00:00:32.000 He is phenomenal.
00:00:33.000 He's a Salem radio host alongside me and Dennis Prager and so many others.

00:00:49.000 Larry Elder is here.
00:00:50.000 Buckle up, everybody.
00:00:51.000 Here we go.
00:00:53.000 Charlie, what you've done is incredible here.
00:00:55.000 Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campuses.
00:00:57.000 I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk.
00:01:00.000 Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.
00:01:03.000 I want to thank Charlie.
00:01:04.000 He's an incredible guy.
00:01:05.000 His spirit, his love of this country.
00:01:07.000 He's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA.
00:01:14.000 We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.
00:01:23.000 That's why we are here.
00:01:26.000 Hey, everybody.
00:01:27.000 On this flash episode of the Charlie Kirk Show, I am thrilled to have with us today someone that could do something that a year ago, two years ago would have been, quite honestly, nearly impossible.
00:01:39.000 With us today is Larry Elder.
00:01:41.000 They call him the sage from South Central LA.
00:01:43.000 I think I got that right.
00:01:45.000 Who hosts a show, Salem Radio Network, 6 to 9 p.m.
00:01:48.000 I love the show.
00:01:49.000 Super articulate.
00:01:50.000 But most importantly, he is now running to get rid of Gavin Newsom, which I am thrilled about.
00:01:55.000 Larry, welcome back to the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:01:59.000 Charlie, thank you so much for having me.
00:02:00.000 It is an honor.
00:02:02.000 So, Larry, I must ask, what on earth compelled you to want to go run in the political environment?
00:02:08.000 You have a wonderful talk show.
00:02:10.000 You get to travel the country, say what's ever on your mind, and now you want to go run for governor.
00:02:16.000 Tell us why you're running and tell us at this moment why you think you have a chance to become governor of California.
00:02:24.000 Well, Charlie, it was an evolution.
00:02:26.000 Dennis Prager first approached me and asked me to run, and my response was, hell no.
00:02:31.000 I thought the state was ungovernable.
00:02:33.000 We have a super majority of Democrats in the Senate, a super majority of Democrats in the Assembly, and of course, we have a left-wing governor.
00:02:40.000 Crime is going up.
00:02:41.000 Homelessness is going up.
00:02:42.000 The cost of living is going crazy.
00:02:44.000 Meanwhile, the quality of urban education is declining.
00:02:47.000 And I just kind of just threw my hands up.
00:02:50.000 But more and more people I respected, Charlie, began talking to me about this, including Pastor Jack Hibbs of the Calgary Church.
00:02:57.000 And I began to feel that I almost had a moral obligation to try and do something about it.
00:03:01.000 I'm born and raised here.
00:03:02.000 My father moved here back in 1945, right after the war, and working two full-time jobs as a janitor was able to afford a house that right now is worth $600,000.
00:03:12.000 That's wonderful for our family because it's still in the family.
00:03:16.000 But if you try to do what my dad did, if you worked three jobs, you couldn't do it because the cost of living is insane because of the anti-growth attitude that has been the case in California for the last 30 or 40 years.
00:03:26.000 As to why I think I can win, I'm a well-known public figure out here in California.
00:03:33.000 I've been on radio for 30 years.
00:03:35.000 I'm on in affiliate in Sacramento.
00:03:37.000 I'm on an affiliate in the Bay Area.
00:03:38.000 I'm on in Riverside.
00:03:39.000 I'm on in the central part of the state, LA, of course, Riverside, San Diego.
00:03:43.000 So people know me.
00:03:44.000 I've been talking about these issues for some 30 years.
00:03:47.000 And I think I can explain things in a way that Joe and Joe Sixpat can understand.
00:03:52.000 A lot of times, Charlie, people leave California and they go to places like Texas and Florida and they bring their politics with them because they don't understand the connection between a high crime and left-wing policies out of Sacramento.
00:04:03.000 They don't get the connection between the high price of housing and left-wing policies.
00:04:08.000 I can make them understand the reason the state is in the situation that it's in, the reason we have riots and homelessness is because of asinine policies that have been pushed by Sacramento for decades and have been pushed by this reckless, arrogant, smug governor for the last two years.
00:04:24.000 This is the guy who imposed the most strict coronavirus mandates of all 50 states while ignoring them.
00:04:30.000 There he is sitting up there in the French laundry.
00:04:32.000 And I found out, Charlie, I never even heard of the French laundry until he was there.
00:04:35.000 It's one of the most expensive restaurants, not just in California, one of the most expensive, exclusive restaurants in the country.
00:04:42.000 And there he is dining with the very lobbyists and contributors that made the mandate that they were violating.
00:04:49.000 They weren't engaging in social distancing.
00:04:51.000 They weren't wearing masks while telling you to do that, which meant that they weren't really afraid, but they wanted you to be afraid.
00:04:57.000 This is absolutely outrageous.
00:04:58.000 And the man had his own kids continue in-school private education, and he exempted his own business, the winery, from the very mandate that everybody else had to suffer under.
00:05:07.000 Most states, two-thirds of the jobs have come back.
00:05:10.000 In California, only half the jobs have come back.
00:05:12.000 And it may be even worse because the bankruptcy courts have yet to open up and operate full-time.
00:05:17.000 So it's unclear how much damage he's done.
00:05:19.000 All I know is he's done a great deal of damage.
00:05:21.000 Charlie, in preparing for this campaign, I talked to a lot of people.
00:05:24.000 Just yesterday, we shot a bunch of commercials, and the makeup lady was telling me about her son.
00:05:29.000 She's a single mom, has a 17-year-old kid, one of the top wrestlers in the state of California, had been wrestling six days a week.
00:05:36.000 And the wrestling coach, of course, is his father figure.
00:05:38.000 Because he's been locked out, the kid has now gotten depressed, came to his mother, had enough class and integrity to tell his mom he felt suicidal, Charlie.
00:05:46.000 He's now in therapy.
00:05:47.000 I talked to another woman whose brother was a football coach up in Oakland.
00:05:51.000 He's a white guy.
00:05:52.000 Most of the players are black.
00:05:53.000 They don't have fathers.
00:05:54.000 He's their father figure, and they had structure.
00:05:56.000 He begged and pleaded with the school board not to shut down training.
00:06:00.000 They could at least do that outdoors without having to wear some of a mask, but they said no.
00:06:04.000 And two of the kids got into trouble with the law.
00:06:06.000 One of them committed a crime that's going to put him behind bars for years.
00:06:10.000 This would not have happened had Gavin Newsom listened to the science that said in-school learning would be okay with certain precautions.
00:06:17.000 He ignored it because he was doing the bidding of the teachers union that wanted schools locked down while the teachers still kept earning their full salaries.
00:06:24.000 The man has got to go, Charlie.
00:06:26.000 And my website is electelder.com, electelder.com.
00:06:30.000 We can't do it without an army of people contributing $500, $100, $200 because I have campaign finance limits.
00:06:38.000 He doesn't.
00:06:39.000 He can raise however amount of money he wants and spend however amount of money he wants.
00:06:43.000 The union just put in $5 million on his campaign.
00:06:46.000 And by the way, Charlie, he's characterizing the campaign as an effort to oust him by Trump supporting white nationalists.
00:06:53.000 Charlie, you've known me a long time.
00:06:55.000 Am I a white nationalist?
00:06:56.000 I may be a lot of things, but I ain't a white nationalist.
00:06:59.000 That's going to be an interesting one, Larry.
00:07:01.000 I just want to say for my audience, as close as whatever an endorsement is, we're behind you, Larry.
00:07:06.000 And I just want to say that because this whole thing has got to get disrupted.
00:07:12.000 As you know, my friend Mike Lindell has a passion to help everyone get the best sleep of your life.
00:07:17.000 He didn't stop by simply creating the best pillow.
00:07:19.000 Mike created the new Giza Dream bedsheets.
00:07:22.000 They look and feel great, which means an even better night's sleep for me, which is what's crucial for my busy schedule.
00:07:27.000 Mike found the world's best cotton called Giza.
00:07:30.000 It's ultra-soft and breathable, but extremely durable.
00:07:33.000 Mike's Giza sheets come with a 60-day money-back guarantee and a 10-year warranty.
00:07:38.000 The first night you sleep on Giza sheets, you will never want to sleep on anything else.
00:07:43.000 Giza Dream sheets come in a variety of sizes and colors.
00:07:45.000 Mike is making a special offer for my listeners.
00:07:48.000 You receive two for the one low price plus free shipping.
00:07:51.000 Go to mypillow.com and click on the Radio Listener Square and use promo code Kirk.
00:07:56.000 There you'll find not only this amazing offer, but also deep discounts on all my pillow products, including the MyPillow Mattress Topper, MyPillow Towel Sets, and so much more.
00:08:05.000 Call 1-800-875-0425.
00:08:08.000 Use the promo code Kirk.
00:08:09.000 Go to mypillow.com and make sure you use the promo code KIRK.
00:08:14.000 So I just want to say I love your message and what you're doing.
00:08:18.000 And I just, Jack Hibbs and the whole coalition, we're behind you.
00:08:21.000 Can you, Larry, then help me understand what is the timeline?
00:08:25.000 And then also what is happening with the vote.
00:08:28.000 So there's a remove Gavin vote, right?
00:08:30.000 Like recall yes or no.
00:08:32.000 Right.
00:08:32.000 And then who do you want?
00:08:33.000 Can you walk through that?
00:08:34.000 Because it's kind of funky.
00:08:36.000 Well, it's really kind of simple.
00:08:37.000 There aren't any other initiatives on the ballots.
00:08:39.000 They're pretty clean.
00:08:40.000 You first vote to remove Gavin Newsome.
00:08:43.000 If 50% plus one vote to remove Gavin Newsom, the person that got the highest vote to replace him will be the next governor.
00:08:49.000 And that will be certified within 30 days of the election, which is on September 14th.
00:08:53.000 But they're already sending out, they'll be sending out absentee ballots in about a month or so.
00:08:57.000 So this is a real compressed race, all together around 60 days.
00:09:01.000 And the reason they pushed the date up, Charlie, is because Gavin Newsom is afraid of being recalled.
00:09:06.000 And his numbers were inching up a little bit.
00:09:07.000 So he was able to force the election sooner rather than later in hopes that his momentum will carry him to remain in office.
00:09:15.000 But I don't think so.
00:09:16.000 A lot of people are furious.
00:09:17.000 2.2 million people signed the petition, which means a whole bunch of independents and Democrats who voted for him wanted him out.
00:09:24.000 And so this is a broad coalition of Californians who are fed up with the crime, fed up with the homelessness, fed up with the deterioration of the quality of schools, fed up with the mandate that he ignored himself.
00:09:35.000 And they want this guy out.
00:09:37.000 And I think I can do something about the homelessness problem.
00:09:39.000 I can do something about the crime problem.
00:09:41.000 And one of the things I will do is not accuse the police of engaging in systemic racism, which is causing cops to pull back.
00:09:48.000 Bad guys know it.
00:09:49.000 Crime is going up.
00:09:50.000 When you reduce the chances of a crook being caught, being convicted, and being incarcerated, guess what?
00:09:55.000 Crime goes up.
00:09:56.000 This isn't rocket science.
00:09:57.000 This is just common sense, something sadly lacking in Sacramento.
00:10:00.000 We're going to do something about this, Charlie.
00:10:02.000 And I'm urging all of your listeners to go to electelder.com.
00:10:05.000 That's electelder.com.
00:10:08.000 It is electelder.com.
00:10:09.000 I'm looking at it right now.
00:10:10.000 It's very simple.
00:10:11.000 It's a clean website.
00:10:13.000 And so, Larry, what are you going to do when they call you a racist?
00:10:18.000 Well, they've already done so.
00:10:20.000 I know you've been calling it.
00:10:21.000 I've got to hear you laugh, but it's what they're going to do.
00:10:23.000 Tell us, as a black man who grew up in California, is self-made, and has a wonderful story about your father, by the way.
00:10:30.000 We have a whole podcast on that.
00:10:31.000 It's one of the most moving podcasts we've ever done.
00:10:34.000 It's phenomenal.
00:10:35.000 Charlie, about my dad.
00:10:37.000 My dad, as I mentioned, was able to work two full-time jobs as a janitor, stay-at-home wife, my mother, three boys, and was able to buy a house in South Central, which at the time was upscale.
00:10:48.000 That house is worth now $600,000.
00:10:51.000 If you worked four full-time jobs, you would not be able to do what my dad did with his eighth-grade education.
00:10:56.000 That California dream is fading, which is why so many young people like you, Charlie, are leaving this state and going to places like Tennessee and Florida and Texas.
00:11:04.000 And we've got to reverse that.
00:11:05.000 For the first time in this nation, in the state's history, there's been a net migration of Californians out of the state.
00:11:11.000 And we're going to turn that around.
00:11:13.000 I love that.
00:11:14.000 And so let's focus on, so I just want to understand the mechanics of this, Larry.
00:11:18.000 And I truly am asking for my own sake, so I'm sure some listeners have the same questions.
00:11:22.000 So if Newsom loses the recall question, then it goes to the next.
00:11:28.000 And you need a plurality, not a majority.
00:11:31.000 Is that right?
00:11:32.000 No, all you need is more votes than the next person.
00:11:36.000 Again, a plurality, a higher plurality than the next person.
00:11:40.000 I don't know what percentage it'll take to actually win.
00:11:42.000 It depends on how many people are there and how the vote is all shaved up.
00:11:45.000 But the bottom line is once Gavin Newsom is removed, and that takes 50% plus one vote, the highest number of vote-getters to replace him will be the next governor.
00:11:54.000 And that will be certified within 30 days or so of September 14th.
00:11:58.000 I hope I'm that person.
00:11:59.000 But if I'm not that person, at least this guy will be gone.
00:12:02.000 Yeah, and look, the Republicans that need, they need to get out of this race.
00:12:05.000 Okay.
00:12:06.000 Larry's the guy.
00:12:07.000 It's obvious.
00:12:08.000 He can speak the language.
00:12:10.000 He has the charisma.
00:12:11.000 He's an outsider.
00:12:12.000 That's a different conversation for a different time.
00:12:14.000 So how many people are running?
00:12:16.000 How big is the field?
00:12:17.000 And so you said that the end of voting is the, is this kind of like this new California like voting quarter thing where you kind of like start voting in August and just kind of lasts for a month and a half?
00:12:26.000 Is that kind of how it works?
00:12:28.000 That's how it works.
00:12:30.000 They will send out the absentee ballots in about a month.
00:12:33.000 Wow.
00:12:33.000 You fill those out, and then the election actually takes place on September 14th.
00:12:38.000 But again, it's a two-step deal.
00:12:39.000 The first step is, do you want this man out?
00:12:42.000 And if 50% plus one wants him out, then you go to who's going to replace him and whoever got the highest number of votes will replace this guy.
00:12:49.000 And so, but then the way I'm looking at it though, Larry, is that this is going to be a very low turnout election on their side and a very high turnout election on our side, right?
00:12:59.000 That's right.
00:13:00.000 That's right.
00:13:00.000 The enthusiasm is on our side.
00:13:02.000 There's virtually no enthusiasm on their side.
00:13:04.000 And the voter intensity is going to carry this thing.
00:13:07.000 And as to how many candidates there are, I really don't know.
00:13:10.000 My suspicion is anywhere from 50 to 100.
00:13:13.000 I think the last time when the last governor was recalled, there were 250 people.
00:13:18.000 And people walked in, many of them thinking that Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be their guy.
00:13:22.000 So you have to walk in with an idea of who you want, not just to get rid of Gavin Newsom, which is step one, but who do you want to replace him?
00:13:30.000 And there are some other people in the race who are policy wonks.
00:13:33.000 They don't have my name recognition.
00:13:35.000 They're not even native Californians.
00:13:36.000 One guy lost a whole bunch of races, including lost by 20 points against Gavin Newsom the last time.
00:13:41.000 He's in the race.
00:13:42.000 And you're right, Charlie.
00:13:43.000 Some of these guys need to clear out.
00:13:45.000 But the bottom line is this guy has got to go.
00:13:47.000 And people have to be reminded of how insulting these mandates were, violating science.
00:13:53.000 The science said that you could have in-school education.
00:13:57.000 The head of the LA Teachers Union, which is the largest affiliate of the California Teachers Union, said the move to have in-school learning during the last year was led by white supremacists.
00:14:08.000 Again, a lot of black coaches were out there protesting.
00:14:10.000 A lot of Hispanic coaches were out protesting.
00:14:12.000 Teachers were out protesting.
00:14:14.000 But of course, all Gavin Newsome does is scream Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump.
00:14:18.000 And he thinks that voters are going to be recoiled and therefore are going to assume that somehow Donald Trump, I guess, is going to come floating into California and become the next governor.
00:14:26.000 I'm not quite sure what they think is going to happen, but that's all Gavin Newsom does is yell Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump.
00:14:32.000 Yeah, and I think it's really smart, Larry, for you to focus on the virus issue and the lockdown issue.
00:14:39.000 You don't need to run on like reforming the California pension system.
00:14:42.000 That stuff, you know, that's a distraction.
00:14:43.000 You figure that out once you're there.
00:14:45.000 You focus on the referendum and the energy around that.
00:14:48.000 And if you ever get bored, Larry, let me tell you, I'm right now looking at the French laundry website.
00:14:53.000 Maybe Gavin Newsom had oysters and pearls or the chilled brand of wine tomato soup, or maybe he had the Applewood smoked wolf ranch white quail with a side of black truffle and ricotta anglinotti.
00:15:06.000 Don't even know what that is.
00:15:07.000 Or maybe the Snake River Farms Colotte de Buf or the charcoal grilled Japanese wagu.
00:15:12.000 I know one thing I just said.
00:15:14.000 And if the governor has a menu that exotic while he shut down the entire state, that means he's got to go.
00:15:19.000 I think you're right on for focusing on that, Larry.
00:15:21.000 Well, they weren't serving burritos, Charlie.
00:15:23.000 And I heard that the bill was not just $12,000.
00:15:26.000 I heard it was closer to $30,000 that taxpayers picked up, again, with the very lobbyists and the people that were making the mandate rules that they were violating.
00:15:35.000 And don't forget about this big scandal where he, a bunch of lobbyists like days earlier, formed some sort of corporation to buy masks made in China, $500,000, $500 million deal, excuse me, and the masks were substandard.
00:15:50.000 And we were able to call back about half of that amount of money.
00:15:53.000 But this was a business that was set up fly-by-night by lobbyists connected to Gavin Newsome in order to import face masks that were manufactured in China that were substandard, overpaid for these very face masks.
00:16:08.000 The mayor of L.A. was able to get face masks for pennies on the dollar compared to what Gavin Newsom was paying.
00:16:13.000 This guy is incompetent or a fool.
00:16:15.000 It doesn't matter.
00:16:16.000 He's got to go.
00:16:17.000 I totally agree.
00:16:18.000 So, Larry, anything else you want to mention around your run?
00:16:22.000 I know homelessness is also a major issue.
00:16:24.000 I just want to tell people what might have seemed impossible months ago.
00:16:28.000 Here's what Larry has going for him.
00:16:30.000 Number one, Gavin is not listed as a Democrat.
00:16:33.000 And so all of a sudden, all party affiliation is not going to be there because the Democrats really mess that up.
00:16:38.000 Number two, not a lot of people are going to show up in record numbers that defend an incumbent governor.
00:16:43.000 That just doesn't happen.
00:16:44.000 The energy enthusiasm, just like the Trump movement, is going to be at least a 10-point bump on the side of recall.
00:16:50.000 So if it's like 50-50 where it is right now, you very well might have the numbers against him.
00:16:58.000 But then as soon as it gets to that other thing, Larry already has name ID way more than the other candidates.
00:17:03.000 So this is one that can happen, everybody.
00:17:05.000 This is one that's right in the kind of doable kind of area.
00:17:11.000 Now, if President Trump comes and does a rally for you, Larry, that could put you over the top.
00:17:17.000 It also could do a lot of negatives.
00:17:18.000 That's a different topic for a different time.
00:17:21.000 And so anything else you want to kind of talk about?
00:17:24.000 Maybe kind of.
00:17:27.000 One other thing, Charlie, I just want people outside California to understand why this is important for them, too.
00:17:32.000 We have a left-wing president, or at least a president who's telling him what to do, left-wing.
00:17:38.000 We've got a left-wing Congress, a left-wing Senate in Washington, D.C.
00:17:42.000 And out here in California, as you know, Charlie, we have supermajorities in the Senate and in the Assembly, Democrats.
00:17:48.000 And of course, it's left-wing governor.
00:17:50.000 And it's rising crime, rising homelessness, rising cost of living, and declining quality of schools.
00:17:57.000 This is coming to a theater near you if you don't do something about it.
00:18:01.000 So how California goes, the rest of the country goes.
00:18:03.000 And so it's a fight not just for California, but it's a fight for the rest of the country because the rest of the country could very well suffer the same fate if we don't turn California around.
00:18:12.000 Well, look, and I just want to say go to as many churches as you can.
00:18:15.000 Go to Pastor Juergen's church in San Diego.
00:18:17.000 Go to Jack Hibbs' church, obviously, in Chino, Rob McCoy out in Thousand Oaks.
00:18:21.000 I'm definitely going to be able to help you with that.
00:18:23.000 People, help if you can.
00:18:24.000 Larry's a good man.
00:18:25.000 I've known him for years.
00:18:26.000 We're colleagues at the Salem Radio Network.
00:18:28.000 He's taking a little bit of a hiatus.
00:18:31.000 I guess that's fair to say, right, Larry?
00:18:34.000 And a financial hit.
00:18:35.000 And I'm not a rich guy, Charlie.
00:18:36.000 I got a little bit of money.
00:18:37.000 It's all tied up in my house.
00:18:39.000 So I cannot do this without the money from other people.
00:18:42.000 We have campaign finance limits.
00:18:44.000 This guy can raise and spend as much money as he wants.
00:18:47.000 So it's going to take an army to defeat this guy.
00:18:49.000 It's going to be an uphill fight, but I think I'm the guy for it.
00:18:52.000 I'm ready to do it.
00:18:54.000 I've become convinced that if not you, who, if not now, win.
00:18:58.000 I'm going to do this, Charlie, and I'm going to win this race.
00:19:00.000 Well, Larry, Godspeed.
00:19:02.000 You have a friend here on the Charlie Kirk show.
00:19:04.000 We're going to be following this race.
00:19:06.000 We do have the midnight shift on KRLA.
00:19:09.000 Not as good as your time, Larry.
00:19:10.000 We're on at 10 to 12 every day, but we're going to keep on mentioning your race and make sure we could try to get Gavin Newsom's numbers down because like you said, if that first question says yes, I think you'll be able to get that plurality.
00:19:24.000 I mean, if you get to know, and then that next question, anything can happen.
00:19:28.000 And Newsom overplayed his hands.
00:19:29.000 ElectElder.com.
00:19:31.000 Thanks so much, Larry.
00:19:32.000 Thanks, Charlie.
