00:02:44.500 rivals have been the Antichrist. For instance, during the Protestant Reformation, many of the

00:02:49.640 most important names tried to claim that the papacy itself was the Antichrist prophesied in

00:02:56.040 Holy Scripture. But today, we're going to look at some exclusive theological research LifeSite

00:03:01.980 News has published, cut through the media sensationalism, and see what we can know for sure

00:03:08.000 about this terrifying figure of evil. First things first, while there have been many foreshadowings in

00:03:16.040 both historical figures and systems, the Antichrist will be a single man, a single human person.

00:03:28.680 But nonetheless, he will have amazing charism and powers of seduction and deception,

00:03:34.720 such that he will draw almost the whole world to himself. Many authors say, based on Scripture,

00:03:41.040 that he will start his career in a lowly and obscure way. But because of his personal powers

00:03:46.400 and diabolical assistance, he will rocket to a position of great power and influence,

00:03:51.920 even unto worldwide rule. In the Apocalypse, or Revelations, the last book of the Bible,

00:03:58.020 St. John writes concerning Antichrist, and I quote,

00:04:01.940 power was given him over every tribe and people and tongue and nation, end quote. He will also perform

00:04:10.320 amazing feats, which many will take to be miracles. Over time, the Antichrist will declare that he is

00:04:17.040 the true Christ or Messiah, and according to the fathers and doctors of the Church,

00:04:21.100 he will sadly deceive the Jewish people into believing this claim and accepting him as their

00:04:27.740 long-awaited Messiah. Many of the fathers teach this sad fact, such as St. Jerome, St. Gregory the

00:04:35.100 Great, St. Ambrose, and others, based on the words of our Lord himself in the Scriptures. Jesus said,

00:04:42.080 I am come in the name of my Father, and you receive me not. If another shall come in his own name,

00:04:48.440 him you will receive. And that's from the Gospel of John, chapter 5, verse 42.

00:04:54.740 This is also the view held by mystics such as Bartholomew Holtshauser and Mary of Agreda,

00:05:00.900 who wrote the great works, The City of God. This mystic, Mary of Agreda, is said to have talked about

00:05:05.880 a difficult period for the Jewish people, she saw the future, of course, who will in the end approach

00:05:12.180 the Antichrist for help, and presumably at that time the Antichrist will be seen simply as a great

00:05:17.840 statesman or some kind of leading politician or whatever. But Mary of Agreda writes this, and I

00:05:23.120 quote, he will now declare himself ready to fulfill their wishes, talking to the Jewish people's wishes,

00:05:27.940 right? While at the same time he will arouse the neighboring nations to revolution. The Jews will

00:05:35.440 finally bring him a costly crown and a kingly garment, as well as a scepter, and declare him

00:05:42.500 as their freely elected king. End quote. But as I've said, this isn't just based on the words of one or

00:05:50.200 two mystics. It's what the fathers and doctors of the, and the great theologians of the church thought

00:05:56.860 was going to happen. So we're on safe ground thinking that the Jewish people will be deceived into

00:06:04.300 accepting the Antichrist as their Moshiach. Moshiach, that's the Hebrew word for Messiah, and it's a

00:06:10.940 handy way to mark when we're talking about the idea of the earthly Messiah, and thinking about these

00:06:17.000 matters from their perspective. The Antichrist will probably himself be of Jewish origin. Some say that

00:06:23.420 he will be of the tribe of Dan, but others disagree, and it's an open question. However, once he's acclaimed,

00:06:30.520 he will quickly use his worldwide power to persecute the church of our Lord Jesus Christ and wage war

00:06:37.560 on God. Most authors think that he will begin with a deceptive show of kindness and greatness,

00:06:44.520 but even then he will be persecuting the church and denying the divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ

00:06:50.100 and moving towards setting himself in the place of Jesus Christ.

00:08:35.880 that's the Antichrist, man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and is lifted up above

00:08:41.880 all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sits in the temple of God, showing himself

00:08:49.760 as if he were God. So there it is, the temple. So as I mentioned before, there isn't a consensus on

00:08:57.160 where this temple will be. Some authorities say that the temple in which the Antichrist will sit

00:09:02.840 will be either the church or perhaps a church, a significant one, maybe like St. Peter's Basilica

00:09:08.540 in Rome or elsewhere. Some think that he will reign from Rome itself, although it seems more common to

00:09:13.960 think that Rome will be the seat of something called the false prophet during a vacancy in the

00:09:19.140 Holy See. And that's what some 20th century theologians said before Vatican II. Others, in fact most,

00:09:26.820 it seems, say that the temple refers to a literal temple in Jerusalem, which Antichrist will rebuild

00:09:34.560 after it was destroyed in 70 AD by the Romans. Before we go on, I want to do just a really quick

00:09:40.820 detour on that, because there's a really amazing story. In the 4th century, Julian the Apostate was

00:09:47.660 an emperor of Rome. He actually knew two saints, Gregory of Nanciansus and Basil the Great. When he became

00:09:55.900 emperor, he unveiled his true views and tried to take Rome back to paganism. He struck up an odd

00:10:02.800 alliance with some Jewish groups and tried to rebuild the Jerusalem temple as a means of disproving

00:10:09.600 Christ's prophecy that the temple would be destroyed. And that did not go very well. A Roman historian who

00:10:16.320 was himself a soldier under Julian tells us the following, and I quote,

00:10:19.980 the undertaking was frustrated in a miraculous manner. The place was made inaccessible by fearful

00:10:26.720 balls of fire that broke out near the foundations and so scorched and burned the workmen that they

00:10:33.160 were forced to retire. The frequent attacks finally caused the work to be abandoned, end quote. The

00:10:40.000 miraculous events which prevented Julian's rebuilding of the temple have been understood as vindicating

00:10:46.120 Christ's prophecy. Some take it as an indication that the temple will never be rebuilt. Others, however,

00:10:53.540 say that it is possible that the rebuilding of the temple was simply not to happen at that time.

00:10:58.960 Rebuilding this temple in Jerusalem is held to be a key means by which the Antichrist will deceive the

00:11:04.980 Jewish people into accepting him as Mosheach. That's the opinion of some very big names, Saints

00:11:11.220 Arrhenius, St. Hippolytus, St. Cyril of Jerusalem, St. Damascene, and others. It's a pretty reasonable

00:11:19.240 thing to think. From the Jewish perspective, rebuilding the temple and re-establishing the

00:11:23.900 sacrifice is one of their central conditions for recognizing that their earthly Mosheach has come.

00:11:30.120 In fact, it's the definitive confirmation that he has come according to the enormously influential

00:11:36.780 12th century Jewish sage, Maimonides. He writes about a possible Mosheach this way. He says, and I

00:11:43.500 quote, if he succeeds in the above, builds the temple in its place, and gathers the dispersed of

00:11:50.080 Israel, he is definitely the Mosheach, end quote. Not all the fathers and doctors of the church agree

00:11:58.360 that the Antichrist actually needs to succeed in doing this, that is, rebuilding the temple. You can see

00:12:04.300 that, for example, in St. Robert Bellarmine, the doctor of the church who says that, of the Antichrist,

00:12:08.840 that he will attempt to restore the temple, and that he would not be accepted by the Jews if he did

00:12:14.620 not, quote, in some way, restore the temple, end quote. So, there is a reason that the temple was

00:12:19.820 destroyed in 70 AD, and why Christ went out of his way to prophesy this event. We're used to a world

00:12:27.080 in which the Jewish religion exists without the temple, but at the time of Christ, it was completely

00:12:33.240 central to the Jewish religion. When it was destroyed, all of the different temple mitzvot,

00:12:40.360 it's called, that means the commandments or good deeds, became impossible, because they were all

00:12:45.420 predicated on having a temple and temple sacrifice. This was such a radical change, the ending of the

00:12:51.580 temple sacrifice, that even Jewish authors say that this destruction led to the birth of a new

00:12:57.640 religion, focused on the law and learning, rather than the temple and sacrifice. And that religion

00:13:04.360 is commonly called rabbinic Judaism. These aren't my words, by the way. They're the words of Alieza

00:13:11.220 Salzberg and MyJewishLearning.com, and many history books will tell you the same thing.

00:13:16.420 The destruction of the temple in 70 AD marked the conclusion of what had started with the tearing

00:13:23.220 of the veil in the temple at Christ's death. That tearing of the temple veil was divine proof

00:13:29.660 that the promises of the old covenant had been fulfilled. It was the time for what God promised

00:14:53.900 St. Thomas Aquinas says that when Christ died, the rights of the old law also died, in that they could

00:15:00.840 still be observed, but they were no longer effective or obligatory. But at a certain point,

00:15:08.340 once the gospel had been spread sufficiently, these rights became deadly too, in that they couldn't be

00:15:14.840 observed without mortal sin. This is because what these rights pointed to, Christ and redemption,

00:15:21.740 had actually already come. Their continued observation was basically a denial that everything

00:15:27.980 had been fulfilled by Christ. That's why, by the way, some warn that the Christian Seder meals at

00:15:35.240 Passover are problematic. And I know that everyone who does this has good intentions, but it would

00:15:41.200 probably have horrified St. Thomas Aquinas and other great lights of the Church. It's also why

00:15:47.520 Christians should not be getting involved in the restoring of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem.

00:15:53.780 A few weeks ago, we looked at Byron Stinson, the self-proclaimed Judeo-Christian, who had raised some

00:16:00.960 red heifers and taken them out to Israel in preparation for the building of the temple.

00:16:06.200 Again, Stinson obviously has good intentions too, but this attempt to resurrect Jewish rights was

00:16:13.520 always understood as a denial that Christ had already come in the flesh and fulfilled the law.

00:16:20.040 And that's precisely how St. John describes the Antichrist.

00:16:23.780 And I quote,

00:16:25.480 For many seducers are gone out into the world who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the

00:16:30.120 flesh. This is a seducer and an Antichrist. End quote. And that's from 2 John 1.7.

00:16:36.880 And then there's huge geopolitical problems. Imagine, they're trying to rebuild the Jerusalem temple.

00:16:43.020 Well, currently, on Temple Mount, there stands the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.

00:16:49.600 It's simply impossible to rebuild the Jewish temple without destroying the mosque, and the Islamic world

00:16:56.340 is not going to tolerate such destruction without further violence. But it's important to remember

00:17:01.660 that some of the Jewish authorities think that Moshiach's reign will commence with a great war

00:17:08.600 between two powers symbolically called Gog and Magog. And this talk of bloodshed actually leads us to the

00:17:15.760 fact that the Antichrist will bring about the cruelest, most brutal, most thorough, and most

00:17:22.280 horrible persecution in the history of the Church, or indeed the history of the world.

00:17:27.020 But what exactly is going to happen? Well, in the later stages of Antichrist, it will be a direct

00:17:33.440 and bloody persecution. We can get an eye for what it'll be like in the Gospels and in the events that

00:17:39.320 served as foreshadowings of this time to come. For example, the persecution of the Jews leading up to

00:17:45.800 the Maccabean Revolt, the persecution of Catholics by the pagan Roman Empire, the Aryans, the Protestant

00:17:51.860 Reformation, Nazi Germany, and Communist Russia. Theologians and mystics say that the Antichrist

00:17:58.640 persecution will surpass and combine these terrible times. St. Robert Bellarmine says that there will be

00:18:05.920 four broad stages of Antichrist. Number one, the Antichrist will start by prohibiting Christian

00:18:12.020 institutions and imposing Jewish laws and rights. Number two, he will proclaim himself as the Mosheach

00:18:19.120 and deceive the Jews who will help him establish himself further. Number three, he will then proclaim

00:18:26.360 himself to be God and demand worship from all when he is sitting in the temple, wherever that temple will be.

00:18:33.280 And number four, he will finally end by cursing all other gods and religions, including the true God

00:18:39.800 and true religion, as well as the sects which helped him to get to power. He'll abandon any pretense of

00:18:46.660 being the Jewish Mosheach and persecute the Jews too. Everyone will be required to worship him as God

00:18:54.360 and those who don't will be destroyed horribly. The good news, well if you can call it good news,

00:19:00.500 is that this terrible reign will be temporary. It will be short. Although, in fact, for those who

00:19:08.800 live through it, it'll seem like an eternity, I'm sure. But based on both the book of Daniel and the

00:19:14.420 book of the Apocalypse in the Bible, most Catholic authorities think that will last about three and a

00:19:19.520 half years or 1260 days as you'll read in the Bible. At that point, our Lord will destroy him. St. Paul

00:19:27.200 says that the Lord Jesus shall kill him with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy him with the

00:20:54.220 will be, though it will be terrible. Instead, I want to talk about how it will be at the beginning,

00:21:00.140 before any of the bloody persecution starts. And in fact, before even softer form of that persecution

00:21:05.560 starts, the world has to be ready for Antichrist to come. The world has to have fallen away from God

00:21:11.800 and from the true religion. Our Lord taught that both faith and charity would decay toward the end

00:21:17.600 of the world. That's what many call the great apostasy. This decay of faith and charity will be,

00:21:25.180 according to many writers, through the spread of naturalism. The idea that mankind can set aside

00:21:32.140 the truths of divine revelation and the Holy Trinity and the Incarnation and the Redemption.

00:21:38.480 It's the idea that we can live and exist without regard for the objective supernatural order established

00:21:44.960 and willed by God. If we aren't living in that time right now, I'd hate to see what the real great

00:21:53.860 apostasy will be like. But when the Antichrist first comes, many writers believe that he will begin

00:21:59.620 with a show of benevolence and reasonableness in his denial of Christianity and imposition of

00:22:05.920 his own religion. One writer says that, quote, he will hide behind a mask of moderation and feigned

00:22:11.960 holiness, end quote. How will that be? Well, it might start to make sense if we think of his early

00:22:17.880 stages as continuing the humanism and secularism of our time today. That certainly is how Monsignor

00:22:26.360 Robert Hugh Benson depicts it in his famous novel, Lord of the World. The Jewish convert priest,

00:22:32.660 Father Lehman, says that there will be two key measures in his persecution. One, the banning of

00:22:39.040 Christian teaching, and two, the obligation to teach error. And we can already see this drift and trend.

00:22:45.580 We can see it in England with the banning of silent prayer outside an abortion clinic and with the various

00:22:50.800 attempts to treat holy scripture as hate speech around the world. We can also see it in the

00:22:56.880 obligation to allow statues of Satan in government buildings on the grounds of religious freedom.

00:23:03.060 But in fact, the attempt to get Christianity out of the public square, to uncrown Christ, and to remove

00:23:10.800 him from his throne over our society has been going on for a very long time. And here again,

00:23:16.740 we're going to see an alignment between what Catholic theologians think will be the religion of

00:23:23.800 Antichrist and what significant Jewish authorities expect will be the religion for the Gentiles under

00:27:52.840 For example, the religious persecution of Antichrist is very similar to the religious utopia of the

00:27:59.280 earthly Mosheach. At an early stage, Antichrist will be denying the divinity of Christ, the Holy Trinity,

00:28:06.520 and the Christian religion itself. After all, he can't claim to be the earthly Mosheach of the Jews

00:28:12.640 without doing so, at least implicitly. This persecution will first come, it seems, in the form of another

00:28:19.900 false religion imposed at the expense of the true religion. Antichrist will start with a show of

00:28:27.220 benevolence, so it seems likely that this religion will claim to make man good, naturally good, without

00:28:32.760 Christ and his grace. This is what's called naturalism. Naturalism and the related idea of

00:28:40.900 rationalism is a ruling out of the supernatural. There are many things about God and morality which

00:28:48.860 can be known through natural reason alone. For example, God exists, he is one, he is perfect.

00:28:55.560 We should render everyone what they are due. Innocent men have a right to their lives,

00:28:59.860 therefore murder is unjust and wrong. An unborn baby is a human, a man, and therefore killing one

00:29:07.620 is unjust and wrong. And that's all great. The problem arises when we either exclude the possibility

00:29:15.080 of the supernatural, anything above nature, or when we exclude the actual objective supernatural

00:29:21.640 revelation which has come to us from Jesus Christ and his church. But naturalism is not just the denial

00:29:28.320 of the possibility that God could have elevated our natural life in order, or just the denial of that

00:29:35.760 order itself. It's also the denial of the objective fact that Christ, who is who he said he was, God incarnate

00:29:45.040 and the Redeemer, it's the denial of the Holy Trinity and the redemption, the life of grace and the church.

00:29:53.460 You can't get around that by professing belief in another supernatural order because there is no other

00:30:00.180 supernatural order. Naturalism is also the affirmation that society itself should be organized along the

00:30:08.680 lines of this denial of the supernatural order. In other words, society, laws, and government should act

00:30:15.440 as if it wasn't really known or certain that Jesus Christ is God, and so on. These objective

00:30:22.660 supernatural truths need to be relegated to the private sphere of opinion, we are told, because they

00:30:30.320 are supernatural. So, if that sounds reasonable to you, that's because the ideas of liberty of religion or

00:30:38.620 liberty of worship, as well as the separation of church and state have been in the main ideologies,

00:30:44.940 the mainstream advanced since the Enlightenment and the French Revolution. The goal has been the

00:30:52.660 de-Christianization of society and the fantasy of being good without Jesus Christ. It's about denying

00:30:59.340 that civil society itself has certain clear duties towards God and the true religion.

00:31:06.140 Pope St. Leo XIII condemned this approach in 1889 and called it, and I quote,

00:31:12.740 the legal apostasy of society from its divine author, end quote. Society has to recognize Christ is king

00:31:20.520 and govern and worship accordingly. My point is just to show how entrenched these ideas are in our

00:31:28.940 society. Many of us would shrink from the idea of saying that the Catholic Church should be the

00:31:35.380 religion of the state, but the alternative is state agnosticism, which is this legal apostasy and yet

00:31:42.520 another form of naturalism. This is accepting Christianity as one of the many possible permitted

00:31:48.660 religions. It's allowing Jesus, at best, a place in a pantheon of gods or wise moral teachers,

00:31:55.820 but without affirming the truth that is that he is the divine Messiah, the redeemer of the human race

00:32:02.560 and the second person of a triune God. This denial is itself the special mark of the Antichrist,

00:32:09.780 according to St. John in his epistles. He writes, and I quote,

00:32:12.980 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, the one who denies the

00:32:19.660 Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father. He that confesses the Son has

00:32:26.320 the Father. That's from 1 John 2, 22 and 23. And in his second epistle, St. John writes,

00:32:35.500 For many seducers are gone out into the world who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the

00:32:40.700 flesh. Such a one is a seducer and an Antichrist, 2 John 1, 7. So any person or state which adopts

00:32:51.180 naturalist principles can be said in St. John's terms to be Antichrist. This is why he talks of

00:32:57.660 many Antichrists, many Antichrists, if you will, who prepare the way or prepare the way over the

00:33:04.860 centuries for the Antichrist. It is very striking, therefore, that this naturalist departure from

00:33:11.400 Christ is precisely what significant Jewish authorities expect to occur under their earthly

00:33:18.240 Moshiach. And indeed, that such a departure is a necessary means of preparing for the coming of

00:33:25.260 their Moshiach. Let's see what they have to say about it. Maimonides, Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, or

00:33:33.640 Rambam, as he's called, is an enormously influential 12th century Jewish rabbi. He states that once the

00:33:41.360 Moshiach has rebuilt the temple, it will become the focus of a worldwide religion. He says that

00:33:47.560 Moshiach, and I quote, will improve the entire world, motivating all the nations to serve God together.

00:33:53.420 And he quotes the prophet Zephaniah saying, all will call upon the name of God and serve him with one

00:33:59.200 purpose. So, serve God together, serve him with one purpose. In this context, from this man, that sounds

00:34:07.460 like a one-world religion, right? Well, so does that mean that we will all be forced to become Jews?

00:34:14.220 Well, actually, it's more complex than that. Maimonides and those following him certainly did

00:34:20.360 not think that the whole world would become Jewish. It's well known that Jewish religion does not actively

00:34:25.760 seek converts. There are several reasons for that, including some esoteric ideas about the Jewish soul

00:34:31.280 and the relative status of Jews and non-Jews. But another reason is that they don't believe that you

00:34:37.160 have to be a member of Judaism to have a portion in the world to come. So, quite different to the idea

00:34:44.700 that you have to be in the church to be saved. We all believe that the old covenant, the Torah,

00:34:50.460 was given by God to Moses, so that the Jewish people could be a light to the nations. These writers,

00:34:58.100 though, think that after the Moshiach restores the full Jewish religion and the temple, he and the Jewish

00:35:05.260 people will together be this light to the nations. By teaching us Gentiles about God, leading us to

00:35:12.820 recognize the God of Israel, recognizing the Moshiach as king and coming to worship God in Jerusalem,

00:35:19.680 but not as Jews. Now, you might be thinking, hasn't this already happened? Haven't a collection of

00:35:28.760 Jewish men and women already brought knowledge of the God of Israel to the whole world already?

00:35:34.620 Don't we already see everything I just said fulfilled? Well, yes, they have brought this

00:35:41.040 knowledge. Yes, we do already see it fulfilled in Christ and his Catholic Church, and it's amazing.

00:35:45.740 But that's not what the Jewish people are expecting. As we know from the Gospels, they expected an

00:35:53.280 earthly Messiah who would liberate them from the Romans, establish an earthly peace, and that any

00:35:59.820 Gentiles wanting to worship the God of Israel would be doing so in accordance with what they will teach

00:36:05.580 them. Nor is this a secret. There's already a name for the system which they will supposedly enlighten us

00:36:13.860 Gentiles with in the Messianic age. It's called the seven Noahide laws, or Noahidism. And we could even

00:36:22.600 call it a Noahide religion. These laws appear in the Talmud, which is the main holy book of the Jewish

00:36:30.540 religion. The Talmud claims that six commandments were given to Adam himself, with the seventh being

00:36:37.580 given to Noah after the flood. And that's why they call them the Noahide laws. And one who follows them

00:36:43.640 is a Noahide. One respected rabbi summarized this by saying that there was no concern for Gentiles to

00:36:51.380 become Jews, just for the observance of the ancient religion of Noah, the only religion incumbent on all

00:36:58.660 people who are not Israelites, end quote. So Maimonides himself seems to refer to these laws as, and I

00:37:06.320 quote, the true faith. Namely, that the true faith of which Judaism and the Noahide religion are each

00:37:13.520 expressions for Jew and Gentile respectively. So here are the Noahide laws. No idolatry or false gods,

00:37:21.180 no cursing God, no murder, no incest or adultery, no theft, established laws and courts of justice,

00:37:29.400 no eating flesh from a living animal. And that's it. That's the Noahide religion. You have to profess

00:37:37.400 belief in one God and obey these six rules. A non-Jew just has to obey these laws, albeit specifically

00:37:45.820 because he believes God gave them and he will merit a place in the world to come. However, he just has

00:37:51.780 to obey them. This is the only true religion of the Gentiles, we're told. And it's what we should

00:37:57.780 be holding now. And it's apparently what we will be holding in the messianic age. It's very simple.

00:38:05.360 In fact, it's so simple that those who are already Noahides and the Jewish people who are involved with

00:38:11.680 such Noahides have noticed in their own words that this religion is just, and I quote,

00:38:17.940 a formless set of vague moral guidelines, end quote, and in need of something to fill again,

00:38:23.980 and I'm quoting, the void and lingering hole left by lack of an active, defined spiritual life.

00:38:31.380 For that reason, because as a movement, it's a relatively modern phenomenon,

00:38:36.780 some rabbis are putting together prayer books and rituals for these Noahides.

00:38:41.180 But all in all, this sounds pretty unsatisfying and artificial.

00:38:47.840 This may be an aspect of what's meant by the Jews being the chosen people. We Catholics understand

00:38:54.240 that Jews have been chosen for the sake of preserving God's revelation, serving as the cradle of Christ,

00:39:00.700 and for bringing his gospel to us Gentiles. But the Noahide system makes it almost seem like they

00:39:08.460 are chosen to be the only ones who will really know God at all, at least in this life.

00:39:15.320 There are other aspects, too, which you can read about in the articles below.

00:39:21.100 Some authorities think these seven laws aren't all. Others think that it is just setting the standard

00:39:28.860 by which other religions can be practiced. Plus, in the abstract, the seven laws appear to be

00:39:35.840 similar to the Ten Commandments, don't they? Yes, sure. But who gets to decide whether another

00:39:42.180 religion is compatible and who gets to administer and interpret these laws? Well, I can tell you one

00:39:48.300 thing. It's not going to fall to Christians themselves, nor is it going to fall to Noahides

00:39:53.820 themselves. It's going to fall on those who are, and I quote, the light of the nations in that paradigm.

00:40:00.060 And you can see that here, where one rabbi says that there are different views on whether

00:40:06.560 Christianity is compatible with Noahide laws, and he advises these non-Jews to speak to their

00:40:12.740 Noahide rabbi. Let's take a look.

00:40:15.620 So as a result, you know, you can tell the non-Jewish friends that there are views that would consider this

00:40:23.260 to be a fulfillment of the Noahide law. There are other views that argue, and therefore speak to your

00:40:28.780 Noahide rabbi about which way, which way to go. But whoever heard of Christians being submitted to

00:40:36.360 a Noahide rabbi in the practice of the Christian religion? And in fact, when the supposedly earthly

00:40:42.620 Moshiach comes, it looks like it will be him who administers and decides on these matters for

00:40:49.280 the whole wide world. Now, if there ever were to be a man acclaimed as the earthly Moshiach,

00:40:56.800 whether he really be the Antichrist or not, the imposition of the Noahide religion would be

00:41:03.260 massively problematic for Christians for two reasons. First of all, while there definitely are

00:41:10.960 some ambiguous or nuanced views, the Noahide laws are widely understood to ban the worship

00:41:17.160 of the triune God. This is because Christians are deemed by many in this paradigm to be idolaters,

00:41:23.480 to engage in idol worship of a false God. Christianity itself is thought to have brought

00:41:30.300 untold problems to the world too. Here's Maimonides again, and note that he says that we do not serve

00:41:39.840 the true God. And I quote, this is Maimonides from the 12th century, very famous rabbi. He says,

00:41:46.140 quote, Christianity caused the Jews to be slain by the sword, their remnants to be scattered and

00:41:53.740 humbled, the Torah to be altered, and the majority of the world to err and serve a God other than the

00:42:00.720 Lord, end quote. Another really significant medieval authority famously claimed that the Trinity is idol

00:42:07.560 worship. The idea that we are idolaters is really very common. And these sorts of books are recommended

00:42:16.500 to Noahides on popular websites. Now, we know that we're not idol worshipers, and some apologists try to

00:42:26.020 prove that in dialogue, and that's an important thing to do for evangelization. But general opinions are not

00:42:32.680 going to be changed by dialogue like that against such strong authorities in the Jewish faith and also

00:42:41.400 the weight of history. Their whole history of for 2,000 years has called Catholics or Christians

00:42:47.920 idolaters. Now, look, Maimonides says that it's a mitzvah, a commandment to destroy false gods in the land

00:42:57.780 of Israel and any conquered land. And one fairly prominent rabbi says that even according to the

00:43:03.800 more liberal position, which allows Gentiles to believe in some form of Christianity, you could say,

00:43:09.740 Jews are obligated to destroy their objects of worship and churches, end quote. So, and again,

00:43:16.240 those are for the lands in Israel and those lands conquered by the Jews. But these men are debating

00:43:23.300 whether and when it's right to destroy Christian churches in the land of Israel, which, by the way,

00:43:29.900 includes Palestine for many people. Now, here's an example of a rabbi explaining what has to be done

00:43:38.940 in and out of Israel. Now, there's a difference in this mitzvah, whether it's in Israel or out of

00:43:44.720 Israel. In Israel, we actually have a mitzvah to seek out the idols, to make sure that every single one

00:43:49.060 is destroyed, out of Israel, we don't have to actively go and seek them out unless we conquer

00:43:54.940 that part. And then we have to destroy the article, the idols in the location that we destroyed.

00:43:59.700 Where do we know the difference between Israel and out of Israel? The Torah says,

00:44:02.480 you just destroy their, their name, eradicate the name of idolatry from that place,

00:44:08.100 from that specific place, from the land of Israel.

00:45:22.440 And what's the punishment for idolatry? Well, it depends. And it's sometimes unclear what the

00:45:31.640 authorities are really saying. They themselves admit that they have to speak obscurely at times

00:45:37.240 to avoid angering Christians. Maimonides says,

00:45:42.660 a Noahide, and I'm quoting, a Noahide is executed for every type of foreign worship which a Jewish

00:45:50.420 court would consider worthy of capital punishment, end quote. He then says that Noahides aren't to be

00:45:57.000 executed for foreign worship which a Jewish court wouldn't deem worthy of death, but he is nonetheless

00:46:04.200 forbidden to engage in it. So, no capital punishment, but it's still wrong, pending whatever other

00:46:10.960 penalty. So, is Christianity a form of idolatry worthy of death? So, let's take a look at what

00:46:17.700 some think we are and we aren't allowed to do. So, if a Gentile worships an idol in the way that

00:46:24.060 it's normally worshipped, whatever the form of that pagan worship is, they have violated their mitzvah.

00:46:28.340 They violated this commandment. If a Jew were to be put to death for that act, then a Gentile would be

00:46:34.400 put to death for the same act. If a Jew would not be put to death for whatever form of worship, as we've

00:46:39.440 learned in details all the laws of pagan worship, then a Gentile is not put to death for that form

00:46:44.480 of worship as well. But it's still forbidden, but he's not put to death. They're not allowed to even

00:46:48.860 put up a monument for a pagan deity. They're not allowed to plant the tree. They would gather around

00:46:53.160 trees under the shade, the Asherah trees, and they cannot create any images, forms,

00:46:59.180 that are for pagan worship.

00:47:02.800 It's really difficult to tell from this whether Christianity would be a form of worship worthy

00:47:07.440 of death. But either way, it seems that it will be forbidden. As I said, there are many who claim

00:47:13.980 that Christians are not idolaters. But there are many who claim that we are. And there's no central

00:47:20.500 authority to decide all of this. But we can see how Christianity is viewed by some by considering

00:47:26.860 the hostile treatment of Christians in the Holy Land. Christians, especially priests, are spat upon

00:47:32.800 and churches and cemeteries. They're vandalized. In 2023, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem indicated

00:47:40.220 that this has increased since Netanyahu's coalition government came into power. This is because

00:47:46.500 these attitudes, these anti-Christian attitudes, also exist among those in power. Certain elected

00:47:56.280 politicians propose legislation to criminalize attempts to tell others about Jesus Christ in

00:48:01.800 Christianity. Check out that. We had that headline at LifeSite because it was already reported all

00:48:06.140 over the world. A fellow by the name of Atamar Ben-Gavir, a key figure in the coalition of Benjamin

00:48:14.840 Netanyahu, has praised activists who called Christianity that cursed religion and Christians

00:48:22.280 blood-sucking vampires. No, I kid you not.

00:48:26.240 But in 2023, that same Ben-Gavir spoke against treating spitting at Christians as a criminal

00:48:34.380 case. He said, not everything justifies an arrest. So he's speaking against the law, the coming

00:48:43.260 down on Jews who would spit at Christian priests and people. And before this politician was in

00:48:50.960 politics, according to the Times of Israel, he justified spitting towards Christians as,

00:48:56.540 and I quote, an ancient Jewish custom. Here's a video of that ancient Jewish custom in practice.

00:52:09.940 it will need to be purified and reimagined in order to take it away from idolatry.

00:52:16.020 One influential 19th century rabbi believed that it was possible, in fact necessary, and even inevitable,

00:52:23.980 that Christianity would be drawn back into union with Judaism.

00:52:28.160 But not through the conversion of the Jews to Christianity, of course.

00:52:32.040 The Christianity that would emerge from this alliance and purification would, he said, be, and I quote,

00:52:38.960 all the more orthodox as it would have strengthened itself by drawing on an orthodoxy older than itself, end quote.

01:00:28.020 and how eerily similar these are to the expectations which some Jewish groups have for the coming of their earthly messiah or Mosheach, as they call him.

01:00:41.020 But just to recap, over the centuries, Catholic theologians, saints and mystics have held that the Antichrist will persecute the Church with a false religion imposed at the expense of the true religion.

01:00:53.720 They say he'll start with a show of benevolence, and they expect his religious system to be one which claims to make men good, naturally good, without Christ, of course, and Christ's grace.

01:01:05.220 There's a term for such a system.

01:01:07.480 It's called naturalism.

01:01:09.120 It's a ruling out or a setting aside of the supernatural order and its divine revelation.

01:01:15.020 In the public sphere, it also appears as a secularization of society and a denial that the state has duties towards God and the true religion.

01:01:24.900 This idea has been condemned by multiple popes.

01:01:28.100 Pope St. Leo XIII called it, and I quote,

01:01:30.680 In practice, it's treating Christianity as one of the many possible religions and allowing our Lord Jesus Christ, at best, to be placed in a pantheon of gods or wise moral teachers, but without affirming the truth that he is Jesus, the divine Messiah, the redeemer of the human race and the second person of the triune God.

01:01:57.420 So, this denial is itself the special mark of Antichrist, according to St. John, in his epistles.

01:02:04.480 And in the last show, we saw that the famous sage, Rabbi Moses ben Maimon, or Maimonides, as he's called, stated very similar things about the earthly Mosheach.

01:02:17.400 He said that the Mosheach would rebuild the Jerusalem temple and bring the whole world into the worship of the true God together.

01:02:25.260 But he didn't say that the whole world would become Jewish.

01:02:30.760 Certainly not.

01:02:31.780 On the contrary, he believed, and he's followed by many in this belief, that the true religion for non-Jews is something called the seven Noahide laws.

01:02:43.580 These laws consist of a prohibition of idolatry and six other pretty basic moral precepts.

01:02:49.600 But the question is, are they compatible with Christianity?

01:02:53.580 There is no clear answer on that.

01:02:56.920 On the one hand, many proponents think that Christianity is a form of idolatry.

01:03:06.980 And on the other hand, some think that it can be tolerated, that Christianity can be tolerated,

01:03:12.860 provided that Christianity is purified of some of its idolatrous features, like the Trinity and the dogma of the Incarnation.

01:03:21.780 Given the animus we've seen toward the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, even that doesn't seem very likely.

01:03:29.440 And anyway, we definitely couldn't accept such a purification, because that would just be apostasy.

01:03:35.260 But now, in this part of the series, we're going to see what Catholic theologians and mystics have expected from the false religion,

01:03:43.700 which the Antichrist will force on the world at the expense of the Catholic faith,

01:03:48.960 and how this false religion is actually already spreading across the world today.

01:03:54.480 The enormously influential Jewish sage, Maimonides, whom we've talked about several times already,

01:04:02.020 thinks that it is actually a commandment to compel observance of the Noahide religion.

01:04:08.860 He writes, and I quote,

01:04:10.400 Moses was commanded by the Almighty to compel all the inhabitants of the world to accept the commandments given to Noah's descendants, end quote.

01:04:19.240 And Maimonides added that, quote,

01:04:22.760 If one does not accept these commands, he should be executed, end quote.

01:04:28.280 First of all, let's be clear.

01:04:29.520 These texts appear in a chapter about armies invading Gentile territory.

01:04:34.960 It's not clear whether he also intends this death sentence to apply as a general rule,

01:04:42.060 whether now or when the Mosheach comes.

01:04:45.180 Many, or possibly most rabbis, have taken a different view to Maimonides

01:04:50.880 on whether there is a positive commandment to spread the Noahide laws to non-Jews.

01:04:56.540 However, there is one extremely influential Jewish group that does indeed follow Maimonides

01:05:03.940 in seeing that this mitzvah, or commandment, be fulfilled.

01:05:09.160 More on them shortly.

01:05:11.400 So first of all, let's look at some saints.

01:05:13.340 According to many Catholic writers, the Antichrist's way is going to be prepared

01:05:18.940 through the spread of naturalism, and it looks like a naturalist religion

01:05:23.140 will be a key feature of his initial persecution of the Church.

01:05:27.980 This dual approach to the Antichrist, the Jewish religion for the Jews

01:05:32.780 and Noahidism for everyone else,

01:05:35.400 even appears in what St. Hildegard von Bingen saw in Revelations from our Lord in the year 1179.

01:05:44.000 These revelations seem to have been approved by Pope Eugene III, by the way,

01:05:49.040 and the similarities are about to get really weird.

01:05:53.640 First, St. Hildegard says that the Antichrist will propose a simple and liberal doctrine

01:05:59.140 which will involve the rejection of baptism and the Gospel.

01:06:03.000 Antichrist will say, according to St. Hildegard, and I quote,

01:06:06.740 Jesus of Nazareth is not the Son of God, only a deceiver who gave himself out as God,

01:06:12.540 and the Church instituted by him is only superstition.

01:06:16.240 End quote.

01:06:17.280 He will say that the true Christ has finally come in his person.

01:06:21.800 He will say, I am the Savior of the world.

01:06:25.300 End quote.

01:06:26.180 He will try to convince the Jews that he is their Mosheach and he will succeed.

01:06:32.660 And then St. Hildegard describes this minimalist naturalist religion in these words, I quote,

01:06:39.560 His doctrine of faith will be taken from the Jewish religion

01:06:43.140 and seemingly will not differ much from the fundamental doctrine of Christianity,

01:06:48.060 for he will teach that there is one God who created the world,

01:06:51.220 who is omniscient and knows the thoughts of man and is just,

01:06:55.400 who rewards the obeyers of his commands and the trespassers he chastises,

01:07:00.540 who will raise all from the dead in due time.

01:07:04.120 End quote.

01:07:05.280 She goes on saying, and I quote again,

01:07:07.840 Religion he will endeavor to make convenient.

01:07:11.980 He will say that you need not fast and embitter your life by renunciation,

01:07:16.660 as the people of former times did when they had no sense of God's goodness.

01:07:21.800 It will suffice to love God.

01:07:24.520 End quote.

01:07:26.060 So, it's a naturalist religion which denies Christ and his revelation,

01:07:31.120 or at least treats him as a mere man,

01:07:33.040 while also being similar to Christianity in superficial, minimalist ways.

01:07:37.840 Could we think of a better definition of the Noahide religion?

01:07:43.500 Remember that Jewish writer who called Noahidism a form or a set of vague moral guidelines?

01:07:50.820 But also, could we think of a better definition of naturalism advanced by Freemasonry and the Enlightenment?

01:07:57.180 This is the same vision in Monsignor Robert Q. Benson's classic novel,

01:08:02.460 The Lord of the World, which depicts the Antichrist figure,

01:08:05.800 beginning with a hybrid religion of moralism, humanism, naturalism, and paganism.

01:08:12.380 Similar ideas were advanced by the theologians and writers,

01:08:16.020 whom you can read about in the links below.

01:08:18.720 The spread of this naturalism is also key for the preparation of both Antichrist and Mosheach.

01:08:25.360 As we've seen, the Antichrist spirit of naturalism has advanced incredibly over recent centuries.

01:08:32.680 Pope St. Pius X said in his first encyclical in 1903 that this demonstrated

01:08:38.580 that the preparation for Antichrist was well underway.

01:08:42.320 He said that because of this Antichristian naturalism, and I quote,

01:08:47.580 This is the distinguishing mark of Antichrist.

01:08:50.500 Man with infinite temerity is put himself in the place of God,

01:08:55.500 raising himself above all that is called God.

01:08:59.540 He has condemned God's majesty and, as it were, made of the universe a temple

01:09:04.920 wherein he himself is to be adored.

01:09:08.660 That is, man himself is to be adored.

01:09:10.740 He sits in the temple of God, showing himself as if he were God, end quote.

01:09:15.560 So, if you caught that, this saintly pope compared the Antichrist sitting in the temple with naturalism

01:09:22.300 and its ultimate destination, the cult of man, the worship of man himself.

01:09:27.840 And it's for this reason the pope said in the same encyclical, and I quote,

01:09:33.020 There may be already in the world the son of perdition of whom the apostle speaks, end quote.

01:09:39.320 The idea that naturalism will be a forerunner to the Antichrist

01:09:43.980 and will create the necessary conditions for his coming is not uncommon.

01:09:49.060 Father Michael Muller, writing in the 19th century, said that, quote,

01:09:54.040 Antichrist had the Freemasons as his forerunners to prepare the hearts of his followers, end quote.

01:10:00.440 And that's to prepare the hearts of his followers with a variety of vices,

01:10:05.680 including irreligion and unbelief, the essence of naturalism.

01:10:10.780 Other writers say similar things, marking the convergence of naturalism, Freemasonry,

01:10:17.340 modernism, pantheism, and various other isms of our day.

01:10:20.680 One said, and I quote,

01:10:22.180 A prelude to, and that's to the final struggle between Christ and Antichrist,

01:10:26.420 may be seen in the eras of modernism, which has been rightly designated a synthesis of all heresies.

01:10:34.620 So there are several 19th century churchmen, such as the famous English Cardinal Manning,

01:10:39.900 who talked about this in terms of the return of paganism.

01:10:45.220 We've seen aspects of full-on paganism already from Pope Francis with the Pachamama and the Western

01:10:51.020 Grandmother. Look that up on LifeSite if you don't know what I'm talking about.

01:10:54.740 But Cardinal Manning said that this paganism will also appear in the more refined form of the

01:11:03.780 ancient Roman and Greek societies in the attempt to build the natural society of men without God

01:11:09.740 and the removing belief in the incarnation from the social order of a nation and relegating it to

01:11:17.880 the private sphere. Even in his day, many writers were pointing to the link

01:11:24.320 of the removal of Christianity from public life in the schools, in the army, in the courts,

01:11:30.140 parliaments, and so on. It's obviously much worse today. The denial, implicit or explicit,

01:11:38.060 of the state's duty to acknowledge the triune God is another outgrowth of that special mark of the

01:11:44.700 Antichrist. And several such writers suggested that this and wider spread of naturalism is what's

01:11:52.080 paving the way for the coming of the Antichrist. Now, we've seen enough to recognize that all these

01:11:58.620 different lines—freemasonry, naturalism, modernism, the Noahide laws, and many other

01:12:03.640 Antichristian ideologies—are coming together in one place. And that, as far as we're concerned,

01:12:10.400 is the place of Antichrist. And as far as some others are concerned, it's also the place of the

01:12:18.340 Mosheach. Now, more than all of that, both groups—that is, Catholic scholars and saints, and as some of the

01:12:28.660 Jewish sects—both groups expect them ultimately to be a synthesis. And more than that, both groups expect

01:12:37.480 them ultimately to be synthesized into one concrete religious system imposed at the expense of

01:12:43.860 Christianity. I also mentioned that a really significant international Jewish organization

01:12:50.100 thinks that it is a mitzvah, a commandment, to spread the Noahide laws across the world.

01:12:57.000 Not only that, this group also believes that in spreading this naturalist religion for Gentiles,

01:13:03.580 they are directly preparing the ground for the coming of their earthly Mosheach.

01:13:09.600 This group is called Chabad Lubavitch. They are the Hasidic group based in New York and one of the

01:13:16.960 biggest and most influential Jewish outreach groups in the world. Their late leader, who died in 1994,

01:13:24.800 was Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known by many as the Rebbe or the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Schneerson is

01:13:36.260 at the heart of this group in its modern incarnation. In fact, a sizable number of Chabad Lubavitcher

01:13:44.020 adherents actually think that Schneerson himself was the Mosheach, that's their Messiah, and is either in

01:13:50.240 hiding or will come back from the dead when they have made the conditions right. There are stickers

01:13:56.840 and billboards in Crown Heights, New York to that effect, by the way. It will take a while to describe

01:14:03.400 Schneerson's influence, and we'll save that for a really important report we have coming from Dr.

01:14:09.680 Micah Hickson. This is just a preview of some of her findings. It's Rabbi Schneerson himself and his

01:14:17.940 personal magnetism that have transformed this Hasidic sect into the concerning powerhouse that it is

01:14:25.940 today. Even if you think you haven't heard of them before, you definitely have. Back in January, a riot

01:14:33.760 broke out at their headquarters in Crown Heights, New York, over a secret tunnel that was found beneath

01:14:39.820 their headquarters. This was reported as taking place at a New York City synagogue, but that's like

01:14:47.920 calling the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception a Washington, D.C. chapel.

01:14:54.600 It is the Chabad Lubavitch headquarters, and that's kind of a big deal, but of course it wasn't

01:15:00.280 mentioned that way. You will also have seen Chabad Lubavitcher rabbis and representatives around world

01:15:08.080 leaders and celebrities over many years. It also has a significant influence in the Israeli government

01:15:17.120 and politics today, and this is really important given the ongoing conflict in the Holy Land.

01:15:25.000 Chabad habitually have national leaders light their Hanukkah memorials, and they're normally the ones

01:15:32.120 installing the big ones in public. They have links with the World Economic Forum and even George Soros,

01:15:38.740 as well as political figures across the world. They're well connected in groups around Temple

01:15:44.540 Mount in Jerusalem, and we've already seen the significance of that. And it's not completely

01:15:49.840 clear whether they think, like some groups do, that they need to build the temple before the

01:15:54.720 Mosheach can come, but this is definitely one of their most cherished hopes, as Dr. Hickson's report

01:16:01.280 is going to show. But they are perhaps most known among Jewish people for their street evangelization

01:16:09.240 to Jews, trying to affirm Jewish identity by handing out Shabbat candles to Jewish women

01:16:14.380 and encouraging Jewish men to put on Teflin for prayer. Here's an example.

01:17:19.580 commended for this by American presidents and by Congress. They're doing this explicitly, by the

01:17:26.780 way, as a means of hastening the coming of the Moshiach. And that's no secret at all. Here's a video of

01:18:16.280 the Hebrew. So Ben Noyach means sons of Noah. So now let's carry on and see some of the strategies

01:18:31.400 because, and a fruit of, Chabad's campaigning. This idea to bring about a spiritual awakening

01:18:38.860 without Christ, which they think is disposing us to the Noahide laws and for the coming of the

01:18:54.020 moment where we can either reflect in a naturally good way or each can pray to God in a way that

01:19:01.180 renders Christ a private God amongst others. It's naturalism. So I've talked about Maimonides a lot

01:19:09.080 in this video. Not all Jews and Jewish groups follow him, but Chabad Lubavitch are one of the foremost

01:19:16.940 promoters of this authority in the world today. They follow many of Maimonides' opinions and encourage

01:19:25.940 their supporters and members to read and study three chapters of his work each day. They have some of

01:19:33.040 their own ideas too, of course, derived in part from Schneerson as well as from their previous leaders

01:19:39.360 and other monuments of Jewish theology, law and mysticism.

01:21:04.900 is not what will take us to heaven, of course, as Catholic teaching affirms. But the Jews see this

01:21:34.880 only has an animal soul tending toward what is evil. This group holds similar views about the differences

01:21:42.960 between Jewish and non-Jewish bodies. Now, according to Schneerson and others of the same view,

01:21:50.640 if someone is born a Jew, he is a Jew for life. This is because he has a special Jewish soul which

01:21:58.140 he cannot lose even if he converts to Christianity. Such a conversion, says Schneerson, is, and I quote,

01:22:06.600 the biggest sin which a Jew could make, and a form of sickness. But let's hear what he said to Daniel

01:22:15.500 Lifshitz, a Jewish-born Catholic missionary who tried to share the gospel with him.

01:22:21.280 If someone was born a Jew, he is a Jew for all his life. And he cannot change it. It can make all
