00:02:08.000 Hey, everybody.
00:02:09.000 Welcome to this very special episode of the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:02:12.000 I am joined today by Kim Klesick.
00:02:15.000 You probably saw her incredible political advertisement where she went through the streets of Baltimore with a sense of urgency.
00:02:23.000 She walked the streets of Baltimore and told the truth about what's happening in our inner cities.
00:02:28.000 Kim is running for Congress in Maryland.
00:02:30.000 She is worthy of your support.
00:02:31.000 Kim, welcome to the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:02:33.000 Thank you for having me.
00:02:35.000 I appreciate it.
00:02:36.000 So tell us why you're running.
00:02:38.000 Tell us about the advertisement that just went totally viral.
00:02:42.000 I think it has 20, 30, 40 million views, and tell us about yourself.
00:02:46.000 All right.
00:02:47.000 So why I'm running, you probably could see that within the campaign ad, but I'm running to hope we bring some career opportunities to the Baltimore area.
00:02:55.000 You know, Maryland's District 7 encompasses Baltimore County, Howard County, and Baltimore City.
00:03:00.000 But the issues in Baltimore City, unfortunately, you know, it's a problem for the counties as well because we're using all of our resources for the issues in the city, but the counties are being neglected.
00:03:12.000 So there's a lot to go to do.
00:03:14.000 You know, we've got a poor education system.
00:03:17.000 I'm all for school choice.
00:03:18.000 I'm all for bringing careers to the port.
00:03:20.000 As we saw during the coronavirus lockdown, we had to rely on other countries for PPE.
00:03:25.000 Why not bring that billion-dollar medical equipment and street right back to the bar and have some real career opportunities, not just jobs?
00:03:34.000 So in your video, you said, and I quote, I want to make sure that I get this right.
00:03:40.000 You say, black lives do not matter to Democrats.
00:03:44.000 Is that correct?
00:03:45.000 That's exactly what I said.
00:03:47.000 Tell us why.
00:03:49.000 Yeah, I mean, it's obvious here.
00:03:52.000 You know, we've got problems in the inner cities.
00:03:54.000 There's a pattern when it comes to Democrat leadership.
00:03:57.000 Every year they leverage the urban struggle to request federal funds, and then those federal funds go missing.
00:04:04.000 So I don't know if you recall, but back in 2015, we had the riots in Baltimore City after the death of Freddie Gray.
00:04:11.000 Millions of dollars was set to the Penn North Corridor.
00:04:14.000 That video that I took, the campaign ad, was taken in the Penn North Corridor.
00:04:18.000 So you have to wonder, where has all this money gone?
00:04:21.000 You know, this is a city that has been under one party rule for over 50 years.
00:04:26.000 That in itself is a problem.
00:04:28.000 So, you know, we've got a lot of work to do.
00:04:31.000 I'm not saying my opponent's a bad guy, but you know, he's been in office before.
00:04:36.000 Obviously, this is a result of his leadership, and we need somebody else completely different.
00:04:41.000 It takes a lot of courage for a black woman to say what you are saying.
00:04:46.000 I can only imagine the backlash you have received.
00:04:48.000 And I want to get into that in a second.
00:04:50.000 But can you talk more about how the ruling class Democrats have really betrayed the inner cities?
00:04:56.000 Can you get more specific about what you have seen in Baltimore?
00:05:01.000 And I have so many questions.
00:05:02.000 We can just kind of start there.
00:05:03.000 I'm also just curious: do you see people on the ground starting to get a little uneasy about Democrat leadership?
00:05:08.000 I'm super curious about that.
00:05:09.000 So I'll go from back to front.
00:05:12.000 On the ground right now, we have a lot of people really talking about this.
00:05:15.000 You know, we have ears on both sides of the aisle.
00:05:18.000 So some of our friends are saying, you know what?
00:05:20.000 People are actually listening.
00:05:21.000 The Democrats are attacking just the bad parts of Baltimore.
00:05:24.000 But unfortunately, when you have bad and good parts, but you're running to represent an entire district, you have to consider all parts.
00:05:31.000 You know, you've got to represent everybody.
00:05:33.000 And so not everybody was happy about it, but people said it is accurate.
00:05:36.000 You know, there wasn't a single lie in the video.
00:05:39.000 I think a local news media channel or network actually fact-checked the video and came back and had to say there were no lying.
00:05:47.000 And that probably hurt them because they don't love me.
00:05:50.000 But, you know, there weren't any is accurate.
00:05:53.000 And to be specific, we could go with, we could start with the school system, right?
00:05:58.000 We've had millions and millions of dollars go into the Baltimore City public school system.
00:06:03.000 You know, we went viral a few years back because there wasn't any heat in the schools.
00:06:08.000 Now you've got all this money.
00:06:09.000 There's no heat.
00:06:10.000 There's no air conditioning.
00:06:12.000 In many parts of West Baltimore, the kids are dealing with lead pipes still within the schools.
00:06:16.000 It's been like that since 2007.
00:06:19.000 No one's done anything about it.
00:06:20.000 You can go to some schools, and there's actually trash bags on water fountains, and they're not allowed to drink out of them because of the lead pipes.
00:06:26.000 So it's like, where's all this money going?
00:06:29.000 Right?
00:06:29.000 Meanwhile, the school CEO, Sonia Santoliz, is getting paid $350,000 a year.
00:06:36.000 That's exactly right.
00:06:37.000 That's where it's going to the administration class while black kids can't read in Baltimore schools.
00:06:42.000 They can't.
00:06:43.000 I mean, you have the studies show that there were six Baltimore schools where they could not find a black kid in fifth grade that could read a grade level.
00:06:51.000 Not one kid.
00:06:52.000 And yet the schools keep on getting billions of dollars in federal funding, keeps on getting, and the money is going to the administration class and the ruling class.
00:07:00.000 Kim, can you tell us what you are hearing on the ground?
00:07:04.000 Do you start to see people in Baltimore and in the inner city start to wake up to the tragedy of what's happening in urban America?
00:07:14.000 Our regular black voters that work for a living, are they getting tired of just the same promises and destroyed communities from Democrats?
00:07:22.000 Yeah, I can actually give you an example.
00:07:25.000 A gentleman named Travis, I posted this on Twitter.
00:07:28.000 He sent me a text message saying, hey, I just saw your video, your campaign ad on the shade room.
00:07:33.000 And I was like, wow, the shade room, that's pretty legit, you know?
00:07:36.000 And he said, yeah, he said the comments under it, though, were kind of mixed.
00:07:40.000 He said, I thought people were going to be like, who does she think she is?
00:07:43.000 You know, strutting through West Baltimore.
00:07:45.000 He said, but a lot of people were saying, wow, it looks just like I remember it even when I was a kid.
00:07:50.000 And these are people that have moved out of the city and have gone, never came back for obvious reasons, right?
00:07:56.000 But they said, wow, it still looks the same.
00:07:59.000 And he said, your video really opened my eyes.
00:08:02.000 He said, after watching it, he went and Googled how much money had been sent to the area.
00:08:07.000 And he said, you talk about millions.
00:08:09.000 He said, I know for a fact it's billions, as you just said, Charlie.
00:08:13.000 So there's a lot of people now looking at this and saying, look, they've taken advantage of us for all of this time, so many years.
00:08:21.000 And every year, they just sit around like my opponent.
00:08:24.000 He takes their votes for granted.
00:08:25.000 He has not left his house this entire election cycle.
00:08:29.000 He just believes they're going to vote for him.
00:08:32.000 Baltimore City, they vote down ballot, and he's got it made.
00:08:36.000 So now the campaign ad has come out.
00:08:39.000 He's actually had to acknowledge me.
00:08:41.000 And his big response to that ad was, she doesn't live in the district.
00:08:48.000 Yes.
00:08:49.000 So, and you have pledged to go move in the district if you win.
00:08:53.000 By the way, it's very customary because of how ridiculous these districts have been drawn to run if you're a mile or two miles away.
00:09:00.000 So I do not, no one should hold that against you at all.
00:09:02.000 Just want to be very clear.
00:09:03.000 You grew up in these communities, you understand it.
00:09:06.000 And so that's a cheap attack.
00:09:08.000 So you're actually running to fill the late Elijah Cummings seat.
00:09:12.000 Is that right?
00:09:14.000 Yeah.
00:09:15.000 So, you know, we have Kwisi and Fume.
00:09:19.000 He won the special.
00:09:21.000 So he was sworn in nine months ago.
00:09:23.000 He hasn't accomplished anything since then.
00:09:26.000 But now he's in the general with me again.
00:09:28.000 You know, this has happened again.
00:09:31.000 But this time, unlike the special election, we're not bogged down with the coronavirus lockdown.
00:09:37.000 So we can actually go face to face, talk to people, you know, let them know what we stand for, where we're coming from.
00:09:43.000 And so it's been a lot different.
00:09:45.000 My team has been out canvassing five days a week.
00:09:48.000 My team has been out registering voters.
00:09:50.000 I mean, we are going full speed here.
00:09:54.000 And he's got to be scared because, you know, again, yeah, he hasn't sent anyone in the streets.
00:09:59.000 My team's in there out in the streets every day.
00:10:01.000 They have yet to seen anybody in his camp.
00:10:04.000 Do you think they are taking this district for granted as the urban inner city Democrats are perfectly fine with our cities being really war-torn and total disaster?
00:10:15.000 Do you think that, can you talk more about the opportunity Republicans have?
00:10:19.000 And so, Kim, I want to be honest: Republicans have done an awful job communicating in inner cities.
00:10:23.000 I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for months.
00:10:27.000 And you could just, you don't have to say anything trying to get the attention of kind of the party leadership, right?
00:10:32.000 And then you have this viral ad and then everyone's calling you, right?
00:10:35.000 Can you talk about that a little bit?
00:10:36.000 Because Republicans are at fault here too.
00:10:38.000 I mean, they're in fault in a different way, right?
00:10:40.000 It's Republican solutions that will help.
00:10:43.000 But do you feel like Republicans have just kind of written off the inner cities and said, just whatever, Democrats, do whatever you need to do?
00:10:49.000 Absolutely.
00:10:49.000 That is what we've done every election cycle.
00:10:52.000 You hit the nail on the head.
00:10:53.000 When we go out and we talk to people, I remember my first time canvassing, I asked a woman, what would it take for her to vote for a Republican?
00:11:01.000 And she said, you're the first Republican I've ever met.
00:11:05.000 So how could I vote for someone I've never met?
00:11:08.000 And I was like, you know what?
00:11:09.000 That's a great point.
00:11:10.000 That is.
00:11:11.000 Republicans have to do better at going in the inner cities.
00:11:14.000 We can't just write this off.
00:11:15.000 Even if we're not expected to win, and I've been told a thousand times there's no way I could win.
00:11:20.000 I was actually told Jesus Christ couldn't win the seat by our MDGOP chair, believe it or not.
00:11:27.000 But, but, you know, you can't just write it off completely.
00:11:32.000 You've got to go in and start chipping away at some point in time.
00:11:35.000 You know, and so right, like you said, the ad has gone viral.
00:11:38.000 And now people are calling.
00:11:40.000 Now everyone's like, oh, yeah, we'll send some resources.
00:11:43.000 Oh, you need volunteers.
00:11:45.000 You know, and it's great.
00:11:47.000 And we're happy to.
00:11:48.000 And that's fine.
00:11:49.000 We're happy about that, right?
00:11:50.000 But the lesson here is why did it take that?
00:11:53.000 Is that fair?
00:11:54.000 Yes.
00:11:55.000 Absolutely.
00:11:56.000 Why would it take that long?
00:11:57.000 You know, in Baltimore City, we actually have the most black Republicans running in the entire country.
00:12:04.000 That's, yeah, that was something that we would thought would get their attention a long time ago.
00:12:08.000 You know, we've all won our primaries.
00:12:11.000 But, you know what?
00:12:12.000 Whatever it takes, we're happy to accept it now.
00:12:15.000 So, can you talk about the president has retweeted your video a couple times.
00:12:20.000 The president has come under fire.
00:12:21.000 He's a big fan of yours, by the way.
00:12:23.000 He's come under fire tremendously for criticizing Baltimore, which is just an honest assessment.
00:12:28.000 Do you think the president stands to make serious gains in the black community, both in Baltimore and some of these other swing states like Philadelphia or Atlanta, where there are sizable black populations?
00:12:39.000 I really do think so.
00:12:41.000 You know, and that's another thing.
00:12:43.000 President Trump, his so-called attack on Baltimore City last summer was actually just him repeating a woman that I interviewed in the streets of West Baltimore.
00:12:54.000 He actually repeated her verbatim.
00:12:56.000 And I was asking some of the news outlets to just check out the video, match the tweet with the video.
00:13:02.000 They refused to do it because the narrative is President Trump is racist and he attacked Baltimore.
00:13:09.000 But he really just repeated this young woman, young black woman that lived right here in West Baltimore.
00:13:14.000 So yeah, you know, I think people are coming around.
00:13:17.000 I think people are starting to understand that, you know, maybe President Trump just isn't part of the establishment.
00:13:24.000 And that's on either side.
00:13:27.000 And that's why some of the people in office don't like them very much.
00:13:30.000 And that means that's better for us as the people.
00:13:33.000 So I think people are starting to notice that.
00:13:36.000 Totally.
00:13:37.000 Yeah, I know that we're tight on time here and I want to be respectful of that.
00:13:41.000 So just a couple more questions.
00:13:42.000 Can you talk more about the Democrats' hyper-fixation on the issue of race?
00:13:47.000 Are these top-tier issues in the inner city or is it more just about the school is awful, crime is out of control, businesses can't get access to capital?
00:13:55.000 Or are they really worried about some of these more national narratives that are kind of just given front and center focus?
00:14:03.000 Yeah, they like to, you know, focus on what's trending.
00:14:06.000 Absolutely.
00:14:07.000 But here's what's so crazy about it.
00:14:09.000 I don't know about all the inner cities, but in Baltimore City, we have nothing but black leadership and we've had it for two decades.
00:14:16.000 So who's being racist?
00:14:18.000 You know, this is more classism than anything.
00:14:21.000 And we mix it up with racism all the time.
00:14:24.000 But yeah, so if this, there's racism.
00:14:27.000 I don't know where it's coming from here.
00:14:29.000 The CEO of the schools is black.
00:14:30.000 Our state's attorney is black.
00:14:32.000 The mayors have been black.
00:14:33.000 City council, black.
00:14:35.000 I don't know.
00:14:36.000 It's just what's trendy, I guess.
00:14:38.000 Kim, you are running for Congress.
00:14:39.000 How can people learn more about you and support you?
00:14:42.000 You have a difficult race from the outside, but I think every Republican out there, I'm of the opinion that if Republicans do their job, we talk about the family, we talk about supporting our police, we talk about churches, we talk about pro-life.
00:14:55.000 And I'm guessing you're pro-life, and that's a big issue that's winning in the black community.
00:14:59.000 I could be wrong, but that's what people are saying.
00:15:01.000 And I think that we can win 50, 60% of the black vote.
00:15:04.000 I really do.
00:15:05.000 Eventually, maybe not overnight.
00:15:06.000 How can people support you?
00:15:08.000 Thank you.
00:15:08.000 Yeah, kimk4congress.com.
00:15:11.000 It's a website.
00:15:13.000 If you want to volunteer, you know, you can have more booths on the ground.
00:15:16.000 If you live in a different state, we would love to have you make some phone calls to people that live in the district to remind them to get out to vote on November 3rd.
00:15:24.000 And of course, monetary donations, we would love those too.
00:15:27.000 But KimK4Congress.com, you can follow me on Facebook at Kimberly Klasick, Instagram, Kimberly Klasick, YouTube, Kimberly Klasick.
00:15:36.000 And of course, Twitter, my favorite, favorite social media platform.
00:15:40.000 It's Kim K Baltimore.
00:15:42.000 I think people are going to be seeing a lot more of you, especially this coming week.
