Hurricane Milton is battering towards the west coast of Florida.

Milton was centered early Wednesday at about 360 miles southwest of Tampa with the maximum sustained winds of 160 miles an hour.

As it closed in, more than 1 million people in coastal area regions remained under evacuation orders,

those fleeing for higher ground battling clogged highways and shuttered gas stations across the state.
