00:01:36.780 Masa chips contain just three ingredients.

00:02:36.080 Treasury Secretary Scott Besant sitting down with the New York Times' Andrew Ross Sorkin at the New York Times Dealbook Summit for a wide-ranging conversation yesterday.
00:02:48.480 The typically calm and measured secretary at times getting heated with the journalist, challenging him on several issues.
00:02:55.700 In one particularly fiery moment, Secretary Besant slamming the New York Times for a recent report headlined, quote,
00:03:03.840 Shorter Days, Signs of Fatigue, Trump Faces Realities of Aging in Office.
00:03:09.720 The Times analyzing the president's schedule, finding, quote,
00:03:12.900 Mr. Trump has fewer public events on his schedule and is traveling domestically much less than he did by this point during his first year in office in 2017,
00:03:21.540 although he is taking more foreign trips.
00:03:23.580 He also keeps a shorter public schedule than he used to.
00:03:26.500 Most of his public appearances fall between noon and 5 p.m. on average.
00:03:30.920 Where was this intrepid reporting when President Biden would go days without any appearances
00:03:35.620 or spent long weekends napping on a beach in Delaware?
00:03:39.600 Secretary Besant yesterday.
00:03:41.700 The New York Times is no longer the paper of record.
00:03:44.320 I read this article, like, President Trump is slowing down.
00:03:47.140 It is 100 percent fake that he only called me twice at 2 in the morning last week instead of three times.
00:03:56.560 You're saying he called you.
00:03:57.200 I believe that he called you at 2 or 3 in the morning.
00:03:58.980 That whole narrative, you had what was one of the greatest scandals of all time,
00:04:06.320 that the coverage of the Biden administration, Joe Biden's diminished capacity, and the cover-up.
00:04:12.720 And that's why it's probably fair to raise these questions.
00:04:14.960 Where was the New York Times?
00:04:16.240 We just had a three-hour cabinet meeting yesterday, Andrew.
00:04:19.420 For 10 months, the Biden administration did not have a cabinet meeting.
00:04:24.040 How are you going to invoke the 25th Amendment if the cabinet secretaries never see the president,
00:04:30.960 which they didn't?
00:04:32.380 I hear from people in the Treasury Building that I see President Trump more in a day
00:04:37.500 than my predecessor saw Joe Biden in half a year.
00:04:42.360 Sorkin pressing Besson on recent reporting that President Trump pushed for Paramount
00:04:47.360 to greenlight buddy comedy Rush Hour 4 as it attempts to buy Warner Bros.
00:04:52.460 in a deal that would ultimately require regulatory approval.
00:04:56.360 Brett Ratner, who directed a forthcoming documentary about Melania Trump
00:05:00.240 set to debut on Amazon Prime Video, is the director of the Rush Hour movies.
00:05:05.600 Besson then flipping the script on Sorkin.
00:05:08.480 And people look at this and think that this is an example that the president is trying to push
00:05:12.260 him and they are trying to placate the president.
00:05:15.840 What do you think of that?
00:05:17.340 Not much.
00:05:19.260 That a transaction of that size would be...
00:05:23.520 But do you think it's appropriate for the president to be asking them to do something like that?
00:05:27.600 I don't know.
00:05:28.360 Is the Obama's contract with Netflix, is that appropriate?
00:05:32.380 My understanding is that came after he was the president of the United States.
00:05:37.340 Okay.
00:05:37.860 So for the first son to have a contract with the, with a Ukraine energy?
00:05:44.400 Well, and Don Jr. has a relationship.
00:05:46.840 I don't know where Shane is, at Polymarket and with Kalshi.
00:05:50.000 And so it's very complex.
00:05:51.040 I mean, I'm curious how you think about these things.
00:05:53.520 These things are very complicated.
00:05:56.160 And I think, you know, if you want to start pulling at every thread, then let's start pulling
00:06:01.360 at every thread of where Chuck Schumer's children work.
00:06:05.060 Let's start pulling at every thread where every one of his former staffers work.
00:06:09.080 Secretary Bessent also elaborating more on the administration's vision for the Trump
00:06:13.800 Accounts Program to kickstart savings and economic participation for children.
00:06:19.080 Earlier this week, the Dell family making a historic first contribution, announcing plans
00:06:24.580 to deposit $250 directly into the investment accounts of millions of American kids.
00:06:31.280 10% of Americans own 88% of the equities.
00:06:34.320 And then the balance, if you go down to 50, the other 12%, and that's mostly through
00:06:39.020 401ks.
00:06:40.720 You know, what we're seeing now, we've seen this asset appreciation.
00:06:45.220 In America, you either have assets or you don't.
00:06:48.660 And I think that this is an opportunity for the American people, for everyone, to have
00:06:56.500 a stake in the system.
00:06:58.300 When you see that people have a stake in the system, they don't want to bring the system
00:07:03.100 down.
00:07:03.480 I believe that we are going to see this incredible outpouring into these accounts.
00:07:09.740 And we now have the greatest fortunes in the history of America.
00:07:14.000 And this is the chance that because this had been talked about for a long time, and President
00:07:21.020 Trump insisted on it being included in the one big, beautiful bill, that this is the opportunity
00:07:26.240 for philanthropists, for foundations, and for corporates to contribute to all the American
00:07:34.020 children.
00:07:35.000 The Trump Accounts program is set to activate in July.
00:07:39.660 Democrats on the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday releasing a set of pictures and
00:07:44.100 videos taken of Jeffrey Epstein's private Caribbean island.
00:07:48.000 This release offering a rare look inside the twisted world of the disgraced financier.
00:07:52.620 The Oversight Committee obtaining the images from the U.S. Virgin Islands DOJ as part of
00:07:58.120 its investigation into the handling of the Epstein case.
00:08:01.580 The images of Little St. James, one of two private islands Epstein owned in the Caribbean,
00:08:06.840 taken in 2020 by U.S. Virgin Island authorities.
00:08:10.820 Most of the images are unremarkable.
00:08:13.060 Several videos show off the large grounds, a pool with multiple cabanas, a no trespassing
00:08:17.880 sign.
00:08:18.280 One image showing a large library-type room with a blackboard, scribbled on in chalk with
00:08:24.540 the words including power, plots, deception, and political.
00:08:29.240 The creepiest photo, showing what appears to be a dentist's chair in a room with ten masks
00:08:35.380 depicting various male faces hanging on the walls, with two more masks laying side by side
00:08:41.660 on a countertop.
00:08:42.960 The images are available on megankelly.com.
00:08:46.160 The files released to the committee in response to a November letter from the U.S. Virgin Islands
00:08:51.180 Attorney General requesting, quote, all documents and communications related to the federal or
00:08:56.780 local investigations into Epstein or co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell.
00:09:02.080 Ranking member of the committee Robert Garcia issuing a statement, quote, we are releasing
00:09:06.440 these photos and videos to ensure public transparency in our investigation and to help piece together
00:09:12.120 the full picture of Epstein's horrific crimes.
00:09:15.340 A Republican spokesperson for the committee telling Axios, it's odd that Democrats are
00:09:19.820 once again releasing selective information as they have done before.
00:09:23.520 The last time Democrats cherry-picked and doctored documents, their attempt to construct yet another
00:09:28.820 hoax against President Trump completely collapsed.
00:09:31.560 These images, coming as a bipartisan group of five lawmakers yesterday, request a briefing
00:09:36.760 from Attorney General Pam Bondi on the status of the DOJ's effort to release the Epstein files.
00:09:42.580 President Trump signing the Epstein files Transparency Act on November 19th, setting a 30-day deadline
00:09:49.300 for the public release of all unclassified records, documents, materials, etc. in the DOJ and FBI's
00:09:55.880 possession regarding Epstein and those who had ties to him.
00:09:59.460 Coming up, DHS agents flock to New Orleans, the latest city in the Trump administration's
00:10:07.340 illegal immigration crackdown, and a doctor sentenced in connection with Friends actor Matthew Perry's
00:10:12.860 death.
00:10:17.660 When customers are walking through the aisles of their local Walmart, they are not just picking
00:10:22.840 up groceries or supplies, they are supporting American businesses and their communities.
00:10:27.680 The real story is what's behind the label.
00:10:30.580 With over two-thirds of the products Walmart buys made, grown, or assembled right here in
00:10:34.620 the U.S., buying local is not just stocking shelves.
00:10:38.360 It's about strengthening communities.
00:10:40.860 Because of that commitment, Walmart invested $350 billion in U.S. manufacturing, helping American
00:10:46.720 companies like Fisher and Weezer Specialty Foods, that's a local Texas business, expand their
00:10:51.640 operations in Fredericksburg, Texas, to hire more people and bring their Texas-grown peach
00:10:56.860 jam to a national market.
00:10:59.080 Their story is just one example of how Walmart's U.S. manufacturing investment is supporting over
00:11:03.820 750,000 American jobs.
00:11:06.640 Businesses across the country are empowered to sell more, hire more, and help their communities
00:11:11.380 grow.
00:11:12.160 From farms to factories to final shopping carts, learn how Walmart is fueling the future of U.S.
00:11:17.520 manufacturing at walmart.com slash americaatwork.
00:11:23.160 On Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security officially launching its latest immigration
00:11:28.420 crackdown.
00:11:29.520 This one, in New Orleans, dubbed Operation Catahoula Crunch.
00:11:34.540 DHS Assistant Secretary Trisha McLaughlin yesterday on CNN describing the nature of the mission.
00:11:40.420 We're first and foremost really focusing on those worst of the worst criminals, those criminals
00:11:44.840 who have previously been locked up by local authorities, but then, because New Orleans
00:11:49.460 functions as a sanctuary city, those individuals were not released to ICE, they were instead
00:11:54.580 released back onto New Orleans streets.
00:11:56.680 So we're talking about child pedophiles who are on our list of targets, burglars, gang members,
00:12:03.440 rapists.
00:12:04.200 Those individuals we are highly targeting, and we will continue whether it be 5,000 arrests
00:12:08.680 or beyond.
00:12:09.500 In advance of federal agents swooping into the Big Easy, DHS putting out a list highlighting
00:12:15.060 a few examples of the types of offenders previously released back onto the streets by local officials
00:12:21.500 in Louisiana.
00:12:22.800 The list, including Juan Ramon Dubon Argueta, arrested for aggravated assault child endangerment,
00:12:30.260 Kisi Ani Ahmad Albasani, arrested for sexual battery, and Andres Lopez Castillejos, previously
00:12:37.300 deported, four times arrested for domestic abuse child endangerment.
00:12:42.800 New Orleans residents anticipating the launch of an operation in their community.
00:12:47.580 Some businesses closing, others posting anti-ICE signs.
00:12:52.020 As in many other cities, local activists rallying against the enforcement effort, passing out whistles
00:12:57.940 to alert others to the presence of ICE officials operating in the area.
00:13:01.840 Mayor-elect Elena Moreno, a Democrat on CNN, accusing the feds of racial profiling.
00:13:08.440 What they're seeing on TV and reports that they're seeing is not that Border Patrol is
00:13:14.780 going after the most violent criminals.
00:13:18.560 You know, it's not, that's not what they're seeing.
00:13:20.520 What they're seeing is what appears to be racial profiling of brown people and then going
00:13:26.860 after these individuals and treating them like they are these significantly violent offenders.
00:13:33.240 On the flip side, Republican Governor Jeff Landry, Monday on Fox, welcoming federal assistance.
00:13:39.680 New Orleans is a crime-ridden city that we've been trying to keep people safe.
00:13:44.340 It's something that we've been working on since I became governor here in Louisiana.
00:13:48.060 What I don't understand is when fugitive apprehension teams around the country go in and take dangerous
00:13:55.580 criminals off the street, we applaud them.
00:13:59.140 We should be doing the same thing here.
00:14:01.240 Just because someone is committing crimes and is in the country illegally, they get a pass?
00:14:07.560 That's what Democrats are saying.
00:14:09.780 It's ridiculous.
00:14:11.120 I'm welcoming them to come in.
00:14:13.060 We're going to take these dangerous criminals off the streets in Louisiana.
00:14:16.400 The governor in September requesting up to 1,000 National Guard troops in assistance.
00:14:22.460 President Trump saying on Tuesday, soldiers will soon be deployed.
00:14:26.860 It is unclear how long the operation is expected to last.
00:14:31.300 A doctor who pleaded guilty to supplying Friends actor Matthew Perry with ketamine weeks before
00:14:36.800 his death, sentenced to 30 months in prison, plus two years of unsupervised release, a $5,600
00:14:44.020 fine and a $400 special assessment.
00:14:47.700 Perry paid Dr. Salvador Plasencia about $57,000 for the ketamine, which he sought out after doctors
00:14:54.320 at a local ketamine therapy clinic refused to increase his dosage.
00:14:58.600 In the Los Angeles courtroom, the New York Times reporting Plasencia saying, quote, there is
00:15:03.540 no excuse, turning to Perry's family to say, quote, I'm just so sorry.
00:15:08.720 Perry overdosed on the drug in October 2023 at age 54.
00:15:12.320 He was found unresponsive in the jacuzzi at his L.A. home after a lifelong struggle with
00:15:17.720 addiction.
00:15:18.760 The medical examiner ruling the cause of death, acute effects of ketamine.
00:15:23.160 Plasencia, who ran an urgent care center in Southern California, pleading guilty to four
00:15:27.540 counts of distribution of ketamine, a powerful anesthetic.
00:15:31.480 Prosecutors say he repeatedly supplied Perry with the drug over several weeks.
00:15:36.000 Plasencia is one of five people charged in connection to Perry's death in the first to face
00:15:40.360 sentencing. According to the DOJ, once Plasencia learned of Perry's interest in obtaining ketamine,
00:15:46.400 he reached out to another doctor, Mark Chavez, who ran a ketamine clinic to obtain the drug.
00:15:51.780 Plasencia, texting Chavez, who was also charged in connection to the death, stating, quote,
00:15:56.600 I wonder how much this moron will pay.
00:15:59.260 Let's find out.
00:16:00.520 Plasencia and Chavez both gave up their medical licenses following their convictions.
00:16:04.440 Chavez also set for sentencing this month. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
00:16:13.360 That'll do it for your AM update. I'm Emily Jashinsky, host of After Party.
