00:01:32.280 enter into a conversation that's very controversial um when you put across to me earlier that um

00:01:39.320 you'd be open to speaking on true femininity well that's uh that's one of those topics that's

00:01:44.900 It's kind of foreboding. In a lot of places, even from our pulpit, when people talk about

00:01:51.260 even abortion or the LGBT thing, it's even more rare to hear about talk of true femininity.

00:02:01.120 It's one of the great taboos. So much so that when today they ask for a definition of what a

00:02:07.420 woman is, nobody's willing to venture a guess or statement as to what that might be. So we'd love

00:02:14.000 to hear you out on your views on true femininity. Well, to begin it, I remember as a cadet at the

00:02:21.360 Air Force Academy in 1989, sitting in the barbershop, getting ready to get my hair nicely

00:02:28.200 in rags. And I looked over and there was a magazine, Time magazine, and it said on the cover,

00:02:35.860 it's proven men and women are different i just remember thinking wow i wonder what went into

00:02:47.380 that study well for my study i grew up with three brothers and i knew with just you know my mom's

00:02:54.280 femininity in an incredible example of you know true femininity she did a wonderful job raising

00:03:01.740 and four boys, that she was different. I have two daughters, and my wife, me, clearly,

00:03:10.580 I see the differences. But it is absurd where we've come, and praise God that there's a lot

00:03:19.400 of people now gaining confidence, confide, with faith, to realize that we're all in Christ for

00:03:27.080 pro-life, and in that is our true identity. And we need to celebrate, acknowledge, and just be

00:04:52.200 but particularly today? How do we come back to the truth?

00:04:56.680 Well, it starts with the lie. The lie is that you can do anything and everything that you want to

00:05:02.600 do. It's just, I'm a scientist. My PhD is in nano analytical chemistry. I taught biochemistry

00:05:09.680 at the United States Air Force Academy.

00:05:12.780 It's not true.

00:05:13.980 You can't have it all.

00:05:16.640 You can't do everything.

00:05:19.200 Life is about, one, your identity and your true nature and your mission.

00:05:25.300 I mean, we won't talk about biology, but how about a little theology?

00:05:28.400 I mean, certainly in our theology, we can see that God has a very intentional purpose

00:05:37.420 I mean, the book of Jeremiah, you know, you think about the life runner's jersey with the Trinity on the front, you know, Jeremiah 1.5, this little baby onesie and the back also Jeremiah 1.5.

00:05:48.580 But in that book of Jeremiah, do you remember God was talking to a young teenage boy, Jeremiah?

00:05:56.640 And you remember the big line from Jeremiah 1.5 was, Jeremiah, like basically, if you read the whole chapter, he was arguing with God.

00:06:06.000 He was like, Jeremiah, like, stop arguing with me.

00:06:09.320 I knew you even before you were in your mother's womb.

00:06:13.880 So there's that's just God's fingerprints that there is purpose and mission for all of us.

00:06:20.480 And and we've got to I mean, this talk about a swear word in our culture, be obedient to our calling, be obedient to each mission for all, you know, wherever we're at seven billion plus people on the planet.

00:06:37.920 You know, God's math, this is not a problem.

00:06:39.920 When we think about what we can do with numbers from number of cells and biology to everything

00:06:46.300 from engineering with building a road to the number of particulates, I mean, God is no

00:06:51.720 problem with 7 billion missions and purposes and blessing them and anointing them.

00:06:59.220 I mean, come on, God doesn't have a problem with problems.

00:07:01.920 We limit God.

00:07:02.720 So there's just some kind of warm-up thoughts when people are listening.

00:07:07.120 Why do we have to say this krigma, the basic proclamation of the gospel, or in this case,

00:07:12.640 the basic proclamation of God as creator in our identity?

00:07:17.660 Why do we need to do this?

00:07:18.740 Because from an apologetic standpoint, from an argument standpoint, you've got to start

00:07:23.900 with definitions.

00:07:25.060 You've got to start with proofs.

00:07:26.320 You've got to start with what we know.

00:07:28.100 And there's a lot of what we know from a theology and biology standpoint.

00:07:32.260 And John Henry, when you have a conversation with real definitions and what we really know, guess what?

00:07:39.620 This absurdity that's going on culturally with muddying identity and making people think that they can choose their identity and be the sex that they want to be.

00:08:09.860 you now because you used a word that's probably the focal point of the whole entire debate it

00:08:15.880 stems back over 100 years but actually even back to the beginning of the creation of the world

00:08:22.180 because that very o word that you used is the very one satan hated because he said originally

00:08:30.360 I will not serve. And that was his great cry. I will not obey. I will not serve God.

00:08:37.140 And it's interesting because that then becomes the pivotal argument, the pivotal point in the

00:08:43.700 turning of man against woman in the modern day. Because the scripture is super clear about the

00:08:51.220 order in the family. And it's challenging. It's challenging as anything can be nowadays.

00:08:57.320 is everybody, every person is supposed to be absolutely obedient to our Lord. There's no

00:09:04.180 question there. But then God puts into the world a hierarchy. And we see it very easily in the

00:09:12.720 smallest unit of society, and that's in the family, where wife is called to be obedient to serve her

00:09:19.740 husband. And the children are called to be obedient to their parents. And according to the scriptures,

00:09:25.600 this is the case. It's not making it up. That's what it actually says in the Holy Bible that

00:09:32.560 we're supposed to hear is the Word of God. It's a lot. However, some reject this today.

00:09:41.040 In fact, some can't even hear the Word because it basically, it's like it doesn't exist.

00:09:47.560 When you're talking about a job, what your job is, you have to listen to, you have to adhere to

00:09:55.440 what your boss says, there's not any question of the same thing. In fact, it's even more the case

00:10:02.240 for those in your former profession, in the military, in the Air Force, in the Army. So

00:10:08.600 there, you're a soldier. There's no question of obedience to your commanding officer.

00:10:15.620 So I'm wondering, where is that disconnect today from where we see it in the workplace,

00:10:21.260 We see it in the military, in the army.

00:10:24.180 But how is it that the God-ordained, scripture-driven order in the family, that hierarchy he established

00:10:31.660 there is so rejected?

00:10:34.100 For the culture to digest it, you need to start with the end.

00:10:40.220 You need to start with the end.

00:10:41.300 It goes like this with the O word, the obedience word, which has become such a swear word culturally.

00:10:47.020 The end looks like this.

00:10:48.660 the end do you desire to be happy yes i do oh great would you like to be happy forever oh great

00:10:58.960 well guess what in obedience when you have the freedom to do what you ought to do so there's

00:11:06.360 god's gift of freedom and in that freedom we choose god no god life or death good or evil

00:11:14.480 But in that choice, when you choose God, when you choose life, when you choose good, when you're obedient to those higher things, those callings that you know are the right answer, the better answer, ultimately, then guess what?

00:11:34.100 That alignment, that order alignment also comes to those gifts of the Spirit.

00:11:38.780 Peace, joy, enjoyment, fulfillment, purpose, mission, all these beautiful things that

00:11:50.180 someone's life is amplified when it's in the will of God.

00:11:55.880 And so it's worth it.

00:11:57.900 Give me one example from your life where you had to obey, and while it was uncomfortable

00:12:04.260 and painful, it ended up in joy, because you followed the will of the Lord.

00:12:09.800 Because I think that's one of the missing points as you're saying this conceptually.

00:12:15.320 We can see it.

00:12:16.680 And I'm supposed to obey God, and it will enrich my life.

00:12:20.260 And he's set up the world in his order.

00:12:23.660 And I might not understand it.

00:12:26.000 I might not like it, but I'm going to do it because I love Him. And I know it's good for me

00:12:30.720 in some theoretical sense. But do you have an example from your own life where it's a real

00:12:37.480 thing experientially as well? Do you follow this prompting of the Holy Spirit and step forward

00:12:46.520 in faith? And do you share something very odd, weird, an encounter with a dead saint by the name

00:12:57.000 of Padre Pio, whose that encounter is, you know, 20-year anniversary is the 19th of August of this

00:13:04.600 year. And so, yeah, how about it? So I had a decision to make. Do I share that very odd

00:13:16.020 encounter with a dead saint in a secular world? Those encounters, I was still a commander in the

00:13:25.700 Air Force. I was a professor at the Air Force Academy. How do you communicate that when that

00:13:32.720 gets out. So there was an obedience in that. There was an obedience to this, you know, if it's odd,

00:13:40.020 it's God. Oh, this is going to be kind of weird. But his ways are above our ways. Talking about

00:13:46.940 faith sometimes, especially today, can be couched as odd or weird. And we need to fight for what it

00:13:55.520 really is. And it's normal. It may be uncommon and getting less common culturally, but it's

00:14:01.940 actually normal to worship. It's normal to acknowledge the creator of everything, the

00:14:11.600 giver of all things, the giver of life. That's actually normal and good. And so to make that

00:14:19.080 normal again, to make it common, sorry, again, we need to talk about it. And so there was an

00:14:25.420 obedience and deep breath talking to your neighbors about such things like conversations

00:14:31.180 with dead saints, or praying the rosary, you know, St. Padre Pio, bring me my weapon,

00:14:37.540 or wearing a shirt out your front door that says, remember the unborn on the back and

00:14:43.560 the trendy on the front.

00:14:45.220 That's not common, but it certainly is normal from a human expression to the creator of

00:14:55.720 the universe, the giver of life, to worship God, to give praise and gratitude.

00:15:01.180 So there's an example. We know how that went by going deep breath.

00:15:05.760 Ooh, I'm going to be obedient. This prompting what started out with one life runner.

00:16:10.100 be all that well accepted, or that you're pro-God, you're Christian in an area that's not going to

00:16:15.360 be in favor of that, especially not of that proclamation of the Christian gospel. Tell us a

00:16:21.120 little bit more about the relay coming up. What are the dates again? The dates are September 4th.

00:16:28.520 I'll be at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Francisco with Father Ilo and the academy there,

00:16:38.160 kindergarten through high school. And we're going to kick off the relay, you know, about 100 of us

00:16:45.420 students, and Father Ilo, myself, and a name that some people might also recognize, Eva

00:16:52.860 Montaigne, the co-founder of the Walk for Life West Coast San Francisco, which she invited

00:17:00.000 to be the keynote speaker this coming January.

00:17:08.600 So this is a nice warm-up for that in San Francisco.

00:17:11.320 And we're going to walk 2.6 miles from Star of the Sea Catholic Church to San Francisco Planned Parenthood with the youth, with an eight-foot Remember the Unborn banner, signs, cheering, joy, piercing the darkness.

00:17:27.300 I'll get on a plane that day and fly across the country to New York.

00:17:31.400 And the next morning, join the Witness for Life group with the Sisters of Life that they do the first Saturday of the month.

00:17:38.800 So I'll join them with mass and benediction rosary in front of an abortion facility there.

00:17:46.120 And then after that, we will do the first leg from the East Coast, from the abortion

00:17:53.020 facility in New York City to Times Square.

00:18:49.940 of Texas at Austin on a football game, home game with 100,000 people. We'll walk the big banner

00:18:58.820 across the campus. I'm sure one can imagine that's an important witness with 40% of abortions

00:19:06.180 happening in that demographic, that college age group. And then we'll finish up on September the

00:19:11.760 19th. We'll launch the North Arm from Fargo, North Dakota, St. Mary's Cathedral, and we'll walk 2.7

00:19:20.000 miles from Fargo across the river to Moorhead, Minnesota, to their abortion facility. And that's

00:19:26.400 always met with resistance in Minnesota. Like the other side, they know we're coming and you can

00:19:32.580 picture how distorted and sad that other side looks lined up against the goodness of God,

00:19:40.900 defending life from the moment of conception to eternity. So then that's rolling. And then

00:19:46.720 about 50 days later, we conclude with homecoming weekend at Benedictine College in Atchison,

00:19:53.640 kansas and we finish at the abbey there we do a one mile you know the students parents whoever

00:20:02.600 wants to join in a nice big group of people for the final mile into the abbey at benedicton

00:20:09.360 college so it's just a beautiful conclusion of our event all in christ for pro-life but that's

00:21:40.180 preceded by an act of faith. And those acts of faith often are just moments, a moment of decision

00:21:47.840 to choose God. You know, whether it's an adult baptism or an adult decided to go through OCIA

00:21:53.840 and say, I want to be baptized. Whether it's a moment of a young person or an older person

00:21:59.980 deciding to be confirmed. Guess what? I remember a priest when I said, how long have you been a

00:22:06.540 priest. And he said, since I got up this morning. And of course, the vocational reality is that each

00:22:12.660 of us in our vocation, each time we get up in the morning, before we put our feet onto the floor,

00:22:18.780 we make a decision. Are we going to live out our faith today? And so if it's a matter of living

00:22:23.760 out our baptism and confirmation, we're born again. John chapter three, verse five, born,

00:22:29.120 unless you're born again in water and spirit, you will not have life in me. So it's in that,

00:22:34.440 that it's really a daily decision so to your question john henry when you put on such a shirt

And if they weren't sure, I'm sure they looked it up in this day when everyone's carrying a translator in their hand.

00:26:05.540 So the first thing to your setup is just the courage.

00:26:26.100 so when you take such a mission on you you're i entered it encouraged and i knew that it's about

00:26:33.880 as close as i was going to get to hanging out with saint paul and barnabas like on a boat across the

00:26:40.460 mediterranean or paul and timothy you know walking across asian i knew this is about as close as i

00:26:48.040 was going to get in terms of piercing the culture that's worshiping false gods and golden

00:26:55.800 calves everywhere you looked. In that culture, when people would say, are you Muslim? They already

00:27:03.200 knew the answer. I mean, look at the big cross on the front of a shirt. And then I had to take

00:27:07.820 that deep breath, almost like a moment like Peter, denying God. And it felt that way, John. I'm like,

00:27:14.480 I'm about to answer a question that could have consequences.

00:27:19.860 I mean, I'm not far around here.

00:27:21.780 This isn't safe in a lot of respects, my answer.

00:27:24.880 And I'd be like, uh-uh.

00:27:59.160 yeah it's better than okay it's salvation it's it's a way back it's eternity and little mini

00:28:07.140 You can imagine whether I had 30 seconds or they sat down for several minutes, I would give a little mini krigma, the basic proclamation of the gospel, a little mini RCIA, OCIA, and think that maybe this is the only time this person has received the gospel personally as I represent Christ.

00:28:32.060 so it was beautiful those at bats were just so they're different i mean in a lot of ways i mean

00:28:38.940 just a segue walking out our front door from an evangelization standpoint i mean a lot of people

00:28:45.860 are it's really no different where they're at in their journey or their relationship with god right

00:28:52.020 in our own neighborhoods so you don't have to go to morocco to have such evangelization and you know

00:28:57.900 And we could talk and talk about that, the new evangelization, and really it's a re-evangelization.

00:29:04.280 When I look at the church in many ways, John Henry, they talk about the new evangelization.

00:29:08.720 Well, let's call another word, re-evangelizing.

00:29:12.220 Like a lot of Christianity is having to be like the krigma again, like sharing the gospel

00:29:19.480 again, sharing who we are and what God asks each of us to do.

00:29:23.940 I mean, listen to some of these real general basic things that Christ asks all of us to do.
