00:00:56.600 For many centuries, there was one book that was read more frequently than any other save
00:01:10.380 the Bible in Scotland. That work, of course, was a poem called The Wallace, which was a long,
00:01:16.260 romantic, biographical poem attributed to a man with the moniker of Blind Harry.
00:01:21.700 The poem commemorates the life of William Wallace, who was born around 1270 AD and died in 1305.
00:01:28.740 Wallace was one of Scotland's greatest national heroes and helped lead a successful military resistance against the English king, Edward I.
00:01:37.640 Blind Harry's poem portrays Wallace as the ideal man or hero in the Scottish mind, courageous, patriotic, chivalrous, and deeply devout.
00:01:46.580 It was this poem and retelling of the life of Wallace that inspired screenwriter Randall Wallace to write his script for the movie Braveheart, which released in 1995 and featured actor Mel Gibson as William Wallace.
00:02:00.260 The movie performed exceptionally well and is a man favorite even decades later.
00:02:04.680 As the film opens, we hear Mel Gibson's voiceover.
00:02:16.580 They fought like Scotsmen and won their freedom.
00:02:19.680 It was the phrase warrior poets
00:02:21.420 that inspired our guest in today's episode, John Lovell,
00:02:24.600 to start his media company, the Warrior Poet Society.
00:02:27.760 Since its inception, Warrior Poet Society
00:02:30.220 has expanded on YouTube, created its own clothing line,
00:02:33.400 and even has its own line of shadow systems pistols.
00:02:36.600 Beyond all that, John is a Christian homeschooling father
00:02:39.380 who pastors a church, Grace City, Rome,
00:02:41.760 which is located in Rome, Georgia.
00:02:43.960 In this episode of the podcast,
00:02:45.220 we sit down with John to discuss a number of topics. 0.76
00:02:48.540 Feminism, the need for personal defense training 0.97
00:02:51.080 after the assassination of Charlie Kirk,
00:02:53.440 why the church needs to wake up
00:02:54.880 and why Christians in particular
00:02:56.880 need to stop playing defense
00:02:58.380 and start playing offense in the culture war and more.
00:03:02.240 The King's Hall podcast exists to make self-ruled men
00:03:04.920 rule well and win the world.

00:03:46.840 His words twinkle in the eye.
00:03:48.680 Yeah.
00:03:49.460 And he said, well, I mean, there was a twinkle in his eye.
00:03:51.920 There was a twinkle in his eye.
00:03:52.640 But he did say, we're going to be talking with John Lovell, Warrior Poets Society.
00:03:56.180 Yeah.
00:03:57.420 But he did say that they love to listen to your music.
00:04:01.500 Yeah.
00:04:02.420 And I too have listened to your music.
00:04:04.840 Yeah.
00:04:05.460 So you guys are like best friends, you and John Lovell.
00:04:07.820 Basically.
00:04:08.180 how many times would you say that you have been in a in like combat situations with john
00:04:13.740 um like lifetime like probably a lot of spiritual combat oh like praying at the same time across
00:04:19.680 yeah the spectrum of spiritual like you were at church he was at church i feel like i feel like
00:04:25.740 this is like a haunted cosmosy kind of thing like is there a way that like the
00:04:29.440 have you ever seen the show fringe no no john i'm i apologize if you watch this i'm
00:04:36.560 this was unplanned this was no i haven't it was planned i'm not seeing a show fringe
00:04:42.540 speaking of which some some less fringe things yeah that was a classic air con transition yeah
00:04:50.040 uh we have a lot of exciting stuff we're gonna get into the interview with john yeah we're gonna
00:04:54.800 we're gonna tee that up um but one of my favorite subjects reviling women okay tell me more
00:05:02.600 about what i'm thinking reviling women white knights yeah just well you've laid enough
00:05:10.520 breadcrumbs that i think i can tell where you're going i think you know and where you're going
00:05:14.520 is that everybody who's listening to this episode right now needs to go to new christenpress.com
00:05:20.540 slash reviling lives link in the comments and buy many copies i think david edgington's new book
00:05:27.460 The most loving thing that you could do for your mother-in-law at Christmas.
00:05:35.000 We are not liable for this advice.
00:05:37.160 We're not legally responsible.
00:05:39.420 No, but I mean.
00:05:40.080 Can you imagine?
00:05:41.340 Like, honey, I got you this for Christmas.
00:05:44.340 It's white nights and reviling wives.
00:05:46.560 And she's like, you shouldn't have.
00:05:48.420 You shouldn't.
00:05:48.980 Like, you shouldn't have.
00:05:50.520 Well, you have friends.
00:05:52.260 Yeah.
00:05:52.720 Like all those.
00:05:54.360 Yeah.
00:05:55.360 Could really use this book.
00:05:57.060 No, it's a good book.
00:05:59.260 It's a good book.
00:05:59.920 So David Edgington, we're excited for that.
00:06:02.680 Also have the Boniface option.
00:06:05.220 Yes.
00:06:06.220 We're expecting to receive those books like early December.
00:06:09.680 Yeah, we should have those books in our warehouse first week of December,
00:06:12.400 shipping well in time for Christmas.
00:06:14.240 Best time to pre-order is now because we're doing a pre-order deal.
00:06:17.540 If you buy both of them together in one order, we're giving you 15% off.
00:06:21.580 You would be losing money.
00:06:23.400 And already free shipping.
00:06:24.500 You'd be losing money not to buy them.
00:06:25.820 That's one absolutely correct.
00:06:27.860 From how, from how, from how women understand money shopping and sales, what you just said
00:06:34.160 is true.
00:06:34.720 That's right.
00:06:35.720 Yeah.
00:06:36.040 Yeah.
00:06:36.240 Like how much, oh, I see we went to target today.
00:06:38.840 Like how much, how much was the bill?
00:06:40.680 It was only like $200 and it was $297 and 63 cents.
00:06:45.080 They round differently than we do.
00:06:47.320 And that's fine.
00:06:48.000 We love them.
00:06:48.820 And, and she will say that she saved money.
00:06:50.920 Yeah.
00:06:51.540 I saved money.
00:06:52.660 So you pulled you in a reverse in that you're going to be saving a lot on these books.
00:06:57.060 Yeah.
00:06:57.260 Speaking of saving a lot, John wants to help you save a lot of lives.
00:07:01.160 That's true.
00:07:02.460 Yeah.
00:07:02.760 By being a protector.
00:07:04.540 Once again, unreal transition.
00:07:06.380 Unreal transition.
00:07:07.760 Yeah.
00:07:08.220 Unreal.
00:07:08.660 They work better if they just literally don't make sense.
00:07:12.420 Tate agrees over in the...
00:07:13.520 We have an in-studio audience today.
00:07:17.100 So...
00:07:17.580 Martina McBride, Evanescence, and...
00:07:20.420 Tate Taylor.
00:07:20.900 i can't yeah uh-huh uh-huh yep yeah i mean the brutal american himself the brutal american's
00:07:28.280 here we're gonna get brutal yeah we're getting brutal we are and uh speaking of brutal
00:07:33.840 it's gotta it's gotta stop it's gotta stop what is brutal is that transition uh one of the things
00:07:42.660 i am excited for is in the interview john is a great dude yeah he is he's awesome um i've followed
00:07:50.340 his stuff for a long time you actually have a warrior poet shadow systems pistol everyday carry
00:07:56.920 baby everyday carry let's blur that out on on youtube i've kind of seen his brand grow over
00:08:03.100 the years and he was one of those guys where i think at least for myself we were rooting for him
00:08:08.120 yeah uh because it was cool he was doing a lot of gun content he's uh you know former like special
00:08:14.660 forces dude um so he knows his stuff yeah but he's also talking about you know being a christian
00:08:22.360 father and a protector why that's so important they've done episodes in the past him and his
00:08:27.080 wife on uh homeschooling yep christian education um and and i i say in the interview but like
00:08:32.560 when i listened to some of those episodes i was like he is a really articulate guy
00:08:37.760 yeah the the story he tells in the interview you guys will hear it about the dinner table fight
00:08:42.420 oh yeah and the masculine urge to solve the dinner table fight with the kids and how he did it
00:08:47.180 some really good good stuff there it's really i see what you did that's like a teaser yeah yeah
00:08:51.980 we teased people we teased it about what's in the episode that's right no it's classic classic
00:08:56.380 technique brilliant um one of the other things i do think that's interesting is this concept of a
00:09:01.500 warrior poet um anytime you have sort of classical discussions about masculinity you're going to run
00:09:10.280 into this need for something of like balance and duality, meaning you're not just a guy who
00:09:16.500 shoots a gun or swings an ax or, you know, a sword or whatever it is, but you're also not
00:09:22.560 just a guy who reads books. Right. Um, but this ideal is kind of having both. Yeah. Uh, so I guess
00:09:28.660 just in, in emphasizing masculinity, why is that so important? Yeah. I mean, it's because God made
00:09:34.760 man to be, we've said it before, borrowing from Bill Mauser's great works, Five Aspects,
00:09:40.000 God made man to be lords, husbandmen, saviors, sages, and glory bearers. I think that's the
00:09:46.240 best summation I can give of godly Christian masculinity. And it's what I, you know, how I
00:09:51.740 teach our church. Men were made to be lords, to rule over their own spirits, to rule over their
00:09:56.940 affairs, household, church, civil society, shepherds, husbandmen, caring for the flocks
00:10:02.700 entrusted to them. They were made to be saviors, protectors, lowercase ls, saviors, protecting
00:10:09.920 those in their care, both spiritually and physically, sages, men of wisdom and learning.
00:10:16.160 And that can be everything from Dante to plumbing, what your vocation is, like you should be a sage
00:10:22.240 in your vocation and glory bearers, man is the glory of God. So when you bring all that together,
00:10:27.920 particularly in the Christian tradition, you see this over and over and over is that Christians
00:10:32.680 have had a concern for making men with range.
00:10:37.260 Yeah.
00:10:37.660 You see, I mean, I took a class
00:10:39.400 on the history of classical Christian education
00:10:42.480 in preparation some years ago for our school.
00:10:46.520 And I was reading some of the Italian humanists.
00:10:50.200 They were in this great stream of Christian education
00:10:52.500 and classical education.
00:10:53.400 And it was interesting because they were describing
00:10:56.700 the way that you would educate a statesman
00:10:59.800 or the son of a royal someone who's destined for rule in the civil sphere and one of the things
00:11:06.140 that they said was in the midst of all of this they you know they must know the great works they
00:11:10.960 have to be conversant in these matters of theology and ethics and mathematics and and also make sure
00:11:19.340 that they go sometimes and stand in the chest deep at a cold river and that they wear rough clothing
00:11:24.500 sometimes and that they know how to go out in the field and suffer and have grit and determination
00:11:30.140 in their character and it was it was fascinating to see that just how frequent this comes up in
00:11:36.800 the history of making christian men for rule um well it's interesting range i was thinking about
00:11:43.040 this recently because of proverbs 25 2 and i i've read that verse a lot um it said it is the glory
00:11:50.180 of God to conceal a matter and is the glory of Kings to search a matter out. And then it talks
00:11:55.800 about, um, you know, as the, the height of earth and sea and all that, that so should be the depth
00:12:02.280 of the King. Yeah. And it's interesting when you like, maybe that's not the first thing you would
00:12:06.720 have thought about it with Kingship, but the requirement is that he's a deep guy. Yeah. He
00:12:12.500 like, think about Solomon and all the things that he did and built. Yeah. You know, he was
00:12:17.100 building these massive architectural and like basically garden uh venues yeah he was
00:12:25.020 you know overseeing skilled labor he was i mean just import and export businesses from a vast
00:12:30.680 regions of the world government relations like you name it like he was involved in everything
00:12:35.280 all the way down to like hey consider the ant like i think you see some of this in guys like
00:12:40.960 teddy roosevelt with really having a mind for like you know a naturalist yeah thinking about
00:12:46.200 creation also getting interested in war and you know all the natural sciences of course um so i
00:12:52.340 think just that we're trying to cultivate in our men not everyone is going to be a king but
00:12:57.340 at least there's some aspiration to a glory of kingliness yes um that you know you're it's you're
00:13:04.920 shaping your mind you're reading books if you watch the movie uh braveheart i think they capture
00:13:10.860 this pretty well where he's a young boy his father's been killed and his uncle argyle what
00:13:16.920 a great name great name argyle you know if you can say it i can't i can't but uh he comes to him
00:13:24.080 and he's like i want to fight and he's like before you can have the sword you have to like learn and
00:13:29.080 like points to his head like you have to be you're gonna learn latin you're gonna you know learn
00:13:34.140 christianity you're gonna learn your bible you're gonna learn all all the classics that sort of
00:13:37.720 thing. Um, so I think kind of a good angle for what we're trying to aim at. And I think it's
00:13:42.420 been really good that John has, has captured that, uh, to a large extent. Yeah. Like how useless
00:13:47.240 would it be as a father if you physically protected your family, but you didn't have
00:13:51.880 the wisdom and cunning to protect your family in terms of their education. Yeah. And your kids are
00:13:56.980 like, they were physically safe, but then they were captured by the demons of the government
00:14:01.720 school and now they are furries and, you know, they're gay and they're, you've lost them
00:14:08.540 completely. Well, congratulations. You kept their bodies safe, but you didn't keep their
00:14:12.320 mind safe. You didn't keep their soul safe. It requires range to be a Christian man. That
00:14:16.940 doesn't mean that every Christian man needs to aspire to be a great theologian or pastor or
00:14:21.900 something like that. Your wisdom might be most potently expressed in some aspect of your vocation
00:14:28.360 that is particular to your field.
00:14:31.080 But all Christian men should aspire
00:14:33.380 to have this kind of,
00:14:35.580 with the gifts God gave me,
00:14:37.420 what are the edges?
00:14:38.580 How far can I push it?
00:14:40.000 Maybe I didn't get a 150 IQ, very few did.
00:14:43.600 But what can I do with my 105?
00:14:45.580 How far can I push it?
00:14:47.140 Like maybe I was not given the best genetics
00:14:50.320 in terms of my athleticism,
00:14:52.240 but what can, how far can I push it?
00:14:54.380 Don't like, that's a Christian attitude and zeal.
00:14:57.720 I like, I think that's what John, um, exemplifies in his, his content is just trying to help men
00:15:03.800 to see that they can do it and give them some guidelines. Like even just, um, when it comes
00:15:11.500 to the homeschool thing, I love how he talks about it. It's, it's not rocket science. Like
00:15:16.440 you guys can, you can figure this out. Maybe you're intimidated to get like, you can do it.
00:15:20.320 Yeah. Yeah. No, I think that's really encouraging. So we're going to jump into
00:15:23.700 the interview now with John Lovell. Kind of interesting too. Last thing I'll add is we kind
00:15:29.660 of were, you know, maybe like just following some of his social media. I found out he has,
00:15:34.760 he has another X account that's not warrior poet. He's actually a pastor. Yeah. And so that was
00:15:39.480 really cool kind of background that we'll talk about, which is really, really interesting.
00:15:44.500 But, but kind of exemplifying what you're talking about, a guy with a lot of range,
00:15:47.660 doing a lot of really great stuff and um even we study this in st brennan's but just rhetoric
00:15:54.640 i've enjoyed listening to him talk because i think like you know he's been on some tp usa events and
00:16:01.740 he is just really good at communication yeah and so i think uh that's an art too and so like trying
00:16:07.940 to figure that that part out um just a lot of good masculine stuff that you would want to yeah it's
00:16:13.340 fun to connect with guys that are slightly outside of our like circle of bubble too you know you can
00:16:19.820 get kind of so deep into your tribe and you know all the ins and outs of it and then you connect
00:16:24.200 with someone you're like oh you're a kindred spirit over here in this other circle and there's
00:16:29.040 overlap but there's also distinction and it can bring new things to mind and new ideas and so that
00:16:36.240 that was really helpful we appreciate john taking the time to jump on the interview uh we hope you
00:16:40.780 guys enjoy it. It's edifying and, uh, make sure you check out John on all of the social media
00:16:44.920 platforms where he's making great content and go give him a follow there.
00:16:59.680 Brian, I noticed you've been drinking a lot of coffee from that K cup machine.

00:20:14.000 Well, John, thanks for joining us. We're so glad to have you here on the King's Hall.
00:20:18.500 And we've been encouraged from afar by just lots of the projects that you're doing.
00:20:23.160 So thanks for coming on today.
00:20:25.480 Thanks for having me on. Good to be here.
00:20:28.120 One thing that I discovered this morning about you was that you are actually the preaching pastor of your church.
00:20:35.320 I think a lot of people know about your gun content, like the great stuff you're doing with Warrior Poet Society.
00:20:41.560 How did you become the pastor of the church?
00:20:43.840 how did that happen? Sure. So we planted Grace City, Rome, our church in Rome, Georgia, two
00:20:50.520 years ago, a little over two years ago. And it was just me, my wife, and my two kids. And we
00:20:56.040 really needed a home church. Nothing in the area seemed to fit. And so we decided to plant. And so
00:21:02.240 we went down into the park in downtown Rome, Georgia. I opened up my Bible. I was going to
00:21:08.340 handle the ministry of the Word. My wife was on children's. She was running the children's
00:21:13.480 department. My oldest son was leading worship and my youngest son was on security. And so the four
00:21:19.600 of us planted the church there in downtown Rome in the park. So that was pretty cool. But a lot
00:21:26.200 of folks know me as the gun guy. I do all kinds of YouTube and social stuff for firearms and I
00:21:32.700 teach all that stuff as well. But before that, I was a foreign missionary to Central America for
00:21:38.380 for years. And so we even planted a church there. So fun fact, before I was doing internet gun guy
00:21:44.000 stuff, I was a pastor and a foreign missionary. Wow. That's, that is, that's wild. So what kind
00:21:50.680 of, was it, were you church planting at what region of the world were you serving in? Central
00:21:56.560 America. Central America. Excellent. Excellent. Yeah, that's a, that's a good work. We have
00:22:02.220 listeners from all around the world, honestly. So it'd be, it'd be funny to find out some Central
00:22:07.300 American King's Hall listeners, check in and let us know in the comments where you're coming from
00:22:11.600 and listening from. Yeah, that's exactly right. Uh, John, one of the things I think that's
00:22:15.620 interesting as you look at our world right now, you've, you've talked a lot about this,
00:22:19.380 obviously warrior poets, um, that ethos, I guess, uh, has a real reason for existing in today's
00:22:27.520 world. Uh, we just had Charlie Kirk, uh, down the road from us assassinated. We watched that.
00:22:34.020 As you look at what's going on in the country, why is that message, why is your message more pivotal than ever?
00:22:41.820 Folks are waking up.
00:22:43.500 They can't deny that it's a dangerous world.
00:22:47.240 And I think we need a strong rebirth of masculinity that's both dangerous and it's virtuous.
00:22:55.840 And that's been my message for a very long time.
00:22:58.980 And so men are leaning into it.
00:23:01.000 That's what women want.
00:23:01.800 That's what kids need as well, is virtuous fathers and husbands and folks that aren't going to self-censor and muzzle themselves in the public square, but will speak the truth plainly and boldly in love.
00:23:15.920 And so the idea that we've always been stewarding and promulgating in the public square is we're to be warriors and we're to be poets, lovers and fighters, lions and lambs.
00:23:28.800 And so I've been beating that drum for a decade now, but it's been gaining traction ever since the beginning.
00:23:35.560 But folks are realizing that is what the world needs more of.
00:23:58.800 This is what happens when Christians support Christians.
00:24:01.540 Our communities are strengthened and faithful businesses thrive.
00:24:04.360 So if you're a Christian business owner who wants to reach thousands of like-minded people
00:24:08.060 and grow your company, we'd love to partner with you.
00:24:10.800 Email us at advertising at newchristendompress.com.
00:24:19.200 Yeah, I think that's great.
00:24:20.460 One of the questions I have is just particularly regarding the Christian church.
00:24:24.380 You know, I started doing podcasting in 2020.
00:24:27.380 At that time, it was, you know, COVID was another wake-up call.
00:24:31.540 But it was also hard to get Christians, particularly, you know, to train with a firearm, to think through physical safety.
00:24:38.880 I know for us, Brian, we've seen more hostility, I guess.
00:24:42.600 Oh, man, yeah.
00:24:43.440 The last couple weeks, we've had Antifa protesting outside our church.
00:24:47.960 And there was a day, even myself, I thought, maybe Antifa's, you know, how crazy are they, really?
00:24:52.980 Again, you watch the events on TV with Charlie.
00:24:56.380 I think that, you know, a lot of that has changed.
00:24:58.760 Do you think Christians are waking up to armed defense and understanding more the reason why you need to be a warrior as well?
00:25:06.480 I think so.
00:25:07.540 I think at times of peace, it's easy to assuage yourself that there's no real need to get gunned up and keep your head on a swivel.
00:25:16.800 but when little kids start getting shot by psychopathic crazies, you realize the only way
00:25:22.420 to really stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. And it is the sacred duty of a
00:25:27.680 Christian, of a protector to stand in the gap and say, not on my watch. And so a Christian is
00:25:33.840 commanded to be in the image of God, or we are in the image of God and commanded to be protectors
00:25:39.160 of the innocent. So that could take a whole bunch of different forms, but it wasn't just a metaphor.
00:25:45.760 in the Old Testament or in the New.
00:25:48.860 The soldier, the centurion's faith is praised,
00:25:51.700 and he's never told to stand down
00:25:54.140 and stop doing soldierly things,
00:25:56.220 nor did John the Baptist say that as well.
00:25:59.000 Then we recognize the strong commander
00:26:01.580 of the Lord's army, Jesus, will come back
00:26:03.700 at the Battle of Armageddon, the fields of Megiddo,
00:26:06.800 wielding a sword with great violence and destruction
00:26:09.780 to bring world peace through violence first.
00:26:13.560 And so that's what ushers in heaven.
00:26:17.340 And so we recognize that in order to protect those who are innocent in love, we're ready
00:26:24.500 to stand in the gap and be protectors.
00:26:27.320 We've talked a lot in the King's Hall about this illusion that you can sometimes, it can
00:26:32.460 grow in a society when people forget that the way that you have order instead of chaos,
00:26:39.500 the way that you have a garden instead of a wilderness, the way that you have space for
00:26:45.780 women and children to grow and flourish and, you know, great works of culture to be created
00:26:50.100 are when men are able and capable of doing violence. They go, whether it's in the dominion
00:26:56.120 taking work of bringing wilderness into gardens and order into chaos or defending from enemies
00:27:03.080 as the gospel goes forward and, you know, orderly societies are created. It's interesting to see
00:27:09.380 in the cycle of nations and empires, how you get to this point where everybody forgets what's
00:27:16.060 defending that precarious balance of order. And one of the things that you must not do
00:27:22.640 is eliminate the mechanism that creates virtuous men who are restrained and just and capable of
00:27:30.460 violence. And it seems like in our society, for some time, we've been chipping away at that
00:27:36.760 foundation, uh, toxic masculinity. We've been denigrating, um, males in general and Christian
00:27:43.840 men in particular in our society for some time. And it seems like the result is that, uh, people,
00:27:50.560 you know, they just forget, well, that's what actually keeps all of the, everything from the
00:27:53.980 lights burning that, that lineman that goes out at 3 AM to fix the fault on the power line to
00:27:59.600 the the soldier you know defending the borders of the nation it but at some point the illusion
00:28:06.780 can't be sustained right at some point the enemies see the soft underbelly of a society like that and
00:28:15.180 they say oh let's go we can we can do some work with this society we can conquer this society
00:28:21.020 when you look out today and you see america uh it seems to me at least like maybe you don't agree
00:28:26.040 maybe you do, that we're in some kind of stage of that, an awakening to this erosion of masculine
00:28:32.320 courage and virtue that has been going on for some time. What enemies do you see are looking
00:28:38.920 with hungry eyes at America and saying, there's an opportunity for me to come and conquer and for
00:28:45.260 me to impose my will on this people? Where are the enemies? Where are the dangers for us today
00:28:49.760 that we need to be aware of. That's good. That's good. The real enemy is spiritual.
00:28:56.400 That's where the battle is. It's not flesh and blood. It's not the governments or even the
00:29:00.980 tyrants or the neighbors. Sure, those are tools wielded by the real enemy, but really they're
00:29:07.100 enslaved. They are deceived. They're captives. And while really, truly an advancing tyrannical army,
00:29:12.720 you could look and be like, that's my enemy. I'm like, well, really there's an enemy behind that.
00:29:16.840 They're hostages.
00:29:18.180 They're held captive by a pernicious ideology and satanic strongholds.
00:29:23.620 And so first and foremost, before I point to any of my brethren here on earth and say,
00:29:28.740 that's my enemy, I recognize, no, the real enemy is not against, it's not flesh and blood.
00:29:33.480 It's purely demonic.
00:29:35.600 And so first and foremost, I suppose I would lead with that.
00:29:40.220 Now, practically, those who are under that demonic control are waging all kinds of war against us.
00:29:48.780 There's wars against truth itself.
00:29:51.700 That's a real dangerous one because if you can have truth fall, then the fight is lost without us even putting up a fight.
00:30:01.040 It's like that's what's noble and true and good.
00:30:04.200 And if you lose sight of that, you have no anchor anymore.
00:30:07.620 You're adrift on an ocean.
00:30:08.840 You're absolutely going to be swept away. And so we must have the truth is the very first battleground, I suppose. And then from there, I want to be in the political battle. I want to be able to advance the kingdom of God in those areas so that we can have a society that allows Christianity to flourish.
00:30:32.900 So there's a battle there.
00:30:35.320 There's a enemy of like, oh, here's one.
00:30:39.120 I'm my enemy, aren't I?
00:30:40.980 Of like, I've got this body of death, the flesh waging war.
00:30:45.740 Typically, people aren't destroyed by their external enemies.
00:30:48.860 They're destroyed by their internal enemy.
00:30:51.740 They're destroyed by their own appetites, their own desires, their own folly.
00:30:56.460 And so I also recognize I am constantly carrying with me a harbinger of death.
00:31:01.980 And that is myself. That is the man of flesh. There's also physical enemies out there, people who absolutely want to physically kill you. And that's true all the more. And so whether that's domestic terrorists or terrorists abroad, lovers of people should stand ready and say, not on my watch.
00:31:25.360 Yeah, it's so easy to miss that foundational, we don't wrestle against flesh and blood, we wrestle against powers and principalities in the heavenly places.
00:31:36.520 It explains so much of the world that we see today, once you understand that.
00:31:41.120 I think we've seen, we've talked about it a lot on another podcast we do called Haunted Cosmos, that people are abandoning materialism as a worldview and the idea that there's only stuff and nothing spiritual.
00:31:55.480 There's, you know, no God, no angels, no demons.
00:31:58.400 And one of the reasons is just the explanatory power of that worldview is so poor.
00:32:02.640 When you start looking at what real people are doing, you say, how could a person do something like that?
00:32:08.700 How could something like the transgender movement take deep root in a society where people are physically mutilating themselves in service of craven sexual appetites?
00:32:19.780 And even this idea that we're going to do that to children as a society, and we're going to say, let's give a cocktail of hormone blockers to a 12-year-old and, you know, give them a massive elective surgery to remove working parts of their body.
00:32:36.300 It's just one example there.
00:32:38.160 I do think people are waking up to the spiritual reality.
00:32:41.460 Interestingly, through this, just how obvious the demons have almost made it recently.
00:32:47.400 They've kind of come out of the shadows and just been like, yep, we're waving our demon
00:32:51.240 flag because there's no reason.
00:32:53.480 There's no, you know, it's just pure darkness.
00:32:56.480 Sure.
00:32:57.120 It's new days and old demons, as a popular book title says.
00:33:01.700 And that's absolutely right of carving up kids and sacrificing to Asher or Moloch, our most innocent children.
00:33:09.640 That is as old as paganism itself.
00:33:13.440 And so, yeah, we have different arguments to justify the depravity, but the end result always ends up being the same of demons love to destroy us.
00:33:24.760 They love to kill us.
00:33:26.900 They love to take what's true and honorable and flip it upside down.
00:33:31.140 And they love to convince people that what is good and righteous is actually twisted and evil.
00:33:37.120 Yeah, and I think with that, John, part of the problem, and I've heard you speak about this, I think on the conservative Christian side, a lot of times we're known as sort of the silent majority.
00:33:47.500 And so knowing that all this spiritual warfare is going on, knowing that there's things that we need to speak truth to, I wonder if you would just walk me through why it's important for Christians to go on offense with the truth, not simply to retreat and, you know, let these demons run through the culture, but say like, no, we're actually going to bring the truth and we're going to go speak directly to that in the public sphere.
00:34:11.140 Passivity is not a Christian virtue.
00:34:13.280 Either it's just being a nice guy, a beta, sitting back, going with the flow, don't rock the boat.
00:34:19.760 You don't find any good godly men in the Hebrews 11 Hall of Fame in Scripture.
00:34:25.780 You don't see any of the great men doing mighty works in the name of the Lord, passively going,
00:34:32.160 that's the sin of Adam.
00:34:34.000 Adam, who sat by, abdicated his role in leading his wife Eve,
00:34:38.940 and it's his passivity that ended up resulting in the fall. He could have stepped in. He could
00:34:46.180 have spoke. He could have done something. But instead, it was passivity that led to our fall
00:34:51.160 and it's passivity that will lead us to keep falling. It's passivity that will lead to our
00:34:56.040 ultimate downfall. And it's instead the virtuous, active kind of faith. Jesus, who didn't sit by
00:35:03.800 when we were dead in our sins. Instead, he set aside heaven, stripped himself of his armor,
00:35:10.220 stuck his sword on the ground, and came to earth on a hostage rescue mission to save us. It wasn't
00:35:14.700 a passive thing at all. It was active. It's, I am my brother's keeper. I will go out of my way
00:35:22.100 to advance the kingdom of Christ. Yeah, and a big part of that too, I think, is, you know,
00:35:30.760 we've been talking about this here at refuge, right? As men, we go in the public sphere,
00:35:34.980 we speak truth. Um, but you also need a certain kind of wife behind you, right? She's sort of 0.85
00:35:40.260 got to be the mother of Sparta, right? Saying like, no, you know, come back with your shield
00:35:44.160 or on it. Um, what are some ways like, as you, as you've dealt with this, um, how do you and
00:35:50.840 your wife talk through that? Obviously she's a courageous lady too. You've got to have somebody
00:35:55.700 in that fight who's saying, no, yeah, I want you to, I want you to do this. I want you to do it
00:35:59.960 for our boys. I want you to do it for our family, because there's a real cost there as well.
00:36:05.580 That's a good question. Let me just kind of work this out. It's true that my wife is strong and
00:36:13.520 she's courageous in that old Spartan quote or adage there of, hey, come back with your shield,
00:36:21.280 come back victorious in battle or die in the pursuit, come back with your shield or come
00:36:26.380 back on it. And I do like that. However, though that's absolutely true, and that is my wife,
00:36:33.120 that's not just my wife. And actually what I need from her isn't to challenge me to heroic
00:36:38.960 masculinity in the public square. I don't really struggle in that area. I'm doing fine in that
00:36:44.240 area. Personally, me, John Lovell, when I come home, I just want a house that's peaceful,
00:36:50.240 where I've got, you know, I've come in, I got dragon blood all over me. I've been warring and
00:36:55.460 contending. I've been gathering resources. I've been waging war. I come back in my home and I'm
00:37:02.460 greeted by a family that adores me. Everything stops when I walk through the door and everyone
00:37:07.960 hugs me and I put down my stuff and then I come back to them in 15, 20 minutes once I've kind of
00:37:14.440 mentally shifted. And then I'm just daddy and husband and it's a peaceful house and we're
00:37:19.920 reading books together and we're laughing and it's peaceful and it's a glorious refuge. And
00:37:26.680 that is my home. I want to be at my home all the time. I love my home. And so that's a place where
00:37:32.500 I can really recharge and my wife cultivates that. And so more than stirring me up for acts of war,
00:37:38.760 that's something that she should do is encourage me forward. Most of it, though, is just giving me
00:37:44.920 peace and refreshing me. I need somebody in my corner, you know, of healing me in ways that no
00:37:52.800 one else can. Yeah, it's so true that we don't need women to be cut rate men. Like, you know,
00:38:01.180 God actually made our wives to be our helpers, encouragers. And I do think women, you know,
00:38:06.420 sometimes, you know, like my wife and I, we talk about this all the time on Sundays. I'm useless
00:38:11.560 to the family. I've gone preaching, leading the liturgy, all those things. And she's got our seven
00:38:17.180 kids in the pew and I'm looking out, you know, and, and I tell her all the time, even though
00:38:22.620 she knows that I remind her all the time, any fruit in the ministry of your husband is fruit
00:38:28.260 to your account. Because if, if, if we're not working as a team, if my household isn't in order
00:38:33.700 and we can't come home and have that refuge and oasis of peace, and she's, you know, being a
00:38:39.780 worker at home and all the things Titus two talks about doing all the, that is what enables me to
00:38:45.860 be able to, with single-minded focus, when I step out the door, go and fight whatever battles the
00:38:51.340 Lord puts in front of me. But every single one of them, it's fruit to her account as well.
00:38:55.760 It is kind of funny. The number of times I've come home and, you know, one of my sons will be
00:39:00.740 like, do you see what, you know, dad's getting in on Twitter or, you know, did you see the
00:39:04.620 protesters in front of the church? And actually the refreshing thing is my wife will be like,
00:39:09.180 No, I must have missed that.
00:39:10.460 Well, anyway, dinner's on and we're going to do family worship now together and it's great.
00:39:15.520 And it's, you know, we're singing and there's joy.
00:39:18.460 John, one of the things that you've talked about too is, you know, and this is very much tied in, but feminism.
00:39:24.180 So you've got two boys. 1.00
00:39:25.980 It matters for them.
00:39:27.280 It matters for your future generations. 1.00
00:39:29.720 But what's the problem with feminism? 1.00
00:39:31.500 I've heard you describe it as a disgusting, satanic lie to which I say, amen. 1.00
00:39:38.300 Tell us what you really think. 1.00
00:39:39.360 Tell us what you really think about feminism. 1.00

00:42:43.420 it will leave you absolutely miserable you're going to be competing with men and secretly
00:42:50.400 despising men. Yet your heart is going to desperately want to partner with a man. And
00:42:56.820 when you're about 34 and you've been a boss babe for long enough, all of a sudden you'll realize
00:43:01.240 you really just want a husband who adores you and a house full of children. And then you find some
00:43:06.120 kind of dope, safe, passive beta male. You pop out a few children and you try to carve him into
00:43:12.060 your image and you end up just beating them down. And then a few divorces later, you're just
00:43:17.920 wondering what, why are, where are all the good men and why can't I get a good one? And you have
00:43:21.920 no idea, no accountability that, uh, you've really become unmarriable, uh, to some extent or
00:43:28.600 unpart. You're, you're very difficult to partner with because you're always seeking that power
00:43:35.120 struggle that feminism is engaged in. You can't enter into a partnership and submit to a husband 1.00
00:43:40.340 who is rightfully supposed to be the head. Instead, you're a strong, independent woman.
00:43:44.820 And the problem with that is, is strong and independent women don't make good wives of
00:43:50.560 like, I'm, I'm not a strong and independent man. 0.54
00:43:52.820 I'm strong, but I'm not independent.
00:43:55.020 I am completely dependent on my wife.
00:43:58.480 We have fused together in an incredible way that I don't really know where I end. 1.00
00:44:03.380 And she starts, uh, of, uh, I adore that woman.
00:44:07.240 She's by far the most powerful person in the world in my life, uh, with huge amounts of
00:44:13.540 influence, though she's not the leader. I'm the leader. She's my helper. She's my second self,
00:44:19.080 so to speak. And we work together as a missional team. And my wins are her wins and her wins are
00:44:25.340 my wins. And so it's a really beautiful and fulfilling thing. It's scary for a gal to submit
00:44:33.240 to it, but it's not scary to submit to a man that loves you and wants well for you. If you just 0.73
00:44:39.820 tried it. The complementarian worldview works extremely well in what my wife discovered because
00:44:46.440 she really was that strong and independent gal who's out making it on her own. And she's a task
00:44:52.700 master over a whole myriad of different things. And she's kicking tail. We had some real struggles 0.99
00:44:57.960 because we aspired to build a biblical marriage. And we didn't have any real good examples of what
00:45:02.920 that looked like. And so we had to kind of construct that over time. And it was a scary
00:45:07.020 and very difficult first couple years. And in year three, we kind of hit a stride
00:45:11.120 and had some breakthroughs. But she had to choose to submit to me and I had to learn what
00:45:16.480 sacrificial leadership looked like. I've been given the mantle of authority primarily
00:45:22.080 to serve. The call of my leadership is make her life easier than your own. You've been given
00:45:31.080 strength because you're meant to carry a heavier burden than your wife. Her life should be easier
00:45:36.760 than yours, of I'm going to carry all my stuff and then I'm going to carry some of her stuff too.
00:45:41.440 Not because I have to, but because I want to. And so the lie of feminism makes this not an 1.00
00:45:51.260 absurdity. It makes it something that gals would scoff at, recoil at, not realizing that if they 1.00
00:45:56.620 leaned into it, they could find a happily ever after. They're actually built for what I'm saying.
00:46:02.640 They're just terrified of it and they've been poisoned against it.
00:46:05.000 Yeah. And it is. We tell and encourage the women at Refuge Church, encourage my wife all the time, my daughters. It is a serious thing to say to a man, your name is going to become my name. The Proverbs talk about the value of a good name. And that's what I want my sons to think.
00:46:24.360 be the kind of man that it would be such a gift to be able to give your name to a woman,
00:46:30.040 but understand that for her, this, the fear is real. She's hitching her wagon to yours. She's
00:46:36.620 saying, where you go, I'll go. She's saying, I'll submit to you. I'm going to respect you. I'm going
00:46:42.100 to believe that you're going to continue to be a respectable man all the days of your life,
00:46:47.020 that you're going to do me good. Like that's a very, very serious thing, weighty thing that you
00:46:51.060 are asking of a woman or that you are looking for in a woman. And I think sometimes we can
00:46:57.660 underestimate in both directions what the actual difficulty is for the other. Like, you know,
00:47:04.720 Paul's always speaking into weakness in Ephesians 5. Husbands, love your wives. Why does he say
00:47:08.500 that? Well, because husbands often are tempted to love themselves. Wives, see that you respect
00:47:13.340 your husbands. Why is he saying that? Well, because wives often are going to have a real
00:47:17.840 difficulty and struggle and respecting her husband. But if each one is thinking it's better to be a 1.00
00:47:25.620 good husband and have a good wife, and it's better to be a good wife than have a good husband. If
00:47:29.860 each of them are thinking that, and that's just William Gouge, domestic, Puritan, this 400 year
00:47:34.220 old stuff. Like if each person's doing that, then the glory is hard to describe to someone that
00:47:41.100 hasn't experienced it. You said like, you don't know where you began and she, it's, there's this
00:47:47.580 greater than the sum of its parts thing that not only like when you, it creates immortal souls,
00:47:53.900 like that's how powerful it is. It creates immortal image bearers of God who are going to
00:47:58.640 live forever in glory or in shame and judgment. Like that's how powerful a thing marriage is.
00:48:05.340 so when you have something like feminism come in and attack the roots of that you're not attacking 1.00
00:48:12.900 something peripheral to society or human life or everything that makes human life satisfying
00:48:19.100 joyful fruitful um it's you're attacking something foundational um i think this is why people we we
00:48:26.560 need to understand that when when you say i'm at war with feminism you're not saying i'm at war
00:48:33.800 with women you're actually saying i'm at war for women and men and society and my neighbor and you
00:48:41.780 know and for the glory yes actually because we we love them we love we we love our neighbors and we
00:48:47.560 want good you know love seeks the highest earthly and heavenly good of its object that's that's what
00:48:52.100 we're trying it gives itself to do that and so yeah it's really good people can hear when you get
00:48:57.680 when you ended up when you societally when you're in a place where you have to fight where like you
00:49:02.780 said, if passivity is not a fruit of the spirit, it's not a Christian virtue. If you go the passive
00:49:07.820 route, you're cooked, your family's cooked, your generations are cooked, society's cooked, it's all
00:49:12.280 cooked. You're going to lose. But when you get into that position and then godly men rise up
00:49:17.960 and they do fight, people can immediately mistake it for hatred, for, well, tumult, you just want
00:49:25.880 to go out and cause a bunch of problems for everybody. And you're like, no, I actually love
00:49:30.740 you. I want you good for you. I don't want you to be the 40 year old woman full of regret, never had
00:49:37.440 children. Um, I don't want that for, and there's going to be a wave of, of both men and women in
00:49:44.000 this situation. It's going to be terrifying. I think the church is going to need to be equipped
00:49:48.040 to minister to people in that situation and give them hope and love them in the name of Christ,
00:49:54.260 welcome them into the family of God. You can still have a family in the family of Christ,
00:49:58.720 but it's going to be difficult. Yeah. Yeah, no, I think that's true. Uh, John,
00:50:02.900 one of the things I want to ask you related to that, um, you guys have talked a lot about this.
00:50:07.240 We were talking offline just that, uh, in, in my experience, a lot of the people in the gun
00:50:12.320 industry, uh, kind of found your content years ago. And I was like, wow, this is really cool.
00:50:17.480 Obviously knows how to handle himself at the range and with firearms is really informative.
00:50:23.100 And then I remember watching a video of yours with your wife on Christian homeschooling.
00:50:27.780 And I was thinking, this is one of the most coherent, like well put arguments for homeschooling that I've heard. And it's not from somebody whom I expected at that time to be talking about that. So I guess just for you, just give me the rundown, like why homeschooling?
00:50:44.840 I think this is tied to wanting to see your worldview shaped in your offspring, not wanting to see them indoctrinated by the left, sending them to a place where the left is going to indoctrinate them or their teacher is pushing LGBT, whatever.
00:50:59.360 It's been a big thing for your household.
00:51:01.540 Just tell me why.
00:51:02.380 Why homeschooling for you guys?
00:51:05.600 Sure.
00:51:06.240 So warrior poet, that's a pretty broad category.
00:51:09.200 A lot of people would like to just pigeonhole me in the warrior stuff and they say, hey, stick to gun videos.
00:51:14.640 And I'm like, poet. I mean, no, no, I've never just stuck to gun videos. Just it's a buffet, bro. Eat what you like. Here's what I'm serving up. You don't have to click on a homeschool video, but I'm going to talk about it because we're your poet.
00:51:29.300 But I would rather convert somebody to homeschooling than I would.
00:51:35.040 Let me say I'd rather convert someone to homeschooling than to firearms.
00:51:40.860 And that's very surprising for some people.
00:51:43.200 I'm like, wait, you're you're more passionate about homeschooling than guns.
00:51:46.640 Absolutely. Guns are a means to an end.
00:51:49.540 I want to be able to protect people because I really love people.
00:51:53.240 But the subject there, the focus there, the direct object there, it's the people.
00:51:57.840 I love people and guns are a means to be able to protect people of like, no, I use a gun to protect
00:52:06.040 my son, but I love my son more than the gun. It's just a means to an end. And so I believe
00:52:12.860 homeschooling is, should be our kind of default setting. It has been for the entirety of human
00:52:19.720 civilization that children would learn life skills and be initiated into masculinity or
00:52:25.180 femininity by their parents. Now, also under the shadow of the steeple in the church, we can bring
00:52:30.600 families together, share resources. And now we have kind of a co-op of sorts that's all done
00:52:38.440 through the church. And so the church has always been educating our youth. And then we come together
00:52:43.440 in different families, and maybe we have our own co-op. But the idea of a government school system,
00:52:48.700 a public education, that's really the new kid on the block for all of human history.
00:52:54.200 and it is failing massively yet because that's what we know and what our parents knew it becomes
00:53:00.480 really a default setting and it shouldn't be our real default setting should be parents teach the
00:53:05.520 kids and it's not so difficult we don't need to drag out all the experts like it's just too
00:53:12.660 difficult to teach kids what you know as a man right now whoever's listening as a man you're
00:53:18.700 using all the stuff you need as a man teach them that it's like but i don't know algebra too i'm
00:53:24.100 like, yeah, you were never going to use algebra two. It's just a colossal waste of time. Most of
00:53:30.420 the time now everyone runs to the outlier of like, well, I met somebody who knew a person who died
00:53:36.460 once, uh, who used algebra two once. And I'm like, well, great. Okay. Well then there's the outlier
00:53:42.280 for the rest of humanity. We're not actually using calculus. Never, never. And so the,
00:53:48.420 The difficulty is I just call I call bull crap on most of the government school system, not just in the time wasting that's happening, not just in the horrible depravity that's being circulated amongst peers, not just in that we're removing generational knowledge shares from older kids and younger kids and parents as well.
00:54:11.140 And instead, they're with a teacher who's got the, you know, bull nose ring and pink hair and unique pronouns and wants to talk to our kids about sexuality when they're six years old of like all this is so upside down twisted.
00:54:24.080 And yet, folks, when I mention of like, hey, maybe we should educate our own kids, you know, like I could just if they were just around you, they'd learn all the stuff, you know, and they could take over what you're doing one day or join in.
00:54:40.080 And so it's not such an incredible fight. And homeschooling is so much easier than people think. It's really inspire a love of learning and protect it. Don't let the love of learning die. Help them love books and then put the right titles under their nose.
00:54:57.120 And if you just did that, you can go ahead and take a few victory laps around your house.
00:55:01.280 You won.
00:55:02.300 Everything else is just added bonus.
00:55:04.700 You know, I need them to know some logic and some rhetoric and sales and how do taxes work and how does insurance work.
00:55:13.520 And here's how finance works of like all that stuff, all the good stuff.
00:55:17.380 But if you could just get them to love reading and put the right books under their nose, man, that right there is great.
00:55:22.940 But the very first thing government school system does is it kills everyone's love of learning, particularly the boys.
00:55:28.640 Most kids graduate high school having never actually read a book.
00:55:32.740 They pretended to.
00:55:34.060 They got the A.I. answers and the cliff notes and they skimmed it and they kind of bullcrap their way through whatever.
00:55:41.140 But they're they're not reading.
00:55:43.560 They hate reading.
00:55:44.420 At one point, most folks that are listening right now, well, most people who are listening right now are readers.
00:55:51.560 uh but if this was a little bit less nuanced of a channel and it was more just open to the public
00:55:59.200 i could say to the general public there was a time when you were a kid you liked reading do
00:56:04.760 you remember it it was great illustrated classics and hardy boys and stuff like that
00:56:09.040 and then you stopped reading and then you never really started again right what happened well
00:56:15.680 the government school system happened which immediately crushed your love of learning
00:56:19.020 and uh it's terrible stuff i love our kids and i want real education not schooling i want education
00:56:27.900 which is something altogether different might include schooling or it might not but education
00:56:32.360 uh is critical yeah man my son last night he tried to get out of helping uh rake the leaves
00:56:40.080 in the yard because he said i need to read book seven of play-doh uh for for uh for headmaster
00:56:46.520 loves. I mean, that's sneaky. And I said, that was a good try, bud. That was a really good try.
00:56:51.860 It's not, you're going to still going to rake the leaves and then you're going to read Plato.
00:56:55.240 And what's Plato talk about being a good citizen? Yeah. He's raking leaves, bud.
00:57:02.440 Here's your problem, son. I read that too. Plato wants you to rake leaves when your dad says,
00:57:07.560 okay, dad, you know, that's so funny. St. Brandon's kids are, we have a church school
00:57:12.200 at the St. Brandon's. It's like four day a week. We split into boys and girls school
00:57:15.720 in secondary, seventh grade and up. And it's just so funny to walk through and just listen
00:57:22.060 to the conversations that literally, I think nine-year-olds are having. I mean, they're talking
00:57:27.480 about the great questions of history. When we were reading this book, what did you think about
00:57:33.980 the ethical dilemma of it? I'm like, you're nine. But if you don't crush it, if you give them great
00:57:39.280 books and you give them just a love of learning, then you find out that human beings, it turns
00:57:44.760 out they were made by God to be interested in the world that he made, interested in the great
00:57:50.220 questions, interested in what is good, true, and beautiful. And also a lot of what you said,
00:57:55.800 I almost want to unpack that a little bit more. I love that when you talk about education,
00:58:00.640 you're not just talking about a couple of, you know, some curricula of math, science, but also,
00:58:07.280 hey, let's talk about doing your taxes. Let's talk about masculine and feminine arts.
00:58:11.880 we have a program a tightest two program where the boys i mean this what are they doing next
00:58:16.340 week they're pheasant hunting yeah they're going pheasant hunting we've done elk hunting they've
00:58:20.520 done long-range shooting we've done yeah pistol car maintenance you know we have a guy who was
00:58:26.100 an a10 pilot who teaches that and he was like well if you want me to teach him they need to be men
00:58:31.300 i'm gonna teach him what i know next thing we know they're they're out elk hunting in the high
00:58:35.420 he got a flat tire and he was like everybody parking lot we're changing a tire yeah that's
00:58:39.740 Titus two today. It's so important that we actually do that. But people, for some reason,
00:58:44.260 we've allowed ourselves to be convinced as a society that there's this body of knowledge
00:58:48.580 that we can cordon off called education. And most of it is useless and boring. And then there's like
00:58:53.960 all this stuff that's not education and it's super useful and interesting. And it's what the boys
00:58:58.300 want to do. And it's what the girls want to do. It's like, why did we do this? This doesn't help
00:59:03.580 anybody. Just get them with dad, get them with men, get them with godly women. And they're going 1.00
00:59:08.480 to, they're all different. They're going to express interest in lots of different directions
00:59:12.220 and go and become themselves. But if we don't crush their spirit in the process, we'll find
00:59:19.240 out, oh, God made them. They know how to learn. Yeah. No, that's really good. John, I want to ask
00:59:24.320 you kind of, as we wrap up here, I know you guys have a lot of irons in the fire. You're doing a
00:59:27.800 lot of great work. Of course, we encourage people to check out your different channels, even got
00:59:32.660 a pastor channel now. But one of the exciting things that I saw was a book that I believe your
00:59:38.900 wife, is that already out? It's out. So it's called Boyhood Resurrected, and it really helps
00:59:45.720 families, man and wife, it's meant for both men and women, sync up on how do you raise boys into
00:59:53.640 strong men. Uh, it's, it's a little bit more experiential, uh, and, uh, but it's, it's citing
01:00:02.060 the experts as well, uh, without being a slave to them. Uh, and then instead it's practical of
01:00:07.860 what actually works, uh, and what, what is being lost as we cram little boys into classrooms and
01:00:13.160 command them to sit still for eight hours a day. What's being lost? What, what, what's the cost of
01:00:17.940 not climbing trees and risking big and doing dangerous things and learning leadership and
01:00:24.860 jujitsu and running through the woods. If a lot of kids are just growing up behind screens,
01:00:30.820 what's the cost of that? And how do you actually get kids playing rough again? And how do you get
01:00:38.140 moms who understand what dad brings to the table uniquely into parenting roles? My wife is the 0.95
01:00:45.680 best boy mom in the world. She's awesome. Uh, and she, uh, she understands what a man is and 0.93
01:00:52.020 she understands what a boy is and she understands my unique role in that. And so, uh, where her job
01:00:58.620 is primarily her major is, uh, to be the nurturer, to be the emotional center of our home. She's the
01:01:05.960 heart. And she loves our boys. And my job, I'm the head. And as the masculine influence, I'm not
01:01:16.160 supposed to nurture as much. That's part of my job as well. But I minor on what she majors on.
01:01:21.240 My job is to make them strong. She keeps them alive and I make them strong. And so it takes
01:01:26.920 a man to make a man. My wife can't make a man. She's never been a man because we're conservatives. 1.00
01:01:32.300 that's good it took me it took me a second sorry i had to pause and laugh at my own joke
01:01:40.000 so uh it takes a man to make a man period you know so um yeah it a man will solve a problem
01:01:50.380 with uh with a child differently than a wife he'll approach it different and has a different
01:01:55.680 set of solutions. And right now, uh, the parenting of kids really tilts to mom. Uh, and this is a
01:02:03.340 part of the echoes of feminism in general, where you got a matriarch and these are the kids and 1.00
01:02:08.340 she's got, she's dealing with stuff and then she'll ask the husband to help. But this is what 1.00
01:02:13.420 happens. As soon as he comes into help and starts seeing it and solving this problem, his way,
01:02:19.500 she immediately steps in, referees, defends the kid against something that maybe she views as a
01:02:27.060 harsh hand or she doesn't like that. And then the husband sees him like, oh, I guess this isn't
01:02:32.900 welcome. I guess I'll go find a hobby in the garage. And she welcomes him into parenting the
01:02:39.460 kid, but then immediately cuts him off at the pass. This happens all the time. And what happens
01:02:45.640 is his mom will nag dad into, why don't you care?
01:02:48.700 Why don't you have to participate?
01:02:49.900 And she doesn't realize because whenever he starts to,
01:02:52.980 she cuts him off and interferes. 0.87
01:02:54.720 And so my wife had to learn, one, she was doing that early on. 1.00
01:03:00.300 And then she had to have the discipline to hold her tongue and to stop. 0.73
01:03:03.960 If you want me to get involved, great.
01:03:05.400 But you can't protect the kids from me.
01:03:08.060 Yeah, that's right.
01:03:09.120 Because I'm coming in love, but it's going to look different.
01:03:13.380 Watch, just spend judgment and see what happens because of like kids won't eat their food.
01:03:18.100 This is a good example.
01:03:19.140 She talks about this in her book, Boyhood Resurrected.
01:03:22.220 Kids won't eat their food and moms bargain with them and airplane noises.
01:03:27.460 Here we go.
01:03:27.920 And when they're really little, you got to do that.
01:03:30.000 And that's fun.
01:03:30.560 But especially if like a four-year-old, five-year-old won't eat their food, mom will bargain with 0.97
01:03:36.040 them. 0.62
01:03:36.360 We'll maybe dessert or you better, you're going to do whatever.
01:03:39.680 But it's kind of like negotiating with a little terrorist.
01:03:42.700 Three and four-year-olds, they're little terrorists until you really train them right in the way of the Lord.
01:03:47.760 These are not little angels like grandma might suspect.
01:03:50.660 Mom and dad knew better.
01:03:52.800 And so for the longest, for quite a while, I watched my wife do this.
01:03:58.640 I try to interject, and she protect kids from us.
01:04:02.360 This is when they were really little guys.
01:04:03.740 This is a long time ago.
01:04:04.660 We've grown a lot since then.
01:04:06.700 And finally, in frustration, she's like, would you help?
01:04:10.260 I'm like, I will solve this problem forever tonight. If you will promise to not interfere.
01:04:15.800 And she's like, what are you going to do? I'm like, that is none of your business. I love my
01:04:18.860 children. It's, it's, I love my kids. We're on the same team here, but you won't like how I solve it,
01:04:25.660 but I will solve this tonight. And so, um, she gave me the keys there. She, that, that means
01:04:31.940 she's not going to nag. She's not going to get in between us. And I said, but you got, you got 0.95
01:04:36.060 five minutes to, or I gave him a certain time period. I don't remember what it was, two minutes
01:04:39.820 to eat your dinner as fast as you can. I want you to look like a human wood chipper. And he doesn't
01:04:46.340 do it. And I'm like, all right, great. Go to bed. It's like, what? His eyes got real big. Looks at
01:04:50.500 mom. Mom can't help. Shrugs. I'm like, okay, go to bed. And it's like, the sun is still up, you
01:04:57.300 know? You can't, what do you mean go to bed? I'm like, no, you will get in pajamas and you will
01:05:02.500 go to bed. I will not see you again, but I'm hungry. Sorry. And my wife's like, he's hungry.
01:05:08.280 Nope. You promised. And so I'm like, and here, listen, listen to this, bud. Tomorrow morning,
01:05:14.660 when you wake up, you're looking at your breakfast right now. It will be this dinner
01:05:18.380 and you don't have to eat it. But, but if you don't, this will also be tomorrow's lunch
01:05:24.320 and tomorrow's dinner. You will never eat again until it is this meal.
01:05:30.640 This is your, this will be your meal. You will eat this. And I'm not going to make you do it,
01:05:36.700 but when you want food again, this is where you'll find it. And I sent him to bed and he cried and he
01:05:42.660 wailed. Uh, and you come up and I'm like, Hey bud, you can cry, but I don't want to hear it.
01:05:46.820 Cry your eyes out, but you're not wailing. I'll come spank you if you do. Uh, and so cry, cry, 0.99
01:05:51.860 quiet tears later that very evening. Um, uh, I, I went up to his room, check on him and he's hungry
01:06:01.140 and he wants to eat the food. And so I brought up his dinner, cold, and with a big smile on his face
01:06:07.040 and tears coming down his eyes, he happily ate his dinner while he was in his bed. And it was a
01:06:12.980 really big moment, but that was it, that we were done. Men approach these problems differently.
01:06:18.620 We solve the problems differently. And what she just wasn't able to solve, it was very intuitive
01:06:24.340 for me. That doesn't mean men know best, but it does mean women don't always know best. And it
01:06:29.880 turns out the best way to raise a child healthy so that you don't raise them up like little beta
01:06:36.220 entitled Napoleons and you don't raise them up completely harsh tyrants that can't love a family. 1.00
01:06:43.680 Mom gets her way sometimes. Dad gets his way sometimes. But in the tension
01:06:47.980 of what we both think is best, a child flourishes.
01:06:52.920 Yeah, that's really good. That's really good. Problem solved.
01:06:55.700 problem you will never look me in the eye son you will never eat again until you eat this meal
01:07:02.700 you gotta it's it's it's tough love and and and frankly kids need it they revel in that discipline
01:07:09.220 our kids we live on a farm and our kids have to do chores and this this kind of stuff is all over
01:07:15.240 uh boyhood resurrected my wife's new book it's all over the book uh but but one example is is
01:07:20.940 all right we're gonna give them chores boys your job is to take care of these chickens
01:07:24.700 and if you don't take care of the chickens, they will die and it will be your fault.
01:07:31.000 You'll bury them, but you must take care of the chickens. This is your job. And they're little
01:07:36.200 guys too. You know, the boys are smaller. You know, they're going down to close the chicken
01:07:40.460 coop. And my youngest then is, he's like eight years old and it's kind of like a hundred yard
01:07:45.460 walk in the dark. And he's like, daddy, will you come? I'm like, not tonight, bud. You're doing
01:07:50.100 this one on your own, but I'll give you night vision. And so this is a true story. I thought
01:07:57.600 it was way cooler than a flashlight. His eyes lit up. I'm like, really? I'm like, yeah, buddy,
01:08:02.420 in the dark, you're the predator when you wear night vision. Let all fear you. You're the
01:08:08.560 predator. You're the dangerous one. You have night vision. And so my little boy puts on his helmet,
01:08:14.520 night vision down, salute. And he goes way down into pitch black darkness to take care of the
01:08:21.020 chickens in the dark. And yeah, he was scared. But my little boy is learning huge lessons that
01:08:27.040 are going to be essential in developing courage, in taking risks, in managing responsibility.
01:08:32.840 That's the stuff a boy needs to learn as early as possible so that one day he can lead a family
01:08:38.660 in strength, that he can risk it all and ask the girl to marry him. And girls are scary. I get it. 0.98
01:08:44.520 that he could go to war and close distance with the enemy,
01:08:46.900 that he could risk it all and start a business
01:08:49.160 and work really hard and take risks.
01:08:51.940 That stuff is more important
01:08:55.300 than what they're learning in the classroom oftentimes,
01:08:58.560 but it's not being taught.
01:08:59.740 We're subbing out both parenting accidentally
01:09:02.960 and education to the state.
01:09:05.860 Yeah, that's great.
01:09:07.960 John, where's the best place
01:09:08.960 where people can pick up a copy of that book?
01:09:10.720 you can go to boyhood resurrected.com or rebecca level.com and your folks will know
01:09:19.420 uh rebecca and genesis spelled k-a-h rebecca level.com it either either one will get you there
01:09:25.540 but that's how you spell the name like in genesis where's the best place for people to follow you
01:09:30.780 see what you're up to with warrior poet society and everything else you're up to everyone's got
01:09:34.660 their own favorite platform, whether it's X or Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, all of it for me
01:09:42.580 is just Warrior Poet Society. Pretty easy to find online too. We got a website and sell all kinds of
01:09:49.220 cool tactical gear and things like that and books and whatnot. So check all that out, but Warrior
01:09:54.680 Poet Society. Excellent. Excellent. Well, thanks for your time. We really appreciate it. Super
01:09:59.500 helpful. I'm sure our listeners are going to really enjoy that. And any last words, Eric,
01:10:03.540 before we? No, I think that's great. One of the things we do, John, is we give men a charge
01:10:07.520 at the end of our show. So it's like a 20, you know, 20, 30 second thing. So I wanted to pass
01:10:13.940 the baton to you, to you. And I want to give you the opportunity to charge men. So think of it like
01:10:19.460 this. If you were having breakfast with your kids and especially boys and you're sending them out
01:10:25.820 in the world, what do you tell them to get them fired up? What do you tell them to fill them with
01:10:32.960 what Heraclitus might've called that inner fire
01:10:36.120 so that they go out, they know their mission
01:10:38.780 and they're ready to do their duty before God and other men.
01:10:42.980 How would you, I wanna give you the opportunity
01:10:45.020 just to give a quick charge.
01:10:46.940 We do this stuff all the time.
01:10:48.460 That's quite easy.
01:10:49.480 Hey, be strong and very courageous.
01:10:51.540 The stakes are eternally high.
01:10:54.360 Souls hang in the balance
01:10:55.780 while we fiddle around with a million vanities.
01:10:59.260 Recognize that Jesus is King.
01:11:01.020 He's called us into his service.
01:11:02.960 And it is our, it is at our great pleasure that we serve the King while we try to make
01:11:08.340 disciples of all people, while we speak the truth with gentleness and in love, but also
01:11:13.620 with bold daring men raise up and find your true self in Christ.
01:11:32.960 We'll be right back.
01:12:02.960 answer listener questions. Overall, it's a great time, so I'd encourage you to head over to
