00:00:00.000 Do you ever wish you had a high-ranking church official, maybe even a cardinal, maybe a Vatican
00:00:06.600 cardinal, explain to you exactly what the heck is going on in the church today? Because things are
00:00:11.940 nuts. We've got the Pope appointing the best-known heretic in all of the United States, among the
00:00:19.880 bishops, that is, to be a cardinal. When in this same area, in fact, this bishop, and of course,
00:00:26.960 I'm speaking of Bishop McElroy in San Diego, but this bishop was the suffragan, which means a sort
00:00:32.980 of like a lower bishop than the major archbishop in the area, which is, of course, Gomez in Los
00:00:40.440 Angeles. But Gomez is not made a cardinal, but San Diego's McElroy is. Very confusing times. Also,
00:00:49.600 Father James Martin promoting homosexuality, transgender, everything, all over the place,
00:00:54.220 being given all sorts of accolades by the Pope. The Pope answers his dubia. He won't answer the
00:01:00.580 dubia of the cardinals. This is nuts. You know, and then there's rumors about Pope Francis going to
00:01:07.700 resign. Is he dying? Why is he holding a consistory in August when it's super hot? We've got a Vatican
00:01:14.700 cardinal here to answer all of that. Stay tuned to The John Henry Weston Show.

00:02:27.740 In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
00:02:31.360 If I could start, we are right now experiencing a lot of consternation. There's a bunch of cardinals
00:02:39.840 in Rome right now. Megyn Kelly was just on television saying something's going on. There's a lot of rumor
00:02:46.280 about Pope Francis may retire, Pope Francis may be dying. Can you tell us anything about what's going
00:02:53.600 on in Rome right now? Yeah, I don't exactly know what is happening, but nobody knows what is happening.
00:03:04.180 All is in God's hand. The day will come, and everyone has to die, and also the Pope is a human
00:03:13.140 being, the man like us, and is a pilgrim on this earth. And we have to pray for him, because he is
00:03:24.260 a successor of St. Peter. St. Peter, the first Pope and shepherd of the Universal Church, and also be a
00:03:35.060 a human being with all his lights and shadows, as every body of us. And we have to ask the pardon of God,
00:03:46.900 and looking for his grace. And I don't hope personally not that he will retire, because Pope Benedict did
00:04:00.580 retire. And this was a great shockwave for the church, because the Pope is a bishop, the bishop of Rome.
00:04:10.180 But at the same time, he has a principle and the fundamental, permanent fundament of the unity of the
00:04:17.380 whole church in the revealed faith, and in the communio of all the bishops of all the local churches.
00:04:25.940 And therefore, the other thing, as a retirement of the bishop, because this has some repercussions,
00:04:35.700 repercussions for all the church, and the Pope Benedict is still alive. And it will be a big problem to have
00:04:46.580 two popes. And it is not good for the church. But everybody has its own meaning. But me, as a theologian,
00:05:00.820 I am fundamentally against the resignation of the popes. Only in extreme cases, we can understand it. But in
00:05:15.700 normal situations, we must always accept that the Pope is a human, and become older. Everybody of us
00:05:26.500 become older. But God loves everybody. If he's a baby, or if you are 95 or 100 years old, with all the
00:05:35.940 problems of becoming elder. But we have to give witness also in our sufferings, in our becoming
00:05:44.980 old and our old aged, if we are, in every case, God is with us. And the government of the universal church
00:05:56.740 is another understanding as government of a political big state, like the United States, or the world power
00:06:08.420 here is more important. The testimony you are giving for Jesus Christ, the crucified, and the risen Lord,
00:06:17.540 and the hope we have for us all after this earthen life.
00:06:25.300 One of the things that is fueling this speculation is that the consistory is being held in August,
00:06:37.620 when normally it's not extremely hot in Rome. Normally, the Pope would go off to Castel Gandolfo.
00:06:43.940 It's not happening. There's a consistory now happening in Rome. Do you know, in August, which is
00:06:51.780 the worst time? Have you ever seen that before? What's your thoughts on why that's happening now?
00:06:58.740 I think it's very strange, because it's the hottest time in Rome. It could become 40 degrees or more.
00:07:08.740 And if you are all together in this relatively small roof, 200 persons, it will be not the hell,
00:07:16.580 but the purgatory for all. It could be that the Holy Father wants to prepare us for purgatory,
00:07:24.500 because we are all sinners. It's a purgatory that could be. And it could be that he is
00:07:35.860 looking if we are well prepared, not only to be close to him in good times, but also when it becomes
00:07:49.140 hot in the metaphorical sense. And I, and we will do the best I will do,
00:07:56.820 to give my best to help him and to the Holy, our Holy Mother, the Catholic Church.
00:08:06.020 But it's a little bit strange. It's true. That is exactly the August, not why yet. Now,
00:08:13.140 in this, this, this, this moment, this moment, um, and why to wait? First, with the announcement of,
00:08:20.740 of the, of the, of the, um, um, consistory and now to wait with the realization three months is very strange.
00:08:32.740 Mm-hmm. One of the, uh, bishops being elevated to Cardinal is in the United States, extremely
00:08:42.100 controversial because he has taken stances on life, on family, particularly, particularly on homosexuality
00:08:52.420 that are at odds with the church's teaching on homosexuality. The most famous, um, of those, um,
00:09:02.340 Bishop McElroy, he's argued for all sorts of things, very particularly on the life issue. He was
00:09:09.300 adamantly against denying Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians. Um, in fact, he argued at
00:09:17.940 the bishops conference against any kind of superiority of abortion as a matter for choice in elections. He
00:09:26.660 was talking about how poverty should be at the same level. And so he's been a very controversial figure
00:09:34.340 in the church in the United States. And yet he was elevated to the College of Cardinals,
00:09:40.100 despite the fact also that he is a suffrican bishop and that the current bishop of Los Angeles,
00:09:48.340 who's the metropolitan there, is himself still an archbishop, but not elevated to the College of
00:09:54.660 Cardinals. Uh, Archbishop Gomez remains Archbishop Gomez and not Cardinal Gomez. Do you have any comment on that?
00:10:01.540 Not only, not only in the United States, but everywhere in the world, nobody can understand
00:10:09.860 this, uh, appointment because, uh, it's not only an election of some bishops, uh, very on the periphery
00:10:21.060 outside, uh, but can justify it with the internationalization of the College of Cardinals,
00:10:28.420 but in the United States, uh, biggest university of the world of the United States, uh, is, uh, Los Angeles
00:10:38.980 and they have a very, very good, uh, bishop. And, um, this is a fingertip, I think, uh, for a certain
00:10:49.060 understanding, I think a wrong understanding of the Catholic Church in America. The categories, uh,
00:10:56.660 uh, in which, uh, the Church in some countries is interpreted is, according to my opinion,
00:11:04.660 absolutely wrong. The Church is not divided in fractions in a liberal wing and a conservative
00:11:13.300 wing. Uh, the difference is for all Catholics, and especially for the bishops, to be faithful to the
00:11:22.500 word of God and the doctrine of the Holy Church. We are not bishops in our own name with our political
00:11:31.940 understanding and preferences. I cannot say I am on the side of Biden or of Trump, and therefore,
00:11:39.460 I will change the Catholic faith according to my political options. But the opposite is true,
00:11:48.980 no? We have, as, uh, Christians, we have to give some orientation for the politicians, uh, and especially
00:11:58.980 if they are, uh, naming themselves Catholics, they must act in the Catholic name, not, uh, as a pressure
00:12:07.300 group for the Catholicism. We don't need pressure groups or, or help of politicians, uh, for the Church,
00:12:15.780 but for the natural right and the natural basis, um, moral. And the first right of everybody is the
00:12:25.780 right to life, for, for life. So, to live there. This is the first gift God gave us. And if a bishop
00:12:35.700 is saying, the same level is our struggle against poverty, uh, like, not, not so much against abortion,
00:12:45.780 that is the wrong, absolute wrong approach to the question. It's a political approach, but not a
00:12:53.620 theological and moral approach to the questions. Um, we say the Church is the advocate for everybody,
00:13:05.300 also for the non-Christians, uh, because we believe that everybody is a creature of God,
00:13:12.980 and therefore the right to life is an absolute basic fundamental right. And we see there is a war
00:13:24.100 the going on, um, the war against the life which is coming from God. The beginning
00:13:32.340 of the life we are now killing the coming generation, the children in the modern womb, and also, um,
00:13:47.780 our grandparents with euthanasia and destroying the basis of, uh, all the consequences, uh, of the
00:13:59.700 generations, which is the matrimony of man and woman of one-one and his own, uh, woman, and not, uh,
00:14:11.220 it is several, uh, so-called, uh, diverse forms of sexuality. The sexuality is only for man and woman in
00:14:21.060 the matrimony who has read the first page of the Bible and then the authentic interpretation of the
00:14:32.180 work of God by the Son, Jesus Christ. He gave in Matthew 39 about, uh, what is matrimony. He gives the
00:14:43.460 definition of matrimony. The man will, um, left behind father and mother and will be linked and together
00:14:54.740 with his wife and they will become one flesh, one unity of thinking, of body, of sexuality. And this is the
00:15:04.420 source of the family, uh, the children and father and father coming from their
00:15:14.100 fathers and mothers. And there we are, uh, the, the great, uh, line of the generations,
00:15:22.900 of the beginning of the creation until to the end of the world. And God has gave, uh, to us human
00:15:34.100 beings this great responsibility to become in the matrimony as father and mother, the mediators of
00:15:42.740 the natural life. And in our Christian thinking, um, Catholic father and mother, Christian father and
00:15:50.820 mother and father are the first representatives of Jesus Christ, no? According to our common priesthood,
00:15:59.700 father and mother has a priestly role in, in two words, their own children.
00:16:10.340 And that is absolutely clear that, uh, every priest, cardinal, and the pope, and every bishop must be
00:16:20.820 absolutely faithful to the revealed faith and to the natural law which is given to us without
00:16:32.100 making his, uh, personal, uh, politics, uh, and
00:16:37.380 a good bishop is a shepherd and not, uh, a politician of, uh, the second class.
00:16:53.460 One of the, that actually brings us to, uh, my last question. I thank you so much for your time.
00:16:59.540 We have probably been beset by something going on in the church almost more than anything else.
00:17:08.660 In Father, uh, James Martin, a Jesuit, we have a priest who is world famous for the promotion of
00:17:19.140 homosexuality, for a change in the church to accept homosexuality. He was looked down upon by certain
00:17:26.900 faithful bishops in the United States who looked at him and were saying, you can't do this, you can't
00:17:33.060 try to change the teaching of the church. Nevertheless, Pope Francis first invited him to
00:17:40.260 speak at the world meeting of families, then invited him to become a member of the Pontifical
00:17:44.900 Council for Social Communications, then met with him personally in an audience which
00:17:50.020 Father Fritz, uh, excuse me, Father, um, Martin used to promote his
00:17:58.020 homosexual pushing, if you will. He then also, this is Pope Francis also,
00:18:03.700 answered various dubia or questions that, uh, Father Martin posed on behalf of an LGBT group that
00:18:12.740 he himself founded, and the Pope answered those questions. At the same time, Pope Francis has not
00:18:20.980 met with Cardinal Zen when he came to visit on behalf of Chinese Catholics suffering under the
00:18:26.180 heel of communism, and also would not answer Cardinal Burke and the other dubia cardinals their questions.
00:18:35.220 Catholics around the world are very confused, and we're wondering what we should do.
00:18:43.620 Could you help us to understand and give us a way forward?
00:18:49.940 Emma is a Catholic theologian, Bishop and Cardinal, Roman Cardinal, absolutely on the side of the Pope,
00:18:57.460 but in the institution of papacy, but that doesn't mean that I have to justify all what is happening,
00:19:07.140 because also in the past, some great theologians, Saint Augustine, criticized some actions of words of
00:19:18.420 the Popes of the Popes of the Popes of the Popes of the Popes of their time, and other some cases,
00:19:22.580 you know, my great predecessor as a prefect of the Congregation of the Faith without their name,
00:19:31.700 Cardinal Robert Bellarmine, he criticized also some ideas of the Pope, and
00:19:41.060 and also Melchior Cano, the absolute great Catholic theologian, he said it's not the adulation of the Pope
00:19:52.340 which makes the papacy great in the Church, but it is absolutely clear and nobody can change the doctrine
00:20:02.980 of our Catholic faith that homosexual behavior is a grave sin, but all form of sexuality outside of the
00:20:15.860 legitimate matrimony is a great sin, a mortal sin, and Father Martin cannot change it with all his
00:20:26.820 political actions, and his networking, and all his propaganda he is making, what he is doing,
00:20:38.740 that is a heresy, absolutely a heresy, and nobody can justify it, and he cannot excuse himself only with
00:20:50.500 the doing of a pastoral work for these persons, with a sexual self-attraction,
00:20:59.940 nobody is more close to these people as Jesus Christ who gave his life for every body,
00:21:07.940 but this was not a justification of the sin, but a justification of the sinners, and he gave us a
00:21:14.420 grace to convert us, and nobody can say I have a tendency to the poly-marriage, or to do I love not only one
00:21:27.620 one woman, but I love five, that is not a justification for this, this is the abbreviation of the true sense
00:21:40.100 of the matrimony, which is the love between men and women, and therefore there is no chance,
00:21:50.980 and they can do what they want, but what is wrong is wrong, and what is right is right, and they cannot
00:21:59.620 make us quiet, and with all their propaganda machine, with their deformations, they are making
00:22:07.300 against us, I heard this Father Martin, who called the bat of the Cardinal Muller, because I am not in his
00:22:15.780 line, but what he is doing is absolutely wrong, and it is misleading the people, and he is bringing in
00:22:25.140 danger the salvation of the people, with his wrong ideas, and his wrong actions, and we cannot introduce
00:22:38.740 this wrong ideas, and this misleading of the people only according to the, to this ideology of LGBT
00:22:52.020 propaganda, and the other thing, we are the Catholic Church, and Jesus Christ, the head of the Church,
00:23:01.060 is a good shepherd of everybody, and I think this ideology is only abusing these people with their
00:23:12.100 personal stories they have, and it's better to show the sinner the good way of conversion, not only ecological
00:23:25.300 conversion is not needed, but a moral conversion is needed of every body, and also I cannot understand
00:23:36.020 why Cardinal Tsen was not worthy to receive an audience, because he is a great testimony of the
00:23:47.380 Catholic faith, and especially in Hong Kong, where he is fighting for the basic human rights, and we cannot
00:23:58.820 sacrifice him only for some agreements with this dictatorial regime in China, and we cannot say China,
00:24:12.980 China, China that is a country of the Chinese people, everybody of them is created according to the image of God,
00:24:23.860 and we will never accept this interpretation, or they have another tradition, and they don't understand our
00:24:32.900 our occidental understanding of human rights, how the human rights are universal, and everybody is a person
00:24:44.180 before God, and we are accepting all these Chinese people as our brothers and sisters of the same God and creator,
00:24:58.260 and we hope that they will become our brothers and sisters in the supernatural sense in Jesus Christ,
00:25:05.860 there we are preaching to everybody the gospel, and that is my absolute meaning and understanding,
00:25:18.100 and I will say it very openly, without a diplomatic to and fro, what is wrong is wrong, and what is right is right, and
00:25:31.220 I am not a Jesuit, I have not to say, if the Magistery is saying the black page is white, that is white, no, no,
00:25:44.740 white is white, and I am faithful to my eyes, and especially I am faithful to my ears, when we are hearing the word of God,
00:25:56.740 and the word of God is a sword, it's going to both sides, and it's separating the good and the bad,
00:26:07.940 and good is to go the way of Jesus Christ, and nobody has authority to change or to falsify the revealed
00:26:23.540 Catholic faith according to the word of God and the doctrine of the church, and all these people are
00:26:36.020 always speaking about the Second Vatican Council, they have to look what Gaudium et Spes is saying to the
00:26:44.740 matrimony in the chapter and the articles 2050 and following, and they can read what is the true doctrine of the
00:26:59.220 Catholic Church about the matrimony. Beautiful. Eminence, I want to thank you for your time.
00:27:09.620 I am sure many, many Catholics will be very grateful to hear your clarity, and I'm sure they'll be praying
00:27:17.780 for you. I would ask you now to impart your blessing on all the viewers of the John Henry Weston Show.
00:27:27.300 We have received the love of God, and we all are sons and daughters of God in Jesus Christ,
00:27:34.820 his eternal Son in the Holy Spirit, and therefore we are asking for his blessing. May almighty God bless you,
00:27:43.140 the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Amen.
00:27:51.540 Thank you so very much, Eminence. God bless you, and God bless all of you. We'll see you next time.
