Welcome to the podcast. It's Stu in for Glenn today. He is back next week and I am out next week.
00:00:06.760
So we wanted to go through a few things here from the 4th of July holiday.
00:00:11.040
We go, we talk about the border in today's program and what's going on with the toilet water situation.
00:00:18.460
We talk about Colin Kaepernick and his ridiculous new ability to ban flags from sneakers
00:00:26.600
and his misunderstandings of history with Frederick Douglass.
00:00:30.680
We have a lot of the, some cool stuff that you can find in our founding documents that have not been seen normally.
00:00:37.280
And also we need to understand the songs that they play at these 4th of July festivals.
00:00:42.740
They're not pro-American songs and we get into that a little bit.
00:00:46.820
Also we talk about a pastor who actually went to these border facilities
00:00:51.040
and saw something a little bit different than people have been reporting on the news.
00:00:57.360
And finally we talk about, we start the show with the difference between Independence Day,
00:01:01.680
which was yesterday, and I'm naming it Dependence Day.
00:01:05.500
This is because apparently our government wants us to be dependent on them for everything,
00:01:21.040
You're listening to The Best of the Glenn Beck Program.
00:01:31.680
Well, Independence Day is over and now we've moved on to Dependence Day.
00:01:36.400
Now we can get rid of all that independence, that ugly independence that America wanted for so long.
00:01:46.080
I don't know if you're looking at the 2020 race at all, but that is essentially what the Democrats are offering right now,
00:01:56.640
They want 364 days of dependence to not be enough.
00:02:00.240
They want to take over July 4th too, I'm pretty sure.
00:02:02.780
And every single policy they're offering goes down this road.
00:02:07.100
This is, of course, a country, as you may have noted when you were looking at fireworks and eating hot dogs
00:02:15.080
and throwing beer down your gullet, that was kind of founded on the idea that maybe independence is kind of a good idea.
00:02:23.360
These are people, first of all, that came across an ocean and risked everything to form some sort of,
00:02:36.340
Lived under what was essentially, you know, it was like the long-distance relationship of slavery.
00:02:50.360
They wanted to show that, hey, you know what, maybe men can do this on their own.
00:02:54.320
Maybe we don't need a king deciding every little bit of our lives for us.
00:03:05.060
And as you celebrate Independence Day, you look now at what we're looking at with the 2020 candidates,
00:03:15.500
You know, there's so many times that you hear the left and right broken down in these ridiculous sort of terms,
00:03:27.080
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said this the other day, and this is, we're moving towards fascism because of what this president is doing.
00:03:35.820
It's an interesting idea because fascists were national socialists.
00:03:39.540
And, you know, national socialists very clearly, and we went over this in a very extensive article on glenbeck.com that you can check out.
00:03:46.720
National socialists were not just socialists in name only.
00:03:52.440
You need a large government to be able to control a population.
00:03:56.760
If you're, I mean, there's nothing consistent with American conservatism that has anything to do with what the Nazis did or any other large government,
00:04:03.940
because what we did here was a limited government.
00:04:06.720
And that is what we argue for all the time as conservatives, as people who might lean libertarian.
00:04:12.500
You want the smallest government possible because you know what's great is not having to worry about electing the wrong person and having them clamp down on your society.
00:04:23.460
That's a great little option we've discovered here in the United States, or at least had for a very long time.
00:04:28.920
We have limitations on what the government can do to us.
00:04:32.600
We don't, you know, Barack Obama famously talked about our founding documents as a charter of negative liberties.
00:04:43.640
It is a, it's a charter to say not what the government must do for you, but what the government can't do to you.
00:04:52.580
You have the right to come out and live your life as you see fit inside of very limited guidelines, a limited government.
00:05:03.540
Conservatives, you know, love the Constitution.
00:05:08.060
But what we do look at is maybe limiting the power of the government so that that government isn't making us dependent on it all the time.
00:05:20.040
You look at what the left is doing right now as we get closer and closer to this election,
00:05:24.240
and somehow they have to come up with some way to paint the economy as poor with 3.7% unemployment.
00:05:32.120
This is not going to be an easy argument for them.
00:05:35.960
You saw this happen in the debates if you were watching them, and I hope you weren't, because it was not fun.
00:05:42.520
I don't know how many of these things I can take, to be honest.
00:05:48.740
It's very much a nails on a chalkboard situation.
00:05:51.580
But as you kind of go through this and you look at their proposals, you see what they're trying to do.
00:05:57.780
They ask them about, you know, what about the economy?
00:06:02.280
And all of them unanimously said it's not working for people, even though 60% of Democrats say the economy is good.
00:06:11.440
60% of Democrats say the economy is good right now.
00:06:17.100
Well, the only thing you can do is try to create this utopia, right?
00:06:21.880
You try to come out and figure out a way to tell people that they can't do it on their own.
00:06:50.000
And then, of course, once they're responsible, we know how that ends.
00:06:53.200
We'll get into the news from Venezuela today a little bit later in the program.
00:06:56.240
But when the government runs things and they can control the economy, every aspect of your life, things tend to go down a somewhat dark road.
00:07:06.820
But the left does not want you to be independent.
00:07:17.720
It's up to you to look to them to solve the problems in your life.
00:07:24.400
Every single day from the day you're born to the day you die, the government is there to take care of every single need.
00:07:32.480
That is the vision of the left in America right now.
00:07:36.880
And you're seeing it more and more as the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wing rises to power.
00:07:48.060
Instead of calling it the socialist wing, it should just be the honest wing.
00:07:52.640
I mean, there's a difference between progressivism and socialism.
00:08:00.760
You know, like people are like, oh, well, Joe Biden, he's a moderate.
00:08:11.020
There are two places where Joe Biden is a moderate.
00:08:13.480
In the 2020 Democratic field and the Soviet Union in 1988.
00:08:18.080
Those are the two moderate places for Joe Biden.
00:08:21.100
The guy was one of the, when he ran for vice president, he was the first or second, I think, most liberal senator in the Senate.
00:08:33.400
Now, granted, Ocasio-Cortez is asking for more today.
00:08:39.240
Joe Biden came out in one of his first speeches and said what he wanted was free community college for every single American.
00:08:46.900
That's the moderate position in the Democratic Party.
00:08:52.440
John Delaney is another guy running for president.
00:08:54.380
You don't know that because you've never heard of him.
00:08:58.460
But he's been running since 2017 as a Democrat.
00:09:07.000
And he's the, another moderate who wants to spend $4 trillion on global warming.
00:09:18.160
Just saying you're against socialism makes you moderate and also gets you booed.
00:09:32.300
We're going to come back and look at some of these proposals here in just 60 seconds.
00:09:36.720
Because when you look at where the Democrats really want to go, it is terrifying.
00:09:48.200
And what better day than July 5th to show the sort of black and white, the bright lines between where this country was, how it was founded, and where the left wants to bring it.
00:10:14.280
And if you like what you hear on the program, you should check out Pat Gray Unleashed.

00:10:22.240
So Donald Trump yesterday did something I think was pretty amazing.
00:10:25.600
And I think I've never seen anything like it before, to be honest with you.
00:10:34.900
And, you know, it was talked about quite a bit.
00:10:37.180
And that's not really the part that, you know, I mean, we've seen things like this before.
00:10:41.260
What was amazing to me is Donald Trump somehow got the left to do two things I've never seen it do.
00:10:48.580
Because they basically just came out and said, the rain that was falling from the sky, that was essentially God being mad at Donald Trump.
00:11:07.740
Number one, it's the first time they have ever blamed a weather event on something other than global warming.
00:11:18.380
And then step number two, they seemingly now believe in God.
00:11:21.360
So Trump pulled off a couple of high hurdles there.
00:11:34.980
If you go to these festivals over the 4th of July, you have a variance.
00:11:42.160
Sometimes the bands that are there, eh, a little mediocre.
00:11:46.300
Sometimes you kind of wish you were anywhere else.
00:11:48.700
I know on New Year's Eve, I'm always happy to be in bed by like 10 p.m.
00:11:54.760
Because I live life like, you know, live in an assisted living home.
00:11:59.920
That's kind of like where I want to be in life.
00:12:01.600
People are like, oh, people have to go in these assisted living homes.
00:12:14.140
But I want to be in bed basically as early as possible.
00:12:17.260
So these festivals, you know, I'm not a parade guy.
00:12:23.180
There's something about parades that are not interesting to me.
00:12:28.400
You know, if you notice what they are, essentially it's just a bunch of people walking down the street.
00:12:39.520
And then you usually have some singer who tries to do some patriotic song.
00:12:49.540
We've seen some of these national anthems get butchered before.
00:12:52.740
And, you know, there's a lot of different ways you can step into it when you're trying to be patriotic.
00:13:00.020
You know, unless you're Colin Kaepernick, you kind of like the flag, you kind of like what America stands for.
00:13:05.740
Unless you happen to be on a democratic debate stage, you don't think the country is entirely evil.
00:13:12.940
So, you know, someone's trying to make an effort at the national anthem, you give them a break, right?
00:13:24.180
I mean, if you go back, you know, a long time in history, here's an American hero, really.
00:13:29.620
An American sports hero, a guy who won a gold medal, you know, in the Olympics, multiple gold medals, Carl Lewis.
00:13:35.280
If you remember this, here's Carl Lewis attempting the national anthem.
00:14:17.160
When you're singing these songs and you realize you're not going to do it, don't try that last high note.
00:14:21.340
Go down on it as if you were making an artistic choice.
00:14:31.180
And really a legitimate American hero at that time.
00:14:44.420
That person should not get the job in the first place.
00:14:48.540
If you can't sing, you shouldn't be out there singing the national anthem.
00:14:56.980
Now this comes kind of specifically from a type of person who really can sing, but thinks for some reason the national anthem's about them.
00:15:06.080
So they have to over-sing so much and go so crazy with it to like, I don't know, show their vocal abilities that it just does not work at all.
00:15:20.400
Who's brought stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight for the ramparts we watched.
00:15:44.960
You get into that, her voice is a little bit overdone.
00:15:48.920
It's like when you, when you're like trying to embarrass your kids and you kind of over-sing the song.
00:15:55.180
She kind of sounded like that, except she has some ability, obviously.
00:15:57.820
Then you have the people who just remix it too much.
00:16:04.560
I don't know what they're trying to do by remixing it and changing it up to some ridiculous level where it's almost unrecognizable.
00:16:18.960
Now you look at the candidates on stage at a debate and you realize maybe they do want to remix what this country is.
00:16:25.380
I don't even know if they want the lyrics to be the same.
00:16:31.200
But here's R. Kelly and he decided to go with such a ridiculous remix version of it.
00:17:04.580
That's like when you go to concerts and, you know, bands do this all the time.
00:17:10.840
You have bands where people are really into them and they have this big following and they, you know, people follow them around the country and they sell out tours for decades.
00:17:21.540
They occasionally want a different version of whatever hit song the band is responsible for.
00:17:26.980
Then you have those bands that have, like, it's like Smash Mouth.
00:17:29.400
If Smash Mouth has, like, you know, two hits, if they come out and do a concert, like, you know, with violin and acoustics, you're not gonna, I mean, you're there for the two.
00:17:42.680
Just sing All-Star like All-Star was on, on, when you sang the All-Star, that, do that.
00:17:48.180
And the National Anthem, I think, falls into the category of just play the song like the song is.
00:17:59.820
You have the, you have kind of the person who can't sing.
00:18:06.260
Then you have the person who kind of combines all of this into one version where they're oversinging it.
00:18:12.960
And, you know, they, they're kind of trying to be too clever.
00:18:16.280
And I, you question at times whether they can actually sing at all.
00:19:13.140
The NBA players are trying so hard not to laugh
00:19:59.740
And this is one that if you didn't see it in video form
00:20:10.520
In that all the NBA players are trying so hard not to laugh
00:20:20.480
The appropriate thing to do in this moment was to point the cameras at the floor
00:20:32.840
And the best part about that is just how much she thinks she's nailed it at the end
00:20:42.440
This is like a historic performance of the national anthem
00:21:05.580
The words to the national anthem are written down
