00:20:34.000And I'd be shocked if you haven't had this question before, but Romans 13 says, everyone must submit to governing authorities, for all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.
00:20:45.000So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.
00:20:51.000For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong.
00:20:57.000Would you like to live in fear without the authority?
00:21:50.000The answer is yes, and there are two examples that I'll give in the Old Testament.
00:21:54.000The first is the first book of Exodus, where Pharaoh says the Jews are multiplying too many.
00:21:59.000We need to throw babies into the river.
00:22:01.000The midwives to the Hebrews disobeyed the order, and they even lied to the Pharaoh, and God dealt with them well, and God was pleased, and the midwives said that we fear God.
00:22:10.000That's why we did not throw the babies into the river.
00:22:21.000They said, Daniel, you can't pray publicly anymore.
00:22:24.000And Daniel says, nope, that's not going to work.
00:22:26.000Daniel disobeyed, civilly disobeyed, opened up the window, and still prayed publicly at what ended up in the lion's den.
00:22:32.000And so those are the two examples there.
00:22:34.000I only give that as a caveat because nowhere in the scriptures does it say we must have unilateral total submission to tyranny, right?
00:22:42.000But even the Romans 13 argument falls apart because the founding fathers gave us a very simple workout, which is that the leaders and authorities are the people, the sovereign.
00:22:52.000So Romans 13 is actually directed to the lieutenant governor.
00:22:55.000It's directed to the mayor, and they must actually submit to our authority and our sovereignty.
