00:01:20.460 Get ready to be confused about what you're supposed to be offended by exactly.

00:01:24.560 But here it is.

00:01:25.940 It says a group of ultra conservative House Republicans, including Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, are discussing launching an America First caucus that would protect, quote, Anglo-Saxon political traditions.

00:01:37.120 Representative Louie Gomer of Texas told reporters that he's looking at joining.

00:01:40.400 There's an America First caucus, he said, confirming that Greene has evolved.

00:01:44.160 A seven-page organizing document that includes the group's name and a logo, first reported by Punchbowl News, whatever that is, says America is a nation with a border and a culture strengthened by a common respect for uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions.

00:01:57.040 It adds that societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign citizens are imported in mass into a country, especially with institutional support for assimilation, without institutional support for assimilation and an expansive welfare state to bail them out should they fail to contribute positively to the country.

00:02:14.420 OK, that's it's a four page document, but that's part of what it says.

00:02:17.480 Now, if you have a fully intact brain, which has not been partially eaten by worms at this point, you'll hear that and think, OK, so what?

00:02:25.340 Yes, America First conservatives are against mass immigration.

00:02:29.240 No news there.

00:02:30.440 And that's for a good reason.

00:02:31.420 They're against it, by the way.

00:02:32.940 Yes, we're supposed to be a nation with a border and a culture.

00:02:36.560 And yes, we have Anglo-Saxon political traditions.

00:02:39.320 All of that is undeniably true.

00:02:41.040 But it's that last part, right?

00:02:43.000 Anglo-Saxon, which sent the outrage into overdrive.

00:02:46.040 The outrage followed, as it always does, the familiar path.

00:02:49.380 First, leftists on the Internet were mad and then high profile Democrats joined in and then high profile Republicans in an effort to signal that they're really good little boys and girls also joined.

00:02:59.900 Representative Adam Kissinger of Illinois said that the representatives involved in the caucus should be punished and they should have all their committee assignments taken away.

00:03:09.360 Representative Ken Buck said that the caucus plan was hateful and ignorant.

00:03:13.600 Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming called it nativist, racist, and somehow anti-Semitic.

00:03:19.140 I don't know.

00:03:20.080 And House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called it a nativist dog whistle.

00:03:24.920 And then the Democrats came over and patted them all on their heads and gave them lollipops, I guess, because that's what they were hoping for.

00:03:30.820 Finally, the inevitable conclusion to this familiar saga.

00:03:35.040 As NBC News again reports, now this was yesterday, they said two far-right House Republicans linked to a document calling for the protection of Anglo-Saxon political traditions distanced themselves from what they said was a draft of prescriptions for an America First caucus.

00:03:48.620 Representative Paul Gosar said in a Saturday statement that he did not author the document and that he became aware of it only after it was reported by the news media, saying he'll continue to work on America First issues in the House Freedom Caucus.

00:04:01.400 He said, quote, let me be perfectly clear, I did not author this paper.

00:04:04.500 In fact, I first became aware of it by reading about it in the news yesterday like everybody else.

00:04:07.780 In addition, Nick Dyer, a spokesperson for Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, said in a statement that the document was merely an early planning proposal and nothing was agreed to or approved.

00:04:19.700 Now, it's unfortunate that they distanced themselves as there is nothing that needs to be distanced from.

00:04:26.200 Narrowing in on the Anglo-Saxon term, it is, again, undeniably true that we have Anglo-Saxon political traditions.

00:04:33.500 Anyone who favors our system of government must also be in favor of preserving those traditions.

00:04:38.760 The critics can't really deny this.

00:04:40.200 And for the most part, they don't or aren't bothering to deny it.

00:04:43.460 Instead, they're simply insisting that we can't acknowledge this truth.

00:04:46.960 And if we do acknowledge it, we can't be proud of it.

00:04:50.620 And it is a rule strictly followed by the gimp contingent on the right.

00:04:55.080 Of which of which Kevin McCarthy is is the leader.

00:04:58.400 The rest of us, though, should just ignore it.

00:05:01.520 What's the problem with Anglo-Saxon exactly?

00:05:04.880 Well, simply that it's loosely associated with whiteness.

00:05:12.160 There are plenty of white people who aren't Anglo-Saxon.

00:05:14.340 Plenty of people who defend and enjoy Anglo-Saxon traditions who are not white.

00:05:22.060 But even so, anything associated, however loosely, with the ever-broadening category known as whiteness

00:05:30.500 Notice how the America First Caucus never said that only those with Anglo-Saxon ancestry can join the caucus.

00:05:39.660 No, see, for that kind of racism, you have to look to the Congressional Black Caucus, which excludes white members.

00:06:06.560 He said he has dropped his bid after several current and former caucus members made it clear to him that whites need not apply.

00:06:18.020 It's their caucus, and they do things their way.

00:06:23.700 Cohen said that he became convinced that joining the caucus would be a social faux pas after seeing news reports

00:06:28.140 that former Representative William Lacey Clay, a co-founder of the caucus,

00:06:32.500 had circulated a memo telling members it was, quote,

00:06:35.660 critical that the group remain, quote, exclusively African-American.

00:06:40.440 Okay, there you have a congressional caucus,

00:06:42.380 caucus, which denies entry based on race.

00:06:45.960 And yet we're supposed to accept that a caucus which denies entry to whites is not racist,

00:06:50.540 while a caucus that merely mentions Anglo-Saxon traditions is racist?

00:06:55.920 If you're still going along with these kinds of double standards and accepting them,

00:06:58.980 I don't know what to tell you.

00:06:59.880 You're a lost cause.

00:07:02.120 But I think I might sell the issue short by calling it a mere double standard.

00:07:07.240 The double standards around race, though, in this country are far worse than mere annoyances.

00:07:13.180 Again, the problem with the term Anglo-Saxon, in the minds of those offended by it,

00:07:17.960 is that they associate it with whiteness.

00:07:21.100 And whiteness, as they've made quite clear, is bad.

00:07:24.760 The message is that if you're white, the only thing you're allowed to feel about your identity is guilt.

00:07:29.700 Everybody else on earth, all other races, may feel proud of their identity in history.

00:07:35.460 They may even feel superior and declare themselves to be so publicly.

00:07:40.700 That is outright definitional racism, and it's acceptable as long as the person displaying it is not white.

00:07:47.080 For whites, the only acceptable feeling is one of guilt, remorse, and regret.

00:07:50.600 All for sins they didn't personally commit, and which, even if their ancestors did commit,

00:07:55.680 everyone else's ancestors also committed.

00:07:58.320 But all of the sins of the past, slavery, racism, conquest, which are shared by all people,

00:08:03.860 the common heritage of the whole fallen human race,

00:08:07.080 must be carried exclusively by white people.

00:08:10.540 To even protest this or object to it is racist.

00:08:13.200 To even say so much as, I'm a white man and I like being who I am, is racist.

00:08:19.480 You're not allowed to like being who you are, if you're white.

00:08:23.280 This is not defensible. It's not sustainable either.

00:08:26.720 History shows, clearly, the danger of singling out certain races and saying,

00:08:31.680 oh yeah, well, we're allowed to say certain things and do certain things and have certain attitudes,

00:08:35.860 but not you. You can't. This is for us, not you.

00:08:39.820 That has never worked out well.

00:08:41.380 Though in another sense, it has exactly the effect that is intended.

00:08:47.220 So it works out perfectly in another sense.

00:08:49.000 The point is to divide and dehumanize.

00:08:53.380 And if you're white, all you're supposed to do in response to all of that is keep apologizing.

00:08:58.060 Which is why I must say, as a white man, I, for one, do not apologize for being who I am.
