The Charlie Kirk Show - Donald Trump's Favorite Word: Tariffs

00:00:00.000 Hey everybody, the Charlie Kirk Show.

00:00:01.000 Donald Trump's favorite word.

00:00:03.000 It's the T word.

00:00:04.000 And we talk all about it.

00:00:06.000 Tariff, tariff, tariff.

00:00:08.000 Bernie Moreno also joins us, new senator from Ohio.

00:00:33.000 I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk.

00:00:36.000 Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.

00:00:40.000 I want to thank Charlie.

00:00:41.000 He's an incredible guy.

00:00:42.000 His spirit, his love of this country, he's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA. We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.

00:00:59.000 That's why we are here.

00:01:27.000 We won.

00:01:28.000 They lost.

00:01:29.000 We are in the driver's seat.

00:01:31.000 And what if I told you that the president-elect President Donald Trump is already doing more to change foreign policy for the better before even being sworn in?

00:01:41.000 Many times on the campaign trail, President Donald Trump would say, my favorite word in the dictionary, my favorite word right next to love, is the T word.

00:01:53.000 Now, why would Donald Trump make such a statement like that?

00:01:56.000 Of course, in typical Donald Trump showman style, he was trying to make a point, but it was a very profound point.

00:02:02.000 It's because as Donald Trump was sent out to exile by the regime, to Mar-a-Lago, to reflect on the last four years, to reflect on his first term of his presidency, President Donald Trump I'm sure came to the conclusion that one of the unrealized unilateral powers of the executive that was given to him by Congress to be able to protect American interests and improve the country that he is tasked to

00:02:33.000 govern is the tariff power.

00:02:36.000 Now mind you, there has been a bipartisan consensus in Washington, D.C. for the last 40 years that we must have unlimited and unfettered free trade.

00:02:47.000 That the more piles of plastic that we import from foreign nations, somehow that is making us wealthier. 1.00

00:02:54.000 It doesn't matter that our factories are vanishing.

00:02:56.000 It doesn't matter that our communities are being flooded with opioids.

00:02:59.000 It doesn't matter that the muscular class...

00:03:02.000 No, we must have piles of plastic.

00:03:07.000 It's a good thing that we have garage sales of stuff that we've never even opened.

00:03:12.000 It's a good thing.

00:03:13.000 It's making us wealthier.

00:03:14.000 And Trump said, well, no, it's not, actually.

00:03:15.000 You can't just build an economy based on shorting stocks and real estate.

00:03:21.000 You must make stuff.

00:03:23.000 You cannot have a software-dependent economy.

00:03:26.000 You must also have a hardware economy.

00:03:30.000 And Donald Trump is a believer in the personal, the tactile, the real, not the abstraction.

00:03:37.000 If you can't touch it, feel it, see it, smell it, ship it, use it. 0.99

00:03:43.000 He's not that interested in it.

00:03:45.000 You see, Donald Trump is a resetting back to how the economy should be configured.

00:03:50.000 However, the overfixation on international free trade has deindustrialized the American economy.

00:03:56.000 You drive nonstop from West Virginia to South Dakota, you will see, not on the expressway, by the way, barren town after barren town that were once great pinnacles of American industry.

00:04:13.000 Where people found value.

00:04:15.000 Where towns were robust.

00:04:18.000 Now they are ghost towns.

00:04:20.000 So what exactly happened?

00:04:22.000 Well, the unions probably overreached a little bit.

00:04:25.000 We must be honest about that.

00:04:27.000 That the unions asked for a little bit too much.

00:04:29.000 And management of these companies started to get reached out to by consulting groups such as McKinsey.

00:04:37.000 McKinsey would come down to Athens, Ohio.

00:04:40.000 They'd come down to Mahonig County, Ohio.

00:04:43.000 And they'd present on a whiteboard a very compelling vision.

00:04:47.000 Let's say that you make dishwashers or dryers or refrigerators in Mahonig County, Ohio.

00:04:55.000 And the McKinsey types, who all were educated at the very same managerial business schools in Harvard, Princeton, Yale, but especially Yale and Penn, especially, would go on the whiteboard and they'd say, listen, We can maximize your profits.

00:05:11.000 And you guys can get rid of your union headache.

00:05:14.000 But here's what it's going to require.

00:05:17.000 We phase out the factory in Athens, Ohio.

00:05:21.000 And we send that factory to Wuhan, China.

00:05:25.000 And you can get your widgets for your refrigerator for five cents instead of two dollars.

00:05:33.000 That you can have very, very low labor and then you bring the products back to America and you can expand your profits and everybody is happier.

00:05:43.000 Now, the management of these companies were really reluctant to do this because it is simply and nakedly putting profits above patriotism.

00:05:51.000 There is no other way to describe it.

00:05:53.000 There is no other way to put it.

00:05:55.000 But all of a sudden we had elected leaders Ronald Reagan was guilty of this.

00:06:00.000 H.W. Bush was absolutely guilty.

00:06:02.000 That would praise this idea of a new bilateral free trade rules-based international order.

00:06:09.000 We saw NAFTA be drafted.

00:06:11.000 We saw the normalization of this idea that I was going to be raised in a country and everything said, made in China, made in China, made in China.

00:06:19.000 We are propagandized to believe that we are actually getting wealthier through this stuff.

00:06:24.000 And it is a byproduct of Austrian economics.

00:06:27.000 Again, there's a lot of good parts of Austrian economics, but it is far too obsessed with distant abstractions while your own nation becomes poorer, sicker, diseased, without work.

00:06:46.000 And the intentions here, well, let's maximize the bottom line, and all those guys in Athens, Ohio, they can go get jobs in the technological economy.

00:06:55.000 Well, it turns out that was a bad deal for the country.

00:06:59.000 It turns out looking back, we got piles of garbage that we do not use, limitless amounts of cheap stuff that we do not value.

00:07:07.000 We have more textiles than we know what to do with.

00:07:10.000 But are we actually a wealthier country?

00:07:13.000 Yes, our GDP might be more, but are we...

00:07:17.000 Substantially in a better advantage, geopolitically, economically, than before these trashy ideas.

00:07:24.000 Nations are fundamentally a group of people, not a collection of GDP. GDP is one of hundreds of metrics that you can use.

00:07:35.000 To try and measure whether or not a country is doing better.

00:07:39.000 But the most fundamental question is, are the people better?

00:07:42.000 And no.

00:07:43.000 Because of the de-industrialist trade policies brought forward by McKinsey and the bipartisan groups of Democrats and Republicans, or should I say Democrats and Republicans because you can't even tell the difference sometimes, we have seen the hollowing out of America.

00:07:59.000 No one dared to question this, except Ross Perot, who was obviously unsuccessful.

00:08:03.000 He said that sucking noise is Mexico taking all of our jobs, until Donald Trump came onto the scene, which of course is why he has flipped the entire map and why he has now turned Ohio into a deep red state, Iowa into a deep red state, and Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania twice.

00:08:18.000 It's because Donald Trump saw the problem, diagnosed it, and was willing to do something about it.

00:08:22.000 Now, there is almost no...

00:08:24.000 There is no topic...

00:08:27.000 Similar to tariffs that will get the clamoring and the anxiety of the corporate class.

00:08:34.000 There's nothing similar to this.

00:08:36.000 And Donald Trump announced last night something so profound.

00:08:40.000 It's not just profound on an economic basis because it is necessary for us to protect our industry and to be able to rebuild the muscular class.

00:08:47.000 But it's also geopolitical because this involves putting China in check.

00:08:52.000 This involves stopping the hordes of criminal aliens that are coming into our country. 1.00

00:08:56.000 You see, Donald Trump loves the T word for a reason, tariff.

00:09:01.000 Because as he was reflecting on those four years of exile, I'm sure he grew and grew in appreciation.

00:09:07.000 Wow!

00:09:08.000 When I was president, my greatest wins were when I was able to use the other greatest word.

00:09:14.000 Because tariff, underneath tariff, is another beautiful word when you are trying to negotiate.

00:09:21.000 Leverage.

00:09:23.000 Donald Trump understands the art of a deal better than anybody else.

00:09:26.000 And so when you have unilateral tariff authority, especially when you are the incumbent economic power, especially when you are still the wealthiest country, especially when you call all the shots, especially when you are the global reserve currency, that especially is a unique opportunity for you to be able to use tariffs as a wealth creator.

00:09:48.000 However, the bipartisan groups in D.C. say, oh, no, no, no, because they're all funded by these corporations that keep wanting to make their widgets in China and not make them in Cleveland, Tennessee.

00:10:00.000 So Donald Trump sent out a historic series of social media posts last night.

00:10:05.000 Any goods from China will be subject to a 10% tariff.

00:10:09.000 Mexico and Canada, 25% tariff on all goods until the illegal immigration on the northern border and the southern border will be completed, will be finished, and will be handled.

00:10:21.000 And this is before Trump gets into office.

00:10:23.000 The brilliance of doing it before he goes into office gives them time to get the house into order so he will inherit a better circumstance.

00:10:33.000 Hey everybody, Charlie Kirk here.

00:11:28.000 That is LegacyBox.com slash KIRK. LegacyBox.com slash KIRK. I could do a whole hour on tariffs.

00:11:38.000 So President Trump says everyone is aware thousands of people are pouring through Mexico and Canada, bringing crime and drugs at levels never seen before.

00:11:44.000 Right now a caravan is coming from Mexico composed of thousands of people seems to be unstoppable in its quest to come through our currently open border.

00:11:51.000 On January 20th, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States and its ridiculous open borders.

00:12:03.000 This tariff will remain in effect until such a time as drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop this invasion of our country. 0.96

00:12:09.000 Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long simmering problem.

00:12:14.000 We hereby demand that they use this power until such a time they do so.

00:12:17.000 I love when he ends these.

00:12:19.000 I love this last sentence because it's just so passive aggressive.

00:12:22.000 It's time for them to pay a very big price.

00:12:24.000 The next one has the passive-aggressive one.

00:12:26.000 Then China.

00:12:26.000 I've had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular fentanyl, being sent into the United States, but to no avail.

00:12:32.000 Representatives of China told me that they would institute their maximum penalty, that of death, for any drug dealers caught doing this.

00:12:38.000 But unfortunately, they never followed through.

00:12:40.000 And drugs are pouring into our country, mostly through Mexico at levels never seen before.

00:12:44.000 Until such time as they stop, we'll be charging China an additional 10% tariff, above any additional tariffs on all their many products coming into the United States of America.

00:12:53.000 I love this last sentence.

00:12:55.000 Thank you for your attention to this matter.

00:12:58.000 Let's take one at a time.

00:12:59.000 First, Mexico, Canada.

00:13:01.000 25% tariff.

00:13:02.000 That's a lot.

00:13:02.000 What is Trump doing here?

00:13:04.000 Likely.

00:13:04.000 I have no inside information.

00:13:05.000 This is completely on the outside.

00:13:07.000 I've not been involved in any of these meetings, any of these conversations.

00:13:10.000 This is completely just gut instinct of what I think he's doing.

00:13:13.000 He's giving Mexico and Canada a 58 to 60 day heads up, however many days we have left.

00:13:19.000 If you don't fix this, pain and suffering will ensue.

00:13:22.000 So he is going to inherit a much better circumstance for mass deportations, breaking up caravans.

00:13:29.000 The point isn't literally to impose a 25% tariff.

00:13:33.000 It's to make that our current crisis is now their crisis too.

00:13:37.000 By the way, Mexico is saying, well, we'll impose tariffs as well.

00:13:40.000 Yeah, good luck, Mexico. 1.00

00:13:41.000 You think that all of a sudden Mexican tariffs against America are going to be like this big retaliation?

00:13:46.000 We are the incumbent power.

00:13:48.000 They need us so badly.

00:13:50.000 They need us so badly that they will do whatever it takes to conform to our demands.

00:13:58.000 We have been getting taken advantage of endlessly.

00:14:01.000 America under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris has been a nation for looting.

00:14:05.000 We are the dumping ground of the planet.

00:14:09.000 And Donald Trump is resisting all the calls that he's getting.

00:14:12.000 And I could say this, I know this to be certain, of people that are lobbying against tariffs.

00:14:17.000 Well, Mr. President, be very careful.

00:14:19.000 Boom! 0.99

00:14:20.000 He just comes out of the gate.

00:14:22.000 This is such a theme from the first Trump administration.

00:14:25.000 It's like when he was the first president ever to think that America should consider its interest.

00:14:29.000 Do you remember when President Trump sent out that tweet in his first term?

00:14:34.000 I believe it was June of...

00:14:38.000 2019, if I'm not mistaken, if my memory serves me correctly, when he says there'll be a 5% tariff on Mexico and Mexico immediately conformed to his demands.

00:14:47.000 He is using the tariff threat as leverage against countries that have been taking advantage of us.

00:14:53.000 Joe Biden would never do this because he doesn't think America is the great country.

00:14:56.000 He thinks that we are at...

00:14:58.000 Equity with Mexico and Canada. 0.92

00:14:59.000 Who are we to tell them what to do?

00:15:01.000 We have to be partners.

00:15:02.000 No, we are the incumbent power.

00:15:05.000 We are the greatest nation ever to exist in the history of the world.

00:15:08.000 We call the shots.

00:15:09.000 We pay for all your aid.

00:15:11.000 We pay to protect you.

00:15:12.000 We have aircraft carriers in your base.

00:15:14.000 We're in charge.

00:15:16.000 Get behind us.

00:15:17.000 Now, the China thing is much more complex, actually.

00:15:20.000 The China thing is a whole show for a different time.

00:15:23.000 That is a separate issue.

00:15:25.000 And China actually has been more willing now to get to the table, according to public reports, than Mexico is really losing their mind over this because the Mexican drug cartels are going to become very, very bloody and really unhinged because they're about to lose billions of dollars.

00:15:41.000 Justin Trudeau, however, calls Donald Trump just two hours after President-elect Trump threatens devastating sanctions against Canada.

00:15:48.000 So Trudeau hears this news.

00:15:50.000 He has a crisis meeting.

00:15:51.000 Get Trump on the phone.

00:15:52.000 Mr. President, we're doing a lot.

00:15:54.000 And I don't know what that phone call consisted of, but I can almost guarantee you President Trump was like, well, if you don't fix this from the northern border and Mexico doesn't fix it from the southern border, good luck getting Canadian lumber, which is a huge industry, by the way.

00:16:08.000 Their industry is highly, highly dependent on lumber into the United States.

00:16:14.000 Our State Department is currently full of people who think their job is to favor other countries over our own.

00:16:21.000 This is, of all the things that Trump has done in the last three weeks, it's been three weeks since victory everybody, this is by far one of the most encouraging developments because he has resisted all the noise of the corporate class and he says, no, I promised I would do this and he's using it as a brilliant negotiation tactic.

00:16:40.000 He is going to inherit Not a border crisis.

00:16:42.000 He's going to inherit a very calm border because of this.

00:16:46.000 Because Mexico is going to be freaked out the first day, he's going to wreck the Mexican economy. 0.98

00:16:51.000 This is what America first looks like in practice. 0.80

00:16:58.000 Everybody, no institution works harder to give young people the best education in America than my favorite college, Hillsdale College.

00:17:03.000 For 180 years now, Hillsdale's mission has been to develop the minds and improve the hearts of its students.

00:17:09.000 And today, in just 30 seconds, you can learn what that means by watching a short video at charlieforhillsdale.com.

00:17:15.000 Since 1844, Hillsdale is focused on learning, character, and faith in providing just the kind of education needed to preserve liberty.

00:17:22.000 And they extend their mission nationwide through outreach efforts like their Free Digest of Liberty in Primus.

00:17:28.000 Too many colleges and universities today indoctrinate their students to hate America.

00:17:32.000 At Hillsdale, students learn how America became the freest and most prosperous nation in history.

00:17:37.000 And at a time when so many college campuses are rent with division, Hillsdale students sign an honor code promising to respect the rights of others and rise to self-government.

00:17:46.000 Take some time to learn more about what makes Hillsdale College unique at charlieforhillsdale.com, America's greatest college.

00:17:53.000 I love Hillsdale.

00:17:54.000 Go to charlieforhillsdale.com.

00:17:59.000 Joining us now is Senator-elect, so excited to say this, Bernie Moreno.

00:18:04.000 Bernie, we've been in your corner this entire time, this entire journey, and super thrilled to see you get across the finish line.

00:18:12.000 Congratulations, Bernie.

00:18:13.000 Well, thank you, and I couldn't have done it without you.

00:18:16.000 You're a big supporter not only in the general election, but in the primary as well.

00:18:20.000 You had people all over Ohio knocking on doors, making phone calls.

00:18:24.000 Turning Point Action did a great job and truly appreciate all the support, not only from you, but all the warriors that you have all over the state.

00:18:31.000 Well, thank you, Bernie.

00:18:32.000 And we are just beyond thrilled and we know you're going to do a wonderful job.

00:18:36.000 So before we get into the news of the day, I do think it's important.

00:18:39.000 Why don't you tell us kind of a recap of the election?

00:18:42.000 It was one of the most expensive Senate races of this cycle, if not the most, and certainly one of the most expensive ever in the history of the country.

00:18:51.000 How were you able to beat a very crafty incumbent Democrat senator from the great state of Ohio?

00:18:58.000 Yeah, so this was the most expensive non-presidential political campaign in American history.

00:19:05.000 Almost $500-plus million.

00:19:08.000 It's obscene amounts of money.

00:19:11.000 Most of it was negative ads.

00:19:12.000 Look, what Sherrod Brown tried to do is try to fool the people of Ohio into believing that he was a moderate, that he was bipartisan.

00:19:19.000 And Charlie, he actually tried to make people believe that he was pro-Trump.

00:19:22.000 Now, what we did is we exposed him for the fraud that he is.

00:19:26.000 He hasn't even called to concede, by the way, the election, since election day three weeks ago.

00:19:31.000 And he just, you know, personal attack after personal attack against me, lie after lie.

00:19:37.000 We just told the truth.

00:19:38.000 Look, this guy's voting record.

00:19:40.000 He was for trans athletes.

00:19:42.000 He's for men going into women's locker rooms, for giving gender care to children. 0.99

00:19:47.000 These are the things that he fought on and just didn't work.

00:19:49.000 Yeah, and you ran a great disciplined campaign.

00:19:52.000 Can I just repeat that for the audience?

00:19:54.000 Did you say a $500 million?

00:19:56.000 Is that right?

00:19:57.000 Over $500 million, yeah.

00:19:59.000 Jeez.

00:20:00.000 We broke a record here at Ohio, Charlie.

00:20:02.000 The most expensive non-presidential race in American history.

00:20:08.000 Well, and so I just, I want to just stay on this for one second.

00:20:12.000 How does one even spend $500 million?

00:20:15.000 I mean, every advertisement during a Browns or a Bengals game must have been against Bernie or against Sherrod Browns.

00:20:22.000 Is that a fair summation?

00:20:24.000 Yeah, pretty much.

00:20:25.000 We ruined live sports.

00:20:26.000 We ruined Jeopardy.

00:20:28.000 YouTube pre-roll was brutal.

00:20:30.000 People are so happy to see car commercials again.

00:20:32.000 Let me just say that.

00:20:34.000 By the way, that shows how great of a candidate you are, Bernie, and also the power of the Trump movement, truly.

00:20:40.000 So we're thrilled for you.

00:20:42.000 So I want to now get into this tariff story.

00:20:45.000 If there is a state that is Exhibit A of the failure of 30 years of deindustrialization, it would be Ohio.

00:20:54.000 And one of the reasons why you were so successful is that Sherrod Brown talked a lot about deindustrialization, but he never actually did anything about it.

00:21:02.000 Your comment on President Trump last evening fulfilling a campaign mandate saying that he will protect American industry and protect the great people of Ohio's jobs in Athens, Ohio, or in Columbus, Ohio, in the communities that make America so great.

00:21:18.000 Your comments, Bernie Moreno.

00:21:20.000 No, you're exactly right, Charlie.

00:21:21.000 Look, in 1949, six of the wealthiest 14 cities in America were in Ohio.

00:21:26.000 We were the rubber capital in Akron.

00:21:28.000 We were the steel capital in Youngstown.

00:21:30.000 We were the glass capital in Toledo.

00:21:34.000 We were the computing capital in Doughton-Dayton.

00:21:37.000 What we've seen is not just the last 30 or 40 years of Democrats, but also Republicans That voted to send our industries overseas, gutted our middle class, destroyed these communities.

00:21:49.000 And while Sherrod Brown talked about it, under his watch alone, we lost 200,000 manufacturing jobs.

00:21:55.000 And what President Trump did yesterday was absolutely unbelievable.

00:21:59.000 He laid down the gauntlet.

00:22:00.000 We've already taken a quarter of our auto industry and shipped it to Canada and Mexico.

00:22:06.000 That is devastating for places like Ohio and Michigan and other states here in the Midwest.

00:22:12.000 We're not going to put up with that anymore.

00:22:14.000 And if they're going to allow sex trafficking and human trafficking and fentanyl that's killing over a hundred thousands of Americans every year, there's going to be ramifications. 0.99

00:22:23.000 We're not going to be suckers anymore. 0.99

00:22:25.000 And that's what President Trump has shown. 0.94

00:22:26.000 And he's the guy that can make it happen.

00:22:28.000 I'm so excited to even play a small role in getting our industrial base back here in America and have Ohio have a disproportionate amount of that love.

00:22:38.000 And President Trump is making good on this promise.

00:22:40.000 Bernie, can you also mention how there is immense pressure at times from some, not all, but some in the corporate donor class to not embrace tariffs?

00:22:51.000 Can you mention that?

00:22:52.000 Of course.

00:22:52.000 Because I hear it all the time from even some of our donors at Turning Point, and they mean really well, and they're wonderful people.

00:22:57.000 We just disagree.

00:22:58.000 They say, Charlie, we can't do any tariffs.

00:23:01.000 Can you mention that and the courage that it required for President Trump to fulfill this promise, but also for your campaign as well?

00:23:09.000 Well, Mexico and Canada, they say they're good partners, but they've let our borders be wide open.

00:23:14.000 And a good partner, a good friend doesn't allow that to happen.

00:23:17.000 They need to crack down on illegal immigration. 0.90

00:23:19.000 You know, they've been rewarded.

00:23:21.000 Again, just in autos, Charlie, 25% of our auto industry, 25% of the cars that we sell here in America come from Mexico and Canada.

00:23:31.000 You know what that would do if we brought 25% of our car sales and produced them right here in the United States of America?

00:23:38.000 That would be an economic bonanza for our working class. 0.96

00:23:41.000 And of course, look, a lot of the corporate elites don't like it because they make a lot of money.

00:23:46.000 By having low wage labor in other countries, especially China and Mexico, and then ship those products here.

00:23:53.000 And who pays the price?

00:23:55.000 The American middle class pays the price.

00:23:57.000 And we're not gonna continue to destroy the working class in this country.

00:24:00.000 The people who build this country are gonna be rewarded.

00:24:03.000 We're the party that's actually gonna rebuild our middle class so that we have a thriving and growing middle class in this country.

00:24:10.000 That's what keeps this country secure.

00:24:12.000 That's the American dream.

00:24:14.000 I saw my own father-in-law He's a guy who graduated from high school, went to work at U.S. Steel, worked there most of his life, was able to raise three kids in a safe community, own a home, own a car, and is now retired debt-free.

00:24:28.000 That's the American dream, and that's what we're going to restore in this country.

00:24:32.000 I love that.

00:24:32.000 Let me play a piece of tape here from Howard Lutnick, who is the incoming Commerce Secretary and also going to be the U.S. Trade Representative.

00:24:39.000 Play cut 37, please.

00:24:41.000 And of course it's a bargaining chip.

00:24:42.000 We can't sell a Ford or GM in Europe.

00:24:46.000 You go to Europe, you can't sell a Ford or GM. Why?

00:24:49.000 There's 100% tariffs.

00:24:51.000 How about in Japan?

00:24:53.000 100% tariffs.

00:24:55.000 So do you think if we said, we're going to tariff you the way you tariff us, do you think they're going to allow Mercedes and all these Japanese companies and Porsches and BMWs to all of a sudden have 100% tariffs in America?

00:25:08.000 Of course not.

00:25:09.000 They're going to come and negotiate, and their tariffs are going to come down.

00:25:12.000 And finally, Ford and General Motors are going to be able to sell in these places.

00:25:16.000 How does that sound?

00:25:17.000 Of course they're going to come down.

00:25:19.000 Of course.

00:25:20.000 This is just negotiating.

00:25:22.000 Your thoughts, Bernie, on Howard's comments?

00:25:24.000 Look, at the end of the day, President Trump laid it out a long time ago.

00:25:28.000 We have leaders that haven't been very smart, Charlie.

00:25:31.000 They've sold this country out.

00:25:33.000 We're going to require fair trade.

00:25:35.000 If one country wants to put in a tariff on our products to their country, maybe we should reciprocate by a three or four times tariff on their products.

00:25:44.000 We're not going to continue to get rolled by these countries.

00:25:47.000 And unfortunately, as you know, Charlie, we have leaders that are corrupt.

00:25:50.000 They've allowed that to happen because it's been rewarding for them personally.

00:25:54.000 And what's been a result?

00:25:56.000 Like I said earlier, communities like Lorraine, communities like Dayton, communities like Canton, Ohio, that have absolutely gotten crushed.

00:26:03.000 We're not going to allow that to happen.

00:26:05.000 I don't see it just as a negotiation tool.

00:26:07.000 I see it as a reality.

00:26:09.000 Because look, we have to make certain that we protect our industrial base.

00:26:13.000 It's also a matter of national security.

00:26:15.000 If we were ever to fight any kind of conflict along even remotely the scale of World War II, we do not have the industrial base, Charlie.

00:26:24.000 We've allowed 80% of our pharmaceuticals to be made in China.

00:26:28.000 Most semiconductor chips are made in Taiwan and overseas.

00:26:32.000 We cannot allow our country to get Rush from the inside.

00:26:37.000 So it's not just, of course, I agree with Howard, it is a negotiation, but I agree with President Trump more, which is that this is something that we have to look at because there's some industries that we're going to make certain that we protect here in the United States of America.

00:26:50.000 Bernie, I want to get your thoughts here on the couple minutes we have remaining on Donald Trump's nominees.

00:26:56.000 Your comments on who he is putting forward on this all-star cabinet, and do you plan to support the full slate?

00:27:02.000 Charlie, politics is so foreign to me.

00:27:05.000 I don't understand why this isn't embraced by every one of my colleagues.

00:27:08.000 Let me lay it out pretty simply.

00:27:10.000 Joe Biden, let me give you a fact.

00:27:12.000 Fact one. 0.99

00:27:12.000 Joe Biden had the worst cabinet in American history, the least qualified, the most ignorant cabinet members ever in the history of America, bar none. 0.99

00:27:22.000 Okay, that's fact number one. 0.89

00:27:24.000 Fact number two, every single Democrat voted to confirm Joe Biden's cabinet.

00:27:30.000 Fact three, not one single Democrat even made a peep about having a concern about one of Joe Biden's cabinet members.

00:27:39.000 What we have to do as Republicans is stay focused and united and make certain that we confirm every single person that President Trump nominates.

00:27:49.000 Have him make certain that he has an entire team in place no later than March 1st.

00:27:55.000 Every single nomination.

00:27:58.000 Stay focused and stay united so that we can get the agenda done.

00:28:02.000 And if President Trump, above all else, doesn't believe that that person's doing a good job, he will replace him immediately, unlike Joe Biden, who allowed his cabinet to run roughshod, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the open border, So my message to every Republican listening, get united, get focused, get every one of these cabinet members confirmed as soon as humanly possible.

00:28:26.000 No more nonsense.

00:28:28.000 Senator-elect Bernie Moreno, boy, does that feel good to say.

00:28:31.000 And do we have any idea who you're, because you're technically going to be the senior senator, right?

00:28:37.000 That's right.

00:28:38.000 Is that right?

00:28:38.000 JD will serve as the senior senator for a short period of time.

00:28:43.000 He resigns.

00:28:44.000 Mike DeWine is going to appoint somebody.

00:28:46.000 I'm very confident that Mike DeWine will appoint an American first conservative.

00:28:51.000 Very good.

00:28:51.000 It's kind of funny when you are newly elected and you'll be the senior senator, which I think is great.

00:28:57.000 Senator-elect Bernie could not be more happy.

00:28:59.000 Thank you for everything.

00:29:00.000 Talk to you soon.

00:29:01.000 Thank you.

00:29:02.000 That is a great man there.

00:29:03.000 And that is a big win this cycle, everybody.

00:29:05.000 A big, big win.

00:29:06.000 You see, the U.S. Senate is becoming more and more America first, more and more in the form of this audience. 0.74

00:29:13.000 It's a big deal.

00:29:16.000 If your approach to everyday aches and pains is to mask them, you know, feel better for a few hours only to have the pain return and then repeat the cycle all over again.

00:29:25.000 It's time to try Relief Factor.

00:29:27.000 And the good news is Relief Factor makes it quite easy.

00:29:30.000 Their three-week quick start is just $19.95, less than a dollar a day.

00:29:36.000 Instead of masking pain, Relief Factor helps eliminate it.

00:30:08.000 So don't mask your pain, fight it naturally with Relief Factor, relieffactor.com.

00:30:15.000 So I just want to mention a little bit more on the tariffs.

00:30:16.000 By the way, can you guys get this Walmart clip?

00:30:19.000 Because Walmart is definitely going to be lobbying against tariffs.

00:30:22.000 It just goes to show how Donald Trump is able to make the country great before even becoming president.

00:30:27.000 Walmart announces rollback of all DEI programs.

00:30:30.000 Now, why would Walmart do that?

00:30:32.000 Well, they're feeling the cultural pressure because they have no core beliefs at Walmart, none.

00:30:37.000 But Walmart also wants to be in a better negotiating position with Donald Trump because Walmart would get wrecked by a Chinese tariff.

00:30:45.000 But how does one avoid a tariff?

00:30:48.000 I said this repeatedly.

00:30:50.000 By the way, Ryan, this is a great time to repost all that tariff content on TikTok and social media because there were a lot of tariff questions back during our campus tour.

00:30:59.000 I bet we could have a contemplation of like a lot.

00:31:02.000 How does one avoid a tariff?

00:31:04.000 Let's pretend you are a Japanese car company.

00:31:09.000 How do you avoid a tariff?

00:31:11.000 You avoid a tariff by making the product in America.

00:31:17.000 There's no tariff.

00:31:19.000 So if you are Toyota, you make your pickup truck in America.

00:31:24.000 Lyndon Baines Johnson actually did a pickup truck tariff.

00:31:28.000 That is why almost all pickup trucks, whether they're American or foreign made, are actually all made in America.

00:31:33.000 They're almost all made in our country.

00:31:35.000 Here is the CEO of Walmart confirming a rollback of DEI policies, PlayCut40.

00:31:41.000 First, let me say, like many companies all across the United States, we've been on a journey and we continue to be on a journey.

00:31:48.000 And what we're trying to do is to ensure that every customer, every associate feels welcome here to shop and to feel like they belong.

00:31:57.000 And that term belong, we've been talking about belonging now.

00:32:00.000 For almost two years, early 2023, we started talking about belonging.

00:32:04.000 And we're going to continue to make the best decisions we can that makes everyone, our customers, our associates, feel like this is an environment they can shop in and thrive in.

00:32:13.000 So why is it, by the way, I think that's hilarious.

00:32:16.000 He's like, okay, I'm just going to completely bend the knee to all the cultural pressure.

00:32:21.000 And Walmart is doing that because they want to try to have a relaxing of tariffs.

00:32:24.000 It's all connected.

00:32:25.000 It's all connected.

00:32:26.000 You're trying to tell me the day that Donald Trump announces tariffs on both Mexico, Canada, and China is the day that Walmart decides to shed all their DEI stuff?

00:32:34.000 No, no, no, no.

00:32:35.000 It's all connected.

00:32:37.000 Did you know that in 1964, Lyndon Baines Johnson imposed a 25% tariff on imported light trucks known as the chicken tax in response to European tariffs on American chicken imports.

00:32:50.000 This tariff was a retaliatory measure against European tariffs on American chicken imports.

00:32:56.000 Now, mind you, this tariff has never been lifted.

00:32:59.000 This tariff has never changed.

00:33:02.000 And now, if you want to buy a pickup truck, almost all pickup trucks, Toyota pickup trucks, any foreign company that makes a pickup truck, they make the product in America and they have to employ Americans and expand our tax base.

00:33:15.000 When you are the incumbent economic power, you have the ability to tell a company, no, Porsche, no, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, you guys can still have your company and keep your profits, but you have to make the product In Lubbock, Texas.

00:33:33.000 You have to make the product in Wichita, Kansas.

00:33:36.000 You have to make the product in Flagstaff, Arizona.

00:33:40.000 Build the factories here.

00:33:42.000 Build the factories in our country.

00:33:45.000 The chicken tariff is a 25% tariff on light trucks.

00:33:51.000 One of many that were implemented before.

00:33:55.000 Donald Trump promises to make America a tax haven and a regulatory haven for companies that redomicile their production here.

00:34:03.000 So you think about it.

00:34:05.000 Since we are such a desired market, if you want to be able to get access to the wealthiest country, everyone wants access to America, by the way.

00:34:12.000 Everyone wants access to America.

00:34:14.000 Every company will tell you, international company, no matter how big and powerful they are in their home country, they want to do business here.

00:34:21.000 Bayer Drug Pharmaceuticals want to do business here.

00:34:23.000 Nova Nortsk from Denmark, who makes Ozembek, they want to do business here. 0.98

00:34:28.000 Use the leverage you have and they will all bend the knee.

00:34:31.000 They will all bend the knee to the will of America to be able to get access to our consumers.

00:34:37.000 It's the art of the deal. 0.99

00:34:38.000 And the fact that no one has thought to do this before is either these are all imbeciles or they're bought by the corporations or they don't actually care about the country or it's kind of a mixture of all three. 0.99

00:34:49.000 It is so simple. 0.99

00:34:50.000 It's so obvious.

00:34:51.000 And he just runs circles around all of these politicians.

00:34:54.000 Oh, well, we must have unfettered free trade.

00:34:56.000 Why exactly?

00:34:57.000 Has that made the country better?

00:34:59.000 Are we a healthier country?

00:35:02.000 Are we a more centered country?

00:35:04.000 They were so infatuated with free trade and those mantras of the 90s and early 2000s, and they are all getting put to rest.

00:35:12.000 They put profits ahead of patriotism, and Donald Trump puts America above all.

00:35:18.000 And so what you are going to see with these tariff threats is all these international companies start to build factories here to avoid the tariffs.

00:35:27.000 Employing our workers, wages will go up, our tax base will go up, and that's how you make America great again.

00:35:32.000 Thanks so much for listening, everybody.

00:35:34.000 Email us, as always, freedom at charliekirk.com.

00:35:36.000 Thanks so much for listening, and God bless.
