The Candice Malcolm Show - Canada erases its own history

00:00:00.000 Canada erases its own history and then imports foreign history and foreign culture to replace 0.99

00:00:04.880 our own. It's a slap in the face and Canadians have had enough. I'm Candice Malcolm and this

00:00:09.280 is The Candice Malcolm Show.

00:00:40.940 the biggest stories of the 2020s so far has been the rise of the woke mob. Their insistence that

00:00:45.420 everything about the West, everything about Canada, can be boiled down to a few neo-Marxist buzzwords,

00:00:50.140 colonialism, settler, white supremacist, oppressor, illegitimate government, and unceded land. Now,

00:00:56.560 the big surprise about this woke movement, which probably has the support of what, maybe 10% of

00:01:00.860 the population, probably a lot less? The big surprise? It's been their success. In the course

00:01:04.880 of just a few years, the woke mob has successfully managed to convince governments and schools across

00:01:08.940 Canada to rewrite our entire history, to scrub our public institutions of any mention of the old 0.98

00:01:14.220 erased history. Elites in this country have been more than happy to bend the knee, to roll over,

00:01:18.500 and to accept this new insane dogma. Out with the old, and in with the new. Sir John A. Macdonald,

00:01:24.520 anything to do with the royal family, anything to do with the education of native Canadians like

00:01:28.460 Egerton Ryerson, who devoted his entire life to helping educate poor First Nation children,

00:01:33.200 it all had to go. Their names were wiped off streets, buildings, schools, and in some cases,

00:01:37.080 even removed from the history book. And what was it replaced with? Well, sometimes the woke left came up

00:01:42.260 with these bland, meaningless names reminiscent of the USSR or Orwell's novel 1984. For instance,

00:01:48.480 Ryerson High School in Ontario was renamed Old North Public School. And Ryerson University in

00:01:54.260 Toronto, of course, was renamed Toronto Metropolitan University. Not surprisingly,

00:01:58.560 Justin Trudeau's legacy media in Canada has been cheering this all on. They've been telling us how

00:02:02.340 progressive and how liberal it is to erase one's own history, to stop educating new generations of

00:02:07.840 Canadians, and to stop telling the stories of how Canada actually became one of the most free,

00:02:12.400 peaceful, and prosperous societies in all of human history. Let's just erase our history and see what

00:02:17.620 happens. What could possibly go wrong? So sometimes these new names are bland and meaningless. Other

00:02:22.140 times to replace the history of the French, British, and Scottish explorers, the people who built Canada,

00:02:27.240 you know, the country that we live in, with the imagined forefathers of Canada, the First Nations

00:02:31.580 leaders who themselves had no part in the founding of Canada as a country or the establishments of the

00:02:37.300 institutions thereof. We're told that these are the real heroes and the real creators of Canada.

00:02:41.700 And with the facts or the history, in New Canada, French and English Canadians are bad, 1.00

00:02:46.220 no matter what. And any other culture, literally any other culture, any other practice, no matter

00:02:51.240 how barbaric or sadistic or un-Canadian, any other practice, any other culture is celebrated, 0.51

00:02:56.380 promoted, and will replace whatever we had before. So the latest example of this, and may I say the

00:03:01.580 most absurd thing that I have seen in a long time in Canadian politics, just happened last week in

00:03:06.000 Toronto. Thursday, December 14th, Socialist Mayor Olivia Chow and all of city council, they all voted

00:03:12.860 unanimously to rename the city's iconic Dundas Square. What will the new name be? Well, they

00:03:18.440 decided it will be called Sankofa Square. Dundas had to go, according to the Marxists who think they

00:03:23.360 run the city of Toronto, because of his namesake, Henry Dundas, and his alleged connections to slavery.

00:03:28.900 So was Dundas a slave trader? Did he own slaves? Did he create slavery, as many on the left would have,

00:03:34.400 he believes? No, quite the opposite, actually. Henry Dundas was an abolitionist. He fought for

00:03:38.820 the emancipation of slaves. He sponsored many bills to end slavery, including a bill to end

00:03:42.700 hereditary slave ownership. And he helped convince the British to wage a war would eventually lead to

00:03:48.160 the end of the transatlantic slave trade. But according to the woke academics, because he advocated

00:03:53.220 for a gradual change instead of an overnight revolution, I guess that was evil. So there you have

00:03:58.880 it. Dundas had to go. So what about this new name, Sankofa? Where did it come from and what does it

00:04:03.580 mean? Is it named after a brave native warrior of First Nations tribe in Canada? Does it have any

00:04:09.460 significant meaning to this land or to Canada? No, absolutely not. It has absolutely nothing to do

00:04:15.940 with Canada, nothing to do with our country, and nothing to do with our history. The new name,

00:04:20.620 Sankofa, comes from an African tribe called the Akan tribe. And it means something like to go back and

00:04:25.600 get it. Okay, so the name was apparently in an effort to make bot Canadians feel more at home or 0.86

00:04:30.620 empowered or something. Let me just quickly point out, I pointed this out on the program before,

00:04:34.660 but the vast, overwhelming majority, more than 90% of Black people in Canada are themselves first

00:04:40.300 generation or second generation Canadians, meaning that they either emigrated themselves or their

00:04:44.920 parents did this according to Statistics Canada. 92% of Black people in Canada chose Canada or their

00:04:50.760 parents chose Canada. So if Canada were truly a racist, white supremacist, slavery endorsing country, 0.98

00:04:56.580 simple question, why did they all choose to come here? Why did they choose this country? Why are 0.99

00:05:01.460 they in Canada? It's almost as if the leftist narrative about Canada makes absolutely no sense

00:05:06.440 at all. Well, this is where things get interesting, because as it turns out, the new woke name, which

00:05:11.540 comes from that African tribe, may not be so innocent. I really wonder, did city council bother 1.00

00:05:16.400 googling this tribe before the vote? Did anyone do any research about the tribe? Because they probably

00:05:21.300 should have. As Truner journalist and editor Andrew Lawton reports, according to renowned,

00:05:25.820 Ghana historian Ivor Wilkes, the Akan tribe were slave owners and slave traders. Yes, you heard

00:05:31.940 that correctly. They had their hand in creating the transatlantic slave trade, believe it or not. 0.90

00:05:36.460 According to Wilkes, the Akan exchanged their gold for these slaves, who rewarded their Akan 0.99

00:05:41.040 masters by creating an agricultural revolution during the 15th and 16th century. Yes, the Akan

00:05:46.320 people imported slaves to help clear their forests, where they searched for gold, but they also sold

00:05:51.680 slaves to Europeans fueling the transatlantic slave trade. They were the ones hosting those slave 0.93

00:05:56.760 auctions. They were selling their people to the Europeans. Unbelievable. In 2006, Ghana acknowledged

00:06:02.740 this dark chapter in their history, and they apologized to the descendants of slaves for their role in the

00:06:09.400 slave trade. Yes, the Akan people were some of the original slave traders. And yet, the name apparently will 0.99

00:06:15.340 now be forever engraved in the city of Toronto as the new name of Dundas Square. Canada is a country

00:06:21.000 led by people who hate us. They hate our values, they hate our culture, and mostly, honestly, they hate 0.88

00:06:25.940 our skin color. They'll stop at nothing to erase our history and tear apart our civilization. Now, keep 1.00

00:06:30.700 this in mind. It is against this anti-Canadian backdrop, many other stories just like this, that we

00:06:35.740 learned about a new statue being erected up the road in Branton, Ontario, some 20 miles away from Dundas

00:06:41.080 Square. What kind of statue, may I ask? Well, this is a 55-foot statue of a Hindu god. Here is what the

00:06:47.500 statue looked like. As True Norse Harrison Faulkner points out, he writes, Canada in 2023, Toronto, Sir

00:06:53.640 John A. Macdonald's statue at Queen's Park in a wooden box for over two years, Brampton, a brand new 55-foot

00:06:59.240 tall statue of Hanuman, the Hindu monkey commander of the Monkey Army. Now, I don't think Harrison is

00:07:05.200 blaming the Hindu temple in Brampton for the removal of the Sir John A. statues across Canada,

00:07:10.560 but he's just pointing out that these two things are happening simultaneously in our culture. This

00:07:15.400 is a zeitgeist of our country. We hate our own. We celebrate everyone else. So, is Harrison being a

00:07:20.860 little disrespectful to our Hindu friends? Maybe a little. He sent me this description explaining his

00:07:25.520 source for why he called Hanuman a monkey commander. It comes from none other than the editors of the

00:07:30.680 Encyclopedia Britannica. This is a description of Hanuman. It says, Hanuman in Hindu mythology is the

00:07:36.280 monkey commander of the monkey army. His exploits are narrated in the great Hindu Sanskrit poem,

00:07:42.380 Rama's Journey. So, he didn't just make it up. He has a source. If you don't like his language,

00:07:46.940 take it up with the Encyclopedia Britannica. But also in Canada, you're allowed to be disrespectful.

00:07:52.180 You're even allowed to be disrespectful towards others' religions. Religious freedom includes the

00:07:56.820 right to criticize and to mock religion. Just ask the creators of Sweet Jesus Ice Cream, 0.85

00:08:02.260 an ice cream brand in Canada. Or the artist who created the controversial Piss Christ,

00:08:07.260 which was a small statue of Jesus Christ inside a vial of the artist's own pee. Or, hey, even ask

00:08:13.820 our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who alongside his Marxist brother, Sasha Trudeau, wore these 0.64

00:08:18.940 incredibly ugly and incredibly disrespectful Christmas sweaters. You can see the sweaters depict

00:08:24.320 Christ and his disciples during the Last Supper, but their heads have been replaced by silly little

00:08:29.220 emojis and Lego characters. So, in Canada, you are allowed to mock religion, no matter how offensive, 0.96

00:08:34.760 no matter how rude it may be to some. It certainly isn't against the law, and it certainly isn't racist

00:08:38.860 to do so. Now, as far as the statue is concerned, look, I'm all for religious freedom. I think it's

00:08:43.520 wonderful that Canada allows religious freedom, allows for people to pray in any way they want.

00:08:47.840 Truly, our fundamental freedoms are one of our country's greatest virtues. Secondly, Hindus are model

00:08:53.440 immigrants. They're some of the best. I respect them, and I have no problem with the practicing

00:08:56.840 the religion here in Canada. Once again, I truly think it is great. But, on a visceral level,

00:09:02.400 I understand why many Canadians are unhappy with this statue and this development. It is against

00:09:07.740 the backdrop of our own culture being mocked and destroyed, our own history being erased,

00:09:12.480 and our statues being toppled. Now, like I said, this was a big issue online. A lot of Canadians had

00:09:17.220 the same sort of visceral reaction to seeing this large statue being erected in a suburb of Toronto.

00:09:22.900 Some libertarians jumped in on the liberal side of the argument, and they jumped in with the whole

00:09:28.460 private property argument, as if that's the standard in Canada, that on your own private

00:09:32.800 property, you can do whatever you want. Believe me, that is simply not the case. That's not the

00:09:37.080 standard in Canada. I'll give you a personal example. My family and I are looking to buy an

00:09:41.520 acreage in suburban Toronto, just outside the city, and we looked at a property. We found a property

00:09:47.520 that we really liked, and when we were going to put together an offer to buy it, we found out that

00:09:51.880 it was in something called the Oak Ridge's Moraine, which is a protected area where, I kid you not,

00:09:57.800 the government will not allow you to tear down a single tree. They won't allow you to so much as

00:10:02.860 build a shed on your property, let alone do any kind of renovation or rebuild or extension on the

00:10:08.940 existing home. Even if you own 100 acres, it doesn't matter. The government will tell you that

00:10:13.580 you're not allowed to build on your own private property. I can show you emails from my realtor

00:10:17.920 and from my real estate lawyer who specializes in this area of law, and they both told me,

00:10:23.020 unfortunately, that you do not have the right to build whatever you want, even on private property

00:10:27.180 in Canada. We know there are bylaws and restrictions on buildings all over Canada,

00:10:32.380 so it really is not just a matter of do whatever you want on private property. Here's a couple of

00:10:36.900 libertarians online making this argument. Anthony Koch saying,

00:10:39.620 privately funded, situated on private property, nothing wrong with this. And the Plague reporter

00:10:45.500 is a guy I actually have a great deal of respect for. He said, agree, bro, we ain't paying for it.

00:10:50.780 Who gives an F? Well, libertarians, let me tell you why some Canadians do give an F. There is a deeper

00:10:56.900 moral and psychological issue here that some are trying to gloss over. Canada is a country at present

00:11:03.420 that tears down its own statues from Sir John A to Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth,

00:11:07.360 Egerton Ryerson, and Henry Dundas. Canada is a country where 83 churches were desecrated or burnt

00:11:13.480 to the ground in the summer of 2021, and our elites barely noticed it, barely batted an eye.

00:11:18.180 Our government tells us that Christmas is contemptible, and that saying Merry Christmas

00:11:21.760 is a form of religious intolerance and bigotry. We saw Santa Claus inside a mall just north of Toronto

00:11:28.140 being protested by Hamas supporters, and we saw Hamas supporters in downtown Toronto telling Christmas

00:11:33.940 shoppers to go F themselves and uttering violent threats. Our government recently rejected the idea

00:11:39.420 of December being named Christian Heritage Month. After all, Canada was founded by religious Christians

00:11:44.240 in pursuit of religious liberty and based fundamentally on Christian values and ideals.

00:11:49.400 Shouldn't we maybe teach the next generation about those values and how they help create our country?

00:11:54.800 Well, no way bigot. Talking about Christianity is wrong. That's what we're told.

00:11:58.560 Meanwhile, Canada happily celebrates the following holidays and months. This is coming from the 0.94

00:12:03.540 Government of Canada's website from the Department of Heritage, Important and Commemorative Days.

00:12:08.500 So January is Tamil Heritage Month. January also includes the World Day for African and Afro-descendant 0.62

00:12:14.740 cultures and the National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia. February is Black History 0.98

00:12:20.880 Month. March is Irish History Month and includes the Day to Combat Islamophobia, International Day for the

00:12:27.220 Elimination of Racial Discrimination and International Transgender Day of Visibility. April is Sikh Heritage 0.94

00:12:34.060 Month as well as Genocide Prevention Month and includes the International Day of Pink. May is Asian Heritage 1.00

00:12:40.820 Month and Canadian Jewish Heritage Month. June is National Indigenous Heritage Month, Italian Heritage Month,

00:12:47.580 Filipino Heritage Month, Portuguese Heritage Month, and it's the launch of Pride season. Pride is no longer

00:12:53.480 just a month. It's an entire season. June also includes National Indigenous Peoples Day and Canadian

00:12:59.420 Multiculturalism Day. July we get one day for Canada Day. Way to go. August is Emancipation Day and Public 0.88

00:13:06.740 Service Pride Week. September includes Mennonite Heritage Week, Gender Equality Week, and of course the

00:13:12.800 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. October is German Heritage Month, Canadian Islamic Heritage Month,

00:13:18.640 Latin American Heritage Month, and Women's History Month. November is Hindu Heritage Month and it 0.99

00:13:24.520 includes National Transgender Day of Remembrance. Canada History Week we get one week in the middle

00:13:29.880 of November there and it's wrapped up by 16 days of activism against gender violence. December, well

00:13:37.020 heaven forbid that December become Christian Heritage Month. We literally celebrate everyone else and

00:13:43.160 everything else, but heaven forbid we create something to celebrate our own history. So no, it's not out of

00:13:49.060 ignorance or bigotry or racism that people would oppose a 55-foot Hindu statue in suburban Toronto. It's because

00:13:54.660 we're sick and tired of everyone else's culture being prioritized, being honored, being revered, and being

00:13:59.120 celebrated, while our own culture, Canada's core and dominant culture, the culture that founded this great country and

00:14:04.780 allowed everyone else to come in and enjoy, well that culture is constantly and repeatedly demonized, degraded, and

00:14:10.780 destroyed. Canadian pluralism only works when newcomers are welcome and encouraged to integrate, to respect

00:14:16.720 Canada, to adopt our values, and recognize that there is a dominant culture. Subcultures are fine and good, but

00:14:22.320 they're just that, subcultures. Under Trudeau and the failed cult of multiculturalism, newcomers are never told

00:14:27.740 that. Instead, they're told that it is their job to dominate us. They're here to culture us, to show us their ways, to

00:14:32.820 replace our traditions and institutions with their own. They're told that they have superior education, so they'll 1.00

00:14:37.820 dominate our schools and our job markets. Different rules apply to them. They're not held to the same

00:14:42.380 standard as other Canadians. In fact, they're prioritized for scholarships, for opportunities, and

00:14:46.980 for jobs. Their statues are approved while ours are torn down. Well, I have news for the multiculturalists 1.00

00:14:52.880 and the elites who are trying to socially engineer Canada. We Canadians have finally had enough. We don't like

00:14:58.640 this ideology. Neither do many new Canadians, the ones who are grateful to be here, who appreciate Canada for

00:15:04.320 what it is, or at least what it was until fairly recently. The reason there's been intense backlash

00:15:09.120 online over these two issues, the renaming of Dundas Square and the giant Hindu statue in Brampton,

00:15:14.700 is because Canadians are finally waking up to the agenda of the woke left. We don't like it, and we're

00:15:19.800 finally ready to fight back. I'm Candice Malcolm, and this is The Candice Malcolm Show.

00:15:34.320 Here we go.
