Summary

Shots were fired at a pro-Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday night. President Trump was rushed to a local hospital with blood on his face, but is otherwise fine, according to the Trump campaign and the media. Michael Krumholz explains why this is so shocking.

Transcript

00:00:00.000 Good evening, I'm Michael Knowles. I'm very sorry to be joining you this Saturday evening.
00:00:04.920 President Trump, I was giving a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. As you heard on that clip,
00:00:11.100 what pretty clearly sounded like shots rang out. President Trump went down, Secret Service went
00:00:16.780 down. When President Trump got back up, he had blood on the side of his face and what appears
00:00:22.620 to have been blood on his ear. And then like a legend, like a world historic figure, like a
00:00:32.120 national leader, he gets up as Secret Service is trying to whisk him off the stage. He turns to
00:00:37.840 the microphone, he raises his fist in the air, and he says what couldn't be picked up on the mic,
00:00:42.480 but it looked pretty clearly like fight, fight, fight before Secret Service pulls him off stage.
00:00:49.160 We don't know much more than that. The Secret Service has released a statement.
00:00:56.700 The U.S. Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former president is safe.
00:01:01.220 This is now an active Secret Service investigation. Further information will be released when available.
00:01:08.740 News networks on the scene have reported that Trump was injured, but have given no additional
00:01:14.620 details. You can all see, though, it's pretty clear he was injured because he has blood over the side
00:01:20.400 of his face. The Trump campaign has released a statement. A Trump spokesman says that the former
00:01:26.600 president, quote, thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this
00:01:32.460 heinous act. And thank God the Trump campaign is reporting that Trump is fine. Obviously, he's not
00:01:38.900 fine. What sounded like shots rang out at the rally and Trump's face is bloodied. I hesitate to say
00:01:47.200 that President Trump has been shot because we just don't really know the details. This is happening in
00:01:53.660 real time. So I'm going with what the Trump campaign is saying, what the U.S. Secret Service are saying.
00:01:57.820 But in any case, there was clearly some violent incident at the Trump rally. Trump bloodied. And thank God
00:02:05.740 the Trump campaign is saying he is fine, meaning it seems that he will recover. He'll survive. He's being
00:02:12.020 checked out at a local medical facility. The context around this, of course, is that the Republican
00:02:18.140 National Convention is set to begin in Milwaukee on Monday. The other context around this, of course,
00:02:24.600 is that the Democratic Party is in a moment of crisis because Democrat elites have given up on the
00:02:34.000 incumbent president, the presumptive nominee Joe Biden. They're trying to oust him after a disastrous
00:02:40.100 debate with Donald Trump just some weeks ago. The other context around this, according to the
00:02:47.380 news networks that are reporting on this, liberal news networks, of course, but I repeat myself,
00:02:54.040 the journalists are shocked. They say they are shocked. This is so unexpected. I don't know how they
00:03:01.600 could possibly say with a straight face other than their sheer skill at mendacity and deception and
00:03:08.800 dishonesty. I don't know how anyone could say with a straight face that something like this is
00:03:14.880 unexpected. Six days ago, the New Republic, one of the most prestigious and established liberal
00:03:21.460 magazines, ran a cover with Trump's face as Hitler. Trump with Hitler's haircut, Trump with Hitler's
00:03:27.300 mustache, big cover, American fascism, what it would look like. Here's what the New Republic wrote.
00:03:33.640 We chose this cover image based on a well-known 1932 Hitler campaign poster for a precise reason.
00:03:40.060 Anyone transported back to 1932 Germany could very, very easily have explained away Hitler's excesses
00:03:45.220 and been persuaded that his critics were going overboard. Today, we at the New Republic think we can spend
00:03:50.620 this election year in one of two ways. We can spend it debating whether Trump meets the nine or 17
00:03:54.200 points that define fascism or we can spend it saying he's damn close enough and we'd better fight.
00:04:00.040 New Republic says we unreservedly choose the latter course. Better, better fight. Now, what do they mean
00:04:09.380 by fight? When Trump says fight, fight, fight, he's saying defend yourself pretty clearly. He's got blood on
00:04:19.200 his face because someone has attacked him. When the New Republic says we'd better fight,
00:04:26.160 they say clearly what they mean. They say Trump is Hitler and anything goes. Anything to stop him
00:04:34.000 would therefore be justified. And it's not just the New Republic. It's not. How many liberal journalists
00:04:39.840 who are now crying crocodile tears, how could this ever have happened? How many of them have spent the
00:04:45.020 last eight years saying Trump is Hitler, Trump supporters are Nazis, our republic is at stake,
00:04:51.200 this Trump poses an existential threat to democracy? Forget the journalists. They've all said that.
00:04:58.260 President Biden and the Democrats. How many elected Democrats have said Trump poses an existential
00:05:03.740 threat to democracy? Our democracy will not survive if Trump gets reelected. This year, democracy is on
00:05:09.540 the ballot. How many of them have said this? And then they're so surprised when shots ring out at a
00:05:14.800 Trump rally and the former president goes down, comes up blood on his face. Surprised? Forget about
00:05:21.800 what they've said about Trump. 2017, you remember? It seems so long ago now. It wasn't that long ago.
00:05:27.380 A leftist shot up the congressional baseball game, nearly murdered Republican Congressman Steve
00:05:31.920 Scalise. Just a couple of years ago, a leftist traveled across the country to murder Supreme Court
00:05:37.200 Justice Brett Kavanaugh in order to prevent the Dobbs decision from coming out overruling Roe v. Wade.
00:05:43.540 Justice Kavanaugh sitting on the Supreme Court because of the election of Donald Trump.
00:05:48.040 You don't need to imagine this stuff to say nothing of all of the violent rhetoric that we've heard
00:05:53.480 coming from elected Democrats and establishment media. So they're all going to run away from it now.
00:06:01.320 They're going to cry their crocodile tears. Maybe they'll stand by it,
00:06:06.120 what they've said. Many of them will try to deny it. Don't let them say it's unexpected.
00:06:10.800 This is entirely expected. I truly hate to say that many of us have told you so here.
00:06:17.460 For months, what have we said? The only way that they can beat Trump is to kill him.
00:06:21.860 They've tried to prosecute him. That hasn't worked that well. They've tried to out-poll him. That
00:06:25.820 hasn't worked that well. They tried to beat him in a primary. That hasn't worked that well.
00:06:29.360 They've tried this. They've tried that. There's really nothing. They tried to debate him. They
00:06:33.000 tried to do this. They tried to do that. We've said, well, the only thing left they can do is
00:06:36.980 kill him. Presidents have been assassinated before. How many presidents have been assassinated? Not
00:06:42.720 that many, of course. But it happens. Four presidents in American history have been assassinated. Two
00:06:49.620 presidents have been injured in assassination attempts. You can't think of any former presidents
00:06:54.700 who have been assassinated. Another reason that Trump has now made it into the history books
00:07:01.160 where he was already. It doesn't change the campaign so much for those who have been paying
00:07:11.660 attention. When the Democrats have said this is an existential battle for our republic, our
00:07:18.320 very country is on the line, Trump is Hitler. The ones who are paying attention and the ones
00:07:24.020 who mean that, they know what the stakes are. And when conservatives have said, hey, Democrats,
00:07:28.520 how about you dial back the rhetoric a little bit? Multiple prominent Republicans have happily
00:07:33.600 survived assassination attempts in recent years, and they're going to try to kill Trump. This is the
00:07:38.880 only way this story ends, is someone is going to try to kill Trump. We knew what was going on.
00:07:46.400 We knew what the stakes were. So this event doesn't change the stakes so much. It just makes
00:07:52.180 those stakes clearer to anyone who wasn't paying attention. We're looking for more information for
00:07:57.820 those who are just tuning in. Obviously, this is a breaking live broadcast. Could we just play that
00:08:02.140 again? Butler, Pennsylvania, President Trump giving a rally to many, many supporters there. Don't forget
00:08:07.320 that the presidential rallies have a security perimeter. And President Trump, not only because
00:08:12.780 he's a party nominee, but also because he's a former president, has a Secret Service detail,
00:08:16.340 pretty substantial Secret Service detail. So the questions people are asking right now is,
00:08:21.800 what weapon was this? What happened, what security failure happened to allow him to get it into that
00:08:31.700 security perimeter? Was he outside of the security perimeter? Who is this shooter? We now have a
00:08:36.020 report coming out from ABC News that the shooter has been confirmed dead. We don't know that shooter's
00:08:41.820 identity yet, but we have very happy news that President Trump is doing fine. And we have very
00:08:49.620 happy news that no one else is facing a threat because the shooter is dead. Here's the rally.
00:08:56.920 Do we have more? Do we have any more video of the, for those who are just tuning in,
00:09:15.360 let's please go back to the video of Trump actually going down.
00:09:22.100 Take a look at what happened.
00:09:26.920 Hold, hold, when you're ready. On you. Ready. Move. Move. Move. Go.
00:09:54.020 Okay. Hawkeye's here. Hawkeye's here. Move. Move. Move. Go. Get ready.
00:09:59.280 Get ready. Get ready. Get ready. Get ready. Get ready. Are we good. Shooter's down.
00:10:09.020 Shooter's down. Are we good to move? Are we clear? We're clear. We're clear. Let's move. We're clear.
00:10:14.260 Let me get my shoes. Let me get my shoes. Let me get my shoes. I got you. Let me get my shoes. Hold that in your head.
00:10:28.100 So we got to move to the bus. Let me get my shoes.
00:10:32.640 Okay. Watch out.
00:10:38.500 Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait.
00:10:43.680 We got to move. We got to move. We got to move.
00:10:46.780 USA! USA! USA!
00:11:16.780 More news is breaking on how this is all shaking out.
00:11:25.400 President Trump, you can see him.
00:11:28.620 He stands up.
00:11:29.440 He says, no, hold on, hold on, hold on.
00:11:31.860 He mouths something, though it's hard to hear it on the microphone.
00:11:34.760 It looks like fight, fight, fight.
00:11:36.800 Puts his hand up, a fist up in the air, blood coming down the side of his face.
00:11:41.200 Secret Service escorted him away.
00:11:42.760 We now have confirmation from the news channels, if, you know, we hope they're reliable, that the shooter is dead.
00:11:54.000 And very sadly, it looks that at least one attendee is also dead following gunfire.
00:11:59.860 We don't know the identity of that attendee.
00:12:01.860 We don't know if more attendees are dead.
00:12:06.940 It's now being reported that this is gunfire.
00:12:09.660 So there was some confusion in the first moments.
00:12:12.760 Was this, was it a firework?
00:12:14.980 Was it something else that sounds like a gunfire but is not?
00:12:18.660 The reason that anyone was even asking that is because there are typically such strong security perimeters at these events that it would seem unthinkable that someone could get a gun in there.
00:12:28.500 But the reports are now coming out, this was gunfire, at least one attendee dead, and the shooter happily dead before he could do more damage than he already did.
00:12:40.240 Very happily, President Trump seems to be okay.
00:12:43.700 The image of Trump standing there defiant, blood coming down his face, composing himself, fight, fight, fight.
00:12:52.860 You can see him, obviously, with more emotion than usual, but still in command of his speech and his body says, fight, fight, fight.
00:13:02.640 He's taken off the stage.
00:13:03.860 Finally, he acquiesces, Secret Service takes him off stage.
00:13:06.400 You think the spirit of this guy, the courage of this guy, you don't know how many shooters are out there.
00:13:13.940 You don't know if more bullets are going to come flying and he stands up, Secret Service trying to whisk him away, and he says, no.
00:13:21.120 I'm going to talk to the people here.
00:13:23.260 I'm going to reassure them.
00:13:24.340 I'm going to say, fight, fight, fight.
00:13:25.660 I'm going to compose myself so that I don't scare those in attendance other than the blood coming down my face.
00:13:31.980 I'm going to show them I'm okay.
00:13:32.960 I'm going to lead.
00:13:33.480 Now we can walk off stage.
00:13:36.140 It calls to mind one very clear historical incident that was October 14th, 1912, when a president in many ways very similar to Donald Trump and who Donald Trump has said he takes inspiration from, Teddy Roosevelt was shot.
00:13:51.700 There was an assassination attempt.
00:13:54.120 John Schrank tried to murder Teddy Roosevelt.
00:13:57.920 And happily, as it seems to be in this situation, he missed.
00:14:05.640 And his famous words there, friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible.
00:14:12.300 I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot, but it takes more than that to kill a bull moose.
00:14:19.040 History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme, as they say.
00:14:25.300 This would appear to be one of those rhymes.
00:14:29.060 Roosevelt also famously ordered, after he was shot, he said, bring him to me.
00:14:33.260 Bring him to me.
00:14:34.240 I want to see him.
00:14:35.140 Don't hurt him.
00:14:37.420 Roosevelt says, I'm all right.
00:14:38.660 I'm all right.
00:14:39.200 Real tough guy, very important display of leadership at a crucial moment in history.
00:14:45.520 We seem to see almost precisely the same sort of thing playing out right now.
00:14:51.540 At least one attendee dead, getting more updates by the minute.
00:14:57.160 We don't even really know the condition of Trump.
00:15:05.200 All we have is the statement from the campaign, he's fine, he's being treated at a medical facility.
00:15:12.600 If he was shot, but it was a superficial shot, and that's what caused the blood.
00:15:18.080 And if it was a ricochet, or some shrapnel, or who knows what, or if he, as he went down, he was hit, or who knows.
00:15:30.520 If his wound is superficial, and if he survives, and if President Trump's opponents do not succeed at murdering him,
00:15:40.480 as they clearly wish to do, before the election, he could win every state.
00:15:51.140 This event does not change the stakes of the election.
00:15:56.800 A shooter trying to murder President Trump does not change the stakes of the election.
00:16:01.860 It only clarifies it.
00:16:03.220 And it's going to clarify it for a lot of people who have been told Trump is violent, the Trump supporters are violent,
00:16:10.480 they pose an existential threat to our democracy.
00:16:14.660 And they've heard that kind of stuff, not just from fringe people.
00:16:18.560 They've heard that from the establishment media, almost uniformly.
00:16:21.080 They've heard that from Joe Biden.
00:16:22.360 They've heard that from leading elected Democrats.
00:16:25.040 And those people who maybe haven't been paying so much attention, they're going to look at this.
00:16:29.140 And they're not going to be able to deny what they're seeing with their own eyes.
00:16:34.840 Who's violent?
00:16:36.860 Who's threatening our republic?
00:16:38.220 Who's trying to murder a president?
00:16:46.000 Further details coming out now.
00:16:49.760 You're seeing elected officials, obviously many Republicans, wishing the best for President Trump, praying for him.
00:16:56.540 One notable Democrat who has come out and made a statement is Josh Shapiro.
00:17:01.240 He's a Democrat governor of Pennsylvania.
00:17:04.620 Said violence targeted at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable.
00:17:10.780 It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States.
00:17:13.780 So obviously Shapiro, very close to the situation.
00:17:15.880 It happened in his state.
00:17:17.300 Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is ostensibly running for president against Trump and Biden, has come out, asked Americans to pray for Trump.
00:17:25.860 Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.
00:17:33.780 Obviously, the Republican National Convention is set to kick off in about 36 hours.
00:17:43.560 It's set to kick off on Monday, fully.
00:17:45.560 I mean, the Republican, many of the Republicans are already in Milwaukee.
00:17:50.080 The convention is in that sense already underway.
00:17:52.360 But it formally kicks off 36 hours from now, something like that.
00:17:57.400 I'll be there.
00:18:00.800 Many, if not most, major Republicans and conservatives and right-wingers, we're talking activists, journalists, politicians, they're going to be there too.
00:18:13.820 The presidential nominee appears almost to have been murdered.
00:18:17.280 We're getting more confirmation, more reports in, this time from Sky News, that at least one rally attendee is dead, sadly.
00:18:27.040 We don't know really anything more about who that attendee is.
00:18:32.260 We don't even really know where the shot came from.
00:18:36.020 Again, the Secret Service is saying this is an active investigation.
00:18:39.340 The reports are that the gunman is dead.
00:18:40.980 Was there more than one gunman?
00:18:43.020 Where did the shots come from?
00:18:44.260 You can see Trump's face is bloodied on the right side.
00:18:50.280 Doesn't necessarily mean the shots came from that side.
00:18:52.640 Doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't more people out there.
00:18:58.060 Was this shooter acting alone?
00:19:00.360 Was the shooter conspiring alone?
00:19:03.220 How did the shooter get in to the rally?
00:19:09.100 We're waiting for more updates.
00:19:10.780 President Barack Obama has just come out, made a statement.
00:19:17.500 There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy.
00:19:21.100 Although we don't yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn't seriously hurt.
00:19:26.580 And use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.
00:19:29.920 Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.
00:19:33.740 Fine.
00:19:35.080 It's fine.
00:19:35.740 I don't like the downplaying of this from Barack Obama.
00:19:41.560 I don't think that's appropriate at all.
00:19:43.620 We should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn't seriously hurt.
00:19:46.320 Excuse me.
00:19:47.540 Excuse me, Mr. Obama.
00:19:49.500 I'm glad that you're now condemning political violence.
00:19:53.740 That's good.
00:19:54.380 After your party has been calling Trump Hitler for the past eight years.
00:19:57.860 After your party has been downplaying the risk of violence from their own side.
00:20:05.740 And overhyping the risk, nearly nonexistent, of political violence from the right.
00:20:12.140 I'm glad that you're in general now condemning political violence.
00:20:16.600 We should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn't seriously injured.
00:20:19.900 I think blood was pouring down the side of his face at a political rally.
00:20:22.560 I think he went down and Secret Service took out automatic weapons to make sure that more shots wouldn't be fired.
00:20:28.720 I think it's pretty serious.
00:20:30.200 I think it's pretty serious.
00:20:33.500 And so that was fast.
00:20:35.000 That was a record, actually, for Democrats downplaying political violence against a conservative.
00:20:40.600 The leftist attempted assassination and nearly successful assassination of Steve Scalise, Republican congressman.
00:20:47.040 That's been pretty successfully memory hold.
00:20:48.960 You talk to conservatives and Republicans.
00:20:50.940 They might remember it.
00:20:52.220 You talk to Democrats.
00:20:52.980 They probably don't even remember that.
00:20:55.720 Oh, I forgot the attack on Senator Rand Paul.
00:21:00.500 And then a neighbor, left-wing neighbor, break Senator Paul's ribs.
00:21:06.420 Then, of course, we recall the assassination attempt just a couple years ago against Brett Kavanaugh.
00:21:12.560 This after Chuck Schumer stood outside of a supposedly co-equal branch of government, the Supreme Court, and said,
00:21:19.720 we're coming for you.
00:21:20.460 We're coming for you.
00:21:21.140 You're going to feel the whirlwind.
00:21:22.220 Pretty inappropriate.
00:21:26.720 A rhetorical attack on the separation of powers and on the Supreme Court.
00:21:32.800 And quite violent, especially when you consider that Supreme Court justices are appointed for life.
00:21:38.240 So that, you know, to say you're going to feel the whirlwind, we're going to whip up all these people, there was just a new report that the left is pouring $10 million or more into an effort to demonize the Supreme Court.
00:21:51.040 Now, it's one thing to spend money to demonize an elected politician.
00:21:55.620 Then you say, all right, now we're going to persuade people and you're going to kick them out of the ballot box.
00:21:59.320 It doesn't make any sense for the Supreme Court.
00:22:01.060 The Supreme Court is not supposed to be party to electoral politics.
00:22:05.120 So the only thing that that could do is to delegitimize the court and to increase threats of physical violence against the Supreme Court, the conservatives specifically on the Supreme Court.
00:22:15.420 That has largely been memory hold, too.
00:22:20.000 And now, that was quick.
00:22:21.120 Wow.
00:22:21.820 6.44 p.m. Central Time.
00:22:24.080 Barack Obama comes out.
00:22:25.640 There's no place for political violence in our democracy.
00:22:28.040 We should all be relieved the former President Trump wasn't seriously hurt.
00:22:30.740 Yeah, maybe not by your standards, Barack Obama.
00:22:35.360 I guess it'd be more serious if whoever this shooter was had succeeded at murdering him.
00:22:39.440 That would be more serious.
00:22:40.700 I think it's pretty serious that the former president was injured, seems shot.
00:22:51.480 I think that's pretty serious.
00:22:52.680 I think any time a former president and party nominee is told to drop down by Secret Service and comes up with blood on his face, I think it's pretty serious.
00:23:02.940 I'm glad, though, that he and Michelle are wishing him a quick recovery.
00:23:06.140 Is Joe Biden going to make a statement?
00:23:07.540 Can Joe Biden make a statement?
00:23:09.000 Would he want to even if he could?
00:23:10.280 Not sure.
00:23:11.060 Haven't seen one yet.
00:23:12.420 We're getting reports in now.
00:23:13.780 There was a doctor in the crowd who attempted to save the rally attendee who was shot.
00:23:18.680 That's exactly where I heard him come from.
00:23:22.900 What did you see, sir?
00:23:24.780 I heard the shots.
00:23:26.940 I thought it was firecrackers to begin with.
00:23:30.700 Somebody over there was screaming, he's been shot, he's been shot.
00:23:33.920 So I made my way over.
00:23:35.980 I said, I'm an emergency department physician.
00:23:38.960 Let me help you.
00:23:40.300 The guy had spun around, was jammed between the benches.
00:23:43.580 He had a headshot here.
00:23:44.820 There was lots of blood.
00:23:45.800 And he had brain matter there.
00:23:49.200 And so I got him.
00:23:52.040 Here's a helicopter coming in to get him.
00:23:55.240 So I got people there really helpful.
00:23:58.720 I got him up on the bench.
00:23:58.920 Was there only one person shot that you saw?
00:24:00.340 Yeah, I did CPR, big chest compressions, as well as a brief one.
00:24:05.280 So you heard that question at the end, were other people shot as well?
00:24:08.340 This would seem to be a confirmation.
00:24:10.380 We're talking about gunshots.
00:24:11.580 Very sad, we say a prayer for the attendee, at least one attendee who's died.
00:24:22.860 Requiem maternum dona eis domine et lux perpetua locea et a requiescat in pace, nomine patris et filiates spiritus sancti.
00:24:29.540 We hope that he's the only one who has been killed.
00:24:32.640 He was not the target.
00:24:33.420 That guy, God rest his soul, he was not the target.
00:24:41.380 Donald Trump was the target.
00:24:43.840 And he ended up with blood on the side of his face.
00:24:46.080 Are we talking about inches away from a former president, the current leading presidential candidate in 2024, being murdered two days, less than two days before the Republican National Convention?
00:25:05.880 How does anyone attend a Trump rally now?
00:25:11.040 I bet many people will.
00:25:13.420 I would.
00:25:15.600 But you'd have to think twice.
00:25:16.900 You're taking your life in your hands.
00:25:19.580 That's part of the message here.
00:25:20.880 That's part of the, well, I guess you'd call it terrorism.
00:25:25.860 Terrorism is when you target civilians for political ends.
00:25:29.960 At least one civilian was killed.
00:25:31.240 It's to send a message.
00:25:34.660 If you support Trump, that could be you too.
00:25:37.240 You hear it from the doctor.
00:25:38.500 The man was shot.
00:25:39.100 He was trying to administer life-saving first aid.
00:25:42.320 There was brain matter on the ground.
00:25:45.760 Trump stands up, arm in the air, blood on his face, fight, fight, fight.
00:25:54.040 And what's he thinking when he says fight, fight, fight?
00:25:56.240 He is thinking, not that I've spoken to him, but I don't think it takes much imagination.
00:26:00.580 He is thinking, either I've been injured and could die, or I've been injured and I might
00:26:07.880 soon be injured more.
00:26:09.780 Shots firing out.
00:26:10.740 No one knows who it is.
00:26:11.620 No one knows where it's coming from.
00:26:12.680 Is there another shooter?
00:26:13.660 Is the shooter still alive?
00:26:14.620 Is he going to get him?
00:26:15.880 This man is thinking, these might be my last words.
00:26:19.940 These last words are not to whimper or to cry or to yell or to scream.
00:26:24.840 It's to take charge, to say fight, fight, fight.
00:26:36.200 If one were given to sentimentality, it would be very difficult not to feel goosebumps at
00:26:45.580 that demonstration of courage, personal courage and political courage.
00:26:49.340 President Trump, I'm sorry, Elon Musk has just come out on his own platform on X and endorsed
00:26:57.780 Trump.
00:26:59.040 I suspect you're going to see more of this in the coming days.
00:27:01.300 He says, I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.
00:27:07.580 Another presidential parallel here is to Ronald Reagan.
00:27:11.440 Ronald Reagan was very nearly assassinated.
00:27:15.080 He was a sitting president at the time.
00:27:19.400 And obviously, President Trump has taken a lot of inspiration from Reagan.
00:27:25.440 Reagan was taken to the hospital.
00:27:27.000 This was in Washington.
00:27:28.780 He was reportedly quite angry when the surgeons cut off his suit.
00:27:35.480 He said, this is a new suit.
00:27:36.480 Don't cut it off.
00:27:37.100 Of course, if you're taken in and you've been shot, especially if you're the sitting president
00:27:40.100 of the United States, they don't unbutton your suit.
00:27:42.520 They just cut it off.
00:27:43.200 And then he turned, he was still joking.
00:27:46.360 He turned to the doctor, the surgeon, Dr. Giordano, I believe, and said, I hope you're
00:27:50.960 a Republican.
00:27:52.600 And the doctor, who was not a Republican, who was a Democrat, he said to Reagan, Mr. President,
00:27:59.220 today we're all Republicans.
00:28:01.500 I think you're going to see a lot of that.
00:28:02.740 The rabid partisan Democrats, the leftists who, I'm sorry to say, wanted this to happen,
00:28:16.720 the people who put the New Republic cover together just six days ago, calling Trump Hitler.
00:28:21.820 I don't, I don't, I don't know how else to interpret a cover that says American fascism,
00:28:29.840 what it would look like.
00:28:30.580 Trump is Hitler.
00:28:32.000 We, we choose to fight.
00:28:33.500 We're not going to just stand by and pretend this is an ordinary election.
00:28:35.940 We choose to, we choose to call him Hitler and a fascist.
00:28:38.720 I don't, I don't know how else to interpret that other than we want to murder Trump.
00:28:42.800 I don't know how any reasonable person could interpret, either it means that the New Republic
00:28:48.400 would not have wanted to murder Hitler.
00:28:52.400 Oh, Hitler, he is a bad egg, but we're just, we're going to take it easy with him.
00:28:56.340 Hitler, you know, the, the symbol of absolute evil in the modern world.
00:29:02.540 Either that's what the New Republic said.
00:29:03.880 I don't think that's what the New Republic's saying.
00:29:05.060 I think they're saying we want to murder Trump.
00:29:07.140 I think it's pretty clear.
00:29:07.860 However, many commentators at the time were rightly observing this is going to get people killed.
00:29:16.340 Friend of mine, David Marcus, a reporter, a writer rather, columnist and journalist.
00:29:21.240 I, I pointed out, I saw that cover.
00:29:23.080 I said, you know, the left, it's, there's, they're so dishonest.
00:29:26.160 They're, they're so reckless.
00:29:27.540 They're so goofy.
00:29:28.560 You know, I said, it's such a goofy cover to pretend that Donald Trump is a fascist or something.
00:29:32.200 It's absurd.
00:29:33.100 And he, he pointed out, why is he said, it's not goofy.
00:29:37.860 It's going to get people killed.
00:29:39.220 I didn't think of the two as being mutually opposed, but he made a good point.
00:29:42.860 And I think a lot of, I think most reasonable people were thinking that that could get people killed.
00:29:46.200 It has, it has six days later.
00:29:50.720 And I, I don't mean to single out the New Republic.
00:29:54.900 Anyone, anyone who said Trump is Hitler.
00:29:59.560 Trump poses an existential threat to our democracy.
00:30:03.980 There, we, we must stop Trump by any means necessary.
00:30:06.760 Anyone who said that, that's pretty much every journalist.
00:30:10.560 It's pretty much every elite left-wing activist.
00:30:16.080 And that's President Biden.
00:30:18.000 President Biden says Trump poses an existential threat.
00:30:21.720 Democracy is on the ballot.
00:30:23.040 Our democracy is at stake.
00:30:25.040 Basically any permutation of it.
00:30:28.240 He's been saying that for years now.
00:30:29.920 What did they expect would happen?
00:30:33.980 What did they, there's a lot of talk about President Trump being reckless with his rhetoric.
00:30:38.560 Because, you know, Donald Trump says that he has big crowds at his rallies.
00:30:43.000 He does, by the way.
00:30:44.740 Trump is reckless with his rhetoric.
00:30:46.760 Because Trump says he wants to deport illegal aliens.
00:30:48.920 And he wants to build a wall.
00:30:49.720 And he wants to make Mexico pay for it.
00:30:50.920 Oh, how reckless.
00:30:51.480 Democrats say that Trump poses an existential threat to the democracy.
00:30:59.300 Democracy's on the ballot.
00:31:02.820 I don't think build a wall, build a wall, make Mexico pay for it.
00:31:05.940 I don't think that gets anyone killed.
00:31:08.940 This man is Hitler.
00:31:10.080 This man is going to destroy our country and destroy our whole democracy.
00:31:13.520 And by the way, did I tell you he's Hitler?
00:31:15.440 That rhetoric does get people killed.
00:31:17.260 And of course, there's still no word from the White House.
00:31:24.040 Of course.
00:31:25.080 Of course.
00:31:26.420 Is Joe Biden even awake?
00:31:30.580 That's not a cheap shot.
00:31:32.300 The White House has said the man works between, what, the hours of 10 and 4?
00:31:38.580 He's reliably working for six hours a day between the hours of 2.
00:31:43.960 Well, it's after 4.
00:31:45.200 Eastern time, Eastern time.
00:31:47.800 Does he even know?
00:31:50.760 There was a question that came in after Biden's disastrous debate defeat to President Trump,
00:31:57.840 when it became clear Democrats were going to have to try something new if they wanted to beat Trump in this race.
00:32:02.680 There was the question, what happens if the call comes in at 2 in the morning?
00:32:06.180 What happens if there's some attack on America?
00:32:07.860 There was an attack on America.
00:32:10.000 We all just saw it.
00:32:11.760 There was a major attack on America.
00:32:13.620 Someone just tried to murder the former president and the current leading presidential nominee.
00:32:21.880 You want to talk about an existential threat to our democracy, democracy being on the ballot?
00:32:28.140 Most people, according to every poll, most people want Trump to be the next president.
00:32:37.840 Some people don't want that to happen.
00:32:42.480 So they're going to take away the ability of the people to vote for Donald Trump by taking away Donald Trump's life.
00:32:49.580 And you want to call Donald Trump an existential threat to the republic.
00:32:55.540 Now, what happened?
00:32:56.360 What does this mean for the election?
00:32:57.640 We don't know.
00:32:58.080 I mean, this is happening in real time.
00:32:59.200 Maybe when Joe Biden wakes up, he can make a statement.
00:33:01.100 We see where the things stand.
00:33:02.020 When Reagan was shot, happily, the assassination didn't work, though it did permanently disable the White House press secretary.
00:33:15.140 And soft on crime activists successfully lobbied to get Reagan's attempted assassin released from prison.
00:33:24.620 Reagan won 49 out of 50 states.
00:33:26.860 When Reagan went up for re-election, he won 49 out of 50 states.
00:33:34.040 The only state he didn't win was Mondale's home state of Minnesota.
00:33:37.820 And I spoke to one of the men who ran Reagan's campaign in 84, and he said he thinks Reagan won that, too, but they weren't going to push for all 50.
00:33:47.240 The White House has finally released a statement.
00:33:49.300 That's nice.
00:33:50.120 Statement from Joe Biden.
00:33:51.100 I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania.
00:33:53.800 I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well.
00:33:55.360 I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally as we await further information.
00:33:59.440 Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety.
00:34:02.560 There's no place for this kind of violence in America.
00:34:04.860 We must unite as one nation and condemn it.
00:34:06.720 Okay, condemn it.
00:34:08.420 Then condemn everyone who's calling Trump Hitler and condemn everyone who says that Trump is an existential threat to the country.
00:34:14.400 But then you'd have to condemn yourself, wouldn't you, Mr. President?
00:34:16.840 Not that he wrote this.
00:34:17.700 Obviously not.
00:34:19.860 Obviously not.
00:34:22.380 It's nice.
00:34:23.280 How many words is that statement?
00:34:24.560 Go back to the statement.
00:34:25.560 How many words is that?
00:34:27.500 One, two, three, four.
00:34:28.600 It's three brief paragraphs.
00:34:29.620 I can't even call it three brief paragraphs.
00:34:31.520 First paragraph is one sentence.
00:34:33.520 Second paragraph is two sentences.
00:34:36.180 Third paragraph is three sentences.
00:34:37.900 I'm glad.
00:34:38.260 That's good.
00:34:39.260 That's good that the President of the United States was able to muster six sentences.
00:34:42.520 Not that he didn't.
00:34:43.200 That the President's staffers were able to muster six sentences, what, two hours later?
00:34:50.140 After his rival and predecessor appears to have been shot, at the very least, was injured at a rally where shots were fired.
00:35:00.520 Third, that's good.
00:35:02.320 For those who were just tuning in, President Trump was speaking in Butler, Pennsylvania.
00:35:07.760 Shots rang out.
00:35:09.480 Trump went down.
00:35:10.900 Secret Service went down.
00:35:12.520 Let's just play the clip for anyone who's just tuning in now.
00:35:20.200 Take a look at what happened.
00:35:21.300 Take a look at what happened.
00:35:51.300 Move.
00:35:51.860 Go.
00:35:53.860 Hawkeye's here.
00:35:54.800 Hawkeye's here.
00:35:55.460 Move and stare.
00:35:56.520 Get ready.
00:35:57.300 Get ready.
00:35:58.320 Get ready.
00:35:58.800 Get ready.
00:36:02.360 Are we good?
00:36:06.380 Shooter's down.
00:36:07.240 Shooter's down.
00:36:08.140 Are we good to move?
00:36:08.860 Are we good to move?
00:36:09.800 Are we clear?
00:36:10.440 We're clear.
00:36:11.080 Let's move.
00:36:11.840 We're clear.
00:36:13.580 I hope you make the sense.
00:36:15.660 Oh, it's moving.
00:36:17.980 Come on.
00:36:18.920 Come on.
00:36:20.740 Let me get my shoes.
00:36:21.900 Let me get my shoes.
00:36:23.060 I got you, sir.
00:36:23.620 I got you, sir.
00:36:24.180 Let me get my shoes.
00:36:25.340 Hold on.
00:36:25.780 Your head is bloody.
00:36:27.020 Sir, we got to move to the bus.
00:36:28.240 Move to the bus.
00:36:29.740 Let me get my shoes.
00:36:30.860 Okay.
00:36:31.440 Watch out.
00:36:31.840 Watch out.
00:36:32.000 Watch out.
00:36:33.220 Watch out.
00:36:34.140 Watch out.
00:36:34.160 Watch out.
00:36:47.960 USA, USA, USA, USA!
00:37:17.960 More information is emerging now. So we mentioned the suspected shooter is dead. An audience member is dead. We heard from a doctor, a medical professional, who attempted to revive the rally-goer unsuccessfully, said the rally-goer had been shot in the head and brain matter was available, or was visible, rather.
00:37:42.640 According to reports that are coming out now, another person from the rally is in critical condition. That's according to a Washington Post reporter, citing the Butler County District Attorney.
00:37:57.320 So what people are fearing now is that you're going to hear more of a trickle. Okay, initially it was shots fired. We don't know if anyone was injured. Then shots fired. We don't know where the shooter is. Then it was shots fired. You know, President Trump is bloodied, but appears to be okay.
00:38:17.400 Okay. We have an eyewitness who's coming to us on Zoom right now. This is Mike Wright. Mike, do I have you?
00:38:26.620 Yeah, sure do.
00:38:27.340 What'd you see?
00:38:27.820 Well, so we got to the Trump rally. We had VIP sections. We were probably 20 to 30 yards from the stage.
00:38:38.880 The president had been talking probably for about five minutes, and we heard three cracks suppressed. So almost like, you know, the snaps you throw on the ground.
00:38:48.140 So it was, and then, you know, chaos kind of ensued for a little bit. Earlier in the day, I'd seen a couple sharpshooters on the roof of a building. I'd actually shown my son. I said, hey, look, they're here to protect President Trump when he comes on stage.
00:39:08.360 And then after those three quick cracks, probably four seconds later, I saw those sharpshooters firing back toward a building that's adjacent from the fairgrounds.
00:39:23.100 All at the same time, three shots, they start shooting back. Secret Service is on stage, you know, has Trump to the ground.
00:39:32.280 And then, you know, different, I don't know what, Elio came up on stage. Everyone was kind of panicking.
00:39:40.840 After that, there was some commotion from some bleachers to my left, probably about 30 yards to my left.
00:39:46.880 And so from all my friends and family that were at the event, there was, in some pictures I saw, what I kind of summarized happened was,
00:39:58.220 there was the shooter was on the roof of a building called AGR, probably three to 500 yards away from the stage.
00:40:07.260 It was not in the fairground area.
00:40:08.960 They were shooting through the bleachers towards the president.
00:40:14.740 And that would make sense because there was, I saw them actually carry two bodies out of the bleachers.
00:40:22.020 My friend was in the bleachers.
00:40:23.460 The one, he said the one lady was definitely deceased.
00:40:26.460 The other person wasn't sure because there was two lifelight helicopters there.
00:40:30.920 The police sharpshooters on the roof of the building were shooting back toward where the shooter was.
00:40:41.280 So it all makes sense.
00:40:42.720 It's almost like a big checkmark, right?
00:40:44.160 So like the, if Trump was here, I'm sorry, if the sharpshooters were here, the building where the shooter was at was here and the president was here.
00:40:54.660 So in the stand, the bleachers were in the middle.
00:40:57.040 So, you know, it seems like it would make sense that when he was shooting through the bleachers toward the president, he hit a few people.
00:41:04.100 And then the police sharpshooters were shooting back at the building.
00:41:07.680 I did see a picture of a deceased person on the rooftop of a building too, which I would assume was a shooter.
00:41:13.380 So this would make a lot of sense.
00:41:14.840 The big question, even I saw a lot of the reports hesitated to say it was even gunfire because it didn't make any sense that there would be gunfire at a rally of any presidential election.
00:41:27.040 But certainly of a former president, the U.S. Secret Service, as you mentioned, there are sharpshooters on the building.
00:41:33.480 They lock these areas down quite well.
00:41:36.400 So it didn't make sense.
00:41:38.740 It would make sense, however, if the shooter was outside the perimeter as you appear to have seen.
00:41:45.480 So you heard suppressed fire.
00:41:47.760 Presumably, this was a pretty serious shooter.
00:41:55.040 This wouldn't have just been some wacko with a pistol or something.
00:41:59.780 If he's firing from that far away, he's able to do that kind of damage.
00:42:03.920 There's blood on the president's face.
00:42:05.420 We still don't know all of the circumstances around it.
00:42:07.600 Obviously, the photo that has now, it's an overused word, but it certainly applies here, has become iconic, is of the top of President Trump's ear, quite bloodied, and then some blood on the side of his face.
00:42:24.120 It's unclear if the president was shot or if it was shrapnel or if we just have no idea really yet.
00:42:31.760 But in any case, if a shooter is able to fire through the bleachers from that kind of a distance and bloody up a president, this was not just a random haphazard act of violence.
00:42:47.420 This would seem to have been something that was well-coordinated.
00:42:51.140 I mean, it would have had to have been for him to get up on that building.
00:42:54.700 And kind of thinking about it now, if the shooter was 300 to 500 yards away from me, there's a chance that I didn't hear the—I just heard the crack of the bullet, not the actual sound of the rifle going off.
00:43:07.900 But the first three shots, I definitely heard the crack of the bullets kind of going past.
00:43:15.100 And because the bullets would have probably went, I don't know, maybe 10 yards in front of me with the trajectory.
00:43:21.200 But the sharpshooters for sure was suppressed.
00:43:25.180 But yeah, for him to get up on that building, on that rooftop, yeah, it would have had to have been planned.
00:43:33.160 And so as far as the president's face, that's all right, real quick.
00:43:37.480 So as far as like the president's face, I originally thought, you know, when they stood him up after a couple minutes, he gave a thumbs up and he was not happy.
00:43:51.780 I told my wife, I said, they tackled him so quick, he could have hit his head off the ground, off the podium.
00:43:58.440 That was my first reaction as well, and it might well have been the case.
00:44:05.300 I mean, I suppose the shooter could have hit him, and if so, you know, happily it would have just hit him off to the side.
00:44:13.880 He does appear pretty bloodied up in any case.
00:44:17.180 So, you know, if you're a U.S. Secret Service, you know, you're not going to be gentle in trying to protect the president as a man is firing multiple rounds to murder him.
00:44:26.240 And we just don't know.
00:44:28.580 I mean, the reports are just totally unclear right now as to what exactly happened.
00:44:32.720 What was the reaction in the crowd?
00:44:38.180 You know, for the first five to ten seconds, it's like surreal, right?
00:44:44.780 The first three shots, you know, is it the sound system?
00:44:48.420 Is it fireworks?
00:44:49.620 And then when I saw the sharpshooters shooting back, we got the kids and everyone down to the ground.
00:44:58.360 It probably took the crowd, I would say, 15, 20 seconds to really grasp, like, what happened.
00:45:08.220 You know, the Secret Service is down.
00:45:09.960 There's people with rifles on stage.
00:45:12.380 There's commotion in the stands with people screaming.
00:45:14.940 I mean, you knew pretty quick what was going on.
00:45:21.300 Maybe not the details.
00:45:22.560 We had initially thought that the shooter was in the stands.
00:45:25.440 Right.
00:45:25.720 But that's not the case.
00:45:27.420 Did people then just flee the rally or did they sort of drop, you know, lock in place or?
00:45:32.820 We locked in place probably for, what, four or five minutes?
00:45:36.640 And then they evacuated.
00:45:38.520 They had everyone get out.
00:45:40.020 It was very orderly.
00:45:41.560 There wasn't any, you know, a lot of people were upset, but it wasn't, like, people stampeding over each other.
00:45:48.960 In fact, there was a complete stranger in front of me.
00:45:51.320 He said, hey, put your two little kids between you and I so we can get out of here just in case something else happened.
00:45:55.520 Everything was very civil.
00:45:56.920 They had, like, a crowd barricade around the VIP section.
00:46:00.460 And within that three or four minutes, they removed the barricade.
00:46:03.600 They evacuated pretty quick.
00:46:04.880 Well, I'm glad to hear that you're safe.
00:46:10.580 I'm glad to hear that people around you are safe.
00:46:13.640 We will pray for the person, well, for the deceased and for the person who's critically injured, according to reports from the Washington Post.
00:46:21.880 And we all pray for President Trump.
00:46:23.800 His campaign says he's okay.
00:46:26.040 Well, my wife, my wife actually has, she does the anesthesia.
00:46:31.520 She's friends with the anesthesiologist at the hospital they took him to.
00:46:34.760 And he was thumbs-upping everyone when they took him into the hospital.
00:46:38.140 So, I assume he's doing fine.
00:46:41.960 There's a line from Teddy Roosevelt when they, there was an assassination attempt on him in 1912.
00:46:47.040 He said, you may not know this, but I've been shot, but it takes more than that to kill a bull moose.
00:46:53.360 It takes more than whatever happened to Trump to kill, to kill a bull moose.
00:46:56.400 Mike, thank you so much for-
00:46:58.400 Hey, thank you.
00:46:59.240 Thank you.
00:47:00.420 President Biden is now making a statement.
00:47:04.160 We turn to him.
00:47:08.500 We don't have him.
00:47:09.520 We don't have him.
00:47:10.180 All right.
00:47:10.960 He is making a statement.
00:47:11.920 His staffers presumably released six brief sentences as they were rousing the president.
00:47:18.120 Now, what, two hours later?
00:47:19.720 But President Biden appears to be making a live statement.
00:47:23.500 We will get that to you as quickly as possible.
00:47:26.840 I'm seeing a post on X from Newsweek.
00:47:31.080 Newsweek.
00:47:32.280 MAGA responds with outrage after Donald Trump injured at Pennsylvania rally.
00:47:39.680 Jim Treacher reposted that.
00:47:42.140 So, I suppose it could be, I hope that it would be some doctored image, some kind of meme.
00:47:48.860 This is the Republicans pounce par excellence.
00:47:53.180 You know the phenomenon of Republicans pounce.
00:47:56.120 Democrats do something horrible.
00:47:58.720 Republicans observe that, notice it, criticize it.
00:48:03.400 And then the headlines is Republicans pounce.
00:48:06.200 They don't talk about the Democrats doing something horrible.
00:48:08.860 This would be, I think, the most extreme example of that phenomenon ever.
00:48:14.720 MAGA responds with outrage after Donald Trump injured at Pennsylvania rally.
00:48:19.960 That's the story?
00:48:21.520 That's the story.
00:48:22.340 That's the headline.
00:48:23.060 Did you know MAGA responded with outrage?
00:48:25.720 Oh, hey, hey, Johnny.
00:48:27.080 Anything happen in the news yesterday?
00:48:29.980 Oh, yes.
00:48:30.640 Yeah, actually, Michael, something did.
00:48:32.800 MAGA responded with outrage.
00:48:34.940 Oh, what did they respond with outrage at?
00:48:37.140 Oh, it doesn't matter.
00:48:38.560 It doesn't matter.
00:48:39.500 It's just, you know.
00:48:41.240 It was just outrage.
00:48:42.320 You know, yes, someone tried to murder Trump.
00:48:44.280 And there were shots fired.
00:48:45.240 And someone was killed at a Trump rally by the shooter.
00:48:48.260 But they responded with outrage.
00:48:52.220 So we're waiting now on the president speaking.
00:48:56.380 Do we have it?
00:48:57.280 Do we have the president?
00:48:58.460 We have it.
00:48:59.180 Here he is.
00:48:59.840 I've been thoroughly briefed by all the agencies in the federal government as to the situation, based on what we know now.
00:49:07.100 I have tried to get a hold of Donald.
00:49:09.860 He's with his doctors.
00:49:12.440 Apparently, he's doing well.
00:49:14.100 I plan on talking to him shortly, I hope, when I get back to the telephone.
00:49:20.460 Look, there's no place in America for this kind of violence.
00:49:23.960 It's sick.
00:49:25.100 It's sick.
00:49:26.420 It's one of the reasons why we have to unite this country.
00:49:28.800 We cannot allow for this to be happening.
00:49:31.120 We cannot be like this.
00:49:32.880 We cannot condone this.
00:49:34.840 And so I want to thank the Secret Service and all the agencies, including the state agencies,
00:49:39.080 that have been engaged in making sure that the people who – and we have more detail to come relative to other people maybe injured in the audience.
00:49:48.400 I don't have all that detail.
00:49:49.900 We'll make that available to you.
00:49:51.720 I may be able to come back a little later tonight, but we'll put out a statement if we don't – if I'm not able to – if it's not convenient for you all.
00:49:59.300 But the bottom line is that the Trump rally was a rally that he should have been able to be conducted peacefully without any problem.
00:50:08.120 But the idea, the idea that there's political violence or violence in America like this is just unheard of.
00:50:14.860 It's just not appropriate.
00:50:16.360 And everybody, everybody must condemn it.
00:50:19.000 Everybody.
00:50:19.980 I'll keep you informed.
00:50:21.060 And if I am able to speak to Donald, I'll let you know that as well.
00:50:25.760 But so far, it appears he's doing well, number one.
00:50:30.680 Number two, that they're thoroughly investigating what happened to anyone else in the audience.
00:50:35.840 I have – we have some reports but not final reports.
00:50:39.860 And every agency in the federal government – and I'm going back to my phone to speak with the federal agencies that are being put together again to give me an updated briefing.
00:50:49.900 If anything happened, they learned more in the last couple hours.
00:50:52.720 So thank you very much, and I hope I get to speak to him tonight, and I'll get back to you if I do.
00:50:58.560 Okay?
00:50:58.800 Mr. President, do you think it was an assassination attempt?
00:51:03.000 I don't –
00:51:03.720 Where's his answer?
00:51:06.340 I want his answer.
00:51:07.780 Was this an assassination attempt?
00:51:11.340 He doesn't answer.
00:51:13.220 I see his mouth moving, but I don't see any – I don't see any answers.
00:51:16.760 If he gave an answer, my apologies.
00:51:18.900 We'll try to get it.
00:51:20.420 Unheard of.
00:51:21.720 It's unheard of that there would be political violence.
00:51:23.680 Is there?
00:51:24.420 A leftist tried to murder Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh two years ago.
00:51:28.520 It's unheard of.
00:51:29.760 How many years ago was it that another leftist tried to murder Steve Scalise?
00:51:34.400 That was about six, seven years ago.
00:51:36.120 How long ago was it when a leftist tried to – successfully roughed up, and who knows, maybe tried to kill Senator Paul?
00:51:46.820 Not that long.
00:51:47.420 It's not – I don't think it's unheard of at all.
00:51:48.880 I think it's increasingly frequent, and I think the violence is coming almost exclusively from the left.
00:51:55.340 And do you know why that is?
00:51:57.240 Because we haven't united this country.
00:51:59.500 Whose responsibility is it to unite this country?
00:52:01.840 That's what he says.
00:52:02.440 That's what Biden says.
00:52:03.140 We – listen, this is ridiculous.
00:52:04.980 We have to unite this country.
00:52:06.000 And whose job is that, Mr. President?
00:52:08.180 Whose job is that?
00:52:09.960 That's your job to unite the country.
00:52:11.940 So how have you done?
00:52:13.040 What have you done to unite the country?
00:52:15.500 Were you uniting the country when you launched your presidential campaign on a lie that Donald Trump called Nazis fine people in Charlottesville?
00:52:22.740 A lie that you continue to peddle even though it has been debunked again and again by left-wing sources just a couple of weeks ago by Snopes.
00:52:30.480 Was that you uniting the country?
00:52:32.240 You called Trump a Nazi.
00:52:34.400 By association, you said he at least condones and encourages Nazis.
00:52:39.540 Complete lie.
00:52:40.520 That was you uniting people?
00:52:41.740 When you said Donald Trump poses a threat to our very democracy, that our democracy is at stake and on the ballot?
00:52:49.080 That was you uniting the country?
00:52:52.720 Where's the uniting?
00:52:55.380 Was it uniting the country when following your lead, your flax in the political apparatus and in the establishment media, but I repeat myself, called Trump Hitler 24-7?
00:53:09.060 Is that uniting the country?
00:53:10.820 Golly.
00:53:12.660 There appears to have been an assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a rally.
00:53:17.000 One rally goer at least was murdered.
00:53:20.100 Another one is in critical condition as of now.
00:53:22.740 He goes, why?
00:53:29.420 Well, if democracy is on the ballot, if Donald Trump is Hitler, if Donald Trump surrounds himself with the very fine people, the Nazis, all these lies that you've told, it makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
00:53:43.620 You've got to unite this country.
00:53:48.300 Right, you're the president.
00:53:49.860 You haven't united the country.
00:53:51.560 You've done everything you can to divide it.
00:53:53.520 And now you issue a brief statement.
00:53:56.760 Whoopsie-daisy.
00:53:58.500 Yikes.
00:53:59.100 This is bad, huh?
00:54:00.780 Why won't Trump take my call?
00:54:02.480 I guess because he's talking to the doctors because he's bleeding from the right side of his face because someone shot up his rally.
00:54:07.140 There's an eyewitness who is telling BBC that he informed the police and Secret Service about a man on a roof with a rifle.
00:54:20.020 Here's the clip.
00:54:20.740 You weren't inside the event, but you were just outside.
00:54:25.260 Tell us what you saw and what.
00:54:27.260 So we had a party here all day.
00:54:29.820 You can see behind us the Brinkles Farming Greenhouse here.
00:54:33.220 We had a party.
00:54:34.860 And we all decided, hey, you know, when we hear Trump up there, we're going to walk up through the field, stand by the trees up there under the shade, and listen to the rally.
00:54:45.020 We couldn't see him, but we could hear him.
00:54:47.260 So we walked up, and probably five to seven minutes of Trump speaking, I'm estimating here, I have no idea, you know.
00:54:56.640 But we noticed a guy crawling, you know, bear crawling up the roof of the building beside us, 50 feet away from us.
00:55:08.860 So we're standing there, and, you know, we're pointing at the guy crawling up the roof.
00:55:13.480 And he had a gun, right?
00:55:14.420 He had a rifle.
00:55:15.140 We could clearly see him with a rifle.
00:55:17.500 Absolutely.
00:55:18.840 We're pointing at him.
00:55:20.440 The police are down there running around on the ground.
00:55:23.180 We're like, hey, man, there's a guy on the roof with a rifle.
00:55:26.920 And the police are like, huh, what?
00:55:28.360 You know, like they didn't know what was going on.
00:55:30.820 You know, we're like, hey, right here on the roof.
00:55:32.440 We can see him from right here.
00:55:33.740 We see him.
00:55:34.420 You know, he's crawling.
00:55:35.620 And next thing you know, I'm like, I'm thinking to myself, I'm like, why is Trump still speaking?
00:55:41.780 Why have they not pulled him off the stage?
00:55:43.580 I'm standing there pointing at him for, you know, two or three minutes.
00:55:47.960 Secret Service is looking at us from the top of the barn.
00:55:50.620 I'm pointing at that roof, just standing there like this.
00:55:54.680 And next thing you know, five shots rang out.
00:55:57.280 So you're most certain that the shots came from that guy on the roof?
00:56:00.760 A hundred percent.
00:56:01.900 A hundred percent.
00:56:03.060 And he was up there for a couple of minutes.
00:56:05.120 He was up there.
00:56:05.640 And he was up there for a couple of minutes.
00:56:06.720 Absolutely.
00:56:07.340 At least three to four minutes.
00:56:08.480 And you were telling the police and the Secret Service.
00:56:10.480 We were telling the police.
00:56:11.920 We were pointing at him for the Secret Service who were looking at us from the top of the barn.
00:56:15.940 They were looking at us the whole time when we were standing by that tree.
00:56:18.360 Could they see him?
00:56:18.760 The binoculars.
00:56:19.820 Could they see him?
00:56:20.680 Probably not.
00:56:21.660 Because the roof, the way the slope went, he was behind where they could see.
00:56:26.040 But why is there not Secret Service on all of these roofs here?
00:56:29.720 I mean, this is not a big place.
00:56:31.860 Did you see, I mean, obviously everyone, when the shooting started,
00:56:34.940 everyone was very panicked.
00:56:36.840 Did you see what happened to him at all?
00:56:38.840 Oh, yeah.
00:56:39.140 They blew his head off.
00:56:40.320 Okay.
00:56:40.780 Sorry.
00:56:41.260 Secret Service blew his head off.
00:56:42.540 Okay.
00:56:42.880 Just be careful because we don't know quite who's watching.
00:56:45.360 But you're pretty sure they shot the guy?
00:56:47.540 Absolutely.
00:56:48.100 A hundred percent.
00:56:48.600 Okay.
00:56:48.860 You saw that happen?
00:56:50.420 Yep.
00:56:50.920 Yep.
00:56:51.320 Okay.
00:56:51.940 Yep.
00:56:52.200 And did you see them go up to him afterwards?
00:56:55.420 Yeah.
00:56:56.180 They crawled up on the roof.
00:56:57.640 They had their guns pointed at him.
00:56:59.020 Make sure he was dead.
00:56:59.940 He was dead.
00:57:00.840 And that was it.
00:57:01.480 It was over.
00:57:03.100 That's incredibly shocking.
00:57:04.060 The guy was on the roof right there.
00:57:05.760 You can see the white roof right there.
00:57:07.980 Did you get a look at him?
00:57:08.940 Could you?
00:57:10.040 No.
00:57:10.540 Other than he was in muted colors, tan type clothing.
00:57:16.160 We saw the rifle flinging around as he was trying to crawl.
00:57:19.500 I mean, we saw the rifle.
00:57:20.500 A hundred percent.
00:57:21.160 I mean, do you know about guns?
00:57:22.460 Do you know what kind of weapon it was?
00:57:23.820 Oh, I absolutely know about guns.
00:57:25.080 For sure.
00:57:25.620 Yeah.
00:57:25.840 I mean, it was a rifle of some sort.
00:57:27.260 I wouldn't know.
00:57:28.120 You know, I wasn't close enough to read the label on it.
00:57:30.840 I'm not sure.
00:57:31.020 It was a rifle of some sort.
00:57:33.860 Yeah, absolutely.
00:57:35.580 So how do you process what you've just seen?
00:57:40.600 I don't know what to say, man.
00:57:42.780 I'll tell you is, you know, if I walked up close to there with anything that Secret Service
00:57:50.860 is considered a problem, I wouldn't be standing here talking to you right now.
00:57:55.200 But I don't know why a guy who we're standing there pointing out to police and Secret Service
00:58:00.180 is crawling up the roof.
00:58:02.400 Were you outside the security department?
00:58:04.280 Yes.
00:58:04.820 We're right there by that tree.
00:58:06.460 We were outside the security department.
00:58:08.520 But my question is, there's only a few buildings around here.
00:58:13.300 Why is Secret Service not on every building here?
00:58:16.360 Well, there's a whole bunch of questions.
00:58:17.620 I think they're going to come.
00:58:18.880 There's a whole bunch of questions.
00:58:20.760 Yeah.
00:58:23.900 Yes, she was right in front of me.
00:58:25.460 She kept going back and forth right in front of me.
00:58:27.380 Yes.
00:58:28.820 Tell us about her.
00:58:30.840 I mean, nice horse.
00:58:32.860 Nice lady running with a flag.
00:58:34.800 She seemed very, you know, patriotic.
00:58:37.540 But what's the significance of the earth?
00:58:39.960 No, she just said, he asked me if I saw a horse.
00:58:42.180 Okay.
00:58:42.960 All right.
00:58:43.240 Well, listen, I'm sorry you had to witness that.
00:58:45.200 That was a terrible thing.
00:58:46.780 And you should stay safe with your family.
00:58:49.380 Gotcha.
00:58:50.140 Thanks for your time.
00:58:50.720 Gotcha, man.
00:58:51.300 So lots of questions here.
00:58:52.760 How could this have happened?
00:58:54.020 And this apparent eyewitness raises a big point.
00:58:57.820 He says, why warrant Secret Service on every building here?
00:59:02.300 So this is not a big place.
00:59:03.680 And that's true.
00:59:04.480 This took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
00:59:06.900 Butler is outside of Pittsburgh.
00:59:08.780 So it's in western Pennsylvania.
00:59:10.340 The population of Butler in 2022, year of our Lord, was 13,176 people.
00:59:17.120 We're talking about a small town here.
00:59:20.760 So if the shooter was on a building outside of the security perimeter, it's a major question.
00:59:28.180 Why wasn't that?
00:59:29.180 How many big buildings are there?
00:59:30.980 What kind of building was this?
00:59:32.260 And then you add on top of that the question, okay, if this guy said to police, and you can hear at the beginning, he says, I told police there's a guy with a rifle on that building.
00:59:42.480 So if we believe this man at all, if he is credible, and who knows, this is just being brought to us by the BBC, he at first says, I talked to police.
00:59:55.400 I said, there's a rifle there.
00:59:57.280 And then some minutes later, he says, why is Trump still speaking?
01:00:00.920 There's a guy, they need to pull him off stage.
01:00:02.860 The question is, one, were the police informed of this?
01:00:07.660 Was there a failure of police, local police?
01:00:10.440 Two, was Secret Service informed?
01:00:13.060 You hear by the end of his interview, he says, I'm telling police, I'm telling Secret Service.
01:00:16.700 Well, that's different.
01:00:17.720 Did he tell police or did he tell U.S. Secret Service?
01:00:19.920 If it's U.S. Secret Service, then there's a real question.
01:00:23.680 Why, even if it's police, Secret Service, we're all over that place.
01:00:28.080 Why did someone not say, pull the president?
01:00:30.880 Did someone report there's a guy with a rifle on the roof?
01:00:36.620 And they chose not to pull the president.
01:00:40.320 Was the president shot?
01:00:41.560 Was he injured when he was tackled by Secret Service?
01:00:44.480 That remains unclear.
01:00:45.320 We spoke earlier to a rally attendee who said that, as he saw it, the gunman was on a building
01:00:53.180 outside of the security perimeter shooting through the bleachers, which is how at least
01:00:57.920 two people were seriously injured.
01:00:59.640 One person at least has died.
01:01:00.980 The other remains for now, as we see in critical condition, through the bleachers aiming at the
01:01:06.300 president.
01:01:07.920 Was the president shot or was the president injured as he went down?
01:01:11.720 You can see when the shots ring out, President Trump reaches for his right ear.
01:01:17.280 So he reaches for the sight of the blood.
01:01:22.620 When he comes back up after Secret Service, pull him back up, he's bleeding pretty clearly.
01:01:28.920 It looks like the injury is most clearly on his upper part of his right ear.
01:01:33.660 And then there's some blood on his cheek as well.
01:01:36.300 The fact that he reaches for his ear before Secret Service tackles him as the shots ring
01:01:44.040 out would lead some people to conclude perhaps he was hit with something, either was grazed
01:01:50.100 by a bullet or was hit with some kind of shrapnel or something.
01:01:53.500 That's unclear.
01:01:54.180 That might be a coincidence.
01:01:55.500 Might be that he was reaching for his ear because the shots were loud or something.
01:01:59.260 And then coincidentally, he comes back up with Secret Service.
01:02:03.720 Let's play it again from the top.
01:02:04.920 I just want to take another look at it again.
01:02:07.660 You see, okay, so there's Trump in the MAGA hat.
01:02:10.740 He's speaking.
01:02:11.820 Shots ring out.
01:02:12.320 He hits his ear.
01:02:14.260 The same ear.
01:02:20.980 It's totally unclear from the video.
01:02:22.760 This is why I know a lot of people have been reporting on social media, Trump is shot,
01:02:26.820 Trump is shot.
01:02:27.360 I have refrained from that kind of language for now because we just don't know.
01:02:31.980 And unlike the establishment media, we here at the Daily Wire try to be responsible and
01:02:38.920 only work with the facts and what we've got.
01:02:42.580 What we do know for a fact is that there was a shooter at Trump's rally in Pennsylvania.
01:02:48.600 He fired multiple shots into the crowd.
01:02:53.040 One rally attendee is dead.
01:02:54.840 One has been left in critical condition.
01:02:57.640 Trump is bloodied on the face, squirted out by Secret Service, but not before he gets up.
01:03:06.800 He gets up there.
01:03:07.720 Secret Service is trying to pull him out.
01:03:09.040 He puts his fist up in the air as if not only to say he's okay, but he says something else.
01:03:16.860 He says, fight, fight, fight.
01:03:20.260 He doesn't know if these are the last words he's going to say.
01:03:24.600 He's escorted out.
01:03:25.580 We have an image of the dead shooter.
01:03:27.660 As far as I know, we still don't know the identity of the shooter.
01:03:32.880 A lot of good that image does me.
01:03:34.280 They blur the image because he's dead.
01:03:36.380 Oh, okay.
01:03:37.480 We have pretty serious looking employees of the U.S. federal government taking down that shooter.
01:03:47.900 This is not just a kind of local security operation.
01:03:53.080 Obviously, we're talking about a former president of the United States, current nominee.
01:03:57.660 As Mike Wright, we were talking to earlier, who was an eyewitness at the rally, told us the Secret Service had gunmen posted ready to take down any potential threat.
01:04:10.280 So when the shots rang out, shots fired back, ostensibly from U.S. Secret Service.
01:04:15.600 There you see two guys in camo, wielding presumably fully automatic weapons, then standing over the dead shooter.
01:04:26.820 Shooter dead.
01:04:27.400 We don't know anything about him.
01:04:30.720 We know he's a man.
01:04:32.300 We know he brought guns.
01:04:33.520 We don't know how.
01:04:34.920 This wasn't caught before it happened.
01:04:36.960 At least we have one rally-goer who says, hey, I saw him climbing up.
01:04:42.520 I told police.
01:04:43.600 Nothing was done.
01:04:46.600 We saw a statement from the president.
01:04:50.620 Live updates.
01:04:55.400 Trump camp still saying the president is fine.
01:05:02.020 President Biden says he might speak later.
01:05:05.040 We'll see.
01:05:06.260 We'll see if he does.
01:05:07.340 He said he might not speak later, but he'll at least have a statement.
01:05:09.900 We have six sentences from President Biden.
01:05:13.160 I said earlier in this broadcast, this extraordinarily dramatic event does not change the stakes in the election.
01:05:27.320 What it does is clarify the stakes in the election.
01:05:30.780 And another thing that clarifies here, Trump goes down after shots ring out.
01:05:35.460 He's got blood coming down from his ear and his face.
01:05:37.660 He stands up, stands up like a man.
01:05:40.480 Won't let the Secret Service pull him off stage, even though another bullet might come flying.
01:05:44.320 He stands up like a man, fixes his clothing, lifts his fist in the air, and says, fight, fight, fight.
01:05:53.720 But then and only then does he allow Secret Service to whisk him off stage.
01:05:57.560 Another bullet could have flown right into him at any second.
01:06:00.460 He doesn't care.
01:06:01.240 He's going to lead.
01:06:03.480 He's going to stand like a man.
01:06:04.500 Then what we find out on the other side of this election is that a couple hours later, President Biden finds his way down.
01:06:13.800 The corridor is able to make a statement.
01:06:16.680 Shirt unbuttoned, no tie, says nothing.
01:06:20.760 Says, oh, yeah, I tried calling Donald.
01:06:22.640 But, you know, I guess he's at the doctor right now on account of all the gunshots and the blood on his face.
01:06:27.900 But maybe I'll talk to him later.
01:06:29.500 And anyway, you know, this is bad.
01:06:32.040 This shouldn't happen.
01:06:32.700 It's really bad.
01:06:33.360 It's unthinkable.
01:06:35.460 It was unthinkable.
01:06:36.760 Unimaginable.
01:06:38.920 You started your presidential campaign lying about him, saying he called Nazis fine people.
01:06:42.760 And you've consistently said that President Trump poses an existential threat to our entire government and our country.
01:06:50.760 And you've spent years calling his supporters insurrectionists.
01:06:56.320 And your supporters continue, including six days ago in a cover story on the New Republic.
01:07:01.880 Call him Hitler.
01:07:06.320 And depict him as Hitler.
01:07:07.940 We've got reporting from the Daily Wire that Trump is in the hospital and in stable condition.
01:07:13.800 We have a statement now from Kamala Harris.
01:07:17.200 I hope her statement will give us something forward to look to in the future, something that could be unburdened by what has been.
01:07:24.640 But here's what she says.
01:07:25.440 I have been briefed on the shooting at former President Trump's event.
01:07:29.220 Former, you know, lady.
01:07:30.240 I'm amazed she didn't call him, you know, the last guy or whatever the liberals like calling him.
01:07:39.680 Former President Trump's event in Pennsylvania.
01:07:42.180 Doug and I are relieved that he's not seriously injured.
01:07:44.600 We're praying for him, his family, and all those who have been injured and impacted by this senseless shooting.
01:07:50.520 Senseless shooting?
01:07:51.360 You called him Hitler, lady.
01:07:54.620 Senseless shooting.
01:07:55.420 What's the – I don't know.
01:07:56.320 Here's the sense of it to me.
01:07:58.120 Again, I don't – the conclusion that this shooter drew is erroneous.
01:08:02.940 But it's an erroneous conclusion, namely I should go shoot Donald Trump, based on a false premise.
01:08:09.560 But the logic from the false premise to I'm going to go murder President Trump, the logic actually makes a lot of sense.
01:08:15.500 Because you people have been calling him Hitler and an existential threat to the democracy.
01:08:20.260 That's why.
01:08:20.780 That's why he did it.
01:08:21.460 That's not senseless.
01:08:22.380 There's a lot of good sense in that.
01:08:24.440 Based on a false premise that you irresponsibly have been peddling for years.
01:08:29.980 Senseless.
01:08:32.200 Disgusting.
01:08:32.980 Disgusting statement from Kamala Harris.
01:08:35.180 We're grateful to the United States Secret Service first responders and local authorities for their immediate action.
01:08:40.740 Violence such as this has no place in our nation.
01:08:42.940 We must condemn this abhorrent act and do our part to ensure that it does not lead to more violence.
01:08:47.040 Yeah.
01:08:47.840 Yeah, that's a good idea.
01:08:49.440 Totally senseless, huh?
01:08:50.660 How about one second of introspection from the Democrats?
01:08:55.460 One nanosecond of introspection.
01:08:58.820 Hmm.
01:08:59.460 Maybe if we call this guy Hitler and say he's going to overthrow our democracy.
01:09:02.620 And he's the greatest threat we've ever faced in this country.
01:09:05.180 Worse than when the White House got burned down in 1812.
01:09:08.420 Maybe someone might try to kill him.
01:09:10.960 Maybe just two seconds.
01:09:11.800 Maybe I bet you take a breath before your snarky comments and your obfuscation and your prevarication.
01:09:17.500 Disgusting.
01:09:22.140 Absolutely disgusting.
01:09:27.140 Like many conservatives, I'm generally in control of my emotions a little bit more than maybe some of our opponents.
01:09:35.480 Twice now, though, I've felt a little blood boil up in me.
01:09:42.260 Kamala Harris's disgusting statement.
01:09:44.860 Senseless.
01:09:46.260 A senseless statement is what that is.
01:09:48.080 And when I first saw the clip, of course, I think a lot of people felt their blood boil.
01:09:54.920 There's a line from another former president when he was in office that came to me immediately when I saw this.
01:10:03.580 This footage of the culmination of years of calling Trump the grave threat to our entire country, the end of democracy, Adolf Hitler 2.0.
01:10:19.260 Now, bullets fly.
01:10:21.860 The president shows up blood on half his face.
01:10:26.080 That image fills me, at least, and I think a lot of us, with a quiet, unyielding anger.
01:10:36.420 I'm real angry.
01:10:38.540 Real angry.
01:10:41.320 Because some of us predicted this.
01:10:46.420 And we were right.
01:10:47.620 And usually when I say I hate to say I told you so, I don't actually hate to say I told you so.
01:10:51.640 I actually like it.
01:10:52.500 This time I really hate to say I told you so.
01:10:56.540 Call this whatever you want to call this.
01:11:00.220 Call this terrible, tragic, evil, awful, un-American, anti-democratic.
01:11:06.680 Call it whatever you want.
01:11:09.520 Don't call it unexpected.
01:11:11.560 And don't call it senseless, Kamala Harris.
01:11:13.660 Don't call it senseless.
01:11:15.380 There is a great deal of sense.
01:11:16.700 There is a great deal of logic in the attempt to murder Trump.
01:11:21.580 And apparently the successful killing of at least one of his supporters at a rally.
01:11:27.360 It is the logic that you have been teeing up for years based on false premises.
01:11:32.860 That he's Hitler and that he's going to destroy the whole government and the whole country.
01:11:36.400 Don't tell me it's unexpected.
01:11:42.020 Don't tell me that it's senseless.
01:11:43.800 Please.
01:11:45.340 Getting more updates here.
01:11:46.860 The source familiar with President Trump's security detail is telling the Federalist that the former and future president's detail has been asking for beefed up protection and resources for weeks, but has been rebuffed time and again by President Biden's Department of Homeland Security.
01:12:06.260 The Department of Homeland Security oversees secret service protective detail and the DHS, according to this report that is developing from the Federalist.
01:12:17.480 And they were not responsive to those requests for more resources.
01:12:24.600 Because this was obviously a particularly perilous time for President Trump.
01:12:37.120 And it was particularly perilous because the attempts to destroy his campaign have not worked.
01:12:46.200 Bad press about him hasn't worked.
01:12:49.840 His poll numbers remained strong and better than Biden most of the time.
01:12:54.940 The attempts to prosecute him haven't really worked.
01:12:59.340 They got him on some fake crime in New York, but it doesn't really matter.
01:13:03.000 It didn't move the poll numbers.
01:13:04.140 And then the other prosecutions have been delayed.
01:13:06.060 So that didn't really work.
01:13:08.080 That's why President Biden proposed the debate a couple weeks ago.
01:13:11.560 That was a complete disaster.
01:13:12.740 And the logic behind the debate was, shoot, I got to do something because I'm losing to Trump.
01:13:17.600 If Biden hadn't been losing to Trump, he wouldn't have had to debate.
01:13:19.800 He wouldn't have had to show his neck.
01:13:21.260 But he did.
01:13:22.200 And he proposed all sorts of radical new rules that I suspect the Democrats thought the Trump campaign would either shoot down or try to negotiate.
01:13:30.820 And then they could say Trump's a chicken.
01:13:31.860 He doesn't want to debate.
01:13:32.820 Trump accepted all of the crazy new rules.
01:13:36.420 The debate's not going to be run by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
01:13:39.000 It's going to be televised on CNN, a left-wing news channel.
01:13:43.020 He agrees to it.
01:13:43.880 There are going to be commercial breaks.
01:13:45.200 He agrees to it.
01:13:46.720 Could have been helpful for Biden.
01:13:47.940 There's going to be no studio audience.
01:13:49.160 Could have been helpful for Biden because Trump does very well with the crowd, obviously.
01:13:52.860 We're talking about a major Trump rally.
01:13:55.100 Trump agrees to it.
01:13:55.880 And the debate was a complete disaster for Biden.
01:14:00.480 They can't figure out a way to get him out.
01:14:02.800 So that's it.
01:14:03.580 They're out of options.
01:14:04.960 I'm not the only one who said at some point someone's going to try to murder Trump because they have no other way to beat him.
01:14:11.420 They tried to get Biden out of the race.
01:14:13.000 Biden doesn't want to leave the race.
01:14:14.040 And the people who would replace Biden, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, whatever, give me a break, none of them can beat Trump.
01:14:21.120 So the Democrats are caught between a rock and a hard place if they can even oust Biden, which I don't think they can.
01:14:28.260 So that's it.
01:14:28.920 There's nothing left, as we have been saying for months.
01:14:34.720 It was a particularly perilous moment.
01:14:36.720 And now, if this report coming from the Federalist is true, that the Trump campaign had been wisely, reasonably asking for beefed-up security protections for weeks, and the Biden administration says no?
01:14:47.440 And then shots ring out, at least one dead, Trump with blood all over the side of his face?
01:14:56.940 I'm not even going to articulate the anxieties that that raises for people.
01:15:03.660 That is so ghastly, not even going to articulate it.
01:15:09.560 We have a new angle of the shooting.
01:15:12.820 So we've been playing this clip, you know, head-on of President Trump in Pennsylvania.
01:15:19.100 Here's the – I hope it sheds some more light on what happened.
01:15:23.500 Here's a different angle.
01:15:27.060 And look what happened to our country.
01:15:30.480 Probably 20 million people.
01:15:33.380 And, you know, that's a little bit old, that chart.
01:15:35.820 That chart's a couple of months old.
01:15:37.420 And if you want to really see something that's said, take a look at what happened.
01:15:42.820 It doesn't shed much more light on it, other than you get a sense of the space.
01:16:13.100 So we spoke earlier with Mike Wright, who was an attendee at the rally.
01:16:18.740 He was in the VIP section, so he was relatively closer to the stage.
01:16:22.300 And you can see the bleachers.
01:16:25.640 You can also see – this is a small town.
01:16:28.900 When you watch these rallies on TV, you have no idea.
01:16:31.420 Is this in a stadium?
01:16:33.020 Is this in a big city?
01:16:34.920 No, it's not.
01:16:35.600 There are very few buildings, really, anywhere around here.
01:16:38.700 There are some bleachers.
01:16:40.560 I mean, we're talking about a town of about 12,000 people in rural western Pennsylvania, outside of Pittsburgh.
01:16:47.940 And so according to one eyewitness that we spoke with, the shots were fired from a building through the bleachers at the president.
01:17:00.380 Then, U.S. Secret Service, in the words of one eyewitness, blew the guy's head off.
01:17:08.780 But not before that shooter had killed a rally attendee, critically injured another, and bloodied the president's face somehow.
01:17:19.820 Now, that story – well, the whole story is developing.
01:17:24.580 The question about whether or not the Trump campaign had been asking for increased security from the Biden administration in recent weeks and been rebuffed,
01:17:37.680 that story is also developing, and that sheds a really dark light, a contradiction in terms, something of a paradox on what just happened.
01:17:51.340 Elon Musk now is tweeting out that clip of an eyewitness saying that he informed police in Secret Service about a suspicious man on the roof with a rifle.
01:18:00.320 For example, Elon is calling for the head of the secret service and the leader of Trump's security detail to resign.
01:18:09.820 Trump, of course, the top trending news on – well, on X, where I'm pulling for the latest, it tends to be the best in terms of breaking news, but trending all over.
01:18:21.260 The establishment news outlets not giving us much new information.
01:18:25.160 The latest that we're seeing is that the Secret Service is investigating the shooting as an assassination attempt.
01:18:35.580 G, you don't say.
01:18:36.260 You heard that the president was asked at the end, is this an assassination attempt?
01:18:40.600 We're unable to hear his answer or his non-answer.
01:18:48.300 Trump comes up, says, wait, wait.
01:18:50.260 You're seeing some Republicans and Democrats coming out and condemning the violence.
01:18:56.560 That's good.
01:18:59.660 Trump appears to still be in the hospital.
01:19:05.100 More eyewitnesses coming out now.
01:19:09.300 Chuck Schumer's come out.
01:19:10.400 He's made a statement.
01:19:11.120 He said he's horrified by what happened and was relieved that Trump is safe.
01:19:14.380 Political violence has no place in our country.
01:19:15.980 This is the same Chuck Schumer who stood outside the Supreme Court and said, we're coming for you, Kavanaugh.
01:19:21.720 We're coming for you, Gorsuch.
01:19:23.440 You're going to reap the whirlwind to Supreme Court justices who are appointed for life.
01:19:30.880 The only way to get rid of a Supreme Court justice is to persuade him to step down or to kill him.
01:19:37.460 And that's exactly what one leftist tried to do just a couple years ago.
01:19:41.460 Crossed the whole country, tried to kill him.
01:19:43.680 Luckily, he was apprehended before he could go into Justice Kavanaugh's home where his family sleeps to murder the justice.
01:19:50.140 And who knows, maybe the whole family.
01:19:52.220 So that's the same Chuck Schumer.
01:19:53.300 We're coming for you, Kavanaugh.
01:19:54.440 We're coming for you, Gorsuch.
01:19:56.720 Attacking a co-equal branch of government as the, now he's the Democrat Senate majority leader.
01:20:03.260 Political violence has no place in our country.
01:20:05.260 That's nice.
01:20:05.740 Nice to hear that now.
01:20:06.540 According to the Secret Service, the Secret Service has implemented protective measures.
01:20:14.800 The former president is safe.
01:20:16.540 And, you know, they'll give us more info when they've got it.
01:20:18.920 Okay.
01:20:20.700 Okay.
01:20:23.080 Venue obviously abandoned.
01:20:24.480 Although we're hearing from eyewitnesses that apparently the evacuation was handled in a pretty orderly fashion.
01:20:37.760 Latest update.
01:20:38.600 Here we go.
01:20:38.980 President Trump has just posted on Truth Social.
01:20:40.860 I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of law enforcement for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
01:20:50.680 Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.
01:21:00.220 It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.
01:21:03.360 Nothing is known at this time about the shooter who is now dead.
01:21:07.020 I was shot with a bullet that pierced my upper part of my right ear.
01:21:10.280 So this is now confirmation from President Trump, the former president and the leading Republican, the nominee of the party, has been shot.
01:21:21.840 I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.
01:21:25.080 I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound shots and immediately felt the bullet ripping through my skin.
01:21:30.780 Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.
01:21:33.660 God bless America.
01:21:34.320 One centimeter difference.
01:21:44.080 And Trump is dead.
01:21:46.120 One.
01:21:50.080 According to President Trump, I want to pull it up just to confirm that it's not, you never know on social media.
01:21:55.080 Truth Social, Donald Trump.
01:21:56.760 I want to see it on his feed myself.
01:21:58.400 I'm being told it's real.
01:22:02.240 I want to see it for myself.
01:22:05.360 TruthSocial.com slash RealDonaldTrump.
01:22:09.080 There it is.
01:22:10.580 The president now confirming.
01:22:14.220 President Trump now confirming.
01:22:16.760 He was shot in the ear.
01:22:19.380 I've been cautious in how I'm reporting this because there's so much information that's flying around.
01:22:34.320 We now have confirmation from the man himself.
01:22:39.580 Trump was shot in the head.
01:22:41.860 And happily, happily, I guess you would say that happily, he was shot in the part of his head that's just kind of protruding just a little bit in his ear.
01:22:57.080 Half a centimeter difference.
01:23:00.440 He's dead.
01:23:03.280 This close.
01:23:04.700 This close they were.
01:23:05.840 Thank God.
01:23:08.140 Thank God.
01:23:11.860 The cosmos and all of history is finely tuned according to God's providence.
01:23:20.400 So, this is the way the story goes.
01:23:24.840 Thank God.
01:23:28.180 The president was shot in his head.
01:23:34.540 And they only got his ear.
01:23:37.560 Blood on his face.
01:23:39.080 One.
01:23:39.400 If you've ever fired a gun, if you have any familiarity with firearms, we're talking about a considerable distance because the shot was fired, according to reports, outside of the venue.
01:23:53.160 Donald Trump being alive and stable versus Donald Trump being dead on a stage in Pennsylvania was the difference of a breath, of a hair pull of the trigger, of the way the shooter's blood was pumping at that precise moment.
01:24:13.980 You're talking about no distance, virtually no distance between Donald Trump shot, gets up, says, stop, wait, wait, wait, knowing that another shot could be coming.
01:24:25.720 Fist up in the air, fight, fight, fight, because these could be his last words.
01:24:29.440 Walks off the stage, aided by Secret Service.
01:24:32.920 And President Trump dead on the ground in Pennsylvania.
01:24:36.900 I'm speechless.
01:25:06.880 Who, a former president, presidential candidate, assassinated.
01:25:16.560 This close.
01:25:17.440 And you could tell, the reason that I suspected he was shot was when I saw that picture.
01:25:24.160 As the eyewitness we talked to, he then made me think, okay, well, maybe it was just the blood on his face was from when he was tackled by Secret Service.
01:25:33.460 But when you look at the picture closely, you can see that his ear looks particularly bad.
01:25:39.720 His ear right, right by the skull.
01:25:44.020 Makes you think of Kennedy.
01:25:45.120 And the other reason I suspected he was shot, though I didn't want to really say it before it was confirmed, now confirmed by Trump.
01:25:53.680 The shot rang out.
01:25:58.100 He grabbed his ear.
01:26:00.040 Then Secret Service tackled him.
01:26:02.240 So it could not be the case that Secret Service caused the injury.
01:26:07.200 Unless it were just some shocking coincidence.
01:26:11.120 So we now have confirmation.
01:26:12.980 Anyone tuning in just now?
01:26:15.820 Trump, well, a class act, really.
01:26:18.860 First says, before you even know, I was reading that live to you.
01:26:22.620 I didn't know if Trump was shot or not.
01:26:24.140 Listen to how he phrases it.
01:26:28.040 First, he thanks law enforcement.
01:26:29.560 Then he wants to, he extends condolences to the family of this rally goer, the supporter, who was murdered for supporting Trump.
01:26:42.440 And then to the family of the other person who was badly injured and who I hope survives.
01:26:49.620 He says, it is incredible that such an act could take place in our country.
01:26:52.400 Nothing is known about this.
01:26:54.580 So then he addresses, don't worry, the shooter is dead, but we don't know about him.
01:26:58.440 And then and only then does he get to, oh, by the way, I was shot.
01:27:01.940 This is, this is pure Teddy Roosevelt.
01:27:05.200 This is pure bull moose.
01:27:07.140 Hey, hey, hey.
01:27:09.320 1912.
01:27:09.820 Hey, hey, hey.
01:27:10.320 Some of you don't know.
01:27:11.680 I've just been shot.
01:27:12.780 But it takes more than that to kill a bull moose.
01:27:14.720 You have another witness who is speaking, spoke to CNN.
01:27:44.720 Here he is.
01:27:45.920 He or she.
01:27:46.940 I'm here with Joseph Mine.
01:27:49.480 He was sitting actually behind Donald Trump in the bleachers today when this all unfolded.
01:27:54.960 He I'm going to let him share exactly what he saw.
01:27:58.220 It was a very harrowing moment that he he was there for.
01:28:00.840 Can you please tell us what happened, Joseph?
01:28:02.380 Yeah, I was the truck.
01:28:03.580 I was attending the rally.
01:28:05.640 It seemed initially like firecrackers went off.
01:28:09.940 It was a little bit very confusing initially because, you know, I knew it was gunfire, but I couldn't quite tell where it was coming from.
01:28:14.980 It's not like it was coming from behind the bleachers.
01:28:17.240 And the man in the bleachers kind of to the right of me in the bleachers took a gunshot wound to the head.
01:28:24.220 It was killed.
01:28:25.720 And another woman, I don't know exactly where she was in the bleachers.
01:28:28.320 I think she was either behind me or to the right of me.
01:28:30.060 She got around in the she got hit in the forearm and hand, it looked like.
01:28:35.260 But it just she was wounded.
01:28:36.520 She wasn't killed.
01:28:38.660 Can I ask you how you're feeling?
01:28:39.960 Obviously, you just witnessed something terrible happen.
01:28:43.420 A lot of chaos was in the room.
01:28:44.800 How exactly are you feeling right now, Joseph?
01:28:47.860 You know, it's something you don't expect.
01:28:49.480 You know, it's a bolt out of the blue.
01:28:50.760 So it's very shocking.
01:28:51.680 It's just I think a lot of people in the crowd just said it was fireworks going off.
01:28:55.620 I knew immediately it was gunshots.
01:28:56.880 I, you know, I knew they were close.
01:28:58.880 And then when I saw someone get hit and go down, that's when I knew it was probably serious.
01:29:04.680 You know, it's a lot of confusion.
01:29:06.860 It's just massive confusion, you know, throughout the event.
01:29:11.020 I saw Donald Trump get hit.
01:29:13.480 It looked like he had looked, you know, he was either.
01:29:15.940 I haven't.
01:29:16.420 I was running my camera at the time, but it looked like he was just turning to the.
01:29:20.040 He was turning his head to the side.
01:29:21.200 It looked like he got grazed in the right ear with a bullet.
01:29:25.780 I kind of saw that go on.
01:29:27.980 And I looked down.
01:29:28.640 I saw the man, you know, died in the bleachers.
01:29:31.460 It was just complete pandemonium.
01:29:32.720 Like every, you know, there was a bit of a delay.
01:29:35.260 Like there was a lot of confusion.
01:29:36.240 But immediately, you know, it seemed like more gunfire erupted.
01:29:39.020 I couldn't figure out where that was coming from.
01:29:40.520 And then, you know, there was a state policeman there.
01:29:43.600 A, I believe a SWAT team, you know, showed up relatively quickly.
01:29:47.400 They jumped those side.
01:29:48.900 There was a fence.
01:29:49.620 It was next to the bleachers.
01:29:50.560 They jumped the bleachers and started clearing the bleachers.
01:29:52.360 And then I helped carry the body of the man down out of the bleachers.
01:29:56.160 And they took him to a tent behind the bleachers.
01:29:58.940 We put a towel over his head.
01:30:00.420 But he is diseased.
01:30:05.180 You were telling me before when we were chatting briefly that you never had a chance to make it to a Trump rally, that this was your first time.
01:30:12.440 Would you feel safe coming back to another Trump rally?
01:30:15.700 Yeah, you know, it's a very random event that happens.
01:30:19.860 You know, I feel safe generally where I go in the country.
01:30:23.240 You know, I think the problem is we have a very, everyone seems very angry.
01:30:30.060 And, you know, it makes you kind of, you know, I'll go to a Trump rally again, but I'll think twice.
01:30:34.840 You know, you definitely want to have your head on the swivel.
01:30:36.500 It just seems like there's a lot of angry people out there.
01:30:38.320 And I'm not shocked that this happened.
01:30:41.120 I'm shocked that I was sitting there and it happened next to me.
01:30:43.420 Obviously, you never anticipate that to happen, but it's just horrible.
01:30:49.780 You know, we shouldn't be at a level of political discourse in this country where this is going on.
01:30:53.260 It feels like it's 1960 again.
01:30:56.320 You know, it's just horrible.
01:30:59.160 Can you describe for me, Joseph, what happened after you saw the shots?
01:31:04.780 And I mean, I was there as well.
01:31:07.520 Secret Service was screaming for everyone to get down.
01:31:09.260 They quickly tried to clear the area.
01:31:10.680 I'm just curious what that process was like for you in the aftermath.
01:31:17.300 Very confusing.
01:31:18.160 Like I said, I think everyone who was in the bleachers knew it was initially confusing when the gunshots erupted.
01:31:24.580 Half, I think the crowd thought it was fireworks.
01:31:26.120 I think someone thought they were playing a joke.
01:31:28.520 And, you know, the people were close to the people that got injured and killed.
01:31:31.780 You obviously knew it wasn't a joke.
01:31:32.860 And it seemed like there was a push-pull in the crowd.
01:31:36.140 And that is, one half of the crowd on the far end of the rally thought it was some type of weird joke.
01:31:40.620 The other half of the crowd knew it wasn't.
01:31:42.160 It was trying to push or impress upon the rest of the crowd that this is serious.
01:31:45.780 And I think everyone got the idea very quickly that it was a dangerous situation.
01:31:50.940 And everyone just started hitting the deck.
01:31:53.020 And, you know, kudos to the Secret Service.
01:31:54.840 Just, you know, again, you know, when you're in these situations, a second feels like it's an hour.
01:31:59.120 But it seemed like authorities were there very quickly.
01:32:03.020 It just seemed to me, like I said, I was sitting there.
01:32:04.740 It seemed like the rounds came from behind.
01:32:06.860 And they got this.
01:32:08.340 They hit the gentleman in the head.
01:32:09.920 You know, he got a gunshot went into the head.
01:32:11.120 And the other lady was injured.
01:32:12.020 And then I saw Trump, President Trump, you know, get hit.
01:32:15.400 And it looked like his right ear.
01:32:16.440 But it seemed initially everyone was in, like, half the crowd was in shock.
01:32:20.980 And the other half thought it was some type of weird joke.
01:32:22.780 And it just, it took a bit for everyone to get a good understanding of what was going on.
01:32:31.240 You mentioned that you had spoken with the person who ended up falling, I believe you said.
01:32:38.160 Or he was with his whole family?
01:32:39.320 No, his family watched it happen.
01:32:41.660 So they were in the bleachers when he got hit and he went down.
01:32:44.540 I think they were trying to figure out what was going on.
01:32:47.380 They were screaming for help.
01:32:49.980 The body was, they put a towel over the man's head.
01:32:52.300 The body was removed from the bleachers.
01:32:54.060 Then the police came back, you know, right after and tried to move the family.
01:32:57.780 But they were all in shock.
01:32:58.860 They didn't quite, they weren't processing what was going on.
01:33:02.120 The man was definitely, he was dead the minute he was hit.
01:33:05.960 I mean, it was something that reminded me of the Zapruder film from Kennedy.
01:33:09.980 I mean, it was, it was, his head snapped and that was it.
01:33:12.900 And I caught it out of the corner of my eye.
01:33:14.460 And, you know, and then there was just pandemonium.
01:33:17.540 And again, you know, it's Pennsylvania.
01:33:19.520 You don't, you know, you're out in rural Pennsylvania.
01:33:21.460 You don't really anticipate this is going to happen.
01:33:23.380 But it happened.
01:33:25.120 You mentioned, and I'm sorry, I know this is very emotional for you as well.
01:33:32.260 You mentioned that, you know, this was your first Trump rally.
01:33:37.620 How are you feeling about the election now?
01:33:39.720 What are you hoping to see moving forward?
01:33:43.120 We've already seen a lot of statements of support from across the aisle come in for the former president.
01:33:47.660 And I can tell you, too, from our sources that they say that Donald Trump is okay, that he is at a local facility being treated.
01:33:54.320 But I would love just your view on, I know you came here today to support the man that, you know, the former president.
01:34:00.860 I'm curious how you think about this now.
01:34:02.760 I know it's a hard question given the chaos that we're currently in and the adrenaline that we're both feeling right now.
01:34:08.600 But if you can share any of that insight.
01:34:10.740 It solidifies my support.
01:34:12.240 I, you know, I understand, you know, people, people believe that Trump's, well, they know, he's bombastic.
01:34:19.360 They don't really like him.
01:34:20.100 He's a very polarizing figure.
01:34:21.340 He has an abrasive personality.
01:34:22.720 But I truly believe he has the best interest of the country at heart.
01:34:26.980 And, you know, you make a point.
01:34:30.880 You know, the man's a billionaire.
01:34:31.860 He could be sitting in the, like you said, you were sitting at the rally joking about it.
01:34:34.980 He's like, I could be sitting in the Mediterranean, not yet, enjoying my life, but I'm not.
01:34:37.660 I'm trying to help run the country.
01:34:39.120 I mean, it puts in perspective there's a real cost for that.
01:34:43.880 I mean, there's some people that really want him dead.
01:34:47.280 And to me, this is just ridiculous.
01:34:50.120 Like, you know, we have a lot of political violence in this country.
01:34:52.480 It comes from all, you know, it's not so much from the right.
01:34:54.160 It comes from everywhere.
01:34:55.180 And it just needs to stop.
01:34:57.500 Yeah, JFK, RFK, you've had Martin Luther King.
01:35:00.280 Now you're going to, you know, attempt the life of Reagan.
01:35:03.680 And now you have an attempted, you know, assassination of Trump.
01:35:06.480 It's just ridiculous.
01:35:07.160 And it just, you know, I don't think it's a gun problem.
01:35:10.000 I don't think it's a violence problem.
01:35:11.100 I think there's a lot of angry people that just have too much interest in politics.
01:35:16.860 And it's a zero-sum game to them.
01:35:19.380 You know, politics shouldn't be a zero-sum game where someone wins everything and someone loses everything.
01:35:24.340 And I think this is a result of that.
01:35:27.780 People that came today, you know, were very happy.
01:35:30.220 They were here to support Trump.
01:35:31.440 But you can tense, you can, when you talk to people in the crowd, there's a tenseness.
01:35:38.020 They don't want to, you know, they don't want to talk to family members about politics because it just gets too angry.
01:35:43.600 So I don't know what to tell you, but this needs to stop.
01:35:46.200 Thank you so much, Joseph.
01:35:47.060 We're getting some reports in.
01:35:50.920 I'm not willing to run with them yet on the shooter, on at least a visual of the shooter.
01:36:00.000 We're still waiting for some confirmation on that.
01:36:02.380 There's also a photo emerging of what might well be the bullet flying through the president's ear.
01:36:10.560 This is now making the rounds.
01:36:14.320 Trump himself is confirming he was shot in the ear.
01:36:19.360 This part to me, well, to all of us, I guess, makes the gravity of this much more real.
01:36:25.660 Well, you heard from that witness who says he was sitting right by the person who was killed, instantly killed.
01:36:33.240 Another woman was severely injured.
01:36:37.580 And the shots ring out.
01:36:38.900 And then, but you heard from another eyewitness who said, I don't know if Trump was actually shot.
01:36:42.320 He might have just been injured when the Secret Service tackled him.
01:36:46.180 Maybe it was that, you know, bullets rang out and it's so awful and it's terrible and it's now a threat to anyone who shows up to support President Trump.
01:36:53.500 And it's obviously, it's terrorism and it's an intimidation attempt to Trump's supporters.
01:36:58.280 And that's horrific enough in itself.
01:37:00.660 But one might conclude, but they still can't get Trump.
01:37:04.820 The security is too good.
01:37:06.440 Trump wasn't ever really in danger.
01:37:10.280 He was almost assassinated.
01:37:16.560 Had the bullet gone one centimeter over, he would be dead right now.
01:37:23.500 He was shot in his ear, bleeding very clearly from the top of the ear, right by his skull.
01:37:32.100 By the grace of God, is Donald Trump alive?
01:37:36.280 And not only, this then sheds so much more light.
01:37:40.520 It makes it seem so much more dramatic and incredibly courageous.
01:37:43.980 He stands up, they don't know.
01:37:45.160 He doesn't know if another bullet's going to come.
01:37:47.940 And he, and you see him, so raw, so real blunt.
01:37:53.000 He says, puts his fist in the air and he says, fight, fight, fight.
01:37:58.400 Fist in the air.
01:37:59.940 Tough.
01:38:02.440 Escorted off by Secret Service.
01:38:04.060 Someone showed up to the Trump rally.
01:38:12.240 We don't know for certain who he is yet.
01:38:16.060 To murder Trump.
01:38:18.220 That in itself is shocking.
01:38:22.280 He almost succeeded.
01:38:24.800 He got within a hair's distance of succeeding.
01:38:28.460 That is more shocking.
01:38:33.480 This must have been a pretty good shot.
01:38:36.400 To fire from outside the security perimeter, through the bleachers, killing a poor rally attendee,
01:38:42.420 severely injuring another one, and getting the president.
01:38:45.040 You see the photo there by his ear.
01:38:47.500 It's all ripped up.
01:38:49.080 Right by blood pouring down the side of his head.
01:38:52.260 Right down to his mouth.
01:38:58.460 Had the shooter breathed a little bit differently, Trump would be dead.
01:39:04.860 The former president and current Republican nominee and leading candidate for president, period, in 2024,
01:39:11.040 would be dead on a stage in Pennsylvania.
01:39:16.080 We have a statement from Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House, Democrat,
01:39:22.960 as one whose family has been the victim of political violence.
01:39:25.200 I know firsthand that political violence of any kind has no place in our society.
01:39:27.780 I thank God the former president, Trump, is safe as we learn more details about this horrifying incident.
01:39:32.220 Let us pray that all those in attendance at the former president's rally today are unharmed, obviously.
01:39:37.800 She didn't see the coverage that they were harmed.
01:39:41.740 And the president was harmed, obviously, and very, very, very nearly killed.
01:39:46.200 Trump was as near to being murdered as it is possible to be.
01:39:54.080 A secret service has just issued a statement.
01:40:00.920 I've got a copy of it here.
01:40:02.300 During former President Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the evening of July 13th at approximately 6.15 p.m.,
01:40:10.500 a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue.
01:40:16.020 U.S. Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased.
01:40:20.060 U.S. Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures, and the former president is safe and being evaluated.
01:40:25.360 One spectator was killed.
01:40:27.260 Two spectators were critically injured.
01:40:28.800 So this is some new information.
01:40:30.500 We initially were told only one person had been confirmed to have been killed.
01:40:36.040 Then we heard one person killed, one in critical condition.
01:40:38.540 Now we're hearing one spectator killed, two critically injured.
01:40:43.520 The incident is currently under investigation, and the Secret Service has formally notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
01:40:50.820 As the trickle has come in, you can see, you can see in the shot, how close that bullet was to Trump's skull.
01:41:03.940 You can just see, I mean, you see the blood pouring down his ears and the side of his face.
01:41:07.800 And onto his face, up to his, down to his lips, that you're seeing, it seems now every half hour or so,
01:41:21.420 another person seems to have been injured, or one person now confirmed dead, in addition to the shooter.
01:41:26.440 A rally goer confirmed dead, then one critically injured, and then another critically injured.
01:41:30.820 So we hope, we pray that no more will be, will be found.
01:41:37.980 Political cartoons making the rounds.
01:41:41.200 Now, one really, well, I guess it's just what I was talking about for the first 15 minutes or show of this broadcast.
01:41:50.280 The New Republic, the New Republic cover story that was published six days ago.
01:41:58.320 This is, this is one of the most prestigious, established left-wing magazines.
01:42:03.700 This, this will go down in infamy.
01:42:06.940 A picture of Trump as Hitler.
01:42:10.020 Hitler haircut, Hitler mustache, American fascism.
01:42:13.180 The New Republic with a bunch of word salad gobbledygook.
01:42:16.360 About how Trump will destroy the Republicans, so they're going to fight.
01:42:20.100 And he's Hitler.
01:42:20.960 And what is the, what is the insinuation?
01:42:22.440 The insinuation is obvious.
01:42:23.380 If you, if you merely oppose someone politically, if you, if you merely, uh, think, okay, so-and-so is, uh, you know, he's got a bad economic policy or something.
01:42:42.700 But, uh, you know, all, he's a, he's a, he's a fine guy.
01:42:45.680 Then, then the, the audience is not impelled to go murder that person.
01:42:50.780 If you hear, oh, this person's really bad for the country.
01:42:53.200 If you hear even, you know, this person supports some awful, say something, you know, abortion or something.
01:42:57.160 This person supports policies that actually do lead to a lot of death.
01:42:59.900 Even that does not, does not lead to assassinating a, a, a top politician.
01:43:08.620 But, but when you hear so-and-so is Hitler, so-and-so is the actual symbolic, uh, expression of pure evil to, for whom there is absolutely, uh,
01:43:29.900 nothing that would not be justified to stop him.
01:43:32.740 That's, that's a whole other story.
01:43:37.320 For those who are just tuning in now, we have a full clip of, of, uh, President Trump speaking and then being shot.
01:43:46.120 And look what happened to our country.
01:43:49.520 Probably 20 million people.
01:43:52.440 And, you know, that's a little bit old, that chart.
01:43:54.900 That chart's a couple of months old.
01:43:56.440 And if you, uh, want to really see something that's said, take a look at what happened.
01:44:03.700 Whoa, whoa, whoa!
01:44:05.660 What the hell is that?
01:44:08.440 No!
01:44:09.280 Take a look at what happened.
01:44:27.920 Get down, get down, get down, get down!
01:44:34.720 What are we doing?
01:44:35.760 What are we doing?
01:44:38.480 Look, my sharp, my sharp, finger.
01:44:48.440 Where are you?
01:44:52.260 Look, turn to the spear.
01:44:53.480 To the spear!
01:44:54.680 Hold him, when you're ready.
01:44:55.780 On to you.
01:44:56.080 Ready
01:45:13.840 Shooters down
01:45:26.080 Let me get my shoes
01:45:28.080 Let me get my shoes
01:45:30.080 Let me get my shoes
01:45:32.080 Hold that in your head
01:45:34.080 So we gotta move to the cops
01:45:36.080 Let me get my shoes
01:45:38.080 Watch out
01:45:40.080 Wait
01:45:42.080 Wait
01:45:44.080 Wait
01:45:46.080 We gotta move
01:45:48.080 We gotta move
01:45:50.080 We gotta move
01:45:52.080 USA
01:45:54.080 USA
01:45:56.080 USA
01:45:58.080 USA
01:46:00.080 USA
01:46:02.080 USA
01:46:04.080 USA
01:46:06.080 USA
01:46:08.080 USA
01:46:10.080 USA
01:46:12.080 USA
01:46:14.080 USA
01:46:24.080 so the the clip now knowing that president trump was in fact shot and and knew that he had been
01:46:33.080 shot seems all that all that more courageous when he's saying you hear him to the secret
01:46:37.740 service wait wait stop taking me off stage wait i need to address the people
01:46:46.000 looks at them fight fight fight if i'm gonna die you remember you fight fight fight you don't be
01:46:55.540 demoralized you don't let them win this was it they finally took their shot at at trump
01:47:06.080 we don't know very much about the the alleged shooter we're trying to confirm some of that
01:47:14.420 information now this was going to happen this was going to happen when the sitting president
01:47:24.700 launches his campaign about how you call nazis fine people a lie when you say when the sitting
01:47:32.040 president says that you are an existential threat to the democracy and democracies on the ballot and
01:47:39.120 your your supporters are insurrectionists and when the the most prestigious liberal outlets call you
01:47:48.300 hitler say you're bringing american fascism and insinuate if not state outright that anything
01:47:55.020 would be justified to stop you this was going to happen and it did happen they took their shot
01:48:04.780 the culmination of all of that is a bullet a breath away from the president's skull it hit it hit him
01:48:14.760 in the head it hit him in his ear ripped through his ear in president trump's own words a breath away
01:48:20.500 from his skull that would have killed him this close this close uh obviously a lot of public figures
01:48:30.260 are reacting now there's a ufc fight going on president trump is uh very close with ufc he ufc
01:48:37.880 seems to support president trump so this news breaks during a ufc fight we have uh one of the fighters
01:48:43.880 reacting to it live live at this sporting event hey i heard i heard they just tried to whack my boy trump
01:48:51.820 i'm glad that man's okay long live trump let's go baby trump 2024
01:48:56.040 it's amazing reaction in the sense that you know this guy is a fighter they're at the sporting event
01:49:07.620 so it's all fun it's high energy it's entertainment and and then you get this this shocking this
01:49:12.840 horrifying news and so with the same enthusiasm and almost levity heard they tried to whack my boy
01:49:20.680 trump well i support trump and i think that's going to be the opinion of a lot of people now
01:49:26.500 the question that remains it's 8 8 17 here central time 9 17 eastern time
01:49:32.100 will president trump make a statement you know we've seen his statement from truth social
01:49:39.460 uh and it was written in very trumpian diction so i actually i believe the trump campaign which says
01:49:45.960 he's fine i i believe that that was president trump uh tweeting or posting rather on truth social
01:49:52.040 uh but the question will be will we see president trump tonight will we hear from president trump
01:49:57.180 tonight we briefly heard from president biden gave a very quick statement and said basically nothing
01:50:04.060 showed up looked to haggard and didn't have a tie on and then shuffled off the stage will we hear
01:50:11.060 from president will we hear again from the president he said we might hear president biden we might hear
01:50:14.900 again from him later tonight he issued a six sentence statement uh or more importantly will
01:50:21.500 we will we hear from president trump i think a lot of people want to be reassured that trump is okay
01:50:25.340 you see it in his own words on truth social i think most myself included most people believe that that is
01:50:30.560 him uh but if he is able i mean look the man was just shot through the ear uh will he uh speak tonight
01:50:39.060 the biden campaign has announced it will pull all tv ads against trump it's good yeah of course
01:50:44.740 um as of now this campaign is over it's over unless they succeed at murdering him which they might try to do
01:50:54.780 again
01:50:55.120 the democrats were already in in a crisis they were now they're openly talking about replacing their nominee
01:51:07.960 well but that uh that has uh that that discussion has left the news never really thought they were
01:51:17.200 going to succeed at replacing their nominee if they did it would be with kamala harris or would
01:51:20.720 would harris they were all asking would kamala harris pull better would gavin newsom pull better
01:51:25.100 against trump what well as i've been saying all night the stakes of the campaign haven't changed
01:51:31.460 but the stakes have become clearer a lot clearer to a lot of people who maybe haven't been paying
01:51:38.460 the most attention it's still early in the season you know we're still in july
01:51:42.100 still have august september october then we don't vote until november people who might start paying
01:51:49.140 attention now are going to see uh when they look at biden they're going to see a weak candidate which is
01:51:55.120 why his poll numbers have been falling and when they look at trump they're going to see a man who was
01:51:59.920 almost assassinated very very close to assassin to to having been assassinated uh we're getting
01:52:06.300 a report now that the president president trump's motorcade has just left the hospital uh so he was
01:52:12.780 treated um seems to be alive and well uh we don't know anything about his injury you know he had a bullet
01:52:25.160 fly through his ear and even after that stood up addressed the crowd it's just uh he's the new
01:52:36.520 teddy roosevelt i mean that that image i never use that word iconic or ever you know referring to icons
01:52:43.480 i think it's just so overused but that photo of trump standing there this fist up blood coming down his
01:52:52.120 faces fist up tough defiant that is utterly iconic there are a few different shots of it
01:53:01.320 that is that is iconic so we now have some footage of u.s secret service counter snipers firing back
01:53:09.740 at the alleged shooter
01:53:11.480 and you know that's a little bit old that charge that charge a couple of months old and if you
01:53:18.960 want to really see something that said take a look at what happened
01:53:22.300 so it does give you a little bit of a better picture you can see trump is hit
01:53:30.300 on his right side of his face now the u.s secret service the counter snipers are there
01:53:38.440 on the right side where are they firing it looks as though they're still firing to trump's right
01:53:44.120 they're firing back so so i suppose the shot would have come from that side still from the right side
01:53:51.600 you can see the only place where there's blood is from the right side of trump's faces
01:53:55.640 his head is turned anyway to the right that's where they get him this is this raises another point
01:54:01.720 trump's moving you know he moved he gesticulates as he speaks a lot of politicians stand totally still
01:54:08.940 had trump moved his head in just a slightly different direction he'd be dead just the little
01:54:19.460 tick of turning his head just slightly
01:54:21.200 could have saved his life we're getting a statement now from bill clinton
01:54:28.220 getting a lot of statements coming in
01:54:31.100 getting well i'm getting some some updates from our friend jeremy you know god king here at the daily
01:54:40.000 wire who's who's following as the statements coming in he observes that tim cook the ceo of apple
01:54:46.980 has made a stronger statement condemning this than than president joe biden tim cook of apple says i
01:54:55.500 pray for president trump's rapid recovery my thoughts are with him the other victims and the trump family
01:55:00.320 have strongly condemned this violence you're now getting stronger condemnation of the attempted and
01:55:07.120 very nearly successful assassination of donald trump from the from the leader of apple a technology
01:55:16.100 company than you are from the the supposed leader of the united states joe biden absolutely pathetic
01:55:24.260 disgusting displays from from much of the democrat leadership now we are getting a statement coming
01:55:34.260 from bill clinton bill clinton's come out violence has no place in america especially in our political
01:55:41.040 process hillary and i are thankful that president trump is safe heartbroken for all those affected by the
01:55:45.560 attack at today's rally in pennsylvania and grateful for the swift action of the u.s secret service
01:55:50.920 okay have we seen a statement from hillary yet or is this it this is supposed to suffice
01:55:56.620 heavens i haven't seen one at least
01:55:58.620 trump's trump's motorcade has left the hospital i i take it we have some footage of that now
01:56:08.200 you
01:56:19.560 The thing that's so striking is what a small town this is.
01:56:42.400 You know, you see two or three buildings of any size really at all.
01:56:47.460 This is a small town.
01:56:50.380 And where was he treated?
01:56:51.520 I don't think he was treated in Butler, Pennsylvania.
01:56:53.540 He's probably, I assume he was treated somewhere, maybe.
01:56:56.040 Who knows?
01:56:56.500 Who knows?
01:56:56.800 I don't have confirmation of where it was.
01:56:58.380 We know that the biggest town nearby is Pittsburgh.
01:57:00.840 But even Pittsburgh is not a really big town.
01:57:02.420 You know, this was a real rural part of Pennsylvania.
01:57:08.760 Raises all sorts of questions.
01:57:10.140 How could this have happened?
01:57:12.860 Was this a failure of the police, of Secret Service?
01:57:16.540 It would seem to be some failure occurred.
01:57:19.560 Not the guys, you know, the guys on the stage seem to have taken good care, but how does this happen?
01:57:27.020 And then we heard from a reported eyewitness who said, yeah, I saw a guy with a rifle getting up there in a building and I reported it to police.
01:57:37.460 He went on to say he reported it to Secret Service and they didn't pull Trump from the stage.
01:57:41.700 They didn't do anything about it.
01:57:43.720 Raises a lot of questions.
01:57:46.080 A lot of questions.
01:57:47.080 We are now waiting to see if President Trump himself will speak.
01:57:54.620 Obviously, he's just left the hospital.
01:57:57.380 We don't know where he's staying.
01:58:00.000 We don't know where his airplane is.
01:58:02.240 We don't know if he even plans to give a speech.
01:58:04.400 The statement we have gotten from Trump is the statement from Truth Social.
01:58:09.880 I'll pull it up here for those who are just tuning in.
01:58:13.060 It's a really, really beautiful statement.
01:58:17.220 He says, this was posted at 7.42 p.m.
01:58:22.520 That would be central time.
01:58:25.100 So not long ago.
01:58:27.380 I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all of law enforcement for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
01:58:33.120 More importantly, most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the rally who was killed and also to the family of another person who was badly injured.
01:58:40.420 We now know, or at least we're getting reports, that there have been two people who have been critically injured.
01:58:46.940 President Trump obviously did not know that or perhaps that hadn't even been reported at the time.
01:58:52.000 It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.
01:58:56.160 Nothing is known at this time about the shooter who is now dead.
01:58:59.000 I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.
01:59:02.240 I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.
01:59:11.560 Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.
01:59:15.540 God bless America.
01:59:17.460 That's the most recent statement that we're getting from Trump.
01:59:20.160 For those of you also just tuning in, we have the clip.
01:59:25.300 Take a look at what happened.
01:59:26.420 Get down, get down, get down, get down.
01:59:31.360 What are we doing?
01:59:34.940 What are we doing?
01:59:37.060 Go to court, go to court, go to court, go to court.
01:59:39.120 Move the spear.
01:59:40.120 Hold, hold.
01:59:41.120 When you're ready.
01:59:42.120 On to you.
01:59:43.120 Ready.
01:59:44.120 Move.
01:59:45.120 Go.
01:59:46.120 Go.
01:59:47.120 Go.
01:59:48.120 Go.
01:59:49.120 Go.
01:59:50.120 Go.
01:59:51.120 Go.
01:59:52.120 Go.
01:59:53.120 Go.
01:59:54.120 Go.
01:59:55.120 Go.
01:59:56.120 Go.
01:59:57.120 Go.
01:59:58.120 Go.
01:59:59.120 Go.
02:00:00.120 Go.
02:00:01.120 Go.
02:00:02.120 Go.
02:00:03.120 Go.
02:00:04.120 Go.
02:00:05.120 Go.
02:00:06.120 Go.
02:00:07.120 Shooter's down, get down.
02:00:08.120 Shooter's down.
02:00:09.120 Shooter's down.
02:00:14.120 Shooter's down.
02:00:15.120 Shooter's down.
02:00:16.120 Do we get to move.
02:00:17.120 Are we clear?
02:00:18.120 Don't, we're clear, let's move, we're clear.
02:00:25.120 Come on.
02:00:26.120 I won't the move.
02:00:27.120 Let me get my shoes.
02:00:28.120 I got my shoes on.
02:00:29.120 Let me get my shoes, hold that in your head, inte티.
02:00:31.120 So we got to move to the.
02:00:33.120 Watch out.
02:01:03.120 The last time we saw anything like this was the Reagan administration when President
02:01:28.780 Reagan was shot in DC. Jeremy reminds me, President Reagan didn't even know he'd been shot until he
02:01:35.140 was halfway to the hospital. So then when he got to the hospital, he was joking around with the
02:01:42.000 doctors and happily he survived. The other incident, a little earlier than the Reagan
02:01:48.720 assassination attempt that comes to mind, is the successful assassination attempt of RFK,
02:01:54.040 not RFK Jr., who's running for president this cycle, but his father, Robert F. Kennedy,
02:01:59.940 brother of JFK, another incident coming to mind. It's 1968, a lot of eerie similarities. 1968,
02:02:08.840 you had a man named Robert F. Kennedy running for president, and you had a very volatile
02:02:15.200 democratic convention that year, country ripping itself apart, and the Democrat presidential
02:02:24.100 candidate, Robert F. Kennedy, was murdered. Then you think, okay, this is the brother of the
02:02:30.920 president who had been murdered just years prior, John F. Kennedy. And the image is eerie. You know,
02:02:41.000 when Kennedy was assassinated, which was also televised, you saw the man have his head blown off
02:02:50.140 from some distance, obviously not a particularly secured area. And here, also from a distance,
02:02:59.360 you would have seen a recreation of Kennedy's assassination in Dallas. You would have seen
02:03:05.900 almost precisely that recreation in Butler, Pennsylvania. Had the shooter breathed a little
02:03:15.960 differently? Had he moved his arm a little differently? Had Trump moved his head a little
02:03:18.620 differently? Gesticulated a little differently at that precise point in his speech? We're now getting
02:03:23.780 the statement that I just read to you. I won't read it again. It's the same statement that came out
02:03:29.220 on Truth Social has been texted to, I don't know, I've received the text. I, you know, I've donated
02:03:37.360 to the Trump campaign. And I donated, I'm kind of a cheapskate when it comes to politicians, but I
02:03:42.920 donated after the conviction. You know, they're trying to convict President Trump of these bogus
02:03:49.740 charges in New York. They thought that's how they'd take him out of the race. I thought it was so
02:03:52.340 deeply unjust that I gave the biggest political contribution of my life. Anyway, I say that all as
02:03:57.380 preface to explain that, that as a result, I get, I get the updates from the Trump campaign via text
02:04:03.680 and, and the Trump campaign has just texted out, not, not a fundraising appeal, which is usually what
02:04:08.500 comes, comes from this account. No, no fundraising appeal anywhere here. I just all caps, this is a
02:04:14.100 message from Donald Trump. And then the statement that I just read to you from Truth Social. So I guess
02:04:21.320 this is lending a little more, uh, credence to the, the notion that Trump actually wrote this himself
02:04:28.740 from the hospital. Uh, other reasons to believe, and again, I'm not saying that no one can, can, uh,
02:04:35.060 imitate the president's diction and writing style, but the, uh, capitalizations and diction that you're,
02:04:41.900 you, we've come to expect from President Trump is what you see in the statement. I was posted to his
02:04:45.660 account on Truth Social. It now has come out to all Trump supporters who have, you know, signed up their
02:04:50.360 phones or donated. Uh, and that is to thank law enforcement, to express condolences to the family
02:04:55.920 of those who were killed and injured at his rally, to, uh, give a little update on the, to, to condemn
02:05:04.740 this, you know, as a matter of American politics, to point out that nothing's known about the shooter
02:05:09.920 and, and then to confirm that he was in fact shot. He was shot. So he knew immediately what was
02:05:16.520 happening. This would be a distinction between what happened to President Reagan when he was nearly
02:05:20.000 assassinated and, uh, and President Trump. Reagan didn't really seem to know what was happening.
02:05:25.360 Trump says he knew immediately. Makes, makes this assassination attempt closer to, to the
02:05:31.840 assassination attempt against Teddy Roosevelt back in 1912. He knew immediately what was going on.
02:05:37.060 And so having known immediately, obviously knew immediately, he reached up for his ear before the
02:05:41.240 secret service took him down. He heard the, he heard the shots. He felt his ear be partially blown
02:05:46.320 away. He felt the blood. So he obviously knew what was happening. The secret service kept him down
02:05:50.800 on the stage for a considerable amount of time. Then they finally get him up wondering, are there
02:05:57.000 more shots coming? Is there any, and sir, we've got to get you off stage. And he says, wait, wait,
02:06:01.180 wait. Turns to the crowd says, fight, fight, fight.
02:06:09.080 President's motorcade left the hospital somewhat, probably 10, 15 minutes ago now.
02:06:13.320 We're getting, uh, let's see.
02:06:21.680 We're getting a headline from deadline, a headline. This is an older from earlier, obviously in the day.
02:06:29.060 This is a, an article. I'm going to beat Trump. Defiant Biden tells donors and Jeffrey Katzenberg,
02:06:36.720 he's done talking about debate disaster will not exit the race. So this article came out,
02:06:43.300 July 8th. It is now July 13th. This July 8th came out 12, 15 PM. Biden says, and you'll see why I'm
02:06:52.340 reading this article in just a moment. I have one job and that's to beat Donald Trump. I'm absolutely
02:06:57.960 certain I'm the best person to be able to do that. Biden said to his reelection national finance
02:07:02.840 committee in what was described as a forceful presentation that sounded like the Biden that I
02:07:07.080 used to know. Having, having repeatedly said over the past week that the live face-off on CNN was
02:07:15.560 Trump with a bad night. The president of the United States today added, so we're done talking about
02:07:21.200 the debate. It's time to put Trump in a bullseye. As President Joe Biden quoted, how many days ago?
02:07:33.240 Five days ago? Five, give you a little context. Six days ago, the New Republic, one of the most
02:07:39.620 prestigious left-wing magazines, runs a cover story, American fascism, President Trump as Hitler.
02:07:46.520 And they even explain their choice of cover. And they insinuate if they don't state it outright
02:07:51.640 that they'd do anything to stop Trump in the same way that they would do anything to stop Hitler.
02:07:57.520 Doesn't just stop at TV ads. But then President Biden said a day after the New Republic aired their
02:08:07.220 now infamous cover calling Trump Hitler, President Trump tells deadline five days ago
02:08:14.460 We're done talking about the debate. It's time to put Trump in a bullseye. And then Trump gives,
02:08:23.860 or Biden rather, gives a weak nothing statement from the White House. He issues a statement almost
02:08:29.420 certainly just written by some staff, six sentences, mealy mouth, nothing. And then he showed up without
02:08:33.640 a tie, just sauntered in, said nothing. There were words coming out of his mouth, I guess. He didn't
02:08:40.380 really convey very much. Said, I tried to call Donald. I guess he's in the hospital because he got
02:08:43.640 his ear shot off by, you know, a would-be assassin. But, you know, I'll try to talk to him later
02:08:48.680 anyway. And, you know, so anyway, I'll, maybe I'll come to you later on.
02:08:53.020 The violence, the political, where did this violence come from? This political violence has
02:08:55.920 no place in America. Five days ago, he says, we're done talking about the debate. It's time to put
02:08:59.640 Trump in a bullseye. Well, they did. They did. They succeeded at that. That's one thing that Biden's
02:09:04.900 been effective at. Maybe the only thing Biden's been effective at.
02:09:07.820 It's senseless. That's what Kamala Harris said. Joe Biden, I don't understand how this could happen
02:09:14.840 in America. You don't understand. Kamala Harris, it's senseless. It's senseless? Do we have a little
02:09:20.560 retrospective on how the Democrat liberal media establishment has been discussing President
02:09:26.780 Trump? Of course, it's Trump is a Nazi time again. Let's deal with Hitler, okay? I don't think
02:09:35.200 it's hyperbolic to say that, I mean, that is Mussolini-Hitler-like language. Trump's affinity
02:09:39.660 for Hitler was always covered under an umbrella of his stupidity. Echoing Hitler's words. Listen to
02:09:46.040 this. Well, Hitler was duly elected. Echoing the hateful rhetoric of Adolf Hitler. It echoes Hitler.
02:09:54.300 That's the kind of language Hitler used in Mein Kampf. Got vermin and Hitler and Mussolini. That's a
02:10:00.660 horrifying clip. That's a fascist clip. Just going full on Hitler. From Hitler's Germany. We just need
02:10:06.100 to say for the record that the term vermin was really effectively used by Adolf Hitler. Echoed
02:10:13.400 dictators like Hitler. With language evoking authoritarian figures like Adolf Hitler. Adolf
02:10:19.780 Hitler. Donald Trump parroted the autocratic language of Adolf Hitler. Talk about the brilliance
02:10:24.880 of Hitler's generals. Correct. Let me ask you something. If you could stop Hitler, like fully
02:10:31.500 adult Hitler, had already been the leader of Germany, then let's say he got ousted for a
02:10:37.000 little and he's about to come back and you could stop Hitler, would you kill Hitler? Everyone would
02:10:43.060 kill Hitler. That's the point. In the common language, in the world of symbols we all interact
02:10:52.540 with. Hitler represents absolute evil. Hitler represents the kind of evil that justifies in
02:11:01.480 the popular consciousness anything to stop. So much so that every few years we have a debate
02:11:08.760 over whether or not you'd go back in time and kill baby Hitler. Remember, there was a moment
02:11:13.280 actually during the 2016 campaign when some joker reporters were asking about whether candidates
02:11:20.600 would kill baby Hitler. And Jeb Bush said, oh, I'd kill that baby Hitler. Then actually, Ben Shapiro
02:11:28.180 of Daily Wire fame got in trouble because he was speaking at a pro-life rally. He said, you know,
02:11:32.900 I wouldn't kill baby Hitler. I know you always want to kill Hitler, but baby Hitler is a baby and
02:11:37.080 you know, I don't think we should be killing babies. So it was kind of, it was a final coda to this
02:11:43.700 silly debate, but it's a silly debate that tells you something about our language. To call someone
02:11:48.440 Hitler is to say, you must be destroyed by any means necessary. Murdering you would be justified.
02:11:56.600 That's what it means to call someone Hitler. All of the liberals have called Trump Hitler.
02:12:03.120 The electeds, the journalists, the activists, not just the fringe ones, the tippy, tippy top,
02:12:09.580 the anchors, the heads on all the big networks, Hillary Clinton, all the big politicians,
02:12:15.500 they've all done it. And now you hear, when they make statements at all, there are more than a few
02:12:23.300 sentences. You hear vague platitudes about violence, and then you're going to hear the passing of the
02:12:30.880 buck. Oh, this is so senseless. Where would this come from? It's unthinkable.
02:12:35.680 Well, it makes a lot of sense, actually. It's hideous. The sense that it makes derives from
02:12:46.680 false premises that I reject, that sensible people reject, people who recognize Trump isn't Hitler.
02:12:53.000 But they're false premises that you have advanced. They're false premises that your followers have
02:12:59.020 followed. And now that one shooter in Pennsylvania followed to its fullest extent,
02:13:05.320 by attempting to and very nearly succeeding at killing Donald Trump. There's a statement now
02:13:14.260 from Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who says, there is no place for political violence,
02:13:21.640 including the horrific incident we just witnessed in Pennsylvania. It is absolutely unacceptable
02:13:25.760 and must be denounced in the strongest terms. My heart goes out to all the victims,
02:13:30.820 and I wish the former president a speedy recovery. You are seeing a stronger statement
02:13:36.920 being made by AOC than by the White House. Stronger statement being made by AOC, the fringe
02:13:45.280 lunatic leader of the squad, than you are seeing being made by President Joe Biden or Vice President
02:13:51.880 Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris's statement in particular was totally disgraceful, totally
02:13:57.700 disgraceful, completely unacceptable, to call it senseless. Joe Biden's wasn't much better.
02:14:08.500 I don't know if Joe Biden was awake while he was giving that statement. I can't imagine he actually
02:14:12.880 wrote it. Trump's statement was extraordinarily tactful. He didn't even get to the point
02:14:21.680 of telling people that he had been shot until more than halfway through it. He talked about the
02:14:28.560 shooting. Amazing, the way he's focusing on others. Thank you to law enforcement. Condolences to the
02:14:36.380 family of the person who was killed and those who were injured. A statement then on how awful this act
02:14:43.940 is in our country. Don't forget, this happened to him. They blew off a piece of his ear. They nearly
02:14:49.880 blew off his skull. But still, just the political statement that this could happen in our country.
02:14:56.600 Then on the shooter, shooter's dead, nothing's known. Then and only then, I was shot with a bullet
02:15:02.360 that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong. He knew it
02:15:07.740 happened. And then he concludes, God bless America. Without question, the best, most human,
02:15:13.240 most courageous statement, most politically responsible statement made by anybody so far
02:15:21.100 came from Trump. Came from Trump. Came from the guy who was shot and nearly killed.
02:15:30.120 We're not even talking about, I know this is almost frivolous to say, it's not that he was shot in his
02:15:39.100 leg. It's not that he was shot in the finger or something. He was shot in his ear. He was shot
02:15:48.700 a whisper away from them blowing this guy's brains out, okay? It was a pretty good shot. It was pretty,
02:15:58.640 pretty close. By the grace of God, didn't quite succeed, but it was as close as it possibly could
02:16:08.140 have been. To the entire world watching the leading, a former American president and the
02:16:16.640 leading candidate for president in 2024, murdered on stage. We're still waiting on confirmation
02:16:25.440 of the identity of the shooter. Other networks, I think, are irresponsible with the way they're
02:16:34.420 speaking. We're trying to be as cautious as we can and bring you only the facts.
02:16:40.660 There is some talk and rumor over who the shooter is, what his motivations might have been,
02:16:48.480 but we're still waiting on some confirmation. Fight, fight, fight. For those of you who were just
02:16:59.040 tuning in, I know that people are coming in and out. There are many people in the country who might not
02:17:03.380 even know that this has happened yet. We have footage of it. The short story is that President
02:17:10.180 Trump was addressing a crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, and during his speech, shots rang out from outside
02:17:17.180 the speech venue, outside of the security perimeter, killing one rally attendee, critically injuring at
02:17:24.480 least two others now, according to reports, and hitting the president in the ear. We have the footage.
02:17:32.220 What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing?
02:17:38.220 What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? I'm only doing this game. What are you? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? Are you doing? How are you doing? How? I'm hoping. How are you doing?
02:17:45.020 What are you doing, how are you doing? How are you doing, how are you delivering, how are you doing, how are we giving it? And how's it to be doing? How are you delivering, how are you giving it to the sky? Okay? Becoming the sky, at do it allowed us. In connection to the sky.
02:17:45.420 Hold, hold, when you're ready.
02:17:57.080 On to you.
02:17:57.700 Ready.
02:17:58.220 Move.
02:17:59.080 Move.
02:17:59.760 Go.
02:18:01.800 Hawkeye's here.
02:18:02.760 Hawkeye's here.
02:18:03.380 Move to the spare.
02:18:04.420 Spare, get ready.
02:18:05.220 Spare, get ready.
02:18:06.280 Are you ready?
02:18:06.720 Are you ready?
02:18:10.780 Are we good?
02:18:14.220 Shooter's down.
02:18:15.200 Shooter's down.
02:18:16.060 Are we good to move?
02:18:16.840 Are we clear?
02:18:18.360 Let's move.
02:18:19.760 We're clear.
02:18:23.520 Let me get my shoes.
02:18:29.620 Let me get my shoes.
02:18:30.940 I got you, sir.
02:18:31.520 I got you, sir.
02:18:32.080 Let me get my shoes, sir.
02:18:33.280 Hold that in your head.
02:18:34.760 Sir, we've got to move to the bus.
02:18:37.540 Let me get my shoes.
02:18:38.900 Okay.
02:18:39.380 Watch out.
02:18:40.260 Watch out.
02:18:41.540 Watch out.
02:18:42.640 Wait, wait, wait, wait.
02:18:49.880 Wait, wait, wait.
02:18:54.500 USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA, USA
02:19:24.500 Law enforcement has told CBS News that the alleged shooter was firing from about 200 to 300 yards away.
02:19:35.760 So we're talking about a football field away from Trump on the stage.
02:19:38.940 He was not within the security perimeter, but it's raising all sorts of questions.
02:19:42.420 How did the police headed Secret Service not spot this, not stop this?
02:19:48.060 This was a, this is a small town, you know, this is a town of about 12,000 people when there isn't a rally going on.
02:19:54.500 Now, there are going to be a lot of questions for the Secret Service, a lot of questions for police coming up, especially on top of reports.
02:20:06.380 The Federalist is reporting that the Trump campaign has been asking for increased protection in recent weeks.
02:20:13.880 So who do they ask for that?
02:20:15.860 Trump, as a former president, is entitled to Secret Service protection.
02:20:18.860 He's the nominee of the Republican Party, so they should probably boost his Secret Service a little bit.
02:20:22.620 But in recent weeks, with the collapse of the Biden campaign, with the crisis in the Democrat Party, calls for a new nominee, the disastrous debate for Biden, Trump's continued elevation in the polls, obviously things are getting a little bit more perilous for Trump.
02:20:37.800 Everything that his opponents have tried to do to stop him from becoming the next president have failed.
02:20:43.960 So some of us have observed that the only thing left for them to do is to kill him.
02:20:48.340 It doesn't take a brain surgeon, doesn't take a genius to understand that this could have happened, especially while the Democrats are saying Trump poses an existential threat to democracy, and Trump is the next Hitler, and insinuating that they could take him out by any means necessary.
02:21:04.220 So at this perilous moment, according to this report from the Federalist, the Trump campaign asks for more Secret Service.
02:21:14.600 Well, that means they have to ask the Department of Homeland Security.
02:21:17.580 Department of Homeland Security is run by Alejandro Mayorkas for Joe Biden.
02:21:22.140 So if that report is accurate, there are going to be a lot of questions.
02:21:28.220 Did the Biden administration intentionally deprive President Trump of Secret Service, of security, at a time when his life was in danger?
02:21:40.200 You couple that with Joe Biden, his entire administration melting down five days ago, then speaking to donors, saying it's a little spooky.
02:21:52.240 One of my lights just went out, and with everything that's going on, it gives you a little startle, doesn't it?
02:21:57.160 Joe Biden talking to Deadline just five days ago, saying it's time to put Trump in a bullseye.
02:22:06.600 His words, not mine, being reported by Deadline.
02:22:08.760 It's not exactly a right-wing outlet.
02:22:10.880 It's a Hollywood outlet.
02:22:12.500 Five days ago.
02:22:14.100 One day after the new republic calls Trump Hitler, American fascism, you know, we've got to fight, fight, fight.
02:22:19.860 Not fight, fight, fight a defense.
02:22:21.520 Fight, fight, fight on offense.
02:22:24.040 Take this man out, insinuating by any means necessary.
02:22:27.500 Now, according to Philip Wegman, senior advisor for the Trump campaign, is telling him that Trump remains, quote, in a very good mood.
02:22:36.360 That he is resolved to continue this convention, and that there are no plans to deviate on anything that was planned.
02:22:45.340 Beautiful.
02:22:45.700 To be expected, of course, from President Trump, the man who, after being shot in the ear, stands up, blood coming down his face, tells Secret Service, no, wait, I'm not leaving.
02:22:57.520 He puts his hand up in the ear to lead, tell people it's okay for these.
02:23:03.140 It might be his last words, telling them to fight on.
02:23:05.000 Of course, he's saying that keep the convention going, because this is the context that a lot of people are not aware of.
02:23:11.580 The Republican National Convention is set to kick off, in earnest, in about, I don't know, at this point, what, 25 hours or something?
02:23:21.020 28, 29 hours?
02:23:23.660 I'm going to be there.
02:23:26.060 Assuming the convention goes on, and we're getting word from Philip Wegman, who's a good reporter, who's talking to the Trump campaign, saying things are going on as planned.
02:23:35.740 So I guess it's going on as planned.
02:23:37.040 I guess I'll be there.
02:23:40.440 For those of you who have not seen it, and are just tuning in now, here's the video.
02:23:46.480 Here's what happened in Pennsylvania.
02:23:49.660 Take a look at what happened.
02:23:50.800 Go, go.
02:23:52.520 Get down, get down, get down, get down.
02:23:58.200 What are we doing?
02:23:59.360 What are we doing?
02:24:01.320 Go, go, go, go, go, go.
02:24:03.500 Go, go, go, go, go.
02:24:15.880 Move the spear.
02:24:16.880 Hold it, hold it.
02:24:18.220 You ready?
02:24:18.640 On you.
02:24:19.340 Ready?
02:24:19.840 Move.
02:24:20.700 Move.
02:24:21.180 Go.
02:24:22.260 Oh, guys here.
02:24:24.240 Here, move the spear.
02:24:25.920 Get ready.
02:24:26.860 Get ready.
02:24:27.840 You ready?
02:24:28.300 Are we good?
02:24:36.800 Shooter's down.
02:24:37.640 Are we good to move?
02:24:39.820 Let's move.
02:24:41.360 We're clear.
02:24:48.500 Let me get my shoes.
02:24:51.240 Let me get my shoes.
02:24:52.560 I got you.
02:24:53.580 Let me get my shoes.
02:24:54.840 Hold on.
02:24:55.300 Your head is bloody.
02:24:56.560 Sir, we got to move to the clutch.
02:24:59.260 Let me get my shoes.
02:25:00.440 Okay.
02:25:00.960 Watch myOOM.
02:25:01.760 Come on.
02:25:02.180 Let's shoot.
02:25:03.220 Watch out.
02:25:05.260 Wait, wait.
02:25:08.640 USA!
02:25:26.520 USA!
02:25:26.840 USA!
02:25:27.240 USA!
02:25:27.320 Many more questions than answers that we have right now.
02:25:53.400 We do not have confirmation on the shooter's identity, on his motivations, on what happens now.
02:26:04.760 President Biden said that he might speak to Trump.
02:26:07.580 He might come back later.
02:26:08.760 We just don't know.
02:26:10.100 President Trump has issued a statement.
02:26:12.180 I suspect this will be his statement for the night.
02:26:14.860 The fact that this was posted by him to Truth Social, that it was texted out to his supporters, myself included.
02:26:25.560 The fact that it's now approaching 10 o'clock Eastern time.
02:26:28.060 And we don't have any indication that President Trump is going to be addressing anyone tonight.
02:26:33.520 I mean, presumably, he's still suffering injuries from having been shot in the year and very nearly assassinated.
02:26:41.440 What we do know, President Trump has been shot.
02:26:47.060 He is stable.
02:26:49.320 He is alive.
02:26:50.440 One rally-goer, one supporter of his, has been killed.
02:26:57.020 He's been murdered.
02:26:58.980 At least two are in critical condition.
02:27:01.000 We know that this has occurred after weeks and weeks and months and months of calling Trump Hitler, of saying he's a threat, not just to this policy or that policy, but to our very democracy.
02:27:19.340 This was the theme of the Biden campaign.
02:27:22.700 We're told he's like Hitler and anything would be justified to take him down.
02:27:26.460 That's the setup.
02:27:32.380 And so this conclusion, for those of us who've been paying any attention, for anyone with even a modicum of common sense, this was, of course, going to be the conclusion.
02:27:41.260 Lots of questions for Secret Service.
02:27:43.320 Lots of questions for Joe Biden.
02:27:46.040 For the irresponsibility of his rhetoric.
02:27:48.100 For his campaign as it stands right now.
02:27:49.780 Now, as for President Trump, an amazing, an amazing display of political courage, personal courage and political courage, an amazing display.
02:27:58.300 I've never seen anything like it.
02:28:00.520 To be shot that close to your skull.
02:28:06.300 To be shot in the head, that close to your skull.
02:28:07.860 To go down, to get up, to know you've been shot.
02:28:10.020 To say, wait, to your Secret Service says, you're waiting.
02:28:12.100 You don't know if another bullet is going to come.
02:28:14.480 Look at the crowd.
02:28:15.740 These could be his last words.
02:28:16.840 Fight, fight, fight.
02:28:20.660 To be taken away, to give a statement, to reassure people.
02:28:26.940 To focus first on others.
02:28:31.200 And the most important thing to say is to thank God that this wasn't worse.
02:28:39.380 This could have been, as awful as this was, this could have been much, much worse.
02:28:43.520 It could have, by the grace of God, one little turn of the head, one little breath, one little hair turn from the shooter.
02:28:57.020 One, his heart beating a little differently when he pulled the trigger.
02:28:59.840 President Trump, it wouldn't have hit the ear, would have gone half a centimeter over.
02:29:07.060 And the country would look very, very different.
02:29:09.300 It does look different now.
02:29:11.380 Or rather, I should say, it looks clearer.
02:29:14.260 The stakes of the election, clearer.
02:29:15.720 However, that's all for me for tonight.
02:29:19.420 If anything dramatically changes over the next hour or two that's left in this evening, I'll address it.
02:29:28.200 And I'm sure everyone will be addressing it.
02:29:30.140 But one suspects that this story continues tomorrow, and especially on Monday, with the beginning of the Republican National Convention.
02:29:37.700 For a Republican Party that, for now, despite the best efforts of this shooter, still has its nominee.
02:29:44.720 We still have our former president.
02:29:46.120 We still have, I hope, God willing, our future president.
02:29:48.280 I'm Michael Knowles for The Daily Wire.
02:29:50.880 See you on Monday.
02:29:51.300 We'll see you on Monday.
02:30:21.300 We'll see you on Monday.
