00:00:30.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly.

00:00:35.420 It's Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, and this is your AM Update.

00:00:39.920 The DOJ weighs releasing a transcript of the Ghislaine Maxwell interview with Deputy AG Todd Blanche last month.

00:00:46.520 Are you going to run again?

00:00:48.300 No, probably not.

00:00:50.040 President Trump once again addressing the possibility of running for a third term in office,

00:00:55.680 saying he's probably not going to do it.

00:00:58.220 Well, Stockton Rush came from the wrong industry, and he chose the wrong materials on the wrong approach.

00:01:04.220 The Coast Guard drops its report on the series of colossal failures leading up to the implosion

00:01:09.360 of the Ocean Gate Titan sub, tragically killing five people, including the company's CEO.

00:01:15.200 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.

00:01:18.520 I've been talking a lot about Riverbend Ranch steaks lately, and for good reason.

00:01:26.780 The ranch is just a few miles from West Yellowstone, Montana, where we go in the wintertime,

00:01:32.240 and their steaks are so flavorful and surprisingly tender.

00:01:37.120 Even someone like me, who does not know how to cook, can make it taste delicious.

00:01:42.660 It's thanks to the quality of the beef.

00:01:45.080 A lot of our listeners have been writing in, sharing similar feedback.

00:01:47.960 Abigail Finan will not stop talking about Riverbend Ranch, and I feel the same.

00:01:52.060 So these guys raise Angus cattle, but they've taken it even further.

00:01:55.300 For 35 years now, more than three decades, the owner has selectively bred Angus cattle with

00:02:00.960 superior genetics for marbling and tenderness. 0.53

00:02:04.140 It's all about the marbling and the tenderness, creating a herd that truly stands out.

00:02:08.700 Their beef is born, raised, and processed, too, entirely inside America, without artificial

00:02:14.120 growth hormones or antibiotics.

00:02:16.480 And it is shipped directly from the ranch to your door.

00:02:20.420 Riverbend Ranch is not just another beef company.

00:02:22.440 It's a legacy of quality care and craftsmanship that you can taste in every bite.

00:02:28.720 Order from riverbendranch.com.

00:02:31.020 Use the promo code MEGAN for $20 off your first order, and you'll be eating the same steak

00:02:36.300 that my family and I eat at night.

00:02:39.080 And let me know what you think.

00:02:40.700 Riverbendranch.com, promo code MEGAN.

00:02:45.820 The Department of Justice reportedly weighing whether to release a transcript of the Ghislaine

00:02:50.920 Maxwell interview conducted by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in late July.

00:02:56.780 Three senior DOJ officials telling CNN the administration also has an audio recording of

00:03:02.360 the two-day meeting with Jeffrey Epstein's convicted associate.

00:03:05.980 Some officials within the White House reportedly believe releasing the transcript could bring the

00:03:10.040 Epstein story back into the spotlight at a time when many officials believe the public

00:03:14.920 has largely moved on.

00:03:16.260 Some sources saying any release of the audio or transcript would happen sooner rather than

00:03:21.560 later.

00:03:22.460 Another saying it could take weeks.

00:03:24.800 Maxwell currently appealing a 20-year prison sentence for her role in both abusing and

00:03:30.560 sex trafficking victims for Jeffrey Epstein.

00:03:33.840 She was moved last week to a lower security prison camp in Texas, an apparent concession for

00:03:39.380 her cooperation.

00:03:41.020 President Trump weighing in Tuesday from the White House.

00:03:43.460 And did you personally approve the prison transfer for Ghislaine Maxwell that your Justice Department

00:03:48.820 I didn't know about it at all.

00:03:50.220 No, I read about it just like you did.

00:03:52.000 And do you believe that she is not a very uncommon thing?

00:03:54.980 Do you believe that she's credible to be listening to your deputy attorney general sat down with

00:03:59.180 her recently?

00:04:00.200 Well, he's let me tell you, he's a very talented man.

00:04:03.260 His name is Todd Blanche.

00:04:04.580 He's a very legitimate person, very high.

00:04:08.540 I just have very highly thought of person, respected by everybody.

00:04:13.400 And I didn't talk to him about it.

00:04:15.660 But I will tell you that whatever he asked would be totally appropriate.

00:04:19.680 And it's not an uncommon thing to do that.

00:04:22.040 And I think he probably wants to make sure that, you know, people that should not be involved

00:04:27.280 or aren't involved or not hurt by something that would be very, very unfortunate, very

00:04:32.340 unfair to a lot of people.

00:04:34.920 Separately, the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday morning officially issuing subpoenas

00:04:39.300 for 10 individuals, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary

00:04:44.620 Clinton, former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, and former attorneys general

00:04:50.020 from both sides of the aisle.

00:04:51.820 Merrick Garland, Bill Barr, Alberto Gonzalez, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, and Eric Holder.

00:04:57.280 The subpoenas compelling each individual to appear before the committee for depositions

00:05:01.760 across a range of dates from mid-August to mid-October.

00:05:06.160 It is unclear if these witnesses will appear before the committee or challenge the subpoenas

00:05:10.580 through legal proceedings or whether they might invoke their Fifth Amendment right not to testify.

00:05:15.880 The Oversight Committee also issuing a subpoena to Trump's DOJ, compelling the release of key

00:05:22.160 Epstein files to Congress as part of the ongoing investigation into Epstein, Maxwell,

00:05:27.280 and the DOJ's handling of their cases.

00:05:30.600 Those files are due to the committee by August 19.

00:05:35.520 President Trump on Tuesday morning dialing into CNBC for fun, resulting in a freewheeling

00:05:40.740 interview covering a wide range of subjects.

00:05:43.580 Mr. Trump offering hints on the shortlist to replace Fed Chair Jerome Powell.

00:05:47.840 Powell has indicated he will serve through the remainder of his term, which expires in May of

00:05:52.280 2026, despite the president's repeated calls to either lower interest rates or step aside.

00:05:58.600 Mr. Trump saying he is considering four possible replacements, former Fed overseer Kevin Warsh,

00:06:04.540 director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett, and two more candidates.

00:06:09.180 Not on the list, Treasury Secretary Scott Besson.

00:06:11.720 Well, I love Scott, but he wants to stay where he is.

00:06:14.540 I will.

00:06:14.860 I'll take him off.

00:06:15.620 Because I asked him just last night, is this something you want?

00:06:18.860 Nope.

00:06:19.220 I want to stay where I am.

00:06:20.520 He actually said, I want to work with you.

00:06:23.020 It's such an honor.

00:06:24.040 I said, that's very nice.

00:06:25.140 I appreciate that.

00:06:26.380 But no, Scott wants to do what he's doing.

00:06:28.540 He's doing a great job.

00:06:30.140 And he wants to do what he's doing.

00:06:31.520 So I'd just take him off.

00:06:32.440 He does not want it.

00:06:33.860 President Trump also discussing the possibility of meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping as the August 12th deadline to strike a trade deal looms.

00:06:42.180 We have a very good relationship, but I didn't call for the meeting.

00:06:45.960 He called for the meeting.

00:06:47.060 So the fake news announced Donald Trump wants a meeting with China.

00:06:51.260 No, I didn't want it.

00:06:52.140 No, he asked for a meeting.

00:06:53.900 And I'll end up having a meeting before the end of the year, most likely, if we make a deal.

00:06:57.780 If we don't make a deal, I'm not going to have a meeting.

00:06:59.980 I mean, you know, what's the purpose of meeting if we're not going to make a deal?

00:07:02.740 But we're getting very close to a deal.

00:07:05.100 China is very reliant on the United States.

00:07:07.940 My relationship with him is very good.

00:07:10.320 I think we'll make a good deal.

00:07:13.420 It's not imperative, but I think we're going to make a good deal.

00:07:17.140 But, no, they had a thing that Donald Trump really wanted to go there.

00:07:20.040 No, I don't.

00:07:21.700 It's a 19-hour flight.

00:07:24.120 It's a long flight.

00:07:26.000 But at some point in the not-too-distant future, I will.

00:07:28.820 And just to end this conversation in China, I have a very good relationship with the president.

00:07:33.900 She always had.

00:07:35.280 In recent years, many conservative activists reporting they've been debanked after speaking out politically.

00:07:41.140 The administration reportedly crafting an executive order aimed at protecting consumers.

00:07:46.280 Mr. Trump saying he was a victim himself of debanking after leaving office in 2021.

00:07:51.440 I had JPMorgan Chase.

00:07:54.500 I was loaded up with cash.

00:07:56.520 And they told me, I'm sorry, sir.

00:07:59.760 We can't have you.

00:08:00.960 You have 20 days to get out.

00:08:03.100 I said, you've got to be kidding.

00:08:04.740 I've been with you for 35, 40 years.

00:08:07.300 And it's not like, gee, you defaulted on a loan.

00:08:09.680 You know, geez, if I could understand that.

00:08:11.320 That's different.

00:08:12.140 I ended up going to small banks all over the place.

00:08:14.740 I mean, I was putting 10 million here, 10 million there, did 5 million, 10 million, 12 million.

00:08:21.740 The banks discriminated against me very badly.

00:08:24.640 But they discriminated against many conservatives.

00:08:26.780 And I believe what they did is they went to the regulators.

00:08:30.020 You know, banks are not afraid of anything but a regulator.

00:08:32.840 They're regulators and their wives. 0.72

00:08:34.580 The high IQ people that are radical left.

00:08:37.560 I believe they told the banking commission, do everything you can to destroy Trump.

00:08:43.020 And that's what they did.

00:08:43.920 And guess what?

00:08:45.580 I'm president.

00:08:46.600 How did that happen?

00:08:48.080 No word yet on when that order will be announced.

00:08:51.120 President Trump saying despite his polling, he probably won't run again.

00:08:56.620 I got the highest vote in the history of Texas.

00:08:59.260 A record that they say won't be beaten unless I run again.

00:09:03.660 Are you going to run again?

00:09:05.440 No, probably not.

00:09:07.220 Okay.

00:09:08.200 Probably not.

00:09:09.480 And you're not going to fire Jay Powell.

00:09:11.620 We'll talk about all the stuff that...

00:09:14.320 Hey, Becky, I'd like to run.

00:09:16.200 I have the best poll numbers I've ever had.

00:09:19.020 Later on Tuesday, President Trump predicting to reporters a dream team of Vice President

00:09:23.580 J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will carry on the MAGA movement.

00:09:28.380 Coming up, the Coast Guard dropping a damning report on the Ocean Gate Titan sub, outlining

00:09:35.740 several points of failure and negligence leading up to the fatal implosion.

00:09:39.980 You know the feeling someone in your family gets sick, and then you're stuck waiting for

00:09:48.220 a doctor's appointment, or the pharmacy's out of stock, or you're left wondering why

00:09:52.180 something so basic must be so hard.

00:09:54.840 Too many American families face this reality, and that's why many are turning to all-family

00:09:59.060 pharmacy.

00:09:59.940 They're doing what Big Pharma won't, which is putting families back in control and making

00:10:51.100 The Coast Guard releasing a blistering 335-page report on the 2023 Ocean Gate Titan submersible

00:10:58.420 disaster that led to the deaths of all five on board.

00:11:01.780 Those who lost their lives were the Ocean Gate CEO, Stockton Rush, Titanic expert Paul-Henri

00:11:08.480 Narjale, British businessman Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, and his

00:11:15.380 19-year-old son, Suleiman Dawood.

00:11:17.560 On June 18, 2023, the explorers embarking on a deep-sea mission to explore the wreckage

00:11:24.320 of the Titanic, resting approximately 12,500 feet beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean.

00:11:30.580 At approximately 1047 a.m., the Titan communications and tracking team, monitoring from a ship on

00:11:37.320 the surface, heard a bang.

00:11:39.920 For days, the nation watched and prayed as it remained not entirely clear whether the

00:11:44.640 vessel had imploded or simply malfunctioned and lost contact.

00:11:49.260 On June 22, debris found on the ocean floor, confirming the loss of the sub and the lives

00:11:55.180 of all on board.

00:11:56.660 The Coast Guard determining the cause of the incident, quote,

00:11:59.060 was the loss of structural integrity of the Titan's carbon fiber hull.

00:12:03.060 This loss caused the sudden catastrophic implosion of the hull.

00:12:07.860 The word failure, appearing 99 times in the report, painting a devastating picture of what

00:12:13.280 led to the tragedy, a, quote, toxic workplace environment, critical engineering failures,

00:12:19.300 and a series of ignored safety warnings.

00:12:22.580 According to the report, Ocean Gate CEO Stockton Rush was negligent in the events leading up to

00:12:28.260 the disaster, noting that Rush's dual role, CEO of the company and master of the Titan,

00:12:34.560 carried a heightened legal responsibility to ensure the safety and seaworthiness of the vessel

00:12:39.460 and its occupants.

00:12:41.220 Had he survived, criminal charges may have followed.

00:12:44.580 The report also finding that before the fatal trip in 2023, Ocean Gate had continued using the

00:12:50.480 Titan sub even after, quote,

00:12:52.680 a series of incidents that compromised the integrity of the hull.

00:12:56.500 Director of the epic film, Titanic, and deep sea submersible expert, James Cameron,

00:13:02.760 last year on 60 Minutes Australia, explaining the Titan's construction was a recipe for disaster

00:13:08.660 from the very start.

00:13:10.060 You have a particular individual, Stockton Rush, he was enamored of the sort of the glamour

00:13:17.900 and the exoticism, and he was attracted to it, but he came from the wrong industry.

00:13:23.000 He came from the air, you know, from aeronautics, and aeronautical engineering is fundamentally

00:13:27.680 different, and he chose the wrong materials on the wrong approach because of the carbon

00:13:31.840 fiber.

00:13:32.520 And there's another issue, which is mating dissimilar materials together at a high-pressure

00:13:36.660 mating surface.

00:13:37.700 When you put titanium up against carbon fiber, they have what's, they have a differential bulk

00:13:42.100 modulus.

00:13:42.660 I don't want to get too technical here, but it means they contract and expand at different

00:13:46.520 rates, which causes slippage and stress and strain at that, at that interface.

00:13:50.820 Which under that pressure?

00:13:52.520 I'm talking about a lot of pressure, and you're talking about certain rules you can't

00:13:55.700 break, and those rules were broken.

00:13:58.560 Despite longstanding concerns about the safety of carbon fiber under deep sea pressure, a new

00:14:03.960 Netflix documentary, Titan, the Ocean Gate Submersible Disaster, explores why Rush remained

00:14:09.920 fixated on using it.

00:14:11.900 He believed it could revolutionize the industry by slashing costs and expanding access.

00:14:17.140 When I looked at the cost of operating a sub, it's the ship.

00:14:21.000 The two things that drive the cost of submersible operations, it's not the replenishing the oxygen

00:14:25.660 or the carbon dioxide scrubber, that's nothing.

00:14:27.920 It's all about the ship, and the next most important thing is mobilization.

00:14:31.680 How do you get the stuff from one location to another?

00:14:34.340 That's 90% of your cost.

00:14:36.840 If you can realize that dream of a carbon fiber submersible, you can drop the price, you

00:14:41.720 can suddenly have fleets of these submersibles operating around the world.

00:14:45.080 The Coast Guard report also found, quote, Ocean Gate's safety culture and operational practices

00:14:50.780 were critically flawed, and at the core of these failures were glaring disparities between

00:14:55.520 their written safety protocols and their actual practices.

00:14:59.460 One example of that breakdown relayed by former Ocean Gate Director of Engineering, Tony

00:15:04.620 Nissen, who worked for the company from 2016 until he was fired in 2019.

00:15:10.280 Nissen testifying in September 2024 to the Coast Guard's Marine Board of Investigation.

00:15:15.080 About a 2018 lightning strike to the vessel.

00:15:18.780 I believe it got compromised by that event.

00:15:22.120 That's very difficult to detect.

00:15:24.300 I mean, it took a lightning strike and it went through all the testing.

00:15:27.420 So at that point, did you cancel the 2018 Titanic expedition?

00:15:32.980 It had to, yeah.

00:15:34.360 Because we gutted it, changed all the electronics in it.

00:15:37.820 We weren't going to be able to do the deep diving that we needed in time.

00:15:44.120 There was no path to get there.

00:15:45.360 It would have had to leave, I think it had to leave the Bahamas to go to Newfoundland sometime

00:15:50.380 in May, I think it was.

00:15:52.440 Yeah, and then we couldn't get there.

00:15:54.840 At that time, did you believe that the lightning strike affected the actual carbon fiber hull?

00:15:59.140 Yeah, I told Stockton and said that there's probably a good chance that that hull is compromised, for sure.

00:16:06.080 And what did he say?

00:16:07.560 It'll be okay.

00:16:08.660 So nothing was done to the hull itself from that point on?

00:16:12.920 You didn't make a new hull?

00:16:14.460 It wasn't?

00:16:14.760 The new report also finding Rush was able to push the Titan project forward by capitalizing

00:16:20.900 on the company's favorable reputation to evade regulatory scrutiny, quote, by strategically

00:16:26.840 creating and exploiting regulatory confusion and oversight challenges, OceanGate was ultimately

00:16:32.460 able to operate Titan completely outside of the established deep-sea protocols.

00:16:38.760 OceanGate suspended operations in July 2023.

00:16:41.780 And that'll do it for your AM update.
