00:00:24.840 Danish officials. He was the leader for the East Coast, one of the top three in the entire

00:00:29.620 country, right here in Virginia, living half an hour outside of Washington, D.C. Attorney

00:00:36.700 General Pam Bondi announcing the capture of a high-profile MS-13 gang member. RFKJ announcing

00:00:43.640 a streamlining of the sprawling HHS department. President Trump asks New York Congresswoman

00:00:49.100 Elise Stefanik to withdraw her nomination for U.N. ambassador. And new details in the mysterious

00:00:55.680 death of former U.S. attorney Jessica Aber. All that and more coming up in just a moment

00:01:01.180 on your AM Update.

00:02:03.920 Vice President J.D. Vance in Greenland today, along with Second Lady Usha Vance,

00:02:09.220 National Security Advisor Mike Walls, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. The agenda now a scaled

00:02:15.340 back version of what was originally planned. The trip announced on Sunday, billed as a solo

00:02:20.580 goodwill visit for Ms. Vance to absorb and learn about Greenland's culture. Ms. Vance had planned a

00:02:26.700 tour of the capital, Nook, as Mr. Waltz and Secretary Wright visited the U.S. Space Force base in

00:02:32.800 Bidoufique, about 600 miles away. Mr. Waltz's inclusion on the trip sparking backlash from

00:02:39.060 Greenlandic and Danish officials as President Trump vows to acquire the semi-autonomous territory,

00:02:44.860 quote, one way or another. The goodwill souring when a Greenland tourism business,

00:02:50.240 Tupelok Travel, canceled the planned meet-and-greet event with the Second Lady. The business,

00:02:55.040 posting to Facebook, quote, we have now informed the consulate that we do not want her visit,

00:03:00.020 as we cannot accept the underlying agenda and will not be part of the press show.

00:03:05.280 Shortly after that public snub, Vice President Vance announcing he would join the trip himself,

00:03:10.840 posting this message to X. A lot of other countries have threatened Greenland,

00:03:16.760 have threatened to use its territories and its waterways to threaten the United States,

00:03:20.820 to threaten Canada, and of course to threaten the people of Greenland. So we're going to check out

00:03:24.760 how things are going there. And I say that speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate

00:03:30.220 the security of the people of Greenland because we think it's important to protecting the security

00:03:35.100 of the entire world. The delegation now only scheduled to visit the U.S. Space Force base.

00:03:41.140 Trips to U.S. bases by American officials are generally considered routine and non-controversial.

00:03:46.220 Denmark Foreign Minister Lars Luka Rasmussen saying, quote,

00:03:50.360 I think it's very positive that the Americans have canceled their visit among Greenlandic society.

00:03:55.820 They will only visit their own base, Bidoufiq, and we have nothing against that.

00:04:00.820 President Trump on Wednesday doubling down on his desire to take control of the Arctic island.

00:04:06.260 We need Greenland for international safety and security. We need it. We have to have it. And

00:04:13.140 it's an island that, from a defensive posture and even offensive posture, is something we need,

00:04:20.220 especially with the world the way it is. And we're going to have to have it. And so I hate to put it

00:04:25.540 that way, but we're going to have to have it. The trip marking Vice President Vance's and NSA

00:04:30.380 Waltz's first overseas trip since The Atlantic magazine reported that its editor-in-chief,

00:04:36.100 was somehow admitted into a private signal messaging group used by senior administration

00:04:41.200 officials. The message is revealing debate among top intel officials on the pros and cons of

00:04:47.020 attacking Houthi rebels in order to break their hold on an important global shipping lane.

00:04:52.480 Mr. Vance writing in the chat, quote, if you think we should do it, let's go. I just hate

00:04:56.900 bailing Europe out again. The Wall Street Journal reporting, quote, European leaders had hoped that

00:05:02.580 Vice President Vance's antagonism was a political show to build domestic support. Officials are

00:05:08.600 coming to terms with a vocal vice president whose antipathy for Europe appears to run deep.

00:05:14.740 In recent months, Mr. Vance making waves on the world stage, delivering a clear message on behalf

00:05:19.780 of the president. The United States will support its allies, but only if they act like friends.

00:05:26.340 The threat that I worry the most about vis-a-vis Europe is not Russia. It's not China. It's not

00:05:33.080 any other external actor. And what I worry about is the threat from within the retreat of Europe 0.71

00:05:41.020 from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.

00:05:46.520 Do you think that it's respectful to come to the Oval Office of the United States of America and attack

00:05:51.540 the administration that is trying to prevent the destruction of your country?

00:05:55.660 President Trump making it a key priority of his second administration,

00:05:59.700 getting European allies to step up and pay their fair share.

00:06:06.280 Attorney General Pam Bondi early Thursday morning announcing a major arrest.

00:06:11.280 Early this morning, one of the top leaders of MS-13 was apprehended. He was the leader for the

00:06:19.380 East Coast, one of the top three in the entire country, right here in Virginia, living half an

00:06:26.540 hour outside of Washington, D.C. He is an illegal alien from El Salvador, and he will not be living 1.00

00:06:33.860 in our country much longer. The suspect, 24-year-old Henry Josue Villatoro Santos. The charges against him

00:06:41.980 and where he is currently being held, not yet released. Virginia is not a sanctuary state,

00:06:47.760 but several localities, mostly in northern Virginia, where Mr. Santos was arrested,

00:06:53.080 have policies barring local officials from cooperating with the feds. The operation,

00:06:58.280 a joint effort between federal, state, and local officials. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin

00:07:02.720 describing the cooperation leading to the arrest. This task force was architected in a very quick

00:07:10.000 period of time and stood up immediately. And in fact, when Director Patel was confirmed within a

00:07:16.500 day, he authorized this facility and these capabilities, General Bondi immediately came to

00:07:24.000 lead it. And we found ourselves with truly one-of-a-kind resources going to work. And the minute that we had

00:07:31.220 partners that would do this with us, then lists of five, six, seven hundred targets could be put together

00:07:37.360 in collaboration with state police and federal authorities and our Department of Corrections.

00:07:42.620 Critically important, and I cannot emphasize enough, the collaboration and support and leadership

00:07:48.720 out of the new administration that is so different than what we saw in at least the previous three

00:07:53.500 years of my administration. MS-13 is one of the most violent gangs in the world. Originally forming in

00:07:59.920 the 1980s on the streets of Los Angeles, now based in El Salvador, the gang extends into Honduras,

00:08:06.220 Guatemala, and Mexico with thousands of members. Members are often required to commit a murder to

00:08:11.840 gain membership. Their motto? Kill, rape, control. The gang responsible for many gruesome, high-profile

00:08:19.440 murders in America. In 2017, a female member lured the group of men into a Long Island park where they were

00:08:27.900 hacked to death in a planned ambush. Dozens of reports outlining similar instances of brutality

00:08:34.640 against Americans. FBI Director Kash Patel remarking at the press conference the work of their task force

00:08:41.180 is far from finished. This is a mandate we have. Right now we have an American dying every seven minutes

00:08:48.660 from a drug overdose. That is a national security crisis we have not seen ever before. We have a woman

00:08:55.000 or child being raped every six and a half minutes in this country. We have a homicide twice an hour.

00:09:01.140 No part of that metric is a safe and secure America. But thanks to the brave leadership of

00:09:06.040 this administration and the folks that you see here, we are returning our communities to safety.

00:09:11.860 The Virginia Homeland Security Task Force arresting more than 340 of their 575 illegal alien targets.

00:09:20.520 Secretary of Health and Human Services RFKJ announcing a restructuring of the sprawling department he

00:09:30.060 oversees. 28 great divisions will become 15. The entire federal workforce is downsizing now,

00:09:37.840 so this will be a painful period for HHS as we downsize from 82,000 full-time employees to around

00:09:45.680 62,000. We're keenly focused on paring away excess administrators while increasing the number of

00:09:53.460 scientists and frontline health providers so that we can do a better job for the American people.

00:09:58.940 The new umbrella group for the streamlined departments will be called the Administration

00:10:02.820 for a Healthy America, or AHA, a nod to the MAHA movement. The new department combining offices

00:10:09.680 handling addiction, toxic substances, occupational safety, mental health, and others. In late

00:10:16.060 February, the Office of Budget and Management issuing a memorandum directing federal agencies to prepare

00:10:21.460 plans to downsize. Since the beginning of the second Trump administration, about 10,000 HHS employees

00:10:27.960 accepting buyout offers. RFKJ's plan will cut about another 10,000. Secretary Kennedy says his

00:10:35.200 department is filled with tremendous bloat and redundancies. During the Biden administration,

00:10:41.160 HHS's budget increased by 38 percent and its staffing increased by 17 percent, but all that money

00:10:49.060 has failed to improve the health of Americans. In fact, the rate of chronic disease and cancer

00:10:55.140 increased dramatically as our department has grown. When I arrived, I found that over half of our employees

00:11:02.160 don't even come to work. HHS has more than 100 communications offices and more than 40 IT

00:11:08.200 departments and dozens of procurement offices and nine HR departments. In many cases, they don't even

00:11:15.220 talk to each other. HHS operates under a budget of $1.7 trillion. RFKJ saying this restructuring will

00:11:22.360 save the department about $1.8 billion each year. Democrats? Not thrilled. The Trump administration

00:11:29.180 is endangering your family to make more room in their budget for tax breaks for billionaires and big

00:11:37.480 corporations. These anti-vaxxers are slashing vaccine research and at the very same time dedicating

00:11:44.740 resources to launch vaccine conspiracy investigations and resurrect debunked science. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

00:11:52.280 is using the Department of Health and Human Services to do the bidding of Elon Musk and Donald Trump

00:11:59.140 it is a make America sick again agenda. Secretary Kennedy maintains no core functions of the

00:12:06.480 department will be compromised. The announcement on the heels of two big confirmations within HHS.

00:12:12.180 On Tuesday, Stanford professor Dr. Jay Bhattacharya confirmed on a party line vote as head of the NIH.

00:12:20.040 Wow. Dr. Bhattacharya, an early critic of COVID lockdowns, promising to open up robust scientific debate

00:12:26.640 within his organization. It was just three years ago he was being smeared as a fringe doctor by

00:12:34.820 Fauci and Collins. The Senate also confirming Dr. Marty McCary of Johns Hopkins as commissioner of the

00:12:41.120 FDA. Three Democrats joining Republicans to confirm Dr. McCary, New Hampshire Senators Maggie Hassan and

00:12:47.800 Jean Shaheen, as well as Illinois Senator Dick Durbin. Both doctors, key allies of President Trump and

00:12:54.260 Secretary Kennedy committed to carrying out the administration's vision of making America healthy

00:13:00.280 again. Coming up, President Trump asks New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik to withdraw her nomination

00:13:07.420 for U.N. ambassador. And new details emerge in the untimely death of former U.S. attorney Jessica Aber.

00:13:13.780 Tariff wars, stubborn inflation. No wonder gold has been routinely hitting all-time highs, right?

00:13:21.500 In volatile markets like the one we have now, don't sit on the sidelines with your head in the sand.

00:13:25.880 You can take control and safeguard your savings. This is why so many Americans today are turning to

00:13:30.800 Birch Gold Group. They have helped tens of thousands convert an existing IRA or 401k into an IRA in

00:13:38.020 physical gold. Is it time for you to hedge against economic instability with gold? Well, to learn more

00:13:58.660 A-plus rating with the Better Business Bureau. That's big. A-plus. They've got countless of five-star

00:14:03.780 reviews, and they have helped too many to count, protect their savings with gold. It took us

00:14:09.860 decades to get into the tangled mess that we are now trying to unpack in D.C. How long do you think

00:14:15.100 it's going to take for us to really get out of it, and at what cost? Text MK to 989898 today.

00:14:25.700 President Trump requesting that New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik withdraw her nomination

00:14:30.480 for ambassador to the United Nations. Mr. Trump writing on Truth Social, quote,

00:14:35.680 as we advance our America First agenda, it is essential that we maintain every Republican seat

00:14:40.540 in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part

00:14:46.560 of our efforts from the very beginning. With a very tight majority, I don't want to take a chance on

00:14:51.460 anyone else running for Elise's seat. Congresswoman Stefanik will rejoin the House Republican leadership

00:14:57.360 ranks. She stepped down from her position as conference chair following her nomination to the

00:15:02.500 U.N. The current balance of power in the House, standing at 218 to 213, giving Republicans a very

00:15:09.940 narrow edge. That advantage could shrink further depending on the outcomes of four upcoming special

00:15:16.220 elections. Ms. Stefanik, a close Trump ally, was one of the first nominations of the second Trump

00:15:21.760 administration. The announcement made just days after the election. The congresswoman at age 30

00:15:27.480 was the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at the time in 2014 when she ran as a moderate. She was

00:15:34.140 re-elected in 2016, embracing the MAGA agenda in the first Trump administration. In nominating her to

00:15:41.120 the U.N., President Trump describing Ms. Stefanik as, quote, an incredibly strong, tough, and smart

00:15:46.780 America first fighter. The president referencing moments like this one in December 2023 as she

00:15:53.140 grilled the Ivy League president's handling of illegal displays of on-campus anti-Semitism.

00:15:58.980 Do you understand your testimony is dehumanizing them? Do you understand that dehumanization is part

00:16:05.160 of anti-Semitism? I will ask you one more time. Does calling for the genocide of Jews violate

00:16:12.520 Harvard's rules of bullying and harassment, yes or no? It depends on the context. It does not depend

00:16:19.260 on the context. The answer is yes, and this is why you should resign. These are unacceptable answers

00:16:25.000 across the board. House Speaker Mike Johnson releasing a statement that reads, quote, there is no doubt

00:16:30.600 Congresswoman Stefanik would have served with distinction as our ambassador to the U.N., but we are grateful for

00:16:36.760 her willingness to sacrifice that position and remain in Congress to help us save the country. The

00:16:42.460 House is currently working on major pieces of legislation involving the border, energy, and taxes.

00:16:48.720 An update on the cause of death for former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber. The family saying the 43-year-old

00:16:55.580 died in her sleep, releasing a statement reading, quote, Jess suffered from epilepsy and epileptic seizures

00:17:02.420 for many years. Ms. Aber was found unresponsive in her Alexandria, Virginia home on Saturday morning.

00:17:08.440 The case will remain open until the office of the chief medical examiner completes its report.

00:17:14.460 Police officials believe her death to be the result of natural causes. As U.S. Attorney for the Eastern

00:17:19.820 District of Virginia, Ms. Aber oversaw many high-profile cases, including CIA leaks and international fraud.

00:17:27.240 Her successor, U.S. Attorney Eric Siebert, offering in a statement, quote,

00:17:31.180 quote, her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard. Though we are devastated by this

00:17:37.280 loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor

00:17:42.900 to live up to it. And that'll do it for your AM Update. I'm Megan Kelly. Join me back here for
