Today on the Matt Walsh Show, a group of Catholic schoolboys have been hideously defamed and
00:00:05.180
slandered and smeared all over the internet and the media. We are going to sort through this issue
00:00:10.820
and figure out who the real bad guys are in this situation. Also, a company responds to that stupid
00:00:17.320
Gillette ad with an ad of their own, which I think is pretty fantastic. And finally,
00:00:21.920
I'll answer some of your emails today on the Matt Walsh Show.
00:00:30.000
Hello and welcome, everybody. I missed you terribly since we last spoke. So thank you for
00:00:35.800
coming back here again. Hey, remember one thing really quickly, if you're watching on Facebook
00:00:40.960
right now, but you want to get the whole show, remember that you can subscribe on iTunes for
00:00:46.440
that or go to YouTube or become a premium subscriber to The Daily Wire, where you get this show and
00:00:52.400
lots of other great content as well. Okay, I want to get to a story that just absolutely
00:00:58.920
infuriates me. I can't tell you how angry I am by this. I've just been like stewing over it for
00:01:07.420
the last 24 hours. If you were on social media at all this weekend, you probably already heard about
00:01:12.880
it. If you were not on social media, maybe you didn't hear about it. And also, if you weren't on
00:01:16.920
social media this weekend, I think that you made a very good choice, a choice that I wish that I had
00:01:21.660
made. So the story revolves around a bunch of kids from Covington Catholic High School in Covington,
00:01:31.500
Kentucky. They were in DC for the March for Life, which of course happened on Friday. And there was
00:01:36.600
a great turnout for that, by the way. You're not going to hear about that from the media. We heard
00:01:42.500
plenty about this incident that we'll talk about, but very little about the hundreds and hundreds of
00:01:46.840
thousands of people that were marching for the unborn the day before. So these kids, they were
00:01:52.160
in DC for the March for Life on Friday. And then on Saturday, they were supposed to board their buses
00:01:58.460
and go back to Kentucky. So they were in downtown again, apparently waiting for their bus so they
00:02:04.620
could board and go home. Now, that's when the incident occurred. And the incident, according to the
00:02:12.520
initial media reports, involved only these kids and a group of Native Americans led by a guy named
00:02:18.980
Nathan Phillips. And the Native Americans were in DC for apparently an indigenous people's march,
00:02:24.500
which was happening the day after the March for Life. The original story went viral on Saturday.
00:02:30.340
And it was that the kids randomly swarmed this group of Native Americans and started berating and
00:02:40.060
heckling them and mocking them and taunting and threatening them, not letting them leave while the
00:02:46.880
Native Americans were simply just playing the drums and singing a spiritual song. So this was just a,
00:02:52.600
according to the initial story, which went viral, this was a straightforward, blatant case of,
00:02:59.760
you know, privileged white boys acting in an outlandishly racist manner. And that's what millions of
00:03:08.260
people believed. That's what the media reported. That's what many prominent folks on both sides of
00:03:13.760
the political aisle said. But I'll tell you, when I first heard the story, and look, this is not,
00:03:23.000
I'm not like spiking the football because a lot of people got this wrong and I didn't kind of thing.
00:03:27.680
I'm just saying, you know, here was my thought process, okay? Well, I did, I went online briefly on
00:03:33.700
Saturday. I heard about this story and my first thought was, uh, what? You know, it just, it didn't
00:03:41.620
make sense to me. Um, it didn't sound believable. I'm not saying that it sounded impossible, but it
00:03:47.640
didn't sound believable or necessarily plausible that a group of Catholic high school boys would
00:03:53.900
just randomly start berating Native Americans for no reason. That's the kind of thing that you think
00:04:00.500
is plausible. If you have a cartoonish idea of human nature and especially of white teenage boys,
00:04:06.340
but maybe it's because I used to be a white teenage boy. Um, and, uh, so I can think back to then and
00:04:15.160
it's just, I can't imagine like you're in DC with a bunch of your friends and then you see some Native
00:04:20.620
Americans over there and you say, Hey, let's go over there and taunt them guys. Come on. Hey fellas,
00:04:25.500
let's go do something racist. Um, that's just, it doesn't re I'm not saying that's impossible that
00:04:32.180
that could happen. It's just, it's just seems very, very unlikely. That's just not how people act.
00:04:38.660
Right. Uh, but there was allegedly video of the incident, uh, video that shows that's what the media
00:04:48.100
said. The media said the video shows high school boys harassing Native Americans. And, um, the video
00:04:56.420
was a short clip. It turns out of a much longer piece of footage. Of course, the longer piece of
00:05:02.260
footage didn't, didn't surface magically until like 24 hours later after the kids already had already
00:05:06.960
been getting death threats and were facing possible expulsion and had been denounced, um, hither and
00:05:12.660
beyond. So let me show you, this is what the short clip looked like. This is, this is the, the clip
00:05:18.700
that most people saw on Saturday and that engendered all of this outrage. Here it is.
00:05:33.560
I'm so good.
00:05:34.560
Okay. So a lot of people saw that video out of context and concluded that it definitely shows
00:06:00.780
high school boys harassing Native Americans. Um, I watched it on Saturday when there was,
00:06:08.900
well, there's footage. So I, I watched it and I, I didn't really, I didn't see it. I didn't see what
00:06:14.480
everyone was claiming even out of context. It just, I didn't see, it looks weird. It looks strange.
00:06:20.700
It looks like the kind of video that screams out of context. I mean, there might as well be a giant
00:06:28.140
neon sign in the background of the video saying, this is out of context because you see that and
00:06:35.540
you think there's gotta be more to that. Even if the, even if the boys are the bad guys here,
00:06:40.420
there's just, how did this even come up? What was the scenario where these two groups even met?
00:06:48.100
These are just obvious questions that people should ask. And very few people did. Um, also it was claimed
00:06:55.360
initially that the boys were chanting, build the wall at the Native Americans. Well, again, you watch
00:07:01.500
that clip of the video, you, they're not chanting that that's not, that's not in the video. Um, which
00:07:08.120
is, which should be a giant red flag, right? If, if there's a viral story saying that this or that
00:07:14.420
happened and Hey, there's a video to go with it and the video doesn't match up with the story.
00:07:20.220
Well, that's a red flag because it, again, it shows you that at the very least there's more to
00:07:26.780
this that didn't make it on the video. Um, so personally on Saturday I saw the video, I heard
00:07:33.380
the story. And so I just, I didn't say anything about it. I didn't, I didn't chime in. I gave no
00:07:37.540
opinion, uh, for or against the students because I had no idea what was going on. It seemed, you know,
00:07:42.940
it's possible that the kids were in the wrong, uh, but it, or maybe they, they aren't, but I just,
00:07:48.860
I had no idea. So I didn't say anything. Um, but there were a lot of people who felt like they did
00:07:54.400
have a pretty good idea. So these kids were slandered and defamed and doxxed and, uh, threatened
00:07:59.320
for a full 24 hours. And they were even denounced by the mayor of their town, denounced by millions
00:08:06.560
of others, including very prominent, uh, powerful, influential people in the media and celebrities
00:08:12.060
and so on. Before finally this full story emerges, a much longer video surfaced as usually happens
00:08:21.140
with these sorts of situations. Um, one of the longer videos is over an hour long and was shot
00:08:27.440
apparently by a member of a group called the black Hebrew Israelites. Now the black Hebrew Israelites
00:08:33.600
are a very important group in this whole situation, but nobody even heard about them until a day
00:08:40.820
later. And by the way, the, uh, the black Hebrew Israelites, the BHI will call them. They are
00:08:48.640
essentially cult members. They're radical fringe people who think that they're descendants of the
00:08:56.540
Israelites and, uh, they, they hate everyone. Okay. This is their whole shtick. They stand on street
00:09:01.080
corners and they shout slurs at random passersby. I've seen them myself downtown. I've been downtown and
00:09:06.600
seen these, uh, these people, you know, set up with their little display, just screaming at pedestrians
00:09:13.220
who were happened to be walking by, um, screaming offensive things oftentimes. So in the video,
00:09:19.200
their video, you hear them screaming insults at random. The video goes on for like an hour before
00:09:25.480
we even see the, uh, the students and they're screaming insults at random people for a while.
00:09:30.140
They even, they, they're even insulting native Americans. They call them, uh, idol worshipers,
00:09:35.000
totem pole worshipers, and these sorts of things. So they're insulting everyone. They're,
00:09:38.780
they're, they're shouting anti-gay slurs. I mean, these are, these are not, this is not the group
00:09:44.820
that, that you would think leftists would want to, um, would want to defend. Um, then finally,
00:09:52.940
this group of people, they set their sights on the white kids who were standing around waiting for the
00:09:57.860
bus, the Covington kids. And, uh, they, the, the black radicals start hurling insults at the kids,
00:10:05.720
calling them incest children, calling them crackers, uh, at other points, call them a future
00:10:11.980
school shooters, tell them they should go back to Europe. Um, they, um, as I said, they're using,
00:10:19.340
they're using anti-gay slurs, the F word, the, the gay slur F word. And so the kids
00:10:26.160
respond to this provocation by just kind of trying to drown out the slurs with, with laughter. And
00:10:36.720
they start doing these kinds of like pep rally style school cheers. And at one point, one of the
00:10:42.280
kids, I mean, you know, they're teenage boys. So one of the kids takes his shirt off and starts
00:10:46.340
kind of like dancing as if they're at a football, um, game or something like that. And so everyone,
00:10:51.700
they're, they're just, they all have smiles on their faces. They're doing their cheers, their school
00:10:54.800
cheers. Um, they're laughing and singing and sort of dancing, responding to the hate with positivity.
00:11:01.860
Now, this seems like if you're, you know, in that situation and you've got these people shouting
00:11:06.620
slurs at you, uh, that seems like a perfectly good way to respond. The point is they didn't respond
00:11:13.300
in kind. They didn't respond by shouting, uh, slurs, much less racial slurs back at the black Hebrew
00:11:22.980
Israelites. Instead, they just kind of, like I said, they try to drown it out. Um, this goes on for a
00:11:30.740
while until finally this native American group comes in. Uh, now remember the original story was that
00:11:39.920
the, the white kids, I guess, track down these native Americans, found them and surrounded them
00:11:46.640
and, and accosted them verbally. Um, but then you see the video and you see that the white kids are
00:11:53.440
in the process of being accosted, verbally accosted by the black Hebrew Israelites. And then the native
00:11:58.360
American group comes in and walks up to the white kids playing the drums in their faces. And while this
00:12:06.080
is happening, the black Israelites are still shouting slurs. Someone tells us that someone tells the kids
00:12:11.420
to go back to Europe and so on. Um, but the kids, they just continue their strategy of kind of keeping
00:12:17.040
it positive, staying above the fray. They're doing their school cheers. I never, I watched a video. I
00:12:22.100
watched the full video. I never heard anyone chant, build the wall. Maybe somebody said that, but there
00:12:27.160
was never a point where the whole group was shouting, build, build the wall, uh, which is what Nathan
00:12:31.280
Phillips claimed. And, um, and then that's the incident. Okay. So that's it. That's what happened.
00:12:36.960
It was provoked by the black Israelites who were racially harassing a group of white kids.
00:12:44.560
Then the native American group comes in and tries to provoke things even further. It's clear that
00:12:49.820
that's what they're doing. Now there are some people claiming now that, Oh, you know, they were
00:12:53.960
trying to settle things down. And really, that's how, that's how you deescalate a situation. You come
00:12:58.380
into the middle of it and start banging drums in the kids' faces. That's deescalation. No, it's very
00:13:05.080
clear to me watching it that the, what Nathan Phillips was trying to do was provoke them even
00:13:10.580
more. And actually he failed. And if there was any, if there was any doubt about what Nathan
00:13:19.360
Phillips, what his motivation was, well, all we have to do is look at what he said after the fact,
00:13:24.880
because after this whole incident that again, he inserted himself into, he immediately went to the,
00:13:31.920
to the media and blatantly lied about the situation. He called the white kids beasts.
00:13:37.500
Okay. You're not, you're not going to, you're not hearing this in the media. He called them beasts
00:13:40.520
and said that they were, they were harassing the group of black people. He painted the white kids
00:13:46.420
as the aggressors and the instigators in the situation. He said that he heroically put himself
00:13:52.080
in between beasts and their prey. And then he said in a separate interview that the kids surrounded him
00:13:58.180
and that they wouldn't let him leave. And he felt threatened. Uh, they said, he said they were
00:14:03.020
chanting, build the wall at him. These are just lies. Okay. Uh, they are lies contradicted by the video
00:14:09.660
evidence. He is a liar. This is a hands up, don't shoot level lie. Um, Nathan Phillips apparently is a
00:14:18.000
scam artist who played half the country. A bunch of people just fell for it. The media ate it up,
00:14:28.520
reported it as fact uncritically. And these kids have been smeared all over the internet and cable
00:14:35.540
news because of it. Uh, the main kid that was featured in the video, the one smiling at Phillips
00:14:41.520
wrote a statement and explained his side of the story. Here's the crucial thing. His side of the story
00:14:46.900
is exactly what the video shows. His side of the story lines up with what you see in the video.
00:14:53.700
The other version, the verb version we got from Phillips does not line up with the video evidence
00:14:59.120
and never did. Um, and also Phillips version of the story as a secondary issue doesn't line up with
00:15:07.600
common sense. So it doesn't even make sense. And also it doesn't work with the video, but then we have
00:15:12.560
the video and it just so happens that the reports we're getting from the kids matches up. So I think
00:15:17.520
we basically know what happened here. Okay. So what, what did we, what have we learned from this? I
00:15:24.480
think, uh, most people probably have learned absolutely nothing, but if you are a more observant
00:15:31.080
sort of person, what, um, what, what could you learn from this incident? I think a few things.
00:15:37.500
Number one, uh, and this is very important. Your social media hot take can wait for a day or two.
00:15:46.100
Uh, we all seem to be under this very mistaken impression that the world will like stop rotating
00:15:53.480
on its axis. If we don't immediately offer our own two cents on every event, the moment it transpires.
00:16:01.800
And there are many otherwise intelligent people who have made fools of themselves,
00:16:07.440
myself included in other cases, because they felt the need to voice an opinion on an issue,
00:16:12.800
um, as soon as it came to their attention without waiting to actually find out what happened.
00:16:18.360
But there isn't much good that can come of that. There is, there isn't really any good that can come
00:16:24.380
out of a, an opinion that's just sort of dashed off and published in a hurry as if to meet some sort
00:16:31.120
of deadline, uh, because you want to be in that first wave of opinion about something that happened
00:16:39.120
there. There's just, there's nothing good that can come of it. The most you can hope for is something
00:16:43.800
is neutral, that it will just have no effect, but there's no, there's no scenario where some sort of
00:16:50.320
really good thing happens because even if you're right in that first wave of opinion, even if you
00:16:58.360
happen to take the right point of view, which will be really just a matter of luck because you didn't,
00:17:04.760
you had no idea what the, what the, all the facts were. So you just happened to get it right.
00:17:08.840
But even if you're right, your perspective is redundant and useless because everyone else is
00:17:14.340
already saying that. That's the stupid thing about the mass outrage, um, that you see on the
00:17:20.420
internet, aside from any of the ethical or moral concerns, which are primary, but secondary, what's even
00:17:28.740
the point? Like if, if you see a video like this, even if, let's just say that, that, um, the video was
00:17:34.960
not misrepresented and these kids really are guilty of being racist, uh, obnoxious jerks.
00:17:41.960
And, you know, 10 million people have already chimed in saying, well, they're racist and obnoxious.
00:17:48.960
Why do you even need to be, why do you need to be the, the 10 million and one voice? 10 million
00:17:56.520
other people have already said it. So you need to say it too. Yes. I also agree that they are obnoxious.
00:18:02.160
Hey everybody, just so you know, I agree with what 10 million people have already said.
00:18:07.700
So at best, you're just repeating what everyone else has said. So your, your opinion is useless.
00:18:13.060
At worst, you are going to be a contributing member of, uh, of, uh, of mass hysteria. You are
00:18:20.860
going to be part of a pitchfork mob. So why not, why not wait? Everyone can survive without your
00:18:27.780
opinion for a few hours. Uh, everyone can survive without your opinion forever and without mine.
00:18:33.460
That's the other thing. None of our opinions actually matter that much. That's, I hate to,
00:18:38.240
I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you're, you've, you've never said anything on the
00:18:43.360
internet that really made that much of a difference. That's in me. I'm in the same camp. It's like,
00:18:47.520
nobody really cares that much anyway. Um, which just, which I'm not saying that it doesn't mean that
00:18:53.600
we should stop giving our, obviously I'm giving my opinion right now, but it doesn't mean we stop
00:18:57.700
giving our opinion, but it just means that you, you, we can all afford to wait for a minute
00:19:01.640
because it doesn't matter that much. Um, so you might as well hold off and, uh, uh, so that you
00:19:08.520
don't embarrass yourself. And also by the way, so that you don't participate in the defamation of an
00:19:14.080
innocent person accidentally. So there is no downside to taking your time before offering a point of
00:19:20.980
view. There is enormous downside to jumping the gun. Second thing. Uh, and you know, it's unfortunate
00:19:28.120
that this even needs to be said, or that this is a lesson that needs to be learned by anyone, by anyone,
00:19:32.140
but, but white teenage boys are not evil. Okay. Again, like I said, I'm not spiking the football.
00:19:40.820
I've spoken too soon on many other occasions, but I held my tongue on this one when I first heard about it,
00:19:49.280
mainly because I know that, that white teenage boys don't generally behave like the villains in
00:19:57.700
some sort of socially conscious cartoon. Okay. They're not cartoon villains. Maybe you'll come
00:20:03.560
across a white, a white guy, a white teenage boy here or there who does really act like that, but,
00:20:10.280
but most of them are not. And what are the chances that you're going to have a whole school filled
00:20:18.140
with racist sociopaths who all happen to be, you know, they all went on a field trip together.
00:20:22.860
Well, what are the chances of that? It just, it seems like very unlikely. Um, but a lot of people
00:20:29.620
had no problem accepting the narrative that was first presented because they really do think,
00:20:34.940
or at least want to think that white boys carry on this way routinely. Um, and these are mostly the
00:20:42.660
same people who ate up all the rumors about Kavanaugh because they wanted to believe they
00:20:49.240
desperately wanted to believe that privileged white teenagers go around casually gang raping women
00:20:55.220
for sport. But again, with that, it was, it was, yes, I'm, there are white teenage boys out there who
00:21:03.260
are that evil. Um, but the idea that you would have a whole group of teen teenage boys who coordinate
00:21:13.820
with each other to drug and rape women. It's just, it's not impossible, but that is a remarkable claim.
00:21:23.100
Um, which would require some kind of really compelling evidence with Kavanaugh. There was no evidence
00:21:32.460
and with this, uh, with this most recent incident with the teenagers, there was a little bit of
00:21:38.140
evidence, but the evidence didn't line up with the claim. Um, so these false narratives, you know,
00:21:45.320
they tell us nothing about white teenage boys, about young white men. They do tell us a lot about
00:21:51.340
the members of the pitchfork mob. Namely, it tells us that these people, the people in the pitchfork mob,
00:21:57.420
they hate white men, hate them, especially young ones and especially Christian ones.
00:22:04.380
And that's why, um, they were so eager to jump on this because this is really, this shows you,
00:22:09.940
this is what they think of a, of a, of a young white man. This is what they think a young white man is.
00:22:18.380
So they heard this story about the Covington kids and they thought to themselves, oh yeah, well, sure.
00:22:22.600
That's exactly what white teenage boys do all the time. And that's why it's, it's been, it's been
00:22:29.820
pretty incredible over the last 24 hours or so, as this, as the full story has emerged, as it's become
00:22:35.840
clear that, um, that this was a false narrative, that Nathan Phillips lied and so on, there had still
00:22:43.360
been plenty of people who are clinging, who are acknowledging that, um, that there's more to the
00:22:49.220
story now, but they're still clinging to their initial reaction, um, or at least justifying their
00:22:56.760
initial reaction on the, in fact, just to, to quote here, there was someone, uh, one person on Twitter
00:23:02.380
said that, um, you know, she said her reaction, she had that reaction because, um, the, the sight of that
00:23:11.740
face, talking about one of the teens, the teenage boy who was smiling, she said, the sight of that
00:23:17.160
face caused a visceral reaction. So she's admitting that just the sight of a, of a young white man's
00:23:25.580
face is so repulsive to her and so offensive that she can't help but defame and slander him. It's just,
00:23:33.280
it's a, it is a knee jerk reaction. It's a reflex. She's saying that tells you a lot about her.
00:23:40.400
It tells you absolutely nothing about the, um, about the boys in question though.
00:23:46.200
Third thing we can learn is that the media really is the enemy of the people. Uh, I think Trump was
00:23:52.840
right about that. The news media is the enemy of the people, certain types of people anyway, maybe
00:23:58.140
that's where he got it wrong. He said the people, um, but not all people, only certain types of people,
00:24:03.940
because if you happen to be a member of the wrong demographic, the media will eagerly spread
00:24:10.280
lies about you. They will destroy your life. They will send the mob to your front door. They will
00:24:15.120
try to get you kicked out of school, kicked out of your job. They'll incite threats against your
00:24:18.820
family. They will tear you to pieces if you are a member of the wrong sort of demographic group
00:24:24.660
and you, and you come to their attention. They will not hesitate to do that to you. So what else can
00:24:32.800
we call them, but enemies? I mean, this certainly isn't how friends or allies behave last I checked.
00:24:40.380
So I am a white Christian conservative man. They are obviously my enemy, not because I want them to
00:24:47.520
be. I'm not saying, or maybe I should rephrase it. I am their enemy and they have made that completely
00:24:55.000
clear. If there was any kind of video or anything that gave them a video like this or any kind of video
00:25:01.320
that gave them, uh, an excuse, a reason, the ability to destroy my life, they would not hesitate to do
00:25:09.340
it. But if I was a member of a different demographic group, uh, or if my politics were a little bit
00:25:16.080
different, they would hesitate. So I am there. They see me as an enemy. There's just, there's no getting
00:25:23.180
around that. And here's the fourth thing. And this is really important. Um, this is less of a lesson
00:25:28.860
and more of a warning. Somebody is going to get killed. Okay. It's only a matter of time before a
00:25:38.520
victim of one of these media led smear campaigns winds up dead. It's going to happen. Um, and what,
00:25:46.660
what, what, what will the inciters and orchestrators of the outrage mob say then? What are they going to
00:25:52.460
say? Are they going to say, Oh, we had no idea it would come to this. Well, yes, you did. When you
00:25:58.200
put a person's name and face out there and you tell the world these outlandish, outlandish lies
00:26:04.960
about them, what do you think is going to happen? You are basically lighting a match in a forest full
00:26:11.220
of dry dead leaves. And if somebody finally gets burned, that's your fault. And I can only hope when
00:26:20.580
that terrible day comes that at least a few of the smear merchants will end up in jail because this
00:26:25.620
is, you know, this is incitement. This is not free speech. And in the meantime, and hopefully to stave
00:26:33.920
off this, this very tragic, but I think inevitable eventuality, we need some, you know, there need to
00:26:41.120
be repercussions, which means that because unfortunately most of the people who are targeted in these
00:26:47.720
situations like these, like these school kids, they don't have a lot of resources. All right. These
00:26:53.400
are not, these are not necessarily going to be millionaires. So there need to be ethical and
00:27:01.040
generous lawyers who are willing to jump in and, and come to the defense of the victims pro bono
00:27:06.840
and sue the defamers and inciters into oblivion. News outlets that run defamatory and libelous reports
00:27:14.720
about innocent people should face severe consequences. Celebrities like Kathy Griffin,
00:27:20.400
who encouraged her fans to retaliate against these boys, encourage them to dox him, which is,
00:27:28.560
you know, dig up, uh, private information about him and put it out there on the internet, invade his
00:27:33.480
privacy, uh, influential, powerful people who do stuff like that. They should be bankrupted by lawsuits.
00:27:40.300
Um, not, as I said, this has nothing to do with free speech. This is libel. It's, this is incitement.
00:27:49.160
It's illegal. And that's how it should be treated. Um, and if we don't start treating it that way,
00:27:56.820
you know, things are, things are going to get really bad and there are going to be very serious
00:28:01.660
consequences. Uh, I should say permanent consequences for somebody one of these days.
00:28:07.820
All right. Um, I didn't want to, I wanted to mention this very quickly as we, we spent a lot
00:28:17.520
of last week talking about that Gillette ad, which was, um, insulting to, to men. So this is kind of
00:28:26.720
in the same vein. This is all, it's all part of the same, part of the same theme. Um, but a watch
00:28:32.800
company, I was, I was waiting. I knew that some company would do this. I was waiting. I didn't know
00:28:36.320
which company would be the first. I've never heard of this company. Eggert Watch Company put out
00:28:41.240
an ad on YouTube, um, responding to that infamous Gillette ad. And, uh, I think it's pretty good.
00:28:47.860
Here it is.
00:28:48.320
What is a man? Is a man brave? Is a man a hero? Is a man, is a man a protector?
00:29:18.320
Naughty side. Is a man, is a man? Is a man, is
00:29:39.660
a man disposable?
00:29:44.200
As a man broken, is a man trying.
00:30:13.640
We see the good in men.
00:30:26.440
Okay, I mean, I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this because I've said plenty.
00:30:39.740
I said probably way more than enough about an ad about a company that makes razors.
00:30:47.040
So I'll say I like that ad, and you see very clearly the difference there.
00:30:51.340
Building men up, building up their customer base, which is a smart marketing idea, but
00:30:59.580
just in general, building men up, a positive message.
00:31:03.440
That's also encouraging and challenging.
00:31:05.840
Saying, you know, this is what a man is.
00:31:10.760
A man is courageous.
00:31:12.600
A man's a hero.
00:31:13.540
A man sacrifices, right?
00:31:15.020
Which is also a challenge to us as men.
00:31:23.000
Now, personally, I don't think that, I don't feel like I need to be built up or challenged
00:31:29.940
by commercials regardless.
00:31:32.260
But I do appreciate commercials that do it well and have a positive tone, and that's
00:31:37.440
what you find there.
00:31:38.140
So there's a challenge there, but it's in a positive context, saying this is what a man
00:31:43.040
is, and so if you're a man, that's how you should be.
00:31:47.280
But the thing is, they don't need to say that last part.
00:31:50.020
They don't need to say the part of, this is what you should do.
00:31:53.120
That's already implied through the kind of inspirational message.
00:31:58.640
So I thought that was great.
00:32:00.400
All right.
00:32:02.080
So I've decided that I'm going to try and go to the mailbag, the inbox, I'll call it,
00:32:08.080
just to be unique.
00:32:10.240
I'll go to the inbox every show, if I remember to anyway, just to give more people kind of
00:32:15.480
a chance to chime in and participate.
00:32:17.400
So if you want to send an email to me to give your opinion or ask a question or whatever,
00:32:22.560
send an email to mattwalshshow at gmail.com.
00:32:26.680
And also, if you have inquiries about speaking engagements or media requests or anything,
00:32:30.300
also mattwalshshow at gmail.com.
00:32:32.820
Okay.
00:32:33.060
So let me check.
00:32:34.240
I got a lot of messages and things over the weekend.
00:32:38.480
I'll check the inbox.
00:32:39.760
Jennifer says, Matt, wanted to let you know you are ugly inside and out.
00:32:46.100
Jennifer, I thank you for that valuable feedback.
00:32:48.580
Rebecca says, hi, Matt.
00:32:49.500
I love listening to your opinions.
00:32:50.540
I always look forward to a new video of yours to come out.
00:32:53.100
I'm a sophomore in an all-girls Catholic high school, and many of my friends, teachers,
00:32:57.880
and even priests have made comments implying or outright saying that they are against organized
00:33:02.960
religion.
00:33:03.840
Could you make a video defending organized religion, especially the Catholic Church, from
00:33:07.180
such criticism?
00:33:08.660
Thank you.
00:33:10.980
Well, Rebecca, thanks.
00:33:12.140
I have spoken about this in detail.
00:33:13.940
I've written about it other places, so I'm not going to go into, you know, you could find
00:33:19.180
that if you Google it, I think.
00:33:21.400
I will say that the backlash against so-called organized religion is the result of many things,
00:33:26.960
I think.
00:33:27.940
But primarily, it's shallow thinking, especially if you have a priest who's against organized
00:33:34.380
religion when he's a member of one.
00:33:36.120
But really, for anyone, for any Christian who says, oh, you know, I don't like organized
00:33:40.940
religion.
00:33:41.600
It's relationship, not religion.
00:33:43.620
If these folks stop to think about what they're saying for just a minute, they would realize
00:33:48.940
that it doesn't make any sense.
00:33:50.140
Because religion in this context means, by definition, a belief in and worship of a supernatural
00:33:57.200
being.
00:33:57.900
Now, you can have religions without supernatural beings, but if there is a supernatural being
00:34:04.120
and you worship that being, that's a religion.
00:34:07.460
That's what a religion is, okay?
00:34:08.920
So, if Christianity is a religion, you can't say, well, it's not a religion.
00:34:13.600
Yes, it absolutely...
00:34:14.940
You may as well claim that an elephant isn't a mammal.
00:34:18.220
No, an elephant is many other things as well, but it is definitely a mammal.
00:34:22.160
You can't just come up with a new definition for it.
00:34:24.520
Christianity is absolutely, by definition, a religion.
00:34:29.260
So, the only question is, will it be an organized religion or a disorganized one?
00:34:35.560
Those are the only two options.
00:34:37.300
There is no option of Christianity not being a religion, because if you take the religion
00:34:41.560
out of Christianity, then you're taking the worship of a supernatural being out of Christianity.
00:34:46.340
So, then you've just taken Christianity out of Christianity.
00:34:49.660
So, it's going to be a religion.
00:34:51.100
Will it be organized or will it be disorganized?
00:34:55.440
So, someone who says, I don't like organized religion, though I'm a Christian, what they're
00:34:58.980
really saying is, I prefer a more disorganized, chaotic, confused version of Christianity,
00:35:06.860
which, you know, I'm not really sure I see the plus side to that.
00:35:13.140
And, in fact, that is sort of what we have in American culture right now.
00:35:18.520
We have a very disorganized, fractured into a million pieces kind of Christianity where,
00:35:25.300
you know, everyone believes is kind of making it up as they go along, makes up their own
00:35:30.660
doctrines on the fly.
00:35:31.780
So, that is what a disorganized Christianity looks like, and there is nothing positive
00:35:37.240
to be said about it.
00:35:42.000
Chris writes, hi, Matt.
00:35:43.580
I wanted to share something with you in regards to your thoughts on the Gillette ad.
00:35:46.260
First off, I agree with you 100%.
00:35:47.800
The ad was an insult.
00:35:48.740
I found it very offensive.
00:35:49.720
My wife disagreed and told me it was fine to call out all these bad things so men can behave
00:35:53.660
correctly.
00:35:54.500
I explained to her that there's nothing wrong with saying these behaviors need to stop,
00:35:58.180
but the ad made it seem like the majority of men brush off this stuff with boys will be
00:36:02.480
boys, when most men I know have never even said that phrase.
00:36:07.100
Now, here's the interesting part.
00:36:08.440
Today, I was coaching my son's baseball team, and my older son accidentally hurt another boy
00:36:12.580
while playing around.
00:36:13.880
My son immediately apologized, and I apologized to the mother.
00:36:17.880
The mother was very understanding and then said, boys will be boys.
00:36:21.480
It was then that it hit me.
00:36:22.540
It wasn't that I never heard that statement before.
00:36:25.000
It was that I've mostly heard it from women in my lifetime.
00:36:28.180
Immediately after the game, I told my wife what happened and explained again why the
00:36:31.480
ad was hurtful to men.
00:36:32.380
The majority of the time, it's women who say the phrase, which is, I thought that was
00:36:39.080
interesting because when I thought about it, and as I said last week, this is a phrase
00:36:43.740
that I very rarely hear anyone say unironically, and I never have ever heard anyone say it to
00:36:50.200
justify some clearly wrong behavior in a boy.
00:36:53.500
But of the times when I've heard it used in a sincere way, it is very often women who
00:37:00.740
say it, and justifiably so, because usually boys will be boys just has to do with boys
00:37:06.560
kind of roughhousing and being active and energetic and that sort of thing.
00:37:14.240
Kevin says, what's it like being an uneducated bigot?
00:37:17.060
I don't know, Kevin.
00:37:17.900
You tell me.
00:37:18.440
Jordan writes, Matt, on the Covington Catholic School Kids issue, you may be right that the
00:37:22.880
issue was misconstrued.
00:37:24.280
You may be right that Phillips lied, but still, they were disrespectful and obnoxious, and
00:37:28.920
they deserve the criticism.
00:37:30.680
I feel like you're just trying to be a contrarian by defending them.
00:37:33.520
Lost some respect for you today, and I say this as a fan.
00:37:40.160
Disrespectful and obnoxious.
00:37:41.200
Now, you tell me, what's the protocol here?
00:37:44.760
What are they supposed to do?
00:37:46.860
These kids, again, they were just standing there.
00:37:49.480
They're being harassed and verbally assaulted by this black radical group.
00:37:57.240
And then this Native American group marches in and starts playing a drum in their face.
00:38:02.180
How are you supposed to react?
00:38:05.100
When I looked at that video, you know the main thing I saw on the faces of these kids?
00:38:08.580
And there's been a lot of, a lot of people have had a lot to say about the facial expressions
00:38:13.060
of these white kids, especially the one, the main one featured in the video, and how he's
00:38:18.380
smiling and everything.
00:38:19.460
And people are making a lot out of that.
00:38:21.240
But the main thing that I see is they're just, they're perplexed.
00:38:25.320
What I see is confusion.
00:38:27.740
They don't know what the hell is going on.
00:38:29.580
And they're just, so they're kind of, it's a nervous sort of laughter.
00:38:33.560
It's the kind of thing you do where you're like, okay, it was that kind of smile.
00:38:40.260
As in, why is this guy coming in here and playing the drum in my face exactly?
00:38:44.180
Who are these people over here shouting all this stuff about, about, you know, it was,
00:38:50.660
they were confused.
00:38:52.280
So how are you supposed to react?
00:38:54.280
If you were in that exact situation, Jordan, and, but you had never heard of this before,
00:39:02.400
so you weren't prepared for it, what would you do?
00:39:05.260
Were they supposed to lie down in the fetal position?
00:39:07.520
Were they supposed to bow down and in worship?
00:39:11.200
I mean, what are they supposed to do?
00:39:12.860
And I will, I will also say that I believe completely in respecting your elders, but this
00:39:18.420
guy, it appears to me, was trying to provoke these kids.
00:39:20.780
And then he went and turned around, called them beasts and lied about them.
00:39:24.460
So this is not a man who is worthy of very much respect.
00:39:28.980
Because, you know, you can, you can lose your right to respect.
00:39:33.120
And when you lie and slander and defame somebody and try to manipulate and coerce a situation
00:39:38.940
and all that, you just, you're, you're, you're just not worthy of that much respect.
00:39:42.640
I'm sorry.
00:39:43.360
It's got nothing to do with you being native Americans.
00:39:45.200
It just has to do with you being a liar.
00:39:49.000
And finally, Mitchell writes, Matt, I saw you kissing Tom Brady's butt on Twitter.
00:39:53.680
Not literally.
00:39:54.580
You didn't see that.
00:39:55.560
I thought I admired you, but now I have to reconsider.
00:39:57.880
Worst take I've ever seen.
00:39:59.300
Brady is an overrated cheater.
00:40:01.200
Look, I'm sorry.
00:40:01.920
I hate the Patriots with a passion and I don't like Tom Brady, but what Tom Brady is doing,
00:40:09.240
no player in the NFL has ever done anything like this.
00:40:12.980
This is, this is the greatest NFL player to ever play the game without a doubt.
00:40:18.960
There's not even a discussion anymore.
00:40:20.520
There's no one else who you could possibly put in this category because no other NFL player
00:40:26.840
dominated to this extent for two decades.
00:40:30.940
Now, some of the other great QBs you can think of were very dominant for, you know, seven or
00:40:37.640
eight years, sometimes a decade, but two decades.
00:40:40.920
Tom Brady came into the league, I think in 2003, it's now 2019.
00:40:44.780
That's almost two entire decades.
00:40:46.980
And he's going to his, uh, to yet another Superbowl.
00:40:50.420
Um, so to, to be this good for this long against this level of competition.
00:40:57.780
Now you might, I know you might say the AFC East is a pretty weak division and it is, but
00:41:02.080
just in general in the NFL, the athletes are so good.
00:41:05.700
Um, so everyone you're playing against is really, really good these days.
00:41:09.260
It's not like, it's not like the NFL in the sixties when, uh, you'd be playing a bunch
00:41:14.200
of, uh, against a bunch of just sort of like ordinary dad type people.
00:41:19.120
Um, no, these days, these are just athletic machines that you're playing against.
00:41:24.660
And so for Tom Brady to be this good for that long, it's, it is the only other professional
00:41:30.360
athlete that is maybe as impressive as Tom Brady is, uh, LeBron James, who again, there's
00:41:38.000
really no discussion there anymore.
00:41:39.620
Um, he's obviously the best basketball player to ever, ever play the game.
00:41:44.540
And I'm sure we can all agree on that.
00:41:48.060
We'll leave it there.
00:41:48.900
Thanks for watching everybody.
00:41:49.980
Thanks for listening.
00:41:51.060
Uh, Godspeed.
00:41:58.420
Today on the Ben Shapiro show, Buzzfeed's big Trump scoop implodes the media botcha hit
00:42:03.320
on Christian high school students and the media try to target me with selective editing.
00:42:07.280
That's today on the Ben Shapiro show.
