, two months going around going, guys, I'm black.

00:30:26.000 Look at me, I'm black.

00:30:28.000 Kamala Harris is not in the race anymore.

00:30:30.000 I'm the only black guy.

00:30:30.000 And everybody's like, so?

00:30:32.000 Elizabeth Warren is now.

00:30:33.000 I'm a woman, don't you see?

00:30:34.000 I used to say I was a Native American and that wasn't true, but I'm actually a woman.

00:30:37.000 I'm actually, I can't define woman because I think that men can be women, but I'm actually Don't you know? 0.72

00:30:43.000 And me being elected, it would be just like the first black president, if a woman was elected pre- She's so tiresome. 1.00

00:30:50.000 She's so unbelievably tiresome, and so is CNN. 0.98

00:30:53.000 Senator Warren, I want to give you the last word. 0.99

00:30:55.000 By the way, that silly exchange about who defeated an incumbent Republican 30 years ago versus 10 years ago, it's so dumb, and it's so trite, and it's so tired. 0.94

00:31:04.000 Elizabeth Warren is not going to work with a single Republican. 1.00

00:31:06.000 She never has.

00:31:07.000 Bernie Sanders is not going to work with a single Republican.

00:31:09.000 She never has, and neither of them are going to be president, so it's irrelevant anyway.

00:31:11.000 In just a second, we'll see more of CNN piling on Bernie.

00:31:15.000 I mean, really, if you're a Bernie fan, at this point you gotta be thinking, when's the dude gonna run third party?

00:31:19.000 Because the number of people who are just out to get Bernie is extraordinary.

00:31:23.000 Like, there are people like me.

00:31:23.000 I'll come at Bernie from the front, right?

00:31:25.000 I'm going right at Bernie's ideology.

00:31:26.000 I think that Bernie is wrong on everything.

00:31:28.000 I think Bernie is entirely off the grid when it comes to intelligence.

00:31:32.000 Political decency?

00:31:34.000 Like, I'll come right at him.

00:31:34.000 Morality?

00:31:36.000 But, inside the Democratic Party, they are willing to live off the back of Bernie Sanders.

00:31:40.000 They're willing to hijack his entire agenda, and then ingest it.

00:31:44.000 Ingest it like a horror movie monster.

00:31:46.000 Like from Stranger Things. 0.95

00:31:47.000 Just ingest the political flesh of Bernie Sanders, and use it to animate their monster body. 0.92

00:31:53.000 And then just leave his desiccated corpse behind. 0.97

00:31:56.000 I mean, that is what the Democratic Party does. 0.80

00:31:57.000 So if you're a Bernie fan today, you gotta be thinking to yourself, this is the guy who led your entire movement, he was an independent for most of his career, he comes inside your party, you try to take his ideas, you try to create this thing, this Elizabeth Warren candidacy, you try to create that, and then you try to use that in order to promote Bernie Sanders' ideas while sucking him dry.

00:32:16.000 And then you want us to vote for you guys?

00:32:18.000 Like, if you're a Bernie fan, this is a great way that the Democratic Party and CNN have really alienated you.

00:32:24.000 Pretty impressive.

00:33:06.000 Come join the fun.

00:33:07.000 We are the largest, fastest growing conservative podcast and radio show in the nation.

00:33:10.000 Abby Phillip just kept going and going and going after Bernie Sanders, who's really an impressive showing by Abby Phillip, who's apparently running for the Democratic nomination.

00:33:24.000 She's not just a reporter for CNN.

00:33:26.000 So last night on health care, she went after Bernie Sanders on the cost of his health care plan.

00:33:30.000 Now, listen, we've been over this ground one million times.

00:33:33.000 Bernie Sanders' healthcare plan is absurd.

00:33:35.000 He would double the American budget.

00:33:36.000 Like, forever.

00:33:38.000 Minimum.

00:33:39.000 Hey, and your healthcare would then be rationed by the government, because that is the only way that a fully nationalized, single-payer, UK-style healthcare system works.

00:33:45.000 There are other ways to have mandates like they do in Switzerland that works with private industry in which you actually have some competition for the taxpayer dollar because the money isn't first funneled through the government.

00:33:55.000 There's places like Singapore that have mandates on low-level insurance and then you can purchase more above that.

00:34:01.000 There are ways to do this that are not single-payer. 0.70

00:34:03.000 Bernie Sanders' single-payer Medicare for All plan is ridiculous on its face.

00:34:08.000 It is wildly unpopular.

00:34:09.000 It gets rid of all your insurance plans.

00:34:10.000 It does get rid of your ability to see the doctor.

00:34:12.000 That you want.

00:34:13.000 So all of these questions are fairly directed at Bernie Sanders.

00:34:15.000 My only question is this.

00:34:16.000 Elizabeth Warren cribbed off Bernie Sanders' notes. 1.00

00:34:20.000 As Bernie Sanders keeps saying, I wrote the damn bill. 1.00

00:34:23.000 Nobody voted for it, but I wrote the damn bill. 1.00

00:34:23.000 I did, I wrote it. 1.00

00:34:26.000 It's a bill and damn it, I wrote it. 0.98

00:34:27.000 So Bernie at least is accurate. 0.99

00:34:29.000 Elizabeth Warren sat behind Bernie in class and cribbed off his notes.

00:34:32.000 And then she tried to live off those notes.

00:34:35.000 And then when it didn't work for her, she's like, I was never for Medicare for All.

00:34:39.000 No, I think that we have to do something different. 0.99

00:34:41.000 And isn't it a better question than asking Bernie for the one millionth time why his plan is dumb? 0.98

00:34:45.000 Wouldn't it be better to ask Elizabeth Warren if his plan is dumb as you now kind of see that it is? 0.98

00:34:49.000 Why did you embrace it in the first place? 0.96

00:34:50.000 Why have you shifted positions more times than the characters in the Kama Sutra?

00:34:54.000 Like you shift your position on Medicare for all routinely and fluidly and ridiculously.

00:34:59.000 But instead, Abby Phillip goes after Bernie Sanders, which again, it's a fair question.

00:35:03.000 It is just unfair that Bernie Sanders is singled out.

00:35:05.000 Here's Abby Phillip.

00:35:06.000 Senator Sanders, you've consistently refused to say exactly how much your Medicare for All plan is going to cost.

00:35:14.000 Don't voters deserve to see the price tag before you send them a bill that could cost tens of trillions of dollars?

00:35:20.000 Well, what I will tell you is Medicare for All, which will guarantee comprehensive health care to every man, woman, and child, will cost substantially less than the status quo.

00:35:32.000 Okay, so that's always his answer, and this weird notion that it costs less than the status quo to tax people at exorbitant rates.

00:35:39.000 Costs less to whom?

00:35:41.000 To whom?

00:35:42.000 I'm always amused when people equate private spending to public spending.

00:35:45.000 Not the same thing.

00:35:47.000 Not the same thing at all.

00:35:48.000 In America, we spend more than any other country does on luxury watches.

00:35:52.000 What if we just nationalized it and everybody got a Casio?

00:35:54.000 Like, that's not how markets work.

00:35:57.000 It's not how markets work.

00:35:58.000 Instead, it was left to the other Democrats to point out that both Elizabeth Warren's plan and Bernie Sanders' plan are completely nonsensical.

00:36:05.000 Here is Joe Biden.

00:36:07.000 Again, as you'll notice, Joe Biden was a spectator for most of the night, right?

00:36:09.000 Joe Biden, who is the frontrunner and who is probably going to win the nomination, was just able to stand there, or at least they wheeled him up there in a dolly and he sort of...

00:36:16.000 Sat there, lifelike, somewhat animate, and he said, listen, your silly idea that you're going to be able to pay for this thing with like a small income tax increase is just nonsense.

00:36:27.000 I think we need to be candid with voters.

00:36:29.000 I think we have to tell them what we're going to do and what it's going to cost.

00:36:31.000 And a 4% tax on income over $24,000 doesn't even come close to paying for between 30 and some estimates as high as $40 trillion over 10 years.

00:36:42.000 That's doubling the entire federal budget per year.

00:36:46.000 Of course that is 100% true.

00:36:48.000 Of course that is true.

00:36:49.000 And then listen to Warren.

00:36:50.000 So Warren never gets asked the hard question.

00:36:51.000 Instead it's like, Senator Warren?

00:36:53.000 That's really what happened.

00:36:54.000 Abby Phillip just turned to Senator Warren instead of saying, So, you proposed Bernie's plan. 0.97

00:36:59.000 Then you decided that Bernie's plan was not workable, and you shifted away from it, which means you're a coward. 0.60

00:37:03.000 So what happened, Senator Warren? 0.82

00:37:04.000 Instead, it turns into, Senator Warren?

00:37:07.000 And Senator Warren then proceeds to babble cream of wheat for half a minute.

00:37:12.000 My approach to this is we've got to get as much help to as many people as quickly as possible.

00:37:18.000 I have worked out a plan where we can do that without raising taxes on middle class families by one thin dime.

00:37:26.000 No.

00:37:26.000 Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

00:37:27.000 And it's left to Amy Klobuchar to point out that Senator Warren is deeply unprincipled and dishonest.

00:37:32.000 Here is Amy Klobuchar, who's been an afterthought in the race, but her critiques of the Medicare for All plans are, of course, spot on.

00:37:38.000 By the way, Pete Buttigieg was not even there last night.

00:37:41.000 Pete Buttigieg basically stood there, he said his usual shtick, no one cares.

00:37:45.000 It's been fun.

00:37:46.000 Catch you later, Pete.

00:37:47.000 Anyway, Amy Klobuchar, she went after Warren, but nobody in the media will.

00:37:51.000 Senator Warren, you acknowledged that Medicare for All, that you couldn't get there right away.

00:37:56.000 You got on the bill that said on page 8, which is why I didn't get on it, that you would kick 149 million Americans off their current health insurance.

00:38:06.000 Then, a few months ago, you said, no, you're going to wait a while to get there.

00:38:11.000 And I think that was some acknowledgment that maybe what we're talking about is true.

00:38:15.000 Yes, correct.

00:38:16.000 But where?

00:38:17.000 So does CNN have any follow up questions for Senator Warren about that?

00:38:20.000 No.

00:38:20.000 Instead, Abby Phillip goes after Sanders.

00:38:23.000 Abby Phillip, I mean, I don't know if she was on Warren's payroll or what the story was last night, but it was pretty impressive.

00:38:28.000 It's an impressive showing.

00:38:29.000 Here's Abby Phillip going after Sanders on his spending programs. 0.94

00:38:31.000 Now, listen, we know Bernie Sanders is a socialist.

00:38:34.000 He just wants to nationalize all the industries, guys.

00:38:36.000 He just wants our pudding to be owned by the masses.

00:38:40.000 He wants socialist ownership of the means of production in tapioca pudding.

00:38:43.000 Is it all that difficult?

00:38:44.000 It's not difficult at all.

00:38:45.000 But instead of Abby Phillip asking Elizabeth Warren, so lady, you keep proposing all this crazy crap spending, and then you propose a wealth tax that's unconstitutional to pay for, that has no support among Congress people, and then you proclaim yourself more moderate than Bernie, so what's the deal? 0.96

00:39:00.000 Instead, she goes after Sanders again on the fact that he's a crazy old kook who likes to spend a lot of money. 0.93

00:39:04.000 Like, nothing has changed here. 0.98

00:39:06.000 Here is Abby Phillip going after Sanders again. 0.51

00:39:09.000 Senator Sanders, your campaign proposals would double federal spending over the next decade.

00:39:14.000 An unprecedented level of spending not seen since World War II.

00:39:18.000 How would you keep your plans from bankrupting the country?

00:39:22.000 Our plan wouldn't bankrupt the country.

00:39:24.000 In fact, it would much improve the well-being of working class families and the middle class. 0.55

00:39:31.000 Yes, so again, Abby Phillip going after Sanders and Sanders giving another dumb answer, but these Democratic debates, my goodness, they have not been good for the Democrats.

00:39:40.000 Really not good for the Democrats. 0.94

00:39:41.000 And Joe Biden, the frontrunner, the dude can't even string together a sentence.

00:39:43.000 Listen to Joe Biden's answer on healthcare right here.

00:39:47.000 He seems to forget exactly where he is and seems to suffer some sort of lapse in the middle of the answer.

00:39:54.000 I would argue that the way you control drug prices is you limit what they can charge for those prices.

00:40:00.000 You don't have to pay the price, limit what they can charge.

00:40:02.000 If, in fact, they charge more than we set the price for, they can, in fact, people can import from abroad, assuming that it is safe.

00:40:13.000 We, in fact, it's only yellow.

00:40:16.000 Uh, what?

00:40:18.000 What's going on now?

00:40:19.000 No one knows.

00:40:20.000 Okay, well, there was more to the debate, but that was basically the story of the night.

00:40:23.000 It was Warren and Sanders, and Tom Steyer, who was just kind of hanging out.

00:40:26.000 Everyone's like, why is Tom Steyer here?

00:40:28.000 And the answer is because he spent a lot of money to be on that stage.

00:40:31.000 Like, a lot of money to be on that stage.

00:40:33.000 Tom Steyer's closing is worthy of note simply because this person has somehow been able to buy his way to 15% support in the early states according to the latest polling.

00:40:41.000 Here is Tom Steyer.

00:40:43.000 Saying some weird stuff about how sports is played, which is odd.

00:40:48.000 I played team sports my entire life.

00:40:51.000 The bond between teammates is deep and emotional and full of love.

00:40:55.000 And as far as I'm concerned, the American people are my teammates. 0.93

00:40:59.000 And if there's one thing I will not permit, it is someone to run down the field and kick my teammate in the face.

00:41:07.000 That was a wild shift.

00:41:08.000 Do we even know what sport we're playing?

00:41:12.000 I'm pretty sure that somebody would throw the penalty, but my favorite part of that is that he's on the same stage as Elizabeth Warren who just put a boot in Bernie Sanders' face.

00:41:19.000 His teammate.

00:41:20.000 And he's sitting there like, I'm not getting involved.

00:41:22.000 He's literally the third person as Elizabeth Warren comes over and gets in a fight with Bernie Sanders.

00:41:28.000 Five seconds after he says, I will not permit anyone to take a boot and put it in my teammate's face.

00:41:33.000 He's standing there going, what the F am I supposed to do?

00:41:36.000 As Bernie is approached by Warren, who refuses to shake his hand because again, she's not a nice person.

00:41:42.000 This tape, I'm never going to get over it.

00:41:43.000 We're going to have to, we're going to have to get a lip reader in here because there's no question you could probably figure out what they are saying.

00:41:51.000 But Steyer's like, so remember that time when I said I was going to be brave and defend my allies?

00:41:55.000 Yeah, I'm just going to like walk over here.

00:41:57.000 I'm just gonna see you later a little bit.

00:41:59.000 Trevor Noah had this exactly right.

00:42:01.000 Noah's actually been quite good on the Democratic debates.

00:42:03.000 He said, this is like an old couple arguing at the diner.

00:42:06.000 No, but at dinner. 1.00

00:42:07.000 It's just irritating and foolish. 0.99

00:42:10.000 That was the most unnecessary nitpicky argument you will ever see in a presidential debate. 0.98

00:42:15.000 You know what it felt like?

00:42:16.000 It felt like we were watching an old couple fight in a diner.

00:42:19.000 That's what it looked like.

00:42:20.000 You know, it was just like, I thought you said you were getting an appetizer.

00:42:24.000 Yeah, I am.

00:42:26.000 I'm getting soup.

00:42:27.000 That is an appetizer.

00:42:28.000 No, soup is a side.

00:42:30.000 No, if it comes before the meal, it's an appetizer.

00:42:34.000 Correct.

00:42:36.000 Correct.

00:42:37.000 And then CNN's Van Jones summed it up well, he said, listen, there is nothing on that stage that can take out Trump.

00:42:41.000 Nothing on that stage can take out Trump, which is 100% true.

00:42:45.000 Who on that stage is going to take out Trump?

00:42:46.000 Elizabeth Warren, who's most calculated and annoying. 1.00

00:42:49.000 I mean. 0.78

00:42:50.000 She is so much more annoying than Hillary Clinton. 1.00

00:42:51.000 I used to think not, but she has gotten to be so irritating and so self-righteous and so terrible. 1.00

00:42:57.000 She's less corrupt than Hillary Clinton because she hasn't had as long a history in politics, but she is just... The self-righteousness with which she treats everybody else, when she herself is the most cynical politician on the stage, is truly galling. 0.99

00:43:08.000 And then you have Bernie, who is just a 19... a 19...

00:43:13.000 18 wobbly.

00:43:14.000 He's just he's like an actual international socialist of America.

00:43:17.000 And then you have Joe Biden, who's not even a sentient.

00:43:20.000 He's a starfish at this point.

00:43:21.000 He's got the sentient qualities of a of a basic form of biological life.

00:43:26.000 Van Jones on CNN is like, yeah, I'm not feeling great today, guys.

00:43:29.000 Not great.

00:43:30.000 To see those two have that level of vitriol was very dispiriting, and I want to say that tonight for me was dispiriting.

00:43:37.000 Democrats are going to have to do better than what we saw tonight.

00:43:40.000 There was nothing I saw tonight that would be able to take Donald Trump out, and I want to see a Democrat in the White House as soon as possible.

00:43:46.000 There was nothing tonight that, if you're looking at this thing, you say any of these people are prepared for what Donald Trump is going to do to us, and to see further division tonight is very dispiriting.

00:43:55.000 Well, yeah, I mean, it should be dispiriting if you're a Democrat.

00:43:58.000 And if you're a Bernie, if you're a Bernie fan, you've got to be fighting mad.

00:44:01.000 And you've got to be thinking to yourself, this Democratic Party, the way they've treated this guy is truly egregious.

00:44:06.000 Because it is, just from any objective level.

00:44:07.000 The way the Democratic Party has treated Sanders is truly egregious.

00:44:10.000 And yes, I'm being a little bit cynical because I would love to see the Bernie fans stay home from the polls and not vote for Elizabeth Warren or Joe Biden because they're ticked off.

00:44:17.000 Sure, I'd love to see that.

00:44:18.000 I'm not going to pretend I don't have a dog in this fight, but just trying to take myself out of it, if I were a Bernie fan today, which I'm not, Even as a non-Bernie fan, just trying to be honest, that was truly awful.

00:44:28.000 It was truly awful in every way.

00:44:30.000 And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bernie get a little bump.

00:44:33.000 I wouldn't.

00:44:34.000 Just because he's not Elizabeth Warren and she is Awful in every way, and so is CNN.

00:44:39.000 CNN deserves all the flak they're taking today.

00:44:41.000 Alrighty, well, quick thing that I like, and then we'll give you the quick impeachment update.

00:44:46.000 So, the quick thing that I like, as I mentioned early on, it is my birthday.

00:44:49.000 That is a good time to express my appreciation to all of you.

00:44:52.000 Thank you for bringing us through another year.

00:44:54.000 Thank you to the fans.

00:44:55.000 Thank you to people who listen to the show.

00:44:57.000 Honestly, I'm more grateful that you listen to the message of the show than that you listen to the show itself.

00:45:01.000 Thanks to all of our members who help us bring the show to you.

00:45:04.000 Thanks to our fantastic staff over here.

00:45:05.000 I know there's an Oscar speech now.

00:45:07.000 And I shouldn't be giving an Oscar speech because I'm not actually a transgender, half-Native American, half-black woman.

00:45:12.000 But it doesn't matter.

00:45:13.000 I'm going to thank everybody on staff who, when I'm not ripping on them in ZipRecruiter ads, actually does a quite fine job.

00:45:18.000 And thanks to all of my business partners and everybody else.

00:45:21.000 Thanks to my family, obviously.

00:45:23.000 Best birthday present so far I received actually from the Jewish publisher Artscroll.

00:45:26.000 They sent me an iPad loaded up with all of their material.

00:45:29.000 You should go check out Artscroll.

00:45:30.000 They're great.

00:45:30.000 They're two really kind of big Jewish publishers.

00:45:32.000 Koren and Artscroll, both of them are fantastic.

00:45:34.000 So that is a shout out to my Jew crew.

00:45:36.000 But in any case, we run the media and the weather, guys.

00:45:40.000 Thanks so much.

00:45:40.000 I've gotten a lot of emails wishing me happy birthday.

00:45:42.000 I really am honored by that and I'm grateful for your prayers and your birthday wishes.

00:45:47.000 It really means a lot to me.

00:45:49.000 Okay, now quick impeachment update.

00:45:50.000 So the Democrats have now sent their impeachment managers over to the Senate.

00:45:56.000 And those managers are going to be Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler, which is not a surprise.

00:45:59.000 Schiff chairs the Intelligence Committee, Nadler chairs the Judiciary Committee.

00:46:02.000 That is Pelosi steering directly into conflict because she figures that Schiff will be asked tough questions by Republicans, that Schiff will be dragged through the mud, and that controversy is not bad for her because, frankly, this thing is generating no heat at all.

00:46:14.000 Any heat that is generated, she hopes, Will lead to headlines over impeachment since most people have already tuned out at this point.

00:46:21.000 That is why she is sending over Schiff and Jerry Nadler as well.

00:46:25.000 As far as the witnesses, it is clear that witnesses will be called.

00:46:29.000 They're not the votes to just dismiss this thing out of hand.

00:46:31.000 There are too many Republican senators who already said they want witnesses.

00:46:33.000 Frankly, I want witnesses.

00:46:34.000 I have no fear of witnesses saying whatever it is they're going to say.

00:46:38.000 More transparency is good, whether we're talking Democrats or whether we are talking Republicans.

00:46:42.000 So that is where things stand in terms of impeachment.

00:46:44.000 The vote is taking place today to send over the impeachment charges to the Senate.

00:46:49.000 The trial is supposed to start next Tuesday.

00:46:50.000 So we are going to be treated to the spectacle, in all likelihood, of the President of the United States giving a State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress, well under the threat of impeachment, which should be pretty great TV.

00:47:03.000 I don't really like the State of the Union address. 0.97

00:47:04.000 I think it's a monarchical, stupid institution, but I will be watching that. 0.98

00:47:08.000 Won't you, too? 1.00

00:47:10.000 Alrighty, well, that's all we have for today.

00:47:12.000 At least for now.

00:47:54.000 With just 20 days to go before the Iowa caucuses, the Democrats faced off last night in Des Moines, Iowa, and everybody lost.

00:48:02.000 That's right, nobody won.

00:48:03.000 Not Biden, not Bernie, not Warren, not Pete, not the voters, certainly not the viewers.

00:48:07.000 Every candidate did terribly.

00:48:10.000 We will examine why and how that train wreck happened and what it means for 2020.
