00:36:27.920 with these drugs if America isn't
00:36:30.900 paying higher prices.

00:36:33.440 What's the story on that?
00:36:35.600 Well, just like the movie The Big
00:36:38.180 Short took a very complicated
00:36:39.700 industry and broke it down in very
00:36:41.980 simple terms so anybody can
00:36:43.540 understand it.
00:36:44.620 That's what I try to do with the
00:36:46.640 middlemen of the pharmacy world.
00:36:48.660 For example, PBMs are pharmacy
00:36:50.720 benefit managers.
00:36:53.140 They're middlemen.
00:36:54.280 And they put a gun to the head of
00:36:56.280 pharma and they say, look, if you
00:36:58.200 want us to carry your drug, pay us a
00:37:00.320 play-to-play fee.
00:37:02.460 And those fees or kickbacks are
00:37:05.260 called rebates.
00:37:06.560 Now, these are not like rebates on
00:37:07.960 cornflakes.
00:37:09.080 These are middle money games.
00:37:11.200 And employers can actually choose a
00:37:13.560 PBM that will not play the rebate
00:37:15.960 game.
00:37:16.560 And businesses across America are
00:37:18.100 getting ripped off on their PBMs.
00:37:19.980 Every business has a PBM for their
00:37:22.780 employees and they're getting ripped
00:37:24.820 off.
00:37:25.280 And I show how businesses can
00:37:26.620 renegotiate these PBMs because the
00:37:28.580 money games are out of control.
00:37:30.000 Wait, so how are they getting ripped
00:37:31.080 off?
00:37:31.880 So a broker will typically sell a
00:37:34.880 pharmacy plan or a PBM plan to a
00:37:37.480 business, just like they sell health
00:37:39.160 insurance to a business.
00:37:40.760 Those brokers get 5% flat commission
00:37:43.420 and kickbacks, some of which are
00:37:45.400 undisclosed.
00:37:46.300 And then they're selling these
00:37:47.380 products that price gouge the
00:37:48.760 employers because the PBMs are
00:37:51.020 charging the employer and the
00:37:53.260 employee through a copay for the
00:37:54.920 drug.
00:37:55.680 Well, the employers aren't keeping
00:37:56.900 track.
00:37:57.380 They don't know the names and doses
00:37:58.680 of these drugs.
00:37:59.860 So the employers get gouged.
00:38:02.020 And that is the game of the PBMs.
00:38:04.320 We're the only country in the world
00:38:05.560 that has PBMs.
00:38:07.060 We didn't have them 30 years ago.
00:38:08.560 That's why you're seeing insulin
00:38:10.260 spike in price.
00:38:12.220 And drugs that have been around for
00:38:13.540 50 years are now suddenly expensive
00:38:16.620 and sometimes in shortage because
00:38:18.680 we've given market dominance through
00:38:21.260 these pay-to-play kickbacks.
00:38:22.940 So what should Washington be doing?
00:38:27.440 Well, we saw Secretary Azar and the
00:38:31.000 current administration propose that
00:38:32.940 all these rebates or kickbacks have to
00:38:35.160 be passed through 100% to the patient.
00:38:38.040 The swamp of the special interests
00:38:39.740 crushed that proposal.
00:38:42.140 It got no support on Capitol Hill.
00:38:45.640 And I think people need to hear from
00:38:47.700 everyday listeners out there.
00:38:49.300 The members of Congress are hearing
00:38:52.080 from all the stakeholders in health
00:38:53.780 care who are all, trust me, making a
00:38:56.060 ton of money except for one, the
00:38:58.960 patient.
00:38:59.860 So we need to ban kickbacks in
00:39:01.960 health care.
00:39:02.660 We need to get rid of secrecy.
00:39:04.360 And I think it's that simple.
