00:02:53.340Our nation, more than any other in history, was shaped by this Christian idea.
00:02:58.620This is who we are, and from the beginning, we have carried the belief that our country
00:03:04.200represents something new in the world.
00:03:06.980the soul of our nation, has always been rooted in an ancient faith.
00:03:17.380So all the Pride Month depravity, which the previous State Department tried to explore
00:03:23.120to every corner of the earth, was really, of course, a direct assault on the Christian
00:03:28.640history and lineage of this country that Marco Rubio just outlined. As we know, the goal of
00:03:35.000leftist ideology is not to create anything coherent or functional. They don't want so much
00:03:39.920to produce a new set of rules for governing an orderly society or ensuring human flourishing,
00:03:44.940but rather to destroy the rules and sources of human flourishing already established.
00:03:50.040Their followers, in addition to being profane and nihilistic, are obsessed with grievance and
00:03:54.900weakness and narcissism and shame. They complain endlessly. They melt down at even the slightest
00:03:59.760criticism. They try to ruin people's lives when they step out of line. They give themselves the
00:04:05.600powers of gods, but at some level, they understand it's all fraudulent. It's an act and not a very
00:04:10.720convincing one. And that's why for all their talk about pride, they're, as we know, clearly
00:04:15.940miserable people. Now, on the other hand, the message of Christianity is very different. It's0.64
00:04:21.480the diametric opposite. In fact, it's a religion that teaches not only about mercy, but justice.
00:04:29.760virtue and preaches the promise of salvation. At its core, this is obviously inherently a hopeful
00:04:36.240message. Any sinner can be saved. And every great man of American history, without exception,
00:04:43.000understood this. Our government leaders should not be shy about saying it either, and historically,
00:04:49.500they haven't been. Now, the occasion for this video from the State Department is something
00:04:53.360called International Religious Freedom Day, which was created in 1998 through a law that was passed
00:04:59.740during the Clinton administration, and although it progressed through Congress because of Christian
00:05:04.980persecution all over the world, Clinton himself, of course, insisted that the law had nothing to do
00:05:10.240with Christianity in particular. He stated the goal was, quote, to promote the religious freedom
00:05:15.280of people of all backgrounds, whether Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist,
00:05:21.060or any other faith. So this is the kind of leadership we've been used to for some time.
00:05:26.720our politicians balk at the idea of promoting Christianity in any way.
00:05:31.900So it's just another faith along with all the others, they say.
00:05:35.900You know, sending the message, of course, that Christianity has
00:05:38.160no particular relevance to America.0.57
00:05:41.120We're supposed to take seriously the idea, the fantasy that Taoism and like Sikhism0.69
00:05:47.540are somehow just as crucial to the American identity as the religion, Christianity,
00:05:51.920that quite literally built the country.
00:05:54.180And so it's just totally false, as we'll discuss in a moment.
00:05:58.460But it's also ironic in this case, given that the whole idea of International Religious Freedom Day is to celebrate religious freedom, as the name suggests, which exists because of Christianity.
00:06:11.020In fact, the first person in Western history to use the words freedom of religion, as far as we know, was a Christian apologist in North Africa named Tertullian.
00:06:23.320This is from the Russell Kirk Center in Michigan.
00:06:25.300Quote, Tertullian, the 2nd century North African convert, is most famous today for his observation about the blood of the martyrs being the seed of the church.
00:06:35.400At a time of harsh, if sporadic, persecution, Tertullian argued that Rome should allow Christians to exercise their faith because religious freedom was an essential component of human nature.
00:06:45.920It is only just and a privilege inherent in human nature, he wrote in his Apology,
00:06:50.600that every person should be able to worship according to his own convictions.
00:06:54.380For one person's religion neither harms nor hurts another.
00:06:58.660Sixteen centuries later, Jefferson would write something remarkably similar in notes on the state of Virginia.
00:07:04.120It does me no injury for my neighbor to say that there are 20 gods or no god.
00:07:08.160Historian Robert Louis Wilkin notes that Jefferson had a copy of the Apology in his personal library
00:07:13.060and marked the passage about religious freedom.
00:07:17.240So for many reasons, it was appropriate for Rubio State Department
00:07:20.320to release this video for International Religious Freedom Day.
00:07:24.000Even if you're a godless communist,1.00
00:07:26.580you should be able to admit that Christians deserve credit
00:07:29.340as pioneers in the field of religious freedom
00:10:39.480It's impossible for the promotion of the Christian gospel to be anything but a wonderful thing.
00:10:46.800Promoting a false gospel is bad, but if you are promoting the actual Christian gospel,0.90
00:10:52.940then it's a good thing, always and everywhere.
00:10:57.940And this goes to show how the two sides of the ideological divide live, not just in different countries, but different universes.
00:11:03.780If you needed yet more evidence of that, you know, to Weird Wiener and his weird followers, a phrase like promoting the Christian gospel has, you know, the exact opposite connotation.
00:11:16.880It's not something that automatically is good to them.
00:11:19.060They see it as inherently bad in all contexts.
00:11:21.640and so much so that he doesn't even need to explain why it's bad or include any other commentary about
00:11:29.640it. He could just say they're promoting the Christian gospel. And to his followers, they
00:11:34.940immediately see that as obviously bad. To him, saying they're promoting the Christian gospel
00:11:40.500is akin to saying they're drowning puppies in the river. You don't feel the need to explain
00:11:47.860why you oppose it. It's just obviously terrible. That's how they see it.
00:11:51.640Christianity to Scott Wiener is like garlic to a vampire.
00:11:55.980But you have to wonder if this guy knows anything about American history,
00:11:59.800which he doesn't, or if he cares, which he also doesn't,
00:12:03.500because he seemed shocked by the idea that the government would ever promote Christianity in any way.
00:12:08.460Meanwhile, for most of American history, especially at the founding,
00:20:07.380Go to GOPVotes.org, find your polling place, and bank your vote today.
00:20:11.180If you live in the critical Senate battleground states of Alaska, Michigan, Maine, Ohio, Iowa, or Texas, early voting is already underway this week.
00:20:19.700The radical left has won Democrat primaries across the country, and their turnout machine is ready to swarm the polls this fall.
00:20:25.980That's why you need a plan to vote, too.
00:21:40.720To the extent that anyone opposed Grant's peace policy,
00:21:43.680it was coming from the corrupt senators who wanted to retain their control over these agencies.
00:21:48.080It was also coming from people who wanted to eliminate the Indians entirely instead of negotiating with them and managing them.
00:21:54.060But it was not a First Amendment issue.
00:21:56.840Now, admittedly, it's true that thanks to unrestricted mass migration, we now have far fewer Christians in this country than ever before as a total, as a percentage of the population.
00:22:06.600The overwhelming majority of people living in the United States are Christian, but the percentage has been declining.0.96
00:23:06.400There's even something called the Sundays Accepted Clause in the Constitution, which
00:23:10.420states that the president has 10 days to veto a bill accepting Sundays because Sunday is
00:23:16.440the Christian said. And these are things that you're never told in school, and therefore leftists
00:23:21.460don't know any of this, or if they do know it, they deny it. Along those lines, here's how a guy
00:23:25.880named Jacob, who apparently has a hockey podcast or something, responded to Rubio's video. He
00:23:32.760specifically is referring to the idea that America was shaped by the Christian tradition.
00:23:37.960And he writes, quote, no, the actual F it wasn't. Holy. In fact, the exact opposite is true.0.80
00:23:46.100It should be terrifying to everyone that a nation founded on religious freedom and the separation of church and state is touting this ideology.
00:23:54.580Now, first of all, as we've discussed before, the term separation of church and state is nowhere in the Constitution.
00:23:59.640It comes from an 1802 letter that Thomas Jefferson privately wrote to some Baptists in Connecticut.
00:24:05.520He was trying to convey the idea that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, which is not remotely controversial.
00:24:12.440He wasn't establishing any kind of, you know, bar on the government promoting religion.
00:24:18.780And he was far more concerned about the government's toxic effect on religion than on religion's effect on the government.
00:24:26.060So his point in many ways was the opposite of what, you know, midwits like Jacob here will say.
00:24:31.580As much as I'm hesitant to bust out Google's Ngram viewer again, this is actually a useful tool.
00:24:36.700They scan books and historical texts going back centuries, and they look for key terms and how they became popular or less popular with time.
00:24:46.100And as you might remember from our Real History episode on the Indians, the Ngram viewer showed that the term Trail of Tears only became popular in the 1960s, long after the Trail of Tears supposedly occurred.
00:24:59.420It was largely an invention of activists in the civil rights era who wanted to use the alleged plight of Indians to demand concessions from the Nixon administration.
00:25:07.540So in the same vein, here is the Ngram viewers accounting of the use of the term separation of church and state over the years.
00:25:17.960And as you can see, it was basically non-existent.
00:25:21.340There's one little spike there in the 1830s, but basically non-existent until about the late 1950s and 1960s.
00:25:28.1801960s. And now it's everywhere. People became convinced that separation of church and state
00:25:33.320was a real idea that our founders came up with and based our system of government on,0.93
00:25:39.380largely because of a series of very dumb left-wing Supreme Court decisions.
00:25:44.800But there was never any historical basis for believing this. It's yet another modern fiction0.96
00:25:48.400invented during the hysteria of the 1960s, back at a time when a lot of historical fictions were
00:25:54.680being invented. Now, we'll read one more reaction to Rubio's video, just to illustrate how desperately
00:26:00.360unhinged and wrong these people are. This one comes from a non-profit called the Freedom
00:26:04.380from Religion Foundation. It says, quote, Christianity's global spread was marked by
00:26:11.060colonialism, forced conversions, destruction of indigenous cultures, and religious persecution.
00:26:16.180International Religious Freedom Day should celebrate the freedom to believe or not believe,
00:26:20.060not the spread of Christianity. Now, putting aside the fact that the spread of pretty much0.96
00:26:25.900every major religion has been marked by colonialism and the destruction of cultures,0.97
00:26:31.140Islam in particular, that would be true of. And also putting aside the fact that Christians were1.00
00:26:36.620the first people to advocate for religious freedom in the West. Putting all that aside,
00:26:41.420it's necessary to respond head on to this objection by affirming that colonialism and
00:26:46.740the destruction of indigenous cultures was good, actually. And if you don't understand why, we have
00:26:52.520several real history episodes that go into great detail on this topic. These so-called cultures
00:26:59.020were barbaric. They were unsustainable. They were violent and savage. They led in every single case0.97
00:27:05.620to widespread death and horrors beyond human comprehension. To the extent that Christians1.00
00:27:11.220intervened forcefully to put an end to this misery, they created the conditions necessary0.99
00:27:15.560for civilization to flourish today. They created conditions that allow religious freedom
00:27:22.000in the modern era. Without colonization, these primitive people would either be dead or they'd0.99
00:27:28.960still be ripping each other's hearts out to appease the sun god. As the saying goes, the Aztecs were1.00
00:27:34.580famously good at open heart surgery. They just couldn't figure out how to put the heart back in,
00:27:38.800was the idea. And every single person who complains today about the Christian colonialists
00:27:44.220is much, much happier and much freer and more comfortable than they would be had the Christian0.97
00:27:50.760colonialists never existed. That again is inarguable. Without Christianity and without0.97
00:27:56.940Christian colonialism and imperialism in particular, your life would be significantly worse0.98
00:28:02.740if you existed at all, which you probably wouldn't. And again, that's just a fact.0.99
00:28:09.180Really though, the idea of Religious Freedom Day is not the main issue here. This is a fake holiday
00:28:13.560that was created by Clinton in 1998, so who really cares? The main issue is that more Americans need
00:28:19.960to understand that we, in fact, are a Christian nation, and we should devote more government
00:28:25.360resources towards spreading Christianity and benefiting Christians in particular.
00:28:30.680We're allowed to do that. We have an upcoming Real History episode on colonization that goes
00:28:35.060into great detail on this point, and one of the main sources we use is Samuel Huntington's book
00:28:40.820called Who Are We? It's one of the strongest arguments you'll find in support of the idea
00:28:45.480that America is a Christian nation. There's plenty of amazing details in there, which you don't often
00:28:51.720hear in schools, which we'll cover in the documentary. One of his more interesting insights
00:28:55.380is that the founders were interested in prohibiting state religions, not because they wanted to live
00:29:01.300in a Reddit-style atheist dystopia, but because they wanted to create the conditions for religion
00:29:07.380to grow, expand, and ultimately dominate American culture and political life. So this is from the
00:29:14.280book, page 85 or so. And here's what it says, quote, a republic can only be supported by pure
00:29:22.220religion or austere morals. John Adams said the Bible offers the only system that ever did or
00:29:27.880ever will preserve a republic in the world. Our constitution was made only for a moral and
00:29:32.900religious people. Washington agreed. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national0.98
00:29:39.480morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles. Fifty years after the Constitution
00:29:44.420was adopted, Tocqueville reported that all Americans held religion to be indispensable
00:29:49.100to the maintenance of Republican institutions. This opinion is not peculiar to a class of
00:29:54.220citizens or to a party, but it belongs to the whole nation and to every rank of society.
00:29:58.940The words separation of church and state do not appear in the Constitution, and as Sidney Mead pointed out, Madison spoke not of church and state, European concepts with little relevance to America, but of sex and civil authority, and the line, not the wall between them.
00:30:13.380The prohibition of an established national religion and the gradual disestablishment of state religions promoted the growth of religion in society.
00:30:21.080As the state's authority and religion faded, John Butler notes, denominational authority expanded,
00:30:26.000leading to the single most important institutional development of post-revolutionary Christianity,
00:30:30.540the shift of religious authority away from the state toward the voluntary institutional bodies.
00:30:35.600Out of this shift came an extraordinary expansion of denominational institutions.
00:30:40.420This is a thesis that's the exact opposite of what everyone is taught in school.
00:30:44.680You know, you're told that the founders were skeptical of religious influence in government.
00:30:49.440The truth is that they wanted more religious influence in every aspect of American society.
00:30:54.300Now, Huntsman continues by pointing out that to European observers, America was unquestionably a religious state.
00:31:00.780Far more so than any country on the planet.
00:31:04.960Quote, at the end of the 18th century, religious establishments existed throughout European countries.
00:31:33.220When substantial numbers of Catholic immigrants arrived,
00:31:35.500it was eventually possible to accept Catholicism
00:31:37.740one more denomination within the broad framework of Christianity. A portion of the population who
00:31:42.800were religious adherents, that is, church members, increased fairly steadily throughout most of
00:31:47.340European, or rather, American history. European observers repeatedly commented on the high levels
00:31:52.440of religious commitment of Americans compared to that of their own people. Tocqueville said,
00:31:57.100quote, on my arrival in the United States, the religious aspect of the country was the first
00:32:00.720thing that struck my attention, and France, religion, and liberty opposed each other.
00:32:05.120The Americans, in contrast, have succeeded, combining admirably the spirit of religion and the spirit of liberty.
00:32:11.320Religion in America must be regarded as the first of their political institutions.
00:32:16.560This is why at every opportunity, our government must not simply tolerate Christianity, but promote it.
00:32:21.520It doesn't mean establishing a national church, which would be counterproductive, as the founders recognized,
00:32:26.120but it does mean that we should identify new ways to enable Christianity to flourish.
00:32:31.380And for starters, we should do exactly what the Trump administration is doing, which is to work to end the persecution of Christians, both in the U.S. and places like Africa.
00:32:39.360And also to affirm, as Marco Rubio just did, that we are a Christian nation.
00:32:59.640The State Department has shifted its public image in favor of explicit Christian messaging
00:33:03.160and iconography and away from secular and multicultural causes, an analysis by the
00:33:08.460Intercept of the Department's Instagram post has found. Posts marking Passover, Good Friday,
00:33:12.240and Easter in 2026 included explicitly religious messaging, including imagery of Christian crosses
00:33:17.640and references to Christ's sacrifice and the resurrection. The Intercept's analysis,
00:33:21.400which cataloged the Department's Instagram post from 2020 through early 2026,
00:33:25.100found these posts show a clear change in messaging, not only from the Biden's years,
00:33:30.020but also from President Donald Trump's first term.
00:33:33.760So they're really proud of their deep dive investigative reporting here.
00:33:37.020They relentlessly catalog Instagram posts on the State Department website.
00:33:41.620And they found that to their shock and horror, the State Department is talking less about gay deviance and more about Christianity.
00:33:48.240Cutting edge journalism, to say the least.
00:33:49.860And the best part is that at the top of the page, they have a gigantic banner where they beg for donations.
00:33:53.960So, you know, you can fund even more articles about the State Department's Instagram account.
00:33:59.460But the point is, look at the contrast between the wailing of modern day leftists as compared to what the Europeans and Americans were saying about the U.S. in its earliest days, continuing through the 19th century.
00:34:10.060They're talking about constitutional principles and history that they don't remotely understand.
00:34:15.240And that's because their goal is always is to rewrite history.
00:34:17.860They want to dismantle and undermine Christianity, not because they want a wall between church
00:34:23.120and state, but because they want total control over it.
00:34:27.780Now, as the election nears, we are reminded of the constant fight against communist ideas.
00:34:33.200The Daily Wire likes to be at the forefront of that fight, which is why we have a new
00:34:37.160movie coming out on November 11th about just that, and it's called Confession.
