In this episode I talk about Eltharion the Blind Swordmaster, a character I first encountered when I was a kid growing up in the late 80s/early 90s. He was blind and had been blinded by some dark elves in a short story that appeared in White Dwarf as part of the White Dwarf lore. He led a raid on the land of the dark elves and went on the offensive against them. He is now a fully functional elf who rides the top by a griffon. He has been retconned so he isn't blind anymore but he is no longer blind.

00:00:00.000 Hello laddingtons! I'm checking in from Ulthuan with some Warhammer lore and I want to dedicate
00:00:09.720 this video to my supporter Jan from the Czech Republic who so kindly gifted the latest Warhammer
00:00:17.760 Total War 2 DLC to me and with a message that he is in a period of mourning because his
00:00:25.740 grandfather has just passed away and the grandfather took you know an active role in
00:00:31.560 his upbringing so and he also said that my let's plays have increased his mood a bit so
00:00:37.320 yeah this is for you Jan stay strong so in the end of the video the second half of
00:00:44.220 the video I will show the actual gameplay and have a look at the DLC but I
00:00:48.620 thought to just check in from this extremely cozy and comfy place to just
00:00:55.020 talk a bit about Warhammer especially a character that I found very epic when I
00:01:01.980 was like 14 and that's Eltharion the blind swordmaster and first and foremost also
00:01:08.340 to everyone who perhaps are more interested in the political side of
00:01:12.780 things I talk about if you wonder how I you know reject black pills in regards to
00:01:19.020 Sweden and Europe and North America etc if I feel black pilled I just delve into some 1.00
00:01:25.260 Warhammer and I feel better you need that sort of you know positive escapism every once in a while
00:01:32.140 so yeah that is how I deal with that so anyway
00:01:39.100 about Eltharion the swordmaster he has been retconned so he isn't blind anymore but when I first saw him
00:01:49.660 yeah I was like 14 years of age and it was a short story that appeared in white dwarf along with some
00:01:55.580 rules for the tabletop game and he was blind he had been blinded by some dark elves and in the 0.93
00:02:03.020 short story he led a raid on the Nagaroth so the land of the dark elves and what I thought was so epic
00:02:12.380 with it was that he actually went on the offensive because in Warhammer lore especially in the a bit
00:02:18.860 older lore the high elves are always on the back foot and the dark elves are always the ones who are 1.00
00:02:23.740 invading so I thought nice here's a guy who's taking the fight to the enemy since I you know
00:02:29.500 identified more with the high elves than the dark elves so that was my impression good impression of
00:02:35.500 Eltharion the blind swordmaster and also purely aesthetically speaking a blind swordmaster whose other
00:02:41.820 senses are so keen that he can keep up with a master dark elf assassin shadow blade so that is the
00:02:53.740 short story there I also I had a high elf army decently painted I sold every model except for
00:03:03.340 Eltharion the blind swordmaster so I still have it in metal I might paint it someday if you have been
00:03:09.740 following me on instagram you've seen that I posted a bit of my warhammer painting quarantine painting
00:03:16.380 since I've you know had some extra time to to do it something I've missed for a very long time
00:03:23.260 so yeah one day I might paint that model too but as I said they retconned the story so he's no longer
00:03:30.780 blind and he appears in the latest dlc as Eltharion the grim who's yeah a fully functional
00:03:39.580 elf who rides the top by a griffon so we'll have a look at him in in a little bit but otherwise in
00:03:46.380 regards to the game itself and to and to warhammer lore especially when it comes to the high elves
00:03:53.900 always found it very very motivating you don't see any slave morality heroes it's very Tolkien-esque in
00:04:02.540 that sense we'll also have a look at another hero who is named Imerik he's a prince he's a bit arrogant
00:04:08.940 a bit proud but it's not something he he doesn't come from a position of being the underdog and that
00:04:15.340 is so refreshing to see I talked about it more in my video on lord of the rings and harry potter
00:04:21.980 and I prefer the lord of rings heroes because they don't come from that position of
00:04:27.740 downtroddenness the high elves you know they are they are anything but then in regards to 1.00
00:04:34.860 the game warhammer total war 2 it's extremely good on every level you know the tactical challenge
00:04:41.260 the strategy challenge it yeah you have to think I play on legendary as well and every single move
00:04:48.300 you have to think quite a bit so you don't do any mistakes because you can't turn back
00:04:53.660 time in that game so very challenging very rewarding as well the sensation also in it
00:05:01.100 you know really captures that sense of epicness of exploration of adventure it's perfect for
00:05:08.620 you know gaining some motivation to set the pace high in in your other endeavors as well so now always
00:05:15.340 full training motivation when I think of the aesthetic elven heroes same thing with exploring
00:05:21.420 um you know if you game a lot you must use it to you know motivate yourself to do things
00:05:29.020 out in nature as well so you can get another appreciation so if I look around me here
00:05:34.300 at this extremely beautiful place I have a deeper appreciation of it
00:05:40.860 so anyway let's get into the game and if you aren't interested in the game itself you can
00:05:46.060 stop watching the video now if you want I won't hold it against you but for anyone else who wants to
00:05:52.060 have a look at the new dlc the new heroes permabulking grom and imrik and eltharion the retconned eltharion you can
00:06:03.660 um keep watching
00:06:13.260 so
00:06:15.260 so
00:06:25.260 so
00:06:27.260 so
00:06:29.260 to give you an example I am technically not a blind sword master
00:06:58.060 who trains with a sword but you know I found this epic place here secluded
00:07:04.060 um full of life I can feel
00:07:07.820 the earth goddess Gaia you can feel her presence it feels good do some shadow boxing or do some sort of
00:07:15.900 training so you have these epic visions you get from you know a certain culture then you apply it
00:07:21.980 in some way so I can use envision so I can use envision something epic
00:07:27.500 do it right here and yeah so it becomes a good time so try it out
00:07:35.740 now I don't know if our esteemed bronze age pervert endorses me talking about the earth goddess because 1.00
00:07:44.300 as many of you know he likes to talk about the
00:07:47.660 patriarchal sky father sky god conquering the more matriarchal 1.00
00:07:54.860 earth goddess worshipping individuals but you know I am stuck in between I also want to venerate
00:08:00.860 mother earth I don't want to sound like a hippie or anything but you know just looking around me
00:08:05.740 and I'm full of love for our dear earth we have here of course no disrespect to any of the sky fathers
00:08:14.380 that are up there but yeah just throwing it out there for a good measure so
00:08:20.060 I also admire my traps quite thick and juicy in all actuality
00:08:27.980 hello again laddingtons welcome back to good old total war fun fact I have actually
00:08:35.340 recorded total war let's plays since 2014 so I thought it would be appropriate to continue this
00:08:43.260 fine tradition now this won't be a full let's play episode I just wanted to show you the new
00:08:49.500 DLC and we see some new fine artwork here as well on the left side some elven architecture goals for
00:08:58.860 Europe when we have won the culture war we'll build like this and on the right side we have some
00:09:05.580 goblin and orc and goblin aesthetics so anyway I'll head on into the eye of the vortex here 0.89
00:09:12.700 here and we'll see all of these mad cunts so yeah new artwork here or or somewhat new at least 0.87
00:09:24.060 so the new heroes are eltharion here so the retconned version and you can see his eyes there wide open 0.86
00:09:32.700 he is not blind and he starts here in on the east coast of Ulfdan and he will um fight against this 0.90
00:09:42.940 bloat max mad cunt grom the punch um yeah he has taken the bloat maxing a bit too far I'd say he needs 0.99
00:09:51.180 to get on a cut so he looks shredded for summer so he can post physique so uh anyway 0.95
00:09:58.780 no rest I am will probably play some sort of campaign with this guy at some stage he has some
00:10:05.900 different new game mechanics as well then the second new is Imrik absolutely static and I said Imrik
00:10:16.780 because that's the swedish way to pronounce it but it's Imrik so with an english i instead of two e's
00:10:23.820 but um that is another topic the pronunciation of swedish e's so anyway you see him looking quite
00:10:32.300 aesthetic starting off here in um well africa basically it's not africa it's arabic but you know
00:10:39.580 it's sort of based on um the real world so he has some ultra aesthetic dragon princess a sun dragon some
00:10:49.100 white lions absolutely epic unit if there ever was on the white lions so anyway some few some different
00:10:57.340 game mechanics here
00:11:03.420 none can best me in battle so you see a bit arrogant cocky but you know he deserves it so we're just
00:11:09.820 gonna get into the campaign here to have a look at this guy long have I led the great host of calador
00:11:17.260 now the phoenix king has sent me to the southlands to help restore the great vortex created by my
00:11:23.420 forebear the great calador dragon team
00:11:27.980 the bowmen of orion dwell nearby
00:11:31.100 fellow elves of the azrae who could prove strong allies should we choose to help them
00:11:36.460 locations of arcane power are close where we can gather the wave fragments we need some appear
00:11:49.660 uninhabited others may require us to remove the primitive creatures that inhabit them 0.68
00:11:56.060 further afield are ancient ports once under assur control we could reclaim them for better communications
00:12:03.340 back to oswan but must be wary that these deserts are the realm of undead kings
00:12:09.500 who would sooner go to war than have us annex their lands 0.86
00:12:14.060 tyrian and teclis may consider themselves the foremost defenders of the vortex
00:12:19.340 but they shall soon see that the bloodline of the house of calador still runs hot with dragon fire
00:12:25.020 all right highly epic
00:12:31.820 so what we have here is our the undead kings are a paltry threat but for the vortex's sake
00:12:39.740 we can take no risks driving them from their tombs will not be enough we must claim their nearest necropolis
00:12:45.740 necropolis that sounds like a reasonable course of action so anyway we have our
00:12:51.420 gallant hero prince imrik here or imrik should i say and uh he starts with a trusted horse he can
00:13:01.340 get a dragon later on and uh here we have some tomb kings and for anyone who isn't familiar with
00:13:08.940 warhammer lore tomb kings are basically undead egyptians so you have here um yeah basically
00:13:16.220 ancient egypt you have the nile here and uh some surrounding lands so what i will do then
00:13:24.540 is strike up i will initiate an alliance with our esteemed wood elf friends here and then just go
00:13:34.860 about conquering these uncivilized peoples around me so uh yeah we can actually head into
00:13:44.060 battle to to see how it looks and it can be a good good idea for this episode so i'm just gonna
00:13:56.700 head into it directly uh okay i won't actually because you can see it's the yellow bar is our
00:14:09.820 strength versus their strength so it would be a very one-sided battle so i can use how to resolve that
00:14:18.140 and we can what can we do how we can ransom captives and we get some influence per turn
00:14:24.940 boom i will actually do it influence is always good so anyway as i was mentioning in regards to
00:14:30.620 that sense of epicness and adventure you can see here we're stranded with our high elf expedition
00:14:36.700 in the middle of the desert and you have some jungles and some mountains and different races etc
00:14:42.220 really captures the heroic sensation of it and then an untamed ocean of course so anyway i will
00:14:50.620 actually leave it there because time is of the essence i don't have as much time as i used to so
00:14:57.340 i can't make all too much of these videos but uh yeah anyway i hope this whole special video was
00:15:05.980 enjoyable to watch and perhaps motivating and and if you're playing something you might as well play
00:15:11.260 warhammer total war it's a truly great game so anyway thank you for watching xxo boom
