00:00:01.000 Greetings my esteemed subscribers. Welcome to the greatest gaming channel of all time.
00:00:10.000 Now I'm joking, it isn't really. It isn't even a gaming channel but I thought it would be fun to introduce it thus.
00:00:17.000 What is perhaps the greatest of all time?
00:00:21.000 It's Age of Empires 2 and we have a new DLC for the game which is set in good old India.
00:00:27.000 And as you can see before you, we have a campaign with good old Babur.
00:00:33.000 Now as you have probably seen, I can only suppose that you are following me on different social media, telegram for example and Instagram.
00:00:44.000 Then you have seen me Babur Khan posting.
00:00:48.000 I recommended a book series a while back, which the first book in the series is about Babur Khan.
00:00:55.000 And I actually read this book quite a few years back and then I decided to re-read it.
00:01:03.000 And it was much better on the second read through.
00:01:06.000 Because as you attain more experience yourself, you get a different appreciation for the ups and downs of life so to speak.
00:01:16.000 And you get a different appreciation for someone who, despite everything, pursues his goals and his visions.
00:01:26.000 And someone who has a firm belief in his own destiny.
00:01:30.000 So for all Indians who might be listening and watching this, I am of course not endorsing the Havok Babur cast in India.
00:01:41.000 But you know, history is full of violence, so it's not really something I need to say.
00:01:47.000 But I know that there is a bloody history of the Mughals. 1.00
00:01:51.000 But anyway, the book series is what I want to get to.
00:01:54.000 I can highly recommend it.
00:01:57.000 Great series and as you all know, I do write a lot of book reviews.
00:02:01.000 Mainly of more esoteric literature as of late.
00:02:07.000 Now if you are new to reading, I would definitely recommend you to read some historical fiction.
00:02:10.000 So you get a good, easily digested overview of certain time periods.
00:02:17.000 So I learned quite a bit from just reading those books about the Mughal Empire.
00:02:23.000 Now anyway, this is not actually a video on books.
00:02:27.000 This is Age of Empires 2 Let's Play video.
00:02:31.000 So we are going to get straight into good old Babur here. 0.98
00:02:37.000 So as I am sure they will say in this cinematic we are about to see, Babur Khan claimed to be a descendant of the great Genghis Khan and also of Tamerlane, Timur Lenk.
00:02:52.000 You actually have a campaign here in Age of Empires 2 and he was a brutal conqueror of exceeding ruthlessness.
00:03:05.000 I might make a separate video on him later on.
00:03:08.000 Who knows?
00:03:09.000 So anyway, Babur Khan came from a line of bloody conquerors and of course he had grown up with people telling him of his destiny, of his blood.
00:03:22.000 That he was divinely blessed to achieve greatness and of course if you have that sort of belief in yourself then reality will conform to that vision.
00:03:34.000 As I mentioned in Dauntless.
00:03:36.000 Now anyway, enough talking from my side, let's get into the game itself.
00:03:42.000 Pearl of the East.
00:03:44.000 Perhaps they are talking about Samarkand there.
00:03:47.000 We'll see.
00:03:48.000 Allah gives and allah takes. 0.99
00:03:52.000 I fear that I do not have much time left in this world.
00:03:56.000 Yet I cannot complain.
00:03:59.000 My life has been an adventure.
00:04:02.000 And for all my humility, I believe it has been extraordinary enough to be written about.
00:04:08.000 You may accuse me of vanity, but I have decided to write the book myself.
00:04:14.000 It should be good literature after all.
00:04:17.000 I dined with fine emirs and caroused with simple peasants on moonlit steps. 0.89
00:04:23.000 They waged wars and sat on thrones only to lose them again.
00:04:30.000 And it all began in the maelstrom of intrigue and bloody skirmishes that was my beloved Transoxiana.
00:04:38.000 The melting pot of Persian high culture and nomadic traditions.
00:04:44.000 To the East of Samarkand, my father ruled the fertile slopes of the Fergana Valley.
00:04:50.000 Like all heirs of Tamerlane, he was a proud Timurid who sought to imitate his great ancestor.
00:04:57.000 Unfortunately, Allah had not blessed him with a knack for warfare.
00:05:03.000 After a few humiliating defeats, he decided to devote himself to his other passions.
00:05:10.000 Eating, drinking, and rearing pigeons.
00:05:14.000 One day, as my father was climbing the stairs to check on his birds,
00:05:19.000 Allah, in his infinite wisdom, decided that this model of gluttony had waffled on the earth for long enough. 0.67
00:05:27.000 Halfway up to the dovecote, the stairs collapsed under him, and he fell to his death.
00:05:34.000 And that is how I, Babur, came to be lord of the Fergana Valley.
00:05:40.000 Yet, like all transitions of power in our culture, it was not to be a peaceful one.
00:05:47.000 Thanks to my dear mother, Kutluk, my bays agreed not to abandon what surely appeared to be a dynasty in shambles.
00:05:55.000 But, my devious uncles were another matter.
00:05:59.000 At that time, I was just a 14 year old boy with nothing to my name.
00:06:04.000 And my uncles, who had long desired the Fergana Valley, thought that my inheritance was ripe for the taking.
00:06:13.000 So there you see the dangers of bloat maxing.
00:06:17.000 You can't bloat max, you can't balk too hard.
00:06:20.000 Then you will die in such a manner.
00:06:24.000 So anyway, good introduction, as is the case for most of these Age of Empires 2 campaigns.
00:06:30.000 They set the stage.
00:06:32.000 Okay, so we have to hold off the enemy Timurids. 0.99
00:06:36.000 So, Timurids, the etymology is the House of Timur, so Tamerlane.
00:06:44.000 So we have some, the fortified tower must not be destroyed, and Babur and his mother Kutluk must survive.
00:06:55.000 Fair enough.
00:06:56.000 Then we can look at a hint.
00:06:58.000 I'm not going to read through this, because it's not reasonable at this particular time.
00:07:07.000 Men sneak around in the shadows of our walls, my princess.
00:07:11.000 Shall we get the boy to safety? 0.85
00:07:14.000 These cowards snuck up in the dark of the night, but there is no need to fearfully hide. 0.98
00:07:20.000 Hold our position until dawn, and the sun will reveal the faces of these scoundrels. 0.99
00:07:28.000 Alright, we need to defend here.
00:07:31.000 So here we have Kutluk, which is the mother. 0.89
00:07:35.000 And here we have Young Babur.
00:07:38.000 So since we have these heroes, they regenerate health.
00:07:49.000 They might as well take some damage.
00:07:53.000 So I'm not risking Babur. 1.00
00:07:59.000 I am merely making sure that he is getting a taste of battle.
00:08:16.000 And of course we have to be careful so he doesn't die, Young Babur. 0.98
00:08:37.000 And of course when you play Age of Empires II, you can try to get the archers to shoot at infantry.
00:08:47.000 And the cavalry to chase down archers.
00:08:52.000 Now I managed to lose some of my cavalry, unfortunately, but it is what it is.
00:08:59.000 And now I actually forgot to do something which I should have done at the very start.
00:09:08.000 And that is to upgrade the attack of my archers.
00:09:12.000 Oh well.
00:09:14.000 I can always blame my gaming performance on the fact that I am recording. 0.81
00:09:20.000 Some of your greedy uncles were among the attackers.
00:09:25.000 They are not worthy of ruling, Glorious Summergant.
00:09:29.000 And since they failed to seize our homeland, we will now take theirs. 0.95
00:09:38.000 Alright, good stuff.
00:09:39.000 So we have started the mission itself.
00:09:42.000 And we're going to conquer these hostile Timurids. 1.00
00:09:48.000 So now, what you should always do, if you play any strategy game, I suppose.
00:09:54.000 You should build up your economy.
00:09:58.000 So what I will do now is I will try to get hold of some stone somewhere.
00:10:02.000 So I can build a second town center.
00:10:04.000 And then I will boom.
00:10:07.000 And boom means that I will create a strong economy.
00:10:13.000 That is the first action to do whenever you play.
00:10:19.000 Match can be achieved if you trust in Allah and your own strength.
00:10:23.000 But it cannot hurt to have loyal allies by your side.
00:10:28.000 Seek out other emirs in the area who can be convinced to join our cause.
00:10:34.000 I will do so, Kutlug. 0.99
00:10:35.000 I will actually explore a bit with her.
00:10:38.000 Now, you can also create a market and buy.
00:10:41.000 You can trade some gold for stone.
00:10:47.000 And then we can build our second town center.
00:10:51.000 So I am going to do that.
00:10:52.000 Boom.
00:10:53.000 And we can just build it here.
00:10:56.000 So we can continue the boom.
00:10:58.000 We can actually build two town centers.
00:11:02.000 I believe it's the only reasonable course of action.
00:11:06.000 And now we are going to get rid of the Uzbeks. 1.00
00:11:13.000 So we are baiting them.
00:11:15.000 Ah, we can't bait them.
00:11:17.000 They are unbaitable.
00:11:19.000 But we are going to see if we can do something here.
00:11:31.000 Now they have been successfully tricked into coming to us.
00:11:40.000 And of course I don't want to lose young Babur here. 1.00
00:11:43.000 So he will have to run around a bit when the others are fighting.
00:11:48.000 So now we have cleared the path for Kutlug to explore a bit.
00:11:54.000 While we boom max here.
00:11:57.000 So basically I will probably edit this video.
00:12:06.000 I have no troops to spare Babur.
00:12:08.000 But my people report that the Uzbeks construct siege weapons in a nearby camp.
00:12:13.000 I would rather see these powerful devices in your hands than theirs.
00:12:18.000 Aha, so these guys, they have told us that we can gain these tribuchets.
00:12:27.000 Which is good.
00:12:29.000 I will do it.
00:12:31.000 But yeah, as I was saying.
00:12:33.000 I will edit this video.
00:12:35.000 Because it would be too long if I record all of it.
00:12:41.000 So I will just keep booming here.
00:12:43.000 My economy.
00:12:44.000 Get a great economy.
00:12:45.000 And then we will strike out.
00:12:47.000 So that is a good idea.
00:12:50.000 If you play Age of Vampires 2 or any strategy game for that matter.
00:12:54.000 To get your economy in order before focusing on military matters.
00:13:00.000 Then of course you should create an army at the same time.
00:13:07.000 So that you don't get mogged by enemy raiders and the like.
00:13:12.000 So I am doing that.
00:13:14.000 And I am creating some more horse archers.
00:13:17.000 I think that is reasonable since we are playing as the Tatars. 1.00
00:13:21.000 Try Whole.
00:13:22.000 In your hands.
00:13:23.000 Interesting.
00:13:24.000 Thanh.
00:13:25.000 By the gai man. 0.98
00:13:26.000 By the gai men. 1.00
00:13:27.000 Ah.
00:13:28.000 Babur.
00:13:29.000 The young tiger with both Tamalene's and Temujin's blood in his veins.
00:13:32.000 Very well.
00:13:33.000 Bring me 10 white horses.
00:13:37.000 And we shall form an alliance following our traditional custom.
00:13:43.000 Alright, so we have to procure 10 white horses...
00:13:49.000 To get this fine gentleman to ally with us.
00:13:53.440 So I suppose we'll have to scout around a bit.
00:13:57.800 And I see two magnificent white stallions here.
00:14:03.500 Come with me.
00:14:04.540 I will gift you to this gentleman right here.
00:14:08.400 And he will take good care of you, I am certain.
00:14:12.980 And here we actually have another fine horse.
00:14:19.000 So we're going to send him straight down here.
00:14:28.380 And then we have a third Timurid noble to visit.
00:14:33.000 And then we'll launch a little raid here.
00:14:37.540 Just need to build up our forces a bit.
00:14:41.360 And here are two more horses.
00:14:44.160 How nice.
00:14:49.000 But your father is not exactly a religious man.
00:14:53.520 Do you care more for pious people, Babur? 0.97
00:14:58.380 Then bring me a holy relic.
00:15:00.540 We are indeed pious.
00:15:04.040 So we will do that.
00:15:05.920 We will bring a sacred relic to this fine gentleman.
00:15:11.760 So you can meditate upon its sacredness.
00:15:16.900 But as you can see, we have also been attacked here.
00:15:20.420 Our fine fortified tower.
00:15:22.420 We need to defend it at all costs.
00:15:24.920 So here we have it.
00:15:30.020 Samarkand.
00:15:31.580 We cannot go nearer now, I suppose.
00:15:34.600 We have to continue to defend.
00:15:38.260 Here we got into a bit of trouble here.
00:15:43.040 Unfortunately.
00:15:43.560 So now we have to use the infamous, or famous, or depending on your perspective, hit and run tactics.
00:15:56.200 Because here we can see pikemen. 1.00
00:16:01.500 Halberdiers.
00:16:02.460 They are especially good against cavalry archers. 0.59
00:16:08.820 So we need to pick them off at range.
00:16:12.700 So they don't get close.
00:16:14.660 And now, of course, we need to repair our tower here.
00:16:19.060 So we don't get mogged.
00:16:22.120 And perhaps build a castle there somewhere as well.
00:16:26.460 I think that's the only reasonable course of action.
00:16:30.400 So we're going to take these guys here.
00:16:31.940 And place a magnificent castle.
00:16:36.400 And you can see the nice Central Asian aesthetics of the buildings here.
00:16:43.740 Good stuff.
00:16:44.480 Good stuff.
00:16:45.600 Now, we need to find a relic.
00:16:48.400 I see that you can be relied on, Babur.
00:16:52.400 Ten splendid white horses.
00:16:54.540 Exactly as a dream.
00:16:57.440 Come then.
00:16:58.360 Henceforth.
00:16:59.380 We ride under the banner of the tiger.
00:17:01.940 He was very pleased with our offering of ten white horses.
00:17:09.020 I'm happy now we can fight alongside us as we try to mog these new males.
00:17:16.100 I'm sure these hostile timreeds were not new males.
00:17:20.120 I think we were quite concerned indeed with honor and the principles of warrior culture.
00:17:37.060 And now, as you can see, we have amassed a decent enough force so we can probably go on a little raid to procure these trebuchets. 0.99
00:17:53.480 Perhaps that's actually a silent T, if you pronounce it in French.
00:18:02.960 I am unfortunately not fluent in French.
00:18:08.340 It's completely barbaric of me.
00:18:11.320 All right.
00:18:29.400 The moment of truth.
00:18:30.940 Can we defeat these Uzbek scouts? 1.00
00:18:34.940 Perhaps you can.
00:18:40.820 So we have here some camels, which are good against cavalry.
00:18:45.960 Because horses, they don't like camels.
00:18:49.180 They get a bit anxious when they're near camels.
00:18:54.480 And this is reflected in the game by camels being additionally good against the cavalry.
00:19:00.660 So, yes, I suppose that was enough.
00:19:10.520 We can train some additional soldiers here.
00:19:16.460 For good measure.
00:19:18.340 Always good to have.
00:19:19.360 And here we have found a sacred relic.
00:19:33.240 So we need to train some more camels, I suppose, to get rid of them.
00:19:41.620 And here we see great levels of unemployment.
00:19:45.400 We need to put these guys to work immediately.
00:19:49.360 Otherwise, we don't have any gold.
00:19:54.320 But, as I mentioned before, you can actually trade.
00:19:59.360 And get some gold that way.
00:20:01.060 But, of course, it's better to mine gold or even trade.
00:20:06.420 You can see if we find a friendly market somewhere.
00:20:09.260 And then we can send some trade cards.
00:20:14.600 Well done, Tiger.
00:20:15.840 Tiger, you will easily crush your devious uncles with this trebuchet.
00:20:19.500 Behold, we have procured the... 0.98
00:20:24.460 And there we were exceedingly close to getting Babur killed. 0.94
00:20:33.180 Perhaps I should actually station him in the castle here so he doesn't...
00:20:37.460 So he doesn't die.
00:20:38.840 It would be a fail.
00:20:39.980 It would be a failure of a let's play.
00:20:48.320 Oh, this is also a bit of a failure.
00:20:50.260 They got...
00:20:50.800 They got mogged, my villagers.
00:20:53.880 They got mogged by raiders.
00:20:55.840 So we have to send our cavalry there immediately.
00:20:59.900 Can also train some new villagers.
00:21:01.440 Our trusted camels.
00:21:14.560 They take care of business.
00:21:18.120 And now, as you can see, you can also upgrade their armor so they're a bit tougher.
00:21:23.780 So, we have destroyed one castle here.
00:21:32.620 And we are approaching the great city of Samarkand.
00:21:39.020 And we have also finally picked up the relic which we will gift to the pious lord of this fine village.
00:21:50.580 I hope he appreciates our fine gift.
00:21:55.740 And there is the second castle we need to destroy with our fine trebuchets.
00:22:03.740 And we have procured a military camp here as well.
00:22:08.640 So we can train additional soldiers and send in to the thick.
00:22:13.040 The thick of fighting.
00:22:14.580 Allah must love you greatly if you manage to find this relic and bring it to me.
00:22:19.640 My dervishes and I will stand by your side in the coming betters, Babur.
00:22:27.160 Nice to hear.
00:22:28.080 He did appreciate our fine gift.
00:22:31.640 Well done, my.
00:22:32.240 Two influential timrids have joined us.
00:22:36.560 Skill diplomacy is as good a weapon as a sword.
00:22:41.520 Some light.
00:22:42.260 So now we have to be on the lookout for pikemen, as I said. 1.00
00:22:53.180 Otherwise, they will completely mog our cavalry.
00:22:57.000 Fortunately, these horse archers have a decent attack against this pikemen. 1.00
00:23:03.120 So all good, all good.
00:23:09.700 Right, so Samarkand is almost ours.
00:23:12.340 We just have one castle standing in the way.
00:23:16.740 So I'm not going to spoil anything about the book, but Samarkand was initially, at least, the grand prize that Babur and, of course, all Timurid princes, they wanted to have it.
00:23:34.020 The jewel of Central Asia, one could say.
00:23:38.360 A very rich city, of course, neatly located on the Silk Road.
00:23:47.200 Speaking of the Silk Road, or rather, the Silk Roads, I have a book which I have shown and I will get around to read it.
00:23:57.440 So, the Silk Roads by Peter Frankopan.
00:24:01.580 I will talk about it in a podcast or a book review or even in a video when I have read it, but my to-read list is...
00:24:11.080 I could cry with pride and happiness.
00:24:16.280 Samarkand, Tamerlane's dearest bride, is back in the hands of a true Timurid. 1.00
00:24:22.900 And this man of honour is you, my son. 0.88
00:24:25.780 As delightful as it is to watch these daft-grunt children of Tamerlane slaughter each other, it is getting a little boring. 1.00
00:24:35.940 It is time to put an end to this juvenile struggle. 0.97
00:24:41.340 Um, okay.
00:24:42.400 I see your anger, my son.
00:24:44.560 But it is good that the Uzbeks are so haughty. 1.00
00:24:49.140 Reckless opponents are easy to overcome.
00:24:51.500 Yes, as I was saying, my to-read list is quite extensive, as it is.
00:25:00.540 But I will get around to that book eventually.
00:25:04.600 And now, of course, as you saw from the dialogue,
00:25:08.840 Shaibani Khan, which is a prominent antagonist in the books as well.
00:25:16.780 Shaibani Khan has decided to wage war upon us. 0.87
00:25:25.940 And yeah, as I was just saying, he appears in the first book as well.
00:25:33.080 Good times, good times.
00:25:34.480 Now, as you can see here, the enemy Uzbek army, their civilization is the Cumans. 0.99
00:25:42.060 And the Cumans, a very fascinating story in itself.
00:25:47.220 They got driven away during the Mongol conquest of Russia.
00:25:52.660 They fled south.
00:25:53.920 Some of them ended up in Egypt as slaves.
00:26:01.280 And then the, um...
00:26:03.080 So, the Mameluk dynasty. 0.96
00:26:05.260 And then they actually got their revenge on the Mongols. 0.93
00:26:09.640 In certain battles in the Middle East.
00:26:12.820 Very fascinating story.
00:26:14.400 Again, I might make some sort of video on it.
00:26:18.520 I will certainly mention it again.
00:26:20.340 And you have, in this fine game, Age of Empires 2,
00:26:23.980 you have a campaign where you play as the Cumans.
00:26:27.360 I highly recommend it if you, um...
00:26:30.020 Yeah, if you play the game.
00:26:32.360 Now, checking back in.
00:26:34.260 As you can see, we have...
00:26:36.220 almost defeated Shaibani Khan and his...
00:26:40.820 Uzbeks. 1.00
00:26:41.380 Just need to get this castle down.
00:26:48.240 And, uh, I do believe that victory will be ours.
00:26:52.060 The Tiger has shown his clothes.
00:26:58.520 Mark my words.
00:27:00.820 We will meet again.
00:27:02.420 On a moonless autumn night,
00:27:20.260 we overcame the walls of Samarkand.
00:27:24.120 The city's merchants and dignitaries were thrilled to receive me
00:27:28.420 and praised my sense of justice,
00:27:31.500 as they had heard that I did not tolerate looting among my soldiers.
00:27:36.540 Yet when Shaibani Khan returned in the spring
00:27:39.800 and Uzbek soldiers blocked the trade routes,
00:27:43.480 their enthusiasm quickly evaporated.
00:27:45.920 Before long, a famine broke out in the city.
00:27:49.780 As the weeks wore on,
00:27:52.080 more and more of my men left Samarkand
00:27:54.580 under the pretext that they might catch a few sheep
00:27:57.420 outside of the walls.
00:27:59.780 None of them were ever seen again.
00:28:02.260 In the end,
00:28:03.360 I realized that I had to gamble for my survival.
00:28:06.280 With my last loyal followers,
00:28:09.260 I snuck past the besiegers during the night
00:28:11.680 and sped towards the Fargana Valley
00:28:13.820 to procure provisions and reinforcements.
00:28:16.640 When we reached the valley at dawn,
00:28:19.260 two riders came bringing terrible news.
00:28:22.720 In my absence,
00:28:24.400 one of Shaibani's generals
00:28:25.820 had made himself the new master of Fargana.
00:28:28.860 I felt like my father must have
00:28:31.380 when the stairs gave way under him.
00:28:34.400 I had stretched my luck too thin
00:28:36.480 and lost the land of my forefathers to the invaders.
00:28:40.460 All right, good stuff, good stuff.
00:28:45.040 I will see if I make a second video.
00:28:48.500 I will meditate upon it.
00:28:50.680 Do let me know in the comments
00:28:51.800 if you like these videos.
00:28:54.260 Of course, I enjoy making them all good.
00:28:57.120 And if we do continue on this campaign,
00:29:02.720 we will lead down to India
00:29:06.560 to establish the Mughal dynasty.
00:29:09.600 But yeah, we'll see.
00:29:11.700 Thank you for watching
00:29:13.640 and I wish you a high Thumos
00:29:16.400 rest of your day.
00:29:18.400 XOXO, boom! 0.84
