00:00:41.400 The CNN debate kicked off on Thursday night and it was it was all what we expected.
00:00:45.640 Joe Biden, a total mess. Donald Trump showed up dominant better than we could have ever expected.
00:00:52.460 To take all this up, we asked preeminent pollster and Republican strategist John McLaughlin to join us today.
00:00:58.880 John, it's great to have you with us.
00:01:00.580 It took only 12 minutes for Trump to break Biden before he went on to his first tirade, got confused, lost.
00:01:08.560 And then finally, Jake Tapper bailed him out. What do you make of it?
00:01:11.420 Well, you know, when you think about it, we released a poll right before national poll, right before the debate that came out the day before, actually, where Trump was leading Biden in our poll 4644.
00:01:26.240 He's been leading him in the national popular vote since 20, since September of 2021.
00:01:33.400 And this was a this was a debate that Biden had to try to reestablish himself as a viable candidate for president.
00:01:43.100 So he agreed to a debate that CNN would be the venue.
00:01:47.260 We had no choice. It was all at Biden's, you know, it was his kind of gamble.
00:01:52.020 He set it up. We would have CNN pick the moderators.
00:01:56.160 And so you had, you know, Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, who long history being biased against President Trump.
00:02:03.340 And, you know, they barred RFK because that would have been unfair.
00:02:07.180 You would have four liberals attacking Trump instead of three liberals.
00:02:10.980 But, you know, and Trump, the mic, they could cut him off.
00:02:14.360 So no audience. So it was all to Biden's benefit.
00:02:20.560 And ultimately, you got a better debate in that.
00:02:24.040 You know, you have to give credit to Bash and Tapper.
00:02:26.820 They ask questions because like when our survey was published, when we ask people the first or second issue, first or second choice for issues, they'd want to have asked.

00:02:41.860 31 percent said the borders and, you know, immigration.
00:02:46.480 Another 21 percent said economy and jobs.

00:02:51.420 So they really asked about those issues.
00:02:53.380 Only 15 percent asked about January 6th and defending democracy.
00:02:59.100 And only 15 percent, first or second choice, asked about abortion.

00:03:04.080 And, you know, but President Trump was sharp.
00:03:08.300 He was in command of facts and figures.
00:03:11.320 And he's been disciplined.
00:03:12.820 You know, when you think of everything that Donald Trump has endured over the past couple of years or even while he was president with the impeachments, the fake impeachments, you know, they're trying to take away his wealth.

00:03:26.960 The only crime that Trump committed was he's ahead in the polls.
00:03:29.660 This year, they had a, you know, fake trial in New York where, you know, they rigged it up so that, you know, Manhattan jury on charges.

00:03:41.520 You know, they said he was guilty, but it wasn't a fair trial.
00:03:47.740 And then, you know, the bad part for Trump now is he's still ahead in the polls, all the battleground states, national vote.
00:03:54.980 But if he stays ahead after July 4th, this Judge Marshawn, whose daughter is one of the leading political consultants for Joe Biden, he could end up putting Donald Trump in Rikers Island.

00:05:15.820 And then they're not saying shut the border.
00:05:18.440 You know, they're they're they're not talking about ending the war in Ukraine and Gaza.
00:05:23.220 You know, on our terms of being strong, they're not talking about fighting crime and keeping criminals in jail.
00:05:29.200 I mean, so there's a bias in the media that they favor Joe Biden because they like his policies.
00:05:36.960 I mean, it's an exploitation of the middle class in America.

00:05:41.480 They've been inflation lowers our standard of living.
00:05:44.620 People are getting crushed where they can't get ahead.

00:06:07.140 Because I think they were hoping that Biden would carry it off like he did, you know,

00:06:16.000 But, you know, it helped him secure his nomination that he didn't lose primaries.

00:06:28.060 I'm not sure the prep that Donald Trump did, but I'm pretty sure it was minimal to know because, you know,
00:06:33.000 he knows everything he did for this country.

00:06:36.960 He knows, I think, where he went wrong in the first term and where he'll fix that up.
00:06:41.760 And most of it is just simple personnel issues.

00:06:49.360 But in your poll this month, 68 percent of people say the country is on the wrong track.

00:07:02.180 And when they asked him, you know, his simple answer was, you know, we can do better.

00:07:29.420 You've got a glimpse of Donald Trump's character towards the end of the debate when he said he didn't want to run again.

00:07:37.340 But he just seen what Biden's done to the country.
00:07:40.900 And in Trump's words, he's the worst president in the history of the United States.
00:07:45.660 He felt compelled that he has to he has to, you know, run again and put the right policies back in place.
00:07:51.920 I mean, you know, it was amazing.
00:07:54.300 Biden was running last night on a pledge to raise taxes.
00:07:58.220 He wants to let the tax cuts expire that would put the country in a recession, if not a depression.
00:08:06.400 And he's so Biden is taking a page out of Walter Mondale's book for 1984 and running on a massive tax increase that didn't work well in 84.
00:08:15.980 It's not going to work well this year.
00:08:17.860 And Trump, he wants to grow the economy.
00:08:20.740 And Trump was very specific about revenues going up, about economic growth, about what he wants to do for the country.

00:08:28.860 You know, Trump put these massive tariffs on China because China was taking advantage of America and no president has ever done it before.
00:08:35.040 And Biden could not answer the simple question.
00:08:37.280 Why haven't you removed the tariffs?
00:08:38.600 If tariffs are so bad and when Trump gets back in, he pledged that he would he wants to he wants to cut, you know, income tax and maybe raise tariffs on other countries on imports.
00:08:48.600 If they were so bad and they're going to they're going to send this country into a recession, why has he left the China tariffs on?

00:08:57.680 Yeah. And by the way, in our national poll that we had out before the debate, 62 to 27 percent, all voters approve of no federal income taxes on tips.

00:09:15.680 You know, he wants to tax everybody who's a who's working for a living.

00:09:29.900 And that's what you know, that was a great benefit to President Trump last night in the debate.

00:09:38.020 And Biden comes back and says, oh, it's not true.

00:09:42.000 And I tell you, the line of the night was when Donald Trump hit him and he says, you know, I don't know what you're talking about.

00:10:46.380 So we've got President Biden's job approval in there.
00:10:51.220 And he's a 41 approved, 57 disapproved.
00:10:54.900 The important thing about this debate was, although Trump's ahead in the national polls and there's about 10 percent of the voters that are undecided,
00:11:02.920 you have 14 percent that disapprove of the job that Joe Biden's doing that are not yet voting for Donald Trump.
00:11:09.740 So there's more votes for us to go get.
00:11:11.680 They're waiting to see.
00:11:12.760 And what they saw last night should help many to make the decision that they have to vote for Donald Trump.
00:11:17.980 And, you know, the CNN, they did their own panel survey of people online after it.
00:11:25.060 And the people that watch, they said Trump won that two to one.
00:11:28.560 Kamala Harris, by the way, Trump beats her even more than better than Joe Biden.
00:11:33.460 She's the one thing about her is she's she's basically impeachment insurance.
00:11:38.580 As long as she's around, Biden won't get impeached.
00:11:41.260 But and and as far as President Trump goes, his numbers have improved.
00:11:47.040 But we really haven't tracked his job approval because he's not president anymore.
00:11:50.840 So but most voters, what I've seen in polls, most voters think he did a good job as president.
00:11:56.500 He has a positive job approval and people, the majority voters approve his policies.
00:12:02.480 But Joe Biden, who used to be somewhat liked, is now, you know, his favorable rating is only 42 percent.
00:12:11.320 Just as unfavorable as 56. So it really matches up to his job approval.
00:12:16.020 So, you know, people want a president who's going to do something for them.
00:12:20.340 It's really not about the personalities of of Joe Biden or Donald Trump.
00:12:25.040 We've got severe problems in this country.
00:12:27.240 They think the economy is going to get worse.
00:12:28.760 Sixty two to thirty one. Eighty four percent, but negatively impacted by inflation.
00:12:33.400 Forty nine percent of all Americans to the point where they can't afford basic necessities.
00:12:38.640 You know, you have. And by the way, with these prosecutions, Donald Trump, 62 percent of all voters agree that if they could Joe Biden can do that to Donald Trump, he can do it to any American.
00:12:50.240 So they've got big problems and they want to feel you know, they want to go back to peace and prosperity.
00:12:56.780 They want to feel safe in their communities. They want their dollar to be worth something.
00:13:01.160 They want an end to inflation. They want to be able to afford to buy a new car, to buy a home, to basically be able to pay their bills without having to worry how they're going to get through to the next month.
00:13:11.700 And that's what Donald Trump was speaking about last night. And Joe, it's just missing the point.

00:13:36.040 Van Jones about to cry. Friedman from The New York Times today said he wept after after watching it.
00:13:42.640 And, you know, you hear Republicans. Laura Trump was on Fox News after it.
00:13:46.600 You know, they feel bad for him. And then they say, you know, we can't feel bad because this man, what he's done to President Trump after these persecutions is just disgusting.
00:13:55.940 It's just not it's inhumane. The things that they've done to him.
00:13:59.760 And it comes down to a point anymore where, you know, there's no being cordial.
00:14:03.360 It's it's you know, it's do or die. They want Trump in jail for hundreds of years.
00:14:09.020 And like you said, you know, in July, we're going to see if one chance sends Donald Trump to Rikers Island.

00:14:50.820 I'm 54 to 31. But but I've told President Trump is, you know, he's going to try to make you the Nelson Mandela of America, where we've never seen this.
00:15:02.200 It's unprecedented in the history of America. But he went through all these indictments, the mugshots, the the the the the trial, the purple.
00:15:11.360 Or it's, you know, they're trying to humiliate him and break him.
00:15:16.300 And he he's fighting, like he says, this is not about me. This is about you.
00:15:21.200 He's fighting for the forgotten men and women of America, the ones who really realize that they could lose their jobs, like all the workers in Michigan, the ones who the ones who feel they could lose their homes because they can't afford it.

00:18:06.860 We heard morning Joe, who once said Trump was a threat to democracy and Biden will save democracy, now says Biden's a threat to democracy and we've got to get rid of him.

00:18:24.080 Um, I, you know, I don't think they can get rid of him unless he voluntarily steps down and Joe Biden, you know, he and his family love him being president and I don't see them stepping down anywhere.

00:18:40.160 So, while the Democrats may be, you know, in a, in somewhat of a, a panic mode, um, they ultimately, it's not because they really care about Joe Biden.
