00:00:34.860 It's Monday, February 16th, 2026, and this is your AM Update.
00:00:39.500 The search for Nancy Guthrie goes on with no end in sight,
00:00:43.140 but authorities have a new lead involving DNA from a glove.
00:00:47.340 For we in America have no interest in being polite and orderly caretakers
00:00:52.460 of the West's managed decline.
00:00:55.100 We do not seek to separate, but to revitalize an old friendship

00:01:09.800 You know, I think that this is such a, you know, I think that this is a, this is, of course,
00:01:20.780 a very longstanding policy of the United States.
00:01:25.820 AOC and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer not exactly having the same way with words during
00:01:32.040 their appearances at the event.
00:01:33.720 Plus, did former President Barack Obama just confirm aliens are real?
00:01:37.900 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.

00:02:47.020 It has now been more than two weeks since Nancy Guthrie went missing in Tucson, Arizona.
00:02:53.960 The 84-year-old mother of NBC News host Savannah Guthrie was last seen by family on January 31st,
00:03:00.960 and there still have been no arrests despite dramatic surveillance video
00:03:05.360 and images released last Tuesday showing a masked individual wearing a backpack on her front porch.
00:03:11.880 Yesterday, the FBI announcing a possible breakthrough in the case,
00:03:15.320 the Bureau revealing at least one of the gloves found about two miles away from Nancy's home
00:03:21.020 quote, appears to match the gloves of the subject in the video.
00:03:25.920 It is our understanding that they mean it is the same kind of glove,
00:03:30.000 not necessarily that it is one of the gloves worn by the abductor.
00:03:34.440 The FBI writing in a statement that preliminary results do show one of these gloves they found
00:03:40.500 contains DNA, which the FBI plans to check against its national database after performing quality
00:03:47.280 control measures and confirming, indeed, there is DNA on it.
00:03:51.240 This process typically takes 24 hours.
00:03:53.980 Let's hope there's a match.
00:03:55.240 Also yesterday, both NewsNation and Fox News reporting authorities are using a, quote,
00:04:01.280 signal sniffer attached to a helicopter to try to detect Nancy's pacemaker.
00:04:07.060 An FBI source telling NewsNation the instrument is a, quote, sophisticated FBI technology.
00:04:12.920 According to Fox News, the technology works when helicopters fly low and slow,
00:04:17.760 often in grid patterns, to try to find a signal.
00:04:20.480 NewsNation's Brian Enten reporting on Sunday that the device was seen on the skids of a
00:04:26.360 Pima County Sheriff's Department helicopter flying low over the Tucson area.
00:04:31.100 According to authorities, Guthrie's pacemaker app disconnected from her phone
00:04:35.300 at 2.28 a.m. on February 1st, the morning she went missing.
00:04:40.740 Experts say the device is potentially detectable even if the person in whom it has been implanted
00:04:46.740 has passed, so long as authorities get close enough.
00:04:51.240 Separately, on Friday, the Pima County Sheriff's Department writing in a statement, quote,
00:04:55.460 DNA other than Nancy Guthrie's and those in close contact to her has been collected from
00:05:01.240 the property.
00:05:02.560 Investigators are working to identify who it belongs to.
00:05:06.540 Everyone's hoping the DNA can crack the case because other operations over the weekend
00:05:10.600 not yielding results.
00:05:12.000 The Pima County Sheriff's Department saying a federal search warrant was executed Friday
00:05:16.740 night based on a lead that appears to have gone nowhere, at least for now, and also making
00:05:22.440 a traffic stop related to the investigation.
00:05:25.260 No arrests were made.
00:05:27.240 Pima County Sheriff Chris Nonno is telling Fox News, quote,
00:05:30.180 Every day moving forward, there will be a lot of police activity throughout the community.
00:05:34.500 As to what level that is depends on what lead they chase and how it develops.
00:05:38.680 These leads start in the command post and move to the field as needed.
00:05:42.760 That is one reason you're seeing activity built up as the day goes on that can ultimately lead
00:05:47.740 to a search warrant looking for Nancy and any suspect involved.
00:05:52.220 NBC News' Tom Winter reporting authorities are, quote,
00:05:55.400 leaning away now from the man whose home was searched Friday night, as well as from Carlos,
00:06:01.200 the delivery man who was stopped near the Mexican border last week.
00:06:04.520 Winter also reporting that law enforcement is now leaning away from any relatives of Nancy
00:06:11.200 as suspects.
00:06:13.040 Amid the setbacks, Sheriff Nonno is telling the New York Times he will not give up, but
00:06:17.300 also not exactly striking an optimistic tone.
00:06:20.320 Quote,
00:06:20.960 Maybe it's an hour from now.
00:06:22.380 Maybe it's weeks or months or years from now.
00:06:25.600 But we won't quit.
00:06:26.700 We're going to find Nancy.
00:06:28.060 We're going to find this guy.
00:06:29.360 As the search drags on, Savannah Guthrie reportedly weighing permanently leaving the Today Show. 0.77
00:06:35.480 News Nation's Paula Froelich reporting that Savannah believes the public nature of her
00:06:40.060 job could be what led to her mother's abduction. 0.96
00:06:44.820 Coming up, Marco Rubio getting a standing ovation in an unexpected place while some Democratic
00:06:50.700 counterparts faceplant.
00:06:52.260 And, did former President Barack Obama just break some major news about the existence of
00:06:58.080 aliens?
00:07:04.520 You know Pure Talk's favorite holiday?

00:07:21.400 Now, compare that to big wireless.

00:08:07.540 Secretary of State Marco Rubio getting lots of love on Valentine's Day in Germany, of all
00:08:14.900 places.
00:08:15.840 Rubio speaking at the annual Munich Security Conference, a prestigious event of international
00:08:20.840 leaders that bills itself as, quote, the world's leading forum for debating international security
00:08:26.160 policy.
00:08:27.360 Dubbed the Make the West Great Again speech by Axios, Rubio emphasizing Europe's shared history
00:08:33.140 and culture with the U.S., while also arguing that many of the West's post-Cold War policies
00:08:38.840 on energy trade and immigration have made both sides of the Atlantic weaker.
00:08:43.940 Rubio saying that President Trump is reversing those mistakes and inviting the Europeans to
00:08:48.760 join the U.S. on its path to revitalization.
00:08:52.060 To appease a climate cult, we have imposed energy policies on ourselves that are impoverishing
00:08:57.240 our people, even as our competitors exploit oil and coal and natural gas and anything else,
00:09:04.080 not just to power their economies, but to use as leverage against our own.
00:09:09.120 And in a pursuit of a world without borders, we opened our doors to an unprecedented wave of 0.99
00:09:14.200 mass migration that threatens the cohesion of our societies, the continuity of our culture 1.00
00:09:20.160 and the future of our people.
00:09:24.120 Under President Trump, the United States of America will once again take on the task of
00:09:29.420 renewal and restoration, driven by a vision of a future as proud, as sovereign and as vital
00:09:35.860 as our civilization's past. And while we are prepared, if necessary, to do this alone,
00:09:43.380 it is our preference and it is our hope to do this together with you, our friends here in Europe.
00:09:51.940 Rubio making clear that the Trump administration's demands for change on issues like free trade
00:09:56.540 and immigration are not just about policy preferences, but about the future of Western civilization.
00:10:02.220 We are part of one civilization, Western civilization. We are bound to one another by the deepest
00:10:09.320 bonds that nations could share, forged by centuries of shared history, Christian faith, culture,
00:10:16.200 heritage, language, ancestry, and the sacrifices our forefathers made together for the common
00:10:23.580 civilization to which we have fallen heir. And so this is why we Americans may sometimes come off
00:10:31.400 as a little direct and urgent in our counsel. This is why President Trump demands seriousness
00:10:39.500 and reciprocity from our friends here in Europe. And if at times we disagree, our disagreements
00:10:45.680 come from our profound sense of concern about a Europe with which we are connected, not just
00:10:51.620 economically, not just militarily. We are connected spiritually and we are connected culturally.
00:10:57.940 The Secretary of State reminding his audience of the Cold War era when the Soviet Union appeared to be
00:11:03.320 on the ascendant and, quote, Western empires had entered into terminal decline, accelerated by
00:11:08.960 godless communist revolutions. Mr. Rubio saying our predecessors recognized that decline was a choice,
00:11:15.800 a choice the West rejected then and must reject again in this era of woke self-hatred.
00:11:21.060 We want allies who can defend themselves so that no adversary will ever be tempted to test our
00:11:26.740 collective strength. This is why we do not want our allies to be shackled by guilt and shame.
00:11:31.660 We want allies who are proud of their culture and of their heritage, who understand that we are heirs
00:11:37.300 to the same great and noble civilization and who together with us are willing and able to defend it.
00:11:45.180 For we in America have no interest in being polite and orderly caretakers of the West's managed decline.
00:11:54.100 We do not seek to separate, but to revitalize an old friendship and renew the greatest civilization in human history.
00:12:02.100 And the only fear we have is the fear of the shame of not leaving our nations prouder, stronger and wealthier for our children.
00:12:10.620 Because for us Americans, our home may be in the Western Hemisphere, but we will always be a child of Europe. 0.64
00:12:19.980 Despite Europe's often skeptical, if not downright hostile posture toward the Trump administration,
00:12:26.020 Secretary Rubio receiving a standing ovation at the conclusion of his remarks.
00:12:30.540 We want to do it together with you, with a Europe that it's proud of its heritage and of its history,
00:12:36.900 with a Europe that has the spirit of creation and liberty that sent ships out into uncharted seas
00:12:42.520 and birthed our civilization, with a Europe that has the means to defend itself and the will to survive.
00:12:50.740 We should be proud of what we achieved together in the last century.
00:12:54.440 But now we must confront and embrace the opportunities of a new one.
00:13:00.980 Because yesterday is over.
00:13:03.600 The future is inevitable.
00:13:05.900 And our destiny together awaits.
00:13:09.180 Thank you.
00:13:13.220 The speech going viral on X over the weekend, racking up tens of millions of views.
00:13:18.540 Numerous prominent Democrats also attending the Munich Security Conference,
00:13:24.920 perhaps not as eloquent as the Secretary of State.
00:13:28.840 Exhibit A, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York.
00:13:34.120 AOC speaking on a panel Friday night, along with Mr. Trump's Permanent Representative of the United States
00:13:39.360 to NATO, Ambassador Matthew Whitaker, and Michigan's Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer,
00:13:44.380 in a discussion moderated by Bloomberg TV.
00:13:47.000 The title of the session was Breaking with the Past, Seismic Shifts in U.S. Foreign Policy.
00:13:53.280 Something definitely seemed to be broken when AOC was asked about Taiwan.
00:13:58.380 Would and should the U.S. actually commit U.S. troops to defend Taiwan if China were to move?
00:14:05.260 You know, I think that this is such a, you know, I think that this is a, this is of course a very longstanding policy of the United States.
00:14:23.640 And I think what we are hoping for is that we want to make sure that we never get to that point.
00:14:30.500 And we want to make sure that we are moving in all of our economic research and our global positions to avoid any such confrontation and for that question to even arise.
00:14:42.500 For the record, the U.S. has had a policy of strategic ambiguity, where it does not state exactly how it would respond to Chinese aggression against Taiwan.
00:14:51.680 It's been in place since the Carter administration.
00:14:54.380 Not the congresswoman's finest hour, but maybe not quite as bad as Gretchen Whitmer's earlier in the same panel.
00:15:01.080 The governor saying AOC was the more knowledgeable one on foreign affairs.
00:15:05.540 And sure enough, she embarrassed herself when asked what a successful end to the war in Ukraine might look like.
00:15:12.060 On Ukraine, what does victory look like?
00:15:14.720 Ambassador?
00:15:15.420 Oh, please.
00:15:16.000 I'd love to hear your answer.
00:15:20.580 It is.
00:15:22.480 The two that I am on the panel with are much more steeped in foreign policy than a governor is.
00:15:28.840 But, you know, I do think that Ukraine's independence, keeping their landmass and having the support of all the allies, I think, is the goal.
00:15:41.960 From my vantage point, go ahead, Ambassador, do a better job.
00:15:46.160 Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also making an appearance in Munich, moderating a panel Saturday called
00:15:51.680 Girls Just Want to Have Fundamental Rights, Fighting the Global Pushback. 1.00
00:15:56.940 Because when you think of fun, you think of Hillary Clinton.
00:16:00.620 The first woman she welcomed on the girls panel was the biological male known now as Representative Sarah McBride,
00:16:09.180 a Democrat dude from Delaware posing as a woman and the first openly trans-identifying person in Congress.
00:16:15.380 I want to underscore how truly effective Sarah has been in talking with her colleagues,
00:16:23.220 first in the legislature, the state legislature in Delaware, now in Congress,
00:16:28.320 and you have shown immense grace in the face of attacks, even from your fellow members of Congress.
00:16:37.000 Well, thank you so much for those incredibly kind words.
00:16:39.860 It's an honor to be here with you, Secretary Clinton.
00:16:42.380 There is no question in the United States that after decades of historic progress on gender equality writ large,
00:16:50.180 and specifically more recently on LGBTQ rights, that we are facing, as you mentioned,
00:16:56.060 a well-organized, well-funded, right-wing, regressive movement.
00:17:01.180 And they really have placed trans people at the center of that effort.
00:17:07.680 But we should be clear that the consequences of this anti-trans effort,
00:17:13.640 not only out of proximity, but out of intentionality,
00:17:18.620 will include consequences for women of all backgrounds.
00:17:23.060 Unbelievable.
00:17:23.780 But in a moment that sounded more MAGA than Dem talking point,
00:17:27.840 here's Hillary later that same day on a different panel, 0.96
00:17:30.560 talking open borders and unfettered immigration.
00:17:33.760 I think we need to call it for what it is.
00:17:36.120 There is a legitimate reason to have a debate about things like migration.
00:17:42.300 It went too far.
00:17:43.600 It's been disruptive and destabilizing.
00:17:46.980 And it needs to be fixed in a humane way,
00:17:49.700 with secure borders that don't torture and kill people.
00:17:53.780 Funny, she didn't seem to have much to say
00:17:55.660 during the Biden administration when all of that was happening.
00:17:59.820 And we end on some breaking news courtesy of Barack Obama,
00:18:04.140 the former president telling progressive podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen
00:18:07.700 in an interview posted Saturday that aliens do, in fact, exist.
00:18:13.080 Are aliens real?
00:18:15.160 They're real, but I haven't seen them.
00:18:17.460 And they're not being kept in, what is it?
00:18:21.220 Area 51.
00:18:21.960 Area 51.
00:18:22.340 There's no underground facility unless there's this enormous conspiracy
00:18:29.000 and they hid it from the president of the United States.
00:18:32.940 What was the first question you wanted answered when you became president?
00:18:38.320 Where are the aliens?
00:18:39.500 Where are the aliens?
00:18:41.340 Incredibly, in a dereliction of duty so profound,
00:18:44.260 Cohen was mocked by the left and the right over the weekend.
00:18:47.380 He failed to ask a follow-up question.
00:18:51.020 Like, did you just say aliens are real?
00:18:53.640 Go on.
00:18:54.740 Maybe Michelle can ask her husband for some details the next time she books him on her podcast.
00:18:59.760 Oh, actually, we won't have to wait that long.
00:19:02.440 Late last night on Instagram, Barack Obama weighing in,
00:19:06.360 Quote,
00:19:06.800 I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round,
00:19:10.480 but since it's gotten attention, let me clarify.
00:19:13.520 Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there's life out there.
00:19:18.560 But the distances between solar systems are so great
00:19:21.840 that the chances we've been visited by aliens is low.
00:19:25.360 And I saw no evidence during my presidency
00:19:27.980 that extraterrestrials have made contact with us.
00:19:32.300 Really?
00:19:33.320 Hmm.
