The Matt Walsh Show - This Is The Reason Why Getting Plastic Surgery Has Become Trendy [Weekly Walsh Original]

00:00:00.000 Well, cosmetic surgery is on the rise across the country, especially among Gen Z.

00:00:04.580 And not all the procedures are the traditional type, if you can call any cosmetic surgery traditional.

00:00:10.220 This new generation is getting innovative, often in the most grotesque ways imaginable.

00:00:14.740 So for instance, one of the hottest procedures on the market is called

00:00:18.040 peritopigmentation, which along with being a great Scrabble word that I think I pronounced correctly actually,

00:00:24.340 is also a surgery to change the color of your eyes.

00:00:27.700 New York Post reports, quote,

00:00:29.160 Don't want to be a brown-eyed girl anymore? 1.00

00:00:31.560 If you're not afraid of the risks, including going blind, iris color-changing surgery,

00:00:36.360 the latest procedure to go viral online, might be for you.

00:00:39.220 The process, known as keratopigmentation, involves using a laser to create a tunnel in the superficial cornea

00:00:44.840 in order to place pigment.

00:00:46.480 But experts are warning it could lead to many terrifying conditions, including blindness,

00:00:50.380 not to mention it's not approved for cosmetic use.

00:00:52.880 Just last week, the French company New Color, experts in keratopigmentation,

00:00:56.360 shared footage of one patient who changed her brown eyes to a stark, vibrant blue,

00:01:01.260 in a clip scoring 16 million views on TikTok.

00:01:04.120 But for one model, it cost her her precious vision.

00:01:07.020 Oh, my eyes! My eyes!

00:01:08.980 Nadine Bruna traveled to Colombia to change her hazel orbs to a bright gray,

00:01:13.520 undergoing a different procedure that uses a silicone implant,

00:01:16.780 only to lose 80% of her vision in her right eye and 50% in her left.

00:01:20.620 Well, that is surprising.

00:01:22.280 Apparently, if you let someone burrow a tunnel into your cornea

00:01:24.840 and inject it with ink or, I guess, an implant or whatever it was in that case,

00:01:28.960 it might do some damage to your eyes.

00:01:30.600 It turns out that intentionally damaging your eyes will result in damaged eyes.

00:01:34.280 Who could have known?

00:01:35.520 And by the way, if you're wondering what the end result of this eye surgery looks like,

00:01:41.240 well, here it is.

00:01:41.960 What's up?

00:01:42.960 What's up?

00:01:44.120 My mouth!

00:01:45.320 He's like,

00:01:46.240 I'm proud of Nayar. 0.98

00:01:46.960 I was like, shut the mouth.

00:01:48.700 He put the music.

00:01:51.000 My friend, he put the music.

00:01:52.520 I'm so sorry.

00:01:53.100 I'm so sorry.

00:01:53.640 I'm so sorry.

00:01:57.320 One, two, three.

00:01:59.740 It's really the color that I wanted.

00:02:05.600 It really looks like all my clothes.

00:02:07.320 And I'm wearing this hat.

00:02:09.300 Okay.

00:02:10.640 So you can see there,

00:02:11.500 if you're trying to look like one of the X-Men,

00:02:14.540 then this is the procedure for you, I guess,

00:02:16.440 which maybe,

00:02:17.480 it probably makes it sound cooler than it really is.

00:02:19.500 In truth, she just looks bizarre,

00:02:21.480 you know, like some kind of AI recreation of herself.

00:02:25.300 But this is the effect that most cosmetic procedures have on people.

00:02:28.120 And that's a problem because cosmetic surgery,

00:02:30.560 as mentioned a moment ago,

00:02:31.680 has never been more popular.

00:02:33.620 Long gone are the days when only aging,

00:02:35.920 upper-class, 52-year-old women got work done. 0.99

00:02:39.220 Now everyone is doing it, especially young people.

00:02:42.260 Plastic surgery procedures increased by 20% from 2019 until now,

00:02:45.800 according to PlasticSurgery.org.

00:02:48.040 The same source tells us that the Gen Z crowd

00:02:50.420 accounted for nearly 40% of all nose jobs in the previous year

00:02:53.940 and 25% of all cheek implants.

00:02:56.860 Because cheek implants are apparently a thing.

00:03:01.120 Meanwhile, my generation of millennials

00:03:02.340 seem to be particular fans of buttock augmentations

00:03:05.340 and have accounted for more than 40% of those.

00:03:08.320 His buttocks are sublime.

00:03:10.600 Perhaps not surprisingly,

00:03:11.640 liposuction is the most popular cosmetic procedure of them all,

00:03:14.240 right ahead of breast implants. 0.95

00:03:16.440 And all of these surgeries are being performed more often,

00:03:19.700 and they're starting at younger ages.

00:03:21.500 With profiling, surveillance, and data harvesting,

00:03:24.280 there are lots of things to not like about tech giants.

00:03:27.680 But what can you actually do about it

00:03:29.080 when you rely on so many of their products?

00:03:30.980 We don't all have $44 billion to go buy up Twitter

00:03:33.520 and reform tech companies from the inside.

00:03:35.560 The good news is,

00:03:36.760 you don't need to be a billionaire to take a stand.

00:03:38.760 For less than $7 per month,

00:03:40.140 you can join me and fight back against big tech

00:03:42.200 by using ExpressVPN.

00:03:44.140 How do you think big tech companies make all their money anyway?

00:03:46.580 Well, they do it by tracking your searches,

00:03:49.300 your video history,

00:03:50.020 everything you click on,

00:03:50.820 and then selling your personal data.

00:03:53.100 ExpressVPN helps you anonymize much of your online presence

00:03:55.680 by hiding your IP address,

00:03:57.580 which is a unique identifier that every device has

00:03:59.920 that allows big tech to match your activity back to you.

00:04:02.900 That's why I use ExpressVPN on all my devices

00:04:04.980 to make it much more difficult for them

00:04:06.400 to exploit my data for their own profit.

00:04:08.620 The best part is how easy it is to use the ExpressVPN app.

00:04:11.320 I just tap one button on my phone or computer,

00:04:13.120 turn it on, and it's as simple as that.

00:04:14.760 So if you don't like big tech tracking you

00:04:16.640 and selling your personal data for profit,

00:04:18.040 it's time to fight back.

00:04:32.760 The New York Post again reports,

00:04:34.540 as celebrities scramble for doses of weight loss aid Ozempic,

00:04:37.880 Gen Z is booking cosmetic procedures more now than ever. 0.74

00:04:40.620 In fact, 75% of plastic surgeons

00:04:42.180 saw a spike in clients under 30.

00:04:44.760 According to data released last week

00:04:46.180 by the American Academy of Facial Plastic

00:04:48.740 and Reconstructive Surgery,

00:04:50.420 which is a consistently higher plateau

00:04:52.480 over the five previous years.

00:04:54.040 Board of Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Ashley Amalfi

00:04:57.740 said that she's seen an uptick in young clientele

00:05:00.580 at the Quatala Center for Plastic Surgery

00:05:05.640 in Rochester, New York.

00:05:06.880 And now about one third of her patients are Gen Z.

00:05:09.160 Quote, I really see that

00:05:10.260 as sort of this extension of the beauty market.

00:05:13.340 She called the trend great.

00:05:15.420 They are a population in general

00:05:16.920 who's just taking really good care of themselves.

00:05:20.200 Now, I'm not sure that taking good care of themselves

00:05:21.580 is the first attribute that I would associate with Gen Z 0.96

00:05:23.880 or any other current American generation.

00:05:26.200 You know, over half of Gen Z are obese, first of all, 1.00

00:05:28.260 so it's hard to say that they are particularly adept at self-care.

00:05:31.060 And they may use the phrase self-care

00:05:32.680 and talk about it a lot,

00:05:33.760 and they make TikTok videos about it,

00:05:34.880 but the results tell us a different story.

00:05:37.000 And of course,

00:05:38.160 plastic surgery is rarely an example

00:05:40.080 of taking care of yourself.

00:05:41.380 Now, sure, here and there,

00:05:42.660 you might find a person who had a procedure done

00:05:45.020 and they actually do look better because of it.

00:05:46.720 I mean, that does happen.

00:05:47.400 I'm not denying that.

00:05:48.480 There are people who have deformities

00:05:49.880 or other sorts of visible physical afflictions,

00:05:53.160 burns, that sort of thing,

00:05:54.080 where plastic surgery could truly change their lives

00:05:56.160 for the better.

00:05:57.200 But those cases are likely in the minority,

00:05:59.080 probably a rather small minority.

00:06:00.640 And most of these people,

00:06:01.600 especially the 26-year-old women 1.00

00:06:03.020 going to the surgeon for cheek implants

00:06:05.020 and Botox and lip fillers and so on,

00:06:07.440 they wind up looking significantly worse

00:06:09.640 by the end of it

00:06:10.240 because they look less human.

00:06:13.220 You're not quite human, are you?

00:06:16.220 Like that woman's eyes. 1.00

00:06:17.860 I don't know what that looks like.

00:06:20.160 Those are not human eyes.

00:06:21.200 It doesn't look like a human's eye.

00:06:22.440 I don't know what that is.

00:06:23.520 It looks artificial.

00:06:25.020 And that's the general effect

00:06:26.280 of so many of these procedures.

00:06:27.660 They make you look less real, less authentic.

00:06:30.500 And looking less real and less authentic

00:06:32.000 automatically means that you look worse

00:06:34.020 because to look less human

00:06:35.220 is to look worse as a human.

00:06:38.540 Because as it turns out,

00:06:40.000 you as a human being

00:06:41.020 are a whole, complete creature.

00:06:42.800 You are not a potato head doll.

00:06:44.580 You cannot mix and match your parts

00:06:46.400 and reassemble yourself however you choose.

00:06:48.560 Well, you can do that,

00:06:49.720 thanks to the wonders of modern medicine,

00:06:51.000 but everyone will be able to tell

00:06:53.480 that you've done it.

00:06:55.020 You know, we'll look at your reassembled face

00:06:57.040 and think, hmm,

00:06:58.480 something's a little bit off about that.

00:07:00.380 It's not quite right.

00:07:02.000 So you may not like your eyes

00:07:03.680 or your lips or your nose or whatever,

00:07:05.200 but those are your eyes

00:07:06.920 and your lips and your nose.

00:07:08.220 And if you go and get different eyes,

00:07:09.480 lips or nose,

00:07:10.260 they're not going to be yours anymore.

00:07:12.120 Your cheek implants may look like cheeks,

00:07:14.800 but they probably won't look like your cheeks.

00:07:16.920 It will appear as it is,

00:07:18.480 like parts have been artificially attached to you

00:07:20.640 or artificially inflated

00:07:21.980 to resemble a size and shape

00:07:23.380 they were never meant to be.

00:07:24.680 It's certainly the case 1.00

00:07:25.400 for every lip augmentation

00:07:26.780 that's ever been done.

00:07:27.920 And that's what makes plastic surgery so uncanny.

00:07:29.800 The weird thing about it is that

00:07:31.480 like if I see you for the first time

00:07:33.960 and I never knew you before,

00:07:34.940 I never saw you before,

00:07:36.080 most of the time,

00:07:37.680 I, like anybody else,

00:07:38.740 will still be able to tell

00:07:40.400 if you had work done on your face.

00:07:41.680 It'll be obvious

00:07:42.420 that those artificial

00:07:43.780 or artificially accentuated features

00:07:45.500 are not your features,

00:07:47.020 which is kind of interesting

00:07:48.440 when you think about it

00:07:49.000 because I don't know you.

00:07:49.820 I've never seen you before.

00:07:51.940 But I know that how you look right now

00:07:54.300 is not how you really look.

00:07:56.400 That's because the picture

00:07:57.300 doesn't quite make sense.

00:07:58.200 The features don't fit together.

00:07:59.520 It doesn't match.

00:08:00.380 It's not real.

00:08:00.980 There's something asymmetrical

00:08:02.000 and inauthentic

00:08:03.320 and out of balance about it.

00:08:05.420 You don't look how you were made to look.

00:08:07.180 And even people who don't know

00:08:08.180 how you were made to look can tell.

00:08:10.440 But of course,

00:08:10.720 people don't believe

00:08:11.280 that they were made these days at all.

00:08:12.620 That's part of the problem.

00:08:13.400 The reason cosmetic surgery

00:08:15.520 is as popular as it is

00:08:16.640 is exactly that.

00:08:17.660 Many people think

00:08:18.300 that they basically materialized

00:08:19.660 out of the ether

00:08:20.320 for no reason

00:08:21.180 and for no purpose.

00:08:22.920 And now they are gods over themselves.

00:08:24.920 They are in charge

00:08:25.600 of their own self-creation.

00:08:27.340 They set to work.

00:08:28.120 Then rebuilding their own bodies.

00:08:29.960 And at the end of the whole process,

00:08:31.040 if it ever does end,

00:08:31.860 which often it doesn't,

00:08:33.260 they have become

00:08:33.920 some pale imitation

00:08:35.280 of what they were before.

00:08:36.560 Some weird Picasso-like

00:08:38.020 rendition of themselves.

00:08:39.820 Which, like any remake,

00:08:41.580 is only very rarely

00:08:43.680 an improvement

00:08:44.440 over the original.

00:08:46.080 And that is why

00:08:46.660 the plastic surgery craze

00:08:48.360 is today cancelled.

00:08:50.900 In the Barbie world, 0.69

00:08:52.620 in the Barbie world,

00:08:53.120 I think plastic,

00:08:54.700 it's fantastic.
