00:10:49.360 south carolina a scenic rural area in the foothills of the appalachian mountains this greenville county

00:10:55.600 south carolina location is a quiet out of the way place and it made a perfect hunting ground for 59

00:11:03.040 year old daniel prince prince working as a handyman had been employed by edna subtles to do some work

00:11:09.840 on her home a repair or two here or there and a relationship between them developed a friendship

00:11:15.920 that brought prince into her realm of trust an 80 year old retired businesswoman and the owner of

00:11:23.040 a1 freedom bail bonding edna was a fixture in the community vibrant and active she took care to

00:11:29.920 check up on and assist a number of elderly people in her community as well on this very morning she

00:11:35.520 was scheduled to sit with a homebound friend a friend whose family was counting on her that day

00:11:41.440 edna left her home that morning but never showed up at her intended destination

00:11:46.560 greenville county 911 what's the location of your emergency the thing is a suitor was supposed to

00:11:53.200 show up stay with my mom today and she's in her 80s and she didn't show up we come to our house

00:12:01.120 and we can't get nobody to the door or anything her name is edna buttle it's not like her she shows up

00:12:09.120 black clockwork that something's wrong in almost all jurisdictions there's an unspoken rule that a

00:12:16.160 competent adult is generally not considered missing until they've been out of contact for at least 24

00:12:21.920 hours very recently however the greenville county sheriff's office had decided to change that policy

00:12:28.640 initially from a sheriff's office standpoint our missing persons were reported by phone

00:13:13.040 warrant they entered the property inside they did not find her any evidence of foul play or any clues

00:13:19.840 as to her whereabouts her vehicle was not at the residence that vehicle a champagne colored jeep

00:13:26.000 grand cherokee would prove to be the starting point of suspicions that something terrible may have

00:13:32.000 befallen the woman miss subtles was a pretty well known in the northern part of this county

00:13:38.720 she was a bail bonding agent she was a tough lady street smart uh had a had a great reputation

00:13:46.320 here in our area uh she was certainly nobody's fool edna was gone the police put out alerts through

00:13:52.880 all the local media they described her vehicle gave its license and i'm reading an affidavit here on the

00:13:58.320 side guys and it's saying that she was 80 years old man look at this this is the this is actually

00:14:02.560 the affidavit right here from the fbi this ended up becoming a federal case guys but you guys can see

00:14:07.360 right here subtles an 80-year-old resident of traverse rest south carolina was reported missing

00:14:12.000 on august 28 2021 so and we'll go through this affidavit as well uh and in more detail but uh let's

00:14:19.040 keep going with the documentary plate number and warned that she could be in need of immediate medical

00:14:24.960 attention they could not have known that edna had already been killed and taken across a nearby

00:14:31.760 statewide it was seven days before the jeep was found by an officer of a local police department

00:14:37.440 on september 3rd in the parking lot of the best western hotel in the town of travelers rest the jeep

00:14:44.080 had been backed into a parking space concealing the license plate from anyone just driving through the

00:14:48.880 lot after determining that edna had not checked into the hotel members of the greenville county

00:14:54.880 sheriff's office scanned the hotel security footage for the day of the disappearance they

00:14:59.920 found what they were looking for footage of the jeep being driven into the parking lot

00:15:04.960 and the person who got out was definitely not edna subtles a man got out of look at that surveillance

00:15:12.800 camera's already showing it l the car and then began to wipe it down paying particular attention to the

00:15:20.400 inside of the front seat passenger's door and then the door frame and quarter panels he left and then

00:15:26.880 came back quickly to give it one more wipe down and then he walked away leaving the property any number

00:15:44.320 romantic rendezvous that ran a little long at this moment though investigators realized that any

00:15:50.400 pretense of subtle's willfully being out of touch with those that she knew was probably gone this missing

00:17:10.800 home in her champagne colored jeep grand cherokee security camera footage from a nearby antique store

00:17:16.960 showed the time of departure and initial direction of travel at 9 38 a.m a man matching the appearance

00:17:23.920 of the individual spotted leaving her jeep at the best western purchases a pack of strawberry yogurt

00:17:29.840 cups clear as day man that's a bitch at food lion the man uses the store rewards card and investigators

00:17:38.320 now had his name identifying him as daniel prince that's a bitch a minute later edna settles pulls

00:17:46.880 into the grocery store parking lot and parks her vehicle near prince's footage shows prince holding a

00:17:52.880 grocery bag and gesturing to subtle's he then goes to his own car and retrieves a small bag he gets

00:17:59.600 into the front passenger seat of subtle's jeep minutes later the jeep leaves the parking lot with

00:18:04.880 the pair inside four hours pass before there was any more video evidence then at 1 43 pm subtle's jeep

00:20:17.120 south carolina it would have been uh a state case what connection could he have with edna and how did

00:20:23.440 he come to meet with her on that fateful day a native of michigan prince had moved to the north

00:20:29.200 carolina mountains a few years before making his home in one of the many hollers in rutherford county

00:20:34.880 it's a friendly place but one where a person who might want privacy is apt to find plenty of it

00:20:41.200 prince and his wife kk settled in and he began working as a handyman often for elderly single

00:20:48.160 or widowed ladies he had a knack for the work and also for developing relationship with those women

00:20:54.320 gaining their trust and befriending them this is very common guys with serial killers and murderers

00:21:50.320 12 years of that sentence before being paroled his parole was terminated two years later and he moved out

00:22:02.800 videos and and i think that's another reason why this case ended up going federal guys you don't get
