00:00:00.480 You're listening to The Blueprint, Canada's Conservative Podcast.
00:00:07.960 Well, they thought they were going to have an easy day over there today, but not so fast, Mr. Speaker.
00:00:15.600 What is it going to take for the Prime Minister to have any respect for any laws in this country that may curb his out-of-control behaviour?
00:00:27.100 And now, here's your host, Tony Clement.
00:00:30.000 You're listening to The Blueprint, and here is Leader Andrew Scheer's comments to the Assembled Caucus of the Conservative Party of Canada here in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
00:00:43.000 Merci beaucoup, merci beaucoup, chers amis, pour cet accueil très chaleureux, très formidable.
00:00:48.480 Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen, for that very warm welcome.
00:00:51.800 Thank you very much, Lisa, for that very kind introduction.
00:00:55.580 It's great to be here in Winnipeg.
00:00:57.520 C'est un grand plaisir d'être ici, à Winnipeg, avec vous.
00:01:01.840 It's especially great to be with you with this hard-working, dedicated, principled, and enthusiastic Conservative Caucus.
00:01:08.600 And I want to give a special shout-out and thank you to our House Leadership Team, to our Deputy Leader, Lisa Raitt, our House Leader, Candice Bergen, Notre Lieutenant Politique au Québec, Alain Reyes, our Deputy House Leader, Chris Warkenden, our Whip, Mark Strahl, be kind to the Whip, our Deputy Whip, John Brassard, and our caucus party liaison, Diane Finley.
00:01:33.980 Thanks very much to our House Leadership Team.
00:01:41.060 And, of course, our caucus chair, David Sweet, et du Senat, leaders Larry Smith et Yona Martin, Whips, Don Plett et Jean-Guy Dagenais, and the Senate caucus chair, David Wells.
00:01:51.200 Thank you to all of you for being here as well.
00:01:53.340 So, it's been a great summer.
00:02:00.040 I've had a lot of fun.
00:02:01.380 I've made it to every region of this beautiful country.
00:02:04.580 I've eaten more hot dogs and hamburgers than I care to admit.
00:02:08.320 I've even started to believe some of the things Jill's been talking about, this whole exercise thing that she may be on to something.
00:02:15.740 But it's been such a great summer because I've had the opportunity to meet with so many great Canadians from coast to coast, every corner of our great nation.
00:02:25.320 And some who have been dedicated supporters for a while, some who are just brand new to politics, and many more who are just growing sick and tired of liberal policies that make their lives harder every single day.
00:02:36.940 Thank you.
00:03:06.940 Now, what's got them so upset?
00:03:15.580 Well, for starters, there's the problem on our border.
00:03:19.480 The 10 cities, the thousands of people who are illegally crossing.
00:03:23.900 Il y a le problème à la frontière, les villes du temps, les milliers de personnes qui arrivent ici et demandent le statut de réfugié.
00:03:31.780 Canadians are telling us that they are angry that the crisis has been going on since January, and still the Liberals have done nothing to stop the flow of illegal border crossings.
00:03:40.660 They're angry that people are trying to take advantage of our generous system.
00:03:48.600 Canadians are proud to do our share to help the world's most vulnerable and offer protection to those facing persecution and violence.
00:03:55.400 But, you know, I've been to upstate New York, and I've been to North Dakota.
00:03:59.800 Those places are safe.
00:04:03.080 Yet, on Trudeau's watch, thousands have walked in, encouraged by his irresponsible comments that everyone will be welcomed when he knows it's not true.
00:04:12.340 And we already have backlogs growing.
00:04:27.000 And, you know, it's not fair and compassionate to the hundreds of thousands of people facing real persecution and violence in refugee camps around the world
00:04:37.240 who now have to wait longer because of Trudeau's irresponsible actions.
00:04:41.080 People are also outraged that the Liberal government chose to give a $10.5 million payout to Omar Khadr, a decision they made on their own.
00:05:04.040 When we get back to Ottawa, we'll be asking the Liberals about that, too.
00:05:24.720 But most of all, we've been hearing from another group of Canadians.
00:05:28.760 We've been hearing from the very people that Justin Trudeau said he was going to help.
00:05:33.300 The very people that he claimed to work for.
00:05:36.900 They're feeling mad, they're feeling betrayed, and they're feeling like they were lied to.
00:05:42.560 They believed that he was going to be the great defender of the middle class.
00:05:46.620 A message he sold so well.
00:05:49.400 And yet, he's hurting the very people he claimed to help.
00:05:52.600 He's raising payroll taxes, making it more expensive for employers to hire people and retain their staff.
00:05:58.360 He cancelled tax breaks that hardworking Canadians need.
00:06:01.820 He's imposing a carbon tax that will raise the cost of everything and kill jobs across the country.
00:06:08.340 And just when you need a stiff drink to cope with all these new Liberal tax hikes,
00:06:14.760 you realize that he's raised the taxes on beer and wine, too.
00:06:18.500 Lors de ces deux premières années au pouvoir, Justin Trudeau n'a fait que de nuire aux personnes qu'il prétend aider.
00:06:28.500 That's the lie of the left.
00:06:30.100 The Liberals think they hold a monopoly on compassion.
00:06:34.660 But tell me, what is compassionate about what he's doing?
00:06:37.920 They don't know, they don't understand, and believe me, they don't care.
00:06:41.980 And I think that realization is starting to sink in all across the country.
00:06:46.820 Higher taxes help no one.
00:06:48.780 If they knew, if they understood, and if they cared, they wouldn't be raising those payroll taxes,
00:06:53.400 making it harder for businesses to retain their staff or hire new employees.
00:06:57.340 If they knew, if they understood, if they cared, the Liberals would not be punishing local businesses
00:07:19.560 and their employees with crippling new taxes.
00:07:21.800 Trudeau wants to make local businesses pay more, regardless of their bottom line,
00:07:33.700 or the workers that they'll be forced to lay off.
00:07:36.080 And we're not talking about multinational corporations here.
00:07:38.680 In fact, they're left protected.
00:07:40.920 We're talking about the mom-and-pop businesses that sustain our communities.
00:07:44.860 The cashier working at the hardware store down the street,
00:07:47.260 or the college kid who just got his first job with a local landscaper.
00:07:50.940 Hurting small business job creators is dangerous to the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Canadians.
00:08:14.500 And look at what the Liberals say.
00:08:18.520 Justin Trudeau actually said that he believes that small businesses are actually just ways for wealthier Canadians to save on their taxes.
00:08:28.360 That was his direct quote.
00:08:30.080 Now, I have no doubt that Justin Trudeau and Bill Morneau move in the kinds of circles where lots of people do that.
00:08:37.180 But we talk to, and we fight for, the plumbers, the mechanics, the grocery store owners, the farmers, the ranchers,
00:08:43.700 who just want to create jobs in their communities and save for their families.
00:08:47.200 So you tell me what's fair about a landscaper who can't hire more workers when these tax changes come into effect,
00:09:16.420 because his tax burden is too heavy.
00:09:18.920 You tell me what's fair for college students who can't find work in the summer because local businesses aren't offering any new position.
00:09:25.380 What's compassionate about the mechanic who has to cancel expansion plans because business is about to get more expensive?
00:09:31.860 Well, you're right.
00:09:32.860 There's nothing fair about it, and there's nothing compassionate about it,
00:09:35.440 and Conservatives will fight this every step of the way.
00:09:37.900 These are good people, hardworking people.
00:10:03.940 These are honest people who are being demonized by Justin Trudeau's liberals just to pay for their out-of-control spending.
00:10:11.600 These are the people who create jobs and stimulate the economy.
00:10:15.120 I've talked to so many men and women on the farm who are in the combine at 6 a.m.
00:10:19.820 and run it till midnight so they can get their crop off before the frost hits.
00:10:23.660 Families who live above the pizza shop they opened up years ago.
00:10:27.100 Can you imagine the shock of the mechanic who wakes up early to get to work hours before his employees,
00:10:34.140 hours before the five people who have jobs thanks to the risk he's taken and the hard work he's putting in,
00:10:39.120 only to be told at the end of the day that the liberals think that he's a tax cheat.
00:10:44.760 And then as he's sitting around the dinner table, he opens up the newspaper and reads
00:10:49.160 that the new taxes he's paying is going to bail out big companies like Bombardier.
00:10:55.160 That is shameful. That's not right.
00:10:57.120 Perhaps the fancy socks, magazine covers, and private islands have clouded his judgment or caused
00:11:03.120 him to forget. But we know that the liberal policies that he's proposing are hurting the very people
00:11:05.120 that he's going to worry about.
00:11:06.120 Perhaps the fancy socks, magazine covers, and private islands have clouded his judgment or caused him to forget.
00:11:11.960 Perhaps the fancy socks, magazine covers, and private islands have clouded his judgment or caused him to forget.
00:11:17.080 leurs amis ne vont pas être affectés par ces décisions.
00:11:22.080 Perhaps the fancy socks, magazine covers and private islands
00:11:25.080 have clouded his judgement or caused him to forget.
00:11:29.080 But we know that the Liberal policies that he's proposing
00:11:32.080 are hurting the very people he claims to help.
00:11:35.080 New entrants to the workforce, young Canadians, new Canadians
00:11:38.080 who have come to Canada for the hope and opportunity that we provide.
00:11:41.080 Now our job, from now until the 2019 election and beyond,
00:11:46.080 is to convince Canadians that there is a better way.
00:11:49.080 We need to bring our positive message to all Canadians.
00:11:52.080 The Conservative Party has always been the party of prosperity.
00:11:56.080 The party that celebrates success and wants all Canadians to share in it.
00:12:01.080 The party that understands that there is more to society than just government.
00:12:05.080 The party that knows that free people making free decisions
00:12:07.080 grows an economy and makes a country stronger.
00:12:10.080 The party that rejects the politics of envy
00:12:13.080 and refuses to pit one group of Canadians against another.
00:12:16.080 Now, it's going to take a lot of hard work.
00:12:37.080 But I know I can count on all of you.
00:12:40.080 The best and most hardest working people on Parliament Hill.
00:12:43.080 I'm counting on your support, your talent and your wisdom
00:12:46.080 to help us get the job done.
00:12:48.080 We know that what we do benefits the lives of all Canadians.
00:12:51.080 We know that we don't just lower taxes
00:12:53.080 so we can get a favourable opinion piece from the Financial Post
00:12:56.080 or balance the budget so that we like to see black ink on the ledger books.
00:13:00.080 We cut taxes so families have more money at the end of the month
00:13:03.080 to pay their priorities, to spend on their priorities,
00:13:06.080 to invest in their children's education,
00:13:08.080 to make much-needed improvements to their homes.
00:13:10.080 We balance the budget so that future generations of Canadians
00:13:13.080 don't have to pay more interest payments on the debt
00:13:16.080 that the Trudeau Liberals are racking up today.
00:13:18.080 That's why we do what we do.
00:13:20.080 So as we go back to Ottawa, the Liberals can continue to listen
00:13:24.080 and take their cues from the cocktail circuits
00:13:27.080 and the Hollywood elites and billionaire CEOs.
00:13:30.080 We'll take ours from the soccer fields, the legion halls,
00:13:33.080 the grocery stores, the local businesses who create jobs and opportunities
00:13:36.080 because that's who we are and that's who we're fighting for.
00:13:38.080 So let's get to work.
