00:00:30.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Tuesday, March 31st, 2026, and this is your AM

00:00:38.580 Update. Days after President Trump says we've won the Iran war, new attacks in Iran, Israel and

00:00:45.300 Lebanon. We always prefer to settle things through negotiation and diplomacy, but we also have to be

00:00:51.520 prepared for the fact that that effort might fail. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State

00:00:56.340 Marco Rubio coming out on top of an influential straw poll ahead of the 2028 Republican presidential

00:01:02.400 primary. And I would also add it's despicable that the lack of coverage of this young woman's 1.00

00:01:08.320 case of her life and the way that it was tragically cut short. The White House blasting

00:01:12.740 the media for failing to cover a horrific murder allegedly by an illegal immigrant and an Easter 1.00

00:01:19.000 candy going viral, all 23,000 calories of it. All that and more coming up in just a moment on your

00:01:26.200 AM update. Relief Factor loves hearing from pain-free customers and hopes they can help you

00:01:35.680 next. One user of Relief Factor named Kim wrote to them to say, quote,

00:01:39.920 before trying Relief Factor, I struggled just to make it through my work days. I would collapse

00:01:44.380 on the couch at night, aching everywhere. Within a few weeks of starting Relief Factor,

00:01:48.500 the daily pain began to fade. Now I'm keeping up at work and I still have energy left for my family.

00:01:54.060 There are many stories like Kim's of parents having more love to give, but no strength to do

00:01:59.800 it. Things like that. Relief Factor could be the solution. It eases pain, sure, but it does more

00:02:05.020 than that. It can restore evenings, laughter, and the simple joy of being present. If you have back

00:02:35.360 Fighting in the Middle East showing no signs of slowing down days after the president said

00:02:40.280 we had won the war. On Monday, President Trump saying serious talks were underway to resolve the

00:02:46.300 war, but also threatening to attack Iran's electric plants, oil wells, and even water

00:02:51.820 desalinization plants if the Iranians did not soon agree to a deal that includes opening the

00:02:57.580 Strait of Hormuz. Then, late last night, the Wall Street Journal reporting that Mr. Trump has told

00:03:02.540 AIDS he's willing to end the war without reopening Hormuz. On Monday, Iran hit Israel's largest oil

00:03:09.460 refinery with missiles, and Iranian-backed militias believed to be inside Iraq fired

00:03:15.080 rockets at an Iraqi military base at Baghdad International Airport. Any target seen as too

00:03:21.720 close to the U.S. considered fair game by Iranian proxies. Israel bombing a university in Tehran

00:03:28.440 associated with weapons research as well as Iranian air defense installations, meaning the

00:03:34.060 systems used to detect and shoot down incoming missiles near the Caspian Sea. The Wall Street

00:03:39.920 Journal reporting the Iranian parliament Monday approving a plan to collect tolls from vessels

00:03:44.600 traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 percent of the world's oil

00:03:48.920 typically is transported. Under the framework, vessels associated with the U.S. and Israel

00:03:54.180 would not be permitted to travel through the Strait, the journal reports, citing Iranian

00:03:58.600 state media. President Trump confirming to the New York Post that the U.S. is in touch with

00:04:03.720 the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and that we will know soon if he's willing to work with

00:04:08.140 the Americans. Secretary of State Marco Rubio telling Good Morning America Monday that the

00:04:13.280 Trump administration prefers a diplomatic solution, but that there's no guarantee the

00:04:17.500 Iranians, with whom they are negotiating, will have the power or desire to deliver results 0.94

00:04:22.580 acceptable to the U.S.

00:04:24.320 If there are new people now in charge who have a more reasonable vision of the future,

00:04:27.960 that would be good news for us, for them, for the entire world.

00:04:30.640 But we also have to be prepared for the possibility, maybe even the probability,

00:04:35.320 that that is not the case.

00:04:36.440 But the president said they are.

00:04:38.000 Is that the case or is it not?

00:04:39.460 I'm just trying to get some clarity on that.

00:04:41.140 Well, what I mean is, yeah, so you have people that are saying some of the right things privately.

00:04:45.640 Obviously, they're not going to put it out in press releases and what they say to you or put out there for the world doesn't necessarily reflect what they're saying in our conversations.

00:04:53.160 But at the end of the day, we have to see if these people end up being the ones in charge, seeing if they're the ones that have the power to deliver.

00:04:58.520 We're going to test it. We are hopeful that that's the case.

00:05:01.240 There are clearly people there talking to us in ways that previous people in charge in Iran have not spoken to us in the past.

00:05:08.060 some of the things they're willing to do, some of the things they're saying they're willing to do.

00:05:11.640 Obviously, they have to go do it. We're going to test that proposition very strongly because we

00:05:15.400 always prefer to settle things through negotiation and diplomacy. But we also have to be prepared for

00:05:21.020 the fact that that effort might fail. With the war costing the United States

00:05:24.840 reportedly around a billion dollars a day, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt,

00:05:29.220 hinting President Trump, may ask America's Gulf allies to chip in.

00:05:33.260 During the Persian Gulf War, 1990-1991, Arab countries paid for the vast majority of the cost of the war.

00:05:40.960 Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE.

00:05:43.640 Who's paying for the cost of this war?

00:05:46.400 Will those Arab countries step up to do just that?

00:05:49.500 Well, I think it's something the president would be quite interested in calling them to do.

00:05:53.520 I won't get ahead of him on that.

00:05:55.580 But certainly, it's an idea that I know that he has and something that I think you'll hear more from him on.

00:06:00.780 The annual Conservative Political Action Committee, or CPAC,

00:06:06.300 straw poll for the Republican presidential primary is out.

00:06:10.000 J.D. Vance coming in first place with 53 percent,

00:06:13.380 followed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 35.

00:06:17.140 Rubio's support surging compared to 2025 when he was at 3 percent,

00:06:21.740 Vance also winning last year's poll at 61 percent.

00:06:25.220 Reuters reporting this week that Mr. Trump has been asking his allies and advisors about

00:06:29.900 who would be a better successor as the Republican Party's standard bearer,

00:06:33.880 with the president asking, quote, J.D. or Marco. Reuters reporting, quote,

00:06:38.020 some see signs of Trump leaning toward Rubio, but note he could change his mind quickly.

00:06:42.860 Here's what the president had to say to NBC News about Rubio and Vance on February 4th.

00:06:48.200 You've suggested that J.D. Vance, Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio

00:06:52.400 would be a tough ticket to beat. Who should be at the top of that ticket?

00:06:56.060 Well, I don't want to get into this. We have three years to go. I don't want to,

00:06:59.160 You know, I have two people that are doing a great job.

00:07:02.080 I don't want to have an argument with or I don't want to use the word fight.

00:07:06.360 It wouldn't be a fight. But look, J.D. is fantastic and Marco is fantastic.

00:07:11.000 How are they different? And I do think this. It's a great question.

00:07:15.040 I think that's your most interesting question. I would say one is slightly more diplomatic than the other.

00:07:21.480 I think they're both of very high intelligence. I mean, they they will do shows.

00:07:26.320 they will do Joe Rogan as opposed to the opponent not doing it because they couldn't handle it.

00:07:31.400 They will be able to do whatever they have to do. Neither Vance nor Rubio have officially made

00:07:36.880 any announcements about seeking the nomination. But if they do, they might not be the only other

00:07:41.560 candidates. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky telling CBS News he's considering a run and that he

00:07:47.280 believes there may be a lane for a Republican like Rand, who identifies more as a libertarian

00:07:52.700 and less as a populist. Yeah, I don't know yet. So maybe they know something I don't know.

00:07:58.540 We're thinking about it, and I would say 50-50. We'll make a decision after the election. There

00:08:03.600 used to really be a free market slash libertarian wing of the party, and now there's not much left.

00:08:08.620 In fact, on many days, it's me in the Senate, the only one left for free trade. But I think there

00:08:14.140 still is a desire among business for it, and it may make the so-called libertarian vote, which

00:08:19.960 might not be big enough to ever win anything. If you combine that with the chamber of the

00:08:23.960 commerce and the traditional business community that doesn't like protectionism, there may be

00:08:28.560 a force out there for a different direction from the party other than being continued to be led by

00:08:34.340 populism. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis last week telling Sean Hannity he also has not ruled out

00:08:39.800 another presidential run. We'll see. I mean, you know, I think that, you know, in 24, like in Iowa,

00:08:47.640 the people that voted for Trump, if he wasn't running, I would have gotten like 90% of those

00:08:52.880 people. They were conservative voters, right? They didn't want the non-conservative. They

00:08:56.640 wanted me. But the timing didn't work out, obviously, for that. So you just got to see

00:09:01.020 what happens. Governor DeSantis getting just 2% of the CPAC straw poll vote. Senator Paul getting

00:09:07.240 1%. Coming up, the White House is blasting the media for failing to cover a murder allegedly

00:09:14.680 committed by an illegal immigrant. And you're going to want to be all ears to hear what special 0.91

00:09:19.900 item Costco has for Easter. Everybody's talking about weight loss injections because the results

00:09:32.000 can be so dramatic. They work by lowering blood sugar and reducing appetite. But what if you're

00:09:37.320 looking to lose weight, but you're not interested in painful weekly injections, especially when you

00:09:42.280 hear about some of those intense side effects. That's why doctors created a weight loss supplement

00:09:47.220 called Lean, and the results could be remarkable. Lean says the studied ingredients in their product

00:09:54.020 have been shown to lower your blood sugar, burn fat by converting it into energy, and curb your

00:09:59.680 appetite and cravings so you are not as hungry. But listen, Lean is not for the casual dieter

00:10:05.260 with only a few pounds to lose. The doctors at Brickhouse Nutrition created Lean for frustrated 0.82

00:10:10.580 dieters with 10 or more pounds to lose. You could get started with 20% off and free rush shipping,

00:10:16.660 adding lean to your healthy diet and exercise plan. Visit takelean.com and enter MK to get

00:10:22.880 your discount. That's promo code MK at takelean.com. The White House today confirming that

00:10:30.360 President Trump has spoken to the family of 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago student

00:10:35.720 Sheridan Gorman. Sheridan shot and killed on March 19th, allegedly by 25-year-old illegal

00:10:41.720 immigrant Jose Medina from Venezuela. Sheridan was out with friends on a pier taking in the

00:10:47.140 Chicago skyline, hoping to see the northern lights, when prosecutors say a masked Medina

00:10:52.480 dressed in all black emerged, chasing her, then shooting her in the back as she fled.

00:10:58.840 Caroline Levitt addressing the Democrats' refusal to fund the Department of Homeland Security and

00:11:03.680 ICE and the media's lack of coverage of the case. And it's despicable that Democrats are

00:11:09.120 currently defunding the department that's responsible for removing illegal aliens like 1.00

00:11:13.240 that. And I would also add it's despicable that the lack of coverage of this young woman's case

00:11:19.300 of her life and the way that it was tragically cut short. I saw a survey over the weekend that

00:11:24.540 I'd like to bring to all of your attention. This is the media coverage of the case of Sheridan

00:11:28.900 Gorman. You have ABC News has spent one minute and 19 seconds between two days when this case

00:11:36.640 was first alerted. You have CBS, two minutes and one second. You have NBC, 23 seconds spent on the

00:11:44.140 life of a young, beautiful American woman whose life was taken short by an illegal alien who

00:11:49.940 should have never been here in the first place when we are in the middle of a battle on Capitol

00:11:53.900 Hill with a major political party, the Democrat Party, who wants to defund the agency that is

00:11:58.680 responsible for protecting Americans. I think her life was worth more than 23 seconds on cable

00:12:03.740 television. Medina making his first court appearance Friday by video link from Cook

00:12:08.420 County Jail's medical unit due to his recent tuberculosis diagnosis. According to WGN,

00:12:14.400 at one point Medina could be seen throwing up during the proceeding. Cook County Assistant

00:12:18.940 Public Defender Julie Kohler attempting to garner sympathy, not for Sheridan, but for her client.

00:12:25.940 According to reports from inside the courtroom,

00:12:28.300 she told the judge Medina is, quote,

00:12:29.880 severely brain damaged and disabled,

00:12:32.180 and that he has the brain development of a child

00:12:34.680 thanks to a bullet fragment lodged in his brain.

00:12:38.040 He was apparently shot in Colombia

00:12:39.700 after fleeing Venezuelan violence.

00:12:42.340 And get this, Medina's attorney requesting

00:12:44.520 he remain detained, not because he's guilty,

00:12:48.100 but because they're afraid of ICE.

00:12:51.800 Here's Kohler speaking after the hearing.

00:12:53.700 We are very concerned that if Jose was released, that he would be detained by ICE and transported to a third country where he, without the benefit of due process.

00:13:10.380 The judge ordering Medina detained, his next court appearance is scheduled for April 15th.

00:13:15.900 Sheridan's family releasing a statement following the hearing, quote,

00:13:18.780 We sat in a courtroom and listened as the person accused of taking Sheridan's life was described

00:13:23.580 through the lens of his background, his circumstances, and his struggles. We heard a

00:13:28.600 call for compassion, and we understand that instinct. Every life has a story. But we cannot

00:13:34.940 lose sight of the simple, devastating truth at the center of all of this. Sheridan had a life,

00:13:40.540 too. There is a difference between understanding a life and excusing a loss. A private funeral and

00:13:47.560 burial held for Sheridan on Saturday, with her parents also speaking at a public memorial.

00:13:53.280 Sheridan, she was our joy, our collective joy. And now that joy is gone.

00:13:59.900 As a mom, I'm a great, not like completely heartbroken. And we're going to fight for justice

00:14:07.420 for our sweet Sheridan. And we're going to fight for change. What matters is that we don't turn

00:14:12.320 away from each other, that we actually listen, that we try, really try to understand, to stand

00:14:18.100 in each other's shoes, even when they don't quite fit, even when it's uncomfortable, even when it

00:14:23.780 hurts. It is the heart of all of this. We all look the same thing for your children than for ours

00:14:30.020 to be safe, to be protected, to come home.

00:14:42.320 sound. Our deep condolences to the Gorman family. Five days till Easter, and are you still searching

00:14:51.480 for that special Sunday surprise? Maybe you've tried Cadbury eggs, Peeps, jelly beans, or the

00:14:57.460 classic malted milk balls. Well, move over, Russell Stover. Now there's something chocolatier,

00:15:02.620 the Costco giant bunny. Pizza's name, sugar's the game. Weighing in at 10 pounds and chock full of 0.59

00:15:09.800 some 3,300 grams of sugar, this delectable resurrection rabbit sits at just over two

00:15:15.340 feet tall with a big round belly and giant at-attention ears. But don't fall too in love

00:15:20.420 with this dandy candy or you won't enjoy the best part, those tasty, creamy bites-o-bunny.

00:15:26.380 Given Pete's size and because Costco must not think much of the intellect of its shoppers,

00:15:31.120 the packaging breaks down how to go about eating Pete. Quote, wrap Pete in a towel and give one

00:15:36.800 bold whack, using a hammer, a mallet, a rolling pin. There await you some 151 servings of Jesus

00:15:43.980 loving junk food ordered by Costco from the Minnesota-based candy company Maude Borup,

00:15:49.800 which Costco asked for the delectable. In years past, Costco has offered consumers other cottontails.

00:15:55.960 Once they sold a 4.4 pound chocolate hopper for Easter. But this year they had a vision,

00:16:00.720 reports Racket News Minnesota, a large, head-turning, show-stopping chocolate bunny

00:16:06.440 to outdo all chocolate bunnies ever for Easter. The candy maker obliged, making what they call

00:16:12.960 their most viral creation, Pete. According to the New York Post, Pete ranges in price from

00:16:18.460 a bargain $57 to a hoppin' 140 buckaroos, depending on local market conditions. He's

00:16:25.600 got it all. Milk chocolate, white chocolate, and dark chocolate, too. In addition to whacking him

00:16:31.420 with a blunt force object, they suggest you cut Pete with a serrated knife, with a package 0.99

00:16:36.900 recommending folks, quote, cut gently, ears or feet first, up to you. One reviewer, at first 0.90

00:16:43.460 feeling trepidation about whether his little ones would feel comfortable beating, battering,

00:16:47.480 and slicing up their special bunny, happily reported on the joy Pete's total annihilation 0.96

00:16:52.480 brought the wild-eyed youngsters. And what will Pete set your waistline back? 150 calories if you 0.99

00:16:58.660 just have a nibble. Eat the whole thing and it's nearly 23,000 calories. Enjoy every bite. We won't

00:17:07.100 tell RFKJ if you won't. And that'll do it for your AM update. I'm Megan Kelly. Join me back here for
