The Glenn Beck Program - 9⧸12⧸17 - 'You're going to make it' (Max Lucado & Richard Paul Evans join Glenn)

00:00:00.000 The Blaze Radio Network, on demand.

00:00:07.760 Love. Courage. Truth.

00:00:11.780 There is nothing permanent except change.

00:00:16.060 It's a force that can't be stopped.

00:00:18.460 Status quo people, status quo businesses are going to be left in the dust.

00:00:24.040 Some businesses are going to get this.

00:00:27.040 Some businesses are going to lead the way.

00:00:30.000 Others are going to fall by the wayside because they don't get it or they're resistant

00:00:35.200 or they think that it's not going to be as big as everybody thinks it is.

00:00:40.280 There was a story in the Wall Street Journal yesterday.

00:00:42.820 The department store Nordstrom's is opening up a new store called Nordstrom Local.

00:00:48.660 It's an experiment.

00:00:49.660 It's kind of a hybrid between online retail and the traditional department store.

00:00:55.980 Now I grew up in the Pacific Northwest.

00:00:57.540 I grew up in the Seattle area.

00:00:58.860 Nordstrom's was the store.

00:01:02.460 They've done it right for, I don't even know, a hundred years.

00:01:06.960 Nordstrom Local is going to be much smaller.

00:01:09.900 They're going to have personal style consultants, a meeting area with a bar, areas to try on

00:01:15.680 merchandise, curbside pickup for online purchases.

00:01:18.960 The one thing they're not going to carry, clothes.

00:01:27.380 Wait, isn't Nordstrom's a clothing store?

00:01:30.920 Here's the thing.

00:01:31.780 Nordstrom realizes that the malls are dying.

00:01:34.900 People like to shop online.

00:01:36.220 But that doesn't mean that shopping in person is dead.

00:01:43.820 Nordstrom's is going to try something different.

00:01:46.900 They want to give people what they want.

00:01:48.680 Personal service, speed, convenience.

00:01:51.300 I read an article yesterday and said, you know, it may not work.

00:01:57.180 It's a total gamble.

00:02:00.120 But they know that what they're currently doing is not the future.

00:02:05.640 They know that they have to try something because a department store is a thing of the past.

00:02:14.380 And if you don't believe me, ask Sears or JCPenney.

00:02:20.780 The reason why I bring this up is it's not just stores.

00:02:24.360 The status quo is not working.

00:02:27.320 It's not working for the TV networks.

00:02:29.180 It's not moving, working for the movie business.

00:02:31.040 It's not going to be working for trucking.

00:02:33.680 It's not going to be working for schools.

00:02:36.280 It's already not working.

00:02:38.360 And the more we try to hold on to the university system, the worse our pain is going to get.

00:02:45.360 The old models are being turned upside down.

00:02:48.860 It's not working in Washington.

00:02:52.920 It's not Barack Obama's fault and it's not Donald Trump's fault.

00:02:56.720 The world is changing.

00:02:58.820 The D.C. swamp that President Trump wants to drain is much more of a tar pit.

00:03:07.080 Republicans and Democrats are content right now with where they are, who they are.

00:03:13.440 Because they don't think they have to change.

00:03:17.560 But in a free market system, you do have to change.

00:03:20.880 You have a problem with the status quo, when Chuck Schumer and Lindsey Graham are your party's flag bearers.

00:03:31.360 Yesterday, I was reading that Lindsey Graham is now leading the charge on change.

00:03:36.500 Lindsey Graham?

00:03:37.900 This is status quo thinking.

00:03:44.420 That is part of the reason Donald Trump became president.

00:03:47.380 But soon, the political version of Nordstrom's local will appear.

00:03:52.960 I don't know where.

00:03:54.240 But it is not necessarily going to be shiny, but it is going to be innovative.

00:03:58.960 And a lot of people will like it.

00:04:02.020 When you have Schumer and Lindsey Graham being flag bearers, they are not flag bearers.

00:04:06.820 Those are pall bearers.

00:04:08.240 When something new does appear, if it is truly from the free market, it will be better.

00:04:20.700 Because when it's truly from the people, when it is ground up,

00:04:24.660 it will be anchored in America's founding principles, because we know those principles actually work.

00:04:38.240 It's Tuesday, September 12th.

00:04:54.740 This is the Glenn Beck Program.

00:04:58.520 It was on 9-12 that John F. Kennedy said,

00:05:03.100 We choose to go to the moon and do those other things.

00:05:06.300 Not because they're easy, but because they are hard.

00:05:13.380 This is the America that we have always known.

00:05:19.600 Oh, I don't know what it is about this date, 9-12, but it's 9-12.

00:05:24.420 And there is something about this date

00:05:27.400 that stirs America into action.

00:05:33.120 It was the day after 9-11 that things changed, at least for me.

00:05:41.940 On 9-11, I was scared and freaked out of my mind.

00:05:47.040 On 9-12, I began to think, there's hope.

00:05:51.660 And I began to think that because of the people that just rose up.

00:05:56.400 The average person in America that had nothing to do with politics or companies or anything else.

00:06:03.940 Just my neighbors gave me hope.

00:06:07.300 The same thing that we're seeing now in Houston.

00:06:10.320 And the same things that we're seeing in Florida.

00:06:12.460 Yesterday, I was on my way home, and I heard a piece of audio.

00:06:22.700 Somebody sent this to me, and it is the Hymn to the Innocent.

00:06:28.300 And it's done by a high school philharmonic.

00:06:37.000 These kids that are playing in this philharmonic and this choir,

00:06:44.520 none of them were born on 9-11.

00:06:49.500 None of them were alive.

00:06:50.760 The only America that these kids know is the America that has guards at the airport.

00:07:20.760 The America that is at war, been at war their whole life.

00:07:33.960 When you and I were wondering whether America was going to survive,

00:07:40.080 every member of this philharmonic was not alive.

00:07:48.380 And look at what they're creating.

00:07:50.760 As you wonder about the next generation,

00:07:56.620 as you wonder about even our school system,

00:08:00.420 here is an amazing school called the American Heritage School.

00:08:05.760 That honestly, if I didn't own movie studios in Texas,

00:08:08.500 I would move my family so my kids could go to school there.

00:08:12.260 Yesterday, as I was driving home and I was listening to this,

00:08:19.000 I thought back on a conversation I had with a co-worker.

00:08:27.780 He was in eighth grade when the towers came down.

00:08:30.560 He said,

00:08:33.700 I feel different today.

00:08:37.140 He said,

00:08:37.760 I kind of feel bad.

00:08:38.580 This is,

00:08:39.000 it's weird.

00:08:39.920 He said,

00:08:40.600 this is the first year that it feels like that happened a long time ago.

00:08:46.320 And I kind of feel the same way.

00:08:54.740 It feels like it happened a long time ago.

00:08:58.280 Last year it didn't feel like that.

00:09:06.060 The year before it didn't feel like that.

00:09:07.960 What's changed?

00:09:08.960 May I suggest that one thing has changed.

00:09:20.920 The fundamental transformation of America.

00:09:25.920 During the Barack Obama administration,

00:09:27.900 he said,

00:09:28.660 we're just three days away from the fundamental transformation of America.

00:09:32.920 And nobody heard it.

00:09:34.240 We did.

00:09:35.240 Those of us on the right,

00:09:37.040 we heard it.

00:09:37.760 The left dismissed it.

00:09:42.760 But we heard it and we thought,

00:09:44.380 boy,

00:09:44.560 you restore something of value.

00:09:47.200 You don't go in and look at the Mona Lisa and say,

00:09:49.440 you know,

00:09:50.480 I'm going to have a fundamental transformation of that Mona Lisa thing.

00:09:54.780 You look at the Mona Lisa and say,

00:09:56.300 is there a way to restore this?

00:09:58.540 Is there a way to bring it back to its original vibrance?

00:10:03.240 We knew it was changing.

00:10:08.240 It was changing.

00:10:11.700 The left caught up with that during the last election and said,

00:10:16.200 what's going on?

00:10:16.940 How can this be?

00:10:18.260 Hillary Clinton is still saying,

00:10:19.800 how could this be?

00:10:20.600 And I told you this summer that we were at the end of the beginning and we now were at the beginning of the middle.

00:10:31.220 That the fundamental transformation of America has happened.

00:10:35.560 But it is only in our systems.

00:10:41.760 As I said a minute ago,

00:10:43.480 business is changing.

00:10:46.780 Television news is changing.

00:10:49.360 Politics is changing.

00:10:51.160 What we would have never accepted before.

00:10:54.640 Ever.

00:10:56.260 We now embrace.

00:10:57.840 We don't tolerate.

00:10:58.660 We embrace it.

00:11:01.900 Policies.

00:11:03.580 Principles.

00:11:05.020 Culture.

00:11:06.640 Business.

00:11:09.700 Finances.

00:11:11.280 Everything.

00:11:13.080 Is new and unstable.

00:11:19.320 Except for one thing.

00:11:21.160 We haven't been fundamentally transformed yet.

00:11:26.300 They're still working on that.

00:11:28.960 And when I say they,

00:11:29.860 I don't mean some,

00:11:30.700 you know,

00:11:31.780 star chamber,

00:11:33.100 deep,

00:11:33.580 dark secrets.

00:11:35.080 I mean,

00:11:37.000 what we're going through right now,

00:11:42.760 the collective,

00:11:45.320 it hasn't changed us yet.

00:11:47.680 there still is that 9-12 person inside each of us.

00:11:55.220 I'm on Glenn's Facebook page.

00:12:05.320 You can listen to this.

00:12:06.700 It's him to the innocent.

00:12:08.140 By an amazing,

00:12:09.720 high school,

00:12:10.700 Philharmonic.

00:12:11.300 It's crazy,

00:12:11.680 isn't it?

00:12:11.920 Amazing.

00:12:12.300 At the American Heritage School.

00:12:14.700 You can look at it on Glenn's Facebook page.

00:12:17.440 It's the post where she mentions,

00:12:18.900 uh,

00:12:20.260 Fertwangler.

00:12:21.680 That's how you can find it.

00:12:23.020 Just search for the word,

00:12:23.980 Fertwangler,

00:12:24.960 and you'll find it.

00:12:25.280 On his Facebook page.

00:12:28.000 Normal people doing amazing things.

00:12:31.040 That's really what America is all about.

00:12:37.480 Normal people doing amazing things.

00:12:41.300 There is one story about 9-11 that I have only heard in bits and pieces,

00:12:47.080 but there's a new documentary out,

00:12:48.920 the untold tale of the 9-11 resilience.

00:12:53.200 Here's a clip.

00:12:53.980 They showed me,

00:12:54.840 you know,

00:12:55.120 when American people need to come together and fall together,

00:12:57.420 they will do it.

00:12:58.160 I do feel a way honored that I was a part of it.

00:13:02.900 It was the greatest thing I ever did with my life.

00:13:05.300 The greatest day that I've ever seen in all my boating.

00:13:08.360 I mean,

00:13:08.940 my life on the water.

00:13:11.340 I believe somebody has all the heroes in them.

00:13:14.000 You gotta look in.

00:13:15.500 And it's in there.

00:13:17.020 It'll come out.

00:13:18.200 If need to be.

00:13:19.280 I have one theory in life.

00:13:20.920 I never want to say the word I should have.

00:13:25.300 If I do it and I fail,

00:13:27.260 I tried.

00:13:28.960 If I do it and I succeed,

00:13:31.180 better for me.

00:13:33.320 And I tell my children the same thing.

00:13:35.780 Never go through life saying you should have.

00:13:38.460 If you want to do something,

00:13:40.500 you do it.

00:13:41.740 This is an amazing documentary because that,

00:13:45.780 what he just said is the American spirit.

00:13:48.660 If that is ever snuffed,

00:13:50.420 then we are done.

00:13:52.480 But never say I should have.

00:13:56.840 Do it.

00:13:58.240 If you fail,

00:13:59.360 you fail.

00:14:00.620 But almost everything in our society,

00:14:04.220 at least from the old system,

00:14:06.760 is trying to stop us from doing that.

00:14:09.460 Stop you from thinking that you have the power to change politics.

00:14:13.980 Stop you from thinking that you could pull away from the Democrats or the Republicans.

00:14:18.440 Stop you from believing that you have an idea that is worth something.

00:14:23.400 So you can start your own business.

00:14:25.560 You can just go out on your own.

00:14:27.700 Although technology and the way the world is moving is telling you a different story.

00:14:33.820 And it is a story that is,

00:14:38.320 it is the story of the West.

00:14:44.260 We're not a collective.

00:14:46.580 We are individuals.

00:14:48.320 And in our greatest hours,

00:14:50.820 we don't come together

00:14:56.080 and as a collective,

00:15:01.340 because we've been told,

00:15:02.500 we come together

00:15:03.940 as individuals

00:15:06.300 privately.

00:15:07.700 And then what we do

00:15:09.680 is multiplied

00:15:12.360 by all these other people

00:15:13.980 who have the same

00:15:15.640 drive,

00:15:16.960 the same feeling.

00:15:18.340 It is

00:15:19.000 the Adam Smith

00:15:20.420 invisible hand.

00:15:22.080 And that invisible hand

00:15:24.300 was evident

00:15:25.960 on 9-11.

00:15:27.960 So many miraculous things happened.

00:15:31.280 But the one we don't know

00:15:33.320 is how the

00:15:34.660 actual

00:15:36.000 U.S. Navy

00:15:38.240 behaved.

00:15:39.460 And I don't mean the one

00:15:40.620 that have the big gray ships.

00:15:42.420 I mean

00:15:42.900 the Citizens

00:15:44.560 Navy.

00:15:46.060 The Citizens

00:15:47.220 Brigade.

00:15:48.020 It wasn't the ferries

00:15:51.000 that brought everybody

00:15:52.200 across the water

00:15:53.420 on 9-11.

00:15:54.980 They were citizens.

00:15:57.120 Here's Tom Hanks.

00:15:58.220 The great boat lift

00:15:59.660 of 9-11

00:16:00.320 became the largest

00:16:01.360 sea evacuation

00:16:02.300 in history.

00:16:04.080 Larger than the

00:16:05.200 evacuation of Dunkirk

00:16:06.500 in World War II,

00:16:08.140 where 339,000

00:16:10.060 British and French

00:16:10.880 soldiers

00:16:11.260 were rescued

00:16:12.420 over the course

00:16:13.240 of nine days.

00:16:15.380 On 9-11,

00:16:15.940 nearly 500,000

00:16:18.300 civilians

00:16:18.900 were rescued

00:16:20.080 from Manhattan

00:16:20.780 by boat.

00:16:22.460 It took less

00:16:23.340 than nine hours.

00:16:31.000 It's an amazing story.

00:16:32.460 Well worth your 12 minutes

00:16:33.940 on YouTube

00:16:34.680 today.

00:16:35.680 It's called

00:16:36.260 Boat Lift,

00:16:36.920 an untold tale

00:16:37.820 of 9-11 resilience.

00:16:39.520 It's narrated by Tom Hanks

00:16:40.560 and put out by

00:16:40.980 the Center for National Policy.

00:16:43.440 We just tweeted it

00:16:44.180 from

00:16:44.500 atworldofstew.

00:16:45.360 You can link

00:16:45.960 to it there.

00:16:48.200 Children born on 9-11

00:16:49.780 are now old enough

00:16:50.960 to get their

00:16:51.580 driver's license.

00:16:52.440 That blows my mind.

00:16:54.080 You were born

00:16:54.820 on 9-11.

00:16:56.060 Yesterday,

00:16:57.000 you could officially

00:16:57.840 get your driver's license.

00:17:00.780 The world

00:17:01.760 has changed.

00:17:03.140 It always does.

00:17:04.020 But some things

00:17:04.980 remain the same.

00:17:06.760 And that is,

00:17:07.720 there's a next generation

00:17:09.020 that believes

00:17:09.940 there's a next generation

00:17:11.080 right behind us

00:17:11.960 that isn't tired

00:17:13.280 and feeling

00:17:14.400 worn out.

00:17:16.160 They're ready.

00:17:18.660 Another thing

00:17:19.400 that changes

00:17:19.840 is our need

00:17:21.340 for emergency

00:17:22.320 preparedness.

00:17:24.200 Our friends

00:17:24.940 in Houston,

00:17:25.700 our friends

00:17:26.040 in Florida

00:17:26.680 know this,

00:17:27.620 coming face-to-face

00:17:28.720 with hurricanes.

00:17:29.460 I trust

00:17:31.400 my Patriot Supply,

00:17:32.860 our sponsor,

00:17:33.740 for my food storage.

00:17:36.220 Right now,

00:17:36.980 they have 70 servings

00:17:38.220 of survival food

00:17:39.040 for only $67,

00:17:40.940 less than a dollar

00:17:41.680 per serving.

00:17:42.440 That's breakfast,

00:17:43.040 lunch,

00:17:43.200 and dinner.

00:17:43.800 Healthy food

00:17:44.400 that lasts

00:17:44.760 for 25 years.

00:17:46.680 You know,

00:17:47.020 the survival food

00:17:47.720 thing hasn't changed.

00:17:48.920 My grandparents

00:17:49.640 did it in the

00:17:50.300 Great Depression.

00:17:50.900 It was called

00:17:51.200 canning.

00:17:52.220 And we used

00:17:52.720 to do it,

00:17:53.540 when I was growing up,

00:17:54.920 we would do it

00:17:55.440 with my grandmother

00:17:56.080 and we would do it

00:17:56.800 with my aunt

00:17:57.440 and we would do it

00:17:58.000 with my mother.

00:17:59.560 And we,

00:18:00.600 as kids, 0.99

00:18:01.260 would have a garbage 0.88

00:18:02.360 can full of beans

00:18:03.600 and we would

00:18:05.000 get them ready

00:18:06.940 and then mom

00:18:08.000 would put them

00:18:08.380 in the canner

00:18:08.920 and we'd have beans

00:18:10.500 for a year.

00:18:12.200 Things have changed.

00:18:13.180 You may not be doing

00:18:13.940 it that way anymore,

00:18:14.780 but now you can do it

00:18:16.000 with my Patriot Supply.

00:18:17.940 Go to preparewithglenn.com.

00:18:19.660 A prepared America

00:18:20.500 is a strong America

00:18:21.860 and that's Patriot Supply's

00:18:23.280 mission.

00:18:24.480 A strong America.

00:18:25.540 Call 800-977-0542.

00:18:29.020 It's 800-977-0542

00:18:32.000 or preparewithglenn.com.

00:18:36.800 Glenn Beck.

00:18:38.200 We choose to go

00:18:54.000 to the moon

00:18:54.660 in this decade

00:18:55.560 and do the other thing.

00:18:57.200 Not because they are easy,

00:18:59.160 but because they are hard.

00:19:01.040 It's amazing

00:19:01.900 that that happened

00:19:02.920 on 9-12

00:19:03.860 and I didn't know it.

00:19:05.000 9-12 is such

00:19:05.940 an important date

00:19:06.700 in my life.

00:19:07.460 and I think

00:19:10.700 the countries

00:19:11.360 and here is

00:19:13.600 John F. Kennedy

00:19:14.420 saying we're going

00:19:15.700 to go to the moon

00:19:16.280 at Rice University

00:19:17.320 and he said that

00:19:20.760 on September 12th.

00:19:22.800 9-12.

00:19:24.520 The day to me

00:19:25.900 that we

00:19:27.080 had a

00:19:28.520 moon shot

00:19:29.900 ourselves.

00:19:30.900 We chose

00:19:32.240 to come together

00:19:33.780 and to

00:19:35.500 do the hard things.

00:19:36.620 Now we have

00:19:37.220 gotten lost.

00:19:39.120 Quite honestly,

00:19:40.020 we didn't.

00:19:40.700 I don't think

00:19:40.920 we ever made it.

00:19:41.800 We may have made it

00:19:42.640 to the moon,

00:19:43.080 but I don't think

00:19:43.540 we ever made it back.

00:19:44.400 I think we've got

00:19:44.860 a few people trapped

00:19:45.560 on the moon right now

00:19:46.300 when it comes to

00:19:47.560 our moon shot

00:19:48.520 of this decade,

00:19:50.440 as he said.

00:19:51.120 I'm afraid

00:19:52.540 tragedy is just

00:19:53.940 a drug

00:19:54.380 at this point.

00:19:56.020 These things

00:19:56.600 happen and

00:19:57.460 they give you

00:19:58.000 that feeling

00:19:58.520 for a while

00:19:59.280 and mandate

00:19:59.980 seems to go away.

00:20:01.360 You know what

00:20:01.900 is a drug?

00:20:03.120 You know what

00:20:03.500 is a drug?

00:20:05.040 USA,

00:20:05.740 USA,

00:20:06.700 USA.

00:20:08.200 That was

00:20:08.860 the drug

00:20:09.340 because that's

00:20:10.280 not a solution.

00:20:11.060 That's not a solution

00:20:11.820 just like it wasn't

00:20:12.500 when George Bush

00:20:13.040 said,

00:20:13.300 you know what,

00:20:13.580 you got to do

00:20:13.960 your part?

00:20:14.820 Go shopping.

00:20:15.900 That's not a solution.

00:20:16.840 Those two things,

00:20:19.060 nationalism,

00:20:19.820 shopping,

00:20:20.220 and everything else,

00:20:20.980 those are drugs,

00:20:22.180 but there are things

00:20:23.500 that we can do

00:20:24.560 that are not drugs

00:20:25.520 that actually

00:20:26.800 change things.

00:20:28.120 More next.

00:20:31.120 Glenn Beck.

00:20:46.840 This is the

00:20:48.500 Glenn Beck Program.

00:20:52.420 I remember

00:20:53.280 the day my life

00:20:55.920 changed.

00:20:56.620 The day my life

00:20:57.400 changed happened

00:20:58.520 in a

00:20:59.200 in a

00:21:00.380 cafeteria

00:21:02.260 at Yale

00:21:03.920 University

00:21:04.500 and the guy

00:21:05.800 sitting across

00:21:06.380 the table

00:21:06.900 was Wayne Meeks.

00:21:10.620 He doesn't

00:21:11.420 even know this,

00:21:12.240 but he changed

00:21:13.060 my life.

00:21:13.520 He changed

00:21:13.820 the course

00:21:14.200 of my life.

00:21:14.720 I was 30

00:21:17.620 years old.

00:21:19.020 I was

00:21:19.660 early in the

00:21:21.600 recovery of my

00:21:22.360 alcoholism.

00:21:23.200 The day I

00:21:23.700 started school

00:21:24.320 literally was the

00:21:25.380 day I asked

00:21:26.320 for a divorce.

00:21:29.880 And

00:21:30.400 and I was

00:21:32.540 just searching.

00:21:33.100 I had been

00:21:33.320 searching for

00:21:33.880 answers and

00:21:35.100 I had gotten

00:21:36.540 into Yale

00:21:37.120 University and

00:21:38.060 and I

00:21:40.000 couldn't believe

00:21:40.760 it because I

00:21:42.160 when I sent

00:21:42.600 for my

00:21:42.940 transcripts,

00:21:43.700 I thought I

00:21:44.360 was like a

00:21:44.900 C or D

00:21:45.700 student.

00:21:47.000 And I

00:21:47.560 wasn't.

00:21:47.900 I was a

00:21:48.280 straight A

00:21:48.600 student.

00:21:50.180 And that's

00:21:50.840 not the

00:21:51.120 that wasn't

00:21:51.560 my memory

00:21:52.000 at all.

00:21:52.380 My memory

00:21:52.840 had so

00:21:53.300 decayed and

00:21:54.920 had so

00:21:55.600 been I

00:21:56.520 had been so

00:21:57.020 down on

00:21:57.780 myself over

00:21:59.060 the years

00:21:59.660 that I

00:22:00.340 really had

00:22:01.160 convinced

00:22:01.540 myself that

00:22:02.140 I was pretty 1.00

00:22:02.680 stupid and 1.00

00:22:03.420 always had 1.00

00:22:03.860 been.

00:22:06.520 And so

00:22:07.060 when I put

00:22:07.320 my transcripts

00:22:08.280 together and

00:22:08.800 I, you know,

00:22:10.400 put my package

00:22:11.260 together and

00:22:11.820 sent it in

00:22:12.320 for special

00:22:13.320 student status

00:22:14.320 at Yale,

00:22:14.960 I really

00:22:16.460 didn't expect

00:22:16.980 to get in.

00:22:19.020 Then when I

00:22:19.640 did get in,

00:22:20.960 oof, I was

00:22:22.420 like, I don't

00:22:22.900 think I can

00:22:23.480 do this.

00:22:26.820 And my

00:22:27.340 professor said

00:22:27.920 to me one

00:22:28.360 day, he

00:22:28.720 said, Mr.

00:22:30.280 Beck, after I

00:22:30.880 had questioned

00:22:31.300 him on

00:22:31.640 something, he

00:22:32.020 said, can I

00:22:33.400 see you after

00:22:33.900 class?

00:22:35.280 I said, yes,

00:22:36.040 sir.

00:22:37.460 After class, he

00:22:38.300 said, come have

00:22:38.780 lunch with me.

00:22:39.320 So we

00:22:40.540 sat in this

00:22:40.920 cafeteria, this

00:22:42.220 Ivy League

00:22:43.360 hallowed halls,

00:22:45.380 oak paneled

00:22:46.340 room.

00:22:49.380 And he

00:22:49.860 said, what are

00:22:50.280 you doing

00:22:51.060 here?

00:22:51.540 And I said, I'm

00:22:52.040 just looking for

00:22:52.520 answers.

00:22:52.940 I don't, I

00:22:53.520 don't have, I

00:22:54.560 have never

00:22:54.940 spent any time

00:22:55.760 in my life

00:22:56.280 trying to

00:22:56.640 figure things

00:22:57.120 out.

00:22:57.400 And I

00:22:57.720 didn't, I

00:22:58.180 realized that

00:22:58.800 I don't know

00:22:59.180 anything.

00:23:00.480 And I'm

00:23:01.020 really looking

00:23:01.560 for answers.

00:23:02.140 And he said,

00:23:02.400 what are you

00:23:02.660 reading?

00:23:03.060 And I told

00:23:03.540 him.

00:23:04.860 And he

00:23:05.340 said, who's

00:23:05.920 guiding you

00:23:06.680 through that?

00:23:07.260 And I

00:23:07.520 said, either

00:23:08.780 Mr. Barnes

00:23:09.420 or Mr.

00:23:10.020 Noble, I'm

00:23:10.500 not sure

00:23:11.020 which, but

00:23:11.800 that's, I'm

00:23:13.680 just going

00:23:14.100 into the

00:23:14.520 bookstore.

00:23:15.820 And I'm

00:23:16.360 looking for

00:23:16.700 people who

00:23:17.100 disagree with

00:23:17.640 each other.

00:23:18.240 And I'm

00:23:18.820 comparing and

00:23:19.480 contrasting.

00:23:20.800 He said, you're

00:23:21.480 doing that on

00:23:21.880 your own?

00:23:22.580 I said, yes.

00:23:23.360 And I'm so

00:23:24.420 confused.

00:23:24.900 I don't even

00:23:25.400 know.

00:23:25.960 I don't, I

00:23:26.880 just, he

00:23:29.120 reached across

00:23:29.700 the table as I

00:23:30.480 was in the

00:23:30.820 middle of that.

00:23:31.400 My hand was

00:23:32.100 down on the

00:23:33.160 cafeteria table.

00:23:35.560 And he

00:23:36.040 reached over and

00:23:36.520 he put his

00:23:36.840 hand on top of

00:23:37.540 mine.

00:23:37.880 And he

00:23:38.760 said, listen

00:23:40.300 to me, you

00:23:42.860 know, you

00:23:43.320 belong here,

00:23:44.040 right?

00:23:44.840 You know, you're

00:23:45.800 smart enough to

00:23:46.660 be here.

00:23:49.840 I think I

00:23:50.760 answered yes, but

00:23:51.520 the answer in my

00:23:52.260 head was no.

00:23:56.060 Him saying

00:23:56.980 that to me

00:23:57.740 gave me the

00:23:58.720 confidence to

00:24:00.320 know it's

00:24:02.400 going to be

00:24:02.640 okay.

00:24:06.560 Sometimes one

00:24:07.540 conversation can

00:24:08.500 change the

00:24:09.060 course of so

00:24:09.960 much.

00:24:13.160 There was a

00:24:13.860 caller to

00:24:16.540 this program.

00:24:17.780 He didn't

00:24:18.460 know me.

00:24:19.060 We had never

00:24:19.480 met.

00:24:20.360 I had never

00:24:20.800 talked to him

00:24:21.380 before.

00:24:21.740 He had never

00:24:22.060 talked to me.

00:24:23.340 And yet his

00:24:24.800 phone call

00:24:25.800 changed the

00:24:26.540 course of my

00:24:27.460 life.

00:24:27.900 he called

00:24:28.600 in to tell

00:24:29.900 me what he

00:24:30.720 believed.

00:24:32.220 And what he

00:24:33.060 believed was

00:24:34.160 that we were

00:24:34.720 all alone.

00:24:36.060 The problem

00:24:36.520 is today, and

00:24:37.600 I believe this,

00:24:38.580 I believe that

00:24:39.520 we're outnumbered

00:24:40.880 now.

00:24:41.320 I don't believe

00:24:41.980 I know you

00:24:43.740 say that, and I

00:24:44.440 knew you were

00:24:44.900 going to get

00:24:45.200 mad at me.

00:24:46.240 I knew it.

00:24:47.220 We're not

00:24:48.120 outnumbered.

00:24:49.880 We are not

00:24:51.180 outnumbered.

00:24:52.540 You look at

00:24:53.120 the phone.

00:24:54.900 Look, here's

00:24:55.440 the thing.

00:24:56.140 Ed, you give

00:24:57.560 me a month to

00:24:58.280 prove this.

00:24:59.200 I am going to

00:24:59.860 find a way to

00:25:00.440 prove this to

00:25:01.080 you.

00:25:01.920 You know

00:25:02.420 what, Stu?

00:25:03.240 I'm going to

00:25:03.700 give you, Ed,

00:25:06.000 you hang on the

00:25:06.540 phone.

00:25:06.740 I want to get

00:25:07.060 a phone number

00:25:07.500 from you.

00:25:08.300 Okay?

00:25:09.140 Thank you for

00:25:09.900 calling, and Ed,

00:25:10.880 you are the

00:25:11.360 probably, you

00:25:11.960 could be the

00:25:13.320 most important

00:25:14.140 caller that I

00:25:14.800 have ever

00:25:15.260 received in my

00:25:16.280 career.

00:25:16.980 Please remember

00:25:17.780 the first sentence

00:25:18.560 I said when I

00:25:19.240 called on the

00:25:19.720 phone.

00:25:20.720 I understand, and

00:25:22.380 I appreciate, Ed,

00:25:23.620 that, I just

00:25:24.860 appreciate it, and

00:25:25.680 you may be the

00:25:26.980 most important

00:25:27.700 person in my

00:25:28.320 life, because you

00:25:28.960 may have changed

00:25:29.860 and finally given

00:25:30.640 me the impetus to

00:25:32.640 actually find the

00:25:33.900 way to prove it

00:25:34.560 to you.

00:25:36.320 9-11 caused

00:25:37.960 so much heartbreak

00:25:38.880 in America, but it

00:25:40.480 didn't harden our

00:25:41.940 hearts.

00:25:43.400 When the wreckage

00:25:44.660 settled after

00:25:46.420 9-11, Americans

00:25:48.300 everywhere united.

00:25:49.760 We didn't even

00:25:50.180 know what to do,

00:25:50.940 but we knew what

00:25:55.240 we had was worth

00:25:56.480 fighting for, but we

00:25:58.360 weren't given any

00:25:59.480 real specific

00:26:00.420 direction except go

00:26:01.560 shopping.

00:26:04.260 I believe, I still

00:26:06.400 believe in who we

00:26:08.240 are at our core.

00:26:09.200 We are the people

00:26:11.860 that we were on

00:26:12.700 9-12.

00:26:14.080 We are the people

00:26:15.240 of Hurricane

00:26:16.960 Harvey, people who

00:26:19.440 are thirsty.

00:26:23.600 They are thirsty to

00:26:25.180 be involved to help

00:26:26.300 their fellow man.

00:26:28.420 So Ed calls me, and

00:26:31.400 he did change the

00:26:33.020 course of my life.

00:26:33.920 I knew who we

00:26:37.940 were, and it was

00:26:39.520 that call that gave

00:26:40.520 birth to the 9-12

00:26:41.560 project.

00:26:42.660 It was a grassroots

00:26:43.980 initiative that spread

00:26:45.780 like wildfire.

00:26:47.260 We had six months

00:26:51.360 before 9-12, we had

00:26:53.140 a watch party, if

00:26:55.420 you will.

00:26:55.960 I asked everybody,

00:26:56.760 watch at five o'clock,

00:26:57.940 and people gathered

00:26:58.760 all over the country.

00:27:00.760 Do you remember

00:27:01.320 watching it together?

00:27:04.240 No matter where you

00:27:05.440 are, from our studio

00:27:06.600 audience here in

00:27:07.460 Midtown Manhattan, to

00:27:09.060 the sidewalks outside, to

00:27:11.480 the people all over the

00:27:13.020 country, just a few

00:27:14.820 blocks away in Times

00:27:16.340 Square, where there

00:27:18.140 are people at viewing

00:27:18.980 parties.

00:27:19.780 They're holding

00:27:20.200 regular viewing parties,

00:27:22.560 started with people and

00:27:23.740 by people, just regular

00:27:25.140 people like you, like

00:27:25.980 Joyce in Melbourne,

00:27:26.960 Florida, whose party

00:27:28.360 grew so large that she

00:27:29.840 moved it from her

00:27:31.240 restaurant to the

00:27:32.300 parking lot outside, to

00:27:34.380 the gatherings in Noah's

00:27:35.620 in South Jordan, Utah,

00:27:37.600 to homes in Golden

00:27:38.940 Valley, Arizona, and

00:27:40.120 Brewer, Maine, to the

00:27:41.400 garage bar in Columbus,

00:27:43.180 Ohio, and virtually every

00:27:44.580 small town and big city

00:27:45.920 in between in this great

00:27:47.060 nation.

00:27:47.880 There are people

00:27:48.340 gathering in ranches in

00:27:49.540 Texas, where some

00:27:50.760 familiar faces have

00:27:52.060 gathered to watch the

00:27:53.260 show, to military bases

00:27:54.880 in Iraq, where real

00:27:56.340 heroes have gathered.

00:27:58.820 I don't think I've seen

00:28:06.540 those images until just

00:28:07.640 now, since that day.

00:28:12.560 Amazing people, amazing

00:28:15.640 people who were not just

00:28:18.040 watching a television show.

00:28:21.580 They came together because

00:28:23.360 they believed in a few

00:28:25.600 things, the nine

00:28:28.120 principles and the twelve

00:28:29.260 values, that America is

00:28:31.620 good, that there is a

00:28:34.220 God, that we have to try

00:28:37.040 to be more honest than we

00:28:38.520 were yesterday, that our

00:28:40.240 families are sacred, and my

00:28:42.600 spouse and my family, we are

00:28:45.460 the ultimate authority, not

00:28:46.860 the government, and if you

00:28:48.740 break the law, you have to

00:28:50.120 pay the penalty, and justice

00:28:51.740 is blind, and no one is

00:28:53.540 above that.

00:28:56.300 I do have a God-given

00:28:57.660 right to life, liberty, and

00:28:59.100 the pursuit of happiness, but

00:29:00.820 there's no guarantee of

00:29:02.320 equal results, and I've

00:29:05.240 worked hard for what I

00:29:06.320 have, and I will share it

00:29:09.000 with who I want to, and the

00:29:10.440 government can't force me to

00:29:11.880 be charitable, and it's not

00:29:14.500 un-American for me to disagree

00:29:15.860 with authority or share my

00:29:17.240 personal opinion, and the

00:29:19.700 government works for me, I

00:29:20.840 don't answer to them, they 0.99

00:29:22.560 answer to me.

00:29:27.140 Those were the principles,

00:29:29.620 they're still true today.

00:29:33.280 The values of honesty, and

00:29:35.900 reverence, and hope, and

00:29:37.840 thrift, and humility, and

00:29:39.380 charity, sincerity, moderation,

00:29:43.300 hard work, courage, personal

00:29:46.380 responsibility, and gratitude.

00:29:50.840 It might sound like a big

00:29:56.100 ask to a lot of people just

00:29:57.720 to live those things, but

00:29:59.500 people rise to the level of

00:30:01.080 their preparedness and their

00:30:02.400 knowledge, they don't rise to

00:30:04.660 the level of their

00:30:05.360 expectations.

00:30:06.700 The reason why people today

00:30:08.240 are rising up to help the

00:30:09.620 people in the flood, and

00:30:10.820 they're just giving

00:30:11.840 everything, is because that's

00:30:13.080 how they were raised and

00:30:14.320 prepared by parents.

00:30:15.600 I just wanted to prove that

00:30:19.520 to Ed, and to myself, that

00:30:21.940 there was a majority of

00:30:22.980 Americans that care enough 0.99

00:30:24.340 about their country to do

00:30:25.380 their homework.

00:30:28.420 Television is a great medium.

00:30:33.880 It's like anything in the free

00:30:35.020 market, it can be used for good

00:30:36.220 or it can be used for evil.

00:30:37.900 A lot of people think I used it

00:30:39.220 for evil.

00:30:40.240 I tried so hard to use it for

00:30:41.640 good.

00:30:47.600 Television can be really

00:30:48.700 isolating.

00:30:52.200 And on August 28th, 2010, I

00:30:54.820 invited everybody to join me on

00:30:56.380 the mall in Washington, D.C.

00:30:58.320 I really had no expectation.

00:31:00.180 I had no idea how many people

00:31:01.360 would show up.

00:31:02.020 We didn't have unions and

00:31:04.520 organizers all over the country

00:31:06.520 that were bringing people in.

00:31:08.540 It was just up to you and your

00:31:10.440 local church or whatever you

00:31:12.100 wanted to do.

00:31:14.120 And to my shock,

00:31:16.840 500,000 people showed up in

00:31:19.180 Washington, D.C.

00:31:21.140 This day is a day that we can

00:31:24.580 start the heart of America again.

00:31:27.100 And it has nothing to do with

00:31:29.480 politics.

00:31:30.520 It has everything to do with God.

00:31:33.500 Everything turning our face back

00:31:35.780 to the values and the principles

00:31:37.600 that made us great.

00:31:39.200 But this was not just an American

00:31:42.540 thing.

00:31:43.660 And it wasn't just about honor.

00:31:46.560 What was coming required us to

00:31:50.540 also have courage.

00:31:52.960 And so the next year, when we were

00:31:55.420 starting a network, our very first

00:31:57.960 internet broadcast was international.

00:32:03.240 Quite a feat.

00:32:04.400 It was from Israel, which we thought

00:32:08.560 might turn into a war zone.

00:32:12.420 Just because of the things we had

00:32:14.320 to say there.

00:32:16.000 I ask you to turn your eyes to

00:32:19.460 Israel and restore courage.

00:32:23.620 I have been asked by the press over

00:32:25.960 and over again, what is it you think

00:32:29.020 you can teach Israel about courage?

00:32:32.880 My answer is simple.

00:32:35.640 Nothing.

00:32:42.780 They asked me then, they asked me then,

00:32:46.360 so then why would you come to Israel?

00:32:49.360 Because I say, in Israel, you see

00:32:55.100 courage.

00:32:58.000 Americans are resilient.

00:33:00.760 But is, but only if we're prepared.

00:33:05.500 We're made from some, from tough stock,

00:33:08.120 man.

00:33:08.880 Really tough.

00:33:10.060 We crossed the oceans to get here.

00:33:13.120 We were broke.

00:33:14.360 We were penniless.

00:33:15.320 We crossed the mountains with oxen.

00:33:17.360 Then, 2012, by 2012, we had gone

00:33:24.040 through a lot, 11 years of labor.

00:33:29.820 And there was one more piece to put

00:33:31.380 together, if we were going to make it.

00:33:33.860 It was honor, courage, but most

00:33:36.080 importantly, it was love.

00:33:39.060 From the heart of Texas, it was time

00:33:41.680 to remind everybody that those

00:33:45.740 unbreakable values and principles

00:33:49.240 of the 9-12 project

00:33:51.080 from Cowboy Stadium.

00:33:52.720 There are two kinds of Americans, and

00:33:56.680 they're not Democrats and Republicans.

00:34:00.820 They're not God-fearing and God-doubting.

00:34:05.860 They're not black and white.

00:34:09.200 They're bigger than that.

00:34:11.680 Much bigger.

00:34:12.580 There are two kinds of Americans.

00:34:17.300 Those who like to be pushed,

00:34:20.840 and those who push themselves.

00:34:25.160 Those who see our problems and refuse

00:34:28.920 to see our blessings.

00:34:33.040 Close your eyes for a second and just

00:34:34.820 imagine that we are in an oak-paneled room.

00:34:38.460 And that you are saying to me the same

00:34:44.660 thing that you probably said to your

00:34:45.820 wife or husband last night or in the

00:34:47.700 last 24 hours.

00:34:48.840 I don't know.

00:34:49.360 I don't have any.

00:34:50.460 I don't know.

00:34:51.860 I don't know how we're going to make it.

00:34:53.160 I don't know.

00:34:57.580 Let me reach across and put my hand on

00:34:59.360 top of yours and say,

00:35:01.380 you know you belong here, right?

00:35:06.320 You know you're in the right place.

00:35:13.960 Even if you don't believe it yet yourself.

00:35:17.280 Believe me, you're going to make it.

00:35:26.460 Tonight on TheBlaze.com slash TV,

00:35:28.920 we will have a call-in show.

00:35:30.980 We're kind of talking about 9-12.

00:35:32.320 We're going to do our best to make Glenn cry again.

00:35:34.220 No, actually, I want to hear your,

00:35:36.620 because I have never heard your side

00:35:38.540 of the story of the 9-12 project.

00:35:40.300 Yeah, we'll show that coming up.

00:35:42.120 And also, we'll try to make you cry by

00:35:43.820 showing videos of you looking really thin

00:35:45.340 from several years ago.

00:35:46.500 Thank you.

00:35:47.300 That's already doing that.

00:35:50.480 property loss from one home break-in

00:37:06.700 It's a strange day.

00:37:32.580 We have Max Lucado in the wings.

00:37:34.240 He's going to be with us in just a second

00:37:36.100 on how to survive chaos in the world.

00:37:38.940 And strangely,

00:37:39.640 we seem to have Hillary Clinton. 1.00

00:37:42.400 And I don't know if it's the lighting

00:37:45.200 or what it is,

00:37:46.040 but she looks better here on TV and radio

00:37:48.420 than she normally does.

00:37:50.260 Thank you, Glenn.

00:37:51.400 And her book has been released.

00:37:53.960 And we have the video excerpts

00:37:55.720 of her book.

00:37:56.920 And we're going to share that

00:37:59.940 coming up real soon as well.

00:38:03.780 Glenn Beck.

00:38:09.020 Oh, thank you.

00:38:09.880 Seared steak and roasted potatoes.

00:38:28.100 Fresh gnocchi with summer squash.

00:38:30.720 Yes, please.

00:38:31.740 Okay.

00:38:32.380 You might think to yourself,

00:38:33.340 I would like to go to a restaurant

00:38:34.160 and get those things.

00:38:35.780 What if you can get them at home?

00:38:36.980 What if you don't have to go out?

00:38:37.960 What if you can eat these in your bed pants?

00:38:41.160 Again, yes.

00:38:41.820 In your bed pants?

00:38:43.060 Yeah.

00:38:43.280 What did you say?

00:38:44.380 Oh, bed pants.

00:38:45.240 Why would I eat them in a bed pants?

00:38:46.280 Like, why would you be eating your dinner

00:38:47.800 in a bed pants?

00:38:48.780 No one wants bed pants. 0.83

00:39:14.580 A better way to cook.

00:39:19.200 Love.

00:39:20.760 Courage.

00:39:22.380 Truth.

00:39:22.820 I want you to know that you are the answer.

00:39:25.360 You really are the answer.

00:39:26.940 The power to change yourself,

00:39:29.220 the power to change America's course,

00:39:32.180 resides in you.

00:39:34.160 It's what the message of the 9-12 project

00:39:36.060 was all about.

00:39:36.800 Your ability to effect change

00:39:39.480 with principles over politics and policies.

00:39:44.620 Over the weekend on 60 Minutes,

00:39:46.720 we saw the opposite of this

00:39:48.060 from Steve Bannon.

00:39:49.040 He sat down with Trump's

00:39:50.200 former chief strategist

00:39:51.360 on 60 Minutes

00:39:52.240 who said this.

00:39:55.660 I'm going to be his wingman

00:39:57.060 outside for the entire time.

00:39:59.380 To pretend.

00:39:59.780 So you'll not be attacking

00:40:00.920 Donald Trump.

00:40:02.220 In your role.

00:40:02.920 No.

00:40:03.420 Our purpose is to support

00:40:04.940 Donald Trump.

00:40:05.380 By the way. 0.99

00:40:05.680 And destroy his enemies. 0.99

00:40:08.340 To make sure his enemies know 0.99

00:40:10.100 that there's no free shot on gold.

00:40:11.740 You know, I remember the days

00:40:13.740 when we called out those people

00:40:15.600 who put blind faith in President Obama.

00:40:19.380 Personality over principles.

00:40:23.200 America, what has changed?

00:40:25.460 Nothing.

00:40:26.580 Nothing except our belief in ourself.

00:40:28.940 Nothing but the belief

00:40:30.620 that we're going to make it.

00:40:32.780 I want you to hear clearly.

00:40:35.280 We're going to.

00:40:37.580 Charisma over core values

00:40:39.320 always fall short.

00:40:42.040 And one voice can change a community.

00:40:44.880 One voice can change a family.

00:40:47.860 One family changes a community.

00:40:50.020 One community changes a state.

00:40:51.640 One state changes a nation.

00:40:53.160 One nation changes the world.

00:40:54.700 But it starts with you.

00:40:57.560 You are the answer.

00:40:59.340 And then together,

00:41:02.560 grounded in our shared principles,

00:41:05.160 we create something that is durable

00:41:07.660 and has lasting impact.

00:41:18.840 It's Tuesday, September 12th.

00:41:22.000 This is the Glenn Beck Program.

00:41:23.980 Max Lucado from San Antonio, Texas.

00:41:27.920 He started a small church in Miami, Florida,

00:41:30.940 and now he's in San Antonio.

00:41:33.740 He's been a pastor for 40 years.

00:41:35.600 He's authored 34 books,

00:41:38.000 43 different languages.

00:41:40.120 97 million copies of his books are in print.

00:41:44.520 He's been married 34 years,

00:41:46.760 has a granddaughter,

00:41:48.180 has three wonderful children,

00:41:50.420 and a very important message

00:41:54.100 in his new book,

00:41:55.200 Anxious for Nothing,

00:41:57.480 which, Max,

00:41:58.760 I had to have you on

00:42:00.360 because I think this is the answer

00:42:02.240 to much of what the world is facing right now.

00:42:06.520 We are so anxious about everything.

00:42:10.100 And through, I think, misdirection,

00:42:12.720 we're blaming it on all kinds of different things

00:42:15.700 and all different people.

00:42:16.660 But it's really this anxiety.

00:42:21.400 First of all,

00:42:21.900 where do you think it's coming from?

00:42:23.340 What are we experiencing?

00:42:25.560 Thanks for letting me on the program,

00:42:27.540 by the way.

00:42:28.080 Sure, yeah.

00:42:29.200 That's not just an assumption on your part.

00:42:31.480 You know, sociologist after sociologist

00:42:33.560 has told us,

00:42:35.080 and I document a lot of this in the book,

00:42:36.800 that we are now the most anxious nation

00:42:38.920 on the planet,

00:42:40.340 and this is the most anxious generation

00:42:42.240 since anxiety was ever measured.

00:42:44.260 Third world countries score healthier

00:42:47.400 on the anxiety list

00:42:49.600 than the United States does.

00:42:51.320 So how could this be?

00:42:52.500 We have more gimmicks,

00:42:54.840 I mean, more gadgets,

00:42:56.000 more toys,

00:42:57.120 more entertainment than ever,

00:42:58.640 and yet we're wrapped tighter

00:42:59.740 than Egyptian mummies.

00:43:01.200 We're just anxious people.

00:43:03.180 And so it's not just an assumption

00:43:04.560 on your part.

00:43:05.800 And I think the consequence of this,

00:43:08.100 of course, is physical.

00:43:10.120 Just about every malady

00:43:11.720 can be traced back in some form

00:43:13.740 to some form of stress.

00:43:15.780 But I think also it has,

00:43:18.180 we pay a high price emotionally.

00:43:20.360 We're losing the ability

00:43:21.580 to have honest conversations

00:43:23.040 with one another

00:43:23.920 because we live in fear.

00:43:25.940 We're anxious.

00:43:27.380 And when you're anxious,

00:43:28.460 you hunker down

00:43:29.340 and you withdraw.

00:43:30.860 And the result of that

00:43:31.820 can be a breakdown

00:43:32.640 in fellowship,

00:43:33.940 community,

00:43:34.840 and dialogue.

00:43:35.380 We also,

00:43:36.280 we would draw,

00:43:37.100 but then we also gather

00:43:38.820 in groups,

00:43:40.340 this thing that's going on

00:43:41.980 with, you know,

00:43:43.680 dopamine right now

00:43:45.060 of we get constant dopamine hits

00:43:47.800 if we post something nasty

00:43:49.660 on Facebook

00:43:50.400 and it starts to go viral.

00:43:53.140 Our brain is rewarding us for that

00:43:55.800 with a feel-good drug.

00:43:58.020 And it's,

00:43:59.120 I don't know how that's going to break

00:44:00.940 because we're looking,

00:44:03.400 I mean, look,

00:44:03.880 we're strung out on opioids

00:44:05.500 or on dopamine hits.

00:44:09.240 And if you're not doing

00:44:10.280 one of those two things,

00:44:11.300 the suicide rate

00:44:12.200 is going through the roof.

00:44:13.240 People are not built

00:44:14.540 to handle this kind of stress.

00:44:16.080 The suicide rate

00:44:17.260 between 1999 and today

00:44:19.320 has gone up 24%.

00:44:22.300 Wow.

00:44:23.880 24%.

00:44:24.440 Now, if we said that

00:44:26.060 about a particular disease,

00:44:27.780 we'd call it an epidemic.

00:44:30.780 More people than ever

00:44:32.200 are orchestrating

00:44:33.380 their own departure,

00:44:34.420 which gives rise

00:44:36.680 to the question,

00:44:37.720 what is happening

00:44:38.660 in our culture

00:44:39.680 to cause that

00:44:41.040 to occur?

00:44:41.840 What is it?

00:44:43.560 I think,

00:44:45.120 I think from a sociologist's viewpoint,

00:44:47.500 the common list includes

00:44:49.620 we've seen more change

00:44:51.060 in the last 30 years

00:44:52.160 than we've seen

00:44:52.700 in the last 300.

00:44:53.840 So the world is moving

00:44:54.900 far too fast.

00:44:56.640 Number two,

00:44:57.240 we've not,

00:44:57.860 we have forgotten

00:44:58.420 how to slow down.

00:44:59.500 Our great-grandparents

00:45:01.520 and ancestors

00:45:02.660 would go only as far

00:45:04.100 as the day

00:45:04.460 as the horse

00:45:04.940 or the camel would go

00:45:05.920 and then when the sun set,

00:45:06.920 they would slow down.

00:45:07.760 We have forgotten

00:45:08.320 how to do that.

00:45:09.880 And then also,

00:45:10.960 the bombardment

00:45:12.780 of negative news,

00:45:14.580 not just political news,

00:45:16.680 but just negative news.

00:45:17.880 If something bad

00:45:18.580 happens in Nepal,

00:45:19.780 I hear about it

00:45:20.620 within five seconds,

00:45:22.120 whereas our ancestors

00:45:23.160 never would have heard

00:45:24.120 about it

00:45:24.500 or if they did,

00:45:25.080 it would have been

00:45:25.520 five weeks later.

00:45:26.600 So we're just bombarded

00:45:27.780 with negative news.

00:45:29.040 So those are the three things

00:45:30.720 that sociologists state.

00:45:32.340 Can I add to that

00:45:33.540 as a pastor?

00:45:34.380 Sure.

00:45:35.020 I think secularism

00:45:36.340 is taking its toll on us.

00:45:38.860 Secularism is the belief 0.99

00:45:39.960 that there's nothing

00:45:40.720 in life beyond

00:45:41.980 what happens

00:45:42.540 between birth

00:45:43.320 and the grave

00:45:44.360 and there's nothing

00:45:45.360 beyond the world

00:45:46.180 to help us. 1.00

00:45:49.540 Secularism really sucks 1.00

00:45:50.660 the hope 0.98

00:45:51.160 out of a culture

00:45:52.080 because if there's

00:45:53.400 nothing more

00:45:53.960 than what I can see

00:45:54.900 and touch and feel

00:45:55.860 and I don't like

00:45:57.100 what I can see

00:45:57.720 and touch and feel,

00:45:58.680 then I think

00:45:59.100 I'll just check out.

00:46:00.140 So I want to play

00:46:00.980 something for you

00:46:01.620 that I saw this morning

00:46:02.880 from Jim Carrey.

00:46:04.980 He was giving

00:46:05.800 an interview

00:46:06.440 yesterday

00:46:07.280 in New York

00:46:08.300 and it was some

00:46:08.820 fancy celebrity thing

00:46:09.880 and everybody

00:46:10.920 who's reporting this

00:46:11.900 says,

00:46:12.200 look at Jim Carrey

00:46:12.860 is kind of slapping

00:46:13.520 down Hollywood

00:46:14.180 and the elites

00:46:15.300 and everything else.

00:46:16.040 I don't think

00:46:17.080 that's what's happening.

00:46:18.980 I want you just to

00:46:20.440 listen

00:46:21.880 to what Jim Carrey

00:46:23.040 said in an interview

00:46:23.780 yesterday

00:46:24.200 because he is either

00:46:25.560 really unhealthy

00:46:27.140 or

00:46:28.440 he's just starting

00:46:30.600 to figure life out

00:46:31.500 and I can't decide

00:46:32.380 which it is.

00:46:33.080 Say Jim Carrey.

00:46:34.780 Yes.

00:46:35.680 What?

00:46:35.940 I've covered a lot

00:46:36.760 of fashion weeks.

00:46:37.480 This is the first time

00:46:38.360 I've run in

00:46:39.220 to Jim Carrey.

00:46:40.780 Wait,

00:46:41.340 tell me.

00:46:41.880 Is it true

00:46:42.360 you're wandering

00:46:42.760 the streets?

00:46:43.360 You need a date

00:46:43.920 to the party?

00:46:44.500 What's up?

00:46:45.100 No, no, no.

00:46:45.760 I'm doing just fine.

00:46:47.660 I just,

00:46:48.240 you know,

00:46:48.900 there's no meaning

00:46:49.740 to any of this.

00:46:50.560 So I wanted to find

00:46:52.180 the most meaningless

00:46:52.980 thing that I could

00:46:53.880 come to and join

00:46:55.560 and here I am.

00:46:59.540 I mean,

00:47:00.060 you've got to admit

00:47:00.620 it's completely meaningless.

00:47:02.280 Well,

00:47:02.720 they say they're

00:47:03.340 celebrating icons inside.

00:47:04.780 Celebrating icons.

00:47:05.860 Boy,

00:47:06.140 that is just

00:47:06.700 the absolute

00:47:07.640 lowest aiming,

00:47:09.700 you know,

00:47:10.900 possibility

00:47:11.560 that we could

00:47:12.340 come up with.

00:47:13.180 It's like icons.

00:47:14.740 Do you believe

00:47:15.320 in icons?

00:47:16.520 I don't believe

00:47:17.060 in personalities.

00:47:18.040 I don't believe

00:47:18.440 that you exist,

00:47:19.560 but there is

00:47:20.260 a wonderful fragrance

00:47:21.860 in the air.

00:47:23.240 You don't believe

00:47:23.860 certain icons

00:47:24.500 have the power

00:47:25.180 to make change,

00:47:26.000 to think differently,

00:47:26.740 to be bold,

00:47:27.500 to inspire others?

00:47:29.200 Artistry?

00:47:29.720 You're one of them.

00:47:30.960 On the good foot!

00:47:32.060 Ha! 0.89

00:47:33.540 Yeah.

00:47:34.920 You shut her down now. 0.99

00:47:38.120 Yeah, no,

00:47:38.680 I don't believe

00:47:39.920 in icons.

00:47:41.300 I don't believe

00:47:42.160 in personalities.

00:47:43.500 I believe that

00:47:44.100 peace lies

00:47:45.620 beyond personality,

00:47:47.120 beyond invention

00:47:47.820 and disguise,

00:47:49.160 beyond the red S

00:47:50.400 that you wear

00:47:50.900 on your chest

00:47:51.560 that makes bullets 0.99

00:47:52.300 bounce off.

00:47:53.980 I believe that

00:47:54.480 it's deeper than that.

00:47:55.680 I believe we're

00:47:56.200 a field of energy

00:47:57.000 dancing for itself.

00:47:59.120 And, uh,

00:48:00.180 I don't care.

00:48:02.420 But Jim,

00:48:02.960 you got really

00:48:03.660 dressed up

00:48:04.180 for the occasion.

00:48:05.060 You look good.

00:48:06.060 No, I didn't get

00:48:06.960 dressed up.

00:48:07.660 I didn't get dressed up.

00:48:08.480 Who did?

00:48:08.940 There is no me.

00:48:10.140 There's no you.

00:48:10.980 No.

00:48:11.280 We're not here.

00:48:11.940 This is a dream?

00:48:12.740 There's just things

00:48:13.400 happening.

00:48:14.920 Stop.

00:48:17.360 He is,

00:48:18.260 he's a guy

00:48:18.760 who's been going

00:48:19.300 through trouble

00:48:19.880 lately,

00:48:20.880 a lot of personal

00:48:21.660 trouble.

00:48:22.120 And it's,

00:48:22.660 to me,

00:48:22.940 this is really

00:48:23.500 concerning.

00:48:26.040 I like the idea

00:48:27.480 that he says

00:48:28.000 all of this

00:48:28.380 is meaningless,

00:48:28.860 but I think

00:48:29.740 he is to a point

00:48:31.220 to where he means

00:48:32.300 really all of this

00:48:34.160 is meaningless.

00:48:35.380 And there's a,

00:48:36.480 a fine line

00:48:38.340 between that.

00:48:41.180 He seems right

00:48:42.420 on the edge

00:48:42.900 of despair.

00:48:43.800 Yes.

00:48:44.100 And despair

00:48:45.640 often is born

00:48:47.660 out of a sense

00:48:49.180 of utter,

00:48:50.220 complete disappointment

00:48:51.320 with life.

00:48:52.720 You know,

00:48:52.900 I've had,

00:48:53.500 been at the top,

00:48:54.440 I've had the very best,

00:48:55.600 I've had all

00:48:56.040 it could give me,

00:48:57.000 and it's still vain.

00:48:58.360 It's vanity.

00:49:00.040 You know,

00:49:00.260 there's a book

00:49:01.080 in the Bible

00:49:01.580 called Ecclesiastes,

00:49:03.140 and King Solomon

00:49:04.520 reached that same

00:49:05.700 conclusion.

00:49:06.520 You know,

00:49:06.760 the richest man

00:49:07.460 probably who ever

00:49:08.440 lived,

00:49:08.820 and he said,

00:49:09.300 it's nothing but,

00:49:10.540 you know,

00:49:10.920 there's vanity,

00:49:12.240 and it has no

00:49:14.020 meaning to me.

00:49:15.640 And so,

00:49:16.100 this cry for meaning,

00:49:17.520 this longing to be

00:49:18.640 a part of something

00:49:19.480 significant,

00:49:20.680 is right at the core

00:49:22.080 of the deepest,

00:49:23.860 deepest need

00:49:24.480 of a human being.

00:49:25.800 Why am I here?

00:49:26.780 Where am I going?

00:49:27.260 So where are we

00:49:27.780 finding that now?

00:49:28.800 Now that our churches,

00:49:30.600 you know,

00:49:31.340 are struggling,

00:49:32.660 I think,

00:49:33.380 in some cases,

00:49:35.380 for good reason,

00:49:38.300 where do we find it?

00:49:41.340 How do we put this

00:49:42.780 back?

00:49:45.840 I know our churches

00:49:47.240 are struggling,

00:49:48.700 and oftentimes,

00:49:51.300 because of the way

00:49:53.060 churches are structured,

00:49:54.340 they can be so

00:49:55.160 inauthentic that they

00:49:57.000 come across to people

00:49:58.040 as simply another way

00:49:59.240 to earn money

00:50:00.740 or to steal from people.

00:50:03.380 And so,

00:50:04.260 that's created

00:50:05.700 this connection

00:50:08.100 between many people

00:50:09.400 and the church.

00:50:10.060 I really think,

00:50:12.660 though,

00:50:13.000 that we are beginning

00:50:14.000 to sense,

00:50:15.640 especially in the

00:50:16.820 millennial generation,

00:50:18.860 a sense of

00:50:19.740 authentic faith

00:50:21.240 among our young people.

00:50:22.960 And it's very,

00:50:23.660 very encouraging.

00:50:24.920 And it's a faith

00:50:25.760 that's really built

00:50:26.840 upon a deep,

00:50:27.980 deep conviction

00:50:28.600 that there is a good God

00:50:29.920 who is up to something good.

00:50:31.740 They don't have

00:50:32.420 all the answers,

00:50:33.660 don't have all

00:50:34.300 of the questions resolved,

00:50:35.780 but there's a deep,

00:50:37.140 deep conviction

00:50:37.800 that we're seeing

00:50:39.020 a fresh move

00:50:40.480 of faith

00:50:41.200 among our young people.

00:50:42.820 And I find that

00:50:44.020 very encouraging.

00:50:47.600 There are reasons

00:50:48.720 to feel

00:50:50.380 the chaos.

00:50:52.700 There are reasons.

00:50:53.260 I mean,

00:50:53.420 there's real things

00:50:54.800 that are happening

00:50:55.460 that people's jobs

00:50:56.560 are at stake.

00:50:57.180 They don't know

00:50:58.000 how they're going

00:50:58.320 to make ends meet.

00:50:59.080 Their kids are in trouble.

00:51:00.280 Suicide rate with youth

00:51:01.720 is through the roof.

00:51:02.540 There's real reason

00:51:04.100 to feel this way.

00:51:06.140 How do you disconnect

00:51:07.820 from

00:51:09.260 the very real things

00:51:12.260 in your life,

00:51:13.140 the hype 0.57

00:51:15.140 of all of the things

00:51:16.880 that you shouldn't

00:51:17.560 worry about,

00:51:18.440 and put that in order

00:51:20.860 and then find

00:51:22.480 a peaceful place

00:51:25.400 in it?

00:51:26.600 You know?

00:51:27.020 How did Martin Luther King,

00:51:29.640 how was he

00:51:30.720 in jail

00:51:31.900 and fine?

00:51:33.220 How did

00:51:34.280 Dietrich Bonhoeffer

00:51:35.780 thank his executioner?

00:51:37.900 How do you do that?

00:51:40.140 And I ask that

00:51:41.420 very question

00:51:42.040 in this book

00:51:42.800 because I base

00:51:44.100 this book

00:51:44.680 upon the writings

00:51:45.540 of the Apostle Paul

00:51:46.940 and he wrote

00:51:47.980 this book

00:51:48.700 in a Roman jail cell.

00:51:50.580 And this book

00:51:51.980 called Philippians

00:51:53.140 in the Bible

00:51:53.880 has come to be known

00:51:55.340 as the epistle

00:51:56.000 of joy.

00:51:57.180 And yet,

00:51:57.560 there's a thousand

00:51:58.320 and one reasons

00:51:59.120 he should not be happy.

00:52:00.420 I mean,

00:52:01.700 the emperor

00:52:02.180 was making a living 1.00

00:52:03.360 off of killing Christians 0.99

00:52:04.480 and probably Paul 0.99

00:52:05.600 was next in line.

00:52:06.900 And here,

00:52:07.560 the Apostle Paul

00:52:08.380 is chained

00:52:08.960 to a Roman guard

00:52:10.140 and has every reason

00:52:11.820 to think he'll never

00:52:12.600 see the light of day again.

00:52:13.740 If it is,

00:52:14.340 it's just for a few moments

00:52:15.380 before his head 0.99

00:52:16.000 is chopped off. 0.98

00:52:16.800 And yet,

00:52:17.460 you read these four chapters

00:52:18.700 and there's not one

00:52:19.820 word of complaint.

00:52:21.360 Not one word

00:52:22.280 of complaint.

00:52:22.940 And as you dig

00:52:24.560 into this book,

00:52:25.760 you find in this book

00:52:27.060 really a deep

00:52:28.060 and abiding trust

00:52:29.280 in two simple facts

00:52:30.720 that there is

00:52:31.640 a good God

00:52:32.740 and this good God

00:52:34.260 is up to good things.

00:52:36.400 And so I think

00:52:37.320 that,

00:52:38.140 and I'm not saying

00:52:39.200 anything that surprised you.

00:52:40.340 I mean,

00:52:40.480 I'm a pastor,

00:52:41.320 but I know I'm supposed

00:52:42.040 to say these things.

00:52:43.120 But deep in my heart,

00:52:44.360 I really believe

00:52:45.500 that the cause

00:52:46.720 of anguish

00:52:47.440 and despair

00:52:48.360 is a sense

00:52:49.020 of meaninglessness.

00:52:49.860 Why am I here?

00:52:51.500 Where am I headed?

00:52:52.760 Why am I here?

00:52:53.580 Where am I headed?

00:52:54.420 And if you cannot answer

00:52:55.600 those two fundamental

00:52:56.780 questions in life,

00:52:58.400 I mean,

00:52:58.720 how do you get up

00:52:59.620 on a Monday

00:53:00.140 and go to work?

00:53:01.400 You can only do it

00:53:02.220 so many times

00:53:03.160 before you become

00:53:04.300 bitter and jaded

00:53:05.340 and cynical.

00:53:07.080 I'd add to that

00:53:08.060 that there is a,

00:53:11.080 there's a deep sense

00:53:12.380 in,

00:53:12.800 I think in all of us,

00:53:15.240 of,

00:53:16.640 I want to do

00:53:17.680 something of meaning.

00:53:19.860 And we can't find it.

00:53:23.400 We can't find that

00:53:25.120 something of meaning.

00:53:28.100 We're talking to Max Lucado.

00:53:29.780 In a second,

00:53:30.780 I want to talk to him

00:53:31.420 about chaos,

00:53:33.280 which we've just

00:53:34.180 been talking about.

00:53:35.460 But calm,

00:53:36.800 C-A-L-M, 1.00

00:53:38.820 calm the chaos.

00:53:40.800 In a minute.

00:53:41.400 The book by Max Lucado

00:53:53.440 is Anxious for Nothing,

00:53:55.220 Finding Calm in a Chaotic World.

00:53:57.500 At some point,

00:53:58.120 I want to ask Max

00:53:59.260 about my,

00:54:00.140 the question my kid

00:54:00.920 asked me the other day

00:54:01.680 with the hurricane

00:54:02.700 bearing down.

00:54:03.520 It was one of those,

00:54:04.520 uh,

00:54:05.020 hey,

00:54:05.540 uh,

00:54:06.440 why is God

00:54:07.480 sending the hurricane?

00:54:08.360 Is it to kill people?

00:54:09.540 And I thought 0.99

00:54:10.120 that was probably,

00:54:10.800 I didn't want to say

00:54:11.440 yes to that.

00:54:12.140 So I said,

00:54:12.860 hey,

00:54:13.400 look,

00:54:13.800 daddy's iPad is charged.

00:54:15.120 Here you go,

00:54:15.620 kid.

00:54:16.260 That was probably

00:54:17.280 not the response

00:54:17.960 Max will give.

00:54:18.600 We'll get to that

00:54:19.040 here in just a second.

00:54:19.740 Um,

00:54:20.300 North Korea

00:54:21.120 just last week

00:54:22.380 tested a hydrogen bomb.

00:54:24.360 That news came

00:54:25.640 as Hurricane Harvey

00:54:27.040 and now 6 million

00:54:28.000 Floridians are without

00:54:29.080 power with,

00:54:29.920 uh,

00:54:30.560 with Irma.

00:54:31.500 We have a really

00:54:32.760 resilient,

00:54:33.260 resilient country.

00:54:34.720 Uh,

00:54:35.180 we are experiencing

00:54:36.220 more pressure points,

00:54:37.400 I think,

00:54:38.300 than I've ever

00:54:39.160 experienced in my life.

00:54:42.900 Change is,

00:54:43.780 it changes a foot,

00:54:44.800 but as Max just said,

00:54:47.680 uh,

00:54:48.800 God's up to something

00:54:49.800 and it's up,

00:54:50.480 he's up to something good,

00:54:51.680 but we have to do our part

00:54:54.260 and be able to relieve

00:54:55.840 some of the stress

00:54:56.720 and,

00:54:57.240 and be able to take

00:54:58.160 some of the things

00:54:58.900 off of the table

00:54:59.940 that we can

00:55:01.380 actually control.

00:55:02.740 And one is,

00:55:03.720 I don't know what's

00:55:04.340 going to happen

00:55:04.760 with the dollar.

00:55:05.880 I don't know what's

00:55:06.320 going to happen

00:55:06.680 with jobs

00:55:07.300 or anything else,

00:55:07.980 but I do know

00:55:09.440 that I can spread

00:55:10.240 my risk around

00:55:11.380 so I don't lose

00:55:12.000 everything if I've

00:55:13.160 got everything

00:55:13.560 in my 401k

00:55:14.420 and it's in stocks.

00:55:15.560 Why do that?

00:55:16.540 Why do that?

00:55:17.960 Would you consider

00:55:18.600 taking 10%

00:55:19.520 of whatever it is

00:55:20.720 you have in your

00:55:21.540 401k or your IRA

00:55:22.740 and,

00:55:23.360 and at least discussing

00:55:24.740 with Goldline,

00:55:26.240 gold as an

00:55:27.480 investment opportunity?

00:55:28.740 It is,

00:55:29.300 you know,

00:55:29.580 from the very

00:55:30.240 beginning of time,

00:55:31.360 gold was the,

00:55:32.360 was the refuge,

00:55:33.700 the shelter

00:55:34.180 that people sought.

00:55:36.360 Right now,

00:55:36.720 Goldline is extending

00:55:37.440 their price protection

00:55:38.280 program for as little

00:55:39.260 as $2,500.

00:55:40.300 You can get three months

00:55:41.160 of price protection,

00:55:42.140 which means if the

00:55:42.700 price goes down,

00:55:43.460 they make it up

00:55:44.000 with more gold

00:55:44.620 all the way up

00:55:45.160 to a year

00:55:45.920 of that insurance

00:55:47.640 for $25,000 investment.

00:55:50.340 Nobody else is offering

00:55:51.200 this.

00:55:51.580 Make sure you read

00:55:52.140 their important risk

00:55:52.840 information.

00:55:53.400 Find out if gold

00:55:53.920 or silver is right

00:55:54.580 for you.

00:55:54.900 It's not right

00:55:55.240 for everybody.

00:55:55.880 1-866-GOLDLINE

00:55:57.160 1-866-GOLDLINE

00:55:58.360 or goldline.com.

00:56:02.300 Glenn back.

00:56:04.180 Max Licato,

00:56:09.300 a great new book

00:56:10.660 everyone should read.

00:56:11.800 It's called

00:56:12.100 Anxious for Nothing,

00:56:13.900 Finding Calm

00:56:14.900 in a Chaotic World.

00:56:16.640 So this really happened

00:56:17.240 the other day.

00:56:17.640 My son is six

00:56:18.340 and he's watching

00:56:20.040 some of the,

00:56:20.820 I mean,

00:56:21.100 people talking about

00:56:21.640 the hurricane.

00:56:22.140 My mom lives in Georgia,

00:56:23.700 was threatened by it

00:56:24.760 at one point.

00:56:26.160 And he asked,

00:56:28.120 why does God

00:56:29.520 send hurricanes?

00:56:30.960 Is it to kill people?

00:56:32.860 So I surely

00:56:34.500 did not answer

00:56:35.900 the question correctly.

00:56:37.740 But what,

00:56:38.880 I mean,

00:56:39.380 how do you answer

00:56:40.000 something like that

00:56:40.560 to a six-year-old?

00:56:41.680 Yeah.

00:56:42.200 How do you answer

00:56:43.860 when a six-year-old's

00:56:46.380 father's diagnosed

00:56:47.340 with cancer

00:56:48.040 or when someone's

00:56:49.920 in a car wreck

00:56:51.100 like a family

00:56:52.220 in our congregation

00:56:52.880 was recently

00:56:53.860 and a man

00:56:54.560 had his first baby

00:56:56.340 on Monday

00:56:57.200 and he was killed

00:56:57.880 in a car wreck

00:56:58.540 on Saturday.

00:56:59.120 It's just these

00:57:00.020 kind of things

00:57:01.120 just,

00:57:01.880 you know,

00:57:02.320 they leave our

00:57:03.100 heads spinning.

00:57:04.660 And it's not even

00:57:05.160 six-year-olds

00:57:05.680 that ask that.

00:57:06.300 Oh, no.

00:57:06.960 There's 60-year-olds.

00:57:07.580 There's 96-year-olds

00:57:08.660 that ask that question.

00:57:09.640 Yeah.

00:57:10.520 Why do bad things

00:57:11.540 happen to good people?

00:57:12.760 You know.

00:57:14.120 And I think

00:57:15.080 that's where

00:57:15.580 the heart

00:57:16.300 of the conversation

00:57:18.380 is.

00:57:19.160 The real heart

00:57:20.220 is,

00:57:20.660 is there a God?

00:57:21.960 And if he is a God,

00:57:22.880 what kind of God

00:57:23.520 is he?

00:57:24.380 You know?

00:57:24.940 Is there a God?

00:57:25.760 Is he in control?

00:57:27.320 And if he's in control,

00:57:28.460 why do bad things happen?

00:57:30.000 And I think the Bible

00:57:30.840 talks about that

00:57:31.900 over and over.

00:57:33.060 You know,

00:57:33.360 Jesus said many times,

00:57:34.760 for example,

00:57:35.780 in this world

00:57:36.640 you will have tribulation,

00:57:38.280 but be of good cheer,

00:57:39.220 I've overcome the world.

00:57:41.220 The ultimate answer

00:57:42.740 for human suffering,

00:57:44.380 according to the Bible,

00:57:45.440 is it's not supposed

00:57:48.360 to be this way.

00:57:50.000 It's not supposed

00:57:50.900 to be this way.

00:57:51.840 The world was not created

00:57:53.600 to have hurricanes

00:57:54.860 and tornadoes.

00:57:55.780 Our bodies

00:57:56.660 were not intended

00:57:57.460 to have to deal

00:57:58.520 with cancer cells

00:57:59.780 and heart conditions.

00:58:02.040 My dad died of ALS.

00:58:04.060 You know,

00:58:04.340 the body,

00:58:05.800 it's not supposed

00:58:06.480 to be this way.

00:58:07.540 But,

00:58:08.460 there's a good day coming.

00:58:09.780 There's a better day coming.

00:58:11.040 Don't lose hope.

00:58:11.980 Don't give up.

00:58:12.960 I promise I'm going

00:58:13.960 to take what is

00:58:14.720 difficult,

00:58:15.900 tragic,

00:58:16.400 and I'm going to

00:58:16.920 redeem it

00:58:17.500 into something good.

00:58:18.880 And this is what led

00:58:19.620 one Bible writer

00:58:20.460 to say that the promise

00:58:21.940 of the future glory

00:58:22.960 is not worth comparing

00:58:24.040 with the difficulties

00:58:25.180 we have today.

00:58:26.040 In other words,

00:58:26.600 the small potato

00:58:27.660 struggles we have

00:58:28.900 are going to be

00:58:29.340 long forgotten

00:58:30.040 in the next life,

00:58:31.380 in the new life.

00:58:32.400 I know that requires faith.

00:58:34.160 I know that that's hard

00:58:35.060 for some people

00:58:35.760 to believe.

00:58:38.200 I've tried not believing it,

00:58:39.880 and I think the idea

00:58:41.320 of not having faith

00:58:42.700 is far more difficult

00:58:44.620 to me than having faith.

00:58:46.920 And so ultimately,

00:58:48.340 the answer is,

00:58:49.320 it's not going to be

00:58:50.060 this way forever.

00:58:50.800 And I'm going to lay

00:58:52.220 the blame

00:58:52.680 at the feet of Eve.

00:58:54.760 Adam and Eve

00:58:55.440 are getting it for me.

00:58:56.420 I think that's what you said.

00:58:57.840 Don't give them

00:58:58.560 my email address.

00:59:01.240 Max,

00:59:01.780 I have a great story

00:59:04.860 to share

00:59:05.520 with the audience

00:59:06.820 of it's how you

00:59:08.740 look at your situation

00:59:10.520 that we're going to share

00:59:11.520 here in a minute.

00:59:12.900 And I've run out of time,

00:59:14.020 but I want to come back

00:59:14.720 for one more segment

00:59:15.500 with you

00:59:15.800 because I want you

00:59:16.360 to explain C-A-L-M. 0.92

00:59:18.700 In a world of chaos,

00:59:19.740 the answer is calm.

00:59:21.780 And we get to that next.

00:59:36.160 You're listening

00:59:38.920 to the Glenn Beck Program.

00:59:40.440 Max Licato

00:59:41.080 has a new book out

00:59:42.480 called Anxious for Nothing.

00:59:44.720 And as each passing day

00:59:47.880 goes by,

00:59:48.560 I kind of feel like that.

00:59:49.920 I kind of feel like,

00:59:51.020 you know,

00:59:51.420 there are real reasons

00:59:52.340 to be anxious.

00:59:53.200 There's real pressure

00:59:54.320 on right now.

00:59:55.180 The world's changing.

00:59:57.260 But really,

00:59:57.900 how much of that

00:59:58.380 really matters?

00:59:59.320 I mean,

01:00:00.120 you know,

01:00:00.540 you either have the faith

01:00:01.480 that it's going to be fine

01:00:02.940 and we're going to make it

01:00:03.920 or you don't.

01:00:04.980 And if you don't have the faith,

01:00:06.380 then,

01:00:06.760 you know,

01:00:08.140 it's trouble.

01:00:09.760 You say the answer is calm.

01:00:12.580 Yeah.

01:00:13.340 I would even go so far

01:00:15.060 as to say,

01:00:15.600 I think we each have

01:00:16.520 a moral obligation

01:00:17.620 to be peaceful people.

01:00:20.020 You know,

01:00:20.540 we have a moral obligation.

01:00:21.900 I owe it to you

01:00:23.200 and to you

01:00:23.920 to be as peaceful

01:00:25.300 as I can be.

01:00:26.440 And rather than stir up

01:00:28.000 anxiety everywhere I go,

01:00:30.280 if I can learn

01:00:31.000 to bring peace,

01:00:32.720 like you said earlier,

01:00:33.980 Glenn,

01:00:34.700 one person is changed

01:00:36.760 and that person changes

01:00:37.760 a family,

01:00:38.520 that person,

01:00:39.140 a family changes

01:00:39.860 a community

01:00:40.520 and then a state

01:00:41.360 and then a nation

01:00:42.000 and then the world.

01:00:42.880 I have a moral obligation

01:00:44.460 to do all I can do

01:00:46.280 to be a peaceful person

01:00:47.620 because in the long term,

01:00:49.560 if enough of us do that,

01:00:51.560 we create a peaceful place.

01:00:53.900 And so that's why

01:00:54.580 I've been so fascinated

01:00:55.640 with this whole theme

01:00:56.780 of anxiety.

01:00:57.620 We're an anxious nation.

01:00:59.520 An anxious nation

01:01:00.680 makes bad decisions.

01:01:02.540 An anxious nation

01:01:03.520 is on edge

01:01:04.960 and anxious people

01:01:06.120 cannot get along

01:01:07.000 with each other.

01:01:08.600 Peaceful people,

01:01:09.520 on the other hand,

01:01:10.700 have dialogue,

01:01:11.900 have community,

01:01:13.260 talk through their differences

01:01:14.860 and learn to disagree agreeably.

01:01:17.440 These are characteristics

01:01:18.540 of peaceful people.

01:01:20.100 Anyway,

01:01:20.800 so all of that to say,

01:01:21.820 how do you become that?

01:01:23.520 The book in the Bible

01:01:25.240 called Philippians

01:01:26.260 is a book about peace.

01:01:28.360 And in this book,

01:01:29.460 the apostle says,

01:01:30.760 here's four things you can do.

01:01:32.400 Number one,

01:01:33.140 you celebrate God.

01:01:34.420 The way he says it is,

01:01:35.620 rejoice in the Lord always.

01:01:37.600 Again, I say rejoice.

01:01:38.800 He must have been a preacher

01:01:40.260 because he says everything twice.

01:01:42.260 Rejoice in the Lord always.

01:01:43.680 Again, I say rejoice.

01:01:44.740 So the next time you feel anxious,

01:01:46.880 just take a minute

01:01:47.740 and rejoice in God.

01:01:49.180 Rejoice in the sunshine.

01:01:50.440 Rejoice in his goodness.

01:01:51.600 Rejoice in what you got.

01:01:53.100 And then the apostle says,

01:01:54.860 be anxious for nothing.

01:01:56.140 There's the phrase.

01:01:57.440 But in everything,

01:01:58.120 by prayer and petition,

01:01:59.460 let your requests

01:02:00.180 be made known to God.

01:02:01.620 So instead of letting

01:02:03.080 the anxiety settle within you,

01:02:05.040 immediately lift the cause

01:02:06.560 or source of that anxiety to God,

01:02:08.460 make a prayer out of it.

01:02:10.000 And then the apostle says,

01:02:11.280 do this with thanksgiving.

01:02:12.660 That is to say,

01:02:13.540 leave it with God.

01:02:14.740 And then lastly,

01:02:15.580 he says,

01:02:16.440 now meditate on good things.

01:02:17.740 And he gives us a list

01:02:18.820 of like nine different virtues

01:02:20.360 upon which to meditate.

01:02:23.940 In other words,

01:02:24.520 set your mind on better things.

01:02:26.420 It's a real practical thing,

01:02:28.160 I think, Glenn,

01:02:29.200 that the apostle

01:02:29.960 who had every reason

01:02:30.960 to be stressed out

01:02:32.040 found peace.

01:02:33.140 And he says,

01:02:33.780 here's how I do it.

01:02:35.900 Max,

01:02:36.300 it is good to talk to you.

01:02:37.720 And you have been

01:02:38.640 an influence on my life

01:02:39.840 and many,

01:02:41.020 many,

01:02:41.180 many people that I know.

01:02:43.340 And it is great to have you here.

01:02:44.600 And it's mutual.

01:02:45.620 Thank you so much.

01:02:46.620 Every conversation

01:02:47.680 is better than the other.

01:02:49.000 God bless you.

01:02:58.080 The book is

01:02:59.200 Anxious for Nothing,

01:03:00.680 Finding Calm in a Chaotic World.

01:03:02.360 Max Licato is the author.

01:03:05.180 And thank you for

01:03:05.980 helping me parent, Max.

01:03:07.220 I appreciate it.

01:03:07.960 I want to talk to you

01:03:08.580 a little bit about

01:03:09.620 what is required

01:03:11.040 to actually make a change.

01:03:13.100 And I believe it is hope.

01:03:16.540 Sujo John,

01:03:18.020 a guy that I met,

01:03:19.520 he was in the North Tower

01:03:21.200 on 9-11.

01:03:22.660 I want to tell you

01:03:23.620 his story today.

01:03:25.140 He is a guy

01:03:25.840 who left his hometown

01:03:27.040 of Calcutta

01:03:28.080 and he only carried hope

01:03:29.900 in his heart.

01:03:30.700 He knew

01:03:32.760 that he and his family

01:03:34.360 would have a better life

01:03:35.960 if he could just

01:03:37.320 make it to America.

01:03:38.420 I came to America

01:03:40.020 in February of 2001

01:03:41.260 with $50 in my wallet

01:03:42.920 and two bags.

01:03:44.900 And I came to America

01:03:45.540 to chase dreams.

01:03:46.660 And even before

01:03:47.400 coming to America,

01:03:48.380 I just knew that America

01:03:49.460 is a place where dreams

01:03:50.420 and dreamers collide.

01:03:51.720 So I came here

01:03:52.620 to chase adventure

01:03:53.400 and prosperity,

01:03:54.660 have degrees in business,

01:03:55.920 that's all I had,

01:03:57.080 and a faith to lean on

01:03:58.200 and a country

01:03:58.620 to put my feet on.

01:03:59.940 So John and his wife,

01:04:01.700 they wanted to contribute

01:04:02.720 to society

01:04:03.980 and elevate their careers.

01:04:05.860 And they were

01:04:06.640 always working hard

01:04:07.860 to have the best

01:04:08.940 of the best

01:04:09.480 of everything.

01:04:10.920 And because of that,

01:04:12.580 they found themselves

01:04:13.460 in the concrete jungle

01:04:14.920 of Manhattan,

01:04:16.460 New York City.

01:04:18.140 My wife first finds work. 1.00

01:04:19.700 She started working

01:04:20.320 on the 71st floor

01:04:21.320 of the South Tower.

01:04:22.640 And I'm frantically

01:04:23.520 looking for work

01:04:24.280 and no one would employ me

01:04:25.480 because I have

01:04:25.860 no U.S. work experience.

01:04:27.060 And one day

01:04:28.000 there's a job fair

01:04:28.700 at the World Trade Center,

01:04:29.860 the Merritt World Trade Center.

01:04:31.320 And the girl

01:04:31.760 who was interviewing me,

01:04:32.560 she said,

01:04:33.120 I want you to give

01:04:35.140 this company a shot

01:04:35.940 because your wife works there. 0.99

01:04:38.480 It'll be great

01:04:38.840 to work along with her

01:04:39.660 in the same building

01:04:40.240 or other building next to it.

01:04:41.760 So my interview

01:04:42.440 was on the 81st floor

01:04:43.720 of the North Tower.

01:04:45.200 And what got me

01:04:46.220 was the view.

01:04:47.380 She pulled down the blinds

01:04:48.340 and I see the Statue of Liberty.

01:04:50.160 And for an immigrant,

01:04:51.080 you know,

01:04:51.260 your first job

01:04:51.900 working in America

01:04:53.580 and to be working

01:04:54.320 in a building

01:04:54.640 like the World Trade Center

01:04:55.560 and to be seeing that side,

01:04:57.280 I thought this would be

01:04:58.000 a great shot to start with.

01:04:59.700 So he had no idea.

01:05:01.580 He didn't know it at the time,

01:05:02.620 but that view

01:05:03.340 of the Statue of Liberty

01:05:04.840 would soon be obstructed

01:05:07.280 with fire

01:05:08.240 and smoke

01:05:08.940 and debris.

01:05:11.020 Just a few months

01:05:12.380 after his arrival

01:05:13.420 in New York,

01:05:15.280 John would be

01:05:16.320 a first-hand eyewitness

01:05:18.220 to the most tragic event

01:05:19.700 in American history.

01:05:20.720 The building shook violently.

01:05:23.240 Jet fuel made its window

01:05:24.160 floor.

01:05:24.800 Fire breaks

01:05:25.440 down around us.

01:05:26.600 Walls collapsing.

01:05:27.880 And as we look up,

01:05:28.600 there's a huge crater.

01:05:29.460 We can actually see

01:05:30.200 10 floors

01:05:30.800 directly above us.

01:05:33.340 So here he is

01:05:34.380 and he tells me

01:05:37.360 I couldn't even process

01:05:38.960 to what was happening

01:05:39.900 to the building.

01:05:41.200 He said,

01:05:42.000 I'm in the North Tower.

01:05:42.780 The only thing that's happening

01:05:43.520 is the South Tower.

01:05:45.600 Because most days,

01:05:46.860 he and his wife

01:05:47.500 rode the subway

01:05:48.180 to work together.

01:05:48.960 He was in the North Tower,

01:05:52.380 but she was in

01:05:53.560 the South Tower.

01:05:55.940 She slept in

01:05:57.080 just a little bit

01:05:57.780 on that day.

01:05:59.360 She was due

01:06:00.200 at the office

01:06:00.840 in any minute.

01:06:03.180 I thought so about my wife.

01:06:04.420 She's four months pregnant. 0.93

01:06:06.060 And I knew she was

01:06:07.320 in the other tower.

01:06:07.960 She had called me saying,

01:06:09.180 I'm almost there.

01:06:09.860 I'll see you soon.

01:06:11.560 So he tries calling her.

01:06:13.500 The only thing he could do

01:06:14.580 was try to make his way down

01:06:15.920 81 smoke and fire

01:06:18.100 saturated floors

01:06:19.080 and find her.

01:06:22.300 Hope was the only thing

01:06:24.300 that John had.

01:06:25.700 The most amazing thing

01:06:26.720 was there.

01:06:27.260 There's people of all backgrounds,

01:06:28.880 of all color,

01:06:29.780 of all nationalities,

01:06:30.920 but I just saw

01:06:31.520 the best of people

01:06:32.200 come out that day.

01:06:33.620 And when we go to

01:06:34.420 the 43rd or the 44th floor,

01:06:35.920 and I think, Glenn,

01:06:36.760 that's the most moving

01:06:37.460 side of that day.

01:06:38.800 We see firemen,

01:06:40.140 policemen,

01:06:40.580 one by one

01:06:41.080 making their way up.

01:06:42.320 And as we watch

01:06:43.000 these men making

01:06:43.640 their way up,

01:06:44.340 we would ask ourselves,

01:06:45.200 why are they going up?

01:06:45.960 We had seen fire

01:06:47.100 on almost every floor,

01:06:48.500 and we had no idea then

01:06:49.640 that these men

01:06:51.380 were literally

01:06:51.960 making their way

01:06:52.660 up to their death.

01:06:53.780 I often tell people

01:06:54.620 when I share my story,

01:06:56.160 on 9-11,

01:06:56.940 the worst form of evil

01:06:57.720 came and attacked America.

01:06:59.260 And the first response

01:07:00.060 didn't really come

01:07:00.620 to the military.

01:07:01.700 The first response

01:07:02.360 came to these men.

01:07:03.540 They showed the world

01:07:04.140 what this country

01:07:04.700 was made up of,

01:07:05.860 that there were men

01:07:06.340 and women willing 0.98

01:07:06.860 to lay down their lives

01:07:07.900 so that others like me

01:07:08.960 could be around

01:07:09.500 to be sharing our stories.

01:07:10.420 So he,

01:07:11.660 with the help of

01:07:12.780 the humanity

01:07:14.680 of strangers,

01:07:15.900 he makes it out

01:07:16.700 of the South Tower.

01:07:18.560 And amid the chaos

01:07:20.480 on the ground,

01:07:21.680 he searches frantically

01:07:23.160 for his wife.

01:07:25.640 No avail.

01:07:27.340 Then his cell phone rings.

01:07:29.800 Late that day,

01:07:30.720 my cell phone rings

01:07:31.440 for the very first time,

01:07:32.860 and it's my wife

01:07:33.620 on the other side.

01:07:34.860 And it was an amazing moment.

01:07:36.240 I said hello,

01:07:37.020 and she says hello,

01:07:37.800 and she hears my voice,

01:07:38.900 but her first words to me

01:07:40.320 were,

01:07:40.720 babe, are you alive?

01:07:42.980 So here he is,

01:07:44.200 a guy who comes here

01:07:45.500 for a life-changing experience,

01:07:48.240 and he gets one,

01:07:49.320 just not the one

01:07:50.380 he thought it would be.

01:07:52.420 He and his wife

01:07:53.660 both survive 9-11,

01:07:55.900 even though they were

01:07:56.780 in separate towers,

01:07:59.020 and their lives

01:08:00.460 were forever changed.

01:08:03.380 He had come to America 1.00

01:08:05.200 with the hope of prosperity,

01:08:07.080 but he wanted

01:08:09.160 something more.

01:08:12.500 When John got to work

01:08:13.740 the morning of September 11, 2001,

01:08:15.700 this is before the planes

01:08:16.920 crashed into the towers,

01:08:18.360 I want you to listen

01:08:20.020 to the prayer

01:08:21.840 that was answered

01:08:22.640 just before the planes hit.

01:08:26.560 He sent an email

01:08:28.020 to his friend.

01:08:29.280 I wrote an email

01:08:30.900 at 8.05 in the morning

01:08:31.980 from the towers

01:08:32.660 to a friend of mine

01:08:33.800 in my home church

01:08:34.440 in New Jersey

01:08:34.980 saying,

01:08:35.400 Tom,

01:08:35.680 something's happening

01:08:36.340 to me this morning.

01:08:37.600 I know there's a call

01:08:38.380 of God upon my life.

01:08:39.780 These last six months

01:08:40.640 I've been chasing stuff.

01:08:41.800 I can't explain to you

01:08:42.540 what I'm going through

01:08:43.060 right now.

01:08:43.840 I want to be chasing

01:08:44.560 after that which is

01:08:45.320 on God's heart.

01:08:46.420 So I sent that email

01:08:47.360 from the towers

01:08:48.180 at 8.05,

01:08:49.420 and after about 40 minutes

01:08:50.660 this plane comes crashing.

01:08:51.940 So I often joke

01:08:52.940 about that by saying,

01:08:54.000 I think God reads the email.

01:08:55.080 He answers our prayers

01:08:59.780 in unbelievable ways

01:09:01.840 and usually not the way

01:09:03.760 we expect

01:09:04.860 or if we're in the middle of it.

01:09:07.520 Sometimes it's the way

01:09:08.780 we're like,

01:09:09.160 no, no,

01:09:09.540 I didn't mean that.

01:09:10.600 No, not this way.

01:10:40.880 Glenn Beck

01:10:45.080 Hillary Clinton's new book

01:10:51.420 comes out

01:10:52.480 and much to my surprise

01:10:54.740 she happens to be

01:10:56.220 in studio today

01:10:57.180 and Stu,

01:10:59.520 I guess we've allowed her

01:11:02.160 to use one of our studios

01:11:03.080 to record the video portion

01:11:04.720 of her book.

01:11:05.320 Is that what?

01:11:05.840 Well, I mean,

01:11:06.280 I kind of look at this

01:11:06.960 as charity work.

01:11:08.920 I know a lot of people

01:11:09.640 helping with Houston

01:11:10.380 and Irma and everything.

01:11:12.000 Hillary needed a studio 1.00

01:11:12.960 to record the video book

01:11:14.800 and we have a studio

01:11:15.660 so we felt like

01:11:16.520 potentially donating.

01:11:17.140 Wow, it is surprising

01:11:17.940 that she took us up

01:11:18.740 but welcome

01:11:19.220 welcome to the program

01:11:22.180 Hillary Clinton.

01:11:24.580 Hey, thank you.

01:11:25.920 Right.

01:11:26.280 Thank you.

01:11:27.240 You look,

01:11:28.220 if you happen to be watching

01:11:29.260 on the Blaze TV

01:11:30.100 or online

01:11:31.380 you might notice

01:11:32.840 Hillary looks 0.67

01:11:33.580 I mean,

01:11:36.080 a little puffy

01:11:36.840 but you look nice.

01:11:39.060 I would describe it

01:11:39.920 as better than normal?

01:11:41.480 Might be the lighting.

01:11:42.580 Thank you.

01:11:42.980 Might be the lighting.

01:11:43.600 Are we here to chat?

01:11:45.380 No, go ahead.

01:11:46.180 We want to hear

01:11:46.740 the excerpts of the book

01:11:50.080 from Hillary Clinton.

01:11:51.360 These are the actual

01:11:52.640 excerpts from the book.

01:11:54.280 It is hard to be a woman.

01:11:57.440 It is hard to be a woman.

01:11:58.220 You must think like a man. 0.93

01:12:01.100 Act like a lady. 0.99

01:12:03.300 Look like a young girl. 0.94

01:12:06.100 And work like a horse.

01:12:08.600 I have that sign

01:12:10.320 hanging in my home.

01:12:11.660 Do you really?

01:12:12.400 I didn't.

01:12:12.740 It gets me through the day.

01:12:14.160 Really?

01:12:14.820 Really?

01:12:15.580 Did you come up

01:12:17.100 with that yourself?

01:12:18.380 It's a sign

01:12:19.200 that I've had for years.

01:12:20.180 You've had that for years.

01:12:21.420 That's very nice.

01:12:22.760 That's very nice.

01:12:23.440 You know,

01:12:23.700 when I was writing the book,

01:12:24.580 I wanted to write about,

01:12:25.700 you know,

01:12:26.360 exactly what happened

01:12:27.440 through this last election.

01:12:29.440 It seems to be going down

01:12:30.300 a little bit.

01:12:31.620 You might lose,

01:12:33.480 Bill told me.

01:12:34.520 Right.

01:12:36.340 That's true.

01:12:37.780 He was at the end

01:12:38.720 of the excerpt

01:12:39.480 of the book.

01:12:40.540 He nailed that one.

01:12:41.880 Right.

01:12:42.140 He did.

01:12:42.740 He nailed that.

01:12:43.480 In politics,

01:12:45.980 the personal narrative

01:12:47.160 is vital.

01:12:49.220 My husband

01:12:49.800 had a powerful story

01:12:51.760 to tell.

01:12:53.000 Barack Obama

01:12:54.020 had a powerful story

01:12:55.500 to tell.

01:12:57.120 Few people would say

01:12:58.460 that my story

01:12:59.600 was quite so dazzling.

01:13:03.120 She knows she's boring. 0.99

01:13:05.480 She's actually aware of it.

01:13:06.780 And by the way,

01:13:07.120 you were reading,

01:13:08.080 you know,

01:13:09.320 Jeffy,

01:13:09.580 I appreciate your

01:13:10.240 impersonation here.

01:13:11.100 However,

01:13:11.540 holy cow, 0.51

01:13:12.260 wait a minute,

01:13:12.720 that's Jeffy?

01:13:13.640 Yeah,

01:13:14.060 no,

01:13:14.180 I know.

01:13:14.600 You started to cry.

01:13:16.480 Wow.

01:13:17.140 I had no idea.

01:13:18.880 You have way too much

01:13:19.860 inflection in your voice 0.85

01:13:20.840 for her crappy read 0.78

01:13:21.700 on this audio book.

01:13:22.520 Have you heard any of it?

01:13:23.720 It is terrible. 0.73

01:13:24.740 She is bad.

01:13:25.380 All right.

01:13:26.320 Is there more?

01:13:27.100 I grew up

01:13:28.060 in a white middle-class

01:13:29.620 family in Park Ridge.

01:13:32.300 That's a suburb

01:13:32.980 of Chicago.

01:13:34.800 My life looked like

01:13:35.900 the lives

01:13:36.500 of all the girls

01:13:37.440 I knew.

01:13:37.960 We attended

01:13:38.820 excellent public

01:13:39.840 or parochial schools

01:13:41.300 where first-rate

01:13:42.720 teachers had high

01:13:44.000 expectations.

01:13:45.560 I went to our

01:13:46.100 local Methodist church

01:13:47.360 for Sunday services

01:13:48.560 and youth activities

01:13:49.840 all week long.

01:13:51.420 I was a brownie,

01:13:52.640 then a Girl Scout.

01:13:55.240 It's a story

01:13:56.240 that many would

01:13:57.080 consider

01:13:57.720 perfectly ordinary.

01:13:59.340 What an uninspiring tale.

01:14:03.020 This is horrible.

01:14:05.460 But my story,

01:14:06.600 or at least

01:14:07.180 how I've always told it,

01:14:08.620 was never

01:14:09.680 the kind of narrative

01:14:11.080 that made anyone

01:14:12.140 sit up and take notice.

01:14:14.600 This is so sad.

01:14:16.620 We yearn for that

01:14:17.860 show-stopping tale,

01:14:19.400 that one-sentence pitch

01:14:20.580 that captures something

01:14:21.640 magical about America

01:14:22.920 that hooks you

01:14:24.220 and won't let go.

01:14:26.300 How about

01:14:26.600 not turning it socialist?

01:14:27.560 Do you have that line on you?

01:14:28.700 Mine wasn't it.

01:14:30.580 Is that she really

01:14:31.440 right that?

01:14:32.120 Mine wasn't it?

01:14:33.240 This is so depressing.

01:14:35.140 So the name

01:14:36.280 of the book is

01:14:36.860 What Happened?

01:14:39.840 And here's,

01:14:42.880 The Blaze put together

01:14:43.860 a list of

01:14:45.000 all of the excuses

01:14:46.040 from Hillary Clinton.

01:14:48.240 So what happened?

01:14:49.540 Russian interference

01:14:50.440 through disinformation

01:14:51.440 campaign,

01:14:52.380 WikiLeaks,

01:14:53.140 or Trump-Russia collusion.

01:14:54.640 James Comey's

01:14:56.380 criminal investigation

01:14:57.260 of her private

01:14:59.040 email server,

01:15:00.320 poor data voter,

01:15:01.640 sorry,

01:15:02.820 poor voter data

01:15:03.940 from the Democratic

01:15:04.920 National Committee,

01:15:07.200 poor or voter suppression

01:15:08.980 and voter ID laws,

01:15:10.900 sexism,

01:15:11.840 racism,

01:15:12.560 Barack Obama,

01:15:13.640 Bernie Sanders

01:15:14.200 and his supporters,

01:15:15.580 Jill Stein,

01:15:16.760 the mainstream media,

01:15:18.000 specifically the New York Times

01:15:19.180 for aggressively covering

01:15:20.220 her email scandal,

01:15:21.480 the Electoral College,

01:15:22.540 bad polling,

01:15:23.800 people who assumed

01:15:24.580 she would win,

01:15:25.700 gullible Americans 1.00

01:15:26.640 and fake news. 0.87

01:15:28.040 That's it though.

01:15:29.600 Are all those

01:15:30.080 legitimate excuses,

01:15:31.060 Hillary?

01:15:31.120 I mean,

01:15:31.460 are we here for your list

01:15:32.700 or my excerpts?

01:15:33.920 What Happened

01:15:36.160 is available

01:15:37.180 in bookstores everywhere

01:15:39.420 and Hillary will be 1.00

01:15:40.760 joining us again

01:15:41.520 for another inspiring,

01:15:43.560 yeah,

01:15:44.040 inspiring quote.

01:15:44.760 And if you're listening

01:15:45.360 on the radio

01:15:46.200 and you want to see

01:15:47.000 Hillary as Jeffy 0.70

01:15:49.020 on Facebook Live,

01:15:50.120 you can go there

01:15:50.560 right now and see it.

01:15:51.300 It's worth it.

01:15:52.540 Whoa.

01:15:56.760 Glenn Beck.

01:16:12.200 Love.

01:16:13.800 Courage.

01:16:15.440 Truth.

01:16:16.080 We choose to go

01:16:17.500 to the moon

01:16:18.140 in this decade

01:16:19.040 and do the other things,

01:16:20.700 not because they are easy,

01:16:22.520 but because they are hard.

01:16:24.500 That was 55 years ago today.

01:16:27.320 I don't know what it is

01:16:28.500 with the date of 9-12,

01:16:32.680 but we decided

01:16:34.400 to go to the moon

01:16:35.200 on 9-12.

01:16:37.060 That speech happened

01:16:38.040 in Houston.

01:16:40.680 Kennedy gave his famous

01:16:42.540 We choose to go

01:16:43.600 to the moon

01:16:44.160 12 years

01:16:46.080 after Sputnik.

01:16:48.060 We went from

01:16:48.880 getting laughed at

01:16:49.980 to landing

01:16:52.000 men on the moon.

01:16:54.540 October 4th,

01:16:55.640 1957,

01:16:56.660 Soviet Union

01:16:57.240 successfully launched

01:16:58.580 what was called

01:16:59.080 Sputnik

01:16:59.760 into orbit.

01:17:00.580 It was the first

01:17:01.100 satellite.

01:17:02.840 Soviets were 1.00

01:17:03.440 kicking our butt. 0.99

01:17:06.000 Two months later, 0.99

01:17:07.140 we tried to keep pace

01:17:08.460 by launching

01:17:08.920 the Vanguard TV3.

01:17:10.840 It exploded

01:17:11.680 on the launch pad.

01:17:13.160 We were the laughingstock.

01:17:16.240 But it was the Sputnik moment

01:17:18.000 that changed everything.

01:17:20.800 We realized

01:17:21.960 that we had to

01:17:23.060 roll up our sleeves

01:17:23.720 and get to work.

01:17:25.960 And thus began

01:17:27.120 the modern-day space race.

01:17:30.580 The race is, 0.66

01:17:31.840 we're already

01:17:32.660 afoot.

01:17:35.460 But space alone

01:17:37.300 was not really

01:17:41.580 the objective.

01:17:44.040 At least not

01:17:44.920 with the Soviets.

01:17:46.880 Now,

01:17:47.460 the space race

01:17:48.240 is over.

01:17:49.860 But there is

01:17:50.720 a new objective.

01:17:52.680 And this time,

01:17:54.100 the space race,

01:17:54.960 the new space race,

01:17:56.620 is on AI.

01:17:58.620 And I think

01:17:59.380 the Sputnik moment

01:18:00.220 has already occurred.

01:18:02.020 The race is on now

01:18:03.460 to be the first

01:18:04.140 to build

01:18:04.620 intelligent machines.

01:18:06.000 The nation

01:18:08.160 that develops

01:18:08.660 AI,

01:18:09.440 quote,

01:18:09.880 will be the ruler

01:18:11.080 of the world.

01:18:12.080 And that's what

01:18:12.460 Vladimir Putin said

01:18:13.460 to a group of students

01:18:14.540 last week in Russia.

01:18:16.520 This was his version

01:18:18.200 of we choose

01:18:19.120 to go to the moon.

01:18:22.000 Styles are a little 0.99

01:18:22.900 bit different.

01:18:24.120 Kennedy was at

01:18:24.760 his inspirational best.

01:18:25.940 Putin was classic Putin.

01:18:28.040 Quote,

01:18:28.360 when one party's

01:18:29.320 drones

01:18:29.740 are destroyed

01:18:31.160 by drones of another,

01:18:32.640 we will have

01:18:33.240 no choice

01:18:33.940 but to surrender.

01:18:34.780 The race now 0.98

01:18:37.500 is on

01:18:38.320 but not

01:18:39.640 towards the heavens.

01:18:42.460 What is it

01:18:43.260 we're creating now?

01:18:45.340 Last year,

01:18:46.220 the microchip maker

01:18:47.420 NVIDIA

01:18:48.280 began testing

01:18:49.280 their version

01:18:49.760 of self-driving cars

01:18:50.820 but this car

01:18:51.340 was different

01:18:51.780 than the ones

01:18:52.180 being tested

01:18:52.620 by Google

01:18:53.100 and Apple

01:18:53.640 and Tesla.

01:18:54.600 This car

01:18:55.160 was not programmed

01:18:56.200 by a human.

01:18:57.360 This car

01:18:58.080 programmed itself.

01:18:59.360 It learned

01:19:00.220 to drive

01:19:00.880 by watching

01:19:01.560 a human drive

01:19:02.720 and then it

01:19:03.300 wrote its own

01:19:03.940 program.

01:19:05.740 It's the latest

01:19:06.840 development

01:19:07.340 that AI

01:19:07.960 has

01:19:10.060 and

01:19:10.500 has all

01:19:11.980 of its supporters

01:19:12.800 excited

01:19:14.820 and all of its

01:19:15.560 naysayers

01:19:16.320 scared.

01:19:17.600 It's called

01:19:18.640 deep learning.

01:19:22.020 And the problem

01:19:23.100 is

01:19:23.380 some of these

01:19:23.940 systems are

01:19:24.400 becoming so complex

01:19:25.420 that the human

01:19:26.480 creators don't

01:19:27.400 even understand

01:19:28.360 them anymore.

01:19:29.740 Machines

01:19:30.320 that are writing

01:19:31.020 their own code

01:19:31.980 and learning

01:19:32.620 how to make

01:19:33.180 decisions

01:19:33.740 without being

01:19:34.300 prompted

01:19:34.740 to do so.

01:19:36.360 Their style

01:19:36.960 of reason

01:19:37.620 and thought

01:19:38.140 is completely

01:19:38.980 alien to the

01:19:40.080 researchers

01:19:40.560 trying to figure

01:19:41.500 it out.

01:19:42.400 Trying to figure

01:19:43.000 out what we

01:19:43.860 created.

01:19:45.580 This is what

01:19:46.500 the world

01:19:46.900 is racing

01:19:47.480 to create.

01:19:48.580 Super intelligence

01:19:49.720 that learns

01:19:50.760 on its own,

01:19:51.940 thinks in a

01:19:52.540 completely alien

01:19:53.580 way,

01:19:54.300 and has no

01:19:56.000 human morality.

01:19:56.940 With the way

01:19:59.560 we're going

01:19:59.900 with human

01:20:00.280 morality right

01:20:00.960 now, maybe

01:20:01.340 that's a good

01:20:01.820 thing, but

01:20:02.480 the question

01:20:03.460 is, the

01:20:04.960 AI race is

01:20:06.080 on and

01:20:06.820 Putin has

01:20:07.500 just given

01:20:08.160 his go to

01:20:09.340 the moon

01:20:09.700 speech, but

01:20:12.440 55 years from

01:20:13.600 now, will

01:20:14.200 history remember

01:20:15.240 us as the

01:20:16.080 winners or

01:20:17.220 the losers

01:20:17.840 of the AI

01:20:19.540 race, no 0.93

01:20:20.620 matter which

01:20:21.240 side wins?

01:20:26.940 It's Tuesday,

01:20:30.200 September 12th.

01:20:31.420 This is the

01:20:32.520 Glenn Beck

01:20:32.940 Program.

01:20:33.820 29-year-old

01:20:35.380 advertising guy

01:20:36.480 sits down

01:20:37.980 and he writes

01:20:39.360 a book for

01:20:39.800 his two

01:20:40.160 daughters.

01:20:41.780 He makes

01:20:42.820 copies of it

01:20:43.720 and he gives

01:20:45.040 it to some

01:20:45.480 friends and

01:20:46.980 it starts to

01:20:47.760 be passed

01:20:48.420 around and

01:20:49.560 pretty soon

01:20:50.040 people are

01:20:50.560 calling the

01:20:51.180 bookstore saying

01:20:51.980 how can I

01:20:52.760 get a copy

01:20:53.260 of this book?

01:20:55.020 They don't

01:20:55.360 even know

01:20:55.680 what it is.

01:20:57.320 Because it

01:20:58.160 was just a

01:20:58.960 Xerox copy

01:21:01.180 of something

01:21:01.720 that the

01:21:02.080 guy had

01:21:02.560 written for

01:21:03.080 his daughters.

01:21:05.720 It wasn't

01:21:06.480 too much

01:21:06.740 longer that

01:21:07.540 there were

01:21:07.880 8 million

01:21:08.840 copies of

01:21:09.500 that one

01:21:09.920 book in

01:21:10.580 print and

01:21:11.260 a number

01:21:11.560 one television

01:21:12.220 movie of

01:21:12.660 the year.

01:21:13.020 It was

01:21:13.140 called The

01:21:13.480 Christmas

01:21:13.840 Box.

01:21:15.220 The author,

01:21:16.160 the dad,

01:21:16.820 the advertising

01:21:17.480 guy was

01:21:18.080 Richard Paul

01:21:18.620 Evans.

01:21:19.040 He sold

01:21:19.340 more than

01:21:19.700 17 million

01:21:20.980 books,

01:21:21.800 written 26

01:21:22.640 novels,

01:21:23.660 four of his

01:21:24.160 books had

01:21:24.540 been made

01:21:24.880 into television

01:21:25.540 movies.

01:21:26.940 In 2011,

01:21:28.960 he called

01:21:29.420 me and

01:21:29.900 he said,

01:21:30.560 I have

01:21:31.140 this idea

01:21:31.840 for a

01:21:32.300 seven-book

01:21:32.820 series.

01:21:33.280 It's called

01:21:34.360 Michael

01:21:34.820 Vey.

01:21:37.060 And it

01:21:37.940 is a story

01:21:39.000 that I've

01:21:40.200 just been

01:21:40.640 told by

01:21:41.240 publishers is

01:21:42.080 too smart

01:21:42.800 to be a

01:21:43.420 kid's book.

01:21:44.040 and I

01:21:46.400 said,

01:21:46.640 don't ever

01:21:47.240 underestimate

01:21:47.860 the youth.

01:21:50.360 He said,

01:21:51.200 write.

01:21:53.380 He sent

01:21:54.160 me a copy

01:21:54.720 of the

01:21:55.100 first book

01:21:55.780 and Mercury

01:21:57.340 Inc.

01:21:58.760 said,

01:21:59.200 we will

01:21:59.740 help you

01:22:00.260 publish this.

01:22:01.860 It's now

01:22:02.460 been a

01:22:02.720 bestseller

01:22:03.160 and the

01:22:03.520 seventh

01:22:04.040 novel is

01:22:05.340 out now.

01:22:06.020 It is

01:22:06.280 the last

01:22:07.020 Michael

01:22:07.880 Vey,

01:22:08.420 the final

01:22:08.960 spark.

01:22:09.660 It comes

01:22:09.960 out today.

01:22:10.840 And if

01:22:12.420 I have

01:22:12.960 not read

01:22:13.500 this one,

01:22:13.920 if it

01:22:14.140 is like

01:22:14.520 the other

01:22:15.100 six,

01:22:16.460 it is

01:22:17.380 going to

01:22:17.740 be thrilling

01:22:18.720 to the

01:22:19.420 end and

01:22:20.540 I'm going

01:22:20.960 to be

01:22:21.360 really upset

01:22:22.420 that it

01:22:22.880 is the

01:22:23.180 last one.

01:22:24.640 Richard

01:22:25.080 Paul Evans,

01:22:25.580 welcome.

01:22:26.400 Good to be

01:22:26.680 here, Glenn.

01:22:27.080 Thank you.

01:22:28.180 So is

01:22:28.940 this really

01:22:29.520 the last

01:22:30.000 one?

01:22:31.020 I don't

01:22:31.580 know.

01:22:32.900 It is

01:22:33.540 for right

01:22:34.020 now because

01:22:34.480 I've been

01:22:34.780 writing three

01:22:35.260 books a

01:22:35.640 year and

01:22:36.020 they offered

01:22:37.060 me a

01:22:37.520 million dollars

01:22:38.180 to write

01:22:38.940 the next

01:22:39.520 one.

01:22:39.760 I said,

01:22:40.060 I will

01:22:40.460 have to

01:22:40.980 write it

01:22:41.260 from a

01:22:41.540 psych ward.

01:22:42.100 I go,

01:22:42.400 I am writing

01:22:44.080 non-stop.

01:22:45.080 I have no

01:22:45.460 life.

01:22:45.920 It's like,

01:22:46.100 I will

01:22:46.300 snap.

01:22:47.120 I can't.

01:22:48.580 So I need

01:22:49.160 basically a

01:22:49.920 year.

01:22:50.440 I still have

01:22:51.040 other contracts,

01:22:51.800 finish them

01:22:52.180 out, and

01:22:53.140 then maybe

01:22:53.460 come back.

01:22:54.380 And part

01:22:54.900 of me doesn't

01:22:55.440 want to do

01:22:56.240 that because

01:22:56.780 I love to

01:22:57.800 keep something

01:22:58.220 just special.

01:22:59.180 And this

01:22:59.460 one was,

01:23:00.100 I mean,

01:23:00.380 when you

01:23:00.720 first talked

01:23:01.240 to me about

01:23:01.800 it,

01:23:02.080 you were

01:23:03.060 really,

01:23:03.680 really clear

01:23:04.380 that this

01:23:05.980 wasn't,

01:23:06.800 this was

01:23:07.180 almost downloaded

01:23:07.940 to you.

01:23:08.560 Still is.

01:23:09.080 Someone asked

01:23:10.320 me how the

01:23:10.680 book ends

01:23:11.120 and I go,

01:23:12.080 I look at

01:23:13.100 book seven

01:23:13.600 and there were

01:23:14.040 things in

01:23:14.440 book one

01:23:14.980 that if I

01:23:15.880 had not put

01:23:16.500 them there,

01:23:17.460 book seven

01:23:18.480 would not have

01:23:19.340 been possible.

01:23:20.560 And when I put

01:23:21.120 them in the

01:23:21.460 first book,

01:23:22.000 I thought,

01:23:22.480 where is this

01:23:22.800 going?

01:23:23.300 Why is he

01:23:24.300 growing in

01:23:24.920 power?

01:23:25.300 That has no

01:23:25.820 point in the

01:23:26.420 book.

01:23:27.020 There are some

01:23:27.380 things that

01:23:27.740 were happening

01:23:28.320 that became

01:23:29.100 completely relevant

01:23:30.360 and I didn't

01:23:30.820 know it until

01:23:31.400 the last year.

01:23:31.980 why is this

01:23:34.220 book downloaded

01:23:34.900 like that to

01:23:35.480 you?

01:23:35.940 Because I

01:23:36.500 think there's

01:23:36.920 a deeper

01:23:37.520 message.

01:23:38.200 I think it's

01:23:38.500 a very

01:23:38.740 spiritual

01:23:39.160 message.

01:23:39.720 It's by

01:23:40.040 far the

01:23:40.540 most complex

01:23:41.180 thing I've

01:23:41.540 ever written

01:23:42.020 even though

01:23:42.520 it's for

01:23:43.040 you.

01:23:43.260 It's unbelievably

01:23:43.720 and it's

01:23:44.420 so consistent.

01:23:45.440 I mean,

01:23:46.200 you've been

01:23:46.880 writing this

01:23:47.220 for eight

01:23:47.480 years,

01:23:47.760 nine years?

01:23:48.240 Seven years.

01:23:48.760 Seven years?

01:23:49.880 And I

01:23:51.720 picked it up.

01:23:52.600 I've only read

01:23:52.960 the first chapter

01:23:54.040 of this one,

01:23:54.700 but it picks up

01:23:55.880 right exactly

01:23:56.900 where it was

01:23:57.760 and I mean

01:23:58.820 the complexity

01:23:59.740 of this story.

01:24:01.600 Over seven

01:24:02.440 years and

01:24:03.120 seven books

01:24:03.680 is really

01:24:04.340 difficult.

01:24:05.200 Right.

01:24:05.380 The French

01:24:05.720 publisher said

01:24:06.480 we want an

01:24:07.380 ark for the

01:24:08.000 whole thing.

01:24:08.380 I said,

01:24:08.620 I have no

01:24:09.080 ark.

01:24:09.480 I don't know

01:24:09.860 where it's

01:24:10.080 going.

01:24:10.660 I don't

01:24:10.920 know how

01:24:11.200 it ends.

01:24:12.000 And it

01:24:12.200 really wasn't

01:24:12.820 until about

01:24:13.380 nine months

01:24:13.840 ago that I

01:24:14.340 thought,

01:24:14.640 oh my

01:24:14.920 goodness,

01:24:15.900 really,

01:24:16.380 that's what

01:24:16.660 happens.

01:24:17.160 I go,

01:24:17.300 this has

01:24:17.580 actually followed

01:24:18.540 some sacred

01:24:19.720 scripture all

01:24:20.360 the way through.

01:24:21.320 I go,

01:24:21.460 this is kind

01:24:21.900 of amazing.

01:24:23.140 You know,

01:24:23.360 I told you

01:24:24.040 at the beginning

01:24:24.400 the names

01:24:24.960 were downloaded

01:24:25.500 to me and

01:24:26.140 then I realized

01:24:26.720 that their

01:24:29.740 that's just

01:24:30.940 a bizarre

01:24:31.280 coincidence.

01:24:32.140 But I have

01:24:32.620 found more

01:24:33.700 coincidences like

01:24:34.600 that throughout

01:24:34.940 the book.

01:24:36.160 And you

01:24:36.640 think that

01:24:37.280 this book

01:24:38.200 is, I

01:24:38.940 mean, it

01:24:39.360 is my

01:24:40.140 son.

01:24:41.260 I don't

01:24:41.960 think my

01:24:42.800 son has

01:24:43.560 enjoyed a

01:24:44.460 series.

01:24:47.580 I don't

01:24:48.160 even think

01:24:48.460 Percy Jackson

01:24:49.120 he made it

01:24:49.540 all through

01:24:49.840 all of them

01:24:50.340 and liked

01:24:51.640 them towards

01:24:52.280 the end.

01:24:53.300 And this

01:24:53.840 has been

01:24:54.140 seven years

01:24:55.260 and every

01:24:56.200 summer we

01:24:56.760 read it

01:24:57.240 and love

01:24:59.100 it every

01:24:59.900 single time.

01:25:00.660 It's a

01:25:00.840 tradition with

01:25:01.520 us.

01:25:02.320 And I

01:25:03.760 don't think

01:25:04.060 there's another

01:25:04.540 book series

01:25:05.280 that he has

01:25:06.200 made it all

01:25:06.840 the way through

01:25:07.280 that he has

01:25:07.820 liked all the

01:25:08.300 way through

01:25:08.580 because he

01:25:08.960 grew, you

01:25:09.440 know, seven

01:25:09.800 years.

01:25:10.480 That's half

01:25:10.820 his life.

01:25:11.900 And he's

01:25:12.580 grown up with

01:25:13.240 this now.

01:25:13.940 And he, it's

01:25:15.260 still as relevant

01:25:16.520 to him now.

01:25:17.600 You know, you

01:25:17.900 think, you know,

01:25:18.400 you're 13 years

01:25:19.160 old.

01:25:19.480 Okay.

01:25:19.960 It's a, it's

01:25:20.700 not, it's

01:25:21.860 not, you

01:25:23.320 know, and he's

01:25:23.800 reading, he's

01:25:25.240 reading everything.

01:25:26.100 Jesus summary.

01:25:27.040 He was reading

01:25:27.900 it for the

01:25:28.600 love of

01:25:28.900 Pete.

01:25:30.540 But he

01:25:31.980 loves it and

01:25:32.720 he loves the

01:25:33.540 messages in

01:25:34.260 it.

01:25:34.480 And it's

01:25:36.040 pretty remarkable

01:25:37.140 what's happening

01:25:37.900 with the, the

01:25:39.460 youth that are

01:25:40.060 reading it.

01:25:41.460 I, that's

01:25:42.520 absolutely true.

01:25:43.340 I had a

01:25:44.040 young woman.

01:25:44.940 Well, you'll

01:25:45.400 remember our

01:25:45.740 first book

01:25:46.060 signings that

01:25:46.480 they were

01:25:46.820 like mostly

01:25:47.260 adults.

01:25:47.740 They look

01:25:48.080 like my

01:25:48.400 adult book

01:25:48.840 signings with

01:25:49.220 a few

01:25:49.480 kids.

01:25:50.540 My, we

01:25:51.060 just did the

01:25:51.520 launch party

01:25:52.000 for Michael

01:25:52.420 Vey.

01:25:52.680 We had

01:25:52.980 between

01:25:53.240 four and

01:25:53.800 five thousand

01:25:54.720 kids come

01:25:55.340 to it.

01:25:56.200 So, but a

01:25:57.160 few weeks

01:25:57.440 ago I received

01:25:57.860 a letter from

01:25:58.400 a young

01:25:58.940 woman in

01:25:59.460 Paris and

01:26:00.660 she said,

01:26:01.080 Mr. Evans,

01:26:01.480 you've probably

01:26:01.840 been wondering

01:26:02.300 where I've

01:26:02.720 been.

01:26:03.580 And I said to

01:26:04.300 my assistant,

01:26:04.720 who is this?

01:26:05.540 I mean, she

01:26:06.280 goes, oh, she

01:26:06.840 writes about

01:26:07.200 every week and

01:26:08.520 she says, I'm

01:26:09.340 not doing well.

01:26:10.060 I'm in the

01:26:10.360 hospital.

01:26:10.760 I tried to 0.88

01:26:11.220 kill myself. 0.52

01:26:12.460 She said, I have 1.00

01:26:12.980 one friend in

01:26:13.540 this world and

01:26:14.060 it's Michael

01:26:14.480 Vey.

01:26:14.760 and he gives

01:26:15.900 me the

01:26:16.140 strength to

01:26:16.480 go on.

01:26:16.900 Thank you.

01:26:18.200 And I

01:26:18.960 said, let's

01:26:20.360 get her 0.89

01:26:20.700 immediately.

01:26:21.380 And I

01:26:21.660 told her that

01:26:22.320 Michael loves

01:26:22.840 her.

01:26:23.060 I love

01:26:23.480 her.

01:26:24.000 And that

01:26:24.240 just how

01:26:24.600 Michael has

01:26:25.240 to face

01:26:25.580 the

01:26:25.740 Elgin and

01:26:26.200 his

01:26:26.340 doctor

01:26:26.600 hatches, 0.99

01:26:27.500 you will

01:26:27.820 too, but

01:26:28.140 you're going

01:26:28.380 to do

01:26:28.560 okay.

01:26:29.340 And just

01:26:29.580 hang in

01:26:29.920 there.

01:26:30.080 This is a

01:26:30.420 hard time

01:26:30.760 of life.

01:26:31.700 And I

01:26:31.940 think that's

01:26:32.260 why I

01:26:32.500 have so

01:26:32.800 many youth

01:26:33.640 who have

01:26:34.260 disabilities,

01:26:35.060 who have

01:26:35.280 struggles.

01:26:36.420 Even at

01:26:36.880 my book

01:26:37.220 signing, one

01:26:37.740 group came

01:26:38.480 and I

01:26:38.720 held one

01:26:39.400 young woman,

01:26:39.760 she kept

01:26:40.020 crying.

01:26:40.380 She said,

01:26:40.720 my father

01:26:41.180 died during

01:26:42.160 the second

01:26:42.560 book.

01:26:43.440 She goes,

01:26:43.840 Michael Vey

01:26:44.320 has been

01:26:45.440 there with

01:26:45.820 me the

01:26:46.080 whole time

01:26:46.660 through it.

01:26:47.640 Because I

01:26:48.280 don't know

01:26:48.520 what to do

01:26:48.780 now that

01:26:49.520 the seventh

01:26:49.840 book is

01:26:50.480 out.

01:26:51.220 So the

01:26:51.560 book means,

01:26:52.780 to me it's

01:26:53.180 a very

01:26:53.460 spiritual

01:26:54.000 book in

01:26:54.400 a sense

01:26:54.740 that it's

01:26:56.000 here to

01:26:56.420 heal and

01:26:57.060 to help

01:26:57.340 kids.

01:26:57.960 Tell the

01:26:58.500 story for

01:26:58.960 anybody who

01:26:59.420 hasn't read

01:26:59.920 it.

01:27:00.660 Tell the

01:27:00.980 story.

01:27:01.840 Michael is

01:27:02.480 a 15

01:27:03.060 year old

01:27:03.320 boy with

01:27:03.680 Tourette

01:27:04.040 syndrome who

01:27:04.620 discovers

01:27:05.160 he has

01:27:06.340 electricity in

01:27:07.040 his body

01:27:07.440 and he

01:27:08.620 can shock

01:27:09.340 people.

01:27:09.760 But he

01:27:10.460 doesn't know

01:27:11.100 what this

01:27:11.420 is about

01:27:11.820 and why

01:27:12.200 he has

01:27:12.560 this power.

01:27:13.480 He learns

01:27:14.180 that he's

01:27:14.480 one of

01:27:14.740 17 kids

01:27:15.560 who were

01:27:16.040 an accident

01:27:16.900 through

01:27:17.500 kind of

01:27:18.080 an MRI

01:27:18.480 machine.

01:27:19.920 And that

01:27:21.400 there's a

01:27:21.700 group trying

01:27:22.040 to find

01:27:22.400 them.

01:27:22.860 Because they

01:27:23.440 realize that

01:27:24.100 they can

01:27:24.340 create a

01:27:24.720 better race

01:27:25.260 than what's

01:27:25.640 on this

01:27:25.940 earth right

01:27:26.380 now.

01:27:27.280 And that's

01:27:27.640 what it's

01:27:27.840 about.

01:27:28.280 There were

01:27:28.460 a lot more

01:27:28.840 than 17

01:27:29.380 kids who

01:27:29.800 were accidents

01:27:30.260 in this

01:27:30.600 world.

01:27:31.320 You should

01:27:31.620 know that.

01:27:32.100 There's

01:27:32.400 been a lot

01:27:32.720 of crazy

01:27:33.040 things that

01:27:33.440 have happened

01:27:33.780 just to be

01:27:34.240 clear.

01:27:36.180 You

01:27:36.540 have

01:27:39.760 Tourette's.

01:27:40.620 Your son

01:27:41.240 has Tourette's.

01:27:42.360 Yes.

01:27:43.300 But this

01:27:43.820 is not

01:27:44.600 what's

01:27:45.140 interesting

01:27:45.760 about this

01:27:46.400 is I

01:27:47.020 think there

01:27:47.440 is every

01:27:48.220 kid is

01:27:49.780 in this

01:27:50.140 book.

01:27:50.800 No matter

01:27:51.600 if you

01:27:52.140 were the

01:27:52.580 outcast or

01:27:53.420 you were

01:27:53.660 the popular

01:27:54.280 one.

01:27:55.400 You were 0.94

01:27:55.980 the bully

01:27:57.220 or you

01:27:57.840 were bullied.

01:27:59.260 Every kid

01:28:00.380 is in this

01:28:01.220 book.

01:28:01.520 And I

01:28:03.720 think that

01:28:04.480 is the

01:28:04.880 secret of

01:28:05.440 this is

01:28:06.100 they

01:28:06.420 everybody

01:28:07.880 every kid

01:28:08.620 who reads

01:28:09.040 it sees

01:28:09.740 themselves

01:28:10.180 finds

01:28:10.940 themselves

01:28:11.580 in that

01:28:12.760 character or

01:28:13.440 you knew

01:28:14.020 that character

01:28:14.660 growing up.

01:28:16.240 I agree.

01:28:17.460 And I

01:28:17.660 you know

01:28:18.280 what's been

01:28:18.520 interesting

01:28:18.880 about this

01:28:19.280 Glenn is

01:28:19.660 that the

01:28:20.440 publishing

01:28:20.840 world has

01:28:21.560 largely ignored

01:28:22.360 it.

01:28:23.560 The day

01:28:23.880 it was

01:28:24.220 remember

01:28:24.720 we're

01:28:24.920 sitting here

01:28:25.340 and the

01:28:25.580 book was

01:28:25.880 number one

01:28:26.540 in the

01:28:26.720 New York

01:28:26.960 Times.

01:28:27.960 And the

01:28:28.160 Wall Street

01:28:28.420 Journal did

01:28:28.780 a story on

01:28:29.340 the next

01:28:29.700 big YA book

01:28:30.860 and it

01:28:31.160 didn't even

01:28:31.600 mention

01:28:32.060 Michael

01:28:32.380 Vey.

01:28:32.700 It was

01:28:33.180 not only

01:28:33.960 number one

01:28:34.420 it was

01:28:34.740 six times

01:28:35.520 higher than

01:28:36.100 the book

01:28:36.340 next to

01:28:36.760 it.

01:28:37.520 Even

01:28:37.760 today it's

01:28:38.340 like I

01:28:38.600 had a

01:28:38.800 book signing

01:28:39.140 with 5,000

01:28:39.840 people and

01:28:40.720 I don't

01:28:41.580 know.

01:28:42.540 I don't

01:28:42.840 know.

01:28:43.100 I've been

01:28:44.020 attacked by

01:28:44.780 having a

01:28:45.180 male hero

01:28:45.720 as if this

01:28:46.740 is a bad

01:28:47.320 thing.

01:28:47.640 Boys need 0.99

01:28:48.320 heroes right

01:28:48.900 now so bad.

01:28:49.860 Big time.

01:28:50.540 Yeah.

01:28:50.820 This is really

01:28:51.640 you know what I

01:28:52.460 compare this to

01:28:53.180 is the

01:28:56.420 Flash series

01:28:57.280 now that's

01:28:58.020 now on

01:28:58.480 television where

01:28:59.760 it's a

01:29:00.400 it's a

01:29:01.140 boy hero

01:29:01.980 he's he's

01:29:03.640 a great

01:29:04.440 role model

01:29:05.140 loves his

01:29:06.440 parents has

01:29:07.980 all of these

01:29:08.580 great things

01:29:09.300 going for

01:29:10.280 him and

01:29:11.400 I think it's

01:29:13.520 what people

01:29:14.100 want but I

01:29:14.760 don't think

01:29:15.060 that's what the

01:29:15.520 media wants.

01:29:16.560 I don't think

01:29:16.920 they they don't

01:29:17.540 want that.

01:29:18.160 They don't want

01:29:18.700 something that

01:29:19.420 you know a

01:29:20.180 boy who loves

01:29:21.100 his mother and

01:29:21.960 treats his

01:29:22.420 mother with

01:29:22.840 respect and

01:29:23.520 treats others

01:29:24.020 with respect and

01:29:24.820 does the right

01:29:25.420 thing and yes he

01:29:26.460 is the hero of

01:29:27.380 the story and

01:29:28.380 while there are

01:29:28.860 other girls 0.95

01:29:29.420 around that

01:29:29.980 also are

01:29:30.880 heroines in

01:29:31.520 the story you

01:29:32.880 know they're

01:29:33.180 they're separate

01:29:33.980 and distinct and

01:29:34.780 they all have

01:29:35.280 their own thing.

01:29:36.580 I don't think

01:29:36.840 that's what I

01:29:37.860 don't think

01:29:38.120 that's what that's

01:29:39.420 what the people

01:29:39.920 want.

01:29:40.500 I don't think

01:29:40.820 that's what

01:29:41.120 culture is saying

01:29:41.960 that is

01:29:42.780 acceptable.

01:29:43.500 That's exactly

01:29:44.180 right.

01:29:44.920 That's true.

01:29:45.680 We see it like

01:29:46.940 when they came out

01:29:47.380 with Maze Runner

01:29:48.040 and it was a it

01:29:49.460 was a young boy

01:29:50.600 series and it

01:29:51.420 was one of the

01:29:51.960 few YA books

01:29:53.180 that made money

01:29:53.860 in the movies

01:29:54.500 and it's like

01:29:55.720 well big big

01:29:56.440 surprise like

01:29:57.020 well boys like

01:29:58.180 this they want

01:29:59.020 to read and

01:29:59.580 the girls will 0.99

01:30:00.200 read either way

01:30:01.660 now there's some

01:30:02.860 very very strong

01:30:03.940 girl characters

01:30:04.640 Taylor is just

01:30:05.620 as strong as

01:30:06.280 Michael he takes

01:30:08.440 counsel from her

01:30:09.240 this isn't this

01:30:10.120 isn't a gender 0.99

01:30:10.860 war these are

01:30:12.180 people trying to

01:30:13.480 get along and

01:30:14.500 like you said I

01:30:15.120 remember a school

01:30:15.720 teacher saying to

01:30:16.400 me Michael loves

01:30:18.020 his mother she

01:30:18.660 was like freaked

01:30:19.120 out like he

01:30:20.700 loves his mother

01:30:21.160 he says so it's

01:30:22.080 like well yeah

01:30:23.160 most boys do love

01:30:24.320 their mother

01:30:24.700 that's this is

01:30:25.480 reality and so

01:30:26.740 I think Michael

01:30:27.700 they has this

01:30:28.360 truth to it that

01:30:29.220 resonates with

01:30:29.900 kids it's also I

01:30:31.300 just I hear from

01:30:32.560 I hear every

01:30:34.360 single day multiple

01:30:35.660 letters every day

01:30:36.600 for the last seven

01:30:37.260 years saying you

01:30:37.760 got my kid to

01:30:38.360 read and when I

01:30:39.460 hear it's I every

01:30:40.720 single day it's

01:30:41.460 like this is the

01:30:42.400 only book or only

01:30:43.620 series my kid has

01:30:44.960 ever read especially

01:30:45.880 the reluctant male

01:30:46.860 readers yeah one

01:30:47.840 school teacher said

01:30:48.500 18 years is the

01:30:49.560 first time every

01:30:50.300 student in class

01:30:50.920 finished the

01:30:51.520 assignment one boy

01:30:52.720 took his grade from

01:30:53.860 an F to an A

01:30:55.060 minus because he

01:30:55.980 practically memorized

01:30:57.260 Michael Vey and I

01:30:58.980 said well because

01:30:59.560 you have to give

01:31:00.000 them books they

01:31:00.440 like to read I was

01:31:01.360 a reluctant reader

01:31:02.180 yeah so was I I

01:31:03.580 didn't read till I

01:31:04.160 read I found the

01:31:04.760 Hobbit the Hobbit

01:31:06.280 changed my world I

01:31:07.560 realized that reading

01:31:08.460 actually could be fun

01:31:09.500 and the Hobbit's a

01:31:10.960 very intelligent book

01:31:11.980 right yeah and I

01:31:13.020 pick it up it's like

01:31:13.820 there's no pictures in

01:31:14.620 here why would I want

01:31:15.260 to read this right

01:31:15.900 the next thing I know

01:31:16.760 it's like I want to

01:31:18.780 be for me it was

01:31:20.020 for me it was

01:31:20.820 Sherlock Holmes and

01:31:22.640 I think and I think

01:31:24.460 this happens with

01:31:25.300 with with Michael

01:31:27.140 Vey I read Sherlock

01:31:29.040 Holmes I was probably

01:31:30.080 18 maybe 19 years

01:31:31.860 old hated reading

01:31:33.460 found that book and

01:31:36.080 I read it I think

01:31:37.380 two or three times

01:31:38.140 because I was like

01:31:38.740 no other book could

01:31:39.720 be this I mean this

01:31:40.800 is really good right

01:31:41.820 and so you just read

01:31:43.460 it over and over

01:31:43.920 again until you until

01:31:45.120 you get sick of it

01:31:45.800 and you're like what

01:31:46.820 if there's something

01:31:47.460 else and then once

01:31:48.640 you go down that

01:31:49.300 rabbit hole Rafe

01:31:50.580 hated to read he

01:31:52.760 told me he must

01:31:54.540 have been six right

01:31:55.960 around this time

01:31:56.860 never gonna I don't

01:31:58.480 like to read dad I

01:31:59.600 don't like to read

01:32:00.120 books I don't now

01:32:01.840 Tonya and I feel

01:32:02.880 like the worst

01:32:03.520 parent in the world

01:32:04.160 because we're always

01:32:04.820 saying you say that

01:32:06.000 to him I'm not going

01:32:06.620 to say that to him

01:32:07.240 put the book down

01:32:08.440 go out and do

01:32:09.960 something go play a

01:32:10.880 video game put the

01:32:11.800 book down go put the

01:32:14.240 book down and I

01:32:16.900 think Michael Vey had

01:32:17.660 a lot to do with

01:32:18.280 that if the book

01:32:19.360 comes out today if

01:32:20.840 you have not read

01:32:22.280 the series this is

01:32:23.620 the last in the

01:32:24.400 series does it have

01:32:24.960 a satisfying ending

01:32:25.740 yes it has a very

01:32:28.280 powerful ending does

01:32:29.720 it have a death star

01:32:30.360 in it no and no

01:32:32.060 Tyrannosaurus Rex

01:32:32.880 but I read the last

01:32:35.000 page to my assistant

01:32:35.980 and she broke down

01:32:36.680 crying and she goes

01:32:38.080 my friends you'll

01:32:40.060 love you'll love

01:32:40.700 you'll love the

01:32:41.420 ending the big

01:32:42.080 question is where's

01:32:42.740 Michael Vey it will

01:32:44.700 it will shock you no

01:32:45.740 pun intended when

01:32:47.000 when you find out

01:32:47.720 what's really going

01:32:48.860 on there's so many

01:32:49.760 reveals you'll feel

01:32:50.920 like wow after seven

01:32:52.460 years I finally get

01:32:53.180 it is there is there

01:32:54.360 a TV show coming

01:32:55.220 looks like it at the

01:32:57.800 launch party we had

01:32:58.520 Hollywood executives

01:32:59.380 there excellent and

01:33:00.920 they the crowd was

01:33:03.360 crazy excellent excellent

01:33:05.600 this will be a great

01:33:07.000 TV show it is a great

01:33:09.360 series pick it up

01:33:10.580 Michael Vey the final

01:33:11.920 spark if you haven't

01:33:13.500 started start from the

01:33:15.580 beginning you will not

01:33:16.720 regret it and you read

01:33:17.760 it with your kids it is

01:33:18.780 a fantastic series

01:33:20.040 Michael Vey the final

01:33:27.740 spark is the seventh

01:33:28.700 book in the Michael

01:33:29.440 Vey series you can you

01:33:30.840 can buy all of them he

01:33:31.660 didn't take the other

01:33:32.340 ones off the market so

01:33:33.200 you can catch up

01:33:33.700 whenever you want we'll

01:33:37.000 about Rick's story Rick

01:33:40.420 a 91 year old father he

01:33:42.780 was ready to move into

01:33:44.000 an assisted living home

01:33:45.340 but that left Rick

01:33:49.540 selling his dad's home

01:33:51.400 Rick went to real

01:33:54.260 estate agents I trust

01:33:55.200 calm and found an agent

01:33:57.300 right away named Aaron

01:33:58.680 and Aaron took that

01:34:00.720 stressful situation as

01:34:02.020 they're moving Rick's

01:34:02.900 dad into an assisted

01:34:04.620 living home you know we

01:34:06.760 got to clean out dad's

01:34:07.820 house we got to coordinate

01:34:09.080 the repairs Aaron helps

01:34:11.020 with all of that Aaron's

01:34:12.560 team top-notch got Rick's

01:34:40.120 estate agents I trust

01:34:41.380 calm

01:34:42.200 we we I want to come

01:34:53.480 back if we don't have

01:34:54.440 time today I want to come

01:34:55.740 back tomorrow to Jim

01:34:57.260 Carey this audio that is

01:34:59.680 that came out yesterday is

01:35:01.740 disturbing I think what do

01:35:03.260 you think of that it was

01:35:04.360 bizarre yeah completely

01:35:06.020 bizarre but that's kind of

01:35:07.000 him right you don't think

01:35:08.980 that that's his I think

01:35:10.420 there's no I think there

01:35:11.920 is I just I don't have a

01:35:13.620 good feeling about this

01:35:15.060 because the last clip we

01:35:15.880 played was really him

01:35:17.500 being introspective and

01:35:18.880 talking about faith and it

01:35:20.020 was great yeah so he's

01:35:22.260 either he's either really

01:35:23.860 gotten it or he's gone

01:35:26.080 over the edge I'm not sure

01:35:27.380 which and it's a fine line

01:35:28.800 he's he's almost nihilistic

01:35:31.020 in what he said today now

01:35:33.140 you know there's nothing of

01:35:34.740 value here none of this

01:35:36.000 celebrity stuff means

01:35:37.180 anything that's all good

01:35:38.500 but is that is that as

01:35:40.920 far as he's going you know

01:35:42.600 what I mean is that what

01:35:43.280 he's saying or is he like

01:35:44.420 no nothing has meaning I'm

01:35:47.040 not sure it was a very

01:35:48.780 bizarre interview especially

01:35:49.720 if you watch it you can

01:35:50.500 check it at the blaze.com

01:35:52.000 also today at five o'clock

01:35:54.280 on the blaze TV doing a

01:35:56.000 specials do and I are going

01:35:57.660 to take you behind the

01:35:58.660 scenes on 912 this is the

01:36:01.380 day that we started the

01:36:02.420 network this is the day that

01:36:04.060 we changed our lives this

01:36:06.340 was the 912 project this is

01:36:07.920 a really important day for

01:36:09.020 us yeah it really is and

01:36:10.520 there's a lot of I mean we

01:36:11.480 have a lot of cool clips from

01:36:13.020 back in the day going through

01:36:14.340 all these events and behind the

01:36:16.020 scenes stories etc etc and your

01:36:17.780 phone calls tonight five o'clock

01:36:20.500 the blaze TV

01:36:21.660 Glenn Beck

01:36:24.000 this is the Glenn Beck program

01:36:31.340 we have Hillary Clinton still 1.00

01:36:34.140 coming up in studio in just a few

01:36:37.000 minutes that you don't want to

01:36:38.300 miss

01:36:38.500 I saw her out in the in the

01:36:40.940 hallway she's how was that quite

01:36:42.560 lovely yes

01:36:43.320 surprisingly beautiful was it

01:36:46.020 was it awkward for you a tad you

01:36:50.280 know yeah we have said some

01:36:51.380 things about her but she seemed

01:36:52.760 to be understanding so she'll

01:36:54.000 be she'll be joining us here and

01:36:55.460 reading excerpts from her new

01:36:56.680 book very nice which is which is

01:36:58.580 out called what happened don't

01:37:02.980 want to miss that so Pat is here

01:37:05.340 yesterday Pat started his own

01:37:06.760 radio program on the blaze radio

01:37:08.220 immediately following this program

01:37:10.020 and you can find that at the

01:37:12.320 blaze.com on TV and radio and it

01:37:15.600 went really well yesterday people

01:37:17.800 were like wow he like wow can he

01:37:20.200 talk by himself he can do that

01:37:22.180 yeah we're like he can't walk at

01:37:24.160 the same time right no well we

01:37:25.760 haven't we're not even asking we're

01:37:27.060 not we're not trying that we're

01:37:28.200 not gonna try that right now you're

01:37:29.520 bringing us some news today about

01:37:30.980 Miss America the Miss America

01:37:32.760 pageant happened and the 1.00

01:37:33.840 contestants were asked all kinds of

01:37:36.340 yeah well Miss America is now

01:37:38.720 apparently solving deeply troubling

01:37:40.800 geopolitical crises yes good and I

01:37:43.400 feel pretty good about that here's

01:37:45.140 here's one of the they were all

01:37:46.380 political every single one of them

01:37:48.020 here's one of the questions from

01:37:49.480 just Cagle last month a

01:37:53.960 demonstration of neo-nazis

01:37:56.160 white supremacists in the KKK in

01:37:58.880 Charlottesville Virginia turned

01:38:00.440 violent and a counter protester was

01:38:02.220 killed the president said there was

01:38:04.600 shared blame with quote very fine

01:38:06.900 people on both sides were there tell

01:38:10.640 me yes or no and explain I think that

01:38:14.280 the white supremacist issue it was very

01:38:16.700 obvious that it was a terrorist attack

01:38:18.680 and I think that President Donald

01:38:20.400 Trump should have made a statement

01:38:21.560 earlier addressing the fact and a

01:38:23.840 making sure and okay thanks Putin

01:38:27.440 go put on your bikini will you please

01:38:30.700 I mean come on we we're talking about

01:38:32.940 20 year old beauty contestants here not

01:38:35.740 senior fellows at some egg-headed

01:38:38.000 political think tank well hang on Miss

01:38:39.920 America is supposed to be beautiful to

01:38:43.340 be she's supposed to be beautiful 1.00

01:38:44.740 supposed to be smart and play the

01:38:46.840 piano and she can help children those

01:38:49.740 are the things she can do this is like 0.99

01:38:52.580 interviewing an applicant for a job at

01:38:54.720 7-eleven and asking them to use

01:38:56.480 Lagrangian mechanics to solve Lagrangian

01:38:59.380 equations of the second kind I didn't

01:39:02.420 know the first kind so well I mean please

01:39:05.920 don't be insulting if you don't see the

01:39:07.480 first kind can you see the second kind no

01:39:09.160 I saw close encounters of the first

01:39:10.940 kind does that count no that does not

01:39:13.120 but we also want you to use judicious

01:39:15.340 choices of generalized coordinates while

01:39:17.920 you do it before you can touch our

01:39:19.840 Slurpee machine or sell a single four-day

01:39:21.660 old hot dog why are we asking these

01:39:25.820 questions of Miss America because Miss

01:39:29.880 Texas answers it that way because you

01:39:31.920 know what honestly this is just shaping

01:39:33.720 the culture you notice there was a trap

01:39:35.720 there yes or no right right and then

01:39:39.540 explain so if you answered yes and you

01:39:43.420 have 30 seconds right no one is going to

01:39:45.720 listen no one is going to listen all

01:39:47.860 they're going to play is yes and you're

01:39:50.260 out your life is destroyed and that's

01:39:52.900 what that is it's all about boxing people

01:39:55.140 into one point of view one simple

01:39:59.500 mindless answer and we can't get the media

01:40:01.860 to hold presidential stick candidates to

01:40:03.840 the standard of actually answering yes or

01:40:05.540 no why why does Miss America have to do 1.00

01:40:07.640 it I know Trump was never he was never

01:40:09.480 pinned down during the campaign if you

01:40:11.020 remember right I mean he from Hillary

01:40:12.980 Hillary Hillary was they weren't

01:40:14.980 Obama was never pinned down don't talk

01:40:16.880 about Hillary she's right out in the 1.00

01:40:18.000 hallway she's gonna be out in a minute 1.00

01:40:20.040 will you stay for that Pat I would

01:40:21.660 love to because it's I mean it might

01:40:24.120 feel I don't want to feel like we're

01:40:25.740 ganging up on her but it will be three

01:40:28.360 against one at that point though I just

01:40:30.100 want to hear from any book and ask

01:40:31.380 tough questions about okay so we'll so

01:40:33.080 we'll get to that here in a second but

01:40:35.020 anyway so the so Miss America was

01:40:37.280 anybody else cornered with these yes

01:40:40.920 almost every contestant was asked some

01:40:43.020 so they actually one of them and I don't

01:40:46.000 remember from what state but she was 0.97

01:40:48.320 asked about the Russian interference in

01:40:52.300 the election whether it happened what is

01:40:54.980 your verdict you're on the jury now please

01:40:57.180 answer and she actually said innocent

01:40:59.580 right now because I don't have enough

01:41:01.060 evidence which I thought was amazing

01:41:03.340 excellent it's really amazing it's

01:41:05.580 interesting I I wonder if part of this

01:41:08.040 is the desire to get in like sort of

01:41:11.360 YouTube culture to get the we don't

01:41:13.600 have maps moment that happened to what

01:41:15.740 was it Miss Teen South Carolina like they 0.98

01:41:17.240 want to stump them into some dumb answer 0.93

01:41:19.300 so that they can that can be the what 0.97

01:41:20.800 kind of show would you what okay I'm

01:41:23.540 gonna sign up to be Miss America I'm

01:41:26.360 gonna sign up to be anything and the

01:41:27.900 people who are judging it are setting me

01:41:30.520 up to destroy my life I'm not just to

01:41:33.620 make me look just to destroy my entire

01:41:36.400 life welcome to every reality show on

01:41:38.680 television by the way you but that you

01:41:40.180 volunteer for because you're volunteering

01:41:42.320 you know it's not it's not a we don't

01:41:43.920 have a draft culture in Miss America they

01:41:46.120 all volunteer think not you think not it's

01:41:49.320 coming so say for Miss Teen South Carolina

01:41:52.200 uh that maps answer was in 2007 Stu and I

01:41:57.060 were still playing that on our show last

01:41:58.820 week so that was huge for her it was huge for

01:42:03.120 her yeah she's thrilled she's thrilled she's

01:42:06.500 made a career out of it she's thrilled that

01:42:08.220 the band is broken up we're getting it back

01:42:13.100 together this Friday though yeah oh yeah

01:42:14.660 that's right yeah yeah Glenn out this

01:42:16.480 Friday a little uh Pat and Stu reunion

01:42:18.740 tour we'll be filling in I'm going to

01:42:21.460 Nantucket this weekend I'm speaking two or

01:42:26.200 three times at what's called the Nantucket

01:42:28.200 project pretty cool and the Farrelly

01:42:31.120 brothers have decided that they were not

01:42:33.760 coming because I was going to be there oh I

01:42:35.840 believe that yeah really yeah wow yeah

01:42:38.520 wait yeah wait how am I learning about

01:42:41.140 this now they want no part of you I could

01:42:43.240 imagine that they were coming and now

01:42:44.960 they're not I get I've I've heard that

01:42:47.600 they were not coming but who knows

01:42:49.900 because aren't the Farrelly brothers

01:42:51.600 sisters now aren't they both women I 0.88

01:42:53.880 don't I think you're thinking of the

01:42:55.460 people who did the matrix which is a

01:42:58.100 different Farrelly brothers did like

01:43:00.040 there's something about Mary right is

01:43:01.580 that they did some great comedies yeah

01:43:04.560 the Wachowski brothers are the ones that's 0.63

01:43:06.480 it which are not brothers anymore now

01:43:08.160 sisters are sisters but they're diverse 0.96

01:43:10.140 family so so anyway so I guess I guess I

01:43:13.380 guess at least one of them was not real

01:43:15.180 happy and was like not gonna come and I

01:43:17.140 don't know if he's coming or not or

01:43:18.360 they're coming or not but so you found

01:43:19.920 even more people who don't like oh no oh

01:43:22.060 yeah so so the so the so the organizer

01:43:24.780 says so so we want you actually you know

01:43:28.360 their Thursday night we'd like you to kind

01:43:30.120 of open things up and I said I'm I'm I'm

01:43:34.060 not popular with your crowd and and he

01:43:38.180 said yeah I know but that's you know

01:43:41.080 that's that's kind of the thing we're

01:43:44.640 trying to get people to open their

01:43:46.040 minds and say yes to this I don't know

01:43:47.960 why I don't know why because I keep I

01:43:50.320 go into these things thinking that you

01:43:52.760 know you're gonna make a difference one

01:43:54.460 person just change one person and open

01:43:56.780 their mind good luck I know I see you

01:43:58.780 changed two people to not go to this

01:44:00.380 festival

01:44:00.760 so congratulations it's worked you

01:44:04.760 changed two minds congratulations nice 0.94

01:44:07.520 so anyway so while you two are clowning 0.95

01:44:10.200 around I'm gonna be I'll lose 80 pounds 0.74

01:44:12.720 of sweat I don't know how you do it I

01:44:15.080 really don't I there's no way I would

01:44:17.020 say yes to that was he so he says to me

01:44:18.740 he says you know what we want you which

01:44:20.900 we want you to talk about uh the first

01:44:23.500 oh this is that conversation because I

01:44:25.380 heard this conversation the other day and

01:44:27.260 it he wants you to talk about God yeah

01:44:29.700 yeah and I said atheist convention

01:44:32.520 basically no it's not an atheist convention

01:44:35.740 but it's not exactly a conservative

01:44:37.360 convention yeah I mean and are they

01:44:39.180 religious he's I don't know I have no

01:44:41.380 idea and I said oh so you could take

01:44:45.200 the guy that everybody wants to put

01:44:46.720 into a cage and you want him to just

01:44:49.860 stand up on stage in his first

01:44:51.560 introduction and just say Jesus that's

01:44:55.560 gonna make me wildly popular no I mean I

01:44:59.100 we had Tom Scott on yeah he's the guy

01:45:02.040 he founded Nantucket Nectars one of the

01:45:03.760 guys that founded that yeah as this is

01:45:05.840 his project project which is a really

01:45:07.480 cool thing he's a good guy we talked to

01:45:09.500 him he's very open to different

01:45:10.780 viewpoints and he's he's conservative

01:45:12.640 and and oh is he oh yeah oh yeah he is

01:45:15.680 and he's featured in the in friction or

01:45:18.600 one of the books we read right I'm not

01:45:20.360 sure he's I think his example the

01:45:22.420 example of his company is cited in there

01:45:24.000 right because he started the company by

01:45:25.620 bringing peach juice to different boats

01:45:29.640 yeah in the harbor and that's right it

01:45:31.820 is yeah it is yeah and it grew into an

01:45:33.780 incredible company which I I wanted to

01:45:37.060 ask him when he was here is like I mean

01:45:38.800 peach juice like I like peach juice but

01:45:42.100 bringing peach juice to boats that's how

01:45:43.820 you built this thing that's how we built

01:45:44.860 it and then he sold it to to cranberry or

01:45:47.700 a cranapple or yeah it was for like two

01:45:51.180 hundred and fifty million ocean spray

01:45:52.980 cranapple that's what I'm thinking sold

01:45:55.520 it to the cranberries no it was Cadbury

01:45:58.040 that's what you're thinking it was Cadbury

01:45:59.440 was it was Cadbury Schweppes and it was

01:46:02.200 hundreds of millions right yeah it was

01:46:04.120 two two fifty yeah they don't think

01:46:05.360 they've ever announced how much it was

01:46:06.880 but it was a lot he told us the story he

01:46:08.960 was he got a call and he said they said

01:46:11.660 hey you know we kind of want to talk to

01:46:13.880 you about potentially buying it so he in

01:46:16.240 preparation for the call had no idea how

01:46:18.240 much his company was worth and just

01:46:19.980 thought he did some math and he tried

01:46:22.120 to figure out okay this is about what

01:46:23.380 they're going to offer me when they got

01:46:25.000 the call they offered him ten times the

01:46:26.840 amount he had planned I mean so how great

01:46:29.460 would that be can you imagine oh wow

01:46:31.680 you take so now that's I mean you got to

01:46:33.240 put yourself in his shoes now he's just

01:46:34.960 now he's just like looking for fun now

01:46:36.820 he's like mm-hmm who should be in a room

01:46:39.940 who could I have crucified here on who

01:46:42.600 could I bring into a room and just watch

01:46:44.860 what happened

01:46:45.620 Hillary Clinton coming up in just a second

01:46:51.600 it's the dead of the night and you're

01:46:54.680 abruptly woken by the sound of glass

01:46:56.220 shattering somebody in your house you

01:46:58.480 reach over you unlock your nightstand

01:47:00.040 safe your hand closes around your

01:47:01.440 handgun its weight feels familiar in

01:47:03.380 your hands you've done it a million

01:47:04.520 times you've been there before but this

01:47:06.480 time it's real your training is kicking

01:47:10.240 in and the rest of what happens is a

01:47:12.860 blur you have to protect your family 0.72

01:47:14.880 from an intruder who intended to cause

01:47:16.820 them harm or worse I don't care if the

01:47:22.500 guy is dead or wounded but you drew a gun

01:47:26.360 and if you fired it especially you can

01:47:30.100 breathe a sigh of relief for a second

01:47:32.300 the family is shaken but when police

01:47:35.380 arrive they're not going to immediately

01:47:37.020 hail you as a hero in fact you're

01:47:38.520 probably going to be forcefully

01:47:39.840 questioned and arrested especially

01:47:42.340 depending on where you're from in the

01:47:44.100 country keeping your family safe does

01:47:47.000 not stop when the smoke clears knowing

01:47:51.120 what you need to say and what you

01:47:53.320 shouldn't say when the police arrive is

01:47:56.340 the single most important thing that

01:47:57.580 you can discover today that would mean

01:47:59.220 the difference between you walking

01:48:01.040 away being free and going home to your

01:48:03.660 family and a jail cell there is an

01:48:06.920 organization now that is protecting the

01:48:09.080 protectors and that is the USCCA go to

01:48:12.800 protect and defend calm and claim your

01:48:15.760 copy of the USCCA is free guide that will

01:48:18.200 uncover the six things you didn't know

01:48:20.180 would happen when the police arrive that's

01:48:22.840 protect and defend calm protect and defend

01:48:26.620 calm

01:48:27.580 there is a mighty wind blowing and it is

01:48:39.120 Hillary Clinton's new book called what

01:48:41.780 happened and she's been trying to figure

01:48:45.500 it out and as the blaze reported yesterday

01:48:48.020 there's I think it's literally 15 things

01:48:50.560 that she has blamed the election on her

01:48:52.840 loss of the election but Hillary Clinton

01:48:55.600 is joining us here in studio now thank

01:48:58.540 you I didn't want I didn't want to name

01:48:59.820 everyone who is at fault when I when they

01:49:02.880 asked me for the list but you are taking

01:49:04.700 personal responsibility I'm here to read

01:49:10.060 some excerpts so it's out now and here's

01:49:13.900 some expert excerpts from the book will

01:49:16.260 happen from as read by Hillary Clinton for

01:49:20.860 the record it hurts to be torn apart it may

01:49:24.940 seem like it doesn't bother me to be called

01:49:26.920 terrible names or have my looks mocked

01:49:29.920 viciously but it does do that we wouldn't

01:49:32.860 do that who I'm used to it I've grown what

01:49:37.040 Eleanor Roosevelt said women in politics

01:49:39.320 need a skin as thick as rhinoceros hide I'll

01:49:43.620 bet yours it seems to be plus so I mean it

01:49:47.280 looks like rhinoceros side I've always had a

01:49:49.760 healthy self-esteem thanks to no doubt to my

01:49:52.300 parents who never once told me that I had to

01:49:54.540 worry about being prettier or thinner and

01:49:58.220 yet it hurts to be torn apart it didn't start

01:50:01.660 with running for office when I got glasses in the

01:50:04.200 fourth grade way smaller than the coke bottle

01:50:08.000 this is such a sad tome isn't it I don't know

01:50:10.840 why I expected it to be this celebration I

01:50:13.140 mean it's a disaster but it's just it's so

01:50:15.900 sad it's it's it you know started when I got

01:50:19.180 glasses sort of coke glass when I was in

01:50:22.320 fourth grade so I've always hated the coke

01:50:24.800 brothers it reminded me of those glasses I

01:50:27.040 had in junior high a few unkind schoolmates

01:50:31.120 noticed the lack of ankles on my sturdy legs

01:50:34.640 and no this is not making this up I don't

01:50:40.920 make things up in my book this is my latest

01:50:42.820 book wait read that again read it again

01:50:44.580 that's this is really in there Hillary let

01:50:47.200 me see it let me see it junior high a few

01:50:50.080 unkind schoolmates I want a producer in 0.99

01:50:52.760 here right now producing this segment I want a

01:50:55.660 verification do you mind I'm trying to read

01:50:57.760 excerpts from my book all right let's hear

01:51:00.660 is it really is in there I'm kind

01:51:04.180 schoolmates notice the lack of ankles on

01:51:06.320 my sturdy legs really in there did their

01:51:09.640 best to embarrass me she had cankles in 1.00

01:51:12.220 grade school I talked to my mom about that

01:51:14.420 she told me to ignore it to rise above it

01:51:18.200 and to be better that advice prepared me

01:51:21.340 well for the barrage of insults later on

01:51:23.460 oh wow that was wow that was you were

01:51:27.240 called out by Hillary and you know my name 1.00

01:51:29.120 that's impressive I feel a little bit

01:51:31.940 better yeah wow do you have more Jeffy I

01:51:34.260 mean Hillary Hillary if you're not 1.00

01:51:36.680 watching this on TV you are missing 90% of

01:51:39.940 the comedy here

01:51:40.920 because Hillary I will say looks better than 1.00

01:51:46.000 normal so light the way we have Larry is

01:51:47.860 amazing with lighting okay and anyway go

01:51:50.620 ahead thank you I had my own famed tearful

01:51:53.780 moment just before the New Hampshire

01:51:55.980 primary in 2008 I didn't even cry not

01:51:59.540 really I was talking about how tough

01:52:02.860 running for office could be because it

01:52:05.320 can be very tough and my eyes glistened for

01:52:09.180 a moment and I you know what I have to tell

01:52:10.820 you I actually wrote it though doesn't it

01:52:12.960 yeah this isn't a ghostwriter this isn't

01:52:14.500 somebody with actual writing skill she

01:52:16.680 actually wrote this I did she wrote it

01:52:19.080 wait no way it sounds like it it's bad

01:52:21.660 it's really bad it's really bad it became

01:52:23.480 a big news story in America and it will

01:52:26.260 no doubt merit a line in my obituary

01:52:28.820 someday interestingly many would say

01:52:32.820 and you know my tears turned out to be a

01:52:35.900 good thing for me dozens if not hundreds

01:52:38.540 of pundits have commented about that

01:52:40.540 moment humanized me maybe that's true if

01:52:45.740 so I'm both fine with that and a little

01:52:48.380 beleaguered at the reminder that yet

01:52:50.360 again I a human oh no required humanizing

01:52:55.220 she is awful look we bought the book so 1.00

01:53:00.160 you didn't have to but so you're not

01:53:03.820 laughing at my life no no no no no can we

01:53:07.100 have you in again later this week because

01:53:08.920 this is just uh this is amazing this

01:53:11.580 amazing there are some special parts

01:53:14.100 that I would like to share maybe we'll

01:53:16.120 have you maybe we'll have you in Pat
