00:00:30.000 Good morning, everyone.

00:00:31.980 I'm Emily Duszynski, host of After Party and the Megyn Kelly Wrap-Up Show on Sirius XM Channel 111.

00:00:38.940 It's Thursday, November 13th, 2025.

00:00:41.600 This is your AM Update.

00:00:43.280 When we come up to midterms and other things, don't forget what they've done to our country.

00:00:47.520 After a record 43 days, the House passes the Senate-backed spending bill

00:00:52.380 and the government officially reopening with President Trump's signature.

00:00:56.580 We're talking about three in four Americans, 75% overall, who say Trump's not paying enough attention to lowering costs.

00:01:03.820 Team Trump brainstorming plans to boost voter confidence on Trump's handling of the economy.

00:01:09.620 11 states facing power grid warnings amid a geomagnetic storm caused by powerful solar flares.

00:01:16.560 And JFK's grandson, with a bizarre social media presence, takes up the family biz, announcing a run for Congress.

00:01:24.240 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.

00:01:31.980 As President Trump is settling into his new administration,

00:01:35.760 one of the top Democrats in Congress aiming to undermine the Trump agenda is Senator Dick Durbin.

00:01:41.340 And according to our sponsor, the Electronic Payments Coalition,

00:01:44.580 Senator Durbin has a new scheme, a government takeover of your credit card.

00:01:48.940 Today, Americans have thousands of choices in credit cards, but they say

00:01:52.740 Senator Durbin's plan will result in less competition and less security.

00:01:57.540 And that means more risk for your credit and identity.

00:02:00.840 Learn more at guardyourcard.com and consider telling your senators to stop

00:02:05.820 Dick Durbin's government takeover of your credit card before it's too late.

00:02:09.800 The government officially reopening last night after a record 43-day shutdown,

00:02:17.620 with President Trump signing the spending package into law shortly after its passage in the House.

00:02:22.860 Mr. Trump delivering remarks upon signing.

00:02:25.700 This cost the country $1.5 trillion, this little excursion that they took us on.

00:02:31.620 Republicans never wanted a shutdown and voted 15 times for a clean continuation of funding.

00:02:37.660 There's never been a time when one or the other party ever didn't sign a continuation.

00:02:45.960 It's just a continuation, not a big deal.

00:02:47.940 It's a continuation, and we'll talk later.

00:02:51.000 Yet the extremists in the other party insisted on creating the longest government shutdown in American history,

00:02:58.240 and they did it purely for political reasons.

00:03:00.480 So I just want to tell the American people you should not forget this.

00:03:05.060 When we come up to midterms and other things, don't forget what they've done to our country.

00:03:09.600 The final House vote on the Senate-backed bill tallying 222 to 209,

00:03:14.600 with two GOP no votes in Congressman Thomas Massey of Kentucky and Congressman Greg Stubbe of Florida,

00:03:21.380 and six Democrat yes votes.

00:03:23.800 The deal, passed by the Senate late Sunday evening,

00:03:26.160 keeps most of the government funded at current levels through January 30th.

00:03:29.920 Certain parts of the government, including the Agricultural Department, FDA, and Veterans Affairs,

00:03:35.540 fully funded through September 30th.

00:03:38.460 Even if Congress fails to pass budget bills in January,

00:03:42.300 the SNAP program, which provides food assistance for low-income families,

00:03:46.660 will remain funded through September under this agreement.

00:03:50.340 Democrats waging the shutdown fight in hopes of forcing an extension of Obamacare subsidies

00:03:55.740 set to expire at the end of the year.

00:03:58.660 Republicans holding firm, with Senate Majority Leader John Thune

00:04:02.040 instead promising to bring a vote on the issue next month.

00:04:06.460 That bill would need 60 votes to pass in the Senate,

00:04:09.900 and would then head to the House, where it faces resistance from House Speaker Mike Johnson.

00:04:16.260 Team Trump looking to boost Americans' confidence in the president's handling of the economy,

00:04:21.000 reports CNN, as new polls show increasing anxiety among voters about affordability.

00:04:27.640 A Wednesday poll from the Associated Press showing only 33% approve of Mr. Trump's managing of the federal government,

00:04:34.080 down from 43% in March,

00:04:36.360 largely driven by declining support among Republicans and independents.

00:04:41.360 On the economy, the president's approval rating dropping from 40% in March to 33% this month.

00:04:46.920 President Trump casting economic anxiety as fake news,

00:04:50.740 one recent example Friday, from the Oval.

00:04:53.640 Prices are down under the Trump administration, and they're down substantially.

00:04:59.140 Energy prices are down by 30%, 35%, 40%.

00:05:02.700 Gasoline is way down.

00:05:05.040 And the other big thing as we started, inflation is way down.

00:05:08.940 The fake news yesterday, they talked about that.

00:05:11.720 They said, oh, I don't want to talk about affordability.

00:05:13.440 The reason I don't want to talk about affordability is because everybody knows

00:05:17.060 that it's far less expensive under Trump than it was under sleepy Joe Biden.

00:05:22.140 CNN's chief data analyst, Harry Enten, on Wednesday flagging the growing concern among voters.

00:05:28.300 Donald Trump might be trying to downplay voters' concerns about affordability,

00:05:32.420 but I'm here to tell you that is a ginormous error.

00:05:35.180 It may be an error that goes down in political infamy.

00:05:38.140 Why do I say that?

00:05:39.160 Well, the reason Donald Trump was elected was to fix the problem of inflation.

00:05:42.800 Right back in October of 2024, who was more trusting inflation?

00:05:46.180 It was Donald Trump by nine points over Kamala Harris.

00:05:48.500 But look at where we are today.

00:05:49.980 Donald Trump is underwater with the Titanic when it comes to inflation.

00:05:53.380 His net approval rating is 26 points underwater.

00:05:56.920 My goodness gracious.

00:05:58.320 We're talking about three in four Americans, 75% overall,

00:06:01.880 who say Trump's not paying enough attention to lowering costs.

00:06:04.580 And even among Republicans, that solid Republican base who oftentimes approves of Trump's job

00:06:10.020 by 85%, 90%, 57% of them say that Trump's not paying enough attention to lowering costs.

00:06:16.860 Earlier this week, a new survey from The Washington Post finding seven in 10 Americans say their grocery

00:06:22.800 costs have risen in the last year.

00:06:24.960 CNN reporting Trump advisors acknowledge they have an affordability and a messaging problem,

00:06:31.060 even as the White House points to declining inflation rates and costs for some items like food and gas.

00:06:37.480 One idea under discussion, ramping up President Trump's U.S. travel and increasing economy-focused

00:06:43.720 speeches touting the White House's domestic agenda and effort to bring down costs ahead of the holidays.

00:06:49.620 As the White House grapples with economic messaging, President Trump upsetting the MAGA base again this

00:06:56.700 week. On Tuesday, Mr. Trump igniting the base again with comments on H-1B visas. The H-1B visa

00:07:03.380 program is designed for foreigners with highly specialized knowledge in a particular field.

00:07:09.540 The MAGA tent divided on the issue. Tech CEOs like Elon Musk arguing the program is

00:07:14.340 essential for keeping the U.S. competitive in high-skill industries. Others insisting

00:07:19.560 it is often abused by employers to cut labor costs, taking away jobs from qualified Americans.

00:07:27.020 Laura Ingram on Fox pressing the president on the subject.

00:07:30.780 Does that mean the H-1B visa thing will not be a big priority for your administration? Because if

00:07:35.860 you want to raise wages for American workers, you can't flood the country with tens of thousands 1.00

00:07:40.760 or hundreds of thousands of foreign workers. I agree, but you also do have to bring in talent.

00:07:45.020 We have plenty of talented people here. No, you don't. No, you don't.

00:07:47.400 We don't have talented people here. No, you don't have certain talents and people have to learn.

00:07:53.020 You can't take people off an unemployment line and say, I'm going to put you into a factory or

00:07:58.640 we're going to make missiles. Yesterday morning on Fox News, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant

00:08:03.680 attempting to recontextualize President Trump's answer. For years, 20, 30 years, we have offshore precision

00:08:11.860 manufacturing jobs. And the president's point here is, again, we can't snap our fingers and say,

00:08:17.920 you're going to learn how to build ships overnight. We want to bring semiconductor industry back to the

00:08:23.880 U.S. There are going to be big facilities in Arizona. So I think the president's vision here

00:08:30.080 is to bring in overseas workers where these jobs went, who have skills, who have the skills,

00:08:36.340 three, five, seven years to train the U.S. workers. Then they can go home. The U.S. workers fully take 0.54

00:08:43.900 over. So do you have it? Do you understand the concern that people have? Hey, an American could have

00:08:48.960 that job. Why are you giving it to a guy from India or China? But an American can't have that job. 1.00

00:08:52.480 So it's specific skills. Because we haven't built ships in the U.S. for years. We haven't built

00:08:56.860 semiconductors. So this idea of overseas partners coming in, teaching American workers, then returning

00:09:05.040 home, that's a home run. The controversy underscoring a deepening divide between the

00:09:10.300 America First populists and the tech wing of the movement, with midterms just one year away.

00:09:16.220 Coming up, a massive geomagnetic storm putting 11 states on notice for possible power grid warnings.

00:09:25.360 And JFK's grandson announces a run for Congress.

00:09:33.680 I've been talking a lot about Riverbend Ranch lately because I love their steaks. Riverbend Ranch has taken

00:09:39.480 black Angus beef to a whole new level. For the last 35 years, Riverbend Ranch has been creating a very

00:09:45.160 elite Angus herd by using ultrasound to select genetically superior cattle with a focus on

00:09:52.260 flavor and tenderness. When you buy from Riverbend Ranch, you are not only supporting the 64 cowboys

00:09:58.420 and cowgirls and their families who work on the ranch, but you're also supporting over 260 other

00:10:04.020 U.S. ranches and the hundreds of American families who work on them. It is born in the USA,

00:10:09.400 raised in the USA, and processed in the USA. It is aged to perfection for 21 days and shipped

00:10:15.600 directly from the ranch to your home. This is not your average black Angus beef. So order from

00:10:21.340 riverbendranch.com. Use the promo code Megan for 20 bucks off your first order and let me know what

00:10:27.420 you think. Riverbendranch.com. Promo code Megan. A massive geomagnetic storm bearing down on the

00:10:36.700 earth, sparking power grid warnings across 11 states, though the National Oceanic and Atmospheric

00:10:42.780 Administration, or NOAA, says the most intense phase is over. According to NOAA, the storm peaking at G4

00:10:50.680 intensity on Wednesday, meteorologist Max Schuster, who goes by max velocity, breaking down the storm

00:10:57.220 scale in a video posted to X. Space weather storms are rated on a scale from G1 to G5, with G1 being

00:11:04.180 minor and G5 being extreme. This one is forecasted to reach G4 level, which is very severe. This is just

00:11:11.260 one step below the most powerful type of geomagnetic storm. These storms can cause a ton of different

00:11:16.760 problems, including disrupting GPS signals, causing radio blackouts, and even creating

00:11:21.960 voltage spikes in power grids. But these storms can also bring incredible northern lights. And keep

00:11:27.840 in mind, a G1 storm usually doesn't bring northern lights much further south than Canada, but we're

00:11:32.980 talking about a G4 storm, which means that northern lights could be visible as far south as Texas and

00:11:38.760 Georgia. This powerful event is being driven by coronal mass ejections, which are also called CMEs.

00:11:44.460 A CME is a massive burst of charged solar particles racing towards Earth. When those particles hit our

00:11:50.460 magnetic field, they can trigger brilliant light shows and temporary tech disruptions. Storms like

00:11:55.840 this only happen a few times a decade and are very difficult to predict in advance.

00:12:00.660 Space.com reporting the solar flare causing the CME was the strongest one of 2025 so far, causing radio

00:12:08.280 blackouts across parts of Europe and Africa earlier this week. Forecasters predict the intensity will

00:12:13.900 reduce throughout today from severe to strong, dwindling to minor by tomorrow. Grid warnings

00:12:20.240 in place across northern states, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin,

00:12:25.840 Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. As for what's causing this intense activity,

00:12:31.860 NPR reporting, quote,

00:12:33.020 The sun is going through a major facelift. Every 11 years, its poles swap places, causing magnetic

00:12:39.100 twists and tangles along the way. In effect of this intense solar activity, the northern lights,

00:12:46.120 typically only visible at the Earth's poles, now appearing much farther south. The dazzling

00:12:51.860 colors forming when particles from the sun slam into Earth's magnetic field. Space.com reporting

00:12:57.980 colorful auroras seen in the sky as far south as Mexico. President John F. Kennedy's only grandson,

00:13:06.640 Jack Schlossberg, announcing on Tuesday a run for New York's 12th congressional district,

00:13:12.100 currently occupied by 78-year-old Democrat Congressman Jerry Nadler, who is retiring at the end of this

00:13:18.860 term. Here, part of Schlossberg's announcement posted to social media.

00:13:23.340 My name is Jack Schlossberg, and I'm running for Congress to represent my home, New York's 12th

00:13:29.520 congressional district, where I was born and raised. I'm not running because I have all the

00:13:33.840 answers to our problems. I'm running because the people of New York 12 do. I want to listen to your

00:13:39.000 struggles, hear your stories, amplify your voice, go to Washington, and execute on your behalf.

00:13:45.800 There is nowhere I'd rather be than in the arena fighting for my hometown. Over the next eight months,

00:13:51.140 during the course of this campaign, I hope to meet as many of you as I can. If you see me on the street,

00:13:56.480 please say hello. If I knock on your door, I hope we can have a conversation, because politics should

00:14:01.620 be personal. Thanks. More to come soon, and I'll see you on the trail, New York 12th.

00:14:07.240 The 32-year-old Democrat holds law and business degrees from Harvard. Prior to the 2024 election,

00:14:13.100 Schlossberg was named political correspondent for Vogue in a glossy spread, where he referred to himself as,

00:14:19.420 quote, a funnel wacky guy. I'm a silly goose, a silly goose who's trying, just trying, to get the 0.99

00:14:26.040 truth out there. Under Schlossberg's byline, a total of seven articles, including a transcript of his 0.97

00:14:32.520 speech at the 2024 Democrat National Convention. Post-college, Schlossberg worked for a short period

00:14:39.160 of time in Japan, where his mother, Caroline Kennedy, was serving as U.S. ambassador. Beyond the glitzy,

00:14:46.320 glowing magazine profiles, Schlossberg's own, less carefully managed, image on social media is at

00:14:52.500 times bizarre and cruel. Earlier this year, Schlossberg receiving a wave of criticism after

00:14:58.600 posting a video mocking his cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s degenerative voice condition.

00:15:04.320 Hey, everybody. I'm trying to figure out the right present to get Donald Trump for the

00:15:12.180 inauguration. So I found a really rare animal and killed it, and I'm going to give it to him. 0.93

00:15:19.160 Schlossberg routinely criticizes his cousin on a both political and personal level. At times,

00:15:24.460 the Kennedy scion firing off bizarre posts, including this one from January, quote,

00:15:30.360 true or false, Usha Vance is way hotter than Jackie O, his grandmother. Schlossberg then following up with, 0.99

00:15:38.400 quote, I'm a literal pervert. I called my grandmother hot. Have I totally lost it? 0.96

00:15:45.200 Schlossberg continuing the post in third person, quote, Jesus, this kid will do anything for

00:15:50.700 attention. Your grandfather would be ashamed. Seriously, time to get a job, end quote. To win

00:15:57.820 this job, Schlossberg campaigning against at least three other declared candidates,

00:16:02.820 the primary set for June of next year.

00:16:08.400 That'll do it for your AM update. I'm Emily Jashinsky, host of After Party. Megan is back
