00:00:33.060 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly.

00:00:35.480 It's Friday, July 4th, 2025.

00:00:38.980 Happy Independence Day.

00:00:41.180 And this is your AM update.

00:00:43.180 Any of these individual achievements would be historic victories

00:00:46.120 for a Republican Congress or any Congress.

00:00:48.760 And today we're delivering on all of them.

00:00:51.300 House Republicans passing President Trump's one big, beautiful bill

00:00:55.780 just in the nick of time, delivering the signature legislation to the White House

00:00:59.960 for the July 4th celebrations.

00:01:02.580 This job market is like the Energizer bunny.

00:01:05.120 Every single time we expect it to run out of steam, it just keeps going and going.

00:01:10.100 The latest jobs report blowing away expectations.

00:01:12.580 President Trump scores another win against the corporate media, CBS parent company Paramount,

00:01:19.120 agreeing to a settlement with the president in a case about 60 minutes,

00:01:22.800 selectively editing an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the election.

00:01:28.300 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM update.

00:01:31.260 It's time you've heard about Riverbend Ranch.

00:01:38.680 Riverbend Ranch is located just a few miles from West Yellowstone, Montana,

00:01:42.780 and is known as one of the most respected Angus ranches in the nation.

00:01:47.140 Angus beef is known for its great flavor and tenderness.

00:01:50.240 But the cattle at Riverbend Ranch are not your average Angus cattle.

00:01:53.740 Thirty-five years ago, using ultrasound technology, the owner of Riverbend Ranch

00:01:58.020 began scouring the nation to identify specific purebred Angus cows

00:02:02.580 that genetically produce a higher level of marbling and tenderness than normal Angus cattle.

00:02:08.040 After over 30 years of careful selection and breeding,

00:02:11.000 Riverbend Ranch developed beef that has superior flavor and tenderness.

00:02:15.240 They take great pride in the humane treatment of their herd.

00:02:18.440 The cattle spend their days in lush mountain meadows of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

00:02:21.960 And they're raised without the use of artificial growth hormones or antibiotics.

00:02:26.360 This is real American beef.

00:02:28.240 Born in America, raised in America, and processed in America. 0.77

00:02:31.380 And the beef is shipped directly from the ranch to your home.

00:02:47.660 The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 7-2 opinion, making clear to a federal district judge in Boston,

00:02:57.180 they tell him what to do, not the other way around.

00:03:00.760 Federal District Judge Brian Murphy of Massachusetts,

00:03:03.760 placed on the bench in President Biden's waning days in office,

00:03:06.980 in April, issuing a preliminary injunction that stopped the Trump administration from deporting

00:03:13.360 illegal immigrants to third countries, meaning countries from which they do not hail.

00:03:19.000 While the injunction was pending, the Trump administration appealed and also transported

00:03:24.080 eight men out of the U.S. en route to South Sudan.

00:03:28.040 In May, Judge Murphy held that was a violation of his injunction.

00:03:31.980 The government thus stopping the transport, temporarily holding the men in Djibouti.

00:03:37.840 The Supreme Court lifted that preliminary injunction,

00:03:40.740 allowing Trump's deportations to continue while the case plays out on the merits.

00:03:45.700 And then Judge Murphy tried to enjoin the deportations anyway,

00:03:50.800 saying that since the government had violated his injunction order in the first place,

00:03:55.500 he could still punish them by enforcing his now clearly invalid injunction order.

00:04:00.680 The government called this unprecedented defiance,

00:04:04.360 asking the Supreme Court to clarify its earlier ruling.

00:04:07.680 Late Thursday, the High Court made clear these deportations may resume,

00:04:12.400 including of the men in Djibouti.

00:04:14.820 The majority, which included the court's six conservatives and Justice Kagan, a liberal, held,

00:04:20.400 the May 21st order cannot be used to enforce an injunction that our stay rendered unenforceable.

00:04:26.580 Justice Kagan concurring, quote,

00:04:28.440 I do not see how a district court can compel compliance with an order that this court has stayed.

00:04:34.820 Justices Sotomayor and Jackson dissenting,

00:04:37.840 accusing the Trump administration of flouting the injunction and getting away with it, quote,

00:04:42.580 Today's order clarifies only one thing.

00:04:45.320 Other litigants must follow the rules, 1.00

00:04:47.460 but the administration has the Supreme Court on speed dial.

00:04:50.720 The House passing President Trump's one big, beautiful bill on Thursday,

00:04:57.180 following down-to-the-wire negotiations with several GOP holdouts,

00:05:01.200 weather delays as well, preventing representatives from returning to D.C.,

00:05:04.680 and hours and hours of Democrat stalling tactics.

00:05:08.360 The final vote clocking in at 218 to 214.

00:05:11.660 Republican Congressman Thomas Massey of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania

00:05:16.100 joining every Democrat in voting no.

00:05:19.560 The sounds from the House floor in the moments after the legislation passed.

00:05:23.780 On this vote, the yeas are 218, the nays are 214. 0.95

00:05:28.300 The motion is adopted.

00:05:29.840 USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

00:05:35.960 GOP leadership locking in Republican support to clear a procedural hurdle around 3.20 a.m. on Thursday morning.

00:05:42.740 Then around 5 a.m., House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries,

00:05:46.540 without any remaining hope of changing the outcome,

00:05:49.480 using his unlimited floor time to launch a last-bid stalling tactic.

00:05:54.340 Reading through multiple binders, slamming the bill, as well as his Republican colleagues.

00:05:59.120 Here's a sample of how that sounded.

00:06:01.460 Mr. Speaker, I rise today in strong opposition to Donald Trump's one big, ugly bill.

00:06:08.320 This disgusting abomination, the GOP tax scam.

00:06:11.960 A deportation machine that will be unleashed on steroids by this one big, ugly bill. 0.98

00:06:18.280 We want no part of it, which is why we're fighting so hard to stop it.

00:06:22.860 On behalf of every single American, I'm on this House floor after 6 a.m.,

00:06:30.220 and I'm planning to take my sweet time.

00:06:34.580 Inspiring.

00:06:35.180 Ultimately, Mr. Jeffries speaking for a total of 8 hours and 44 minutes,

00:06:40.500 setting a new record for longest speech in House history,

00:06:44.180 the previous record set by then-minority leader Kevin McCarthy in 2021.

00:06:48.640 Speaker Mike Johnson taking a victory lap following Mr. Jeffries' remarks.

00:06:53.040 You know, Ronald Reagan said one time that no speech should be longer than 20 minutes,

00:06:56.900 and unlike the Democrat leader, I'm going to honor my colleague's time

00:07:00.400 and be a little more brief than that, all right?

00:07:02.140 With one big, beautiful bill, we are going to make this country stronger,

00:07:07.360 safer, and more prosperous than ever before.

00:07:10.420 And every American is going to benefit from that.

00:07:13.760 This big, beautiful bill fulfills all the promises in the American First Agenda.

00:07:17.920 Record tax cuts for hard-working Americans.

00:07:21.280 Historic savings at the same time to end reckless spending.

00:07:25.120 We got energy dominance coming back to power our future.

00:07:28.960 We have a secure border to protect American families.

00:07:31.700 We have a strong military to restore peace through strength.

00:07:35.120 Law enforcement will have the help of a border wall now that's 100% complete.

00:07:40.140 Look, any of these individual achievements would be historic victories for a Republican Congress

00:07:44.420 or any Congress.

00:07:45.920 And today, we're delivering on all of them in one big, beautiful bill.

00:07:51.000 The bill, unchanged from the version passed by the Senate earlier this week,

00:07:55.860 delivering on no taxes on tips up to $25,000 a year,

00:08:00.420 no tax on overtime up to $12,500 for an individual,

00:08:04.860 permanently increasing the child tax credit,

00:08:07.540 rescinding billions in Green New Deal funding,

00:08:10.520 adding work requirements on Medicaid for able-bodied adults,

00:08:13.940 and providing a massive injection to the ICE budget to help with deportations.

00:08:18.380 Prior to the BBB, ICE funding hovering around $10 billion annually,

00:08:23.380 the BBB infusing the agency with more than $100 billion in funding through 2029.

00:08:29.360 That's money for thousands of new officers, 0.57

00:08:32.400 increasing illegal alien detention capacity,

00:08:35.160 and adding billions for transportation and removal,

00:08:38.160 all to facilitate President Trump's mass deportation program.

00:08:41.820 The president is set to sign the bill at the White House later today.

00:08:44.780 The U.S. economy added 147,000 jobs in June.

00:08:51.880 That was more than expected.

00:08:53.780 This is tied for the first best number of job creation of the year.

00:08:58.580 Jobless claims, much lower than expected.

00:09:00.800 Across the board here in the labor market, this is a pretty solid read.

00:09:04.200 This jobs market is like the Energizer bunny.

00:09:06.720 Every single time we expect it to run out of steam,

00:09:09.880 it just keeps going and going.

00:09:11.360 The latest jobs report coming in hotter than expected.

00:09:14.960 The U.S. adding 147,000 new jobs in the month of June,

00:09:18.760 surpassing projections of 110,000.

00:09:21.960 The unemployment rate dropping to 4.1 percent from 4.2 percent in May,

00:09:27.260 defying expectations that it would increase to 4.3 percent.

00:09:31.820 Markets surging in reaction.

00:09:34.060 The S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting new highs for the third time in four days.

00:09:38.280 Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt posting to X,

00:09:41.060 quote,

00:09:41.660 For the fourth month in a row,

00:09:44.000 jobs numbers have beat market expectations with nearly 150,000 good jobs created in June.

00:09:50.340 American-born workers have accounted for all of the job gains 0.99

00:09:54.420 since President Trump took office and wages continue to rise.

00:09:58.500 The economy is booming again,

00:10:00.560 and it will only get better when the one big beautiful bill is passed and implemented.

00:10:04.660 Coming up,

00:10:07.580 Paramount agrees to pay a $16 million settlement in a lawsuit brought by then-candidate Trump,

00:10:13.660 alleging deceptive editing of a 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

00:10:18.780 These days, it feels like everyone has an agenda.

00:10:26.220 The media, big tech.

00:10:27.740 But let me tell you about Ground News.

00:10:30.220 They do not filter the news.

00:10:51.620 If you're tired of being told what matters or what doesn't,

00:10:54.560 it might be time to take the power back.

00:11:19.140 CBS parent company Paramount Global agreeing to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit filed by then-candidate Trump in October 2024,

00:11:28.860 accusing the network of deceptively editing a 60 Minutes interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris just weeks before the 2024 election.

00:11:36.400 Mr. Trump taking issue with the edits, arguing they were designed to make the often rambling Ms. Harris sound more coherent to influence an election.

00:11:46.180 In one promotional clip, CBS airing a long and winding answer from Vice President Harris.

00:11:51.960 Does the U.S. have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?

00:11:57.140 I think that it is, without any question, our imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against those kinds of attacks.

00:12:06.180 Now, the work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles,

00:12:16.540 which include the need for humanitarian aid, the need for this war to end,

00:12:23.040 the need for a deal to be done which would release the hostages and create a ceasefire.

00:12:29.620 In the final version that aired on 60, the Vice President's answer was different and far more concise for her.

00:12:37.640 Does the U.S. have no sway over Prime Minister Netanyahu?

00:12:43.180 The work that we do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit around making clear our principles.

00:12:52.380 Mr. Trump's legal team filing the suit in Texas under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Consumer Protection Act

00:12:58.880 and the Federal Lanham Act, which governs false advertising and unfair competition.

00:13:03.660 The lawsuit, originally seeking $10 billion in damages, later raised to $20 billion,

00:13:08.420 alleging CBS, quote,

00:13:09.780 deceptively manipulated the interview in a manner calculated to make Harris appear coherent and decisive,

00:13:15.300 and thus the product more commercially appealing to defendants' audience.

00:13:18.660 CBS maintains the company did nothing wrong and will not issue an apology as part of the settlement agreement,

00:13:25.140 though going forward, it will now release full transcripts with presidential candidates after the interviews have aired.

00:13:32.100 The settlement fees will go toward Mr. Trump's legal costs and his future presidential library

00:13:37.760 and will not be paid to the president directly.

00:13:41.100 Many inside the network reportedly viewing the settlement as a setback for the First Amendment,

00:13:45.720 a move that some believe was less about the merits of the case and more about clearing the way for Paramount's impending high-stakes merger

00:13:53.260 with Skydance Media, a deal requiring approval from Trump-appointed chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr.

00:14:00.480 Paramount in a statement saying the settlement has nothing to do with the deal.

00:14:04.280 In April, amid settlement talks, 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens resigning from his post,

00:14:10.320 citing a lack of independence, writing in a staff memo,

00:14:13.460 Having defended this show and what we stand for from every angle, over time, with everything I could,

00:14:19.900 I am stepping aside so the show can move forward.

00:14:22.860 The show is too important to the country.

00:14:25.280 It has to continue, just not with me as executive producer.

00:14:28.900 Of course, Mr. Owens presided over an era at 60,

00:14:32.220 in which the show got progressively anti-Trump in its story selection and tone,

00:14:36.860 and drifted leftward in its approach to other stories,

00:14:39.720 like when it suggested that K-5 schools are not allowing sexually inappropriate materials in front of children,

00:14:47.300 something the U.S. Supreme Court just acknowledged is happening.

00:14:51.160 President Trump's legal team calling the settlement, quote,

00:14:53.460 another win for the American people,

00:14:55.360 as he once again holds the fake news media accountable for their wrongdoing and deceit.

00:14:59.880 And that'll do it on a busy AM update.
