00:02:41.640 NBC News host Savannah Guthrie speaking out as the search for her missing 84-year-old mother,

00:02:47.680 Nancy Guthrie, enters its fifth day.

00:02:50.520 On Tuesday, multiple outlets receiving a ransom note demanding money from the Guthrie family by

00:02:55.540 Thursday or threatening that Nancy would be killed.

00:02:58.440 Savannah, flanked by her brother Cameron and sister Annie, posting this video plea to Instagram

00:03:04.380 last night.

00:03:05.220 Our mom is our heart and our home.

00:03:09.900 She is 84 years old.

00:03:12.900 Her health, her heart is fragile.

00:03:16.620 She lives in constant pain. 0.71

00:03:20.400 She is without any medicine. 0.76

00:03:22.540 She needs it to survive. 0.97

00:03:23.880 She needs it not to suffer.

00:03:29.540 We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media.

00:03:35.040 As a family, we are doing everything that we can.

00:03:41.080 We are ready to talk.

00:03:42.860 However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated.

00:03:54.580 We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her.

00:04:03.500 We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen.

00:04:08.600 Please, reach out to us.

00:04:11.100 This, as crime journalist and Drop Dead Serious podcast host Ashley Banfield reports that Annie's

00:04:18.260 husband, Tommaso Sione, may be the prime suspect, citing one senior law enforcement source reporting

00:04:25.840 that has not been matched by any other outlet.

00:04:29.280 Mr. Sione has not responded to this report, but the Pima County Sheriff's Office, releasing

00:04:34.320 a statement Wednesday that reads in part, quote,

00:04:36.840 At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case.

00:04:42.980 The sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible, end quote.

00:04:49.320 Ms. Banfield reacting to that yesterday on the MK Show.

00:04:53.200 I've had it happen a million times and they don't want to release that publicly at this point.

00:04:58.280 They're not naming him publicly at this point.

00:05:00.580 Um, that's how I look at that.

00:05:03.000 Listen, I said very carefully, may be prime suspect at this point.

00:05:07.720 I did not say they've got their suspect at this time.

00:05:10.600 That's not what my source said.

00:05:11.880 I understand that they're doing their work and they want to probably keep him talking.

00:05:17.060 Uh, you know how it works.

00:05:18.320 The minute somebody stops talking and they get a lawyer, um, it's harder.

00:05:22.600 The work is a little bit harder.

00:05:24.480 Authorities were seen at Annie and Tommaso's home on Wednesday, placing some items from the house into their own vehicles before returning back inside.

00:05:34.040 News Nation's Brian Enten reporting that he saw the officials taking a ring light and a tripod into the home, which may have been to assist with the siblings' video plea.

00:05:43.900 Meanwhile, several news outlets on Wednesday, including the Daily Mail, The Hollywood Reporter, and Fox News, updating their reporting about who was the last to see Nancy Guthrie on the night she disappeared, noting that it was not Annie Guthrie who dropped off her mother Nancy at home on Saturday night after a church function, but Tommaso Sione.

00:06:05.060 In another twist, the story about how Nancy's disappearance first came to light may also be changing.

00:06:11.140 Initially, reports stated that Nancy's friend called the family when Nancy did not show up to church on Sunday.

00:06:18.580 The Daily Mail now reporting, however, that a source tells the outlet, ever since the COVID pandemic, Nancy attends church from home via livestream, noting that the congregants would have no way of knowing if she was participating or not.

00:06:34.140 Investigators yesterday returning to Nancy Guthrie's home, which they had returned to the family the day before.

00:06:40.320 Putting up new crime scene tape and bringing in canine units, that search reportedly lasting about two hours.

00:06:47.720 Pima County Sheriff Chris Nonno is telling the New York Times early Wednesday that it is too soon to say whether this abduction was random or targeted.

00:06:57.220 TMZ reporting, authorities are also looking into an early January trespassing report filed by an elderly man living about 10 minutes away from the Guthrie home.

00:07:06.800 An alleged trespasser triggering a motion sensor on the lawn, which turned on a floodlight.

00:07:13.440 That person then fleeing on foot before anyone could get a look at him.

00:07:17.180 There was no attempted break-in and nothing was stolen from the lawn, reports TMZ.

00:07:21.800 Local and federal officials are participating in the search.

00:07:25.400 Sheriff Nonno's saying yesterday investigators have no reason to believe Guthrie is deceased.

00:07:30.440 President Trump calling Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday with well wishes and an offer to help in whatever way he can.

00:07:38.500 Soon after, Axios reporting that FBI Director Cash Patel is heading to Arizona.

00:07:44.280 The next press conference is set for 1 o'clock Eastern today.

00:07:47.820 Anyone with information is urged to call 8-8-CRIME or 520-882-7463.

00:07:55.800 Orders are Tom Homan yesterday in Minneapolis announcing an immediate drawdown of 700 federal agents tasked with immigration enforcement operations.

00:08:07.220 Since arriving in Minnesota last week, Homan reorganizing the chain of command in Minnesota, which he says has led to a more efficient operational force.

00:08:15.560 Homan also describing productive and ongoing conversations as he is urging local leaders to help the administration deport criminal illegal aliens by allowing ICE to take custody of them as they're being released from local jails.

00:08:31.220 Under Minnesota's sanctuary city laws, most counties previously did not honor ICE detainer requests.

00:08:38.100 Homan saying yesterday some jurisdictions are softening up.

00:08:41.280 We currently have an unprecedented number of counties communicating with us now and allowing ICE to take custody of illegal aliens before they hit the streets.

00:08:51.060 Unprecedented cooperation.

00:08:53.540 Now I'll say it again.

00:08:54.960 This is efficient.

00:08:55.980 It requires only one or two officers to assume custody of a criminal alien target rather than eight or ten officers going into the community and arresting that public safety threat.

00:09:06.920 This frees up more officers to arrest or remove criminal aliens.

00:09:11.280 More officers taking custody of criminal aliens directly from the jails means less officers on the street doing criminal operations.

00:09:19.740 It is unclear which jurisdictions are now cooperating with the feds.

00:09:24.020 The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, or HCSO, which covers Minneapolis, telling CBS, quote, our policy has not changed.

00:09:32.520 According to the sheriff's website, quote, HCSO does not work with any agency on civil immigration enforcement.

00:09:39.640 That means we do not assist with or comply with any civil immigration requests from ICE.

00:09:45.800 CNN yesterday pressing Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry on Hennepin County's refusal to cooperate with the Trump administration.

00:09:52.960 During the Obama years, the Hennepin County jail actually had a policy where they let an ICE agent keep an office there.

00:10:00.240 So the policy has clearly been under a Democratic president what now the Trump administration is asking for.

00:10:07.660 I mean, big picture.

00:10:09.280 Do you think it's good policy for the jails to follow an ICE detainer and hand someone over if they've committed a crime?

00:10:17.900 And that's not our jurisdiction.

00:10:20.220 What I would say is that there are mechanisms to do this lawfully.

00:10:25.180 The federal government could seek some form of federal warrant.

00:10:30.220 That warrant could run part and parcel with the warrant that already exists at the state level.

00:10:35.680 And if they were to do that, there would be a legal mechanism for detention after bail has been posted.

00:10:44.880 But what we can't have from a legal perspective is a second detention after the obligations under the first detention have been met.

00:10:55.600 Holman telling reporters yesterday, while clearly the administration would like more, it is happy with the cooperation it is now receiving.

00:11:03.520 I also want to reiterate and emphasize, we are not requiring jails to hold people past their normal release time for immigration purposes.

00:11:13.460 We're not asking anyone to be an immigration officer.

00:11:16.900 We are not asking any state or local official to do immigration enforcement activity.

00:11:21.320 They are not.

00:11:22.520 By merely notifying us before they release them, they don't hold them one minute past they normally would.

00:11:28.160 Given this increase in unprecedented collaboration, and as a result of the need for less law enforcement officers to do this work in a safer environment, I have announced effective immediately, we will draw down 700 people affected today.

00:11:44.580 700 law enforcement personnel.

00:11:46.120 While Holman says there he's not requiring jails to hold illegals past their release time, on Tuesday, the Minnesota Star Tribune reporting, Holman is negotiating with the Minnesota Sheriff's Association on a framework that would allow local authorities to hold criminal illegal aliens in custody for up to 48 hours after their scheduled releases, allowing ICE time to pick them up.

00:12:09.080 Not only is there an earlier legal opinion written by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison saying that's illegal, however, it's also unclear how any agreement could be enforced should any individual county sheriff continue to refuse to cooperate with ICE.

00:12:26.460 On the bright side, Holman points out the locals are now finally agreeing to help control ICE watch agitators.

00:12:32.560 Every chief I talk to, every one of them, promise to respond to any public safety issue when our officers are out doing their sworn duty and people start crossing the line and they start impediment, interference.

00:12:48.220 Every police chief has committed to doing their job and enforce public safety.

00:12:53.100 We've talked to a lot of sheriffs throughout the nation.

00:12:55.060 We have unprecedented cooperation.

00:12:58.100 I've yet to talk to a sheriff that said no.

00:13:00.680 There's still more sheriffs we are in discussions with and talking to, but I have not word or heard no.

00:13:07.400 I think they want to do the right things for the communities too.

00:13:11.160 Vice President J.D. Vance yesterday on the Megan Kelly Show calling that cooperation essential.

00:13:16.360 When Holman says we're drawing 700 people down, those are the people who were protecting the ICE officers as they went out and did deportations and immigration enforcement.

00:13:25.940 Most of the people that we have in Minneapolis, they're not doing immigration enforcement.

00:13:29.600 That's true even after the 700 drawdown.

00:13:32.640 Most of them are protecting the immigration officers from the mob that's forming around them.

00:13:38.920 The reason why Minneapolis was so chaotic is because we had to have all these extra officers doing the job the local police wouldn't do.

00:13:46.000 If the local police are willing to step up a little bit, I think that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

00:13:51.200 Democrat Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz still complaining.

00:13:55.140 Meanwhile, responding to news of the drawdown on X, quote, Operation Metro Surge is not making Minnesota safer.

00:14:02.200 Today's announcement is a step in the right direction, but we need a faster and larger drawdown of forces, state-led investigations into the killings of Alex Preddy and Renee Good, and an end to this campaign of retribution.

00:14:13.900 The White House yesterday announcing, since the beginning of the surge, federal agents have arrested more than 4,000 criminal illegal aliens, including violent killers, rapists, and gang members.

00:14:26.720 Coming up, two major medical organizations announcing new guidance against performing surgeries on allegedly gender-confused minors amid mounting pressure from the Trump administration and attempted Trump assassin Ryan Ruth sentenced.

00:14:41.240 One of the biggest problems in American healthcare right now is access.

00:14:52.840 You usually can't get medication until you're already sick.

00:14:55.920 Healthcare should not only work when it is convenient for the system, though.

00:14:59.180 It should work when people actually need it.

00:15:01.220 And that's where all family pharmacy is different.

00:15:03.800 They let you plan ahead by ordering prescription medications before you're sick.

00:15:07.780 Wouldn't that be nice?

00:15:08.400 You order online, a licensed doctor reviews your request and writes the prescription, and your medication ships straight to your door.

00:15:15.880 Doesn't that make sense?

00:15:17.100 It's not like people are getting high off of ivermectin.

00:15:19.580 You know, like, they want it because they're traveling, they don't want to have to wait, but they treat it like it's like some sort of contraband.

00:15:28.340 Thanks to all family pharmacy, you won't be dealing with waiting rooms, insurance delays, last-minute scrambling,

00:15:33.460 and they offer antibiotics, antivirals, Tamiflu, ivermectin, yes, and hundreds of other prescription meds.

00:15:40.780 This is about access, responsibility, and being prepared, giving you the ability to plan ahead.

00:15:46.160 Go to allfamilypharmacy.com slash Megan.

00:15:49.240 Use that code MEGAN10 to get 10% off your next order.

00:15:52.620 In a big win for the Trump administration's war on radical left gender ideology,

00:15:58.920 two major medical organizations publicly announcing their opposition to so-called gender-affirming surgeries for minors.

00:16:07.800 HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. more accurately describing these surgeries as, quote,

00:16:12.320 sex-rejecting procedures.

00:16:14.920 The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS, announcing Tuesday that surgeons should, quote,

00:16:21.240 delay gender-related breast slash chest, genital, and facial surgery until a patient is at least 19 years old.

00:16:29.500 The American Medical Association, the largest association of physicians and medical students in the U.S.,

00:16:36.060 in a major reversal, also announcing yesterday its agreement with ASPS,

00:16:40.860 that surgeries should be delayed until adulthood, quote,

00:16:45.280 the evidence for gender-affirming surgical intervention in minors

00:16:48.720 is insufficient for us to make a definitive statement.

00:16:52.060 The association previously opposing any efforts to restrict minors from accessing these surgeries.

00:16:57.880 In a 2021 statement, they advocated for, quote,

00:17:01.700 interventions based on the current evidence

00:17:03.780 and that enable young people to explore and live the gender they choose.

00:17:08.920 The ASPS is the leading professional body governing plastic surgery in the U.S.

00:17:14.500 Guidance from these medical organizations directly shapes insurance coverage,

00:17:18.280 as well as malpractice standards,

00:17:20.000 and whether surgeons are willing to perform the procedures at all.

00:17:23.300 According to a 2023 study published by the American Medical Association,

00:17:27.100 between 2016 and 2020, at least 3,215 patients between the ages of 12 and 18

00:17:34.700 underwent breast or chest procedures as part of a so-called gender transition.

00:17:40.580 One of the most common procedures, double mastectomies,

00:17:44.300 often referred to blithely as top surgery,

00:17:48.120 permanently removing otherwise healthy breast tissue from girls 0.91

00:17:51.200 in order to create a more masculine appearance. 1.00

00:17:54.040 In explaining its decision, ASPS citing major evidence reviews,

00:17:58.920 including a 2024 United Kingdom National Health Service review

00:18:02.360 and a 2025 HHS report examining pediatric gender dysphoria research.

00:18:08.000 The organization concluding, quote,

00:18:10.120 these reviews have not resolved earlier uncertainties regarding treatment benefit.

00:18:14.440 In some areas, they have contributed to a clearer understanding of potential harms,

00:18:18.860 while also highlighting limitations of the available evidence,

00:18:21.840 including gaps in documenting long-term physical, psychological, and psychosocial outcomes.

00:18:28.700 Just last week, in the first case of its kind to reach trial,

00:18:32.080 Fox Varian, a 22-year-old detransitioner,

00:18:35.240 awarded $2 million by a Westchester County New York jury,

00:18:39.000 which found her psychologist and plastic surgeon

00:18:41.500 liable for medical malpractice

00:18:43.660 after pushing her into a double mastectomy at just 16 years old.

00:18:48.160 More than two dozen similar lawsuits now await their day in court.

00:18:52.940 These announcements, following a wave of actions by the Trump administration,

00:18:56.080 aimed at eliminating permanent gender transition procedures for children.

00:19:01.060 The hospital Children's Minnesota has a gender health program.

00:19:05.280 It announced on Tuesday it plans to halt all hormone treatment for minors,

00:19:10.160 including puberty blockers.

00:19:11.780 In a statement, the hospital making clear its decision was a direct result of federal pressure.

00:19:17.760 Quote,

00:19:18.480 As one of the leading pediatric providers of gender-affirming care in the region,

00:19:23.020 we have recently experienced an increase in federal actions directed at health systems like ours

00:19:27.840 that provide this care.

00:19:30.380 Good.

00:19:31.200 Thank you, President Trump.

00:19:32.820 In December, Secretary Kennedy unveiling sweeping proposals aimed at drastically reducing the number

00:19:38.800 of sex-rejecting procedures, including cutting federal funding to government health programs

00:19:43.620 that pay for these treatments.

00:19:46.100 Secretary Kennedy commending ASPS in a statement,

00:19:49.280 Quote,

00:19:49.820 By taking this stand, they are helping protect future generations of American children

00:19:53.800 from irreversible harm.

00:19:55.860 Attempted Trump assassin Ryan Ruth sentenced yesterday to life in prison for plotting in

00:20:02.820 2024 to kill then-candidate Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course.

00:20:08.100 The 59-year-old convicted in September on five federal counts, including attempted assassination

00:20:12.920 of a major presidential candidate, assault of a federal law enforcement officer, and multiple

00:20:17.840 firearms offenses.

00:20:19.640 U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon imposing additional concurrent sentences of 84 months for the possession

00:20:24.900 of a firearm during a violent crime, 240 months for assault on a federal officer, 18 months

00:20:31.220 for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, and 60 months for possession of a firearm

00:20:36.160 with an obliterated serial number.

00:20:38.580 Ruth appearing in court yesterday wearing a tan prison uniform and shackles.

00:20:42.700 During his September verdict, Ruth attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen as the

00:20:47.600 jury's decision was read, marshals removing him from the courtroom, binding him in shackles,

00:20:52.420 then escorting him back for the remainder of the proceedings.

00:20:55.960 Throughout the two-week trial, Ruth choosing to represent himself.

00:20:59.540 Ahead of sentencing, he was assigned court-appointed defense attorney Martin Roth, who argued for

00:21:04.620 leniency.

00:21:05.940 Prosecutors countering that Ruth showed no remorse for his actions, stalking Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago

00:21:10.860 property for weeks, then plotting to gun him down during a golf outing.

00:21:14.740 A Secret Service agent noticing the barrel of a gun poking through shrubs and opening fire,

00:21:20.600 sending Ruth fleeing.

00:21:22.140 He was apprehended a short time later.

00:21:24.580 Judge Cannon addressing Ruth directly, saying, quote,

00:21:27.600 Your plot to kill is deliberate and evil, despite your feigned peacefulness. 0.88

00:21:32.560 You demonstrated your intent to kill. 0.95

00:21:34.800 You almost achieved your evil plan.

00:21:37.620 Ruth's attorney telling reporters after the hearing they plan to appeal the sentence.

00:21:41.760 I think Ryan is a remarkable person.

00:21:46.100 I think he did things that most of us would never even think to do.

00:21:51.800 So, for example, for him to go to Ukraine and volunteer to join the front lines and be

00:21:59.260 a soldier to fight against the Russian invasion, how many people would do that?

00:22:05.100 And what does that say about his character?

00:22:07.720 I will be filing a notice of appeal in this case.

00:22:10.240 And that'll do it for your AM update.
