00:00:00.000 Joined by Nicole Georges is the mother of a student, a 13-year-old girl at Shepard Middle School in Illinois.
00:00:05.220 We've discussed Nicole's case on the show, and she gave an impassioned speech at a school board meeting
00:00:11.940 speaking out against how her daughter has been treated, and we'll talk about that.
00:00:16.820 We'll get to all that, but first, Nicole, thanks for joining us.
00:00:20.320 Thank you for having me, Matt. I really appreciate it.
00:00:23.320 Now, for anyone not familiar with your case, let's just walk through what happened,
00:00:31.060 kind of what led you up to the point of speaking to the school board,
00:00:34.720 and then we're going to talk about what happened after that.
00:00:36.380 So can you just kind of take us through the whole story with your daughter from start to end?
00:00:42.700 Sure. Thank you.
00:00:44.500 So my daughter is a middle schooler, and she is 13 years old.
00:00:48.220 She went to school on a normal day and was in the bathroom where she was using the bathroom,
00:00:55.600 and a boy was in the stall next to her.
00:00:58.260 When she exited, she came home, talked to her dad and I, and we said the next day,
00:01:04.440 go talk to your teacher, find out why he was in the bathroom, because she knew he was a boy with genitalia, male genitalia.
00:01:12.960 We'll just say it like it is.
00:01:14.440 And when she talked to her teacher the next day, her teacher said he now identifies as a she,
00:01:22.300 and that he would be using the bathroom as well as the locker room now.
00:01:28.480 She was very upset, as her dad and I were very upset.
00:01:32.780 So we reached out to the administration with a phone call as well as an email,
00:01:38.120 and said that the Trump administration had put an executive order into place,
00:01:42.740 and we said that, obviously, maybe you're not on top of things, as you should be,
00:01:48.380 and obviously, what is going on now with the school?
00:01:52.960 He said, let's have a follow-up with the phone conversation,
00:01:56.240 which we had the phone conversation with the principal.
00:01:58.880 The principal said, we are not following the executive order.
00:02:01.440 We are following the state law.
00:02:03.660 And I said, well, if that's how it's going to be, I'm filing a civil rights complaint today.
00:02:10.980 This was on February 7th.
00:02:13.880 A couple weeks had gone by.
00:02:16.300 Nothing had really happened.
00:02:17.760 The girls had been going to pee, as usual.
00:02:20.640 But we were preparing that this child was going to be using the girls' locker room.
00:02:26.120 The child was then using the girls' locker room on his own,
00:02:31.780 where he was being brought in on his own without the girls being present.
00:02:37.540 So he was using the girls' locker room on his own, without the girls being in there.
00:02:42.260 So after lunch or before lunch, I don't know exactly how it was,
00:02:46.260 but he was being taken into the girls' locker room without the girls in there.
00:02:49.980 So he was getting special treatment, from what I understand.
00:02:54.620 So then came mid-February, the end of February,
00:02:58.040 where the girls had decided when he was going to be in there,
00:03:01.500 they did not want to change with him present in the locker room.
00:03:05.780 So they all decided to not wear their uniform with him present.
00:03:09.740 They made a little protest.
00:03:12.260 The PE teachers were fine with that.
00:03:14.660 They said, you don't have to change.
00:03:16.180 Fine.
00:03:16.600 As long as you put on your gym shoes, we're okay with that, which was wonderful.
00:03:21.000 The next day, the assistant principal pulled multiple girls into her office
00:03:27.760 and reprimanded them, asking them, why did you do this?
00:03:32.180 This is against policy.
00:03:33.460 You need to wear your uniform.
00:03:36.420 That same day, she brought in this assistant superintendent.
00:03:40.600 Now, this assistant superintendent does not have an office at Shepard Middle School.
00:03:45.440 She is across the, in a different office building where the district protest was that night,
00:03:55.160 where I had spoke that.
00:03:56.460 So she had to get in her car to come to Shepard Middle School that day.
00:04:01.060 She was there, and then two other teachers were there to make the girls change into their uniform with the child present that day.
00:04:10.020 My daughter changed that day.
00:04:11.900 She was forced.
00:04:12.600 Now comes the next day.
00:04:16.740 The same parties had to come there.
00:04:18.880 So she, again, had the assistant superintendent had to drive to the school, get in her car.
00:04:25.120 Same thing happened.
00:04:25.980 That's when my daughter, the male was in the locker room with them.
00:04:29.720 He was going to change.
00:04:31.300 And that's when my daughter said, uh-uh, no way, not happening.
00:04:34.560 I am not changing in front of this kid.
00:04:36.860 She got on the phone, called me, hysterical crying, called her father too, and said, what do I do?
00:04:42.360 I'm not changing.
00:04:43.280 And I said, absolutely straight.
00:04:45.260 You are not changing.
00:04:46.920 Not happening.
00:04:47.940 Thank God she had her phone with her.
00:04:50.060 And she ran out of the locker room, hysterical crying.
00:04:52.820 And she said, I'm going to get in trouble.
00:04:54.260 I can't have a phone here.
00:04:55.260 I said, you're not going to get in trouble.
00:04:57.120 Put me on the phone to the first person to doubt you see, because I will have a serious conversation with them.
00:05:01.600 Which I did, and I went absolutely postal on the phone to the first person that I talked to.
00:05:07.140 And I said, how dare you do this?
00:05:09.000 How dare you make my daughter change in front of all of these women?
00:05:12.960 And how dare you make my daughter try, because she wouldn't change, in front of this boy?
00:05:19.340 I said, he has a penis.
00:05:20.600 He absolutely has a penis.
00:05:22.260 And it's not happening.
00:05:24.440 And that's what happened.
00:05:26.400 Then I followed up with an email to the principal.
00:05:29.400 And his response was, we can just have your daughter move to a different PE class for the remainder of the year.
00:05:37.760 And I said, nope, not happening either.
00:05:40.580 Why should my daughter have to move to a different PE class?
00:05:44.060 She has done nothing wrong.
00:05:46.280 She is a girl.
00:05:47.640 She remains in that PE class.
00:05:49.720 The only thing my daughter's not doing is she's not changing for the remainder of the year.
00:05:55.220 And that's where we're at today now, until I went to a little more meeting.
00:06:00.180 I'm juggling life as a husband, father, and show host.
00:06:03.020 Trust me, things are generally chaotic around here.
00:06:05.420 Can you imagine trying to somehow eat 31 different fruits and vegetables every single day?
00:06:09.680 It sounds absolutely miserable, not to mention the hours it would take.
00:06:12.740 And to be honest, sometimes I just want to roll through a drive-thru and order something that would make a doctor quietly weep.
00:06:18.880 But that's where Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies comes in.
00:06:21.300 It's literally the easiest way to get all those fruits and vegetables that you should be eating.
00:06:25.460 31 whole ingredients, to be exact, into your diet.
00:06:28.360 Balance of Nature takes real fruits and vegetables, freeze-dries them, which preserve all the good stuff,
00:06:32.500 grinds them into powder, and stuffs them into convenient capsules.
00:06:35.540 Just take them daily, and your body handles the rest.
00:06:38.200 No chopping, no prep, none of that at all.
00:06:40.100 Go to balanceofnature.com.
00:06:41.720 Use promo code Walsh for 35% off your first order as a preferred customer.
00:06:45.240 Plus, get a free bottle of fiber and spice.
00:06:47.760 That's balanceofnature.com, promo code Walsh.
00:06:50.840 Yeah, well, before we get to that, because your experience at the meeting, I certainly want to talk about.
00:06:55.280 Yeah.
00:06:56.280 But before we get there, so you told your daughter to put you on the phone with the first adult she saw, and you expressed your—
00:07:04.760 After she ran out.
00:07:06.240 Right, right.
00:07:06.920 So you expressed your very righteous anger to this adult.
00:07:09.300 What did this adult say back? Anything?
00:07:12.240 She just kept saying, Mrs. Georges, Mrs. Georges, you're directing your anger at the wrong person.
00:07:16.820 I think it was the secretary that I spoke to, because I was—I mean, rightfully so.
00:07:24.880 I was screaming.
00:07:26.140 I was—I didn't swear, but I was absolutely beside myself.
00:07:29.920 I said, are you proud of yourself?
00:07:31.300 Are you absolutely proud of yourself?
00:07:34.000 And I just kept saying, this child has a penis.
00:07:38.320 Yeah.
00:07:39.080 So, and I just want to—
00:07:40.820 These are 13.
00:07:40.960 These girls are 13 years old.
00:07:42.620 They are little girls.
00:07:44.060 Of course.
00:07:45.060 Of course.
00:07:45.980 So—
00:07:46.380 I'm looking at those games here.
00:07:47.780 Just to kind of reiterate this, because I find it, it's so baffling to me.
00:07:52.660 Yeah.
00:07:53.420 That—
00:07:54.100 It's probably—it's got to be all on video on FOIA.
00:07:56.880 When it comes through, you'll see my daughter running down the halls.
00:07:59.740 You'll see teachers all running, going into the locker room.
00:08:02.520 When the FOIA comes out, it's going to be all there.
00:08:05.500 So, yeah, and just to be very clear, it was a group of adults actually physically in the locker room, and the boy was there, and they were saying to the daughter and the other girls, you have to get changed right now while they were watching.
00:08:22.840 Is that it?
00:08:23.560 Yes.
00:08:23.880 And then on the District 109 policy, it says that no child is required to change.
00:08:27.640 Well, if no child is required to change, why were there more adults there, and why was an administrator driven every single day if no child is required to change, District 109?
00:08:38.620 So this is what takes us through the initial incident, and you end up in this—it was a school board meeting, correct?
00:08:46.580 Yes, yes.
00:08:48.960 Where I would say 85% of the people do not live in Deerfield, do not reside in Deerfield, do not have children that even go to Shepard Middle School or any of the schools in Deerfield.
00:09:00.640 They were activists that were told that there would be Moms for Liberty people there.
00:09:06.940 I was the only person for Moms for Liberty, the only one, one person.
00:09:11.580 Yeah, so—
00:09:12.580 Single person.
00:09:13.500 In the video—
00:09:14.680 They were planned active.
00:09:16.580 Right, so there's activists that came in from out of town.
00:09:20.040 The video is pretty incredible and pretty startling because, you know, you obviously are so clearly in the right about this situation, and yet, in the video anyway, it appeared that you were totally outnumbered by a bunch of, frankly, lunatics.
00:09:37.160 Is that what it was in the room?
00:09:38.520 Were you the only sane person in the room, or were there other people on your side that were there?
00:09:41.940 No, there was two other moms and one dad and my husband that was standing in the hallway because he had no seats because there was nobody else.
00:09:52.740 And there was police officers there, too.
00:09:55.380 I had to be escorted out because they were trying—they were all following me to my car.
00:09:59.240 They were following you to your car.
00:10:01.800 What were they doing, yelling at you while you—what were they doing?
00:10:03.980 Yeah, I mean, they yelled at me the whole time.
00:10:05.800 And the school board was telling them to—they were telling us because they were screaming the whole time at us, directing.
00:10:13.300 Every time that they would talk, they would turn around and yell at us.
00:10:16.540 I just sat there the whole time and just kind of laughed at them.
00:10:21.560 I didn't—if you watch the whole video, I didn't even say a word because it just was actually comical how they behaved.
00:10:28.860 I mean, they made absolutely—they were a joke.
00:10:33.060 They were an absolute joke.
00:10:34.620 And they don't have any say in what goes on in our district.
00:10:37.300 They don't live here.
00:10:38.000 They don't have children that go here.
00:10:39.300 There was maybe a few people there that actually lived in the district, but they didn't even have kids that actually attended Shepard.
00:10:48.140 Now, what about—
00:10:49.340 And there was a few people that did live in the district, and they didn't even stand up and speak.
00:10:54.520 So shame on them.
00:10:56.700 Absolutely.
00:10:57.400 And I was going to ask you, so your daughter was not the only girl that was in this situation.
00:11:04.760 What about the parents of the other girls?
00:11:06.840 Have any of them joined you in speaking out against this?
00:11:09.300 Not—not—not yet, no.
00:11:13.620 But there has been over 50 complaints currently right now in Deerfield.
00:11:18.280 Representative Mary Miller of Illinois has over 50 complaints currently right now in Deerfield.
00:11:25.000 Right now.
00:11:25.660 She is calling on President Trump to codify the executive order and make it law.
00:11:31.520 So we call on the congressmen right now.
00:11:34.980 I'm calling congressmen to codify it because right now there's over 50 complaints currently.
00:11:42.220 And what's the—how has the school responded in the midst of all this?
00:11:47.700 And now with all the attention it's getting, what's the atmosphere like?
00:11:51.020 They're standing down right now.
00:11:54.240 And there's a federal complaint.
00:11:55.440 They're standing down saying—they put a policy up online on District 109 saying that there was—that there was five private spaces in the locker room and that none of the children are required to change.
00:12:08.180 Well, if they're not required to change, why would you bring in teachers every single day?
00:12:14.420 And five private spaces, there's 25 to 30 girls in the gym class.
00:12:17.740 How does that—what math—how does that add up?
00:12:20.120 Is the boys still allowed to use the changing room, the girls' changing room currently?
00:12:26.800 Every day.
00:12:27.860 Every day.
00:12:29.560 The kids are on spring break.
00:12:31.960 Because they go by what you identify with.
00:12:38.220 And how's your daughter doing right now with all this?
00:12:44.560 She's super strong right now.
00:12:46.860 She's definitely getting ostracized in school right now.
00:12:49.440 I've talked to the principal about it multiple times.
00:12:52.140 She was told to leave her lunch table by a very mean girl that she does not—that she doesn't belong at her lunch table.
00:13:00.640 So we have had to have a conversation with the principal about that twice.
00:13:04.400 And the principal said, well, that child has the right to believe what she wants.
00:13:09.340 So, I mean, this is where we're at.
00:13:11.960 And that's okay if then that's somebody that, you know, everybody has their right to believe what they want.
00:13:18.100 And there's nothing we can really do about that.
00:13:22.500 Sure, but—not to harp on it, but—so there's not—there aren't a lot of other parents right now in that school that are kind of joining with you?
00:13:34.120 There is—right now, there's a lot, but there's people that they just do not—they are very afraid of the woke mob in Deerfield.
00:13:44.680 There's a huge woke mob in Deerfield.
00:13:47.920 Sure.
00:13:49.100 And—
00:13:49.620 Very, very much so is.
00:13:51.480 And it's—and it's—it's strong.
00:13:53.620 It's a very strong woke mob that you—you need to keep your face very, very—you just cannot—you can't have your image—how can I say it?
00:14:07.020 It's—you just—you have to keep your image very clean here.
00:14:10.440 Have you—
00:14:11.440 And I have no problem.
00:14:12.640 I—I will stand alone, and I know facts, and I don't—I don't really care.
00:14:17.540 I know what's the truth, and this is where we're at.
00:14:22.860 Have you—have you felt you had to worry for your safety or your daughter's safety at all through all this?
00:14:26.660 Um, I mean, a little bit, especially when you have a—when you have a local—your local rep attacking you and your family on the house floor.
00:14:37.960 You know, that's pretty, pretty sad, and—
00:14:40.560 What did the local—what did the local—what did the local rep say on the house floor?
00:14:44.700 He called us liars on the house floor.
00:14:47.080 I mean, and he's—he lives in—he lives in our town, and he attacked us on the house—you know, on the house floor.
00:14:53.640 Wow.
00:14:54.520 In Deerfield, you know, and that's pretty sad.
00:14:56.460 I mean, you're—you're—you're shaming a little girl, a victim, called us liars on the house floor.
00:15:01.940 So we went down to Springfield two days later and, um, and—and showed our face to show we're not going to hide.
00:15:09.000 We're not—we will stand up for ourself.
00:15:11.560 I am not afraid.
00:15:13.540 And stood there and actually did a speech on the house—did a speech in Springfield.
00:15:18.700 And stood there proud because we know what's the truth.
00:15:21.500 We know what's right, and I will not hide.
00:15:24.400 Good for you.
00:15:24.920 You know, I'm very proud, and I have so many people backing us.
00:15:29.560 And the thing is, I've had so many emails from local Deerfield families that have been here for 40, 50 years that are so disgusted what has happened to this town and are so proud.
00:15:41.060 And also past Shepard families that they've—this is the reason why they left Deerfield, because of this community, because of what these people, these administrators have did to their kids.
00:15:52.620 And they're so proud.
00:15:53.860 Wrote Kate letters.
00:15:54.980 That's my daughter.
00:15:56.960 It's just—and, you know, I don't care.
00:15:58.860 I will fight till the death over this, because I know what's right.
00:16:02.780 And I, you know, I've talked to Riley Gaines.
00:16:05.540 I've talked to Caitlin Wheeler.
00:16:06.680 I've talked to, you know, Jennifer Say.
00:16:08.660 I've talked to everybody.
00:16:09.900 These—this is the reason why.
00:16:11.280 I know what's right.
00:16:12.140 And I—and I will fight forever for these girls, even if it means I'm still alone.
00:16:16.300 Now, when it comes to fighting, what is—what's—for you, what's the next step in the fight?
00:16:22.160 Policy change.
00:16:23.260 Policy change.
00:16:25.380 That's all I care about.
00:16:27.400 I don't want any girl to have to walk in a bathroom with a boy.
00:16:33.100 That's it.
00:16:33.760 That's all I care about.
00:16:34.840 Keeping it—keep it common sense.
00:16:36.960 Common sense.
00:16:37.760 Keep it simple.
00:16:39.220 And do you have any—do you have hope?
00:16:42.180 Is there a real—
00:16:43.300 Do you feel there's a movement for actual policy change in the state?
00:16:49.560 I hope so.
00:16:50.680 I think, you know, we have the administration on our side.
00:16:55.140 So I think that things will—I think we have, you know, a wonderful president that I think will—is behind us.
00:17:01.540 And I thank God for that.
00:17:03.500 And I think that, you know, we have—I thank God for that.

00:17:21.400 Well, Nicole Georges, I—what you and your daughter are going through is just, as I said, it's mind-boggling.

00:17:37.360 So thanks for your courage in fighting back against this.
00:17:41.720 And please keep us posted on the progress.
00:17:44.420 Absolutely.
00:17:45.300 Thank you again for having me, Matt.
00:17:46.580 I really appreciate it.
00:17:47.660 I really appreciate it.
00:17:51.420 I appreciate it.
00:17:53.120 I really appreciate it.
00:17:54.360 And I thank you.
00:17:56.040 All right.
00:17:57.020 My favorite character is I really do.
