00:27:37.260 But the notion that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation is bad history and bad theology, says Philip Gorsky, the sociologist who is neither, again, a theologian or a historian.

00:28:07.880 Well, since I didn't get any real historians to comment for this article, let me give you some very well-documented footnotes and quotes that are actually historically accurate.

00:28:21.200 On literally hundreds of occasions in the past two centuries, state and federal courts have routinely declared America as a Christian nation.

00:28:29.940 For starters, in a unanimous decision in 1844, the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed America as, quote, a Christian country.

00:28:39.380 1892, Supreme Court did it again, delivered a unanimous ruling declaring America is, quote, a Christian nation.

00:28:47.160 In 1931, Supreme Court reaffirmed the same position for a third time, stating we are, quote, a Christian people.

00:28:54.460 Now, I know you have no respect for the Supreme Court unless it agrees with you, but that's what the Supreme Court has said.

00:47:34.240 Okay, so this is their attempt to blame anyone and anything and to create another boogeyman.

00:47:50.640 So the way they do this is they take your faith and assign a false label to it, white Christian nationalist.

00:48:46.800 So let me take you now to the three points, because they say there are three points that are absolute lies that Americans need to know.

00:49:00.080 And they, they go in to say the three key beliefs associated with white Christian nationalists are a belief that the United States was founded as a Christian nation.

00:49:13.140 Uh, and the second one is that, uh, we, uh, our signers also said that, uh, we were, uh, Christians and people claim that the signers of the declaration in the constitution that they somehow or another didn't have faith.

00:49:32.860 We've already gone through all of those.

00:49:34.620 You can listen back to the podcast, but I want to stop now at the last point.

00:49:41.500 They made in this section and the section was one of the most popular beliefs among white Christian nationalists is that the U S was founded as a Christian nation.

00:49:52.460 Founding fathers were Orthodox evangelical Christians, and God has chosen the U S for a special role in history.

00:49:59.280 So they went on to say that this was absolutely not true.

00:50:05.060 And it goes on for evidence that the United States was founded as a secular nation.

00:50:09.940 And look no further than the 1797 treaty of Tripoli, an agreement.

00:52:13.020 The roots of that earlier conflict, uh, go back to the end of the American war for independence.

00:52:19.000 When five Islamic nations, Turkey, Tunis, Morocco, Algiers, and Tripoli began making indiscriminate attacks against the property and interests of what they claim to be Christian nations, America, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden. 0.77

00:52:37.320 Those five, uh, attacking nations were called the Barbary States named for the Berber ethnic people who became Muslims, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. 0.99

00:52:46.840 And they attacked American civilian merchant vessels wherever they found them, seizing the ships and the cargo and making slaves out of the crew.

00:52:55.800 Now, the slaves were both white and black for American ships at the time.

01:47:26.280 and you were writing all of the banks that were

01:47:28.480 involved in ESG and putting them on notice

01:47:31.480 and giving them time to respond.

01:47:34.140 So who responded and what happened?

01:47:38.280 So what we did was take kind of a scope down

01:47:42.980 approach to this for our first take on this.

01:47:46.240 And this was, we wanted to deal with

01:47:48.240 what is our existential threat,

01:47:50.600 our near-term threat that we're dealing with

01:47:52.440 to our tax dollars.

01:47:53.780 And so we sent letters out to financial institutions

01:47:57.780 that I'm either authorized to do business with

01:47:59.840 or I'm currently doing business with.

01:48:01.780 We sent letters to JPMorgan Chase,

01:48:04.860 Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, BlackRock,

01:48:07.960 Morgan Stanley, and U.S. Bank.

01:48:13.380 Now, the great news here that I really want to highlight

01:48:17.080 is we put, of those six, five on the list

01:48:21.920 because U.S. Bank changed their policy

01:48:26.020 to no longer boycott lending to the fossil fuel industry,

01:48:30.840 which is a huge deal.

01:48:34.200 Fantastic.

01:48:34.980 They were doing ESG.

01:48:37.880 And so they've, are they dropping all of the S and the G 1.00

01:48:41.180 or are they just dropping the E?

01:48:43.560 Do you know?

01:48:45.400 For right now, what I know is that they're dropping the E.

01:48:49.200 And as a great president once said,

01:48:51.980 we are going to trust,

01:48:53.280 but we're going to verify the actions

01:48:56.140 that they're taking moving forward.

01:48:57.940 Now, to be clear, U.S. Bank has a very large contract

01:49:02.600 with the state of West Virginia,

01:49:04.180 which I think helped pressurize that situation

01:49:06.900 where they have an ACH contract with us

01:49:10.680 that's about $20 billion in transactions a year.

01:49:14.720 So we are certainly going to keep a close eye on it.

01:49:18.520 But the rest of those folks,

01:49:20.760 BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase,

01:49:23.700 Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo,

01:49:25.360 they are all on the list.

01:49:27.680 And the list is what we call

01:49:29.180 the restricted financial institution list.

01:49:32.080 They are barred from bidding on all contracts

01:49:34.500 in the state of West Virginia,

01:49:36.120 from universities to the Department of Health

01:49:39.060 and Human Resources, all of it.

01:49:44.560 unless they change.
