01:07:24.820 he's received death threats and has had to be moved to a secure location. Reporters went through

01:07:30.700 his life. They found a domestic violence charge from years ago, dismissed, never a conviction,

01:07:35.640 a restraining order that was active while he sat on the jury.

01:07:39.400 They found out that he was being evicted.

01:07:41.460 And yesterday, Clancy's defense asked the court for his phone records for every hour of Deliberation Day,

01:07:47.880 his probation records, his file from State Domestic Violence Registry,

01:07:52.300 the hallway surveillance videos outside of the jury room,

01:07:55.780 and permission to question another juror about what she saw him do.

01:29:20.380 Okay, now one of the things that I distinguish in my work, and other historians hadn't before, is that there are apocalyptic millinery movements, that means movements that believe it's now, and there are millinery movements that believe it's going to come at the end of the millennium, for example, which is the one I study the most.

01:30:23.360 There are movements of apocalyptic believers who believe that this is the final battle.

01:30:30.020 Some of them decided they had to get rid of all the Jews before they got to the Holy Land.

01:30:35.540 Others decided they needed to kill everybody, including Christians in the Holy Land.

01:30:40.700 So they tend to be pretty bloody, not all of them, but many of them, particularly sort of religious wars.

01:30:47.560 Islam has, I mean, the whole notion of jihad is apocalyptic.

01:30:51.580 And so what I see happening today is that, you know, there's always been in Islam this notion that the world is divided into the realm of the believers, which is Dara al-Islam or the realm of submission to Allah's will.

01:31:10.520 And then there's Dara al-Kharb, which is where all the other, the non-Muslims live free.

01:31:19.500 Infidels.

01:31:20.580 Which is whom they call infidels.

01:31:22.480 And their definition of an infidel is somebody who is blocking the Muslim truth, covering it.

01:31:28.360 And so as a result, they are literally opposing the will of God and need to be removed.

01:31:33.760 So the sort of millenarian vision of Islam, certainly, I think, by the second or third generation, it's not clear that Muhammad was thinking in these terms, but very soon after they decided that, you know, the destiny of Islam is to spread Dar al-Islam everywhere.

01:31:54.560 Now, you know, it accounts for their enormous success, imperial success at the beginning in the 7th and 8th centuries.

01:32:05.460 I mean, they spread probably farther than Alexander did, certainly in both directions, and into Spain.

01:32:13.600 But what we see today is a new apocalyptic phase of this millenarian dream.

01:32:53.540 These guys, and how much of this is prevalent throughout the world of Islam, these guys believe it is their duty to bring it now.

01:33:05.700 They believe, I mean, I define, I literally define a caliphator as somebody who is working for the global caliphate in his slash our lifetime.

01:33:19.080 And you look at the caliphate as that thousand years of peace.

01:33:25.920 Look, Hitler also talked about the thousand year, das Tausendjährige Reich.

01:33:32.000 And he only ruled for 12 years and look how much damage he did.

01:33:35.280 So it's not a question of how long it lasts, it's a question of how you introduce it.

01:33:40.840 And this is, you know, the behavior that we've seen from jihadis in the 21st century, you know, really sort of distills the worst violence and sadism that we have on record.

01:33:54.880 I mean, we have lots of, you know, sadistic and terrorizing conquerors coming through.

01:34:01.460 But, you know, it's almost as if, you know, just to prove Steven Pinker wrong, they've got to up the level of ferocity and hatred.

01:34:20.200 So we had Danny Burmowie on, who I know you know, and he said, Islam is a political theory that includes a religion.

01:34:28.400 can you can you explain why that's significant well let me talk about what what i call supremacist

01:34:38.460 islam okay okay i'm not gonna i i'm not gonna say how many muslims are supremacist and how many

01:34:44.900 muslims aren't i have no idea i obviously hope that it's not as many as it appears to be but

01:34:51.700 ultimately that's a question that muslims themselves have to answer how supremacist are

01:34:58.180 you. But for the supremacists, it's absolutely clear that Islam is so supreme, so superior

01:35:07.640 to all other faiths that the very act of rejecting Islam makes you a target, and you are worthy of

01:35:17.360 death. Doesn't mean that they'll deliver the death penalty, but in their minds, you are worthy of

01:35:22.820 death because you are obstructing Allah's will. So given that situation, they must dominate

01:35:33.480 the public sphere. They must have honor. They must be seen as being superior.

01:35:43.060 And they must show the infidels that they are inferior.

01:35:48.200 So I have seen numbers that on the low end, 8 to 10 percent, but that is an enormous number when you're looking at it globally. Is it possible to be, when push comes to shove, is it possible to be a good Muslim and not believe these things?

01:36:09.320 So that's one of the unfortunate phenomena that we're dealing with because, you know, when Christians go back to their sources, they go back to what Jesus who tells them to turn the other cheek and forget seven times 70.

01:36:28.000 When Muslims go back to the Quran, at least to the later verses which abrogate the earlier verses, they're going to a warlord.

01:36:39.320 And so we don't – it's hard to say, but it looks like the more devout you are, the more likely you are to be a supremacist.

01:36:54.800 And that the more sort of neighborly you are, the more you're willing to get along with infidel neighbors, not feel insulted that they haven't converted, and not see them –

01:37:18.580 I will tell you that I think there are a lot of Muslims that don't want anything to do with any of this.

01:37:50.460 In other words, you know, already starting in the 1980s, Saudi Arabia was sending out preachers with Wahhabi, Salafi, jihadi ideology to come and take over the mosques in the West.

01:41:24.240 One of the other movements I describe in the book is the Taiping, which was literally the sign for the Taiping was heaven on earth.

01:41:34.000 And they were a millennial movement in China in the 1860 to 1864, and they took over whole swaths of areas, including Nanjing, the medieval capital of the empire and stuff.

01:41:51.300 And by the time they were defeated, somewhere between 20 and 30 million Chinese were dead in those millennial wars.

01:42:03.300 And one of the things that caught my attention as I was doing it was, here's Karl Marx.

01:42:09.000 In London, in the 1860s, the revolution that he saw coming in 1848 failed.

01:42:16.740 He's living an absolutely wretched life in which his children are dying of starvation.

01:42:24.340 And he looks at the Taiping revolution and says, this could be the spark from a totally agrarian society.

01:42:33.880 We're talking about a society with no industrial base.

01:42:36.700 This could be the spark that sets off the revolution.

01:42:39.800 And so this sort of, you can already see it in, and you can see it in, what's his name?

01:42:50.020 Foucault with the Iranian revolution in 1979.

01:42:54.340 which is their year of 1,500.

01:42:56.620 And that's why he didn't, I mean, they came to him and said,

01:42:59.320 look, you don't understand what this is going to do for women.

01:43:03.260 And he never turned around on that, even after it all happened.
