00:00:00.000 Hello everybody, I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Tuesday, March 4th.
00:00:05.120 Happy Tuesday, I hope your days are all off to a great start.
00:00:08.540 Big day for President Trump.
00:00:09.920 President Trump is set to speak before a joint session of Congress this evening,
00:00:13.920 marking his first address since returning to the White House.
00:00:17.020 This will be the first speech of its kind Trump has made during his second term in office.
00:00:21.360 Traditionally, of course, presidents deliver an annual report to Congress
00:00:24.160 informing them about the state of play in the United States,
00:00:27.140 including goals, accomplishments, and plans for the year ahead.
00:00:30.780 Usually this occurs within the first few months or a first year and is broadcast to the entire nation.
00:00:36.280 This is what is known as the State of the Union.
00:00:38.700 Trump is expected to talk about what he's done since taking office in January
00:00:41.920 and his agenda for the next four years.
00:00:44.660 The event tonight will technically not be a State of the Union address.
00:00:48.020 In January, House Speaker Mike Johnson invited President Trump through a letter addressing the president,
00:00:53.600 saying it's his, quote, distinct honor and great privilege to invite you to a joint session of Congress
00:00:58.280 on Tuesday, March 4th, in the Chamber of the United States House of Representatives
00:01:02.340 to share your America First vision for our legislative future.
00:01:06.900 So it's unclear how many Democrats will be going, if any.
00:01:11.660 These Marxist Dems have been having a very tough time with President Trump and his agenda,
00:01:15.840 his America First agenda.
00:01:17.020 So unclear on how many Marxist Dems will be protesting and not attending,
00:01:23.200 but we'll keep you up to date as we learn more info here on The Great America Show.
00:01:28.800 President Trump has paused all military aid, including weapons in transit to Ukraine,
00:01:34.100 after Vladimir Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, says the end of the war with Russia
00:01:37.840 is, quote, very, very far away.
00:01:41.140 That pause will hold all military aid that's currently in transit.
00:01:44.320 Earlier this week, Trump says he had absolutely had it with Zelensky,
00:01:48.700 digging his heels in and refusing to come to the table to a peace agreement with Russia.
00:01:52.960 Zelensky does not want peace with Russia, and President Trump has absolutely had enough of it.
00:01:57.280 Folks, it's completely unclear what Vladimir Zelensky wants for his country moving forward.
00:02:02.820 He's called for peace for years now, that he wants this war to end.
00:02:06.620 President Trump gets an agreement done.
00:02:08.420 He gets Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin on the same page to end this war.
00:02:15.220 And then when it comes time to sign the agreement, Zelensky wants nothing to do with peace.
00:02:19.840 You can't have your cake and eat it, too.
00:02:21.600 So Zelensky's got to reevaluate what exactly he wants here,
00:02:26.500 because patience is running out on the American side.
00:02:29.320 Donald Trump, as I said, has had enough of this man who clearly doesn't want peace.
00:02:34.500 And the New York FBI field office head, forced out days after his office,
00:02:39.600 was revealed to have been hiding thousands of Epstein documents.
00:02:44.120 James Danaehy is the assistant director in charge of that FBI field office.
00:02:48.180 He was told this week that it was his time to go.
00:02:51.980 He was informed, he says in a letter to NBC,
00:02:55.300 that I, quote, needed to put my retirement papers in today, which I just did,
00:02:59.340 in an email to NBC News.
00:03:01.340 He says, I was not given a reason for this decision, he says.
00:03:04.800 I think we all know the decision and the reason why he's being asked to go.
00:03:09.860 He's part of the swamp.
00:03:11.360 Swamp creatures have to go. 0.63
00:03:13.240 No more exceptions for these people. 0.97
00:03:15.000 They're ruining our country.
00:03:16.560 They're ruining every fabric down to the last one.
00:03:19.780 So great on Kash Patel and his FBI for doing all they can to keep the transparency alive
00:03:25.980 in such a tough, tough time.
00:03:29.480 So great on Kash Patel.
00:03:31.960 And the Senate has finally confirmed Linda McMahon to be the next education secretary,
00:03:36.460 the secretary of Department of Education, I should say, by a vote of 51 to 45.
00:03:41.800 McMahon set to take over this morning in her official role as secretary of education.
00:03:49.940 And folks, it's everyone's favorite time of the year.
00:03:53.180 It's a time when we've got to get the spending bills through.
00:03:55.460 So spending bill text is expected to be finalized over this coming weekend,
00:04:00.780 according to top Republicans in the House.
00:04:03.000 GLB congressional leaders are aiming to release the text of the government funding stopgap,
00:04:07.760 like I said, over the weekend.
00:04:09.480 President Trump has been adamant about it,
00:04:11.600 that he wants a clean continuing resolution through the end of September.
00:04:15.220 Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said in recent interviews that he would heed the directive
00:04:19.640 and not seek to codify cuts made in Trump's Department of Government Efficiency
00:04:23.520 until the fiscal year of 2026, beginning in the fall.
00:04:28.240 Tom Cole, Congressman Tom Cole, who's the House Appropriations Chair,
00:04:31.760 said that the package will have a number of additional funding requests from the administration,
00:04:35.780 including several defense requests to soften the blow of flat spending.
00:04:39.620 Trump signed off on the mostly clean stopgap funding gap through September
00:04:44.440 during a meeting with Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune last week.
00:04:49.660 So no government shutdown is coming, folks.
