00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and this is your AM
00:00:08.920 Update. As DHS surges more assets to Minnesota, a deeper look at what far-left agitators are doing
00:00:16.360 to try to thwart the federal government. The obvious targeting of Minnesota for our diversity
00:00:21.980 is a violation of the Constitution and of federal law. Officials in Minnesota and Illinois each
00:00:29.000 launching legal challenges against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement
00:00:33.180 efforts. The man suspected of killing Ohio couple Spencer and Monique Tepe, appearing in court for
00:00:43.780 the first time, a full report on the gruesome story. And a former Trump official lands a key job with
00:00:49.520 Facebook parent company Meta. All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.
00:00:54.780 Our sponsor, the Electronic Payments Coalition, says Washington politicians are always getting
00:01:03.860 in your wallet and that now they're messing with your credit card. They say your credit card and
00:01:08.520 the security it offers are under attack and that Senators Dick Durbin and Roger Marshall want to
00:01:12.920 change the nation's payment system in a way that would benefit corporate megastores like Walmart and
00:01:17.500 Target at the expense of everyday Americans. Credit cards can keep your payments secure,
00:01:22.960 and they can provide rewards that families use to help make everyday purchases more affordable.
00:01:28.360 The Electronic Payments Coalition says the Durbin Marshall mandates would let corporate megastores
00:01:33.540 cut corners on credit card processing, routing transactions over cheaper, untested networks
00:01:38.600 with weaker security and fewer protections. Find out more at guardyourcard.com and consider telling
00:01:44.280 Congress to guard your card. As protesters continue to stalk, harass, and attempt to intimidate federal
00:01:52.220 agents in Minnesota after the deadly confrontation with Renee Good, who was a trained ICE agitator,
00:01:59.340 Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announcing Sunday on Fox that hundreds more agents will be
00:02:04.880 deployed to Minneapolis. There'll be hundreds more in order to allow our ICE and our Border Patrol
00:02:11.120 individuals that are working in Minneapolis to do so safely. We're going to continue to, if they
00:02:17.940 conduct violent activities against law enforcement, if they impede our operations, that's a crime,
00:02:23.620 and we will hold them accountable to those consequences. So unfortunately, when you don't have the
00:02:27.960 partnership of the city, Mayor Fry and Governor Walz have been very clear that they're going to continue
00:02:33.620 their rhetoric. They're going to continue to put criminals and corrupt illegal aliens above the
00:02:39.620 people that live in that city and in that state. They've said they're not going to help us, so we'll
00:02:44.260 make sure that we protect our officers, but we also follow through on making sure these criminals are
00:02:48.320 brought to justice. Secretary Noem saying agents in Minnesota are specifically focusing on arresting and
00:02:53.780 removing sex trafficking and child trafficking offenders. Social media video showing a tense situation
00:02:59.880 yesterday, dozens of agitators arriving to the aftermath of a scene where agents had just
00:03:05.080 rear-ended a man's car. The AP reporting protesters flocking to the area, blowing whistles, shouting at,
00:03:12.020 and surrounding agents. The feds deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd, allowing officers to exit the
00:03:18.060 commotion. These confrontational tactics echoing guidance promoted by Minnesota Ice Watch, the activist
00:03:24.580 group Renee Good reportedly belonged to, now under renewed scrutiny following the deadly confrontation
00:03:30.100 between Good and an ICE agent. Minnesota Ice Watch encouraging so-called direct action, advocating for
00:03:37.080 outside activists to physically insert themselves into law enforcement operations. President Trump on
00:03:43.660 Sunday from Air Force One discussing the Renee Good incident as part of a larger national trend where
00:03:49.500 agitators force confrontations with law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law
00:03:56.920 enforcement. You saw that. They were harassing. They were following for days and for hours. And I think, frankly,
00:04:05.220 they're professional agitators. And I'd like to find out, and we are going to find out who's paying for it with their
00:04:11.320 brand new signs and all the different things. But these are professional agitators. And law enforcement should not be in a
00:04:18.740 position where they have to put up with this stuff. What that woman and what her friend and what their
00:04:25.180 other friends were doing to law enforcement, not just ICE, law enforcement is outrageous.
00:04:31.960 The New York Post reporting Good got connected to Minnesota Ice Watch through her six-year-old son's
00:04:37.320 social justice-focused charter school. The Post describing Ice Watch as a, quote, loose coalition of
00:04:43.060 activists dedicated to disrupting ICE raids in the sanctuary city. The Minnesota Ice Watch,
00:04:48.740 Instagram account, remains public, linking to hundreds of posts containing community guidance,
00:04:54.020 encouragement, and legal resources for its followers. Ice Watch instructing its activists
00:04:59.020 to let the so-called victim, meaning the criminal illegal immigrant, into their own car, block the
00:05:06.260 cars of the, quote, kidnappers, meaning ICE, with multiple civilian cars, and, quote, ask white witnesses
00:05:13.380 to put their bodies in front of the person that's being kidnapped. The account also sometimes providing
00:05:19.220 live reporting on the location of law enforcement officers throughout the city. These are methods to
00:05:24.880 stop ICE from catching and removing criminals, a disturbingly high number of whom are sex offenders
00:05:32.020 and child predators. Here's MK True Crime contributor and lifetime prosecutor Matt Murphy.
00:05:38.300 These are some of the people that are most dedicated to getting sex offenders arrested, putting them in
00:05:44.360 prison, and then ultimately deporting them if they're not here legally, right? And in 2023,
00:05:50.440 ICE arrested 4,396 sex offenders. It's a part of their job. That was the last year of Joe Biden.
00:05:58.900 And nobody said a frigging word because back then, shockingly, we all kind of agreed it's a bit of a
00:06:05.320 bipartisan issue. We're going to protect kids who aren't political at all. Children deserve the protection of
00:06:11.460 all adults, regardless of what side of the political aisle they are on, right? So in 2024, last year,
00:06:18.280 first year of President Trump, ICE arrested 16,552 sex offenders. And that is their priority. They
00:06:27.000 had a special operation in the state of Florida called Operation Dirtbag. And that's the federal
00:06:33.300 law enforcement officials, the women and men that do that are critical to protecting our kids.
00:06:39.000 National Review reporting on guidance from the ICE Watch account on how to, quote,
00:06:43.560 de-arrest these individuals after they've been arrested by law enforcement by, quote,
00:06:48.920 physically removing an arrestee from a law enforcement officer's grip. Law enforcement
00:06:54.040 officials repeatedly warning, this guidance is dumb. What they say is it's not protected protest.
00:07:00.880 It's illegal and it's dangerous. Here, a flashback to Chicago Police Chief Larry Snelling last October.
00:07:07.540 Federal agents, ICE, HSI, are officers. They are agents of law enforcement. If you box them in
00:07:17.460 with vehicles, it is reasonable for them to believe that they are being ambushed and that this could end
00:07:25.120 in a deadly situation. And it's reasonable for them to use force based on those conditions.
00:07:32.440 Do not box in any law enforcement officers. You are breaking the law when you do that.
00:07:40.720 And you are putting yourself in danger following law enforcement agents around. The question is,
00:07:48.160 why? What do you plan on doing? It's also reasonable for them to believe that you're eventually going to
00:07:55.440 do harm to them. Two Democrat-led states, Illinois and Minnesota, launching separate lawsuits
00:08:02.420 yesterday against the Trump administration relating to ongoing federal immigration enforcement
00:08:07.140 efforts. The state of Illinois, as well as the city of Chicago, filing suit in the Northern
00:08:11.780 District of Illinois accusing U.S. Customs and Border Protection of occupying the city and state in order
00:08:17.620 to, quote, coerce plaintiffs to abandon their policies, which value and respect the state's
00:08:23.300 immigrants and devote their resources to further the immigration policies of the current administration.
00:08:28.640 Illinois state law restricts police from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement,
00:08:33.940 drawing the ire of the administration. More from the filing, quote,
00:08:37.860 the federal government's menacing, violent, and unlawful incursion impedes Illinois and Chicago
00:08:43.180 from carrying out core sovereign functions in violation of the Tenth Amendment. Illinois is seeking
00:08:49.040 a court order barring CBP from carrying out civil immigration enforcement in the state.
00:08:54.040 The latest move coming after months of legal conflict with the Trump administration over
00:08:58.960 immigration enforcement. In September, the Fed's launching Operation Midway Blitz,
00:09:04.060 a sweeping surge targeting criminal illegal aliens. DHS officials reporting the surge has netted
00:09:10.240 thousands of arrests in the months since, despite public resistance from state and local officials.
00:09:16.220 DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responding in a statement, quote,
00:09:20.480 This is a baseless lawsuit, and we look forward to proving that in court.
00:09:24.440 In Minnesota, Attorney General Keith Ellison, a Democrat, filing a lawsuit on behalf of the state
00:09:29.820 and cities Minneapolis and St. Paul against DHS. The Trump administration in December beginning
00:09:36.060 the surge of thousands of immigration agents and investigators into the region, responding to
00:09:41.500 widespread allegations of fraud committed by the Somali immigrant community. Tensions escalating
00:09:47.260 following an incident last week involving an ICE agent fatally shooting a woman disobeying police
00:09:52.720 commands to exit her vehicle and instead driving her car into the alarmed officer. A.G. Ellison
00:09:59.320 referring to the DHS crackdown yesterday in a press briefing as, quote, in essence, a federal
00:10:04.840 invasion. More from Ellison on the lawsuit. This has to stop. It just has to stop. We allege that the
00:10:12.480 obvious targeting of Minnesota for our diversity, for our democracy, and our differences of opinion
00:10:19.960 with the federal government is a violation of the Constitution and of federal law. We allege that
00:10:26.980 the surge reckless impact on our schools, on our local law enforcement is a violation of the 10th
00:10:33.120 Amendment and the sovereign laws and powers of the Constitution grants to states. We allege that DHS's use of the
00:10:42.460 excessive and excessive and lethal force. They're warrantless racist arrests. They're targeting of
00:10:49.080 our courts, our churches, houses of worship, and schools are a violation of the Administrative
00:10:55.040 Procedures Act on arbitrary and capricious federal actions. And we ask that the courts will end the
00:11:03.640 surge of thousands of DHS agents into Minnesota. A White House spokesperson calling the lawsuit a, quote,
00:11:10.000 pathetic stunt that only proves that Democrats will put illegal criminals over hard-working Americans
00:11:15.480 every time, according to Axios. Coming up, the suspect in a gruesome double murder of the Tepe family
00:11:23.580 makes his first appearance in court. And Facebook parent company Meta hires a Trump admin alum for a key
00:11:30.520 new role. What's happening at Meta?

00:12:43.860 An Illinois surgeon accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife, 39-year-old Monique Tepe, and her
00:12:52.600 husband, 37-year-old Spencer, inside their Columbus home, set to be extradited back to Ohio to face
00:12:59.800 aggravated murder charges. Michael McKee appearing in an Illinois courtroom on Monday, waiving his right to
00:13:06.040 an extradition hearing. His public defender indicating McKee intends to submit a not-guilty plea.
00:13:11.960 Authorities arresting McKee on Sunday night, nearly two weeks after the grisly Tepe murder captivating
00:13:18.220 the country. The gruesome story beginning on December 30th, when Spencer did not show up to
00:13:23.580 the office where he worked as a dentist. Spencer's unexcused absence raising concerns among his
00:13:28.960 co-workers. Hear the 911 audio from Dr. Mark Valros, owner of the dental practice, requesting a wellness
00:13:36.480 check at the Tepe home. This individual, Spencer, works with me, and he did not show up to work this
00:13:41.680 morning, and we cannot get ahold of him or his family. Like, he is always on time, and he would
00:13:45.980 contact us if there was any issues whatsoever. And he, I just don't know how else to say this, like,
00:13:53.900 we're very, very concerned because this is very out of character. And we can't get in touch with his
00:13:58.000 wife, which is probably the more concerning thing. Police conducting that wellness check,
00:14:01.940 but reportedly initially going to the wrong address. Friends and colleagues continuing to
00:14:07.120 check up on the home, some reporting to 911 that they could hear the children, a four-year-old and
00:14:12.460 a one-year-old, inside the house. Spencer's friend, Alex Diddy, then following up with another 911 call.
00:14:19.680 What's going on there?
00:14:21.680 There's a body. Our friend wasn't entering his phone. We just came here, and he appears dead.
00:14:30.600 There's blood. He's laying next to his bed, off of his bed, and there's blood. I can't get closer to
00:14:36.960 see more than that.
00:14:38.220 Okay, so you can tell he's obviously not breathing or anything?
00:14:40.560 Yeah, yeah.
00:14:41.820 Around 10 a.m., police finding the Teppes deceased in their home. Authorities discovering the children
00:14:47.340 unharmed. Investigators say the killings likely happened in the early morning hours of December
00:14:52.540 30th, recovering three shell casings from the home. Surveillance footage near the scene showing
00:14:58.120 a person of interest wearing a hood walking in an alleyway near the scene on the night of the murders.
00:15:04.260 Court filings indicating detectives identified a vehicle spotted near the Teppes residence just
00:15:09.600 before and after the murders. Police tracing that vehicle to Rockford, Illinois, and identifying
00:15:15.720 McKee as its owner. Authorities arresting McKee on Saturday morning. McKee and Monique married in
00:15:22.500 2015, before reportedly divorcing just two years later, amicably, in 2017. They shared no children.
00:15:29.980 Monique marrying Spencer in 2021. A family member telling a local outlet the couple was just shy of
00:15:35.880 their five-year anniversary. Investigators have not yet indicated a motive behind the slayings.
00:15:41.000 Shortly before the extradition hearing, prosecutors upgrading the charges to two counts of aggravated
00:15:46.720 murder with premeditation. McKee's charges carrying the possibility of the death penalty,
00:15:52.180 though Ohio has not carried out an execution since 2018. McKee's public defender indicating the
00:15:58.280 defendant could be transferred to Ohio as early as this week. We spoke with MK True Crime host
00:16:04.080 Jonna Spilboer about this case and what's next when McKee makes it to Ohio. He's going to face
00:16:10.220 the same procedures that any other defendant faces. And the first thing that he will do is be arraigned
00:16:15.920 on the charges. And right now, the charges are two counts of murder. So from there, I would be so
00:16:24.160 surprised if they set any sort of bail because he's not from Ohio. He's from a neighboring state. And if he
00:16:30.980 doesn't have any contacts or meaningful contact in Ohio, it's highly likely that he would be a flight
00:16:40.040 risk. And that is what a bail setting is primarily about. So I expect that following the arraignment,
00:16:47.720 he will be sitting inside an eight by 10 cement cell in Ohio. Spilboer reacting to prosecutors
00:16:54.800 upgrading the charges to aggravated murder. So if they have the right guy, here's the premeditation.
00:17:00.960 He had to leave his home in Illinois, get himself over to Ohio, do so in the middle of the night when
00:17:11.580 typically you do not think you're going to be discovered or seen by others, carry a weapon, a gun, shoot
00:17:20.360 the two victims, leave, get back to Illinois under the cover of darkness. That's got premeditation all
00:17:29.920 over. And, and let's factor in for a minute. The fact that since we don't know whether there was an
00:17:35.780 ongoing relationship between Mr. McKee and any of the Tepe's, we also have to figure that the seven
00:17:43.700 years that he was not married to her contributed to this notion of premeditation. With many questions
00:17:52.020 still swirling about what could have motivated the alleged suspect to commit such an act and what
00:17:57.260 evidence prosecutors have connecting McKee to the crime, Spilboer drawing a parallel to another
00:18:03.420 recent high profile multiple murder. They're going to start getting phone records. That's usually the
00:18:09.180 very next step. There will probably be some sort of DNA at the scene that will be critical. I know
00:18:15.900 this case is not the same as the Brian Koberger case, but it's sure it's got some similar elements.
00:18:22.340 When Brian Koberger was first contacted by police, they had basically identified a similar car,
00:18:29.800 number one, that's the first dot that they connected. And then they did the genetic genealogy,
00:18:35.380 which was the second dot they connected. And even then, I think there were some people who
00:18:39.860 weren't a hundred percent sure that it was going to end up being him. But our technology is such now
00:18:46.340 that they already have a couple of those dots connected in this case against McKee, and they're
00:18:52.440 just going to keep on collecting the evidence to connect those dots. The MK True Crime crew will
00:18:57.700 have more on this story on their show tomorrow. Search MK True Crime in your podcast app.
00:19:05.480 Facebook parent company Meta hiring a new president and vice chairman with extensive ties to MAGA world.
00:19:12.300 Dina Powell-McCormick, who spent 16 years in senior leadership roles at Goldman Sachs and

00:19:29.580 Axios noting Powell-McCormick's hiring signals a strategic shift at Meta, moving beyond its core ad
