00:00:00.000 Hello everybody, I'm John Fossett with this Great America Show midday update for Wednesday, April 2nd.
00:00:04.980 Happy Wednesday, folks.
00:00:06.220 Well, today is Liberation Day in America, says President Trump.
00:00:10.480 Reciprocal tariffs went into effect today on many nations across the world who have tariffs on America.
00:00:17.880 It took just hours for some to fold.
00:00:20.220 Israel announcing this morning, just shortly after, that they would be taking all tariffs off American goods.
00:00:25.840 Mexico also announcing they will not retaliate against America and Donald Trump for those tariffs being put on place.
00:00:33.860 And Ontario Premier Doug Ford, that's the fella who just last week said he wants to inflict as much pain on the American people as possible
00:00:43.020 because of the tariffs that we're putting on Canada as a result of what they've done to us.
00:00:48.720 Well, he's got a much, much different tune today.
00:00:52.580 Much different than last week.
00:00:54.020 Take a listen to Ontario's Premier Doug Ford this morning on CNBC.
00:01:01.040 Let's sit down and discuss this because it's just going to hurt American jobs. 0.99
00:01:07.100 I can't stress it enough.
00:01:09.200 And, you know, again, he believes he's supporting Americans.
00:01:14.040 He said he was going to create jobs, create wealth, reduce inflation.
00:01:19.200 It's worked the total opposite.
00:01:20.460 But do you think it's fair that you have tariffs on a whole number of products?
00:01:24.960 That's right.
00:01:25.800 And we'd be willing to take those off tomorrow if he took all the tariffs off.
00:01:29.760 We are not the problem.
00:01:31.360 Andrew, do you know what the problem is?
00:01:33.180 China's the problem. 0.98
00:01:34.760 And he's taking a blind eye to China as they continue to build their critical mineral mass.
00:01:40.600 We have all the critical minerals that our great neighbors need.
00:01:44.800 We have the energy that our great neighbors need.
00:01:47.840 I just want to go back for a moment.
00:01:49.780 If, in fact, you're prepared to take your tariffs off, why wouldn't you have that negotiation and that conversation now before any tariffs get put in place?
00:01:57.660 Well, we've had this conversation for over the last month.
00:02:01.140 We don't want tariffs.
00:02:02.700 We have another $65 billion with a tariff to launch today.
00:02:07.780 That's the last thing we want to do because it's just, again, it's going to hurt both countries.
00:02:14.260 It's going to hurt American workers. 0.52
00:02:16.080 That's the last thing I want.
00:02:18.180 Andrew, take the other ones off, not the ones you're launching today.
00:02:21.320 The ones that you already got.
00:02:23.360 You're saying you take all your tariffs off.
00:02:25.700 I'm saying we will take them off.
00:02:27.160 That's right.
00:02:28.140 Why is that not already?
00:02:29.300 I guess my question is, why has all of that not already happened?
00:02:32.920 And does President Trump know that you'd be prepared to do that?
00:02:37.200 He knows.
00:02:38.080 And Secretary Lepnick knows that we're willing to take these tariffs off in the next minute if he said he's taking their tariffs off.
00:02:46.600 Let's look at the auto sector.
00:02:48.280 A much different tune, folks.
00:02:49.920 This is the man who said last week that he wanted to cripple America.
00:02:53.020 Now, all of a sudden, he doesn't want tariffs or any problems.
00:02:57.660 But as you hear, the CNBC anchors there, Sorkin and his co-host, why haven't they taken off the tariffs that are already on us in the first place?
00:03:08.320 The 200-plus percent quota tariff on any dairy products into America.
00:03:12.860 Why are those even on in the first place?
00:03:15.320 Brilliant questions.
00:03:16.140 And hats off to CNBC for making those points on Wall Street today.
00:03:20.400 Stock market pretty immune to these tariffs.
00:03:23.400 Stocks were flat in midday trading, ending up in the green through the midday trading, up a few hundred points on the Dow.
00:03:30.040 And the NASDAQ up less than 100 on the S&P 500.
00:03:34.620 As I said, markets are already immune to the tariffs.
00:03:37.220 I don't think they, you know, cared much to worry about what was going on with the tariffs because it's already baked in the cake.
00:03:45.440 Amazon is making a last-ditch effort, jumping in the sweepstakes to buy TikTok.
00:03:51.260 There's a deadline Saturday night.
00:03:53.080 China's parent company, ByteDance, who owns TikTok, being forced to sell the company.
00:03:57.740 Jeff Bezos of Amazon making a last-minute push to maybe purchase TikTok.
00:04:03.280 We'll keep you updated.
00:04:04.160 This is breaking news as of right this moment.
00:04:07.580 We'll keep you updated on how that plays out and if he is able to go ahead and do that.
00:04:12.280 Criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been dismissed.
00:04:16.280 That was the one that President Trump cleared Eric Adams and asked his Justice Department to drop those charges against Adams,
00:04:23.400 citing that it's just another political witch hunt like they did to President Trump.
00:04:27.880 Hunter Biden has filed an affidavit declaring his consent to disbarment.
00:04:32.120 But the D.C. Bar Disciplinary Council has sealed it, arguing releasing it would be particularly unfair to Hunter given the intense media scrutiny.
00:04:42.660 So Hunter is giving up his law license, but we can't see the documents behind it because it's not our business.
00:04:47.920 An officer of the court, and it's not our business.
00:04:51.160 Go figure, folks.
00:04:52.240 The Biden crime family getting protected once again, folks.
00:04:57.180 Folks, please be sure to join us each and every day and today, 6 p.m. Eastern Time, for The Great America Show and twice a day for The Great America Show Midday Updates,
