00:02:50.400 get two bullets to the head.
00:02:52.820 The texts, first reported by National Review's Audrey Fahlberg.
00:02:57.480 Jones sending the texts on August 8, 2022, to Republican House Delegate Cary Coiner.
00:03:04.340 Jones, who at the time had recently resigned from his post in the Statehouse, was mad that Gilbert and other Republican lawmakers were paying tribute to former state legislator Joe Johnson Jr., who had just passed away.
00:03:17.420 Jones apparently irritated that Johnson was too much of a Democratic centrist.
00:03:22.820 He didn't like the bipartisan mourning.
00:03:25.340 The texts, not even meant for Coiner.
00:03:27.960 Jones writing at one point, damn, that was for Mark.
00:03:30.920 Jones, nonetheless, kept texting, and what he sent got even more disturbing.
00:03:36.140 Jones writing, quote,
00:03:36.980 As if that weren't enough, Jones then writing of Speaker Gilbert, quote,
00:03:45.640 three people, two bullets, Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot.
00:03:50.500 Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.
00:03:52.900 Spoiler, put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know, and he receives both bullets every time.
00:03:59.800 According to National Review, Jones then telephones Coiner and doubles down on his disturbing views.
00:04:05.560 From NR's report, quote,
00:04:07.600 Then at one point, he suggested he wished Gilbert's wife could watch her own child die in her arms so that Gilbert might reconsider his political views, prompting Coiner to hang up the phone in disgust.
00:04:20.460 Jones then resuming the texting, writing, quote,
00:04:23.880 I mean, do I think Todd and his wife Jennifer are evil and that they're breeding little fascists?
00:04:30.020 Yes.
00:04:31.260 Jones's initial approach to dealing with this scandal?
00:04:34.320 To attack Donald Trump.
00:04:36.120 Putting out a statement accusing President Trump and Jones's Republican opponent, current Virginia Attorney General Jason Mieres,
00:04:43.140 of dropping smears through Trump-controlled media to assault my character.
00:04:48.540 National Review is Trump-controlled media?
00:04:51.780 That'll be news to Trump.
00:04:53.620 Later, Jones putting out a second statement saying,
00:04:56.800 I take full responsibility for my actions and I want to issue my deepest apology to Speaker Gilbert and his family.
00:05:03.620 Reading back those words made me sick to my stomach.
00:05:06.800 I'm embarrassed, ashamed, and sorry.
00:05:08.780 I've reached out to Speaker Gilbert to apologize directly to him, his wife Jennifer, and their children.
00:05:15.400 I cannot take back what I said.
00:05:17.100 I can only take full accountability and offer my sincere apology.
00:05:21.740 Mieres responding on X, writing in part, quote,
00:05:24.820 My job is to stop violence, to protect innocent lives, and keep people safe.
00:05:29.540 I cannot imagine someone running for this job who advocates for violence.
00:05:33.620 So far, Democrats sticking by Jones, with Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger condemning the texts,
00:05:40.920 but stopping short of calling for Jones to exit the race.
00:05:44.600 Virginia Lieutenant Governor and Republican gubernatorial nominee Winsome Earl Sears reacting Saturday night.
00:05:50.780 Jay Jones is the poster child for the Democratic establishment, and yet here he fantasizes about murdered little children lying lifeless in their mother's arms.

00:06:10.980 Try to name a Democrat leader who hasn't called the President Hitler.
00:06:15.860 My opponent, Abigail Spanberger, urges often for her supporters to fill their hearts with violent hate.
00:06:28.440 Let your rage fuel you, Abigail says.
00:06:33.640 Well, words have meaning.
00:06:36.380 Rage is defined as violent, uncontrolled anger.
00:06:41.540 The unstable pull the triggers, but they are inspired by the hate tolerated and encouraged by the leadership of the Democrat Party.
00:06:52.880 Spanberger's continuing support for Jay Jones is also disqualifying her for office.
00:07:00.580 She and her party's irresponsible behavior have brought us to this point.
00:07:05.920 President Donald Trump on Truth Social calling Jones' messages, quote, sick and demented, saying he should drop out of the race immediately.
00:07:14.840 Early voting started in Virginia on September 19th.
00:07:18.580 Polls show a tight race between Jones and Mieras.
00:07:22.520 A Biden-appointed judge sentencing the man who attempted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to just eight years and one month in prison on Friday.
00:07:33.140 Nicholas Roski, now 29 years old and newly transgender with the female name Sophie, pleading guilty to one count of attempted assassination of a Supreme Court justice.
00:07:45.640 Prosecutors asking for a sentence of 30 years to life.
00:07:48.940 As part of his guilty plea, Roski admitting he flew from Los Angeles to Dulles International Airport with a firearm and ammo in his checked suitcase, taking a taxi to Kavanaugh's neighborhood with the intent to kill him.
00:08:03.600 Court filings show Roski wanted to take out Kavanaugh before the justice could vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.
00:08:09.380 This happened after the draft of that decision was leaked by someone to the media, a leak that was never investigated by anyone other than the Supreme Court marshal, who, surprise, didn't solve it.
00:08:22.240 Roski ultimately getting cold feet after seeing U.S. Marshals guarding the Kavanaugh residence, eventually calling 911 saying he had suicidal thoughts and needed psychiatric help.
00:08:32.760 U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman giving Roski credit for calling 911 and being sure to use Roski's preferred pronouns and new name.
00:08:42.860 Quote,
00:08:43.080 Good gracious.
00:09:13.080 And get this, the judge even admitting Roski's, quote, gender transition, played a role in her decision.
00:09:19.640 Quote,
00:09:19.860 I take into consideration the conditions of pretrial confinement and the fact that she is a transgender woman and will be sent to a male-only Bureau of Prisons facility.
00:09:32.700 Judge Boardman spent a year in Jordan after college as a Fulbright scholar.
00:09:38.460 Later, she worked as a federal public defender where she served for 11 years.
00:09:42.220 She was among the first district court judges to block President Trump's executive order purporting to end birthright citizenship.
00:09:50.480 Attorney General Pam Bondi vowing to appeal the sentence, writing on X,
00:09:54.580 The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a disgusting attack against our entire judicial system by a profoundly disturbed individual.
00:10:04.380 The Justice Department will be appealing the woefully insufficient sentence imposed by the district court, which does not reflect the horrific facts of this case.
00:10:13.260 End quote.
00:10:13.680 Unfortunately, the standard of review on an appeal of a federal sentence is extremely deferential to the district court judge.
00:10:21.700 Coming up, shocking new details about the arrest of former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez and Sean Diddy Combs learns his fate.
00:10:31.960 You know, all those fad diets, half of Americans do it.
00:10:40.020 And if you do it enough, you could be at risk of diabetes, liver damage, heart attack and stroke.
00:10:44.980 Weight cycling is when you lose 10 or more pounds, but then you put the pounds back on plus a couple more.
00:10:51.500 That puts tremendous strain on your organs and can lead to serious health issues.
00:10:55.560 Bottom line, most people need help to stop weight cycling.
00:10:58.860 And this is why I want to tell you about non-prescription lean created by doctors.
00:11:04.400 Lean is an oral supplement, not a GLP-1 injectable.
00:11:08.560 It uses studied ingredients, which lean says target weight loss in three powerful ways.
00:11:13.660 Maintaining healthy blood sugar, helping control appetite and cravings, burning fat by converting it to energy.
00:11:19.860 And burning fat helps keep the weight off.
00:11:21.700 If you want to lose meaningful weight at a healthy pace and keep it off, consider adding lean to your diet and exercise lifestyle.
00:11:29.380 Get 20% off when you enter MK at TakeLean.com.
00:11:33.280 That's code MK at TakeLean.com.
00:11:38.700 Friday was judgment day for disgraced music mogul Sean Diddy Combs.
00:11:43.080 His sentence, four years and two months in prison plus a $500,000 fine.
00:11:47.580 In July, a federal jury in Manhattan finding Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
00:11:55.240 The same jury acquitting Combs of the more serious racketeering conspiracy charge and of two counts of sex trafficking after an eight-week trial where prosecutors put on evidence that his ex-girlfriends were pressured into having sex with paid male escorts known as freak-offs.
00:12:11.760 Those counts carrying a maximum of life in prison.
00:12:14.560 Combs' defense attorneys conceding at trial that their client had committed domestic violence, but arguing his conduct did not amount to running a criminal enterprise or sex trafficking.
00:12:25.960 That strategy appearing to backfire on Friday.
00:12:29.040 U.S. District Court Judge Aaron Subramanian, a Biden appointee, ruling that a sentencing enhancement for coercion of the women applies in this case.
00:12:38.460 Combs has been incarcerated in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September of last year.
00:12:45.800 The rapper and businessman apparently banking on his time behind bars coming to a quick end, with prosecutors revealing he booked a speaking engagement for this week in Miami.
00:12:56.280 Diddy's 50-month sentence was below the five years and 10 months to seven years and three months the judge said the sentencing guidelines called for,
00:13:03.720 and significantly less than the 11 years and significantly less than the 11 years and three months the prosecution wanted.
00:13:08.460 Combs' six adult children asking the judge for leniency at the sentencing hearing,
00:13:13.040 and his attorneys playing a slickly produced video highlighting Combs' community service and his role as a family man.
00:13:20.200 The rapper who did not testify at trial, addressing the court during sentencing, apologizing to his victims, Cassie Ventura,
00:13:26.860 and a woman who went by Jane at trial.
00:13:30.200 Combs telling the judge,
00:13:31.180 I got lost in excess.
00:13:33.440 I got lost in my ego.
00:13:35.340 Because of my decisions, I lost my freedom.
00:13:37.720 I lost the opportunity to effectively raise my children and be there for my mother.
00:13:42.040 I lost all my businesses.
00:13:43.400 I lost my career.
00:13:44.600 I totally destroyed my reputation.
00:13:46.940 I beg your honor for mercy.
00:13:49.260 But in handing down the sentence,
00:13:50.960 Judge Subramanian saying a substantial sentence was required
00:13:54.520 to, quote,
00:13:55.440 send a message to abusers and victims alike
00:13:57.860 that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.
00:14:03.520 Combs' attorneys say they will make a recommendation today about which prison to send Combs to.
00:14:08.580 The Bureau of Prisons will make the final decision on where Combs ends up.
00:14:12.760 Defense attorney Mark Agnifolo promising Combs will appeal.
00:14:16.820 We are planning to appeal.
00:14:18.320 We think we have strong bases to appeal.
00:14:20.460 The strongest base is that the jury reached a verdict on coercion.
00:14:27.220 It found there was not coercion.
00:14:29.820 And I think the judge said coercion today as a basis for a sentence at least a dozen times.
00:14:36.180 The jury's verdict was resoundingly clear.
00:14:39.180 There was no sex trafficking.
00:14:40.720 There was no racketeering.
00:14:42.340 Everything was consensual.
00:14:43.680 Everything was adult,
00:14:44.960 which is why he was convicted only of the prostitution offense.
00:14:48.500 What we feel happened today was that the judge acted as a 13th juror,
00:14:53.720 one that we did not choose,
00:14:55.540 and that he second-guessed the jury's verdict.
00:15:00.460 And another celebrity crime story is in the news,
00:15:03.620 this time involving former NFL quarterback and current Fox announcer Mark Sanchez
00:15:09.220 in a bizarre situation in Indianapolis.
00:15:12.800 Sanchez was in Indianapolis this weekend to cover the matchup between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders,
00:15:17.860 in his role as an analyst for Fox Sports.
00:15:21.640 TMZ, the first to report that Sanchez had been stabbed in the city just after midnight.
00:15:26.700 He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
00:15:29.940 Sanchez undergoing surgery and now in stable condition,
00:15:33.080 but in a shocking twist,
00:15:35.180 Sanchez was arrested at the hospital
00:15:37.000 and is now facing charges of battery,
00:15:39.320 public intoxication,
00:15:40.840 and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle,
00:15:43.360 all misdemeanors.
00:15:44.220 According to a probable cause affidavit
00:15:46.640 and charging information obtained by The Megyn Kelly Show,
00:15:49.980 an allegedly drunken Sanchez confronted a 69-year-old truck driver
00:15:54.040 who had parked at a hotel's loading dock
00:15:56.640 to recycle the hotel's frying oil.
00:15:59.320 The driver, telling police Sanchez opened the truck's door,
00:16:02.580 telling him he did not have permission to be there
00:16:04.600 and that the hotel did not want its fryer oil to be replaced.
00:16:08.620 The driver, telling police that he did not have his hearing aids in at the time,
00:16:12.940 telling Sanchez to contact his manager,
00:16:15.780 but an allegedly unrelenting Sanchez soon thereafter shoving the driver.
00:16:20.940 The driver then pepper-spraying Sanchez,
00:16:23.480 but the affidavit alleges the former NFL player wiping his face
00:16:27.060 and continuing to attack.
00:16:29.020 The truck driver, telling police he thought,
00:16:30.920 quote, this guy is trying to kill me.
00:16:32.900 He then stabbed Sanchez two or three times.
00:16:35.940 The driver, finding himself on the ground,
00:16:38.020 and video surveillance from a hotel shows Sanchez throwing him there,
00:16:42.740 according to the affidavit.
00:16:44.360 That video footage has yet to be released to the public.
00:16:47.480 Sanchez skyrocketing to fame as the star quarterback
00:16:50.640 of the University of Southern California,
00:16:53.440 throwing for over 3,000 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2008,
00:16:57.340 before the team won the 2009 Rose Bowl.
00:17:00.480 Sanchez had mostly a lackluster 10-year NFL career,
00:17:04.080 throwing for 86 touchdowns and 89 interceptions,
00:17:07.220 which my team tells me is not very good.
00:17:10.460 He was perhaps best known for an infamous November 2012 butt fumble,
00:17:15.160 no clue what that is,
00:17:16.920 against Bill Belichick's New England Patriots
00:17:19.060 when he was QB for the New York Jets.
00:17:21.760 But Sanchez remaining in the tabloids
00:17:23.920 by dating a variety of Hollywood celebs,
00:17:27.060 including Eva Longoria and Kate Upton,
00:17:29.820 before settling down with his current wife,
00:17:31.860 actress Perry Matfeld,
00:17:33.660 best known for the role of Mel on the show Shameless.
00:17:36.560 He has yet to publicly comment on the incident,
00:17:39.640 though Fox Sports referring to it
00:17:41.640 at the top of its game coverage Sunday.
00:17:44.120 I'm Chris Myers along with Brady Quinn,
00:17:46.460 who is stepping in for Mark Sanchez.
00:17:49.400 And obviously we all want to send out our thoughts and prayers to Mark
00:17:53.000 and those involved in Friday's incident
00:17:55.460 as we get ready for today's game.
00:17:58.160 The truck driver treated and released at a different hospital,
00:18:02.440 an anchor for Fox 59 in Indianapolis,
00:18:05.620 sharing photos of the driver in a hospital bed with a neck brace
00:18:08.680 as well as a large, apparently deep,
00:18:11.440 gruesome-looking gash on the left side of his face.
00:18:14.740 No court date has yet been set for Sanchez.
00:18:18.000 According to the Indianapolis Star,
00:18:20.340 Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears,
00:18:22.240 saying, quote,
00:18:23.320 what began as a disagreement
00:18:24.720 between a 38-year-old former professional athlete
00:18:27.720 and a 69-year-old man
00:18:29.600 should not have escalated into violence
00:18:32.140 or left anyone seriously injured.
00:18:34.440 As with any case,
00:18:35.320 we will follow the facts and the law wherever they lead.
00:18:40.320 And that'll do it for your AM update.
