00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Thursday, June 11th, 2026. And this is your
00:00:07.860 AM update. I hope my testimony is helpful to the work, important work of the committee
00:00:13.400 to find justice for the victims. Bill Gates testifies behind closed doors in the Epstein
00:00:18.940 probe, telling lawmakers Jeffrey Epstein tried to use Gates's extramarital affairs against
00:00:24.860 him. Inflation hits a three-year high as President Trump reveals new details about a U.S. military
00:00:31.000 effort to keep oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. Staff were instructed, quote,
00:00:36.540 do not reject contributions for a single suspicious characteristic. The CEO of Act Blue
00:00:43.080 pleads the fifth on Capitol Hill as Republicans investigate whether the Democratic fundraising
00:00:48.400 giant let illegal foreign money flow into U.S. elections, and a Somali World Cup referee blocked
00:00:56.320 from entering the USA after officials reportedly uncover terror-related concerns. All that and more
00:01:03.220 coming up in just a moment on your AM Update. Everybody's talking about weight loss injections
00:01:11.560 because the results can be so dramatic. They work by lowering blood sugar and reducing appetite.
00:01:16.860 But what if you're looking to lose weight, but you're not interested in painful weekly injections,
00:01:21.920 especially when you hear about some of those intense side effects? That's why doctors created
00:01:26.880 a weight loss supplement called Lean, and the results could be remarkable. Lean says the studied
00:01:33.240 ingredients in their product have been shown to lower your blood sugar, burn fat by converting
00:01:38.440 it into energy, and curb your appetite and cravings so you are not as hungry. But listen,
00:01:43.600 And lean is not for the casual dieter with only a few pounds to lose.
00:01:47.840 The doctors at Brickhouse Nutrition created lean for frustrated dieters with 10 or more pounds to lose.
00:01:53.660 You could get started with 20% off and free rush shipping, adding lean to your healthy diet and exercise plan.

00:02:07.140 Microsoft founder Bill Gates appearing behind closed doors before the House Oversight Committee
00:02:14.760 yesterday for a deposition tied to the panel's investigation into the DOJ's handling of the
00:02:20.840 Jeffrey Epstein case. Gates, not accused of a crime, testifying before the committee after
00:02:26.300 the Epstein files revealed he met and communicated with Epstein years after the disgraced financier's
00:02:32.880 2008 sex crime conviction, with those contacts centered, according to Gates, on potential
00:02:38.460 philanthropic work. AM Update previously reporting Gates admitted to meeting with Epstein
00:02:43.960 multiple times between 2011 and 2014, and that Epstein knew about some of Gates' extramarital
00:02:51.280 affairs. The Epstein files also reportedly including more than 1,000 emails connected to
00:02:57.220 Gates, his foundation, or people who worked for him. Gates previously apologizing for the
00:03:03.140 association, telling Gates Foundation employees earlier this year that meeting with Epstein was
00:03:08.260 a mistake, while insisting he, quote, did nothing illicit and saw no criminal activity. Gates
00:03:14.920 appearing before the committee voluntarily, speaking to reporters before the meeting.
00:03:19.280 I'm glad to be here voluntarily to testify to help with the committee's work. I'll start with
00:03:26.360 an opening statement in the hearing room. I hope my testimony is helpful to the important work of
00:03:34.240 the committee to find justice for the victims. Thank you. According to prepared remarks obtained
00:03:40.180 by the Wall Street Journal, Gates telling lawmakers Epstein discovered Gates had had
00:03:45.160 affairs during his marriage and then tried to use that information against him. Gates saying,
00:03:50.480 quote, these affairs had nothing to do with my interactions with Epstein,
00:03:53.500 but they were painful for my family. During questioning, the journal reporting Gates told
00:03:58.720 lawmakers he had sexual encounters with three women, two Russians and a third woman who was
00:04:04.540 an American doctor, and that one of Gates' mutual contacts with Epstein knew about it.
00:04:10.420 Gates telling the committee he cut off contact with Epstein in 2014 after concluding Epstein was
00:04:16.140 not going to deliver on his promises to help raise money for Gates' global health work.
00:04:21.820 Gates saying Epstein tried to use information about Gates' infidelities
00:04:25.420 to pressure him back into Epstein's orbit.
00:04:28.700 Gates adding Epstein was unsuccessful,
00:04:31.480 but said the episode showed, quote,
00:04:33.220 some of the ways Epstein tried to leverage his interactions with me
00:04:36.680 to further his agenda.
00:04:38.860 Congressman Tim Burchett, Republican from Tennessee,
00:04:41.500 speaking to reporters during the Gates deposition.
00:04:44.460 It's pretty clear to me, though, that Epstein was a friend collector.
00:04:47.000 You know, he just liked to have people around him that were big deal
00:04:51.320 and get his picture made with them and hang out with them,
00:04:54.540 and I think that's how he reeled them in.
00:04:56.600 So is there anything that you're learning then during this testimony
00:04:59.300 that you think could change the course of the investigation,
00:05:03.180 lead to new convictions, anything that kind of advances where we already stand?
00:05:08.300 Of course, Mr. Gates is very couched in his replies,
00:05:12.500 and, I mean, he's very well coached too.
00:05:14.000 He's got great attorneys, I assume.
00:05:15.600 me. He's probably made more money in interest since more than all of us will make in a year
00:05:20.420 just in this time I'm talking to you. So I don't know that we'll gather too much from this,
00:05:25.520 actually. Gates, for his part, telling lawmakers he did not, quote,
00:05:29.460 fully understand the extent of Epstein's crimes when they first met. He also repeated that
00:05:35.340 meeting with Epstein was, quote, a grave error in judgment, putting the reputation and work of
00:05:40.480 the Gates Foundation at risk. But Gates insisting he never witnessed Epstein engage in criminal
00:05:46.340 conduct and never had any indication that criminal conduct was ongoing, nor, he said,
00:05:51.640 did he ever visit Epstein's island, New Mexico ranch or Florida home. Congressman Robert Garcia,
00:05:58.140 Democrat from California, telling reporters Gates's testimony raised more questions about
00:06:03.760 who else the committee made need to hear from. So far, Mr. Gates has been cooperative in answering
00:06:09.120 our questions. Mr. Gates has discussed and provided us information about other folks that
00:06:14.300 were in Mr. Epstein's orbit, which we want to discuss with. He didn't mention a few names of
00:06:19.200 folks involved within the Gates Foundation or the Gates Orbit that we're interested in speaking with.
00:06:24.440 He also reiterated some names of folks that we have heard before. I'll just say, for example,
00:06:30.340 Larry Summers, of which he was involved with in other meetings with Mr. Epstein or other
00:06:35.740 activities who we haven't spoken with. And look, Mr. Summers is someone that we have this committee
00:06:40.980 has not had a chance to speak with that we would like to speak with. It seems that his name
00:06:46.280 continues to come up. And Larry Summers, not the only name under discussion. Chairman Comer also
00:06:52.680 saying he is looking to bring in Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz and that he's been in contact with
00:06:57.980 the Justice Department about possible testimony from acting attorney general Todd Blanche.
00:07:02.760 The committee expected to release a transcript of the Gates deposition in the coming days.
00:07:09.480 Consumer prices rising at the fastest annual pace in three years as the war with Iran keeps
00:07:15.720 leading to increased energy costs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly inflation report,
00:07:22.180 known as the Consumer Price Index, or CPI, tracks what Americans are paying across the economy
00:07:28.160 for things like groceries, rent, gas, electricity, and more.
00:07:32.500 In May, prices rising 0.5%, that's since April,
00:07:37.100 pushing the annual inflation rate to 4.2%.
00:07:40.420 This marks the first time inflation increased to more than 4% in three years,
00:07:45.620 hitting the highest rate since April of 2023.
00:07:48.960 However, when stripping out volatile food and energy prices,
00:07:52.260 so-called core inflation, rising just 0.2% for the month
00:07:56.920 and 2.9% compared to a year ago. Shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz remain
00:08:03.040 the key driver behind increasing energy prices. Brent oil prices, the international benchmark for
00:08:09.320 oil prices, that refers to oil from fields in the North Sea between the UK and Scandinavia,
00:08:15.720 jumping again in the early hours of yesterday morning after the president warned Iran on
00:08:20.700 Truth Social, quote, Iran is all talk and no action. The bully of the Middle East is dead. 0.91
00:08:26.480 They've taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them. 0.99
00:08:29.960 Now they will have to pay the price.
00:08:32.260 Mr. Trump asked about the latest inflation numbers yesterday during an unrelated White
00:08:36.780 House event, countering that actually he loves the new inflation report.
00:08:41.300 Make a service to President about the latest inflation number, which came out this morning.
00:08:45.800 Could that be?
00:08:46.240 No, I love it.
00:08:47.180 The numbers were great.
00:08:48.820 You know what I really love?
00:08:49.980 I love the inflation.
00:08:51.040 You know why?
00:08:51.800 Because as soon as this war is over, you know, I can say it now.
00:08:56.760 Something you didn't know.
00:08:57.740 Do you know we've been taking out millions of barrels of oil?
00:09:02.540 Nobody knows it.
00:09:03.580 You know who doesn't know about it?
00:09:05.200 Iran, until right now. 0.84
00:09:07.280 We took out the other night 22 ships, late at night, with no lights, 1.00
00:09:11.840 because they don't have any radar, because we've blasted the crap out of it.
00:09:15.520 Millions of barrels of oil has come out.
00:09:18.400 That's why it said $85, $90 a barrel instead of $250.
00:09:21.640 But we have the greatest military in the world, the toughest military in the world, just the best in every way.
00:09:29.440 Nobody even close.
00:09:30.620 The president elaborating further in a follow-up post on Truth Social.
00:09:35.020 Quote, last month, I directed our great U.S. military to execute a secret mission to support oil tankers and other commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
00:09:44.360 Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 million
00:09:49.540 barrels of oil making its way through the strait and into the open market.
00:09:54.900 Oil prices dropping shortly after the announcement before bouncing back up,
00:09:59.460 closing the day at $94.60. That's up two bucks from the day's open, per the Financial Times.
00:10:07.980 Coming up, the Democrat Party's fundraising machine under fire as ActBlue's CEO
00:10:13.660 pleads the fifth before Congress over allegations of weak fraud controls.
00:10:19.540 And a Somali World Cup referee denied entry into the U.S.
00:10:24.060 after border officials flagged possible terror-related concerns.
00:10:34.700 For the first time since World War II,
00:10:37.740 our national debt has exceeded the gross domestic product.
00:10:42.980 America's reckless government spending keeps catching up with us.
00:10:45.780 Higher inflation, higher prices, higher cost of living expenses,
00:10:48.680 and higher interest payments on the national debt.
00:10:51.780 Every dollar Washington spends on interest is a dollar it has to tax, borrow, or print.
00:10:56.640 Smart retirement planners prepare for potential setbacks,
00:10:59.420 and they can do that by diversifying with a time-tested asset known for weathering the storm.
00:11:05.160 Consider physical gold from Birch Gold Group.
00:11:08.220 Text MK to the number 989898 and Birch Gold will send you a free info kit on converting
00:11:13.760 an existing IRA or 401k into a tax-sheltered IRA and physical gold.
00:11:18.980 You don't pull the ripcord on your parachute once you've already hit the ground.
00:11:23.360 Don't wait for economic turbulence to diversify.
00:11:26.100 Text MK to the number 989898 and consider owning some gold from Birch Gold.
00:11:31.920 the ceo of democrat fundraising engine act blue regina wallace jones refusing to answer questions
00:11:41.360 and pleading the fifth amendment on capitol hill yesterday as house republicans investigate whether
00:11:46.860 the platform allowed illegal foreign donations to flow into federal campaigns the massive
00:11:53.100 fundraising site processing roughly 19 billion in donations since its founding in 2004 with
00:11:59.160 thousands of candidates and left-wing organizations benefiting from millions of donors.
00:12:04.720 Since 2023, ActBlue under investigation by multiple Republican-led House committees
00:12:09.740 after viral reporting from independent journalist James O'Keefe
00:12:13.560 alleged suspicious donation patterns tied to the platform.
00:12:18.400 Republicans now probing whether ActBlue kept its fraud controls deliberately weak,
00:12:23.820 allowing illegal foreign donations and other potentially unlawful contributions
00:12:27.580 to flow through the platform, only to later claim it was shocked,
00:12:32.260 shocked to see the foreign connections. The probe gaining new momentum in April when the
00:12:37.440 New York Times reported ActBlue's own lawyers warned the group it may have misled Congress
00:12:43.020 about its foreign donation safeguards. Wallace Jones telling lawmakers ActBlue used, quote,
00:12:49.560 multi-layered screening to root out foreign contributions. But internal legal memos
00:12:54.980 reportedly warning ActBlue did not have the rigor it claimed to Congress, and that there was a
00:13:00.960 quote, substantial risk some funds may have come from foreign nationals. ActBlue later dismissing
00:13:06.480 the Republican investigations as a witch hunt, while also telling Congress it had strengthened
00:13:11.040 its foreign donation safeguards. House Administration Chairman Brian Stile, Republican from Wisconsin,
00:13:17.860 opening the hearing by arguing internal ActBlue documents show the platform was not merely
00:13:22.920 missing red flags on fraud, but training staff to work around them.
00:13:28.280 This committee issued subpoenas for documents related to fraudulent and foreign donations
00:13:32.400 and alleged misconduct by ActBlue staff. In ActBlue, meeting notes turned over to this committee.
00:13:38.500 Staff were instructed, quote, remember that we that we want to look for reasons to accept
00:13:44.580 contributions. Do not reject contributions for a single suspicious characteristic.
00:13:50.180 Look for the forest and not the trees, end quote.
00:13:54.960 Further, an ActBlue memo titled Fraud Prevention 101 for New Associates in the Workflow advises that, quote,
00:14:02.800 if an otherwise legitimate donor uses a fake name, we would want to accept their donation, end quote.
00:14:10.700 We have additional evidence of ActBlue detecting at least 22 significant fraud campaigns.
00:14:17.460 Nine of those fraud campaigns had a foreign nexus.
00:14:21.060 Chairman Stile noting Wallace Jones was only appearing before the committee due to a subpoena.
00:14:26.500 Prior to her appearance on the Hill, Wallace Jones releasing a video to social media.
00:14:31.600 President Trump and his allies are abusing their power to target ActBlue.
00:14:35.620 I was called to testify before Congress, and I will invoke my Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
00:14:43.520 Invoking the Fifth Amendment is not an admission or even an insinuation of guilt.
00:14:49.160 It is the only reasonable response to a highly partisan proceeding that is about harassing its largest political opponent's fundraising platform, not genuine oversight.
00:15:02.840 These attacks did not start with Act Blue.
00:15:05.560 And sadly, we know they are not stopping here.
00:15:08.620 They are part of a much bigger trend of retaliation and retribution.
00:15:13.600 It was universities.
00:15:15.080 It was law firms.
00:15:16.860 Then civil rights organizations.
00:15:19.320 We will not be intimidated.
00:15:22.040 Lots of tough talk online, but inside the hearing room, Wallace Jones, a less forthcoming.
00:15:27.800 In 2023, I sent you this letter with five straightforward questions with a goal of confirming
00:15:34.800 that foreign funds are not in our elections and that Act Blue had adequate fraud prevention
00:15:40.940 measures in place. You replied a month later with a four-page letter describing your fraud
00:15:46.760 prevention policies and procedures that you had in place at Act Blue. But according to the New
00:15:53.000 York Times, your response to this committee may have been false and misleading. Ms. Wallace-Jones,
00:15:59.620 when you signed this letter to me, did you believe that this letter was false and misleading?
00:16:07.360 On the advice of my counsel, I respectfully declined to answer this question pursuant to
00:16:13.900 my Fifth Amendment rights under the Constitution. Wallace-Jones going on to invoke the Fifth
00:16:19.600 Amendment 21 more times, with the hearing wrapping after roughly an hour. Democrats,
00:16:25.900 for their part, largely dismissing the hearing as a partisan witch hunt,
00:16:29.820 accusing Republicans of targeting Act Blue while ignoring similar questions about the GOP
00:16:35.080 fundraising platform WinRed, the House probe running alongside a separate DOJ investigation
00:16:41.040 ordered by President Trump last year. A Somali World Cup referee denied entry into the USA just
00:16:49.580 days before the tournament kicks off over security concerns. From June 11th through July 19th,
00:16:56.580 the 2026 World Cup will be held across cities in three countries, the U.S., 11 cities, Mexico,
00:17:03.100 three cities, and Canada, two cities. FIFA, the governing body for international soccer,
00:17:09.220 selecting Omar Abdul-Khadir Artan as one of 52 referees for the 2026 World Cup,
00:17:15.720 making him the only Somali referee chosen for the tournament and putting him on track to become the
00:17:21.200 first Somali official ever to referee a World Cup match. But over the weekend, Artan arriving at
00:17:27.980 Miami International Airport from Istanbul, then being pulled in for additional inspection by
00:17:34.020 Customs and Border Protection, or CBP, and ultimately sent on a return flight back to
00:17:39.920 Istanbul. The decision drawing outrage from the usual corners, with critics framing it as an
00:17:45.280 Embarrassment for a World Cup host country and an alleged example of Trump-era immigration policy gone too far.
00:17:52.800 Here, a segment from Tuesday on MS Now.
00:17:55.980 To see this event, which is such a global sports story, impacted negatively by his heinous immigration policies, is it an oversight? Is it intentional?
00:18:07.840 This is an administration that has decided to make theater out of its immigration policy in general.
00:18:12.280 And now when they host the biggest party in the world, that's what the World Cup is.
00:18:17.860 It's a giant party.
00:18:19.080 And the host nation happens to be ruled by administration that you cannot trust.
00:18:24.980 Are you buying the testimony from people who are saying this is the greatest ref from his part of the world?
00:18:30.400 This is his reward?
00:18:31.560 Or are you buying the noises that are now leaking out from the administration saying this is one of those bad hombres?
00:18:38.520 And he is known as the referee of the year in Africa.
00:18:43.540 Like last year.
00:18:44.180 Yeah, last year.
00:18:44.920 So he's clearly a very serious person at this very serious sport.
00:18:50.200 And he gets questioned for 11 hours.
00:18:53.120 It may be incompetence.
00:18:54.380 It may be racism.
00:18:55.960 However, a Trump administration official telling Fox News,
00:18:59.060 RTAN was flagged by CBP for, quote, derogatory information,
00:19:02.920 including association with suspected members of terror organizations, making him ineligible for
00:19:09.080 entry. The New York Times, reporting Artan's name, appears similar to that of a man on a U.S.
00:19:14.740 Treasury sanctions list allegedly linked to the Somali militant group Al-Shabaab. Democrat
00:19:20.920 Congressman Rick Larson of Washington, who initially said FIFA and the White House World
00:19:25.420 Cup task force needed to explain what happened, later telling The Athletic, an offshoot of The
00:19:31.260 New York Times that, based on what he had learned, CBP was, quote, probably right to deny RTAN
00:19:37.800 entry. Congressman Larson adding, quote, CBP has the authority to look at people's phones and
00:19:44.320 communications, and it seems they determined that some communications in this particular person's
00:19:49.100 devices were concerning enough to deny him entry. FIFA confirming RTAN will now be unable to train
00:19:56.220 or officiate at the tournament, saying the organization is not involved in host country
00:20:00.920 immigration decisions and has been told Artan's status will not be changed. The World Cup kicks
00:20:07.000 off today, the first match set for this afternoon in Mexico City, Mexico, between Mexico and South
00:20:13.800 Africa. The tournament, running through July 19th, expected to draw millions of travelers into the
00:20:20.040 U.S. The final match of the tournament will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home of
00:20:26.120 the New York Giants and also the Jets. Federal officials now coordinating security across
00:20:31.480 immigration enforcement, intelligence, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and local
00:20:36.160 law enforcement agencies. Executive director of the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup
00:20:41.440 2026, Andrew Giuliani, telling the BBC, quote, we also want to make sure that we are not going to
00:20:47.480 allow a soccer tournament to be the opportunity for terrorists to potentially get into the country
00:20:52.740 or anybody who is actually talking to them.
00:20:57.980 And that'll do it for your AM update.
