The Michael Knowles Show - Ep. 375 - AOC’s Border Lies

00:00:00.000 Because it's a day that ends in why, socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is

00:00:06.580 spreading lies, specifically about the crisis on our southern border. We will separate fact

00:00:11.520 from fiction, which will leave AOC uncharacteristically silent. Then Quillette editor

00:00:16.740 Andy Ngo speaks out after his brutal beating at the hands of Antifa. Finally, Nike disses the flag

00:00:23.640 for the 4th of July. So the governor of Arizona disses Nike. All that and more. I'm Michael

00:00:28.740 Knowles and this is the Michael Knowles show. The sky is blue. The sun is bright and AOC is

00:00:41.260 spreading lies. Surprising, surprising. I know AOC took another trip down to get some photo ops at

00:00:47.540 the southern border. And she is now telling the press and all of her Twitter followers that the

00:00:54.120 border patrol agents there, the ones working in the concentration camps, that's what she's calling

00:01:00.220 the detention centers. So if they're concentration camps and the border patrol agents have to be

00:01:04.940 Nazis, I guess. And so she's describing them as psychologically abusing the prisoners of harming

00:01:12.180 them, of conducting psychological warfare and of making the detainees, the illegal aliens who are 0.97

00:01:18.800 there. Drink toilet water if they want to hydrate themselves. Here's AOC. Can you say that again in

00:01:25.200 English, please? There's abuse in these facilities. There's abuse. This was them on their best behavior

00:01:30.260 and they put them in a room with no running water. And these women were being told by CBP officers to

00:01:40.620 drink out of the toilet. They were drinking water out of the toilet. And that was them knowing that a

00:01:46.580 congressional visit was coming. That was, this is CBP on their best behavior, telling people to drink

00:01:51.780 out of the toilet. Did you see somebody actually do that? So you hear that at the end, you hear the

00:01:58.760 reporter say, did you see someone actually do that? When she's talking about how the border patrol wants

00:02:04.460 the illegal aliens to drink out of the toilet. Did you see someone actually do that? The window goes up. 1.00

00:02:09.240 She don't want to answer that question because of course she didn't see anybody actually do that.

00:02:12.840 So what she just said is not true. There's no evidence for what she's saying. And there's a lot

00:02:17.340 of evidence to the contrary because border patrol immediately started releasing images of what their

00:02:23.380 facilities look like. And as always with the left, there is almost a hair of a semblance of a grain of

00:02:31.140 truth in what they're saying. And then they use that almost tiny iota of a grain of truth to be

00:02:38.780 twisted into a lie. So you can see from this photo they released, what they have in these facilities

00:02:44.160 is toilets that are connected to sinks. And out of the sinks is potable water, drinking water.

00:02:53.280 They don't have potable water in the toilet bowls, obviously. That's toilet water. But there is a sink

00:02:57.680 connected to the toilet. This is true as they pointed out of every municipal jail in the country.

00:03:05.100 The border patrol official said, quote, of course that's what we have. No one is drinking toilet

00:03:10.480 water. They're drinking potable water from the sink attached to the toilet. It's what you would find

00:03:15.020 in every municipal jail in the United States. Now, if the sink is connected to the toilet,

00:03:21.740 then I guess you can almost plausibly say with a straight face they're telling people to drink

00:03:27.120 from the toilet. But they're not telling them to drink toilet water. They're telling them to drink

00:03:31.520 from an instrument that is connected to the toilet. So why would she make these claims

00:03:36.740 when it's so easily disproven? You look at the picture, you say, oh, okay. So she, it's like

00:03:42.300 the worst kind of clickbait. Border patrol tells aliens to drink out of toilet connected sink that

00:03:50.440 has perfectly fine drinking water coming out of it. So, you know, you click on that headline,

00:03:55.120 you're so shocked by it. And then you realize the reality is perfectly fine. Why would she do it?

00:03:59.200 One is she is genuinely unintelligent. She actually is, she's savvy. She's got a certain

00:04:04.780 cleverness. She's shrewd, but she, she really is unintelligent and uneducated. And so I guess it's 0.99

00:04:13.160 plausible to give her the benefit of the doubt that she even saw one of these instruments or she heard

00:04:18.560 about it secondhand and just didn't realize what was going on. That I guess is plausible.

00:04:22.560 However, I think there is a more obvious answer here and it's why it's such a good attack. We'll

00:04:30.080 get to that in a second. But first, let me tell you how to make your neighborhood safer. Ring's

00:04:36.760 mission is to make neighborhoods safer. Now you might already know about their smart video doorbells

00:04:42.060 and cameras that protect millions of people everywhere because I tell you about them all

00:04:46.280 the time. And more important, even than protecting you and being really efficient at keeping your family

00:04:51.400 safe, they just make you feel really cool because you can talk to anybody who comes to visit. You've

00:04:57.320 got your, you've got a guy trying to break in or you've got a guy delivering a package or you've got

00:05:01.180 your mother-in-law stopping by and you can see them. You can stay connected to your home. You can

00:05:06.440 talk to them, two-way audio from anywhere in the world. So you can be in your bedroom or you can be on

00:05:11.760 a beach. If there is anybody coming to your house, you can deal with them. And that is thanks to the

00:05:17.140 HD video and two-way audio features on Ring devices. Our senior producer, Jay Hay, I mean,

00:05:23.120 this is one of the great stories of Ring. He's lying in his bed next to his lovely wife. It's

00:05:29.100 three in the morning and his doorbell goes off and it's these whacked out druggies who, his house is

00:05:35.480 kind of hard to get to. They didn't just accidentally stumble on his house. They were there casing the

00:05:40.340 joint. They figure maybe no one's home. And he responds, he goes, excuse me, what do you want?

00:05:44.280 What are you here for? They're shocked. They didn't expect to hear a voice on the other end.

00:05:48.700 They scatter away. They run away. Now, what would have happened if he didn't answer that doorbell,

00:05:55.500 if he wasn't able to talk to them, if he wasn't at home? I don't know. Maybe they break a window.

00:05:59.200 Maybe they rob him. Who knows? Right now, as a listener, you have a special offer on a Ring

00:06:04.020 starter kit. You can feel as safe as I do. Not only does Ring make me feel safe personally,

00:06:09.360 but I give it away to all of my friends when they buy a new house. It's that good.

00:06:13.460 With a video doorbell, motion activated floodlight camera, the starter kit has everything you need

00:06:18.120 to start building a ring of security around your home. The way you do that is go to ring.com

00:06:23.980 slash Knowles, K-N-O-W-L-E-S. That is ring.com slash Knowles. Be safe, protect your family,

00:06:32.200 and feel extremely cool and futuristic while you do it. So why would AOC make these obviously

00:06:39.080 ridiculous claims? I think the real reason she went down there to do this is she needs new border 1.00

00:06:47.240 photos and new border stories to get the last obviously staged one out of the news. So you saw

00:06:54.440 this. Within the last week or two, those photos came out of AOC visiting the border a while ago,

00:06:59.760 and she was wearing all white. She was also wearing an $800 watch on her wrist, this Gucci watch.

00:07:06.420 Uh, so she's wearing that, but you know, she kind of wished that wasn't there for the cameras. 0.92

00:07:10.420 And she's got this ridiculous acting going on. She's sort of crying with her arm up over her eyes,

00:07:16.840 bent over. Then, you know, she stood up, had to readjust for the light or something like that.

00:07:20.960 And there's that really serious photo of her looking into the camera. She's really,

00:07:25.500 there's no tears anywhere, of course, because it's just all play acting. But she was staging all of

00:07:30.940 them. And this became a meme and we all made fun of her. So then a week later, just coincidentally,

00:07:35.480 she goes down to the border to get these new photos. And the only way to really make this stick

00:07:40.160 is to make insane claims. And this is what AOC does. She makes insane, outrageous claims, 1.00

00:07:47.360 and we all start talking about it. And the right points out that what she's saying just is simply not

00:07:52.580 true. And then the left, as if by reflex, has to oppose what the right is saying. And so the left

00:07:59.840 starts to say, well, actually, she's sort of right, even though she isn't. So you see this playing out

00:08:06.500 now with the, you saw it with the Green New Deal, for instance. She said the world is going to end in

00:08:12.020 12 years unless we pass a $93 trillion program that gets rid of cars, train, most trains, airplanes,

00:08:18.940 planes, cows, every building in the country. Unless we do that, there's no way that we can possibly

00:08:25.620 stave off this natural Armageddon. And so conservatives pointed out that that isn't

00:08:32.180 true. The world isn't going to end in 12 years. And then the left came out and said, well, no, but

00:08:35.180 actually, actually though, what she meant is that in 12 years, the damage will be so bad that it'll be

00:08:44.240 really super hard to combat it. So really, you know, she's right, sort of, or something. And

00:08:50.200 that's what they're doing here. So she says, Border Patrol is making women drink out of toilet bowls. 1.00

00:08:56.240 And that's not happening. There's no evidence that that's happening. So the right points that out.

00:08:59.620 And then the left says, well, but actually the sinks are attached to the toilets. So like really,

00:09:04.920 you know, when you really think about it, actually she's right. And then she benefits from this because

00:09:10.120 she's in the news the whole time. From the minute she says the stupid thing, and then the right starts 1.00

00:09:15.220 talking about her, she dominates the news cycle. Then the left tries to defend her, not because 1.00

00:09:21.080 they like her. They don't like her. There's a rumor in New York that they're going to try to get rid of 0.99

00:09:24.280 her congressional district in 2022 because she causes so much trouble for them. But they have to defend her 0.97

00:09:29.660 because they hate the right so much. So then they defend her. She gets a whole nother cycle out of it.

00:09:34.340 Meanwhile, now we forget about her stupid photos at the border from last week. Now we get these new 1.00

00:09:39.240 photos. Now we get these new claims. You know, President Trump in some way used this strategy,

00:09:45.520 except the difference, of course, being that President Trump would say some outlandish thing

00:09:49.700 and then it would seem to be proven correct. So he would say illegal aliens are killing people all over

00:09:55.420 the country. He'd say, ah, that's hyperbolic. That's not really happening. Then you have the death of 0.92

00:10:00.660 Katie Steinle. It's very high profile killing from an illegal alien. He's like, oh God, I guess he was

00:10:06.360 on to something. Trump will say, we're going to use tariffs to get a new trade deal and immigration

00:10:11.440 deal with Mexico. Say, oh, that's, it's never going to work. Tariffs don't work. There's no way, 1.00

00:10:16.380 you know, and then the left would go crazy. Then it turns out it actually did work. So, you know,

00:10:20.280 there's a little bit of this strategy with Trump. I just think more often than not with Trump,

00:10:24.980 it turns out that the claim he was making is largely true. With AOC, that doesn't happen. I don't think

00:10:32.520 that's ever happened. And so, so she really gets a lot of benefits out of this. Now, how do we know

00:10:38.040 that the conditions are, are actually not that bad on the border? First of all, because we've got other

00:10:42.840 people who are going in there and telling us that they're not that bad. A Washington Examiner reporter

00:10:47.640 tweeted out that two sources inside the building, inside this border patrol facility, said that AOC

00:10:53.840 didn't even tour one of the facilities that she was tweeting about. Wasn't even inside.

00:10:59.240 Why else do we know that she's not telling the truth? Because she wouldn't clarify whether she

00:11:05.760 actually heard the toilet thing herself firsthand or whether she just heard a rumor about it

00:11:10.880 secondhand or thirdhand. She's been asked by media outlets to clarify. She won't clarify.

00:11:17.200 The third way that we know that she is not telling the truth about this, and this is the best one of

00:11:21.740 all. If the detention centers were really these concentration camp filled with torture, awful

00:11:33.160 abusive places, probably over 3,000 illegal aliens per day wouldn't be flooding across our border.

00:11:41.740 Right? If these were really awful, torturous camps, we wouldn't be seeing an increase in illegal

00:11:50.400 immigration. I mean, 3,000 a day right now is the low estimate. If it was that bad, people would just

00:11:57.900 not break the law and they would just stay in their own countries. Or at the very least, let's say 0.98

00:12:03.320 they're fleeing El Salvador, they're fleeing Honduras, they're wherever, they would at least stay in 1.00

00:12:08.600 Mexico. They wouldn't stay. They wouldn't go into the United States if it were really as bad as AOC is

00:12:13.440 saying it is. But it's not. We're just detaining illegal aliens because they're breaking the law and we're 0.97

00:12:19.120 trying to do the best that we can to deal with them while discouraging more from coming over.

00:12:23.840 But this gives away the whole game. Because if Democrats actually wanted to stop this abuse,

00:12:28.600 that's what they would do. They would discourage people from crossing the border illegally.

00:12:33.800 And is that what they're doing? No. Actually, instead, they're doing everything they can to

00:12:38.680 incentivize more and more people to cross that border illegally. Julian Castro, running for president

00:12:44.160 right now as a Democrat, came out and said that he wants to decriminalize illegal border crossings.

00:12:50.660 Here he is. I'm not buying into the BS that basically says that little children and mothers

00:12:57.320 who are desperate and fleeing desperate circumstances are a national security threat

00:13:01.680 to our nation. I said that we should decriminalize people who are coming here, crossing the border. 1.00

00:13:08.360 Okay. First of all, nobody ever said that mothers and children are the national security threat.

00:13:12.380 What we said is that an open border is the national security threat. We know that this is true.

00:13:17.760 Nicaragua just days ago arrested four ISIS terrorists who were entering Nicaragua, who were

00:13:23.560 trying to get in there and then cross the U.S. southern border illegally. That is a national security

00:13:29.220 threat. But Julian Castro can't make serious arguments, so he just has to try to burn down straw men.

00:13:35.220 But Julian Castro is unwilling to admit, all the Democrats are unwilling to admit,

00:13:40.720 a very simple fact, which is that when you decriminalize something, you get more of it.

00:13:47.340 You are incentivizing it. But they're doing something even worse to incentivize illegal

00:13:51.900 border crossing, something even more heinous. We'll get to that in a second. But first, 0.66

00:13:56.600 if you don't know your numbers, you don't know your business. And the problem growing businesses

00:14:01.940 have here is that they just have too many systems. So it keeps them from knowing their numbers.

00:14:08.300 They've got this hodgepodge of business systems because it's easier to just start out with this

00:14:12.760 one system here. And then, okay, we got to add some new accounting software. We're going to go here.

00:14:16.720 And this is where NetSuite comes in handy. NetSuite by Oracle is the business management software that

00:14:23.980 handles every aspect of your business in an easy to use platform on the cloud, which gives you

00:14:30.080 visibility and it gives you the control that you need to grow. I've been involved in a lot of

00:14:35.160 companies, including this one, when they were just starting up. And people do this all the time.

00:14:39.840 They, you know, you're running, you're doing 10 million jobs when you're starting a business.

00:14:43.000 So you just have a ton of inefficiencies. And over time, those inefficiencies cost you time.

00:14:48.100 They cost you money. They cause you a lot of unneeded headaches. We'll fix that now. When you want to

00:14:52.960 move to the next level, you've got to fix that by managing sales, by managing finances, by managing

00:14:58.000 accounting orders and HR instantly. You can do all of that right from your desktop or phone

00:15:02.720 with NetSuite. That's why it's the world's number one cloud business system. I wish in the businesses

00:15:09.480 that I've been involved in helping to start up and involved in from early stages, I wish we'd taken

00:15:15.440 the moments that were just from the very beginning and say, we're going to bring this all together

00:15:19.500 right now from the very beginning. Cause it just, it creates a lot of aggravation. It creates a lot

00:15:24.900 of hassle later on. I always wish you could do that. Sometimes it's not possible to do it very early.

00:15:30.140 It's not possible to have that foresight. No reason not to do it right now because NetSuite

00:15:34.560 is offering you valuable insights with a free guide, seven key strategies to grow your profits

00:15:39.700 at netsuite.com slash Knowles, K-N-O-W-L-E-S. That's netsuite.com slash Knowles, K-N-O-W-L-E-S

00:15:52.040 regret it. NetSuite.com slash Knowles. So the other way that they are on the left incentivizing

00:16:01.780 people to pour into this country illegally, incentivizing this major exacerbation of the 0.98

00:16:07.640 problem at the border is by calling for open borders for family units specifically, right?

00:16:14.040 This has been sort of their de facto position for years. We're told you can't detain children.

00:16:18.880 This is, this began during the Clinton administration, during the Flores agreement

00:16:23.720 in 1997. They say you can't detain children in jails. Fair enough. Yeah, no one wants to put

00:16:30.760 children in jails. But if the children are there with their parents or they're there with some other

00:16:35.220 adult, then you've got to put the adult in the jail or some kind of holding facility. They are

00:16:40.160 breaking the law. You can't just let them go. So you've got the parents in the jail. Where are you

00:16:45.080 going to put the kids? That you can put the kids in an HHS facility, but then you're separating

00:16:49.140 children from their parents. Okay. So you've got to do that. But then we're told we can't separate

00:16:54.520 children from their parents. So you can't put the kids in the jail. You can't separate the children

00:16:58.100 from your parents. There's only one other option. What is it? Just let them go. Which is the left's

00:17:03.700 position? The left's position is, okay, maybe we can detain you if you're a single guy and you don't have 0.54

00:17:09.540 any kids with you, but we're not going to detain you if you have any kids with you. So guess what

00:17:14.760 that does? It incentivizes people to bring a kid with them. Doesn't matter if it's their kid. 0.62

00:17:23.460 Doesn't matter where they get the kid. If they have a kid with them, it makes it much easier to cross. 0.99

00:17:30.060 So now Mexico is confirming what we already knew. State Department has already been talking about

00:17:35.300 this and Mexico is now confirming it. Men are offering to buy children in Mexico to cross the 0.69

00:17:42.360 border illegally. This is the result of these policies. You know, the left wants to pretend

00:17:49.160 that letting illegal aliens that have kids go roam free is compassionate. They want to pretend 1.00

00:17:55.720 that a totally open border is compassionate. Well, this is what that compassion gets you.

00:18:00.080 It gets you roving bands of men going to orphanages and going to desperate women in Mexico and offering

00:18:06.540 to purchase their children. There was a Honduran woman in Mexico. She was interviewed. She said,

00:18:11.640 quote, I can't go to work because I can't take my eyes off my boys. She said that men offered her

00:18:18.460 $350 to buy children at the Iglesia Embajadores de Jesus shelter in Tijuana. Tijuana is pretty close.

00:18:27.160 It's not that far from where I am right now. She said, they want to rob our kids so they can cross 1.00

00:18:33.480 into the United States. The people who are doing this, by the way, are not refugees.

00:18:37.560 They're not desperate refugees fleeing violence. For the vast majority of illegal aliens pouring into

00:18:43.300 our country, they're economic migrants who just want better jobs and want to make more money. 1.00

00:18:49.720 Fair enough. If I lived in El Salvador, I would want that too. That's not an argument for completely

00:18:55.380 violating the laws of a sovereign country, violating national borders, violating the people of America's

00:19:01.540 right to self-government. That's not an argument for that. If they were really just fleeing political

00:19:05.960 violence, they could stay in any of the countries they stop in along the way. That's where this

00:19:10.380 Honduran woman was. She was staying in Mexico. And on their way to cross into the U.S. illegally, 0.83

00:19:16.760 a group of men tried to buy her children for $350 each. You know, with the left, it's all crocodile

00:19:23.880 tears until you actually do something about it. AOC can go down to the border wearing as many Gucci

00:19:28.720 watches as she wants and pretend to cry. She's covering her eyes so that you can't see that 0.99

00:19:32.660 she's not actually crying and talk about how awful it is and make up a bunch of lies about border

00:19:37.140 control. But it's just words, words, words. Leftist policies have created this crisis at the border.

00:19:45.420 And now the left is blaming conservatives for the crisis. And they're saying the only way to fix the

00:19:50.860 crisis is with more leftist policies, which created the problem in the first place. The left is getting

00:19:57.940 it, as always, exactly backwards. That's not just at the border. You saw this moving all the way over

00:20:04.100 to Portland. You saw this over the weekend at that Antifa thuggery that went on in the streets of

00:20:10.160 Portland. You saw it when Antifa was beating Andy Ngo. When they were beating this Quillette editor,

00:20:15.580 Andy Ngo. Do you know what they were chanting? They were chanting, no hate, no fear, as they were

00:20:21.600 cracking this guy's skull and they were giving him a brain hemorrhage. Well, Andy Ngo is finally

00:20:26.380 speaking out. Here he is on Tucker last night. While hearing people chant, no hate, no fear,

00:20:33.780 I'm suddenly bashed on the back of my head from behind. And from there, I'm a very passive person.

00:20:42.860 I've never been in a fight. It took me a few seconds to realize that I was actually even

00:20:47.760 hitting my head. And you can see on Andy now, he's got a shiner, he's got a black eye, he's got some

00:20:53.740 other scrapes and bruises on his face. Obviously, you can't see what's going on in the back of his

00:20:57.720 head. And I, first of all, I mean, you can hear these sort of things in the video, but I've seen the

00:21:04.540 left do this myself. I've seen it firsthand. You know, when I was fortunately much less injured than Andy

00:21:09.700 was, when I was at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and I was giving a speech called

00:21:13.980 Men Are Not Women. And some masked Antifa lunatic busted in and sprayed me with some weird combination 0.54

00:21:20.400 of luckily non-toxic chemicals. He immediately gets tackled by the police. So he busts in with this

00:21:29.620 super soaker kind of gun. He gets a spray off of whatever creepy liquid he had on him.

00:21:34.460 And he sprays it at me, shoots it at me. He goes down, the cops are arresting him. And the leftist

00:21:41.420 activists out there started chanting, hands up, don't shoot. I wish they had chanted it at their

00:21:48.620 leftist comrade when he busted in. Then I might still have my suit before he got it sprayed with

00:21:53.460 whatever weird paint glitter stuff he had. He literally came in with a type of gun and shot it.

00:21:59.820 Then he's being arrested. No guns anywhere. And they say, hands up, don't shoot to the guys who

00:22:06.460 don't have guns, who are just arresting him and stopping the guy who does have a giant squirt gun

00:22:11.900 completely backwards. So what, what happened to Andy? He puts it in his own words.

00:22:19.260 When I realized what was happening, it was too late. Um, a mob of people all dressed in black and 0.97

00:22:27.000 wearing masks started beating me with their fists and some of them used objects to hit me.

00:22:35.240 I don't know how many people were involved. It seemed like 5, 10, 15 or 20. It could have been that many.

00:22:43.480 They beat me so much that I lost control of my GoPro camera that I was holding, which was then stolen

00:22:50.520 from me. And when I thought it was over, I was wrong. Um, I put my arms up to try to shield my face as well

00:22:58.600 as to signal to them that I was surrendering and that I, uh, wasn't there to fight. But that really

00:23:07.080 signaled to them to be more aggressive. So then they started dumping what I believe were milkshakes

00:23:14.840 and eggs throwing it at my face, which blinded me so I couldn't see. And I was kicked some more,

00:23:23.080 punched some more. And all this time I kept thinking, where are the police? I could still see the

00:23:30.360 Monoma County Justice Center in front of me, but no police ever arrived.

00:23:35.960 That's the question. Where were the police? Where were they? We see them in a couple videos later.

00:23:43.960 And Andy says to them, where were you? I was attacked twice before you guys even sort of showed

00:23:49.080 up. One or two of you show up. Where were they? Why, why weren't they there? It seems to me pretty

00:23:55.600 clear. Someone told them that they didn't have to police this event or they didn't have to police it

00:24:01.100 very meticulously. So the question then isn't just where are the police? It's where were the politicians?

00:24:05.960 What were the politicians telling them to do? Why were the politicians like the mayor of this town

00:24:10.460 basically handing it over to Antifa? I mean, this isn't just a joke. He got sprayed with silly string.

00:24:17.360 You know, some guy poured a milkshake on him. Okay. I mean, that's awful. That is a physical assault 0.84

00:24:23.040 that took place. But they're also cracking his head. They're also blinding him with eggs in his eyes.

00:24:28.860 They also caused his brain to bleed. He tells what happened.

00:24:34.500 I eventually stumbled away bleeding across the park and I lost my balance. So I sat down on the

00:24:44.260 ground in front of the courthouse. And from there, a medic SWAT team informed me that in order to get

00:24:51.400 an ambulance to be taken to a hospital, I would have to walk to the police precinct. In other words,

00:24:58.080 walked back in the direction of the demonstrators who just attacked me. Later that night, after

00:25:03.900 arriving in the emergency room, I had a CT scan, which confirmed that there, that I was diagnosed

00:25:12.400 with a brain hemorrhage.

00:25:16.100 So he's got a brain hemorrhage. His brain is bleeding. And he's told when the cops finally 0.78

00:25:23.980 show up, they say, oh yeah, if you want to get an ambulance, you got to walk back through Antifa,

00:25:27.660 the guys that just cracked your head and threw eggs on your face and punched you and gave you

00:25:32.520 all those marks on your face, gave you a shiner. You got to walk through them and then we'll have

00:25:36.000 an ambulance pick you up there. What are the consequences for this? Who is going to pay a price? Well,

00:25:43.520 finally, the mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, he gives his answer. He explains what's happening.

00:25:50.800 He says what's going to happen. And it is the most cowardly, mealy mouth, despicable answer to 0.99

00:25:58.860 leftist violence that I've seen in the entire country. We'll break it down in a second. Then 0.98

00:26:02.960 we have to get to Nike's big diss on the American flag and a wonderful political response to that.

00:26:08.520 We'll try to get to a little bit more if we have time. But first, I've got to say goodbye to

00:26:11.680 Facebook and YouTube. Go to dailywire.com. 10 bucks a month, $100 for an annual membership.

00:26:15.960 What do you get? What don't you get? You get me. You get the Andrew Klavan show. You get the Ben

00:26:20.740 Shapiro show. You get the Ben Shapiro radio show. And by the way, I'm going to be sitting in for that

00:26:24.700 today. So you will get three more hours of me. Can you imagine? It's like we're going on a date or

00:26:30.360 something. I mean, that's a long time. So you'll get all of that. You get the Matt Wall show.

00:26:34.480 You get to ask questions in the mailbag coming up on Thursday. Actually, today on Ben's radio show,

00:26:40.140 you'll also get an interview that I'm doing with Andy. No, he's going to come on. Hasn't talked to

00:26:44.520 too many people yet about what happened to him. So we'll discuss that later on today. You get

00:26:48.660 everything and you get the leftist tears tumbler. Ooh, that tastes like the governor of Arizona smacking

00:26:59.680 down Nike for dissing the American flag on the 4th of July. We will explain it all just after this.

00:27:06.180 Let's go to dailywire.com. We'll be right back.

00:27:18.060 You know, I just remembered, we're not going to have a mailbag on Thursday because it's going to

00:27:22.040 be the 4th of July. And so I guess on Thursday, you will write your questions to America, just

00:27:28.740 address them to America and then, you know, hand them out on the 4th of July. And every answer will

00:27:33.380 be just a very beautiful American firework exploding, if only. That's how I feel when

00:27:38.380 I'm giving answers in the mailbag. I feel like they're all just fireworks. So we'll, we'll do

00:27:42.160 that. Unfortunately, nothing, uh, so we'll have to do double mailbag next week or something like that.

00:27:47.020 The mayor of Portland finally issues a statement about what happened, about Antifa's attack on Andy

00:27:54.200 Noe and other people, cracking their skulls, sending them to the hospital with brain hemorrhages. 0.93

00:27:57.840 Does he call out Antifa as the domestic terrorist group that they are? No. Does he take responsibility

00:28:06.640 for his complete failure as mayor and for the failure of the police? No. Does he smear the

00:28:16.520 right-wingers as basically deserving their attacks as asking for it? Yes, of course he does that because

00:28:22.480 he's a leftist. So here's what he wrote, quote, Portland has always been a beacon of free speech.

00:28:28.940 We are proud of that history, but see, and there it is. You knew the but was coming. The minute he

00:28:36.380 talked about how much he likes free speech, you saw the but was coming. And so he, a butthead,

00:28:42.620 says, we're proud of that history of free speech. But in the last couple of years, some have

00:28:48.580 increasingly used their opportunity to exercise their First Amendment rights as an opportunity to

00:28:55.120 incite violence. There it is. He goes on for about 10 other tweets. I told you everything you need to

00:29:02.240 know. He's saying that the conservatives who got their skulls cracked open by leftist terrorists 0.71

00:29:07.880 over the weekend, they were asking for it because they incited violence. He can only be referring to the

00:29:15.860 right-wingers. They come out. There was a patriot prayer rally. So they're out demonstrating for

00:29:22.420 patriotism and prayers, two things I like very much. And that's them exercising their First Amendment

00:29:29.040 rights. Then a bunch of leftist terrorists staged a premeditated attack and cracked their skulls open. 0.93

00:29:36.300 And what I just described is what happened. The way Mayor Wheeler describes that is some people

00:29:43.240 irresponsibly used their First Amendment rights to incite violence. I mean, it was incited.

00:29:50.540 Antifa couldn't do anything about that. It was, they got incited. You can't incite somebody and then

00:29:55.240 not expect them to crack your skull open, right? I mean, you were wearing an awful short skirt, Andy

00:30:00.400 No. What were you doing walking down that street at night in that short skirt? I mean, come on,

00:30:05.480 you're telling me, you're telling me you weren't asking to have that head cracked open? You're telling me

00:30:09.580 you weren't asking for a brain hemorrhage? That's what Ted Wheeler is saying in Portland.

00:30:15.400 He goes on. Over the weekend, some chose to engage in violence in Portland, which is unacceptable and

00:30:21.500 not to be tolerated. We stand against all forms of violence, regardless of someone's political

00:30:28.020 leanings. So, right, he's even assuming that there's a question that you wouldn't stand against

00:30:32.980 some forms of violence if you disagreed with that person's politics. That's actually the assumption.

00:30:37.440 He's saying, we wouldn't do that. Even if, even if they're conservatives, we would never

00:30:41.220 do that. We, it won't be tolerated. We stand against it. Of course, we won't do anything to

00:30:46.680 stop it and we'll have the cops stand down and we won't even get you an ambulance. We'll make you

00:30:51.500 walk back through Antifa to get an ambulance, but you know, we totally stand against it. But, but,

00:30:56.380 he goes on. Portland police officers have the unenviable task of keeping the peace. It's a difficult

00:31:02.940 job and hard decisions are made in real time. What hard decisions? Like, don't help the

00:31:07.480 conservatives who are getting their heads cracked in? That, that doesn't sound, by the way, like a

00:31:11.860 police decision. That sounds like a political decision. That sounds like a decision that

00:31:15.940 ultimately lays at the feet of the mayor's office. While we continue to learn more about what transpired

00:31:22.320 over the weekend, we will keep you informed. We will do everything we can to make sure that those

00:31:27.520 who have committed violence are held accountable. Sure you will. You're not even holding them

00:31:32.820 accountable in your statement. In your tweet, you're not holding them accountable. You are

00:31:37.400 blaming the conservatives for inciting violence by abusing their First Amendment rights. That was

00:31:43.400 the first thing you said. And then all of the rest of it was mealy-mouthed nonsense. You know, 0.94

00:31:50.880 this is the real example of the very fine people on both sides argument in Charlottesville. The left

00:31:59.440 never let Trump hear the end of it when he said that there were fine people on both sides. Even though

00:32:05.020 Trump went on specifically the same paragraph to say, I'm not talking about neo-Nazis. I'm not talking

00:32:10.200 about white supremacists. They should be condemned totally. But the left never let him hear the end of 1.00

00:32:15.200 it. But now Wheeler is saying there were good people on both sides. We will stand against all

00:32:22.000 forms of violence regardless of someone's political feelings. Some chose to engage in violence. No,

00:32:27.660 some didn't choose. Antifa chose. The left chose. Then he defends the police. If you want to hold people

00:32:36.180 accountable, Mayor Wheeler, name them. You can't hold anyone accountable unless you name them. Unless we know

00:32:42.960 who they are, they can't be held accountable. Their name is Antifa. That's their name. They're a

00:32:50.300 domestic terrorist organization. They meet the very basic definition of terrorism. They use violence

00:32:56.720 against civilians to achieve political goals. They are terrorists. If they are not terrorists, 0.99

00:33:04.000 no one is a terrorist. But he won't name them because he's not going to hold them accountable

00:33:09.480 because he doesn't really think they did anything wrong because they were incited to violence by

00:33:14.320 those awful conservatives. And this is, by the way, what authoritarian politicians have done for all

00:33:20.840 of history. People think authoritarians are idiots. Mussolini, these people, Mussolini founded fascism, 1.00

00:33:28.320 right? They think that Mussolini is a total idiot, that he would own every aspect of the fascist 0.99

00:33:35.340 agenda. He didn't. There were, there were always in these regimes paramilitary organizations. 1.00

00:33:42.060 So you've had it in the United States. In the United States, when the Democratic Party after the

00:33:46.280 Civil War was oppressing black Americans, recently freed slaves, instituting Jim Crow, instituting 0.92

00:33:52.900 lynchings, removing their civil rights. When they were doing that, they didn't only do it under the 1.00

00:33:58.440 guise of the Democratic Party. They did it from the paramilitary wing of the Democratic Party, 0.63

00:34:02.060 which was called the Ku Klux Klan. The fascists had a paramilitary wing. The camicianere, the black 1.00

00:34:09.360 shirts. The Maoists in China had a paramilitary wing. They were the Red Guard. And there, and there

00:34:16.620 was a little bit of a difference. There was a little bit of a separation from the government itself,

00:34:20.660 from the regime itself. And the radical left has a paramilitary wing, and that's Antifa. And so what

00:34:26.240 they're saying is, oh, that's very bad. Tsk, tsk, Antifa. They slapped them on the wrists. You really

00:34:33.320 shouldn't do that. Of course, you were incited, and a really, a smart conservative wouldn't open

00:34:37.760 their mouth and invite that sort of brutality. But bad, bad. Don't do that again, unless those

00:34:44.680 conservatives act up again. That's what's happening. That's what's being encouraged by politicians like

00:34:48.880 Ted Wheeler. Absolutely disgraceful. Obviously, he should resign. He won't resign. Obviously, he

00:34:55.560 should be made to resign. He won't be, I suspect, because the electorate in Portland is very far

00:35:01.180 left. But that guy, with that statement, that guy is complicit in whatever future violence occurs up

00:35:07.560 there. Totally switching gears in some good political news. We got bad news out of corporate

00:35:13.100 America. We learned yesterday that Nike was scrapping plans for a new shoe for the 4th of July

00:35:18.740 that featured the Betsy Ross flag on it. We have the Betsy Ross flag right behind us on set. It's that

00:35:23.560 early American flag, you know, with the, with the circle and the stars. And why is Nike scrapping this

00:35:30.760 shoe? Colin Kaepernick, of course, their spokesman, the guy calling the shots. Colin Kaepernick is now

00:35:37.260 saying that the Betsy Ross flag, one of the earliest American flags, is offensive.

00:35:43.100 How is, it's not, we're not talking about the stars and bars, right? We're not talking about

00:35:47.900 the Confederate flag. We're talking about the Betsy Ross flag, one of the earliest flags in the

00:35:51.800 country. Why is it offensive? Because it was flown during slave times. So now we can't have it. We

00:35:57.860 got to ban that flag. Now, of course, this doesn't make any sense. How about even the current American 0.99

00:36:04.240 flag? Even the American flag that we have today with all 50 stars, that flag flew over a segregated 1.00

00:36:12.800 country, a racially segregated country. How can we possibly fly that flag with such a major injustice

00:36:19.540 tolerated under that banner? The current American flag, 50 stars, flew over a country that had red

00:36:28.720 lining. Black people weren't permitted to move to certain neighborhoods. Forget about just our current 0.63

00:36:35.420 national flag. Forget about even our flag at all. No national flag in the history of the world has

00:36:41.920 ever flown over a perfect country, right? Because there's no perfect country. There never has been,

00:36:47.700 there is not presently, and there never will be because people are fallen. Our, our nature is

00:36:53.040 imperfect. Our political systems are imperfect. So we will never have a flag that ever flies over a

00:36:58.520 perfect country because we don't ever have perfect countries. Colin Kaepernick doesn't understand this,

00:37:03.900 or maybe he does, and he just wants to watch the world burn. This all comes as a bad news out of

00:37:10.000 Gallup comes out. American pride has hit an all-time low. You know, we've talked in the past weeks a lot

00:37:16.140 about pride, how pride is a terrible thing, how the left now is making an idol out of pride itself.

00:37:21.060 They have pride parades, pride day, pride month. And there is a slight distinction to be made,

00:37:27.180 which is that used, I don't use the word casually, or I try not to, but used casually,

00:37:32.740 not emphatically. Pride in a national context can be a stand-in for piety, or loyalty, or affection.

00:37:40.820 It doesn't necessarily just mean chauvinism or something like that. Now, just 45% of Americans

00:37:48.600 describe themselves as extremely proud of their country. Less than half. The majority of Americans

00:37:54.880 are not extremely proud of their country. Just 22% of Democrats are extremely proud of their country.

00:38:00.140 That's down 10 points in just one year. Even setting aside our problems with the word pride,

00:38:08.500 I think we can acknowledge pride, when you're not just making an idol out of pride itself,

00:38:11.860 when you're using it in a broader context. It's a stand-in for affection to your country.

00:38:18.200 And just 22% of Democrats feel that. I called this 10 years ago. This whole flag thing, I called it.

00:38:24.800 I was a freshman in college, and my roommate and I, we were like the only two conservatives at the

00:38:29.460 whole college, and we had a nice big American flag, and we flew it out of our window on old campus.

00:38:35.800 And this was very controversial. People asked us to take it down. They were furious that we flew

00:38:42.200 an American flag. I couldn't believe it. I said, what's the matter with flying an American flag?

00:38:47.300 It's the flag of our country. They would have felt better if I flew a Chinese flag, 1.00

00:38:51.700 because that would have been inclusive. That's not inclusive, obviously. It's one of the worst

00:38:55.660 regimes in the history of the world. But in the leftist backwards world, that is inclusive, 0.84

00:39:01.320 because it's encouraging to Chinese foreign exchange students or something, international

00:39:06.340 students. But the American flag, the best flag in the history of the world, that's the worst one you

00:39:11.440 could possibly imagine. So I saw this happening, and I said, it's not going to be long before the

00:39:17.460 American flag is considered a hate symbol by the pop culture. Because whatever the sort of lefty

00:39:22.240 crazy colleges are doing, fast forward 10 years, that's what your culture does. So that's happening

00:39:27.360 now. Colin Kaepernick is trying to outlaw the American flag, trying to, from a cultural level

00:39:32.680 at least, ostracize and banish the American flag as a hate symbol. Governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey,

00:39:39.940 one of the great politicians in this country, he didn't take too kindly to that. Doug Ducey came out

00:39:45.460 and issued a statement. He said, quote, today was supposed to be a good day in Arizona with the

00:39:49.680 announcement of a major Nike investment in Goodyear, Arizona. And then this news broke yesterday

00:39:55.180 afternoon. Words cannot express my disappointment at this terrible decision. I'm embarrassed for Nike.

00:40:01.680 Nike is an iconic American brand and American company. This country, our system of government

00:40:06.380 and free enterprise have allowed them to prosper and flourish. Instead of celebrating American history,

00:40:11.660 the week of our nation's independence, Nike has apparently decided that Betsy Ross is unworthy

00:40:16.980 and has bowed to the current onslaught of political correctness and historical revisionism.

00:40:23.040 It is a shameful retreat for the company. American businesses should be proud of our country's

00:40:27.880 history, not abandoning it. Nike has made its decision and now we're making ours. I've ordered

00:40:33.260 the Arizona Commerce Authority to withdraw all financial incentive dollars under their discretion

00:40:38.280 that the state was providing for the company to locate here. Arizona's economy is doing just fine

00:40:43.360 without Nike. We don't need to suck up to companies that consciously denigrate our nation's history.

00:40:48.680 And finally, it shouldn't take a controversy over a shoe for our kids to know who Betsy Ross is, 1.00

00:40:54.700 a founding mother. Her story should be taught in all American schools. In the meantime,

00:40:59.180 it's worth Googling her. Excellent response. Absolutely beautiful. Totally gets it right. 1.00

00:41:09.360 Some conservatives don't like this response. They see this as the government unfairly picking

00:41:16.560 winners and losers. That's not what's going on at all, by the way. But this gets to that low

00:41:22.100 simmering debate that we've been having between conservatives and people who are, they would call

00:41:27.680 themselves classical liberals or really conservative liberals or something like that. The questions

00:41:34.340 that come up are, should the government be picking winners and losers? And should the government be

00:41:38.320 wading into cultural questions? Or should the government just provide a neutral playing field

00:41:42.620 on which we can debate cultural questions? First of all, this is not an example of the government

00:41:48.580 picking winners and losers. If anything, the government picking winners and losers was shown when Arizona

00:41:55.500 offered those financial incentives to Nike in the first place. That was when they were picking

00:41:59.960 winners and losers. What Arizona said, which is what virtually every state does, is, hey, corporations,

00:42:05.260 if you relocate here and you create a lot of jobs here, we'll give you a huge tax cut. Millions in tax

00:42:12.400 cuts. Billions sometimes in tax cuts. If you just come here and you're basically bribing the company to come

00:42:18.000 bring you jobs. There is no constitutional right to state tax incentives for corporations. The state

00:42:25.980 has every right to withdraw those tax incentives if they find out that the corporation is denigrating

00:42:31.360 the country itself. That's the first part. Second of all, on the cultural stuff, the government is

00:42:37.220 already wading into cultural questions because it has to. I think we all agree with the patron saint of

00:42:43.660 Hollywood conservatives, Andrew Breitbart, that politics is downstream of culture. But that means

00:42:49.780 that politics has a huge cultural component to it. When the government declares that sex and gender are

00:42:56.060 no longer the same, as many people on the left want it to do, that's the government wading into

00:43:01.360 culture. When the government creates a law called Title IX that protects women's sports in colleges,

00:43:06.960 what does the government have to do with women's collegiate sports, you might ask? Well, it does. 1.00

00:43:13.820 It just, it does have a lot to do with that. It currently does that. The government wades into

00:43:18.500 cultural issues. When the government deems that certain crimes are especially heinous and deserve

00:43:26.180 special punishment solely based on the motivations of the perpetrators, that's the government wading into

00:43:33.920 cultural issues. This is like hate crime legislation, which can take crimes out of the state level,

00:43:38.440 make it a federal crime, just because the perpetrator, he could have done the exact same

00:43:42.860 crime as anybody else. But if they can say he was motivated by some particular view of the world,

00:43:49.540 some particular bigotry or viewpoint, then it's especially punished. That is the government

00:43:55.040 wading into cultural issues. This is this lie that I hear so often. On the left and the right,

00:44:01.300 people say, you can't legislate morality. Every single law legislates morality. Every law. When we

00:44:10.800 talk about how we need to expand health care coverage with a federal program, you're legislating

00:44:15.500 morality. When you talk about how we need to intervene on behalf of one country but not another,

00:44:21.040 you're legislating morality. When you raise taxes in the name of fairness, you're legislating morality.

00:44:27.840 When you lower taxes in the name of freedom, you are legislating morality. All laws derive ultimately

00:44:35.140 at the bedrock from ethical laws, from the moral law. So the question here is, will the state of

00:44:41.680 Arizona reward a country, or a company rather, that spits on the American flag? I am so happy that

00:44:48.000 they're not. I think this governor did an absolutely terrific job. It shows that there is some question in

00:44:54.920 the United States beyond profit. We all love profit. Everyone likes making money. Nobody likes making

00:45:00.780 money more than I do. But there are other things about our... We're not just simply numbers. Edmund

00:45:08.280 Burke, you know, when he was lamenting the fall of conservatism, he said that the age of chivalry is

00:45:14.260 gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded, and the glory of Europe is extinguished

00:45:20.600 forever. We're not just numbers. We're not just tablets. You know, there was an old view of kind of the

00:45:26.840 conservative movement in America, which was just that we were a bunch of bean counters, you know,

00:45:31.920 modeling what happens if we lower taxes even more. I love low taxes, but that's not it. A nearly economic

00:45:38.900 vision of conservatism is a losing conservatism. Why? Because we all agree politics is downstream from culture.

00:45:45.060 If economic views are not rooted in a cultural conservatism, a shared culture, shared premises,

00:45:52.680 a shared commitment to our country, to our constitution, to our founding values, to the 4th of

00:45:59.180 July, if we're not grounding it in that, then we're not offering anything. That's our show. We will have

00:46:07.260 much more tomorrow before we say adieu for the 4th of July. We won't use that French language. We won't use 0.94

00:46:14.340 those people who invented freedom fries. We'll say goodbye for the 4th of July, but we'll only do

00:46:18.300 that after tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm going to be sitting in for Ben's radio show today, so if you

00:46:23.240 want three more hours of fun, come on by. In the meantime, I'm Michael Knowles. This is The Michael

00:46:58.740 Hey, everyone. It's Andrew Klavan, host of The Andrew Klavan Show. July 4th is coming,

00:47:03.600 and Trump is planning a bang-up parade. But I'm wondering if that's an empty celebration. A new

00:47:08.900 poll says Americans are losing their pride in their country. Are they? And if they are,

00:47:14.080 is it too late for them to get it back? We'll talk about it on The Andrew Klavan Show. I'm Andrew Klavan.
