00:00:30.000 It is now four days since the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade.
00:00:35.500 There has been a flurry of commentary.
00:00:38.220 You may recall that my show had already aired by the time the decision came down on Friday.
00:00:43.060 I was on an airplane.
00:00:44.320 I rushed to the studio right after I landed and gave my breakdown of the ruling.
00:00:49.060 I certainly was not the only one.
00:00:51.400 There has been a flurry of commentary around the decision.
00:00:56.020 But in a matter of just a few days, I have found it.
00:01:01.020 I have found the single worst reaction to the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs to overrule Roe v. Wade.
00:01:09.120 Brought to you by CNN's Anna Navarro.
00:01:12.420 I have not anybody to tell you what you need to do with your life or with your uterus.
00:01:17.960 And because I have a family with a lot of special needs kids.
00:01:21.580 I have a brother who's 57 and has the mental and motor skills of a one-year-old.
00:01:26.580 And I know what that means financially, emotionally, physically for a family.
00:01:32.460 And I know not all families can do it.
00:01:34.620 And I have a step-granddaughter who was born with Down syndrome.
00:01:38.360 And you know what?
00:01:39.180 It is very difficult in Florida to get services.
00:01:42.540 It is not as easy as it sounds on paper.
00:01:45.120 And I've got another, another step-grandson who is very autistic, who has autism.
00:01:52.320 And it is incredible.
00:01:53.560 And their mothers and people who are in that society, who are in that community,
00:01:58.720 will tell you that they've considered suicide.
00:02:01.020 Because that's how difficult it is to get help.
00:02:04.380 Because that's how lonely they feel.
00:02:06.000 Because they can't get other jobs.
00:02:07.980 Because they have financial issues.
00:02:09.760 Because the care that they're able to give their other children suffers.
00:02:13.400 The Supreme Court's ruling is bad, you see, according to Anna Navarro.
00:02:18.600 Because now it won't be as easy to kill people with mental disabilities.
00:02:22.940 And she's not even speaking in the abstract.
00:02:25.120 She's speaking of her own family.
00:02:26.740 She's saying, you know, I have this brother who's got mental disabilities.
00:02:30.060 I have step-grandchildren with mental disabilities.
00:02:33.420 And they're alive.
00:02:35.220 And that's horrible.
00:02:36.240 It's so annoying that they're alive.
00:02:37.720 If they were dead, our lives would be so much better.
00:02:39.780 That's what she's saying.
00:02:41.840 Congratulations, Anna.
00:02:43.400 You managed to beat out Joe Biden and AOC and a whole host of other contenders,
00:02:49.420 whose opinions were also ignorant and evil, but not quite so obviously so.
00:02:55.580 I'm Michael Knowles.
00:02:56.480 This is The Michael Knowles Show.
00:03:05.040 Welcome back to the show.
00:03:06.280 Well, my favorite comment on Friday is from Ryu, who says, I hate to take a page out of the left's playbook.
00:03:12.020 But this is a wonderful first step.
00:03:15.780 We have a long way to go.
00:03:17.520 I'd love to take a page out of the left's playbook.
00:03:20.700 Not on the substance of what they want, obviously.
00:03:23.020 But in terms of procedure, those guys are pretty clever.
00:03:26.100 You know, they've figured out political tactics pretty well.
00:03:28.900 And they were extremely successful for, I don't know, the last 60 years or so.
00:03:34.020 So, yeah, let's take that page out, baby.
00:03:35.800 The Roe v. Wade decision, or rather the Dobbs decision to overrule Roe v. Wade, wonderful, excellent,
00:03:42.420 really the most wonderful political event of my lifetime.
00:03:45.460 Most of all, a good first step.
00:03:48.120 That Anna Navarro reaction is so hideous.
00:03:52.940 It's one of the worst things I've ever heard in political commentary.
00:03:59.340 Not just that we should kill certain people, but we should kill extremely vulnerable people.
00:04:05.100 Not just that we should kill extremely vulnerable people,
00:04:07.180 we should kill extremely vulnerable members of our own family
00:04:10.140 because sometimes they might seem a little inconvenient to us.
00:04:14.880 Her opinion is not an outlier.
00:04:17.500 It's not unique.
00:04:19.800 The left has been talking about this for years.
00:04:21.620 They just usually have the sense to speak a little more euphemistically than Anna Navarro is.
00:04:27.200 Fortunately, because she's not as intelligent as the rest of the left,
00:04:31.080 she says the quiet part out loud.
00:04:33.120 But Iceland was bragging about this a few years ago.
00:04:36.000 There was a big headline out of Iceland,
00:04:38.120 breaking Iceland eradicates Down syndrome.
00:04:41.840 There's no cure to Down syndrome.
00:04:43.840 They didn't eradicate it in the sense of curing people who have it.
00:04:46.340 They just now kill every single person, just about, who has Down syndrome in Iceland.
00:04:51.160 So they can say it's eradicated because you're committing genocide.
00:04:54.580 That's the eradication.
00:04:56.800 Not something exactly that you should be proud of.
00:05:00.560 And you see it when you go into a doctor's office.
00:05:02.760 When a woman becomes pregnant and you go see the obstetrician,
00:05:07.880 you will be asked if you want to have certain genetic tests.
00:05:13.080 And you say, well, why would we have these tests done?
00:05:16.000 They say, well, look, the tests are done so that you can find out any abnormalities.
00:05:20.280 If anything might be wrong, you're going to test for Down syndrome.
00:05:22.940 And then we can figure out how to proceed.
00:05:26.080 What are we going to figure out?
00:05:28.060 Oh, you know, then we'll just kind of make a decision on how you,
00:05:30.780 what decision you want to, oh, you're asking me
00:05:32.780 if I want to kill my kid because he's retarded.
00:05:35.160 That's what you're saying.
00:05:35.900 You're saying, we're going to do a test and we're going to find out if the kid is retarded.
00:05:39.340 And then we're going to suggest that you kill him.
00:05:42.240 And you know, the craziest part is it's, it's more politically incorrect.
00:05:47.260 It is more socially unacceptable to say the word retarded than it is to kill a retarded person.
00:05:52.980 Killing a retarded person, totally fine, totally encouraged, promoted.
00:05:57.820 They're whining on CNN because you're not allowed to do it.
00:06:00.820 But you can't say the word.
00:06:03.100 Don't you know, you have to watch your language while you're killing people.
00:06:06.800 Does that make a lot of sense?
00:06:07.780 I don't think so.
00:06:08.900 Joe Biden is saying practically the same thing,
00:06:11.280 not with regard to people who have mental disabilities,
00:06:13.460 but with regard to the poor.
00:06:15.680 He tweeted out, quote, the cruel truth is that overturning Roe
00:06:20.020 will hit poor women and girls the hardest.
00:06:23.880 That's the cruel truth.
00:06:24.880 What is cruel about that?
00:06:27.280 Oh, you're saying it is cruel that now we won't be able to kill the poor.
00:06:35.000 Poor women, women who don't have a lot of money,
00:06:38.440 now will find it a little bit more difficult in certain states to kill their children.
00:06:44.620 And this is really cruel and terrible because now we're going to have more poor people
00:06:48.480 and we're going to have to deal with them.
00:06:49.620 And isn't that annoying?
00:06:52.540 I mean, this is Jonathan Swift level stuff.
00:06:55.300 This is eat the Irish babies because we don't want them around kind of stuff.
00:06:59.420 It's not coming even from some lunatic on CNN.
00:07:02.240 That's coming from the president of the United States.
00:07:04.340 The takes on the Roe overruling have been, from the left, have been almost uniformly evil.
00:07:12.420 But when they're not evil, they are extremely stupid.
00:07:16.200 And this is where we have to turn to AOC.
00:07:19.140 AOC says that the Supreme Court sending the issue of abortion back to the states
00:07:25.640 and the people and the people's representatives represents a crisis of democracy.
00:07:32.600 What I believe that the president and the Democratic Party needs to come to terms with
00:07:37.120 is that this is not just a crisis of Roe.
00:07:39.600 This is a crisis of our democracy.
00:07:41.800 The Supreme Court has dramatically overreached its authority.
00:07:46.420 We had two conservative senators in the United States Senate, Senator Manchin and Senator Collins,
00:07:53.520 come out with a very explosive allegation that several Supreme Court justices misled them
00:08:01.700 during their confirmation hearings and in the lead up to their confirmation.
00:08:06.760 This is a crisis of legitimacy.
00:08:09.380 We have a Supreme Court justice whose wife participated in January 6th
00:08:14.460 and who used his seat to vote against providing documents that potentially led to evidence of such
00:08:21.240 to investigators in Congress.
00:08:24.180 This is a crisis of legitimacy and President Biden must address that.
00:08:29.100 Absolute crisis of legitimacy, crisis of democracy.
00:08:34.080 What's the crisis?
00:08:36.020 What's the crisis?
00:08:37.300 AOC at the end there, you hear she's going after Clarence Thomas and his wife Ginny,
00:08:41.080 which the libs have been doing for decades because Ginny is a conservative political activist.
00:08:46.040 And so they find, and they've been going after Clarence Thomas since before he was confirmed.
00:08:51.300 The larger claim that they're making here is that the conservative justices misled people
00:08:57.220 and this therefore creates a great crisis for our democracy.
00:09:02.960 The Dobbs decision is very possibly the most pro-democracy decision that we have ever had
00:09:09.780 in the history of the court.
00:09:11.460 The Dobbs decision represents one branch of government, the judiciary, giving away an issue,
00:09:19.200 sending an issue back to where it had existed for all of American history until 1973,
00:09:25.160 namely to the legislatures, to the democracy.
00:09:29.420 It's a crisis of democracy.
00:09:31.240 How is it a crisis of democracy when the people get more of a say on a political issue?
00:09:36.260 That, of course, is not a crisis of democracy.
00:09:39.160 That's an expansion of democracy.
00:09:41.320 But it just reminds you that when the libs talk about democracy, they don't really mean democracy.
00:09:46.760 This is how it can be the case that when more people vote for Donald Trump than vote for Hillary
00:09:52.240 Clinton in the states where it matters, where the electoral college plays a role also in this
00:09:57.360 election, where the democratic process favors Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton, that's a crisis of
00:10:06.600 democracy.
00:10:07.880 How?
00:10:08.760 He won the people.
00:10:10.240 Yeah, but we didn't get the outcome we wanted.
00:10:14.020 When more people in Hungary vote for the right-wing candidate, Viktor Orban,
00:10:18.320 than vote for the left-wing candidate, that's a crisis of democracy.
00:10:21.180 Democracy is in peril.
00:10:23.260 How's that?
00:10:23.920 That's just manifestly absurd.
00:10:26.040 Well, it's the case because when they say democracy, they don't mean democracy.
00:10:30.440 They mean liberalism.
00:10:31.540 They mean leftism.
00:10:32.520 They mean progressivism.
00:10:33.760 They mean whatever policy agenda they want.
00:10:36.120 They can't lose legitimately.
00:10:38.220 So whenever they do lose, it has to be a crisis of legitimacy.
00:10:43.840 Because for the progressive left, progress is clear.
00:10:47.300 They're on the right side of history.
00:10:48.840 The arc of history bends toward AOC or whatever.
00:10:51.060 And so whenever anything interrupts that march toward utopia, that march inevitably toward progress,
00:10:58.700 then it has to be a stolen election.
00:11:02.120 It has to be the Russians interfering.
00:11:04.280 It has to be hanging chads in Florida.
00:11:07.520 It has to be anything other than what it obviously is in this case and beyond,
00:11:15.940 which is that the people don't exactly like what the libs are doing.
00:11:20.560 We've got to protect our country.
00:11:22.020 We've got to protect our homes.
00:11:23.340 That's why you've got to check out Ring.
00:11:24.880 Right now, go to ring.com slash Knowles.
00:11:27.300 It's summer and people are traveling.
00:11:29.360 You know, I've been on the road for the past week.
00:11:31.100 I was in LA, Santa Barbara.
00:11:32.880 I was in Chicago.
00:11:34.020 I was all over the place, okay?
00:11:36.720 And when I'm on the road, I can feel safe because of Ring.
00:11:41.720 You know Ring.
00:11:42.860 You're going to say, Ring, the video doorbell company?
00:11:44.540 Yes, they have an amazing video doorbell where you can see and speak to whoever's at your door,
00:11:48.420 wherever you are, in the house, outside the house, wherever.
00:11:51.100 You know they've got an alarm.
00:11:52.400 So they've got Ring alarm that protects your doors and your windows and your whole physical home
00:11:56.420 from freeze, fire, flood, and the bad guys.
00:11:59.380 Now you've got to go pro.
00:12:00.440 Be like me, okay?
00:12:01.460 Become a pro.
00:12:02.560 CNET calls Ring Alarm Pro a giant leap for home security.
00:12:08.140 It is this amazing, award-winning alarm that protects not just your physical home,
00:12:13.640 but your digital home too.
00:12:14.880 It protects everything, whether you're in the home, whether you're away from the home.
00:12:18.620 You're just going to feel safe.
00:12:20.140 The cost is unbelievably low compared to the other guys.
00:12:24.060 You may not have known it, but it is true.
00:12:26.820 Ring has that award-winning alarm this busy summer season
00:12:29.760 to protect all of our homes.
00:12:31.760 You've got to go pro with Ring Alarm Pro.
00:12:33.960 Go to ring.com slash Knowles, ring.com slash Knowles.
00:12:38.860 AOC claims that the justices misled the Senate.
00:12:43.680 She goes even further.
00:12:44.620 If we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under oath and secure lifetime appointments to the
00:12:57.260 highest court of the land and then issue, issue without basis, if you read these opinions,
00:13:03.520 issue without basis rulings that deeply undermine the human and civil rights of the majority of
00:13:11.660 Americans, we must see that through.
00:13:15.520 There must be consequences for such a deeply destabilizing action and hostile takeover of
00:13:23.320 our democratic institutions.
00:13:25.100 To allow that to stand is to allow it to happen.
00:13:28.720 And what makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees
00:13:36.060 that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate in order to secure
00:13:42.320 Supreme Court confirmations and seats on the Supreme Court.
00:13:47.520 There is so much that is funny in that babble that she just spewed out there.
00:13:52.400 To allow that to stand is to allow that to happen.
00:13:57.160 And if, and you can tell she's just ripped, if, if, if you read the decision and in the,
00:14:04.360 and to say the things in the decision that frankly, without basis, no, she doesn't cite any examples,
00:14:10.840 of course, because I highly doubt she has even read the decision because it's over 200 pages and
00:14:16.660 there aren't pictures, you know, it's not a coloring book.
00:14:19.860 So she hasn't, hasn't probably made it through.
00:14:21.920 We went through the decision on Friday when I did my bonus show, because it's an extraordinarily
00:14:27.600 interesting opinion.
00:14:30.060 You've got the opinion of the court, which is they're going to uphold the pro-life law
00:14:33.680 and they're going to overrule Roe versus Wade and Casey.
00:14:36.920 And they say that the constitution doesn't say anything about an abortion.
00:14:41.140 And so it goes back to the States.
00:14:42.640 You've got the Roberts concurring opinion, which says we're going to uphold the pro-life law,
00:14:47.180 but we're not, I wish we weren't going to overrule Roe and Casey.
00:14:50.020 You've got Kavanaugh who says we're going to uphold the pro-life law.
00:14:52.580 We're going to overrule Roe and Casey.
00:14:53.940 We are not going to make any decisions about abortion.
00:14:57.820 So Kavanaugh is agreeing entirely with the opinion of the court, but he's going even further
00:15:03.500 to AOC's point.
00:15:04.520 She says that this represents a takeover of our democratic institutions.
00:15:08.340 Kavanaugh says exactly the opposite.
00:15:09.680 He says, no, no, no, we are expanding democracy here.
00:15:12.400 We are not taking anything.
00:15:13.960 We are giving away a power that the court illegitimately usurped in 1973 to make a decision on abortion.
00:15:19.700 We have no decision on abortion.
00:15:22.040 We are only sending this back to the people and the people's representatives.
00:15:26.980 And then you had Justice Thomas's concurrence, which was the best part of the entire opinion,
00:15:31.960 as far as I'm concerned, at least in terms of its legal logic, which pointed out that actually,
00:15:38.200 although the court is trying to make a big point of how the reasoning in this case is not going to
00:15:45.040 threaten cases like Griswold, cases like Lawrence v. Texas, cases like Obergefell, cases on condoms,
00:15:51.600 on gay sex, on gay marriage, on all of these rights that were discovered somewhere in the
00:15:55.900 Constitution.
00:15:56.540 Who knew there was a right to condoms in the Constitution?
00:15:58.680 Probably not James Madison, probably not the founding fathers and the framers.
00:16:03.700 Thomas goes even further.
00:16:04.920 He says, actually, we should revisit these questions, even if we want to have condoms and
00:16:09.960 gay sex and redefine marriage, and you might want to do all of those things. That's neither here nor
00:16:15.280 there. We just want to point out, it's not in the Constitution. It's not there. No one seriously
00:16:21.020 believes that this radical definition of marriage that hasn't existed beyond five minutes ago,
00:16:27.120 that that was present in the Constitution in the 1780s and 90s. We just know it's not there.
00:16:34.380 Show me the invisible ink. I haven't been able to see it yet. So she makes that. It's a little bit
00:16:39.720 of a digression. She makes all these points. If you read the liberal dissent, there's really no
00:16:44.920 argument there. The liberal dissent, the nearest thing to a legal argument is that because of
00:16:52.200 stare decisis, because of the principle that rulings and precedents should just persist even if
00:16:58.700 they weren't argued all that convincingly, that was pretty much it. And the second part of the
00:17:04.400 dissent is that if you get rid of Roe v. Wade, you're going to get rid of all these other things
00:17:09.100 that liberals like. But they didn't really make arguments from the Constitution. They didn't
00:17:13.220 really make any argument that Roe was rightly decided because no one thinks Roe was rightly
00:17:17.000 decided. Frankly, Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought that the logic of the Roe v. Wade decision was
00:17:23.440 ridiculous. She liked the outcome of the decision, but she didn't agree with the legal argument.
00:17:28.380 So AOC babbling, babbling, babbling. And then there's the cherry on top, which is,
00:17:32.400 she says that the justices lied. You're going to hear this so much from the left over the
00:17:38.340 next few days. Barrett and Kavanaugh and Gorsuch and Alito, they lied before Congress, before
00:17:45.660 the Senate when they were being confirmed. Why? Because they said that Roe was precedent,
00:17:52.040 that Roe was settled law. Here is exactly what the justices said. Alito, Roe v. Wade
00:17:58.160 is an important precedent of the Supreme Court. Gorsuch, that's the law of the land. I accept
00:18:02.860 the law of the land. Kavanaugh, it's settled as a precedent of the Supreme Court. Barrett,
00:18:07.220 Roe v. Wade clearly held that the Constitution protected a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy.
00:18:13.180 AOC says those are lies because they voted to overrule it. Not a single word there is a lie.
00:18:20.800 Okay. Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett, they didn't say anything that wasn't true.
00:18:28.100 Roe v. Wade was an important precedent met by the Supreme Court. Roe v. Wade was the law of the land.
00:18:35.520 Roe v. Wade did clearly hold that a woman has a right to an abortion. That was all true then.
00:18:42.400 That is not true now. And it's not true because now we've got a new precedent. And I cannot wait
00:18:49.940 for the next, well, I can wait. I want to wait a long time for the next liberal Supreme Court justice.
00:18:55.720 But once the next liberal Supreme Court justice is selected and goes through the confirmation process,
00:19:02.860 I cannot wait for the Republicans to grill that justice. Say, all right, Justice so-and-so,
00:19:07.680 Justice Ocasio-Cortez, all right, potential future judge Ocasio-Cortez, do you accept that
00:19:15.440 Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization is the law of the land? And just wait to hear what
00:19:20.880 they say. Because probably what the liberal judge is going to have to do is the exact sort of verbal
00:19:26.020 tricks that the conservative justices did. It's not even really a trick. They're saying, yes,
00:19:29.760 this is precedent. Everyone knows what that means. But now we've got a new precedent. Now we've got a new
00:19:35.920 law of the land and it happens to be the correct one. So once AOC makes these claims, it's not just
00:19:42.520 her, it's Biden. It's all these people are really, really furious over the Dobbs decision. The Democrats
00:19:48.560 in Congress decided to take a break from investigating an insurrection. You know, January, January 6th,
00:19:54.280 the worst insurrection ever in history. They decided to take a break from that to incite an insurrection.
00:20:00.860 AOC comes out, she says, this is illegitimate and we need to get into the streets.
00:20:06.320 Illegitimate!
00:20:20.960 Both of those phrases are calls to insurrection. She's saying illegitimate. She's saying the
00:20:33.380 government is illegitimate. If that is not a pretext for an insurrection, I don't know what
00:20:40.060 is. And then she says, into the streets. If you had scripted this and said, hey,
00:20:44.980 what is the pithiest way to call for an insurrection, since we're all talking about
00:20:48.980 insurrections, and that's what you would say. Say the government is illegitimate,
00:20:52.040 take to the streets. Now, I know AOC was supposed to be investigating this insurrection, but
00:20:58.000 she took a little break, not just her. Maxine Waters, who's always known for her extremely
00:21:03.960 dangerous rhetoric, she comes out and she says, we need to defy the court.
00:21:08.780 You see this turnout here? You ain't seen nothing yet. Women are going to control their bodies,
00:21:16.660 no matter how they try and stop us. To hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them.
00:21:22.920 Women will be in control of their bodies. And if they think black women are intimidated
00:21:29.000 or afraid, they got another thought coming. Black women will be out in droves. We will be out by the
00:21:36.180 thousands. We will be out by the millions. We're going to make sure we fight for the right to
00:21:42.180 control our own bodies. Thank you. To hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them.
00:21:47.160 That's what Maxine Waters is saying. On January 6th, the worst day in history,
00:21:53.280 there were activists who said, they didn't even say the hell with Congress, we will defy them.
00:22:00.200 They said, we are going to challenge the electoral count because of the weird way in which this
00:22:05.860 election was conducted. And then, you know, and then obviously some people got excited and they
00:22:09.740 went into the Capitol and some of them broke in and some of them were let in by the police and some
00:22:13.380 were just followed in and it was, it was a strange situation. Maxine Waters is going further than
00:22:21.220 those people did. Maxine Waters is saying, we will defy a co-equal branch of government
00:22:26.760 to hell with the co-equal branch of government. It's not legitimate. We're going to go,
00:22:31.400 we're going to defy them. We're going to take to the streets. Sounds sort of like an insurrection
00:22:36.040 to me. June has been one of the biggest months in the history of our country. One of the best
00:22:42.380 months in the history of our country. Best pride month ever, by the way. It's also been one of the
00:22:46.560 biggest months in Daily Wire history and we still have a week to go. We had What is a Woman? Matt's
00:22:51.320 documentary. It's got a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, over 5,000 ratings. We had the book,
00:22:57.680 the follow-up book, What is a Woman? National Best Seller. We had the premiere of our blockbuster
00:23:02.640 movie of the summer, Terror on the Prairie, starring Gina Carano. And now, this week, on Wednesday,
00:23:09.080 June 29th at 8 p.m. Eastern, we will be backstage. We will be backstage live at the Ryman. You will
00:23:16.760 see your favorite Daily Wire host and the other ones too. You'll see me, I'll be there. And then
00:23:21.500 all the other guys, like you've never seen us before, taking on the cultural and political
00:23:26.400 topics of the day. Describing what Backstage Live is like does not do it justice. Take a look.
00:23:32.080 Welcome to the Daily Wire backstage live at the famous Ryman Auditorium.
00:23:37.720 It was amazing. We were in the presence of greatness.
00:23:40.760 The energy of having everyone on the same page was amazing.
00:23:44.140 If your family member is still waiting for Fauci to give them permission to leave their house,
00:23:49.140 it might be time to cut that off.
00:23:51.060 I'm actually pretty excited to meet all of them. I love everybody's opinion individually.
00:23:54.660 I don't have a favorite. I like them all.
00:23:56.300 I found out a way to make football players cry in high school. My high school experience had been a lot.
00:24:02.360 I'm just excited to be here and be surrounded by like-minded people and to just, you know,
00:24:07.380 feel that energy. Who should we remove from office? One politician. The most powerful politician
00:24:12.480 in the country. Dr. Fauci. What are you talking about? We're doing culture here. I'm so thrilled
00:24:17.660 to see this happening. If they say to half of the country, you can't, that half of the country needs
00:24:22.220 to say, screw you, we will. Backstage Live happens right here in Nashville on June 29th. Get your tickets now.
00:24:28.980 Tune into Backstage Live at the Ryman this Wednesday, June 29th, 8 p.m. Eastern. Become

00:24:46.320 Anxious about choosing between a fixed or variable rate mortgage? We can help request a calming call
00:25:05.280 with TD Mortgage Direct and say hello to good advice.
00:25:12.880 The takes on the Dobbs decision have been mostly terrible. Certainly from the left,
00:25:20.120 they've been terrible. From the right, they've been generally good. A little bit of a mixed bag,
00:25:25.580 though. A little bit of a mixed bag. Depending on how you define right and left, it's not just the far
00:25:31.060 left liberals who are, who are rending their garments and gnashing their teeth.
00:25:38.940 Barstool Sports, the Stool Presidente, Dave Portnoy, after the decision came down,
00:25:45.100 he took to social media to lambast the judges for overruling Roe v. Wade.
00:25:51.920 Okay, emergency press conference. Roe v. Wade just got overturned. Let me start by saying this is a
00:25:57.560 Dave Portnoy press conference. This doesn't reflect Barstool, all right? Barstool has 300
00:26:01.600 whatever people. They all may think certain ways. This is just me, how I feel. I feel like I have to
00:26:06.940 speak on this issue. I already talked about it a little bit. To me, this is just pure insanity.
00:26:12.300 Pure insanity. We are going backwards in time. We are literally going backwards in time. It makes no
00:26:18.780 sense how anybody thinks it's their right to tell a woman what to do with her body. I just don't get it.
00:26:24.780 To take away the ability to make informed decisions on how they want to live their lives
00:26:28.820 is bananas. I honestly believe 95% of the people in the country think like me. They're socially
00:26:37.280 liberal and they're financially conservative. They like 90% of what Republicans, they don't like the
00:26:42.820 woke culture, all this craziness. But then you look at what they're doing and it's like you're
00:26:47.600 taking away basic rights. What's next? Same sex marriage? What is next? It's insane.
00:26:52.840 So obviously, Dave Portnoy has absolutely no idea what he's talking about here. I don't mean to
00:26:58.220 dunk on the guy or totally own him with facts and logic or anything like that. But he is just
00:27:02.660 completely wrong on the facts. He's even wrong on his political factor. He said, I believe that 95%
00:27:08.380 of the country thinks like me. They're fiscally conservative and socially liberal. That's just
00:27:12.620 not true. Nate Silver at 538, the pollster, took a poll at the country, tried to figure out how large
00:27:20.660 the fiscally conservative socially liberal demo is. It's about 15%. It's not 95%, it's 15%. It's one of
00:27:29.280 the smallest electoral groups in the country. And a lot of people who are in fancy institutions and
00:27:35.220 live in big cities and hang around and hobnob with rich fancy people, they would call themselves
00:27:40.620 fiscally conservative socially liberal because they want to do whatever they want in their personal
00:27:44.220 lives, but they don't want to pay a lot of taxes. They're just sort of like greedy Democrats.
00:27:48.380 And I'm not even saying that to be really mean to them or anything, but the perception of how large
00:27:54.100 that demo is, is so skewed when you run in these circles. It's a very, very small group. It's an
00:28:00.420 important group because they can swing elections. 15% is not nothing, but it's not the dominant group
00:28:06.220 in the country, far from it. So Dave Portnoy says, look, I'm fiscally conservative, socially liberal,
00:28:12.120 and I can't believe that the Supreme Court would make this kind of ruling. He later tweeted out, he said,
00:28:19.460 come on, this is crazy. The Constitution's so old. Don't you think it's kind of outdated? Do you think the
00:28:23.580 founding fathers and the framers would really want us to still be operating under this old dusty
00:28:28.380 Constitution? That's crazy. Now, Dave's wrong about that because he doesn't appear to understand the meaning
00:28:36.180 of the word constitution. The constitution is not just some law. It's not just some statute or
00:28:42.540 something. It is the constitution. It's the fundamental framework of the country. Yes, the
00:28:50.000 framers believed that the constitution would last. You had one line from Thomas Jefferson in one of his
00:28:57.580 extreme radical flights of fancy, where he said, we need a revolution every 15 years or something to
00:29:02.600 that effect. But beyond that one little pithy quote that people sometimes bring up, no, of course,
00:29:08.860 the framers of the constitution, the founding fathers, believed that this would endure. And you
00:29:13.820 could amend it, and you could pass laws, and the country obviously can change, but the constitution
00:29:19.340 has to endure. That's why it's the constitution. And from the perspective of the constitution,
00:29:24.360 there is no question, the Dobbs ruling was the constitutional ruling. Even the honest liberals
00:29:34.040 will admit it, even though they really like abortion. So then you send it back to the people, and you
00:29:38.220 send it back to the states, and they can make their own decisions. The Portnoy video is important
00:29:45.260 because it reminds us that barstool conservatism is not conservatism. It's important. I also don't
00:29:55.580 want to just write it off and say these guys should go vote for the left. They probably will go vote for
00:30:01.520 the left. Portnoy in that video says, I'm going to have to vote for Democrats now. And okay, that's too
00:30:05.620 bad. I hope he doesn't vote for Democrats. But if we're going to lose him on an issue like this,
00:30:10.340 then we're going to lose him. No, I'm not willing to kill a million babies a year to win Dave Portnoy's
00:30:15.600 vote. And I'm not willing to kill a million babies a year to win 15% of the electorate. And no, I'm not
00:30:22.340 willing to, beyond the issue of life, I'm not willing to completely subvert the constitution and the
00:30:28.480 judiciary and our system of government to mollify a group of sort of young, decadent people who want
00:30:36.580 to go out and have fun, but not fund the welfare state. That's not, that's not going to happen.
00:30:41.620 That's not a good, it's not the right thing to do. And it's politically a losing, it's a losing move.
00:30:48.540 We need a big coalition. The traditionalists, the real conservatives, the socially conservative,
00:30:55.020 that's not large enough to win every single election in every single place. So we need coalitions,
00:31:01.060 but the lines have to be clear here, folks. At a certain point, if you have a tent that's too big,
00:31:07.520 you're going to blur all of your lines. You're not going to have a political movement at all. So we
00:31:11.220 need highly precise, tactical coalitions of political convenience. But let's not pretend that
00:31:19.120 we all think the same thing here. We don't. And let's also, by the way, not give away all of our
00:31:25.980 leverage to mollify an extremely small group of voters. We cannot allow our, this is something
00:31:31.420 the conservative movement did for decades, and it was a huge mistake and we lost as a result of it.
00:31:35.980 We cannot allow the minority party of the political coalition to call all of the shots,
00:31:42.600 which is what happened with the fiscal conservative social liberal people for decades.
00:31:47.620 Because when you've got a coalition of socially conservative, fiscally conservative people,
00:31:51.840 and fiscally conservative, socially liberal people, whatever, you know, the kind of guys who
00:31:56.340 want to just go out and party and not pay a lot of taxes. When you come together in a political
00:32:01.380 coalition, very often all that means is you just do whatever the social liberals want to do.
00:32:07.480 Public liberalism, private conservatism, which is to say you concede your conservative beliefs.
00:32:12.720 We can't do that. Look, we have a common enemy, the wokeness, the craziness, the radical left.
00:32:19.100 Yes, that's true. Let's work together. Let's fight that common foe.
00:32:23.660 But let's not pretend we're all the same thing here. We got to fight that foe, take down that foe.
00:32:30.260 But no, we're not going to give up life. We're not going to give up the constitution. We're not
00:32:34.320 going to give up the judiciary because a very small group of people wants to have promiscuous sex all
00:32:40.160 the time. It's not going to happen. It's not worth it, okay? Speaking of polls, USA Today has a really
00:32:46.360 great poll out here. And it's a poll actually that backs up what the social conservatives and
00:32:52.860 the constitutionalists are saying. And it undercuts the argument that Dave and some of the more socially
00:32:59.540 liberal types are making. Dave's argument is, gosh, there are all these voters who want to vote
00:33:04.360 for Republicans, but then you go out and you defend life and you defend the constitution. And all of a
00:33:08.860 sudden people get really, really angry about it and they're going to vote for Dems. That's not what
00:33:13.600 the polls show. According to the polls, abortion is not the top issue for almost anybody. USA Today's
00:33:23.460 Suffolk University poll came out on Friday, on Dobbs Day, showed that just under 15%, there's that number
00:33:30.160 again, just under 15% of likely voters viewed abortion as the most important election issue
00:33:37.240 heading into the midterms. Now, the majority of respondents say that abortion is an important
00:33:44.240 issue. Sure, we think about abortion, but it's not the top issue. It's only 15%. Do you know what the
00:33:52.080 top issue is for people? The economy. Only 23% of voters say that abortion is more important than the
00:34:01.840 economy. That's 23%. That includes the pro-lifers. So it's between the pro-lifers and the radical
00:34:08.000 abortion activists. Still, only 23% of the electorate thinks that abortion is more important than the
00:34:14.240 economy. 66% said that the economy is the most important issue for their vote. The economy is in
00:34:21.960 the doldrums and it's all Joe Biden's fault. And everyone knows that it's Joe Biden's fault. And he's
00:34:27.080 trying to blame it on Putin. And he's trying to blame it on global warming. And he's trying to blame
00:34:31.320 it on whatever. And it's not, that's not persuasive. Some, there are some squishes who
00:34:38.520 are saying, oh, why did this ruling have to come out? Sure, it's going to save hundreds of thousands
00:34:42.380 of babies a year. Sure, it restores integrity to our judicial system. But now we might lose the
00:34:47.300 midterms. There is no evidence that this will hurt us in the midterms. Even if it won, actually there
00:34:54.220 was a poll that came out some months ago that showed that the abortion issue did increase motivation
00:34:59.080 among Democrats. But it increased motivation among Republicans even more. So as a net,
00:35:06.720 the Republicans win on the pro-life issue. But then it doesn't even matter so much because
00:35:11.680 abortion isn't the top issue. This is uniformly a win. This is uniformly a win. It's the greatest
00:35:20.400 political event of my lifetime. Why did it happen? I've been, I have been scratching my head a little
00:35:26.200 bit. Why now? That Roe v. Wade comes down in 1973. Then in 1992, the court has the chance to overrule
00:35:33.100 it. Everyone knew that the decision was nonsense. Actually, the case that ended up upholding the
00:35:40.080 quote unquote right to an abortion even admitted that the Roe decision was silly, that the opinion in Roe
00:35:46.680 was poorly argued. That was Planned Parenthood v. Casey. But in 92, you had these squish conservative
00:35:53.080 quote unquote judges who voted to uphold the quote unquote right to an abortion, which never existed
00:35:59.740 in the Constitution. And now the court acknowledges that it does not exist there. So why now? What
00:36:06.000 changed? I think part of it is that the Democrats changed their rhetoric. They went from safe, legal,
00:36:12.700 and rare to shout your abortion, abortion on demand without apology. People might be able to get behind
00:36:18.860 safe, legal, and rare. I suspect Dave Portnoy and the rest of people who are just kind of,
00:36:24.240 you know, they don't pay a ton of attention to politics. They, they're, they're a swing vote.
00:36:30.340 They're kind of swayed more easily between one side or the other. I bet they could get behind safe,
00:36:35.100 legal, and rare. Moderate Republicans can get behind safe, legal, and rare very often.
00:36:40.280 Shout your abortion on demand for that apology. Even some center leftists don't like that.
00:36:45.780 Anna Navarro going on TV saying, listen, we need legal abortion because I have a retarded brother
00:36:52.080 and we should have killed him. And I've got these two step, step grandchildren and man,
00:36:57.160 they should be dead. I'm really sad that they're alive. It's annoying. They're, they're expensive
00:37:00.800 and annoying because they're retarded. That's what she's saying. Or they have some other mental
00:37:05.080 disability or they have, or they're just, or I don't know, they just bugged me when they came over
00:37:09.440 to the house on Saturday. We should kill them. I think ordinary people are looking at that and they're
00:37:13.400 saying, oh my, what you monster, you psycho. What? No, whatever, man, whatever you're, whatever
00:37:20.780 side you're on, I'm on the other side of that. So I think that turned people off. But, but why did the
00:37:26.780 libs even change their rhetoric? If safe, legal, and rare was working, why did they change it to
00:37:31.380 shout your abortion on demand without apology? They did it because I think of the logic of,
00:37:38.580 of abortion. If, if abortion is murder, then it shouldn't be legal. If abortion is not murder,
00:37:48.500 if it's just like getting your appendix taken out, then there's no reason it should be rare.
00:37:52.620 Safe, legal, and rare never made any sense. And it collapsed under the weight of its own
00:37:56.480 incoherence. Same with the issue in, in the womb. Same with the physical manifestation of the issue.
00:38:04.100 As sonograms advance, you can just see it's a baby. It's a baby. It's human. It's living. It's a baby.
00:38:11.240 And I think people see that, that, that has really helped the pro-life issue. You might say it's an
00:38:15.820 idea whose time has come. Finally, took a long time, but it's, it's come. And for those of you
00:38:22.700 who look out at the world and see symbolism, I meant to get to this on Friday and I didn't get to.
00:38:30.020 There were some weird coincidences on Friday, on the day the Dobbs decision came out.
00:38:36.740 For those of you who are Catholic in the audience, you will know that, that Friday was the solemnity
00:38:42.800 of the sacred heart of Jesus. This is a very, very high, it's the highest level feast you can have
00:38:49.060 in the year. And it was the, the solemnity of Jesus's sacred heart. It also coincidentally
00:38:57.140 was the feast of the nativity of St. John the Baptist. And you will recall that at the visitation,
00:39:04.620 the, one of the biblical arguments against abortion and for the sanctity of life is that
00:39:09.040 when Mary goes to visit Elizabeth, Mary is pregnant with Jesus and Elizabeth is pregnant
00:39:13.580 with John the Baptist. When Mary approaches with Jesus inside of her, John the Baptist leaps in,
00:39:19.440 in Elizabeth's womb, sensing the arrival of his Lord and Savior, Jesus. So that symbolism was quite
00:39:29.080 a lot for me. And then I was reading CNN. Why? I don't know. And I see this headline. This is,
00:39:34.720 this is from June 23rd, the night before the road decision, 7, 748 PM Eastern Standard Time.
00:39:40.660 Five planets take center stage as they align in the night sky. Bear with me here. First line,
00:39:49.100 a rare five planet alignment will peak on June 24th on Dobbs Day, allowing a spectacular viewing of
00:39:56.520 Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn as they line up in planetary order. I'm just pointing,
00:40:02.380 I don't want to sound hippy dippy here, folks, but there is such a thing as providence. It's an evil
00:40:07.640 generation that seeks for signs and wonders. But to quote my friend and priest, Father George Rutler,
00:40:12.060 it's a stupid generation that ignores signs and wonders. And as far as I can tell the signs of the
00:40:18.280 times, the protection of life, the beginning of the protection of life, the, the overruling of the
00:40:26.440 worst Supreme Court decision in our history is an idea whose time has come. Now, the, the road decision
00:40:35.820 was always illogical. Speaking of illogic, I have to turn to our vice president who was recently
00:40:43.120 babbling incoherently about the strength of our nation. The strength of our nation has always been
00:40:50.540 that despite the odds and the obstacles, we push to move forward, that we are guided by what we see
00:41:01.560 that can be unburdened by what has been. And we can see, man, we can see that I am me and you are you and
00:41:15.100 we too can come together and do and do for our nation what would cause a celebration. Okay. Yeah. Are you with
00:41:30.380 me? Kamala Harris is the, you want to talk about ideas whose times have come. You want to talk about
00:41:36.440 the, the logic of certain ideas. Kamala Harris is the consequence of 40 years of liberal, liberal
00:41:42.600 bourgeois women reading self-help books because what, what she was trying to do was sound inspiring.
00:41:50.480 And she, she did that by just reciting empty platitudes. I think she was trying to do an Obama
00:41:56.080 impression, but Obama was a somewhat skilled rhetorician. And so he would say meaningless
00:42:01.340 statements as well, but they sounded a little better when he, he was a little more adept at it.
00:42:05.440 She is not very adept at it. And so it just sounds like nothing. It's just totally hollow.
00:42:11.720 And, and it, it ties back into Dobbs. It ties back into Dobbs. If you read the, the court's opinion in
00:42:18.160 Dobbs, the logic is crystal clear. Anyone could read it. It's a very learned opinion with many,
00:42:25.180 many pages of citations and it, it's a very high level legal document. But, uh, I bet you a 10 year
00:42:31.540 old could read that document because the logic is so crystal clear. The argument is so crystal clear.
00:42:39.180 And then you read the dissent and then you listen to AOC and then you listen to Biden and then you
00:42:44.360 listen to Maxine Waters and then you listen to all of these people and you can't really follow it.
00:42:49.240 And it's all contradictory. A woman has certain rights and we actually don't even know what women
00:42:53.860 are. And, uh, and abortion is, uh, just a matter. It's a personal decision for a woman.
00:43:00.540 And unless she wants the baby, in which case then the baby is a baby, but the baby's not a baby. And
00:43:05.980 it's, it's in the constitution somewhere, uh, but we haven't seen exactly where. And so that the logic
00:43:13.820 was just totally non-existent. It just wasn't there. And so at a certain point, I, I, I do think people
00:43:24.920 wake up to that kind of thing at a certain, no matter how thick the rhetoric, how, uh, how intense
00:43:32.120 the emotional manipulation can be. I think that's what comes out. We've just gotten an update,
00:43:36.820 another update from the Supreme court. This is the greatest man. This is the greatest pride month
00:43:41.420 ever. I, I actually want pride month to continue. I thought I wanted pride month to end,
00:43:46.660 but I, I know I wanted to continue to keep getting these rulings. So we've, we've just gotten
00:43:50.860 rulings, uh, within the last few weeks, defending the second amendment, defending the right to keep
00:43:56.340 and bear arms in New York. We've gotten rulings in favor of religious liberty, the religious liberty
00:44:01.340 of, of parents to send their kids to Christian schools, not to have those schools discriminated
00:44:05.600 against. We obviously had the Dobbs decision, which is the most important decision in,
00:44:10.440 in the history of the Supreme court. Now, now we've just gotten word. I haven't read anything
00:44:15.120 about it. I just got a few words typed in to my screen up there that the Supreme court has ruled
00:44:19.840 in favor of coach Kennedy. This was a Supreme court case about the right of a high school football coach
00:44:27.060 to have a private prayer after the game. So this is a football coach who after his football games,
00:44:34.460 whether he won or lost, he would get down on his knees on the field and just have a little prayer
00:44:38.960 by himself. He wasn't making other people pray with him. And he, he was fired for this.
00:44:45.400 He was, he was threatened. He was intimidated. He was bullied. And so he, he brings this case
00:44:51.020 to court, goes all the way up to the Supreme court. There was an irony of, from the very beginning of
00:44:56.220 it, which is that for the last seven years or so, the left in this country has celebrated
00:45:02.680 kneeling at football games, but they only want you to kneel if you're kneeling to protest the
00:45:07.480 American flag. But if you have the temerity to kneel, to give thanks to God, that's not allowed.
00:45:13.620 So they, they brought this case and the Supreme court, I don't have the numbers. I don't have the
00:45:17.540 vote. I don't have the opinion, but we do know that the Supreme court has ruled in favor of,
00:45:23.140 of coach Kennedy. This is the man. This is the greatest Supreme court term. This is such a,
00:45:29.680 this is such a white pill to talk like a kid on the internet. You know, this is, it's so easy to
00:45:36.840 feel that it's all lost and it's hopeless, especially after two years of, of COVID and the
00:45:42.820 lockdowns and the Fauci's of the world and the international institutions and the bureaucracies
00:45:48.440 just taking away all of our political rights and taking away not just our rights and our liberties,
00:45:53.260 but our traditional way of life. And it just seems like everything is slipping away and we don't,
00:45:57.300 we're not even allowed to wave the American flag anymore. We're going to replace all the
00:46:00.620 American flags with rainbows and we're going to protest the American flag where we see it.
00:46:04.380 We're going to knock down our statues and we're going to lose our guns and we're going to lose
00:46:07.240 our free speech. And we're going to just, we're just, we're going to lose our representative
00:46:10.040 democracy and we're just going to lose everything. And then, and then it's even for me, I'm a pretty
00:46:16.440 chipper guy. I was, I was losing hope politically and, and now I'm not, now I'm not.
00:46:24.800 So they're, they're just giving me the numbers here. Gorsuch wrote the opinion. It was a six,
00:46:30.200 three decision. Here's what, here's what Gorsuch's, Gorsuch's majority opinion says,
00:46:36.400 Coach Kennedy's private religious exercise did not come close to crossing any line one might imagine
00:46:43.720 separating protected private expression from impermissible government coercion. Of course.
00:46:49.580 And of course we all knew it. We all, if you knew anything about this case, if you had even heard
00:46:55.000 the top line description, you would know, of course, it's not illegal, illegal to have a private
00:47:01.040 prayer and thank God after a football game. But we just, it seemed like the country was so far gone.
00:47:07.400 We were so past that. The only book you can't teach in schools is the Bible, all right?
00:47:11.760 You can teach gay porn in elementary schools. You can trans the kids, but you can't read a passage of
00:47:17.700 the Bible out to your class. We just thought we were so far gone, especially on these issues
00:47:21.780 of religious liberty. And then you just get that hope, which my friends, it's not just a nice happy
00:47:28.740 feeling, but it's a fact. It's a theological virtue and it's a fact. And this is a very,
00:47:33.820 very good month. I'm Michael Knowles. This is the Michael Knowles Show. See you tomorrow.
