00:00:27.380 google play and spotify you name it it is out there on today's show the liberal government is
00:00:32.560 giving away free drug paraphernalia guess what you're paying for it to talk about this and so
00:00:38.000 much more we bring on dan major the health clinic he's also the member of parliament for riding
00:00:42.600 mountain thanks for coming on the show thank you jamie apparently it's been a while so yes
00:00:46.460 apologies not apologies at all the pool is busy and it's all good all right well thank you for
00:00:51.780 forgiving me so much unfortunately a bad topic yes the liberal government is seemingly down the path
00:00:58.820 of trying to normalize drug use yeah and not the like the hard stuff it's pretty nuts out there well
00:01:06.180 and it's like you you opened up with the like the your tax dollars are funding crack pipes tin foil
00:01:13.600 needles all these things that you you see in these vending machines that you can just walk up to
00:01:18.220 and uh we found this out uh we asked originally back in october at committee we asked health
00:01:24.760 canada whether they funded crack pipes and they said no all right we got it on camera here let's
00:01:30.060 play cut one cut one and play it is any funding provided by health canada or the public health
00:01:34.800 agency of canada being used to purchase crack pipes
00:01:37.400 no no that sounds yeah pretty clear no okay but you and your team did some digging we did some
00:01:47.820 and you decided to ask again we asked again cut two and play cut two you testified at this committee
00:01:53.700 that no funding from health canada was being used to purchase crack pipes do you still stand by this
00:01:59.260 answer today so well health canada does not directly purchase harm reduction uh supplies health
00:02:05.820 canada does provide funding to community organizations that do invest in prevention
00:02:11.760 harm reduction and treatment projects and that funding can be used for harm reduction supplies
00:02:17.320 to minimize the transition that yeah and i it was a pretty direct question i said does does health
00:02:24.280 canada is any of the funding from health canada being used to purchase crack pipes it was just a
00:02:28.980 yes or no answer i appreciate the question yes we do yes i do community organizations for harm
00:02:34.220 reduction tools including pipes yes okay so she's using some technical language here not directly
00:02:40.280 harm but indirectly we are yes joseph trying to hide that right and that's in same in october same now
00:02:47.480 they still have this kind of language that they think somehow they're helping somebody but really
00:02:53.240 what they're doing jamie is enabling and they're keeping people that are addicted to drugs they're giving
00:02:58.280 them the tools and saying here have a crack try it like you know if you're gonna you're gonna use drugs
00:03:03.180 anyways the government's like enabling this whole process instead of focusing on the recovery and truly
00:03:09.220 helping um we were we did a walkabout in in the community in in Kelowna where uh where the vending machine
00:03:16.420 was and uh we had actually uh had it come up to us and started asking like you know who are you guys and
00:03:23.220 she was basically pleading for help she was the government is is uh basically has us stuck here
00:03:29.780 they're they're keeping us healthy but as addicts they're not giving us any opportunity to get out of
00:03:36.260 this to break the cycle to to give us get to recovery we says we're just trapped and you all you have
00:03:42.340 to do is look around here our community is just littered with and as we walked around the crack pipes like
00:03:48.100 they actually have a community uh volunteers that go around pick up the needles pick up the glass
00:03:53.620 that's on these trails where kids are right there right like i mean in in communities like it's it's
00:04:00.100 insane and uh and it's language like this coming right from health canada if they're trying to
00:04:05.780 normalize and look at look at what we're doing and it's it's it's basically destroying communities and
00:04:11.540 destroying uh peoples and families lives so they're calling it harm reduction but the number of
00:04:17.380 overdoses has never been higher that's correct so how is this fancy language helping those like
00:04:23.940 the individual you met was it's like how how do we get people better well we get to the recovery
00:04:31.460 stop enabling this yeah i think that's the first stop enabling this right like we we need to get
00:04:37.140 to the point where it's not okay to go and down to the sidewalk and get a crack pipe and then go find
00:04:45.140 some crack like it that is not a normal thing so this is the kind of things that are going on and
00:04:50.820 and they need to be stopped especially your tax dollars let's go buy this yeah exactly tax dollars
00:04:56.420 are paying for this let's go up cut three i'm gonna why don't you set this up for us you mentioned a
00:05:00.500 few moments ago about the vending machine this is in colonna you said yeah um set paint the picture
00:05:05.940 for us and then we'll get uh super producer nick to play it okay so this is a busy street actually
00:05:11.060 uh we had to walk there was a community center a couple restaurants across the way at tim horton's
00:05:17.140 i think just just off to the side here busy busy place vending machine and in this there's some
00:05:23.300 safety there's some mess over there yeah and so yeah that will deal with that one thing at a time
00:05:28.740 there's there's needles there's condoms there's uh nolex alone kits down the safety kits they call
00:05:35.700 them all the paraphernalia oh uh plastic straws ironically plastic you know there's a band on
00:05:42.260 plastic we can't use plastic yes exactly but uh drug addicts can um things like glass pipes in
00:05:49.780 there and all that so all i was doing is you'll see uh is just you just it's a regular vending machine
00:05:55.540 you can't see the numbers like so i hit 25 or something out and out comes i think some uh straws
00:06:01.540 this on the side yeah is uh basically when when they're done using that they just figured well
00:06:06.580 here well there's some needles it's a pill bottle down there a kid that high like a four-year-old could
00:06:13.140 walk up and there's all the stuff that they're exposed to that is not normal but that is on a busy
00:06:18.980 street besides a very famous restaurants and this is what the future this is what health canada and
00:06:26.260 your tax dollars are funding and kelowna is a nice spot it's beautiful all right and i'll watch you do
00:06:30.900 this here you're looking around it fell down it fell down okay i can't believe you stuck your hand
00:06:36.180 in there but good job i i would have wore a glove or something but i know you're being a trooper
00:06:42.580 what do you got there i think they were uh plastic straws plastic straws for starting and just like
00:06:48.900 you didn't put in your credit card no that was just free of charge just come on up press a few
00:06:53.460 buttons they put the vending machine ironically so they got a lock on the vending machine so you
00:07:00.260 don't break into it and but but it's free so yeah but they got it reinforced too yeah that's some uh
00:07:07.060 protective barrier there yeah that's kind of just on the streets just on the street just hanging out
00:07:12.420 and a very and then and like houses are right beside this like this is a like it's a residential
00:07:18.500 there's apartment buildings are across and very modern but they've this is how much they've normalized
00:07:24.740 it and it's absolutely terrible it's destroying communities it's destroying people's lives like it's
00:07:30.340 it's it's this is harm reduction apparently according to liberals and the ndp in british columbia
00:07:35.140 i'm guessing that's harm harm reduction yeah and then when we know we uh it's not right and
00:07:41.380 so we were met was when we were out in uh kelowna penticton we're meeting with different stakeholders
00:07:46.500 anyway i met actually with a recovered addict he was he used um drugs he got hooked to i think
00:07:52.340 around 2023 or something like that but he got off but he says you know and he was he's against these
00:07:58.260 these uh vending machines the access to generally to all the paraphernalia he says you know you give me
00:08:03.540 a crack pipe and some tin foil to to do fentanyl he says you might as well give me a bullet in the gun
00:08:09.220 he says we are enabling so many people we're making it so easy just to even go and try it out
00:08:17.380 instead of putting more barriers out he says if i didn't have a vending machine and i was addicted
00:08:22.500 i would have to go to a pharmacy i would have to go somewhere to get these products and it would be
00:08:28.740 another barrier to maybe maybe i don't need this hit so bad like that was the explanation a recovered
00:08:34.180 addict told told me and that makes sense that's just common sense and meanwhile and again he was
00:08:41.140 another one that's saying this isn't working this is bad it's bad for society and it needs to stop
00:08:47.540 yeah the liberals and and some people that are promoting this harm reduction have an interesting
00:08:53.620 view that i don't agree with at all but saying that well we'll meet them where they're at okay
00:08:59.940 they're struggling and then when they if the the user decides that they're ready for treatment
00:09:06.900 there's usually not a spot right away so it could be months after that like the which puts it into a
00:09:12.420 further tailspin of of more drug use that's right it's as you said right at the top it's more
00:09:18.260 enabling it's making this normal this is not normal it isn't and the and the liberals have just made
00:09:24.660 it too easy for this to to happen yeah and hook more people into it it like you know and there's
00:09:31.300 kids there's kids walking around and thinking oh yeah well sure a guy's putting a needle in his arm
00:09:36.340 and injecting something into like that's normal yeah just normal i was uh walking into it was in
00:09:41.460 winnipeg like totally uh last weekend it was uh they were walking into the hockey game and on the
00:09:48.740 corner street corner there was a person obviously an addict but they had a blanket over top it was
00:09:54.580 cold of course it's winnipegry but the the young i would say about a nine ten year old uh boy with his
00:10:02.740 mom and they were just going to walk into the arena and they turned around and there's this guy sitting
00:10:08.180 down beside the lamppost the hold held up but he had a blanket over top of him and there he was
00:10:12.740 like attempting to smoke fentanyl right and he had to look like it was from here well i don't know
00:10:20.580 twice the length away but he just sat there and looked at this guy doing this at 10 years old
00:10:25.060 yeah and they were just going into a hockey game for heaven's sake and the liberals don't seem to mind
00:10:29.380 these supervised injection sites being near schools or daycare no no we haven't even got to that well
00:10:35.300 let's just show the graphic here so this is a supervised injection site so uh five year span
00:10:41.620 march to may uh 2020 25 so it looks like fentanyl is the uh unfortunate choice here at uh 48.6 percent
00:10:51.380 and uh math and a bunch of other so these are supervised injection sites where an individual can go in
00:10:57.060 get clean needles and stuff like that use their product uh no do they bring in their that's what i mean
00:11:04.180 use their yeah sorry use their as in the individuals their controlled substance or a legal drug they
00:11:08.740 bring it in they bring in their own fentanyl their own heroin their own methamphetamine they bring in
00:11:13.620 their own product and say here i want to use this and say okay here's a needle for you here's your
00:11:19.060 foil you can heat it up and make it a liquid right put it in the needle and check yourself and they make
00:11:23.700 sure that they're i guess not overdosing so i come in i sit down in front of you yeah and uh they there's cubicles
00:11:31.060 set up i went and visited one and uh there's they say here's your devices and that you slam it up put
00:11:39.620 it in your veins and just watch you fade to black or whatever happens and you're good they said that
00:11:45.380 probably about an hour you're in the facility and then you go out and then you come back maybe an hour
00:11:50.420 later for another hit and they watch this and there's people you know 10 times a day and i've one
00:11:56.660 thing i never realized jamie just how addictive fentanyl is yeah like it's it's if you aren't
00:12:03.220 like if you don't get your next hit within six hours and this is a recovering addict totally like
00:12:09.220 you are in full-blown psychosis and looking for something and that is why like that's what makes
00:12:15.380 fentanyl so dangerous right and then never mind what else is in the damn stuff right so i mean it is
00:12:21.300 i and that is probably what's why i'm so uh determined to get this off our street part of my
00:12:27.460 language but it's it is it is destroying people's lives and it's so addictive like i i had no idea
00:12:34.020 how addictive it is so yeah these people so supervised consumption sites you can snort inject uh inhale
00:12:43.140 that's basically it but get this you can't smoke oh well because they have standards it's against
00:12:48.580 building right well there you go like it's it's like it's it's moronic things like that right like
00:12:56.100 that's government that's how government operates right that's that's and then so in the site the
00:13:00.820 particular site i was in it was it was already closed it was like five o'clock at night and i thought
00:13:05.780 it was pretty cleaned up like there was no one in in the stall so they're on government hours yeah yeah
00:13:10.900 okay government hours okay but uh then i i happened to just look outside on the street of course by
00:13:16.420 then the users and the people are out outside but outside this picture window there goes a young couple
00:13:23.060 with a baby in a carriage right beside a guy that was using fentanyl smoking it whatever he was doing
00:13:30.260 right there's a couple two or three of them right and it was it's just a picture i will never forget like
00:13:34.340 like we got to get this away especially away from like that is that is like this has to stop and
00:13:42.900 why should a child be exposed to this stuff like we can do so much better and we can do so much
00:13:48.820 better for our people but meanwhile you got health canada and the liberals saying this is normal we're
00:13:54.020 no it's not you know and so so that site that you visited are they offering treatment there
00:13:59.060 it these supervised injection sites what kind of treatment uh well that's a good question when we
00:14:04.820 say about just getting rid of the consumption sites that's what we're talking about like like enabling
00:14:11.300 people and uh looking after these uh you know addressing the consumption sites is kind of that would
00:14:17.700 stop the the supervision and the the normalization of using drugs in the first place you want to make
00:14:23.860 yourself better well then maybe we should be starting to look at a recovery but your tax dollars should be
00:14:28.580 going more maybe into recovery versus buying crack pipes my goodness and and you know and uh
00:14:36.020 having these facilities around so well our time is pretty much up oh well but as you may remember
00:14:41.220 the guests always get the last word thanks for everything you're doing on the health file by the way
00:14:45.380 so feel free to close this show out well you know jamie it's thank you for what you do and in bringing
00:14:50.660 uh highlights to this project i am i got appointed to be the health shadow minister i guess this fall and
00:14:58.340 i i never realized just like how much damage uh opioid uh opioids are doing to our society and it's uh
00:15:08.900 you know it's a very eye-opening experience and thanks to platforms like you're doing here today and
00:15:13.460 exposing this out i think we we've got a lot of work to do but i i'm sure we'll we'll keep on fighting
00:15:18.740 the battle for the canadians and and and thanks to you uh we'll get the word spread around well dan thank
00:15:23.780 you you're doing a fantastic job as health critic your social media is just blowing up with all the
00:15:28.980 things you're exposing and actually just making people aware that this is what's going on in the
00:15:33.700 country now most people don't even know if it's not happening right there in their community uh some
00:15:38.900 probably don't even believe it because even i didn't believe it until i saw the the video evidence
00:15:43.300 so thank you dan dan major member of parliament for riding mountain also our health critic thank you for
00:15:48.420 his time thank you for yours guarantee this is a message you're not seeing in the mainstream media
