00:00:00.000 As Democrats burn down their 2020 presidential frontrunner,
00:00:04.920 they give President Trump a major fundraising advantage,
00:00:07.960 and they scare away independent voters, according to a new poll,
00:00:11.320 a serious question arises.
00:00:13.440 Are Democrats trying to lose this thing?
00:00:15.500 We will examine why the left can't get anything right.
00:00:18.100 Then, an Obama-appointed federal judge rules that Asians are not being discriminated against at Harvard.
00:00:25.740 She rules that they just have terrible personalities.
00:00:28.360 We will take a look at that case if it's heading up to the Supreme Court.
00:00:32.160 And finally, the Washington Post, of course, gives us the dumbest article on the Internet today.
00:00:37.260 All that and more. I'm Michael Knowles, and this is The Michael Knowles Show.
00:00:47.060 Democrats are doing everything wrong.
00:00:50.460 Now, this sounds like it could be just the logline of my show.
00:00:54.800 It sounds like this could just be the general statement.
00:00:56.900 But I'm not saying they're doing everything wrong morally,
00:00:59.300 or they're doing everything wrong as a matter of policy.
00:01:01.800 I'm saying, politically speaking, they're doing everything wrong.
00:01:06.500 It's not as though President Trump is a completely bulletproof candidate in 2020.
00:01:11.060 He has vulnerabilities. He's trying to address those right now.
00:01:13.700 But he does have weaknesses.
00:01:15.160 The trouble is here for the Democrats, they just can't win for losing.
00:01:18.520 They've got three major problems that are only getting worse for them by the day.
00:01:22.860 The first one is they are destroying their presidential frontrunner.
00:01:26.720 So Joe Biden is at the top of the pack for now.
00:01:29.360 I don't know, by the time you listen to this tomorrow or the next day after we record,
00:01:33.920 that might not be the case anymore.
00:01:35.360 He has really got slim margins now.
00:01:37.360 But he consistently polls the highest against President Trump in the general election.
00:01:42.200 Part of this is he's the only candidate who's a top-tier candidate who has black support.
00:01:45.920 Part of this is he's one of the few candidates that people don't think is a completely crazy leftist,
00:01:51.140 even though he's willing to pander to the left as much as he wants because he doesn't really believe anything.
00:01:56.620 But he's still the top-tier candidate for them right now,
00:01:59.220 and the Democrats are burning him to the ground.
00:02:01.360 Now, while they burn him to the ground,
00:02:03.180 they're using a specific instrument to burn him to the ground,
00:02:05.640 which is impeachment,
00:02:07.260 and specifically talking about his business dealings in the Ukraine
00:02:11.640 and his son's business dealings in the Ukraine.
00:02:13.420 While they do that, while they're burning him to the ground with impeachment,
00:02:17.380 they're giving President Trump a major fundraising advantage.
00:02:20.300 And as they're doing all of this,
00:02:21.960 they are scaring independent voters mad.
00:02:25.720 So there's a new poll out from Monmouth University
00:02:27.920 shows that a plurality of voters
00:02:30.640 believe that Joe Biden pressured Ukraine to stop investigating his son.
00:02:35.880 This is the first poll, and I think the only poll to my knowledge,
00:02:38.980 that asked this question.
00:02:40.180 They said,
00:02:40.980 Do you think that Joe Biden used the federal government
00:02:43.740 to pressure the government of the Ukraine
00:02:45.240 to stop looking into his son's crooked affairs?
00:02:48.700 42% of respondents said he probably did that.
00:02:53.060 37% said he probably did not do that.
00:02:56.540 22% don't know.
00:02:58.960 Regardless of what happened,
00:03:00.460 and I know we've been covering some of the facts of that case
00:03:03.280 for a week or so now,
00:03:05.220 regardless of whether or not it happened,
00:03:07.260 the worst news for Biden is that the plurality of people think it happened.
00:03:11.620 More people think it happened than think it did not happen.
00:03:15.280 And this is not just a party line vote.
00:03:16.980 It's not just 42% of Americans like Trump,
00:03:19.500 so they just believe him when he says that Joe Biden was crooked in Ukraine.
00:03:23.400 It doesn't break down that way.
00:03:24.820 Actually, if you look further into the poll,
00:03:27.340 16% of Republicans don't think that Joe Biden did anything wrong in Ukraine.
00:03:32.620 Pretty interesting number.
00:03:34.700 Even more interesting than that is that 19% of Democrats
00:03:38.960 do believe that Joe Biden engaged in some crooked behavior in Ukraine.
00:03:44.600 So people are paying attention to this issue.
00:03:47.100 When the issue first came up on TV,
00:03:49.060 I said, any way Biden plays this, he's going to lose.
00:03:52.480 Unless he just brushes it off and tries to ignore it and tamp it down,
00:03:55.920 he's going to lose.
00:03:56.680 Because just the fact that it's in the news
00:03:58.840 is going to hurt his poll numbers, it already is.
00:04:01.100 So the Democrats are burning down their top-tier candidate.
00:04:03.800 And they're doing it in an effort to impeach Trump.
00:04:06.460 Don't forget, if they hadn't tried,
00:04:08.560 if they weren't currently trying to impeach Trump,
00:04:11.000 the Ukraine issue would not exist.
00:04:12.800 This Ukraine issue goes back to 2014.
00:04:15.340 You had ABC's John Carl
00:04:16.640 asking Obama's White House Press Secretary,
00:04:19.300 Jay Carney, about this issue five years ago in 2014.
00:04:22.820 It then came up again in 2016.
00:04:25.540 But again, the mainstream media and the left
00:04:27.940 didn't want to talk about it,
00:04:29.020 so they didn't have to talk about it.
00:04:30.620 Even two months ago, I was sitting in a Fox green room
00:04:33.240 and I was talking to Dan Bongino,
00:04:35.480 who has a great podcast.
00:04:37.560 And Dan said, watch out for this Ukraine thing.
00:04:39.920 If Biden doesn't play his cards right,
00:04:41.900 this is going to become a big campaign issue.
00:04:43.880 Even then, this is just a few months ago,
00:04:45.600 I still didn't know exactly what was going on over there.
00:04:48.960 So Democrats are so focused on impeaching Trump right now
00:04:53.180 that they're willing to burn down Biden to do it.
00:04:57.940 Why are they willing to burn down Biden?
00:05:00.040 A few possible reasons.
00:05:02.460 One is they don't have faith that Joe Biden
00:05:05.540 is the candidate who's going to beat Trump.
00:05:07.380 Fair enough.
00:05:07.960 If you looked at his performances
00:05:09.360 at the last Democratic debates,
00:05:11.780 I don't think you would have much faith in Biden either,
00:05:14.600 even if you were a Biden supporter or a Democrat supporter.
00:05:18.060 So what one possibility is,
00:05:20.920 is they look at Biden and they say,
00:05:22.200 there's no way this guy's going the distance.
00:05:24.300 Whatever.
00:05:24.920 Let's impeach Trump.
00:05:25.840 It's going to take out Biden,
00:05:26.920 but then we'll deal with Bernie or Elizabeth Warren or somebody.
00:05:30.340 That's one option.
00:05:31.420 The other one is they don't really care about beating Trump.
00:05:33.780 I don't think Nancy Pelosi really wants to beat Donald Trump.
00:05:38.660 Why not?
00:05:39.880 Because now she's the minority,
00:05:42.300 or rather she's the Speaker of the House,
00:05:43.960 but she doesn't have the Senate and she doesn't have the White House.
00:05:47.560 So she gets to grandstand.
00:05:49.040 She gets to be the Speaker of the House.
00:05:50.720 She gets to raise a lot of money.
00:05:52.440 She gets to now especially try to keep her caucus in line,
00:05:55.680 but she doesn't have to be responsible for very much.
00:05:58.420 If you're in the Democratic House leadership,
00:06:00.980 that is a pretty good position to be in.
00:06:02.820 And one of the reasons that they're trying to impeach Trump right now,
00:06:05.940 I suspect,
00:06:06.740 is that Nancy Pelosi is looking around at AOC plus three,
00:06:11.020 and she's seeing a lot of discontent in her party,
00:06:13.100 and she's seeing that maybe people don't like her all that much.
00:06:16.640 And so she's willing to impeach him
00:06:21.600 if it means it's going to help her keep control of the House.
00:06:24.840 Absolutely plausible.
00:06:27.000 But either way, it's a kamikaze mission,
00:06:29.360 and it gives President Trump a major fundraising advantage.
00:06:33.980 So we just got the Q3 numbers out.
00:06:35.980 In the third quarter,
00:06:37.680 President Trump raised $125 million.
00:06:44.000 Now, we hear these numbers all the time,
00:06:46.320 so sometimes it's difficult to keep track of what you're supposed to raise,
00:06:49.680 if you're an incumbent in this quarter versus that quarter.
00:06:52.180 However, just to put it in perspective,
00:06:54.660 when Barack Obama ran for re-election in 2011,
00:06:57.720 this was the last time we had an incumbent who was running for re-election,
00:07:01.240 he raised $70 million in the third quarter.
00:07:04.940 And he won that election, don't forget.
00:07:06.560 He was re-elected.
00:07:07.680 So he raised $70 million.
00:07:09.080 Trump nearly doubled that in the third quarter of 2019.
00:07:13.300 $125 million.
00:07:15.240 How did he raise all that money?
00:07:16.960 One of the key reasons why he raised all that money,
00:07:20.180 impeachment.
00:07:21.240 So after Nancy Pelosi goes out there and says,
00:07:26.080 we are going to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump,
00:07:29.720 the Trump campaign didn't run and hide.
00:07:31.540 Trump campaign didn't cry.
00:07:33.180 They followed Rahm Emanuel's advice,
00:07:35.640 which is never let a good crisis go to waste.
00:07:37.680 So they immediately started sending out fundraising emails.
00:07:39.900 They brought in $8.5 million in just two days.
00:07:46.320 That is a lot of scratch.
00:07:48.540 Think about that.
00:07:49.180 President Obama, 2011,
00:07:51.120 raises $70 million in the entire third quarter.
00:07:55.620 Trump raises $8.5 million two days because of impeachment.
00:07:59.600 Because people don't like this.
00:08:01.140 They don't like being told that we have a presidential election
00:08:04.740 and then you elect the guy that you want to elect.
00:08:07.020 And then immediately you're told,
00:08:08.340 nope, sorry, that doesn't work.
00:08:09.420 So we're going to try to remove him for collusion.
00:08:11.380 We're going to try to remove him for a porn star.
00:08:13.320 We're going to try to remove him for colluding with a different government.
00:08:15.960 They're just going to undo it.
00:08:17.380 People hate that.
00:08:18.560 And it looks like it's backfiring.
00:08:21.140 This backs up what I have been saying all along.
00:08:25.560 Impeachment is a huge win for Trump.
00:08:28.500 He should be hoping for impeachment.
00:08:31.320 Let's not forget,
00:08:32.380 impeachment helped the Clinton administration in the 90s.
00:08:36.360 Now it helped Bill Clinton personally.
00:08:38.440 It helped the Democrats in the 90s pretty well
00:08:40.620 because the American people thought it was a bit of an overstep.
00:08:44.800 Maybe the Democrats are playing the long game here
00:08:46.700 because don't forget in the 90s,
00:08:48.000 you've got all these investigations into Clinton going back to the first term.
00:08:51.280 Then Newt Gingrich wins in the Gingrich revolution.
00:08:53.760 Republicans take the house in 1994.
00:08:55.380 And then there's more blowback against him.
00:08:59.280 Newt Gingrich eventually resigns as speaker.
00:09:01.840 Bill Clinton obviously is reelected.
00:09:04.180 But then in 2000, George W. Bush won the White House,
00:09:07.520 more or less running against Bill Clinton.
00:09:09.220 And Bill Clinton didn't play a huge role on the campaign trail for Al Gore.
00:09:12.740 So maybe Democrats are playing the long game here.
00:09:14.920 This to me is one of the more plausible theories,
00:09:17.580 which is for all their talk,
00:09:19.660 they don't think they're going to beat Trump in 2020.
00:09:22.000 I don't think they're going to beat Trump in 2020.
00:09:24.940 I guess it's possible.
00:09:25.780 I just don't think it's going to happen.
00:09:27.420 So for them, they're going to run really hard against Trump.
00:09:29.820 They're going to try to raise some money,
00:09:31.320 galvanize some support,
00:09:32.540 and play for a longer game when they've got better candidates
00:09:36.300 because the candidates they have right now are not talented.
00:09:40.120 Joe Biden is well past his prime if he ever had a prime.
00:09:44.400 Bernie Sanders, same thing.
00:09:47.020 Elizabeth Warren, now they're touting her as the great central candidate.
00:09:50.520 She has a lot of flaws.
00:09:52.840 She has a terrible voice.
00:09:54.160 She panders to everybody.
00:09:55.420 She's radically left wing, at least for recent years.
00:09:59.020 And let's not forget,
00:10:00.360 she pretended to be an Indian for her entire career
00:10:02.860 to her own professional advantage.
00:10:05.740 Liyawatha, that doesn't just go away.
00:10:07.460 We're not really talking about it now.
00:10:09.100 Trump is not going to let up on that.
00:10:10.740 And I think it does really hurt her
00:10:12.560 with particularly racial minority voters.
00:10:16.720 And you see this reflected in her poll numbers.
00:10:18.420 So, President Trump right now is making a killing on impeachment.
00:10:23.840 And you don't need to just look at the fundraising numbers to see that.
00:10:26.880 We also have more polls that are just spelling doom for the Democrats.
00:10:32.620 This is a very big, it's not even quite a poll.
00:10:36.240 It's an election experiment that is coming out of the New York Times.
00:10:40.260 So keep this in mind.
00:10:41.120 Here's the context.
00:10:41.720 Joe Biden's lead is now down to just 4.2% according to RealClearPolitics.
00:10:48.980 Don't forget, this guy started, he was the leader of the pack, double-digit leads.
00:10:53.620 Now, according to RealClear, which looks at all of the polls,
00:10:56.560 he's down to 4.2% lead.
00:10:58.380 By the time this podcast is actually published,
00:11:00.280 who knows what it's going to be.
00:11:02.160 The New York Times now is reporting on a new election survey experiment.
00:11:06.680 Here's the experiment.
00:11:07.260 They took just about 4,000 Americans, 3,973 Americans.
00:11:13.540 And this was conducted by a democratic data firm, Chivis Analytics.
00:11:19.880 And over one week, they took half the participants
00:11:23.800 and they showed them news articles about the Democrats' leftward shift.
00:11:30.740 So that was half the participants.
00:11:32.040 And then the other half of the participants saw news snippets of just random information.
00:11:36.940 You know, election dates and that sort of stuff.
00:11:41.160 What they were trying to measure is the effect of news about the Democrats' leftward shift,
00:11:47.840 what that does to independent voters.
00:11:49.840 These were all so-called independent voters.
00:11:52.100 So the news that they showed them was news about decriminalizing southern border crossings.
00:11:58.400 It was news about expanding illegal aliens' right to welfare and government services.
00:12:02.940 It was news about how we're going to get rid of our health care system
00:12:06.160 and replace it with a government-run system.
00:12:08.400 It was news about free school, free college for all children, for everybody.
00:12:14.100 These were all, by the way, not, these weren't just made up.
00:12:16.720 It's not like they wrote them like a work of fiction.
00:12:19.660 These were pulled from actual news stories.
00:12:22.060 What was the result?
00:12:22.920 Independence became six full percentage points less likely to vote for Democratic candidates
00:12:32.600 after reading the news about the leftward shift.
00:12:35.740 And this has been the Trump campaign strategy all along,
00:12:38.420 which is appeal to moderates, appeal to independents,
00:12:41.720 appeal to normal people who object to pretending to be an Indian for 30 years of your career
00:12:48.040 and object to free health care for illegal aliens and object to reparations for slavery
00:12:52.660 and object to a $93 trillion Green New Deal environmental bill.
00:12:56.640 And just normal people, you know, who,
00:12:58.360 the only sort of people who could ever get behind those kind of radical ideas
00:13:02.320 are highly over-credentialed elites in the media and politics.
00:13:08.560 Normal Americans, people between the two coasts,
00:13:12.080 people who don't live in politics all day long,
00:13:15.060 don't like that sort of stuff.
00:13:16.140 And now we have an experiment showing,
00:13:19.020 and this is a Democratic firm and this is coming from the New York Times,
00:13:22.860 six full percentage points less likely.
00:13:25.860 So what does that mean?
00:13:26.980 We know the leftward lurch is happening.
00:13:28.740 We've been seeing that happen the whole time.
00:13:31.040 We've been seeing the Democrats willing to kill off their front runner,
00:13:36.320 kill off Joe Biden.
00:13:38.180 And we've been seeing that they're cottoning now to Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.
00:13:46.220 The media want Elizabeth Warren.
00:13:48.980 They really want her to be the nominee.
00:13:51.360 I will prove it to you that they're going for Warren,
00:13:53.800 and we will examine what that means for 2020.
00:13:55.920 But first, I've got to thank our friends over at ExpressVPN.
00:13:59.420 Oh, how I love ExpressVPN.
00:14:01.560 You know that you cannot trust certain elements over there in Silicon Valley.
00:14:05.740 I'm not going to name the companies, but they are not treating you fairly for your politics.
00:14:10.600 They're not treating you fairly on social media platforms.
00:14:13.920 How do you think they're going to handle your privacy and your online data?
00:14:16.900 Because when you go online, you are just giving people,
00:14:19.120 you are dishing all of your information out over to them.
00:14:22.160 This is why I highly recommend using ExpressVPN every time you go online, every time.
00:14:28.500 Big tech companies can use your IP address to match your internet activity to your identity or location.
00:14:36.080 And let me tell you something.
00:14:37.060 If you are listening to this show, something tells me you get up to some pretty weird stuff on the internet, okay?
00:14:42.900 You go in, you open up that little incognito browser window, okay?

00:16:00.420 So, we know the leftward lurch is happening.
00:16:04.440 We know the media want Elizabeth Warren.
00:16:06.700 The one way that you can tell who the media want to be the Democratic nominee
00:16:11.440 is how they joke about that person.
00:16:14.780 So, Saturday Night Live, they just put out a satire of the Democratic debates
00:16:19.580 and the satire opens up and they make fun of Beto O'Rourke for being a nobody.
00:16:26.380 That's the crux of the jokes against Beto are you overestimated how much we like you.
00:16:30.600 You're a nobody.
00:16:31.340 You're kind of doofy.
00:16:32.180 You're not going anywhere.
00:16:34.060 Then it gets to Cory Booker.
00:16:35.940 And the joke about Cory Booker is, Cory, you got to go home early and beat traffic.
00:16:39.320 You're never going to be the president.
00:16:40.420 Your numbers are so low.
00:16:41.280 You can only get to say five words on the stage.
00:16:43.640 Then it gets to Andrew Yang.
00:16:45.940 The whole joke about Andrew Yang is he's so desperate he's going to buy votes, which is true.
00:16:50.560 And he's not going anywhere and he's not going to be the president.
00:16:52.520 Then it gets to Marianne Williamson and the joke is that she's a crazy kook.
00:16:56.540 Fair enough.
00:16:58.300 Then they get to Elizabeth Warren.
00:17:00.860 Listen to how they then shift.
00:17:02.420 Those are the only candidates they talked about.
00:17:04.140 Here they shift to talk about Liz Warren.
00:17:06.280 And now let's meet the actual candidates.
00:17:08.900 Senator Elizabeth Warren.
00:17:15.680 Okay, you hear that.
00:17:16.700 Let's meet the actual candidates.
00:17:18.240 Now, it's true, Andrew Yang is not going to be president.
00:17:23.280 Cory Booker is not going to be president.
00:17:24.740 Certainly, Beto O'Rourke is not going to be president.
00:17:26.580 It is true that Liz Warren is an actual candidate.
00:17:29.420 But part of this is self-fulfilling.
00:17:31.420 If the media had talked about how interesting Tulsi Gabbard is, Tulsi Gabbard would still be in the debates.
00:17:37.180 If the media hadn't abandoned Beto O'Rourke, Beto O'Rourke would still be in the debates.
00:17:42.020 The media are not simply covering the Democratic presidential primaries.
00:17:46.020 The media are pushing the candidates they like.
00:17:50.020 They tried to give Beto a big push.
00:17:52.040 Then they preferred some other candidates.
00:17:55.200 So, it opens up.
00:17:56.980 Let's get to the actual candidates, Elizabeth Warren.
00:17:58.980 The other thing to note here is look who's playing Liz Warren.
00:18:02.040 Kate McKinnon.
00:18:03.440 Kate McKinnon is the SNL cast member who played Hillary Clinton last go around.
00:18:07.980 Hillary Clinton being the Democrats and the mainstream media's preferred candidate in 2016.
00:18:13.660 So, they get Kate McKinnon, who looks a little bit like Liz Warren, but there are plenty of blonde actresses.
00:18:20.720 They get Kate McKinnon to play Warren.
00:18:22.780 And then, not only do they say, let's get to the real candidates, but who's the first candidate they get to of the real candidates?
00:18:28.600 Elizabeth Warren.
00:18:30.100 And then they go in.
00:18:31.880 Here's the joke they're going to make about Liz Warren.
00:18:35.100 When no candidate is safe, Yang is desperate, and Beto is doofy, and Corey's going nowhere, and Mary Ann's a kook.
00:18:42.580 Okay, what are they going to say?
00:18:43.840 What's the joke that they're going to make about Elizabeth Warren?
00:18:47.100 I hope you guys enjoyed Hot Girl Summer, because now it's school librarian fall.
00:18:53.200 I have the energy of a mother of five boys who all play a different sport.
00:18:59.760 Let's do this.
00:19:01.160 Okay, that's it.
00:19:02.120 Then they move on to another candidate.
00:19:04.180 So, the joke is, she's not like a young hot girl or a young hot candidate.
00:19:12.320 She's a mature librarian.
00:19:14.840 So, she's educated and mature and serious.
00:19:20.100 Ha, ha, ha.
00:19:21.720 Ha, ha.
00:19:22.120 That's a funny joke.
00:19:23.240 And then, the only other joke in the bit is, she's got a lot of energy.
00:19:29.600 But, you know, energy like a mom who has kids who play different sports.
00:19:34.760 Ha, ha, ha.
00:19:37.480 If they were playing fair, if the media actually were going, if Saturday Night Live were still a comedy show,
00:19:43.120 they would go after and tell actual jokes about all of the candidates.
00:19:46.340 But they can't do that.
00:19:47.340 I mean, it reminds me that you had these comedians, even from Saturday Night Live,
00:19:50.660 who would say during the Obama years, oh, it was so easy to make fun of George Bush.
00:19:56.020 But you can't make fun of Barack Obama.
00:19:58.180 He's just, there's nothing to joke about.
00:20:00.420 There's a lot to joke about with Barack Obama.
00:20:02.260 His voice, his big ears, his absolutely hesitating, halting manner of speaking when he wasn't on teleprompter,
00:20:10.920 his complete lack of accomplishment at anything in his life other than running for president,
00:20:15.080 his narcissism, his total self-absorption.
00:20:17.720 There is a lot to his just constantly giving his America's enemies whatever they want.
00:20:23.960 But, yeah, there's a lot to make fun of Barack Obama.
00:20:27.540 But they liked him so much they couldn't do it.
00:20:29.520 So that's what's happening here.
00:20:30.560 The media, you are watching it in real time.
00:20:32.820 They are falling in love with Elizabeth Warren.
00:20:35.640 And why not?
00:20:36.340 She's one of them.
00:20:37.760 She's got a lot of credentials.
00:20:40.140 She worked at Harvard Law School.
00:20:41.860 She's never drunk a beer in her life, other than that one time she tried to do it on video.
00:20:45.640 She's part of the country club Chardonnay set from the Ivy League.
00:20:49.520 And she's a total race hustler.
00:20:51.120 She is the mainstream media, okay?
00:20:52.780 She is these people.
00:20:53.980 And so they can't joke about her.
00:20:56.240 They can't do it.
00:20:57.720 They know that they have to do something that sort of looks like a joke about her.
00:21:00.720 So they make two jokes.
00:21:03.340 First one is she's mature and smart.
00:21:06.500 The next joke is she has a lot of energy.
00:21:08.140 That's not a joke.
00:21:09.780 Okay.
00:21:10.180 Then they move on and they're introducing the other candidates.
00:21:12.240 Because maybe you think, okay, they make the harsh jokes about the cheap candidates.
00:21:15.880 But then when you get to Warren, Biden, Bernie Sanders, they're going to go really easy on all of them.
00:21:22.040 But they actually don't.
00:21:23.040 So next they get up to Bernie Sanders and they lay into him pretty good.
00:21:27.880 Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders.
00:21:34.740 Hello, everyone.
00:21:36.660 I'm so excited to be back and to ruin things a second time.
00:21:42.240 So it's actually a pretty brutal joke, which is, and Larry David obviously does a great Bernie Sanders impression.
00:21:49.200 But the joke is, Bernie Sanders, you're the reason we lost in 2016.
00:21:56.060 Hey, Bernie, you know our audience, all of whom wanted to beat Trump.
00:21:59.640 You're the reason that they weren't able to do that.
00:22:02.180 You gave Trump the election.
00:22:04.180 Which in some ways he did.
00:22:05.380 He created a lot of discord within the Democratic Party.
00:22:08.960 Pretty good joke.
00:22:09.800 That is what happened.
00:22:10.520 But it's pretty brutal.
00:22:11.980 Again, compare this.
00:22:13.620 Compare Liz Warren is so smart and educated and has so much energy.
00:22:18.520 Ha ha.
00:22:19.260 To, hey, Bernie Sanders, you cost us the White House and made Trump the president.
00:22:23.240 You ruined everything.
00:22:25.340 Okay, now they get to Joe Biden.
00:22:26.840 What's the joke going to be on Joe Biden?
00:22:28.320 Are they going to go easy or are they going to go hard?
00:22:30.200 What are the jokes about?
00:22:31.240 The first one is, he said he goes into the dentist and asked for the high beams.
00:22:34.600 So he's saying, hey, Joe, you have dentures.
00:22:36.180 You've got silly and ridiculous looking dentures.
00:22:38.220 Then the next joke is really pretty cutting when you consider that it's coming from the liberal New York media class, which is, he's a man.
00:22:47.260 Right?
00:22:47.540 This is, he's a man.
00:22:48.420 He's an entitled man.
00:22:49.600 The first line he says is, all right, America, daddy's home.
00:22:52.800 Daddy's here.
00:22:53.600 Father knows best.
00:22:54.600 I've got an outdated, patriarchal sense of myself.
00:22:58.760 I'm entitled.
00:22:59.680 I'm a man.
00:23:01.080 I'm disregarding and dismissing women.
00:23:03.300 I'm dismissing other people who don't feel entitled.
00:23:06.620 Then the next joke is that he's a sexual assailant, goes up and sniffs people's hair and grabs them from behind.
00:23:12.920 And then the final joke is he's senile because he says, every time I walk into a room, I say, where am I?
00:23:19.760 Who is this?
00:23:20.340 How'd I get here?
00:23:23.160 That's a lot of jokes.
00:23:25.540 He's got bad cosmetic surgery.
00:23:28.060 He's a sexist.
00:23:29.460 He's entitled.
00:23:31.000 He's a rapist.
00:23:32.500 He's senile.
00:23:33.360 They packed five jokes in there compared to one real joke against Bernie, which is that he ruined everything, compared to no actual jokes against Liz Warren.
00:23:44.080 Just sort of hidden compliments.
00:23:47.420 She's smart.
00:23:48.460 She's mature.
00:23:49.720 She's got a lot of energy.
00:23:51.780 The media want Elizabeth Warren.
00:23:55.760 The media have turned on Joe Biden.
00:23:58.440 Now, one confounding factor in all this, and it's why they went a little bit, you know, they only got that one joke in on Bernie, then they moved on.
00:24:07.160 Bernie is still alive.
00:24:08.720 Bernie's still in the race.
00:24:09.600 I actually should note, even using that phrase, Bernie today had to cancel campaign activities in the near future because he does seem to be having something of a serious health problem.
00:24:19.120 He has a blocked artery.
00:24:21.660 They put a couple stents in there.
00:24:23.140 So he's hopefully going to be recovering fine.
00:24:26.160 He says he's doing fine.
00:24:27.100 But all joking about the candidates aside, I do very much hope that Bernie Sanders recovers, mostly because I love him being in the race.
00:24:36.620 I mean, he's also a child of God, and, you know, I hope he does well for himself and his family, but also because he's really, really funny to have in the race.
00:24:43.460 And so I like him there, and I hope he stays there.
00:24:47.260 That aside, the little health scare aside, and from all news reports, it looks like he's recovering well.
00:24:52.160 His campaign is still doing quite well, and the media have been trying to take him out.
00:24:58.180 Politico ran a piece just a few days ago about how his campaign was going nowhere.
00:25:02.800 They had to pick a lane.
00:25:03.900 They're not doing that well.
00:25:05.080 Well, actually, if you look at the third quarter fundraising numbers, he raised $25 million.
00:25:11.800 Obviously, that's $100 million less than Trump raised.
00:25:14.080 But if you're looking at a crowded field of 10 or more Democratic candidates, $25 million is pretty good.
00:25:20.060 And the better news for Bernie, that $25 million is coming from 1.4 million donors.
00:25:26.540 Bernie Sanders is the king of the small-dollar donation.
00:25:30.900 Bernie Sanders is the king of getting regular old people, not those fat cats smoking their big cigars,
00:25:35.960 but regular old people to donate to his campaigns.
00:25:39.220 It looks like it's happening again.
00:25:40.220 I was talking to a political consultant friend of mine in New York just a few days ago,
00:25:44.900 and we were saying, what do you think?
00:25:46.100 Is it going to be Warren?
00:25:46.940 Is it going to be Biden?
00:25:47.640 And he said, no way, it's going to be Bernie.
00:25:49.880 I said, you've got to be kidding me.
00:25:51.160 He goes, Bernie's, first of all, Bernie stands for something.
00:25:55.120 Second of all, Bernie has a lot of energy, especially for a man his age.
00:25:59.000 And third, Bernie still has that small-dollar connection.
00:26:02.460 He's got a lot of very enthusiastic people behind him.
00:26:05.340 Not like Trump, but pretty solid.
00:26:07.240 So you've got the mainstream media coalescing around Liz Warren.
00:26:10.220 You've got Liz Warren.
00:26:11.640 She even took the Working Families Party endorsement from Bernie Sanders.
00:26:15.820 So the Working Families Party is this kind of just corrupt, extra-ballot-line party.
00:26:22.040 I've run against candidates who are on Working Families in New York.
00:26:25.360 I've worked for candidates who have done that.
00:26:27.560 And it's a lot of shady stuff.
00:26:30.060 But she goes in there, and I assume through some shady dealings, takes the endorsement from Bernie.
00:26:34.980 So that's not great.
00:26:35.580 But a lot of Democrats still like Bernie Sanders.
00:26:39.840 And this is where it's going to get really interesting.
00:26:42.780 It's happening already today.
00:26:45.880 You're about to see Bernie Sanders start holding Liz Warren's feet to the progressive fire.
00:26:52.300 It's been so nice thus far that Liz Warren and Bernie haven't hit each other.
00:26:58.960 None of the Democrats have really gone after each other other than Kamala going after Biden and Tulsi Gabbard going after Kamala.
00:27:05.000 And in the long run, it didn't work out very well for either Kamala or Tulsi Gabbard.
00:27:08.380 Now you're going to start seeing them holding their feet to the fire.
00:27:12.360 Here is Bernie Sanders leveling the first shot, just a little subtly.
00:27:18.580 He didn't call her out by name.
00:27:20.440 Basically saying that Liz Warren needs to get real about her progressive proposals.
00:27:26.360 Because Warren has stolen all of Bernie's proposals, but she hasn't stolen his honesty about taxes.
00:27:32.180 At least Bernie tells you we're going to have a lot of new services and we're going to raise taxes on just about everybody to pay for them.
00:27:39.740 Liz Warren wants to promise all those new welfare services, but she doesn't want to admit that people have to pay for them.
00:27:45.480 And Bernie Sanders goes after her.
00:27:46.760 He says, some people aren't being honest with you, but I am.
00:27:49.340 My question would be around the current budget, though.
00:27:52.740 I mean, you're telling us you've got to raise taxes to do this.
00:27:55.640 Why can't we adjust the current budget for defense and pay for us now, as opposed to making us this futuristic thing?
00:28:03.440 I'm not saying we don't do it.
00:28:05.200 I think it's a great idea.
00:28:06.220 We just have to turn it around because raising taxes is not probably going to fly for everyone.
00:28:11.420 Well, we've got to deal with it.
00:28:12.960 This is the issue.
00:28:14.560 This is why some people don't talk about it.
00:28:17.380 All right.
00:28:19.700 First of all, you're right.
00:28:20.940 In terms of we are spending more than the next ten nations combined in terms of defense spending.
00:28:27.780 And I don't agree with that.
00:28:29.020 And I voted against all of Trump's defense budgets, which are rising very rapidly.
00:28:33.640 You have a system where Amazon made $10 billion in profits last year, didn't pay a nickel in federal income taxes.
00:28:39.540 So there's a lot that we have to do.
00:28:41.240 But I don't want to lie to you.
00:28:42.920 All right.
00:28:43.140 If I told you magically that you're going to have great health care and it's not going to cost you a penny, would you believe me?
00:28:49.540 So we've got to be honest.
00:28:51.520 You hear that?
00:28:52.320 Some people aren't going to tell you.
00:28:54.460 Magically, they're going to raise all those funds for the government.
00:28:57.920 Some people aren't being honest.
00:29:00.380 Bernie's talking about Liz Warren here.
00:29:02.760 And it gets to the central Democrat problem, which is they are invariably, it seems, running to the left.
00:29:10.900 Whether it's because Trump has just trolled them into madness or whether it's because they're finally just being honest about what they believe.
00:29:17.260 They're running very far to the left.
00:29:18.720 This fight between Bernie Sanders and Liz Warren that is coming up, assuming Bernie gets better, assuming the campaign is still going on.
00:29:26.620 If all of that happens, this fight coming up is going to bring the party even further to the left.
00:29:33.540 Bernie has the correct idea here, which is they have to raise taxes to pay for their plans.
00:29:39.880 He's going to make Liz Warren be honest about it.
00:29:41.880 And that's a really bad pitch because we've just got a report that Americans are now spending more on taxes than they are on food, clothing, and health care combined.
00:29:54.280 That's according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
00:29:57.360 We'll get into that.
00:29:58.240 We'll get into why more taxes is a bad pitch.
00:30:01.020 We'll get into how best to go after Biden.
00:30:03.300 Some conservatives are suggesting an investigation.
00:30:05.720 I think it's a bad idea.
00:30:06.860 Then why one Obama-appointed federal judge thinks that Asians just have bad personalities.
00:30:11.320 And finally, the dumbest article on the Internet today, which takes on that great problem, that scourge in the United States, the ethnic food aisle at the grocery store, which the Washington Post says is the last bastion of racism.
00:30:25.500 First, though, we've got to say about Facebook and YouTube.
00:30:27.400 You know, I, you've noticed probably all week I've been coming to you from very strange places around the country.
00:30:32.880 Now I am in Washington, D.C. because tonight I am going to be giving the third speech in my fall Young America's Foundation tour, which is called Men Are Not Women and Other Uncomfortable Truths.
00:30:44.260 The uncomfortable truth that I'm going to be talking about tonight is that George Washington was a pretty good guy.
00:30:51.480 It shows you where we are as a culture in 2019 that now if you go to George Washington University and defend George Washington, you are giving a controversial speech.
00:31:02.880 But that's where we are. It should be a lot of fun. That's going to be 7 o'clock at GW, and we are going to stream it.
00:31:07.860 So check it out on the Daily Wire YouTube page, and Young America's Foundation will be tweeting that out, too.
00:31:12.360 So that's going to be a lot of fun. Go to dailywire.com.
00:31:15.100 $10 a month, $100 for an annual membership.
00:31:17.460 You get me. You get the Andrew Klavan Show. You get the Ben Shapiro Show.
00:31:20.500 You get the Matt Wall Show. You get to ask questions in the mailbag.
00:31:22.780 That's coming up tomorrow, so be sure to get them in.
00:31:25.260 You get Another Kingdom. Another Kingdom is going to be released this week.
00:31:30.000 For subscribers only, though, if you're not a subscriber, you've got to wait until Monday.
00:31:33.840 So I'm telling you guys it's the best season yet. Go out there and get it.
00:31:36.980 And you're going to need that Leftist Tears Tumblr, especially when I defend George Washington at GW tonight.
00:31:41.760 The tears are going to be flowing. It's going to be going over the Potomac.
00:31:44.480 The Potomac is going to flood as if global warming were really a threat to our civilization.
00:31:49.600 So go to dailywire.com. We'll be right back with a lot more.
00:31:52.320 So Democrats are now going, eventually going to be running on, we are going to raise your taxes.
00:32:07.960 Yes, we are going to raise your taxes.
00:32:09.420 The more honest voices on the left are already saying this.
00:32:12.040 They're going to force the more dishonest ones to say it too.
00:32:14.220 But this comes as a new survey from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Americans are way, way, way overtaxed.
00:32:23.580 So Americans, on average, are spending more on taxes than they are on food, clothing, and health care combined.
00:32:34.020 You can even see the numbers.
00:32:35.560 American consumer units spent, on average, $9,031.93 on federal income taxes.
00:32:44.220 They spent a little over $5,000 on Social Security taxes, almost $2,300 on state and local income taxes, $2,200 on property taxes, and $78 on other taxes.
00:32:57.680 Because they'll tax you coming and going.
00:32:59.480 That's what the tax man does.
00:33:00.900 This brings, for the average American, $18,617.93 total in taxes.
00:33:07.960 Now, the average American consumer unit, while they were paying these taxes, they were also spending nearly $8,000 on food, nearly $5,000 on health care, $1,866 on apparel and services.
00:33:21.500 That brings it to $14,758.11 total.
00:33:25.900 Almost $4,000 more on taxes than on food, clothing, and health care.
00:33:33.600 It's too much.
00:33:34.720 It's too much.
00:33:35.320 You know, the left and kind of the new right, new conservatives, and the center, they would always mock the conservative movement in the 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s for just all they cared about was low taxes.
00:33:47.700 Low taxes, and people don't get all that excited about low taxes, and it's a little too wonkish and rationalist.
00:33:54.660 Low taxes is about so much more than just taxes.
00:33:59.240 Taxes represent your labor.
00:34:02.540 Taxes represent your time.
00:34:04.820 Taxes represents your freedom of choice.
00:34:08.440 Taxes represents your control over your own life and your own destiny.
00:34:13.720 Money is a symbol, okay?
00:34:14.900 Money, that's a dollar, the dollar bill, isn't intrinsically worth something.
00:34:19.460 It's worth something because of what it says about the economy, about the country, about your time, about your work.
00:34:29.300 If people are spending so much more on their taxes than they are on basic necessities, that's not a great sign.
00:34:36.820 I mean, you could be taxed 40%.
00:34:38.700 I have friends who are taxed at the 50% effectively.
00:34:41.500 And that's not even taking into account sales taxes and all the other little taxes that people get you on.
00:34:47.820 That's too much.
00:34:49.780 That's way, way too much.
00:34:52.040 God takes 10%.
00:34:53.200 The mob takes 10%.
00:34:55.040 There is no reason for the government to be taking 40 or 50% of your money home.
00:34:59.800 So how should Trump play all of this?
00:35:03.400 He should watch it happen, and he should laugh.
00:35:05.320 You know, there was a suggestion from Peter Schweitzer, who's very good, but he runs the Government Accountability Institute, I think it's called.
00:35:13.000 And he just looks into corruption at the government level, and he writes excellent books.
00:35:17.260 He has this suggestion right now that Trump needs to get really involved in all of this, that Trump actually should, I guess, through the Senate Republicans,
00:35:25.920 use the subpoena power to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden, to get really active in areas of this campaign.
00:35:34.200 I think it's a bad idea.
00:35:35.920 I think if you get the White House to really get aggressive here, or if you get the Senate to start subpoenaing different people and really heavily investigating Joe and Hunter Biden,
00:35:49.040 it creates a sort of moral equivalence between the House and the Senate, the House Democrats and the Senate Republicans.
00:35:54.400 So right now the House is impeaching Trump.
00:35:55.980 It looks ridiculous.
00:35:56.800 He raised eight and a half million dollars off of it, and really more later on.
00:36:02.440 Why would we want to look ridiculous too?
00:36:04.920 Because already the Biden campaign is falling apart.
00:36:10.260 I mean, you're seeing it happening in the polling numbers.
00:36:12.200 You're seeing it happening in how the media is treating Joe Biden.
00:36:15.360 And if we get involved, the only advantage I could see to that is if we get involved, the Democrats will defend Joe Biden.
00:36:24.940 And then if the Democrats defend Joe Biden, he has a better chance of getting the nomination.
00:36:28.440 And look, maybe that is the long game.
00:36:29.800 Maybe people think Joe Biden is the weakest candidate to run against in 2020.
00:36:35.280 I'm not totally convinced of that.
00:36:36.620 I can see an argument for it.
00:36:38.060 But that is a really convoluted, complicated, long game.
00:36:41.140 I think right now things are going very, very well for conservatives.
00:36:44.100 Things are going very, very poorly for Democrats, and they can't figure out right now how to fix it.
00:36:49.360 They can't figure out how to right the ship.
00:36:50.980 They just can't win for losing.
00:36:52.880 Everything they're doing is wrong.
00:36:55.320 I wouldn't interfere with that.
00:36:56.560 I would let that continue to happen.
00:36:59.740 It would spell good news for conservatives in 2020, really bad news, and without really much good luck in sight, I think, for the Democrats.
00:37:08.440 Now, moving on from 2020, looking at just the culture broadly, there's one case that we have been talking about for months and months now.
00:37:17.900 It's this case brought by Asian students and Asian parents who had kids apply to Harvard, and they were rejected, or there were students at Harvard, but they found this problem in the admissions policy, which is that Harvard is systematically discriminating against Asian applicants on the basis of race.
00:37:42.600 Now, how do they do it?
00:37:44.000 Because you're not allowed to do that, right?
00:37:46.680 I mean, you are.
00:37:47.760 There's affirmative action, which is race discrimination codified into law.
00:37:52.300 So you already are a little bit, but even so, Asian applicants were still being underrepresented.
00:37:59.120 How did they do it?
00:37:59.660 The way they did it was Harvard gives students different scores.
00:38:04.060 So you got the SAT score, right?
00:38:05.600 And you just take the test and you report your SAT score, unless your mother's Aunt Becky, in which case you cheat on the test and get into college.
00:38:11.940 You got the SAT score, you've got your GPA.
00:38:14.940 Kind of hard to cheat your GPA.
00:38:16.360 You've got your extracurriculars.
00:38:17.980 You've got all these boxes, right, that are pretty hard, if you're in the admissions office, to cheat.
00:38:26.420 And then you have, at Harvard, the personality score.
00:38:29.300 So the personality score measures likability, helpfulness, courage, kindness, positive personality.
00:38:37.240 People like to be around you.
00:38:39.280 That's one category.
00:38:40.980 This person is widely respected.
00:38:42.960 That's another category.
00:38:45.740 Obviously, very subjective, highly vulnerable to abuse.
00:38:50.600 What this survey showed of the Asian applicants is that Asians had the highest scores in academic and extracurricular rankings, but they had by far the lowest personality rankings.
00:39:04.580 So how can you explain this?
00:39:06.280 There are two explanations.
00:39:07.860 That's it.
00:39:08.160 Either you believe that Asians just have absolutely terrible personalities across the board, or you realize that the personality score is just a way to discriminate against Asians on the basis of race.
00:39:22.900 Because these universities have done this for so long, which is they don't want too many Asians, or they don't want too many Jews, or they don't want whatever race they don't want there.
00:39:33.680 And so they find a way to keep that number suppressed.
00:39:36.100 First, this lawsuit brought, showed that statistical experts looking at the applications saw an Asian American male applicant had a 25% chance of admission.
00:39:53.320 Or if he had a 25% chance of admission, he would have a 32% chance of admission if he were white.
00:39:58.940 He would have a 77% chance of admission if he were Hispanic.
00:40:01.860 He would have a 95% chance of admission if he were black.
00:40:05.260 That's if he's beginning with all of his other scores starting at 25%.
00:40:08.940 He would get a huge advantage if he were a different race, and he was being disadvantaged because of his own race.
00:40:14.340 So anyway, this federal judge today, this Obama appointee, Allison Burroughs, says that Harvard can keep discriminating.
00:40:21.640 And her reasoning was, this is a direct quote,
00:40:24.180 So what she's saying is, she found out that Harvard, she discovered, she concluded, Harvard is not discriminating against Asians on the basis of race because Harvard told her that they're not discriminating against Asians on the basis of race.
00:40:48.680 And, you know, why would Harvard lie about something like that?
00:40:51.320 I mean, you're not calling them liars, are you?
00:40:53.020 So anyway, no big deal.
00:40:55.600 I guess Asians just have bad personalities, is what this Obama appointed judge is saying.
00:41:01.300 This is, first of all, it shows you how bizarre and incoherent racial politics can be.
00:41:06.260 I mean, it's not as though, broadly as a demographic group, Asian immigrants and second-generation Asians are so incredibly well-off in America.
00:41:15.740 I'm from New York.
00:41:16.660 A lot of Asian immigrants and children of Asian immigrants have nothing.
00:41:19.700 They came here with nothing.
00:41:20.980 Their parents work constantly.
00:41:23.300 The kids work extremely hard in school.
00:41:25.160 And then they go to some either magnet school or charter school or Stuyvesant High School.
00:41:29.120 And then they work their way in and try to get into college.
00:41:31.200 And they are being discriminated against.
00:41:32.880 And there's no other way to put it.
00:41:34.140 It's on the basis of race.
00:41:35.360 And somehow, in leftist woke culture, this is a good thing.
00:41:39.720 Because I guess, I don't know, I guess the left just prefers certain races to other races.
00:41:44.360 So they would rather give a systemic advantage to black and Hispanic applicants.
00:41:50.280 And they were willing to pay the price of disadvantaging Asian applicants.
00:41:55.540 The other thing this shows you is the importance of the judges.
00:41:59.840 The judges matter.
00:42:02.080 This judge was appointed by Obama in 2014, okay?
00:42:05.360 In 2014, five years later, she's making these big decisions.
00:42:08.740 Now, this is going to be appealed.
00:42:09.920 Certainly, it's going to go up to the Supreme Court.
00:42:11.680 Hopefully, those conservatives on the court don't go squishy.
00:42:14.580 Because it's a huge miscarriage of justice what's happening at Harvard.
00:42:17.780 And somebody should stand up for it, even if everyone else has gone crazy with race.
00:42:21.740 And they have gone crazy with race.
00:42:23.400 This from the Washington Post.
00:42:24.580 I just have to get to it before we go.
00:42:26.340 The dumbest article on the internet today.
00:42:28.500 The article is, to David Chang.
00:42:31.360 He is a food expert or something.
00:42:35.240 The ethnic food aisle is racist.
00:42:38.340 Others say it's convenient, of course.
00:42:40.100 Right off the bat.
00:42:40.760 Obviously, a slow news day.
00:42:42.780 The ethnic food aisle.
00:42:43.980 This is a food aisle.
00:42:44.660 I didn't even know this exists.
00:42:46.180 But I guess there's an aisle in certain grocery...
00:42:47.660 I don't do my own grocery shopping also, because sweet little Lisa is just a good wife.
00:42:52.280 And I would die and starve if I were not married to her.
00:42:55.660 But I guess there's an ethnic food aisle.
00:42:57.360 And this is how the piece begins.
00:42:58.640 To millions of shoppers, the supermarket is just a place to stock up on produce and pantry staples to keep the family fed.
00:43:05.420 But to others, especially children of immigrants, who may already feel pushed to the margins of the American mainstream,
00:43:11.580 the supermarket can be just another place to experience the sting of outsider status.
00:43:17.280 Quick poll.
00:43:18.040 Here we go.
00:43:18.580 Children of immigrants who are listening to this show right now, please write in on Twitter.
00:43:23.040 Do supermarkets make you feel, quote, the sting of outsider status?
00:43:27.340 Just let me know.
00:43:27.880 I'll put a poll up on Twitter or something.
00:43:30.200 The piece goes on.
00:43:31.420 The sting occurs whenever they walk down the ethnic food aisle, the section of the supermarket that to some plays out like a remnant of the Jim Crow era.
00:43:41.120 So, according to the Washington Post, there's an aisle at the supermarket where you can buy certain Asian spices and oyster sauce.
00:43:48.020 And that's the same as lynchings.
00:43:52.700 It's not my words.
00:43:53.740 They're the ones who brought up the Jim Crow era.
00:43:55.380 They say it reminds them of times when laws established separate facilities for African-Americans in the post-Reconstruction South.
00:44:06.740 What?
00:44:07.260 This is how this comes across, quote,
00:44:11.420 to the shoppers they seemingly target as de facto segregation, another kind of separate but equal policy that marginalized African-Americans for generations.
00:44:19.980 Because supermarkets are stocking up on very niche food products that, generally speaking, a small number of people like.
00:44:28.300 Does walking down a separate aisle for yum-yum sauce and adobo make you feel like you are being reserved and refused, rather, service at the Woolworth's lunch counter?
00:44:40.280 Does it?
00:44:40.760 I don't think so.
00:44:41.360 And then they give you their thesis.
00:44:44.060 If you go to the ethnic food aisle, that is sort of the last bastion of racism that you can see in full daylight in retail America.
00:44:53.340 David Chang.
00:44:54.560 That's what he says.
00:44:55.760 It's something that's got to go.
00:44:57.200 So, I just want to point out, I am willing to accept the premise, okay?
00:45:02.720 I'm willing to accept that ethnic food aisles are racist and whatever.
00:45:10.000 If we admit that it's the last bastion of racism and we get rid of ethnic food aisles, then the left has to agree to stop yapping about racism.
00:45:21.400 Because you just said it's the last bastion of racism.
00:45:24.300 I don't think it's a bastion of racism, but you think it.
00:45:27.320 You think it's the last bastion, and you're always trying to divide people based on race and identity politics.
00:45:33.480 So, okay, right, last bastion, let's pass a law, we get rid of the ethnic food aisle, then that's it.
00:45:38.360 No more race hustling, no more identity politics.
00:45:40.760 Deal?
00:45:41.280 Something tells me they're not going to take that deal.
00:45:43.420 He complains, he goes on, he complains that olive oil is in the main food aisles, but, you know, yum-yum sauce is in its own separate aisle.
00:45:51.180 First of all, everyone uses olive oil.
00:45:53.220 People don't use oyster sauce and rice vinegar that much.
00:45:55.600 But also, that's not some vile bigotry, because the products are available.
00:46:03.500 You get to just go to the aisle and buy them.
00:46:06.160 And then he contradicts himself.
00:46:07.500 He goes on, he says,
00:46:08.260 The ongoing segregation of these foods isn't about acceptance among the mainstream.
00:46:13.460 Asian and Latino cuisines have long been embraced by Americans of every stripe.
00:46:17.560 And you can sometimes even see this play out in supermarkets.
00:46:20.300 Instant ramen and tortilla soups may sit right next to boxes of chicken noodle and cream of chicken soups.
00:46:25.140 Those standards of mid-century America.
00:46:26.960 So he actually admits that some of the foods are in the regular aisle, the ones that are more mainstream.
00:46:32.640 Because people eat instant ramen noodles because people are poor college students sometimes.
00:46:37.280 But they don't always go eat yum-yum sauce.
00:46:40.520 Then he complains that very, very niche specialty products like coconut milk and stir-fry sauces and curry paste are in the separate aisle.
00:46:47.980 A few things.
00:46:49.480 It shows us three things.
00:46:52.200 Mainstream media are so incredibly separated from mainstream America, they don't realize how different their tastes are than the vast majority of this country.
00:47:02.640 Second thing is, this grievance carries social currency.
00:47:06.160 There is an aisle.
00:47:07.280 The foods are there.
00:47:08.160 They're even especially easy to find.
00:47:10.340 The third thing it shows you is you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't with the left and with identity politics.
00:47:14.800 This is like the colorblind versus the color-conscious society.
00:47:18.180 When ethnic and racial differences are highlighted, that is called bigoted.
00:47:21.840 Because you're separating people based on race and ethnicity.
00:47:25.700 When ethnic and racial differences are ignored, that's called erasure.
00:47:29.280 That's called appropriation.
00:47:30.860 That's called another form of bigotry.
00:47:32.540 You can't win with them because all they want to do is complain.
00:47:35.480 That's the left for you.
00:47:36.600 That's just what they do.
00:47:37.680 I also don't think that this is really being pushed by people who are actually terribly offended by this.
00:47:43.860 I think, generally speaking, this is pushed by white liberals, like, for instance, the people who tend to publish and read the Washington Post.
00:47:51.580 That's going to be the topic of my speech tonight as I defend George Washington from mostly white liberals who want to destroy him.
00:47:59.700 So head on over to George Washington if you're in town.
00:48:02.520 Otherwise, catch it on the live stream, and I'll see you, in any case, tomorrow.
00:48:05.900 I'm Michael Knowles.

00:49:19.040 let's go.
