00:01:46.000 It's very thorough in the wonderful City Journal.

00:01:50.000 Heather, welcome back to the Charlie Kirk Show.

00:01:52.000 It's great to be with you, Charlie.

00:01:54.000 Thank you for having me on.

00:01:55.000 So, Heather, you write in this piece: the guardians of the medical profession are discarding merit in order to alter the demographics of their field.

00:02:05.000 Now, my wife just had a baby last week, and we wanted the best experts there, and thankfully we had them.

00:02:14.000 Are you trying to tell me that the direction medicine is going is that it's not going to be on merit, it's not going to be on competency, but instead on skin color?

00:02:22.000 Is that correct?

00:02:23.000 That's correct, Charlie.

00:02:25.000 And you may soon be getting an obstetrician that knows more about white privilege and heteronormativity than he or she does about how to deliver a C-section or a breach birth.

00:02:38.000 We have the very leaders of the medical profession, the Guardians, the AMA, the American Association of Medical Colleges, who have declared a patent untruth that medicine is shot through with systemic racism.

00:02:54.000 And the solution to that is massive racial preferences, both in admissions to medical schools and then into appointments to medical positions, into who runs research labs, what kind of research gets done.

00:03:08.000 Meritocracy is now viewed as just another symptom of white supremacy.

00:03:15.000 So, I'm reading this piece here, and I just want to re-emphasize this.

00:03:18.000 According to medical and STEM leaders, you write, to be white is to be per se racist.

00:03:23.000 Apologies and reparations for that offending trait are now derujeur.

00:03:28.000 In June 2020, Nature identified itself as Nature magazine as one of culpably, quote, white institutions that is responsible for bias in research and scholarship.

00:03:38.000 You continue to say the AMA strategic plan, quote, blames white male lawmakers for America's systemic racism.

00:03:45.000 So, Heather, you know, America has always had the best healthcare.

00:03:49.000 It's not always been widely accessible, and it's obviously been very expensive.

00:03:52.000 But we're playing with some very dangerous things here.

00:03:55.000 The death of meritocracy in a field of science and medicine is something that I don't think any decent civil society would do if it was sane.

00:04:03.000 Is there any sort of institutional backlash against this, or is it just all kind of a mass social experiment in a field that should be immune from such idea pathogens?

00:04:13.000 There is no institutional backlash, Charlie.

00:04:16.000 It is utterly astounding.

00:04:18.000 Recently, the National Cancer Institute sent out a notice to its cancer research centers saying, well, we give out this prestigious grant for the most cutting-edge researchers in cancer who are most likely to make breakthroughs by engaging in high-risk ideas.

00:04:39.000 You know, maybe their research won't pan out, but it could be paradigm shifting.

00:04:44.000 And the problem with these so-called outstanding investigator awards is that they have been predominantly given to white and Asian researchers in the past.

00:04:54.000 And that, according to the National Cancer Institute, which is a branch of the NIH, means that those awards are patently prima fascia, invalid, and racist.

00:05:04.000 So they asked their cancer centers to send in a different group of nominees.

00:05:10.000 In other words, change your standards, lower your standards to make sure that you're sending us underrepresented minorities regardless of their qualifications, who will then, of course, be selected for these awards. 1.00

00:05:23.000 And I asked an oncologist, when are you guys going to fight back?

00:05:29.000 When are white and Asian researchers going to say we refuse to be sidelined?

00:05:34.000 We refuse to have our accomplishments be torn away from us and demeaned for the trivialities of our skin color.

00:05:42.000 And he answered, basically, we need our jobs.

00:05:45.000 We value our jobs.

00:05:46.000 Those few individuals who have spoken out have been destroyed and we can't afford it.

00:05:53.000 So we're facing a fear factor where there are individual doctors who see what's happening.

00:05:58.000 They are appalled, and yet they will be crushed if they speak out and say we should be admitting medical students based on their medical skills, not based on their skin color.

00:06:08.000 Right now, a Black medical school applicant with mediocre MCAT scores, these are the standardized test scores to medicine, has a nine times greater chance of admissions than an Asian applicant. 0.89

00:06:23.000 These are scores that would be automatically disqualifying if presented by white and Asians, and yet we are admitting Blacks and Hispanics with much lower skills and they get passed along. 1.00

00:06:34.000 I mean, it doesn't take someone to understand all the intricacies of MSPE, the medical student performance evaluation, and all this, which is someone listening saying, wait a second, hold on.

00:06:44.000 You're trying to tell me that my doctor who might be performing highly complicated surgery on me, by the way, medical error is one of the leading causes of death in America, as it is, just so everyone's clear, that medical error kills a lot of people every single year.

00:06:59.000 We can get the actual number, but it's significant that now we're going to be introducing a supply of people that have subpar scores.

00:07:07.000 Can you just build that out more, Heather, just how wide the gap is now of the lowering of standards?

00:07:15.000 I'm just kind of glossing this right here.

00:07:16.000 I didn't get a chance to get to this part in the piece, but it says something like this.

00:07:19.000 The University of Pennsylvania Medical School guarantees admission to black undergraduates who score a modest 1300 on the SAT, maintain a 3.6 GPA, and complete two summers of internship at the school.

00:07:32.000 The school waives its MCAT requirement for these Black students.

00:07:36.000 UPenn's non-preferred medical students score in the top 1% of all MCAT takers.

00:07:41.000 What would a white student have to take then, Heather?

00:07:44.000 And how is that not outright in total discrimination?

00:07:47.000 It's total discrimination.

00:07:49.000 Again, a white MCAT score has to be in the top 1%, at least, if not better than that. 0.82

00:07:58.000 But if you're black, they don't even want to look at your MCATs because there are virtually no, I mean, there's few individual blacks that are, of course, are scoring high, but on average, there is what's known as a whole standard deviation of difference, and that's a fancy statistical term that basically means a really big, really significant difference between the average black MCAT score and the average white MCAT score. 0.99

00:08:22.000 Again, blacks are being admitted with scores that would be automatically disqualifying if submitted by whites. 0.86

00:08:29.000 And then what happens is, is quite predictably, according to mismatch theory, which is propounded by Richard Sander at the UCLA Law School and others, they don't do as well.

00:08:39.000 If you're admitted to an academic environment where you are not competitively qualified, you're not going to learn as much.

00:08:45.000 The teaching is going to be pitched at a higher level of skills than you have.

00:08:49.000 So they do poorly in medical schools.

00:08:51.000 So what's the next step?

00:08:53.000 Get rid of grades.

00:08:54.000 There's an essential test that is given at the second year of medical school called step one of the medical licensing exam.

00:09:02.000 Well, this year they abolished all grades in the step one test and replaced it with pass-fail.

00:09:08.000 Why? 0.98

00:09:09.000 Because blacks and Hispanics have much poor scores on step one. 1.00

00:09:14.000 And so we're saying to ourselves, we just want to destroy the yardsticks. 0.99

00:09:18.000 You know, it's like spinal tap.

00:09:22.000 You know, we're just going to change or destroy the yardsticks rather than acknowledge that there are underlying skills gap differences that need to be closed.

00:09:30.000 And it's too late to do it in medical school.

00:09:33.000 And you are putting people's lives at risk, not only when you show up at an ER with a fatal heart attack, but it's a more subtle problem as well, Charlie, which is medical research.

00:09:44.000 The federal government has encumbered medical research labs with these absurd diversity requirements for racism in who gets to work there, racism in clinical trials.

00:09:56.000 And that is slowing down the pace of research.

00:09:58.000 People tell me I'm spending more time writing my diversity, equity, and inclusion statement to try and justify how studying cell signaling and nematodes for cancer research has a diversity impact than I am actually doing the science.

00:10:15.000 So we are destroying the golden goose that has saved billions of lives the world over.

00:10:23.000 I mean, this is the most serious, one of the most serious things happening in front of us.

00:10:26.000 And it's political in some sense, but I mean, you look at science and medicine is now going to be flooded with unqualified, over-promoted people based solely on the color of their skin.

00:10:38.000 It's also an insult to minorities.

00:10:40.000 It's a huge insult to minorities, as if they can't be able to get to medical school and get the grades necessary.

00:10:49.000 There's so much to unpack here.

00:10:50.000 Heather McDonald, and also read her book, The Diversity Delusion, everybody.

00:10:54.000 She was way ahead of the curve on this.

00:10:56.000 She saw it happening.

00:10:57.000 And the reason she saw it happening is she saw it happening on college campuses.

00:11:00.000 And she started happening, she saw it happening at entry-level jobs.

00:11:03.000 And I remember some of these kind of moderate Republican types would say, oh, Charlie, who cares about affirmative action if it's a janitor or if it's this?

00:11:10.000 And now it's affirmative action for your brain surgery, everybody, or your pilot, where your hand, your life is literally in somebody's hands.

00:11:19.000 So, Heather, I have a theory here, and I'd love your thoughts on it.

00:11:22.000 Politically, I'm just talking politically, not culturally and not in the corporate world.

00:11:26.000 It seems as if there has been a de-emphasizing of the race issue versus 2020.

00:11:32.000 Crime is up, and talking about BLM and talking about equity all the time seems to turn off suburban and independent voters.

00:11:40.000 What's your thoughts on that, Heather?

00:11:41.000 Think that the Democrats specifically are getting a little uneasy about talking about defund the police and the over-racialization of our politics.

00:11:50.000 What's your take?

00:11:51.000 Well, Biden is clearly terrified about defunding the police, but I don't take any particular long-term sucker from this.

00:11:59.000 I think as soon as they get through the elections, they're going to double down on the America is racist and the beating up on whites meme. 0.87

00:12:08.000 You know, we'll see if Biden restrains himself tonight on the white supremacists as big as source of violence and threat in the United States, which is a complete joke.

00:12:19.000 So, right now, you know, they've got the bright, shiny Mar-a-Lago bauble to play with.

00:12:26.000 But frankly, I don't think this signals any kind of long-term shift because there's just too many institutional players that, but above all, the universities, but now the press and government, you know, the deep state that are utterly invested in black privilege and the demonization of Western civilization as something that is corrupt and oppressive simply by virtue of its historical demographics. 0.89

00:12:55.000 So, Heather, do you think that there is a concerted pushback from Latino and Asians?

00:13:01.000 It seems as if white voters are split.

00:13:04.000 Half are on board for this and half are scared to say anything about it.

00:13:07.000 But it seems as if there's this pushback from Asian and Latino voters or people in particular that the hyperracialization of this doesn't necessarily always benefit the kind of body politic of the left.

00:13:20.000 Are you seeing any sort of backlash to this, not institutionally, but from the bottom up?

00:13:24.000 Well, certainly, you know, the best fighters against racial preferences in admissions, whether it's in, you know, K through 12, gifted and talented programs, admission schools, you know, the Asians have been very good on trying to stand up for colorblind meritocratic admissions on crime. 0.99

00:13:44.000 There has been a Hispanic vote.

00:13:47.000 And yet, let me tell you, I still remain amazed that the leaders in the Asian community, when they're talking about anti-Asian hate crimes, are still adopting the rhetoric of the left and implying, if not stating outright, that the problem is whites that are beating up on vulnerable Asian elderly when the videos speak for themselves.

00:14:06.000 I mean, the Asian hate crime phenomenon is overwhelmingly committed by inner city blacks. 0.95

00:14:13.000 So, yes, there's grounds there and hope for peeling it off, but it's going to take a while because there's still a strong identification with the Democratic Party for whatever reason, whether it's wanting big government or not wanting to be associated with these racist Republicans that they keep hearing about from the media.

00:21:30.000 And if you compare Joe Biden's track record, despite sort of the sound bites from the same press secretary about the unprecedented economic recovery, I'm not sure I'm seeing that.

00:21:39.000 I think anyone with a job or anyone who's filled up their tank or anyone who's been to a supermarket would probably disagree.

00:21:44.000 But because the press has just given up on actually doing journalism and they're pure propagandists at this point, they'll just let it go and pretend as though the nonsense that they say is true.

00:21:57.000 So it seems to me that everything coming out of this administration, while simultaneously preaching for unity, is trying to do the exact opposite of create unity.

00:22:06.000 We'll hear them say stuff like that.

00:22:08.000 In the next sentence, they'll talk about, but we'll create unity.

00:22:10.000 Yeah, it's unity as long as you go 100% along with what you say or what we say.

00:22:16.000 If you do something otherwise, you're a threat to democracy.

00:22:53.000 Your father and you are both saying, can we calm down the temperature here?

00:22:56.000 But play cut one, the wonderful governor of New York, play cut one.

00:23:01.000 And we're here to say that the era of Trump and Zeldon and Molinaro, just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong, okay?

00:23:15.000 Because you don't represent our values.

00:23:19.000 You are not New Yorkers.

00:23:23.000 I mean, this language is so dangerous. 1.00

00:23:30.000 Anything that could get a sound bite, you know, in the past, didn't stop him from coming to our office and kissing butt for decades.

00:23:38.000 Kathy Hochel, who no one had heard of prior to last month, or Donald Trump?

00:23:42.000 Who created more jobs?

00:23:44.000 But, you know, that's the thing.

00:23:45.000 They can get away with that kind of rhetoric while they continually fail the people of their state.

00:23:51.000 And, you know, they're able to get away with that perhaps because of the big cities.

00:23:53.000 If you go, you know, a few minutes outside of New York City, it's very different.

00:23:58.000 And those people don't feel that they have any representation because of exactly that kind of commentary.

00:31:52.000 One of the selling points of modernity, one of the kind of compelling reasons why all of us have to work so hard and keep this kind of thing, this whole thing afloat, is you get to live longer.

00:32:06.000 If you kind of look at the charts of the people that defend free markets, and obviously I'm one of them, but the people that like almost pathologically defend markets at all costs, they say, well, we're living longer than ever before, and we're living longer than we did in the early 1900s.

00:32:21.000 Now, if you actually take out infant mortality and pregnancy-related deaths, life expectancy has only moderately increased over the last 50 years, but it's still legit. 1.00

00:32:32.000 But now that life expectancy is going down, and the last time life expectancy went down was during the height of World War II, we should probably take a pause and say, what the heck is going on?

00:32:45.000 The Center for Disease Control and Prevention officials blame COVID-19 for about half the decline in 2021, a year where vaccinations became widely available, blah, Okay.

00:32:54.000 It's a dismal situation.

00:32:56.000 It was bad before and it's gotten worse.

00:32:58.000 But it's also gone down because of fentanyl.

00:33:03.000 That's right.

00:33:04.000 Drug overdose is fentanyl, suicide, people harming themselves.

00:33:10.000 This is a major issue.

00:33:16.000 Experts say that there are many possible reasons for such differences.

00:33:19.000 I'm so tired of hearing about experts.

00:33:21.000 Whenever I hear expert, I immediately discount what it's saying.

00:33:24.000 They say it's because of low vaccination rates.

00:33:26.000 Let me tell you, it's not because of low vaccination rates.

00:33:29.000 A greater share of the population and lower paying jobs.

00:33:32.000 You lock down the entire country unnecessarily for two years.

00:33:36.000 But its decline in 2020, 2021 will stand as the first two consecutive years of declining life expectancy.

00:33:43.000 Life expectancy for women in the United States dropped about 10 months from just under 10, from just under 80 years.

00:33:50.000 Maybe our leaders should be more concerned about why life expectancy is declining rapidly more than the MAGA base are sending money to Ukraine.

00:34:02.000 If your country seems to not care when life expectancy goes down, you need new leaders.
