The Megyn Kelly Show - Trump's Bombshell Autism Announcement, Kimmel Is Already Back, Kamala Book Backlash： AM Update 9⧸23

00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, and this is

00:00:08.220 your AM Update.

00:00:09.460 Taking Tylenol is not good.

00:00:12.260 We have also identified an exciting therapy.

00:00:15.020 President Trump and HHS Secretary Kennedy announcing a potential cause of autism and

00:00:20.660 a new treatment for children on the spectrum.

00:00:23.160 She's going to have to answer to how she was in the room and yet never said anything publicly.

00:00:28.900 Former Vice President Kamala Harris's new book is out and fellow Dems are not happy.

00:00:35.020 In a major reversal, Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to ABC tonight.

00:00:39.960 And Ryan Ruth on trial for allegedly attempting to assassinate President Trump on a golf course

00:00:44.840 in Florida, arresting his defense after just one day and three witnesses.

00:00:50.120 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.

00:00:53.000 As President Trump is settling into his new administration, one of the top Democrats in

00:01:00.740 Congress aiming to undermine the Trump agenda is Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois.

00:01:06.180 And according to our sponsor, the Electronic Payments Coalition, Senator Durbin has a new

00:01:11.380 plan, a government takeover of your credit card.

00:01:14.640 Today, Americans have thousands of choices in credit cards, but they say Senator Durbin's

00:01:19.280 plan will result in less competition and less security, which means more risk for your

00:01:24.420 credit and your identity.

00:01:26.060 You can learn more for yourself at guardyourcard.com.

00:01:29.720 And you could consider telling your senators to stop Dick Durbin's government takeover of

00:01:34.400 your credit card before it's too late.

00:01:39.900 President Trump and HHS officials yesterday announcing a potential major scientific breakthrough,

00:01:45.180 a possible cause of autism, pointing to Tylenol use during pregnancy.

00:01:51.320 Effective immediately, the FDA will be notifying physicians that the use of acetaminophen, which

00:01:57.820 is basically commonly known as Tylenol, during pregnancy can be associated with a very increased

00:02:05.580 risk of autism.

00:02:07.800 So taking Tylenol is not good.

00:02:11.500 All right, I'll say it.

00:02:12.540 It's not good.

00:02:13.320 For this reason, they are strongly recommending that women limit Tylenol use during pregnancy

00:02:19.440 unless medically necessary.

00:02:22.720 That's, for instance, in cases of extremely high fever.

00:02:27.260 In the early 90s, according to the Associated Press, one in 10,000 children were diagnosed

00:02:32.860 with autism.

00:02:33.980 Today, that's one in 31.

00:02:37.040 In April, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. calling autism an epidemic.

00:02:41.780 Promising by September to begin delivering answers on the cause for the alarming increase.

00:02:47.900 With yesterday's announcement, the FDA will issue notice to physicians on the findings

00:02:52.680 and begin label changes on Tylenol packaging.

00:02:55.840 Secretary Kennedy noting that there is no alternative fever reducer for pregnant women, saying the

00:03:01.520 FDA will encourage doctors to only prescribe the lowest possible dose for fevers in pregnant

00:03:06.940 women when it is absolutely necessary.

00:03:10.120 Kenview, a manufacturer of Tylenol, releasing a statement to CNN, quote,

00:03:14.540 The facts are that over a decade of rigorous research endorsed by leading medical professionals

00:03:20.280 and global health regulators confirms there is no credible evidence linking acetaminophen

00:03:26.100 to autism.

00:03:27.540 We stand with the many public health and medical professionals who have reviewed this science

00:03:31.800 and agree.

00:03:32.860 We will continue to explore all options to protect the health interests of American women and

00:03:37.780 children.

00:03:38.100 The administration citing research released by Harvard University in August.

00:03:43.660 Harvard's Dean of the School of Public Health, Dr. Andrea Baccarelli, releasing a statement,

00:03:49.620 quote,

00:03:49.780 We found evidence of an association between exposure to acetaminophen during pregnancy and increased

00:03:56.200 incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders in children.

00:04:00.180 Secretary RFKJ and FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty McCary also announcing a new FDA-approved treatment

00:04:07.020 for children with autism.

00:04:08.480 We have also identified an exciting therapy that may benefit large numbers of children who

00:04:14.220 suffer from autism.

00:04:16.200 Be-reviewed literature has documented that up to 60% of folate-deficient children with ASD

00:04:21.700 can improve verbal communications if given leukovorin.

00:04:26.360 We expect this to be the first of many announcements over the coming years that deliver actionable information

00:04:33.040 to parents on underlying cause of autism and the potential paths for prevention and reversal.

00:04:38.680 One study found that with kids with autism and chronic folate deficiency, two-thirds of

00:04:44.360 kids with autism symptoms had improvement and some marked improvement.

00:04:50.020 Leukovorin, a form of vitamin B9, is the first FDA-recognized therapeutic for children with autism.

00:04:57.100 Some in the media saying there's little evidence the treatment is effective.

00:05:00.120 However, the Washington Post, of all places, reporting the drug has shown real hope in

00:05:05.120 some small clinical trials, quote,

00:05:07.420 For a select group of autistic individuals, leukovorin may boost communication and cognition

00:05:13.420 in ways once thought impossible.

00:05:16.080 Researchers believe some with autism have difficulty transporting an essential nutrient for neurodevelopment

00:05:21.680 called folate to the brain.

00:05:24.060 Scientists believe the medication may help deliver folate more effectively, alleviating some autism

00:05:29.580 symptoms.

00:05:30.700 As far as vaccines and a potential link to autism, President Trump appearing to get ahead of

00:05:35.860 any planned announcements.

00:05:37.580 Other things that we recommend, or certainly I do anyway, on the vaccines, it would be good

00:05:43.740 instead of one visit where they pump the baby loaded up with stuff, you'll do it over a period

00:05:50.200 of four times or five times.

00:05:52.200 The MMR, I think, should be taken separately.

00:05:54.980 This is based on what I feel, the mumps, measles, and the three should be taken separately.

00:06:04.200 And it seems to be that when you mix them, there could be a problem.

00:06:08.260 So there's no downside in taking them separately.

00:06:13.020 In fact, they think it's better, so let it be separate.

00:06:15.980 Hepatitis B is sexually transmitted.

00:06:20.180 There's no reason to give a baby that's almost just born hepatitis B.

00:06:26.860 So I would say wait till the baby is 12 years old and formed.

00:06:31.600 While HHS may not be ready to make any formal announcements on vaccines and autism, Secretary

00:06:37.420 Kennedy is saying HHS will leave no stone unturned in continuing to identify causes.

00:06:43.480 One area that we are closely examining, as the president mentioned, is vaccines.

00:06:50.000 Some 40 to 70 percent of mothers who have children with autism believe that their child was injured

00:06:57.600 by a vaccine.

00:06:58.400 President Trump believes that we should be listening to these mothers instead of gaslighting

00:07:04.080 and marginalizing them like prior administrations.

00:07:09.340 Some of our friends like to say we should believe all women.

00:07:13.980 Some of the same people have been silencing and demonizing these mothers for three decades 0.96

00:07:19.560 because research on the potential link between autism and vaccines has been actively suppressed

00:07:26.960 in the past.

00:07:28.720 It will take time for an honest look at this topic by scientists.

00:07:33.080 But I want to reassure the people in the autism community that we will be uncompromising and 1.00

00:07:38.700 relentless in our search for answers.

00:07:43.340 Jimmy Kimmel Live!

00:07:44.860 Set to return to ABC tonight because when you're a leftist, you don't really get cancelled,

00:07:49.980 unlike those on the right who are getting cancelled and even killed.

00:07:53.400 Less than one week after Kimmel's show was suspended, he's back, following false and

00:07:59.600 inflammatory comments he made suggesting Charlie Kirk's alleged killer was a Trump supporter

00:08:04.960 last Monday.

00:08:06.580 Next are the nation's largest owner of ABC affiliate broadcast stations announcing plans

00:08:12.040 last Wednesday to preempt the show.

00:08:14.340 Sinclair, another large affiliate owner, following suit.

00:08:17.720 Reports indicating Kimmel was planning to double down on his incendiary comments on that night's

00:08:22.980 show, that he was going to attack MAGA and blame them for twisting his remarks.

00:08:28.520 And that's when network executives decided to shelf production.

00:08:32.460 Yesterday evening, the Walt Disney Company releasing a statement, quote,

00:08:35.900 We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations,

00:08:41.120 we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.

00:08:45.180 CNBC reporting Kimmel will address the matter on his show set to be taped today.

00:08:49.260 Executive producer of the Charlie Kirk show, Andrew Colvitt, posting to X,

00:08:54.980 Disney and ABC caving and allowing Kimmel back on the air is not surprising, but it's their

00:09:00.060 mistake to make.

00:09:01.420 Nextar and Sinclair do not have to make the same choice.

00:09:05.220 And indeed, yesterday evening, Sinclair announcing that it will be preempting Kimmel across its

00:09:10.780 38 affiliate stations.

00:09:12.640 It is unclear if Nextar will do the same.

00:09:15.680 Coming up, Kamala Harris's memoir, 107 Days, is out, and Democrats are not happy.

00:09:23.700 But we are.

00:09:25.080 And accused would-be Trump assassin Ryan Ruth rests his defense in just one day.

00:10:36.180 Former Vice President Kamala Harris's memoir, 107 Days, officially hitting shelves today.

00:10:42.540 The memoirs roll out offering a glimpse of a looser, more unguarded Kamala Harris,

00:10:47.340 one eager to point in any direction but the mirror,

00:10:50.300 while seeking to explain the spectacular collapse of her short-lived campaign. 0.98

00:10:55.620 Despite growing questions about President Biden's mental and physical fitness,

00:10:59.440 Harris writing that she could not have voiced concerns because, as Vice President,

00:11:03.760 any doubts she raised would come off as self-serving.

00:11:07.000 Concluding, however, that it was reckless to leave the choice to, quote,

00:11:10.420 an individual's ego, an individual's ambition.

00:11:13.540 It should have been more than a personal decision.

00:11:17.060 According to Axios, Team Biden reacted with, quote, rage to this passage, responding, quote,

00:11:23.100 Vice President Harris was simply not good at the job.

00:11:26.200 She had basically zero substantive role in any of the administration's key work streams,

00:11:31.320 and instead would just dive-bomb in for stilted photo ops that exposed how out-of-depth she was.

00:11:38.760 President Biden, not the only fellow Democrat to catch heat in the 320-page memoir,

00:11:43.640 Ms. Harris describing her vice presidential vetting process,

00:11:46.780 saying she ruled out top contender Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro,

00:11:50.120 despite representing a critical swing state,

00:11:53.000 in part because he was too ambitious,

00:11:55.480 accusing him of being more focused on perks of the office,

00:11:59.020 like decorating the residence, than in doing the job.

00:12:02.840 Ms. Harris writing that she worried, quote,

00:12:04.780 he would be unable to settle for a role as number two,

00:12:08.180 and that it would wear on our partnership.

00:12:11.060 Governor Shapiro, considered by many to be a likely 2028 presidential contender,

00:12:15.460 returning the attack on Stephen A. Smith's podcast late last week.

00:12:19.540 I mean, look, I haven't read the former vice president's book,

00:12:22.560 and she's going to have to answer to how she was in the room,

00:12:27.320 and yet never said anything publicly.

00:12:30.880 I can tell you that I wasn't in the room,

00:12:33.560 but when I was confronted with engagement with the former president,

00:12:39.400 in looking at it simply from the perspective of,

00:12:43.400 how's he doing in Pennsylvania?

00:12:44.920 Could he win Pennsylvania?

00:12:46.200 And I was very vocal with him privately,

00:12:48.880 and extremely vocal with his staff about my concerns

00:12:52.600 about his fitness to be able to run for another term.

00:12:56.300 I believe in talking directly to the individuals,

00:12:59.220 not running around and talking to the media.

00:13:01.720 For what it's worth, Mr. Shapiro did run around talking to the media

00:13:05.340 after that disastrous Trump-Biden debate.

00:13:08.220 This is what he sounded like then.

00:13:09.920 I acknowledge he had a bad night in the debate last night.

00:13:13.760 It doesn't change the fact that Donald Trump was a bad president.

00:13:17.040 And certainly, we need to be crisper in delivering that message.

00:13:21.100 Well, I would just say, Democrats, stop worrying and start working.

00:13:24.980 We all have a responsibility here to do our part.

00:13:28.980 Ms. Harris also revealing former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg

00:13:32.480 was her top choice as a running mate,

00:13:35.020 but she decided it was too much of a risk to pick a gay man.

00:13:38.580 Harris writing, quote,

00:13:39.800 Buttigieg would have been an ideal partner if I were a straight white man,

00:13:44.160 but we were already asking a lot of America to accept a woman, 1.00

00:13:47.480 a black woman, a black woman married to a Jewish man. 0.92

00:13:50.720 Part of me wanted to say, screw it, let's just do it. 0.98

00:13:53.660 But knowing what was at stake, it was too big of a risk.

00:13:56.340 And I think Pete also knew that to our mutual sadness.

00:14:00.360 However, it appears Secretary Buttigieg may not have actually known that.

00:14:04.940 Politico capturing his reaction.

00:14:06.540 Well, I was surprised when I read that.

00:14:09.580 I just believe in giving Americans more credit than that.

00:14:12.580 My experience in politics has been that the way that you earn trust with voters

00:14:18.600 is based mostly on what they think you're going to do for their lives, not on categories.

00:14:24.600 Early reviews for the book are not exactly raving.

00:14:27.400 From The Guardian, quote,

00:14:28.420 I don't know if Harris found writing 107 days cathartic, but reading it certainly wasn't.

00:14:33.720 It seems likely to alienate her critics further and provides no closure or hope for her supporters.

00:14:40.480 From Semaphore, quote,

00:14:41.580 After 107 days, Kamala Harris doesn't know how to win. 1.00

00:14:45.880 Democrat insiders are not pleased either.

00:14:48.520 Political strategist David Axelrod telling Politico, quote,

00:14:51.300 If there's a political strategy here, it's a bad one.

00:14:54.760 There's an awful lot of grievances and finger-pointing that doesn't really serve a political agenda.

00:14:59.940 Despite Democrat displeasure with the revelations from 107 days,

00:15:04.100 the Megyn Kelly Show team is thrilled Vice President Harris will be back to making the media rounds.

00:15:08.760 She officially kicked off her book tour on Rachel Maddow's MSNBC program last night,

00:15:13.280 and she is set to appear on The View later today.

00:15:16.480 We will watch so you don't have to.

00:15:20.500 The man accused of attempting to assassinate then-candidate Donald Trump

00:15:24.480 resting his defense on Monday in a Florida federal courtroom.

00:15:28.520 Ryan Ruth, representing himself despite no legal training,

00:15:32.120 calling three witnesses to the stand, then resting without testifying himself.

00:15:36.680 The first witness, Michael McClay, a former Marine sniper instructor.

00:15:41.060 McClay testifying he fired two shots from Ruth's rifle as a test prior to the trial.

00:15:46.600 Ruth also calling two character witnesses,

00:15:49.160 each witness saying Ruth is a peaceful man, however, on cross,

00:15:52.660 both saying they had not seen him in years.

00:15:55.700 The prosecution resting its case last Friday.

00:15:58.160 The Fed's calling 38 witnesses over nearly two weeks of testimony with hundreds of exhibits.

00:16:03.920 The final witness on Friday, FBI Supervisory Special Agent Kimberly McGreevy,

00:16:09.160 tying all the pieces together.

00:16:10.960 McGreevy walking the jury through evidence showing Ruth lived at a Palm Beach County gas station

00:16:15.760 for at least a month in the lead-up to the alleged assassination attempt,

00:16:20.100 conducting surveillance on Mr. Trump.

00:16:22.400 Data from six phones allegedly belonging to Ruth,

00:16:25.740 containing searches for Mr. Trump's campaign events, golf courses, and plane tracking websites.

00:16:31.800 Agent McGreevy testifying, quote,

00:16:33.320 he was living at that truck stop, conducting physical and electronic surveillance,

00:16:38.000 and stalking the former president.

00:16:40.220 On September 15th of last year, a Secret Service agent spotting the barrel of the rifle,

00:16:45.240 poking out of some bushes ahead of President Trump's arrival for an afternoon of golf.

00:16:50.360 Agents then opening fire,

00:16:52.200 Ruth apprehended about an hour later on a nearby highway.

00:16:55.080 Prosecutors say Ruth texted his three children less than an hour before his planned assassination of President Trump,

00:17:02.660 Ruth allegedly writing to his daughter Sarah, quote,

00:17:05.140 love you so much, you are the best daughter.

00:17:08.360 Sarah sitting in court each day in support of her father,

00:17:11.340 speaking to local outlet WPBF last week.

00:17:14.400 I mean, like, he's never wronged anybody,

00:17:16.680 and he's always been devoted to helping other people,

00:17:20.080 and he doesn't understand why there's not more support out there.

00:17:24.320 Well, I mean, he is on trial for allegedly attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate,

00:17:29.180 which most people would say is not a good, kind, or gentle thing.

00:17:32.980 Yeah, no comment on that.

00:17:34.840 Ruth facing five total charges,

00:17:37.260 including the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate,

00:17:40.420 assaulting a federal officer,

00:17:41.620 being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition,

00:17:45.280 and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

00:17:49.400 Faces up to life in prison,

00:17:51.220 closing arguments expected to begin today.

00:17:56.080 And that'll do it for your AM Update.
