00:00:27.000 And Dalton's a good man.
00:00:28.000 He's a Turning Point USA leader who is doing this campaign, obviously outside of Turning Point USA.
00:00:35.000 And I hope he wins, but I hope you're all inspired by this story to try to take back our school boards.

00:01:05.000 Here we go.
00:01:06.000 Charlie, what you've done is incredible here.
00:01:08.000 Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campus.
00:01:10.000 I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk.
00:01:13.000 Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.
00:01:17.000 I want to thank Charlie.
00:01:18.000 He's an incredible guy.
00:01:19.000 His spirit, his love of this country, he's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA.
00:01:27.000 We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.
00:01:36.000 That's why we are here.
00:01:39.000 Hey, everybody.
00:01:40.000 Welcome to this episode of the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:01:42.000 I love when people run for office, when people decide that they've had enough and they want to get engaged and get involved.
00:01:52.000 I have been calling for people to run for office for quite some time.
00:01:56.000 I've called for parents to run for school board.
00:01:59.000 Many of them are either too busy or not interested.
00:02:02.000 But one person in particular, a turning point USA leader and someone who has a lot of courage, is going to run for school board, is running for school board, I should say, in Texas, Dalton Tassett.
00:02:16.000 Dalton, welcome to the Charlie Kirk Show.
00:02:18.000 Hi, thank you for having me.
00:02:19.000 So you're running for school board.
00:02:21.000 Tell us why and tell us a little bit about yourself.
00:02:25.000 Yeah, so I mean, in my community, we live in a very conservative community.
00:02:30.000 We vote 80% for Trump.
00:02:32.000 But our school board is pretty liberal.
00:02:35.000 I mean, they run as conservatives, fiscal conservatives.
00:02:39.000 But when it comes down to critical votes, they vote for the masks.
00:02:44.000 You know, so recently had a vote to keep the masks six to one.
00:02:47.000 So there was only one school board member that voted to get rid of them.
00:02:50.000 And so that really enraged a lot of people in our area.
00:02:54.000 And that's when people got really involved in deciding what's happening locally.
00:02:59.000 And right now, actually, we've had the highest turnout in a off-year election.
00:03:03.000 We've had 5,800 people vote in this election so far.
00:03:07.000 And so that's a really high turnout.
00:03:09.000 Usually it's around 2,000 people that vote in these local elections.
00:03:13.000 So it's going to be very interesting.
00:03:16.000 It's caught a lot of attention locally and people are really upset what's going on.
00:03:21.000 So how old are you, Dalton?
00:03:23.000 And I'm 22 years old.
00:03:24.000 You're 22 running for school board.
00:03:26.000 I'm inspired by that.
00:03:29.000 Do you find other, has there been a vacuum of other conservatives not running for school board in your area?
00:03:36.000 People are interested that people don't really care to run for office.
00:03:40.000 They don't want to have anyone attack them.
00:03:42.000 You know, they think politics is kind of dirty.
00:03:44.000 You know, and so you don't want to, yeah, it is.
00:03:46.000 And you don't want to get in the spotlight because people will go through all your stuff you've ever done and expose it.
00:03:53.000 You know, and they try to do that to me too.
00:03:55.000 You know, they've gone through all my social media and my voting record, you know, to see how conservative I am.
00:04:01.000 You know, and it's each thing they've done has failed, but it's, you know, it's still mud on the wall.
00:04:07.000 So they're trying to see what sticks, you know.
00:04:10.000 So running for a school board, I think, is one of the most important things that people can do to take back just the liberal dominance in our country.
00:04:21.000 And you're saying that your area voted 80% for Trump, but has some liberals or some liberal leanings on the school board.
00:04:29.000 You said in an interview that you've been inspired by 1 Timothy 4:12.
00:04:34.000 Tell us about that.
00:04:37.000 Yeah, so you know, that scripture says, don't let anyone look down upon you for your youth.
00:04:42.000 But I said the believers, an example, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.
00:04:48.000 You know, and so basically, the point of that scripture inspired me to run and to keep pushing forward.
00:04:54.000 You know, I've had a lot of people come out against me saying I'm too young, I don't know enough in the schools.
00:05:00.000 But the reality is, I've been the skin in the game for years.
00:05:03.000 You know, I was born and raised here in Rockwell, which is where I'm running for office, K through 12 in our school system.
00:05:11.000 So I know what's going on.
00:05:12.000 I know the teachers that are liberal.
00:05:14.000 I know the stuff they're pushing.
00:05:15.000 I mean, one example is we have Muslim prayer rooms in one of our high schools, right?
00:05:20.000 But there's no Christian prayer room.
00:05:21.000 There's no prayer room for Jewish students.
00:05:23.000 And I always talked about this.
00:05:25.000 And I was even called an Islamophobia by someone because I was talking about where's the equality like everyone talks about.
00:05:32.000 They can have their prayer rooms, but the Christians can't have theirs.
00:05:35.000 I mean, that's very odd, you know, and they're a fraction of it 1% in our community, you know.
00:05:41.000 And so it's like you're giving all these resources to them, but to all the other students who have these very faithful beliefs, you don't give them anything, you know.
00:05:51.000 And that's one big point I've been running on, too.
00:05:53.000 It's where is the voice for the Christian students, you know, because there isn't one.
00:05:57.000 Wow, that's a great point.
00:05:59.000 So critical race theory is growing in a lot of schools across the country.
00:06:03.000 Has it hit your local school district yet?
00:06:06.000 Is there rumblings of critical race theory happening?
00:06:10.000 Tell us about that.
00:06:11.000 There is.
00:06:12.000 So there's actually this curriculum called Lucy Cocklands.
00:06:16.000 It's this reading curriculum.
00:06:18.000 And one of the books actually talks about how all the white people get all the clean jobs and the black people get all the dirty jobs, you know, like mechanics or working in the grocery stores, but the white people get the lawyer jobs or that kind of thing.
00:06:32.000 And this is a book for kindergartners to third grade.
00:06:36.000 So they're reading this in classrooms.
00:06:38.000 And that really caused a big uproar too.
00:06:41.000 And so that was really interesting.
00:06:43.000 And people are really upset about that because we had one guy who's African-American speak at our most recent school board meeting.
00:06:51.000 And he said it offends him as a black person because it makes him feel like they're teaching the kids that they're victims when they're really not.
00:06:57.000 You know, it's all about what you choose to do in this country.
00:07:00.000 But they're teaching the kids at a young age that, oh, the system is stacked against you.
00:07:04.000 You know, and that's not good at all.
00:07:06.000 You know, it doesn't encourage any of these kids to aspire to be what they want to be if they're being told that, oh, you're going to get the dirty job and they're going to get the clean job.
00:07:14.000 So don't even try.
00:07:16.000 Yeah, absolutely.
00:07:18.000 I mean, that's just ridiculous.
00:07:19.000 So part of your, let's say you win, you'll be focused on hopefully rebalancing this nonsense of critical race theory in the schools.
00:07:29.000 Is that correct?
00:07:30.000 Yeah.
00:07:30.000 Yeah.
00:07:30.000 I mean, we got to really look through our curriculum.
00:07:33.000 And one big thing I want to plan is a committee full of parents and teachers who want to be involved and go through the curriculum and make sure that they're not teaching anything that, you know, isn't factual.
00:07:47.000 You know, I mean, there's a lot of things that are being taught in our classes that aren't factual.
00:07:50.000 And it's also how the teachers are teaching it, too.
00:07:53.000 Because, you know, say their curriculum may not say exactly what is apparent what's going on in the schools, but the teachers have their leanings.
00:08:02.000 So, you know, you may have a perfect vision of how the country was formed, right?
00:08:07.000 But if the teacher believes in the 1619 project or something, then they'll probably add in their own two cents of what's really going on in the country, what they think is going on.
00:08:17.000 And like, you know, we spend in my community, we spend about $4.5 million on curriculum and staff development.
00:08:22.000 every year, right?
00:08:24.000 Well, part of that is critical race theory.
00:08:26.000 They have breakout sessions that the teachers go to, and it talks about if you're white, listen, you have racism in you, so you got to find where it's at, you know, and that people reached out to me who are teachers saying, listen, our breakout sessions are talking about that we're racist, even if we don't acknowledge that we're racist, you know, and that we're spending $4 million on that.
00:08:46.000 I mean, it's crazy.
00:08:48.000 In a conservative area.
00:08:50.000 In the conservative area.
00:08:51.000 And it's actually a New York organization that's doing this.
00:08:54.000 So we have New York politics and New York values coming into our Texas community, right?
00:09:01.000 And that's a big problem.
00:09:02.000 It's like, where is the Texas values?
00:09:04.000 Who's fighting for our values, our conservative Christian values in our community?
00:09:07.000 Because no one is.
00:09:09.000 And the school board is just sitting there, you know, on autopilot.
00:09:13.000 You know, they let the superintendent do everything he wants, but, you know, they're not shooting up for our values.
00:09:18.000 And that's the problem that we're seeing right now.
00:09:22.000 That's so stunning.
00:09:23.000 So you wait, this is a New York organization, you said, that's coming into.
00:09:26.000 So what is the name of this organization?
00:09:28.000 I need to find it.
00:09:29.000 I don't know the exact organization name, but I know it's a New York company that teaches our teachers in the area about curriculum and staff development.
00:09:38.000 And part of that is critical race theory.
00:09:41.000 That's incredible.
00:09:42.000 So talk about some of the challenges you're facing as a young person running for office.
00:09:47.000 Are people taking you seriously?
00:09:50.000 Are people embracing you?
00:09:52.000 Or are people saying, sit down, kid, wait your turn?
00:09:55.000 It's been a mix of everything.
00:09:57.000 I've kind of been, I've kind of learned a lot during this process, you could say.
00:10:02.000 At first, I was actually reached out to by some in the Republican Party in my area to drop out.
00:10:08.000 They're like, listen, this drop out, get out of the race.
00:10:10.000 You're going to ruin the votes and everything.
00:10:12.000 And I'm like, if you, you do realize you're talking to it, because if you tell me no, I really want to get it that much more.
00:10:19.000 And so that's been one big aspect that's been kind of interesting.
00:10:23.000 And then it's constant.
00:10:24.000 The attacks are always, they said I was running illegally at one point.
00:10:28.000 And so they're trying to convince everyone in our community that I was not from Rockwell.
00:10:33.000 I voted illegally.
00:10:35.000 I'm the candidate that's against voter integrity, right?
00:10:38.000 Because that's a big hot topic in the conservative circles now is election integrity.
00:10:42.000 So they're trying to pit me as a person who doesn't have any integrity.
00:10:47.000 And so I had to squash that and I got my lawyers involved and we had to talk to the person who's head of elections in our area to show them that, yes, I'm eligible.
00:10:58.000 They said I'm liberal.
00:11:01.000 I am for co-ed bathrooms.
00:11:03.000 I mean, I'm getting the lists, you know, out there about me.
00:11:06.000 And it's all been squashed.
00:11:08.000 I mean, none of it's true, but it's funny the ways that they'll try to pit you if you're not part of their inner circle.
00:11:16.000 Because I'm fighting against the local Republican establishment in my community, and I'm not part of their group, and I'm an outsider, you could say.
00:11:27.000 And so they're doing all these different tactics to try to make me seem unpopular.
00:11:31.000 But the funny thing is, it's backfired because people like a young conservative running, who are people who are common sense, who have common sense and they are conservative.
00:11:39.000 They like the idea of young people standing up for their values and their community's values and representing that.
00:11:45.000 And I've gotten a lot of grassroots support.
00:11:48.000 I mean, people reach out to me all the time.
00:11:50.000 They call me and they're praying for me over the phone.
00:11:53.000 I mean, it's really, really cool.
00:11:54.000 So they can push off the attacks, but the people are really realizing, you know, someone who's genuine.
00:12:00.000 You know, that's extraordinary.
00:12:03.000 So, talk about some of your goals and ambitions for this project and your bigger picture goals.
00:12:10.000 If you're talking to hundreds of thousands of people right now, what do you want to see other people do in their school districts?
00:12:16.000 Where are you seeing the need?
00:12:18.000 And if you win, what's your vision for that position?
00:12:23.000 Well, my goal is to really inspire the conservatives in my community to run for office.
00:12:27.000 I mean, I was a young conservative in our schools, and we need a voice for our students who are in the school system right now.
00:12:34.000 You know, conservatives have left the education system, you know, overwhelmingly, you know, and we see it in college.
00:12:41.000 It's happening in our public school system too.
00:12:44.000 And people generally say, oh, go to go to private school, right?
00:12:48.000 Go to private school and they'll be fine.
00:12:49.000 But while we're leaving to go to private school, where you're forgetting about the public education system that we're all paying for, you know, and then you're teaching all the other kids who don't have the opportunity to go to private school all these terrible things about their country and they hate one another.
00:13:03.000 And so I want to make sure that the conservatives in our community and the communities around this country have a voice.
00:13:09.000 And so I want to encourage everyone who is eligible, 18 years or older, to run for office for those local school boards because they know what's going on.
00:13:17.000 That's the reality is they were recently in the school system.
00:13:20.000 They know what's being pushed.
00:13:22.000 And that's the perspective that most school boards don't have.
00:13:25.000 You know, my school, I'm the youngest person to ever run for a school board position here in Rockwell, ever.
00:13:30.000 So if I were to win, it would be history.
00:13:32.000 And that's something that's not represented at any of the school boards is having that young perspective, especially a conservative one too.
00:13:39.000 Usually if you're younger, you know, they think that you're liberal.
00:13:43.000 But if you have that young conservative perspective, that really is really, you could say, it's really encouraging to a lot of people, I think, you know.
00:13:53.000 Absolutely.
00:13:54.000 So how can people help you, Dalton?
00:13:57.000 How can people get behind you?
00:13:59.000 And, you know, we have a lot of listeners that are, I hope everyone's listening to this at your 22, you want to get your voice heard.
00:14:05.000 You want to take back, you know, the kind of educational system.
00:14:10.000 I hope some parents and young people are inspired by this.
00:14:12.000 And that's why I wanted to have you on the show.
00:14:14.000 You're a Turning Point USA leader, which we obviously are partial to.
00:14:19.000 And we want to see young people get into positions of leadership.
00:14:25.000 So how can people help you?
00:14:28.000 You can visit my Facebook page.
00:14:29.000 It's Dalton Tassett for Rockwell ISD School Board.
00:14:33.000 Or my website is Dalton Tasset for Rockwell ISD Schoolboard.com.
00:14:38.000 But I have a big Facebook following too.
00:14:39.000 So if you have any questions, just feel free to reach out on there.
00:14:43.000 And just, you know, I'm really open.
00:14:44.000 I'm very transparent.
00:14:45.000 So you can always send me a message and I can respond.
00:14:48.000 And if you want a yard design or anything else, when is your race?
00:14:52.000 Election day is May 1st.
00:14:54.000 So it's coming up in a couple days.
00:14:56.000 Wow.
00:14:57.000 Yeah.
00:14:58.000 So we just got out of early voting.
00:15:00.000 And so on Saturday is May 1st.
00:15:03.000 So we'll see how that goes.
00:15:05.000 I think it's going pretty good.
00:15:06.000 I mean, I also have a lot of people supporting me who are, you know, secret supporters too.
00:15:11.000 I always be getting at different restaurants, you know, and they're like, they come up to me, I voted for you.
00:15:16.000 Like, we can't tell you because our friends are voting against you, but we voted for you, you know, and so it's really interesting because I have two other opponents.
00:15:23.000 I have a guy named Frank who he's been involved in the community, a lot of like charity organizations.
00:15:29.000 I have one lady named Amy who's been involved in like local Republican politics.
00:15:33.000 But people don't really care for them too much, as I've been seeing a lot.
00:15:38.000 And so they'll silently vote for me.
00:15:39.000 So I don't know.
00:15:40.000 We'll see how it goes.
00:15:41.000 But I mean, I think it could be a big upset if I win.
00:15:44.000 That's for sure.
00:15:46.000 Well, we're going to be pulling and cheering for you.
00:15:47.000 So, Dalton, thank you so much for joining and good luck.
00:15:52.000 Thank you.
00:15:52.000 I appreciate it.
00:15:53.000 Yeah, so we need more leaders.
00:15:55.000 Thanks, man.
00:15:56.000 Thank you.
00:15:59.000 Thanks so much for listening, everybody.
