00:00:00.000 So it has come to this, good men, torn from their kin, to rage and spill the blood of other men's foes.
00:00:19.780 But we will not be forgotten.
00:00:30.000 Hector!
00:00:52.000 Face me!
00:01:01.000 Our deeds shall be known, even when our bones are dust scattered on the wind.
00:01:07.000 And our names will inspire the mighty to rise.
00:01:17.000 And our names will inspire the mighty to rise.
00:01:33.000 Greetings, my esteemed subscribers.
00:01:37.000 I am taking an ever so quick break from my rather hectic schedule to have a look at Total War Troy.
00:01:45.000 Now, I will not play this yet. I won't make a let's play per se, but rather just a quick overview.
00:01:52.000 I might give it a go later in the autumn when things calm down a bit.
00:01:56.000 But at the moment, I have far too much on my schedule to put aside time to properly enjoy this fine game.
00:02:04.000 But I thought to just show it to you.
00:02:07.000 I also thought to give you a book recommendation.
00:02:10.000 You probably saw it on my Instagram account.
00:02:13.000 It's a series of four books which retells the Iliad and Odyssey.
00:02:19.000 But rewritten to make it a bit more easy to digest for a modern reader.
00:02:26.000 Now, of course, you can read the original Iliad and Odyssey.
00:02:29.000 But if you want to get through it a bit faster, make the language a bit more understandable.
00:02:34.000 Then I can definitely recommend the book series.
00:02:38.000 I'm on the third book right now.
00:02:40.000 And yeah, it's good stuff.
00:02:42.000 So that is the book recommendation for the day or book recommendations, should I say.
00:02:48.000 So anyway, we are here in Bronze Age Greece, the Greek world.
00:02:54.000 And we're going to have a look at the main heroes.
00:02:57.000 So the trailer I opened up with, I'd say Achilles in my imagination looks a bit more youthful than in the trailer.
00:03:05.000 But, you know, it's all good anyway.
00:03:08.000 So we have here the main guy, Achilles, warlord of the Myrmidons.
00:03:13.000 You can play as him.
00:03:15.000 Looking quite aesthetic indeed.
00:03:17.000 Then we have the king of men, the Mycenaean king, Agamemnon.
00:03:22.000 The main driving force behind the invasion of Troy.
00:03:28.000 He is the main king of the Greeks and he obviously wants Troy as a prize.
00:03:35.000 Then we have Odysseus, the brains behind the operation.
00:03:40.000 And also the main character of the Odyssee.
00:03:43.000 His way back to his wife in Ithaca.
00:03:47.000 So yeah, good man right here.
00:03:51.000 Also his idea to create the Trojan horse that eventually brings the Western Greeks the victory.
00:03:59.000 Then we have the tragic Menelaus.
00:04:04.000 He gets cucked by Paris.
00:04:06.000 He gets his wife Helen stolen by Paris.
00:04:10.000 And that is the spark of the war.
00:04:14.000 So they go to war on his behalf.
00:04:16.000 But it's also due to his older brother's ambition.
00:04:20.000 So Agamemnon here.
00:04:21.000 So those are the Western Greek heroes you can play as.
00:04:26.000 Then we can look at the Trojans right here.
00:04:30.000 We have Hector.
00:04:32.000 My favorite character in this whole epic saga.
00:04:37.000 You know, dutiful older brother who defends his city against the invasion force.
00:04:45.000 So you can play as him.
00:04:47.000 And if I do play this during autumn I will probably play as him or perhaps as Achilles.
00:04:54.000 Who knows?
00:04:55.000 We'll see.
00:04:56.000 Then we have the villainous Paris.
00:04:59.000 Paris of Troy who abducts Helen from Sparta when they're there on a diplomatic mission.
00:05:08.000 So you can play as him as well.
00:05:11.000 And here we have the legendary Aeneas.
00:05:14.000 If I pronounce that correctly.
00:05:16.000 And you have plenty of later European peoples who claim descendantship from this individual.
00:05:24.000 So the last Trojan who manages to escape westward.
00:05:29.000 Then you have here a king of Lycia.
00:05:33.000 You can play as well.
00:05:35.000 So we're gonna have a quick look at the campaign itself.
00:05:39.000 Just looking at the aesthetics.
00:05:41.000 So I'll choose Achilles.
00:05:42.000 Never invested in battle.
00:05:46.000 And yeah, you have a bit of different options.
00:05:49.000 Here I'm not gonna go in far too much.
00:05:52.000 I'm just gonna get into the game.
00:05:55.000 Are we mere playthings of the gods?
00:06:02.000 Or do we plead divine influence to justify our foolish choices?
00:06:10.000 He's taken her!
00:06:15.000 He's taken my fight!
00:06:21.000 You've risked the safety of Troy.
00:06:27.000 Troy is my home now.
00:06:29.000 You have my oath, brother.
00:06:32.000 She will be returned to you.
00:06:37.000 Brother, I can fight!
00:06:39.000 Go.
00:06:40.000 Seek shelter.
00:06:41.000 There'll be plenty of fighting ahead.
00:06:44.000 Helen's flight was a grave wound to Achaean pride.
00:06:57.000 King Menelaeth will have his revenge.
00:07:02.000 And his brother will have his war with Troy.
00:07:06.000 Just as the gods intended.
00:07:12.000 Right, so another epic intro there.
00:07:15.000 And you can see the artwork in the background here.
00:07:18.000 Quite true to the time period as well.
00:07:22.000 So that is nice to see, no doubt.
00:07:27.000 Oh, swift-footed Achilles.
00:07:30.000 There is only one response to Queen Helen's abduction.
00:07:34.000 And that is war.
00:07:37.000 Brother, your foolish passion has doomed us.
00:07:42.000 King Agamemnon of High-walled Mycenae must avenge this insult to his brother.
00:07:50.000 You are the ultimate warrior.
00:07:53.000 King of Theia, and commander of the Myrmidons.
00:07:58.000 Glory in battle is my god-given fate.
00:08:01.000 Your ally, King Lycomedes, rules the Isle of Scyros.
00:08:08.000 As a boy, you were sheltered in Lycomedes' court on your father's command.
00:08:14.000 Now you must protect the old king in turn.
00:08:18.000 Heed both threats from enemies like the Elopeans, and opportunities that come your way through friends such as prosperous King Oelius and his son Ajax the Lesser.
00:08:32.000 The independent Thessalians could be a bulwark for your western flank.
00:08:39.000 Keep your courage, lion-hearted Achilles, for you know well that fortune favors the bold.
00:08:48.000 Fortune favors the bold.
00:08:54.000 Fortune favors the bold.
00:08:57.000 A most correct statement.
00:08:59.000 The enemy sends their warriors against you to ravage your lands and sack your cities, but perhaps they underestimate your strength.
00:09:08.000 March out.
00:09:10.000 Engage them in battle.
00:09:11.000 And put them to flight.
00:09:12.000 All right, so we can see the map is looking absolutely splendid, I'll say.
00:09:20.000 Look at this water.
00:09:21.000 I want to go for a swim is looking at it.
00:09:25.000 So, yeah, quite nice graphics as well.
00:09:28.000 And see the sand-colored things, the sand-colored map here is where you haven't explored yet.
00:09:36.000 So I suppose you can do that.
00:09:38.000 Then...
00:09:42.000 Achilles there with some of his troops.
00:09:47.000 So anyway, it looks quite nice.
00:09:50.000 Nice graphics, nice aesthetics also in the background.
00:09:53.000 If you look at the skyline there, it's made in the same artwork as we saw in the loading screen.
00:10:00.000 So, yeah.
00:10:02.000 Good stuff, good stuff.
00:10:03.000 I just thought to show you that.
00:10:06.000 Now I will continue with aforementioned hectic schedule.
00:10:12.000 So, if you haven't already done so, you can follow me on Instagram and Telegram.
00:10:17.000 If you want to keep updated on things and get book recommendations, etc.
00:10:22.000 So, anyway, thank you for watching and have a great rest of your day.
00:10:26.000 XOXO, boo!
