Andrew Scheer delivers a speech to the Conservative caucus in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on the eve of the mid-term election, where he calls on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to do more to stop the flow of illegal immigrants across the border into Canada.
00:00:00.480You're listening to The Blueprint, Canada's Conservative Podcast.
00:00:07.960Well, they thought they were going to have an easy day over there today, but not so fast, Mr. Speaker.
00:00:15.600What is it going to take for the Prime Minister to have any respect for any laws in this country that may curb his out-of-control behaviour?
00:00:27.100And now, here's your host, Tony Clement.
00:00:30.000You're listening to The Blueprint, and here is Leader Andrew Scheer's comments to the Assembled Caucus of the Conservative Party of Canada here in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
00:00:43.000Merci beaucoup, merci beaucoup, chers amis, pour cet accueil très chaleureux, très formidable.
00:00:48.480Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen, for that very warm welcome.
00:00:51.800Thank you very much, Lisa, for that very kind introduction.
00:01:33.980Thanks very much to our House Leadership Team.
00:01:41.060And, of course, our caucus chair, David Sweet, et du Senat, leaders Larry Smith et Yona Martin, Whips, Don Plett et Jean-Guy Dagenais, and the Senate caucus chair, David Wells.
00:01:51.200Thank you to all of you for being here as well.
00:02:01.380I've made it to every region of this beautiful country.
00:02:04.580I've eaten more hot dogs and hamburgers than I care to admit.
00:02:08.320I've even started to believe some of the things Jill's been talking about, this whole exercise thing that she may be on to something.
00:02:15.740But it's been such a great summer because I've had the opportunity to meet with so many great Canadians from coast to coast, every corner of our great nation.
00:02:25.320And some who have been dedicated supporters for a while, some who are just brand new to politics, and many more who are just growing sick and tired of liberal policies that make their lives harder every single day.
00:03:31.780Canadians are telling us that they are angry that the crisis has been going on since January, and still the Liberals have done nothing to stop the flow of illegal border crossings.
00:03:40.660They're angry that people are trying to take advantage of our generous system.
00:03:48.600Canadians are proud to do our share to help the world's most vulnerable and offer protection to those facing persecution and violence.
00:03:55.400But, you know, I've been to upstate New York, and I've been to North Dakota.
00:04:03.080Yet, on Trudeau's watch, thousands have walked in, encouraged by his irresponsible comments that everyone will be welcomed when he knows it's not true.
00:04:27.000And, you know, it's not fair and compassionate to the hundreds of thousands of people facing real persecution and violence in refugee camps around the world
00:04:37.240who now have to wait longer because of Trudeau's irresponsible actions.
00:04:41.080People are also outraged that the Liberal government chose to give a $10.5 million payout to Omar Khadr, a decision they made on their own.
00:05:04.040When we get back to Ottawa, we'll be asking the Liberals about that, too.
00:05:24.720But most of all, we've been hearing from another group of Canadians.
00:05:28.760We've been hearing from the very people that Justin Trudeau said he was going to help.
00:05:33.300The very people that he claimed to work for.
00:05:36.900They're feeling mad, they're feeling betrayed, and they're feeling like they were lied to.
00:05:42.560They believed that he was going to be the great defender of the middle class.
