When we talk about the rise of Somali-American politics in the United States, most of us don t know what to make of it, but we do know one thing: it s a lot like Third World politics. In fact, it s worse.
00:06:55.120Now later on in this footage, according to the translation,
00:07:23.640Ilhan Omar attacks Somalis who translate her speeches into English.
00:07:28.140She claims those Somalis are misrepresenting her words and trying to get her in trouble or even arrested.
00:07:34.660Or at least I think that's what Ilhan Omar is saying.
00:07:36.480Based on the translation that was done by a translator, she's attacking.
00:07:39.580For all I know, the translators are messing with her in a very meta way.
00:07:45.720That said, Omar has challenged these kinds of translations in the past with little success.
00:07:49.800As you might remember, about two years ago, there was a dispute about what Ilhan Omar said during one of these speeches.
00:07:57.020Specifically, there was a dispute about whether she really said that she wants to use her position in Congress to advance Somalia's interests.
00:08:04.480Omar disputed the translation that was making the rounds online, where she said that very explicitly.
00:08:08.140In response to Daily Wire, commissioned a professional independent translation of Omar's remarks and found that the online translation was mostly accurate.
00:08:18.360So we'll assume, especially since Omar's team hasn't pushed back on this latest video in any way, that the remarks are mostly accurate.
00:08:27.520And also, by the way, as I've said many times now, this is one of the reasons why politicians should be banned from addressing crowds in any language but English.
00:08:39.880We as Americans, she's a congressional representative, we should know what she's saying.
00:08:45.600And if she comes back later and says, the translation wasn't accurate, guess whose fault that is?
00:09:01.480And it's not our responsibility to spend, like, days trying to, we got to track down a, we got to go to Somalia, track down a Somali translator.
00:09:16.460But assuming that all that is accurate, which I think it is, that would mean that, indeed, all of these TikToks and social media posts coming from Somalis in Minneapolis are accurate as well.
00:09:26.840Somalis are at each other's throats because of Klan warfare to the point that they're influencing elections in this country, as many of these posts are saying.
00:09:34.300So here's just a few of these examples where various Somalis reference Kabil, or intertribal conflict, which is what they call it in that language, which played a key role in the race.
00:11:09.420Choosing a name that they've been tied to for the past hundreds of years.
00:11:13.260Now, tribal differences are such a major part of life in Minnesota that the state's Department of Health has published guidance on this topic.
00:12:11.660Now, to be clear, it's not just last Tuesday's vote in Minneapolis that was influenced and probably decided by these various clan differences among Somalis.
00:12:19.480This phenomenon is far more widespread than that.
00:12:22.420In fact, Somalis have brought their tribal disputes all the way to Maine, where less than 10,000 Somalis reportedly live.
00:12:29.300I mean, if there's anywhere in the world you'd think you could go and you wouldn't have to deal with Somali culture, you'd think it'd be Maine, up in the mountains, in the woods.
00:12:43.540This is an analysis from Steve Robinson, an editor of The Maine Wire, one of the top news outlets in the state.
00:12:49.340A Somali source of Maine offers this explainer on the clan dynamics unfolding in Maine-slash-U.S. politics.
00:12:56.640The Darud clan dominates Somali political representation in Maine, but by population, other clans have massive presence, but for some reason, the Darud love power.
00:13:05.380People including figures like Ilhan Omar, Dekha Dalak, Yusuf Yusuf, I think these are actual people, Omar Fateh, Safiya Khalid, Abdullah Ali, just good old-fashioned American names there, are from the same sub-clans of Darud, Ogadan, and Majitin.
00:13:26.340In Somalia, however, the Darud are just one of the four major clans alongside Hawiye, Rahanwin, and Durr, without overall dominance.
00:13:37.080So these are—this is stuff you've got to know now to understand American politics.
00:13:42.040Now, before we continue with Steve Robinson's post, it probably goes without saying that from the perspective of actual Americans, none of these geographical differences or clan affiliations really matter or should matter.
00:13:52.040All of these people need to go back to Somalia without exception.
00:13:54.660The Somali legislators in Maine sound exactly like the Somali legislators in Minnesota.
00:14:01.960They're all talking about the importance of representing Somalia and not America.
00:14:08.020So, again, if you listen to the audio translation, that is a Maine representative, a state rep in Maine.
00:14:38.020Maine, who is saying that Somalis should prioritize their own country, which is Somalia, and they should prioritize developing Somalia.
00:14:48.040That's her priority as a state representative in the state of Maine.
00:14:51.860And they want to develop Somalia, not by going back to Somalia, where they belong, but by coming here and stealing from us and sending our resources back to their home country.
00:15:04.400It is, in every sense, a parasitic relationship.
00:15:09.240These are not people who have come here to help America.
00:15:13.080They're people who have come here to take the resources and bring it back to their godforsaken, failed state country that they came from.
00:15:21.080Now, when Americans see clips like this, you know, we don't exactly think of the Hawiye or the Darud clan, which, as far as I know, is completely unrelated to the song Sandstorm, but I'm not sure.
00:15:30.580We just think of Somalis, and we want them out of the country, and that's the appropriate response.
00:15:37.300But as Steve Robinson reports, there's a lot more going on under the hood.
00:15:40.860Quote, Somali immigrants from these other clans, particularly Minnesota's large diaspora, have grown resentful of Darud's rising influence in U.S. politics.
00:15:48.680For instance, when Nasri Warsayam, non-Darud, ran for office in Minneapolis back in 2021, Darud-aligned groups reportedly blocked him and supported an Indian-born woman instead, referring to a non-Somali over someone with a rival clan.
00:16:05.060This intra-clan rivalry has led Hawiye, Rahanwin, and Durr members, including those from Somaliland, which flies its own flag and seeks independence from Somalia, to back non-Somali candidates.
00:16:16.740They support Jewish incumbent Jacob Fry for a mayor over a Somali opponent from a different clan, prioritizing clan loyalty over ethnic or religious solidarity.
00:16:35.160Now, not that I doubt Steve Robinson's reporting, but I wanted to look into the case of Nasri Warsayam to see the details of how a non-Darud politician might be shut out by Darud-aligned groups.
00:16:48.880And just out of a morbid sense of curiosity, I wanted to get a sense of what happened here.
00:16:53.160And I came across this video, which, again, is subtitled.
00:16:55.540This is a former Minneapolis City Council candidate Nasri Warsayam's version of events, a version of what happened to him.
00:23:06.520For incubating all of this tribal warfare, what do we get?
00:23:10.320Well, we'll be defrauded, humiliated, and then discarded the moment we're not useful to these people.
00:23:18.740They'll either destroy each other, or they'll destroy us first.
00:23:21.520There's no other possible outcome if we allow this to continue.
00:23:26.560So we should not allow it to continue.
00:23:30.320Revoke Somalia's temporary protected status, which never should have been granted in the first place.
00:23:35.980We gave the designation to Somalia in the early 1990s because of the collapse of the failed authoritarian regime that Ilhan Omar's father worked for.
00:23:43.900And we've kept renewing it ever since.
00:24:23.280If we allow this favorable treatment to continue, then we're all going to get a very detailed clan by clan up close and personal history lesson as to why exactly countries like Somalia have torn themselves apart.
00:24:36.160And by that point, once we've all learned that lesson, we'll be left with nothing.
00:24:43.620And the Somalis, including Ilhan Omar, will have happily moved on to the next country.
00:24:48.440That they will strip mine, denigrate, and ultimately destroy.
00:25:17.300They make classic menswear with performance fabrics.
00:25:19.960So, looking sharp doesn't have to be a hassle.
00:25:21.700These guys actually invented the performance fabric dress shirt over 10 years ago, and they've been perfecting it ever since with modern fabrics that really deliver.
00:25:29.620Their shirts and pants look refined and professional.
00:25:42.740So, they completely did away with the worst part about dressing nice.
00:25:45.920As a busy guy with a family, that's a game-changer for me.
00:25:48.240The moment you put their clothes on, you feel the difference.
00:25:50.840You get that professional style without sacrificing comfort, whether you're in the office, traveling for work, or even just out on the weekend.
00:27:28.780And the best part, everything is on sale right now.
00:27:31.920My wife and I upgraded to Bowling Branch a while ago.
00:27:34.260I was genuinely surprised how obvious the quality difference was from our old sheets.
00:27:38.760We were so impressed with the quality that we also recently purchased their waffle blanket, and it's become a favorite with the family.
00:27:44.760I'm not worried that you won't love it, but if for whatever reason you don't, you can rest easy knowing that there is a 30-night money-back guarantee.
00:27:52.480Give yourself and your loved ones the most extraordinary feeling.
00:28:21.540Justin, man accused of throwing coins and shouting F for the Jews at Dave Portnoy inside a Mississippi pizza shop has been charged, according to TMZ.
00:28:30.36020-year-old Patrick McClintock has been arrested and charged with disturbing the peace.
00:28:40.740Every person has the right to feel safe and respected in our community.
00:28:44.280Offensive words alone are protected, but when behavior disrupts a public event or risks violence, the Starkville Police Department will take steps to help maintain safety and security.
00:28:53.780So, this guy's been arrested and charged with a crime, with disturbing the peace is the crime, for yelling F the Jews at Dave Portnoy when Portnoy was, I guess, in town doing one of his pizza review things.
00:29:06.840And this guy came up and yelled at him.
00:29:48.140First of all, obviously the kid is wrong, obviously, for behaving that way.
00:29:54.600It's gross, vulgar, crass, really stupid, and evil.
00:29:58.980And expressing hatred like that towards an entire group of people is evil.
00:30:03.520And this was, of course, unprovoked, not that it would be okay if it was provoked, but Portnoy was just doing a pizza review, and I don't think there was any prior confrontation at all with this guy.
00:31:31.560So, he was charged for yelling the words, the words, F the Jews.
00:31:36.680And the police sergeant said that he was disruptive and that Dave Portnoy has a right to feel safe and respected, quote unquote, in the community.
00:31:45.740So, that is the logic behind the charge.
00:31:50.600And there are some people who are celebrating the fact that this guy was hit with charges.
00:31:56.020They say that it's great that he was hit with the charges.
00:31:57.980There are others who are saying, well, this is an infringement on free speech.
00:32:01.540And so, they're taking kind of an absolutist free speech position that, hey, it's a horrible thing to say, but it's why we have free speech rights.
00:32:09.040You know, you don't need the First Amendment to protect things that everybody agrees with and everyone thinks they're good.
00:32:13.460You need it for the things that people find objectionable.
00:32:17.580So, that's kind of the two sides on this.
00:32:19.520And I'm looking at it from a different angle.
00:32:21.600Because I think in a vacuum, you could make a reasonable argument for either position.
