00:01:14.080 standing on the Capitol Hill steps. And I go up to talk to him and I asked him about, I was with

00:01:18.680 Mark Mitchell at the time, about the Congressional Slush Fund, about the slush fund in Congress

00:01:25.000 that's used to pay off and silence people who are victims of sexual harassment,

00:01:32.040 sexual abuse, and other cases.

00:01:33.760 And I asked him because he sat on the Financial Services Committee.

00:01:36.340 And he looked at me, and he pretty much laughed in my face like it was some joke.

00:01:39.580 Now, Congressman Barr is running for Senate in Kentucky.

00:01:43.640 But as we've seen over the last two days, I think the walls are going to start to cave in.

00:05:39.120 And just today, just today, folks, a fifth woman, a fifth woman coming out to shed some light on the abuses of Eric Swalwell.

00:05:53.500 This is a CBS News interview with two women who say Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell sexually harassed them.

00:06:03.920 Swalwell denies allegations of sexual misconduct, but he did suspend his campaign for governor on Sunday and then announced he's going to resign from Congress.

00:06:37.780 Now, the crazy thing to me is in this day and age, everything and everyone has one of these.

00:08:30.720 And they told us it wasn't an easy decision,

00:08:32.640 but that they've been shocked to discover how many women had stories about Swalwell

00:08:45.600 out of fear what were you afraid of well at first i thought i was all alone annika albrecht was

00:08:52.240 still in college when she says she got what she thought was a big break california congressman

00:08:57.800 eric swalwell offering to stay in touch after meeting with her student group in washington dc

00:09:03.500 he offered to mentor me wow that was as someone who knew virtually nothing about politics at the

00:09:11.200 time or no one. That was just an incredibly generous offer that I felt very lucky to have.

00:09:18.740 She says Swalwell created a group chat with all the students and then added her as a friend on

00:09:24.300 the messaging app Snapchat. And so I asked the other people that were in the meeting, did he

00:09:30.020 add them? And they said no. Were they all men? Yes. I was the only woman in the meeting. She says

00:09:36.820 Swalwell, who was then in his late 30s, started out talking politics, but his messages soon turned

00:09:43.000 flirtatious. Ultimately, it reached a point where he invited me to a hotel to meet him.

00:09:51.840 It was very clear what the connotation was. At that point, I completely stopped responding.

00:10:00.400 What I keep thinking back to is how lucky I am that I didn't go to that hotel.

00:10:07.600 Alisa Marco says she had a similar experience in 2021.

00:10:12.280 She sent Swalwell a supportive message on Twitter.

00:10:15.340 And to her surprise, he messaged right back.

00:10:18.180 I was so excited.

00:10:20.020 I was a low-level staffer who had no real political background.

00:10:24.700 And he was this established figure in Democratic politics.

00:10:27.880 They began to text, but she says he soon asked if she, too, was on Snapchat, where messages and photos automatically get deleted after they're viewed.

00:10:38.380 How did the tenor of his conversation change?

00:10:43.160 It started out as professional and platonic, and then slowly they became more and more explicit, asking me what I was wearing.

00:10:52.340 then one night he was on a trip and he was laying in his hotel room bed and then he sent me a photo

00:11:00.020 of his penis. Samarco showed us text messages she sent to friends at the time about Swalwell's

00:11:06.640 alleged advances. In one, she wrote, he's snapping me right now, asking when he can see me. But

00:11:13.260 beyond that, both women said little for years as they built careers as democratic campaign

00:11:19.500 strategists. I was terrified that if I spoke out against him, then people would think that

00:11:26.520 I was a loose cannon, that I couldn't be trusted, that maybe I'm making it up.

00:11:32.720 That was until Swalwell decided to run for governor of California.

00:13:07.620 Swalwell accusers. Democratic candidate currently leading in the California governor's race has a

00:13:12.240 known history of being predatory towards women. I could never have guessed where it would lead us.

00:13:17.420 Where did it lead? I was immediately slammed with DMs from other women who said,

00:13:26.720 I have a story to tell. And that was when I realized that this was a lot bigger than I think

00:13:32.040 any of us knew. Swalwell has acknowledged what he called mistakes of judgment, but denied all

00:13:38.100 allegations of sexual misconduct. They have never happened. And I will fight them with everything

00:13:43.300 that I have. And yet on Sunday, he suspended his bid for governor and yesterday announced his plan

00:13:49.460 to resign from Congress. Is that justice in your view? I think we just prevented another 30 to 40

00:13:56.280 years potentially of him harming people if he were to stay in Congress. Yeah. So in that sense,

00:14:01.620 I think we have served justice for his future victims that won't exist anymore.

00:14:09.180 We reached out to Swalwell multiple times to ask about these specific allegations,

00:14:14.140 and we did not hear back.

00:14:16.160 In videos, though, he has accused the women of teaming up with MAGA Republicans or even

00:14:20.980 a rival campaign.

00:14:22.880 The women we spoke to say that is simply not true.

00:14:26.020 In fact, Ali and Anika said they didn't even know each other before they came forward.

00:14:30.480 It's pretty remarkable what they accomplished just in the past 14.

00:14:35.060 So according to Swalwell, when, you know, it's Donald Trump, they're accusing, we have to believe the accusers.

00:14:40.020 But when they're coming after him, we have to not believe the accusers.

00:15:48.080 Now, as what it sounds like, these are criminal acts that were done by Eric Swalwell, and probably inside the Statue of Limitations, as they just happened years ago, depending on the state of where you are.

00:16:38.200 released a statement calling for him to sit down with the FBI to share his story.

00:16:44.520 The FBI director also called on others to come forward with relevant information

00:16:48.540 on the sexual assault allegations surrounding Swalwell.

00:16:53.140 Cash Patel writing on Twitter, quote,

00:16:56.240 Eric Swalwell has maintained that none of the allegations against him are true,

00:16:59.940 and now that he's resigned, we would welcome him to come sit down with the FBI

00:17:03.340 and share any information that he has.

00:17:05.760 We also encourage and welcome any person with relevant information to any of these matters to come speak with us.

00:17:13.120 Now, in addition to being in the FBI crosshairs for this, Swal also faces investigations from the House Ethics Committee, which now will go away because he's no longer a congressman.

00:17:24.020 That's how it works. Very smart, very witty, since you no longer fall under their jurisdiction.

00:17:29.820 And he's also under investigation from the Manhattan District Attorney.

00:17:36.040 It's nice to see that they go after other people besides Donald Trump.

00:17:40.260 Carged and convicted, Swalwell is likely facing years behind bars, and he should be especially worried because his own party has deemed him a damaging burden.

00:17:55.840 Now, the Manhattan District Attorney, as I said, launched an investigation into Swalwell over the allegations of sexual assault.

00:18:02.800 San Francisco Chronicle will break in the story about those two women who claimed that Swalwell sexually assaulted him.

00:18:09.740 The woman who worked as a staffer of Swalwell's office for two years told the Chronicle that Swalwell began pursuing her just weeks after she was hired at the age of 21 in 2019.

00:18:18.840 After the San Francisco Chronicle dropped their bombshell report on Swalwell, those three additional women came forward with evidence about more sexual misconduct from Swalwell back in 2019.

00:18:31.880 Staffer also said that Swalwell raped her years later in 2024 after she left his employment.

00:18:38.680 So that's the investigation now that's taking place in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.
